    - Gameplay was pretty solid, though it felt like there were too few gun types per category. SMGs had like 3 variants of the MP5, for example. SMGs had like 3 variants of the MP5, for example. Driving controls are better this time around but flying controls are just… ugh. I’d rather have Ghost Recon Wildlands’ helicopter controls over FC5’s. Also, I must say I did NOT like how the game would force you into story missions each time you'd reach a new resistance level, especially since doing so could make you miss main story missions if something untoward happened to a quest NPC during the forced story event.

    - Soundtrack was fantastic. I really appreciated the hand crafted hymnals which were created specifically for Eden's Gate and the ambient Americana music while exploring fit very well.

    - John Seed’s story arc was probably the best of the three because it fit the crazy cult story line the closest. Faith Seed and Jacob Seed were essentially the same mindscrew, except one used drugs and the other used psychological conditioning. Neither were really interesting, IMO. I would have preferred they stuck with the crazy cult concept for Jacob and left Faith as the only character with metaphysical elements.

    - Fishing was on point and I spent too much time fishing. Hunting, conversely, was just a boring exercise. If I didn't HAVE to do it, I didn't bother. It was easy enough to earn money from side missions and fishing to the point where hunting wasn't really necessary.

    - Graphically, much like Guerrila Games did with Horizon a year ago, Ubisoft really nailed the Rocky Mountain west. The terrain, rivers, flora and fauna - all very well done and makes Hope County Montana a very believable and interesting location.

    - Far Cry Arcade has potential but right now there’s limited curation meaning most of the maps you get are pretty weak. Hopefully it gets better as more assets are added and people get more time behind the map creator.

    - And finally, the ending(s) were absolutely awful. I realize "Far Cry Ending is Bad" has practically become a meme at this point but these endings doubled down on that and went almost Mass Effect 3 levels of bad. I can't really go into detail here without spoilers but the endings were so disappointing that they soured my entire view of the game and makes me not want to play it again. I'm knocking a full point off the score for this fact alone.

All in all, decent. But part of me wishes I had just rented it instead.

The way Ubisoft has so rigidly stuck to virtually the exact same formula since Far Cry 3 is frankly laughable and you can almost imagine the developers working through a check list of everything they have to include when creating these games. The core gameplay does remain relatively fun but as a single player experience I'd have had absolutely no interest in playing through another one of these games and its about time Ubisoft at least attempted innovate the franchise.

Having said that I have found it still makes for a worthwhile co-op experience and, seeing as the game is relatively cheap these days, its worth picking up to play through the entire campaign with a friend.

The nigh-constant spawning/de-spawning of enemies, friendlies, and animals reminds me of older GTA titles. Example: A bear attacks some cows in a pasture; you shift your view towards a nearby outpost, take a few quick steps, turn around, and the bear and cows are gone. The clash of all of these scripted/unscripted events seems only lends to the overall sense of chaos that saturates this wild caricature of 'Murican culture and violent extremism in the face of social and political pressure. This general premise echoes real-world events and concerns, but all of the blind patriotism and fanaticism boils down to window dressing for a flawed-but-fun sandbox romp that seems a bit half-baked.

The visuals generate impressive vistas, but aggressive LOD and pop-in occasionally mar the view--even on a PS4 Pro. The textures and details are more than decent, however--especially in comparison to the previous games. The music and sound effects are solid, but recycled assets are readily apparent. There are some licensed tracks that lend flavor to certain scenes and stifle the monotony of driving down these dusty roads.

All things considered, FC5 is best enjoyed in small doses--lest the repetitive noise of its chaos and tropes grind one's enthusiasm into Montana's dirt.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Have played for about 15 hours and am going crazy with that psalm singing blaring from every radio and house!!!! You can't turn it off!! I shot one radio in a house and that seemed to work! The radio in the car plays 2 stations: either that holy roller crap or hard punk rock!! Makes it hard to hear what NPC's are saying or that dude that contacts you all the time, Dutch. Very distracting!! At least in Far Cry 3 you had good music in the vehicles and Robbie Ray Rana in Far Cry 4 who was hilarious. And the NPC's said funny things. There's nothing funny about this fanatical cult. Story is kinda boring - I've forgotten what I'm supposed to be doing several times. Game does not explain crafting or plant gathering and there is no crafting of pouches, etc, which was fun in other games. Doesn't really seem like a Far Cry game just an open world shooter. The character you play doesn't even speak!! Therefore, you can't get interested in her/him. At least that knucklehead, Jason, talked and you kinda felt sorry for him. Other thing I can't stand is the cult members appear out of nowhere and you constantly get distracted from the quest you are on to fight them. Seems like every vehicle that drives by is a cult member out to get you. Haven't found any cool caves yet either just a lot of woods and farm animals (did get to see a horny bull!) and some wild animals. Thought I could play the Arcade thing solo but it requires Playstation Plus which I refuse to buy. Not a game that makes you want to keep playing all the time. Expand

Unfortunately it's to the point where it interferes with me when I don't want it. I's also not very good. To the point I'd say the story is actually really.. quite poor. I did most of the game with the base weapons because there's a trophy that makes me spend 50,000 in the vehicle shop.. which took up most of my money. Although that wasn't the main factor, the other part was that I couldn't figure out if any of the other guns were any different or even worth investing into. They all seemed like the same gun with the same power to me. Overall kind of useless to have so many guns and so much possibility and use almost the default load out the whole game.

A couple of the people you can hire to travel with you are pretty great. And it's pretty satisfying blowing people up. There's never any real insane moments though. Nothing spectacular. They're all pretty short sequences with 2-3 guys or 2 sets of 2-3 guys running or driving in. There's only a couple enemy types as well which is kind of boring.

There's so many loading screens, it's ridiculous. You fail any quest and you're back to loading 40 seconds with a ps4 pro. I'm not even sure what it's loading sometimes.

Multiplayer is pretty fun but that's mainly because it's mp. Sometimes the connecting player seems to have lag issues though. And they can't unlock most of the trophies from campaign unless they are the host.

This game is also more difficult than the previous entries in the series which is good. The crafting system has been replaced with a perk list. This is unfortunate because instead of living off the land you earn points to spend in a perk tree. With that said, the world is beautiful and the sound design is even better. The world feels like it's lived in and never feels empty. While I'm on the note, the world can sometimes become to busy. Often times you'll run into a handful of enemies within 20-30 seconds. It become ridiculous and frustrating when you can't catch a break. It becomes unrealistic and takes away from the fun. No spoilers, but I hate the ending of the main story as well. I believe there is different endings but the one I got, and assume most others will get, is very weird and a awful ending. I still want to see more of this series but I want it to evolve like Assassin's Creed did last year with Origins. Far Cry 6 needs to have a compelling story that we haven't seen before. It needs to have great characters and some truly innovative gameplay changed or this series might be in trouble. Expand

I’m not sure what kind of vibranium are theirs helmets made of. Then, when I almost to give the game a solid 8 for the story and fun of it I remember the lame driving system. No realism, no sense in the steering system, absolutely no sense in the speed, you are at 100 km/h (60mp/h) at the road, you take the foot from the gas pedal and in less then two seconds speed is halved. If you don’t want to make a good driving system, don’t propose to put driving as such an important part of the game. There is co-op but it's invite-only. The map editor is back, a feature that has been absent since Far Cry 2 a decade ago, but it feels like everything in Arcade Mode including that was tacked on at the very last moment. Overall the gameplay is starting to feel outdated, and also further plagued by glitches, a couple of them even quest-breaking.

It's obviously not the best in the series, but I don't think it's the worst either considering the game's lasting appeal.

Far Cry 5 is the first numbered game I’ve played in the series since far cry 2…
After hearing such great things about this game I thought my experience would be even better since Far Cry 5 would feel so fresh and new to me because I haven’t played 3 or 4..
I wouldn’t have that this is just more of the same kind feeling..
And despite this.. that feeling is exactly what I got here..
Far Cry 5 feels like just another bland and boring shooter…
The game takes play in a fictional hope county Montana USA
you play as your own created character out to take down Joseph Seed… A cult leader..
But to get to him in car cry fashion you have to regain control and liberate 3 different territories and take down his 3 siblings….
You can take them down in and order you’d like.. though the game suggests you start in the south and make your way up, so this is exactly what I did starting with John Seed…
And by this games roughly 28 hour long campaign you’ll understand exactly why the game suggests you start at the bottom and work your way up..
John seeds section is easily the strongest part of the game in terms of world building and level design… every area of this section of the map is memorable, it feels worth exploring for its treasures, the side quests feel worth doing…
And this is the majority of the campaign as well, taking me about 13 hours to clear, and then it’s on top faith seed which took about 10 hours to clear… the world building is miles weaker, but these 10 hours are saved by one of my favorite villains in video game history..
This was hands down my favorite chunk of the game thanks to how unique her individual missions are as you’re dealing with something called the bliss.. this causes hallucinations, and a creepily charming, seductive and hypnotic crazy girl that we’ve all dated before, and then the final 5 hours of the game is dealing with the mediocre Jacob seed section…
the world building in the north of this map is mind numbing garbage.. no heart here whatsoever…
so I’m happy it takes up so little of the campaign time…
But to get to these story missions you have to bring these characters out.. you have to cause mayhem around the world..
and this is what far cry fans love about the game…
liberating posts, destroying property, rescuing characters and animals like cheese burger the bear to call them in to help you during missions, you Can even play through the world co op with friends
and after you’ve done enough damage you’ll be marked and they will hunt you down and you then have to escape whatever scenario you find yourself in.. sadly, though there are only 3 missions for each character aside from their introduction…
    such a massive disappointment..
especially with a character such as faith seed..
it’s a shame how underused she is
I honestly would’ve preferred if she was the only character in the game, and we were constantly dealing with her tricks and seduction..
    shes so well written,
sadly this isn’t what we get… I feel that the first chunk if this game is the only section where any of this chaos causing gar cry fans enjoy is any fun
the faith seed section is saved by the character, but that’s the only redeeming quality.. the world gets more bland as the game goes on
After I cleared the first part of the map I resorted to just clearing missions with a helicopter.. that’s how little I cared to explore..
outside of the campaign there is a decently fun arcade mode where you can build your own singpleypalyer, co op, or death match maps using assets from the past far cry games and even games like assassins creed..
    plenty to get creative with..
but if you’re like me and creating the levels isn’t your thing you can just hop in to play other peoples maps or even have some decently fun competitive play with some alright maps thrown in there…
there isn’t the call of duty polish here, but I had a decent amount of fun.
Far Cry 5 has its moments of greatness despite feeling a bit lazy as it goes on.
this would’ve been a better game had it been smaller and more polished with much more narrative focus
I know Ubisoft would disagree with such a statement but at the end of the game I think we can all agree
We need a faith seed game
    I give Far Cry 5
    a 7.5/10

You - your character, is again, boring and uninteresting silent protagonist. For Far Cry it's fine, since I know as a fan, that's OK for other fans too, but they REALLY did not invent anything new here. It's too safe, no crazy missions, no crazy subplot or moments, very uninspiring story that does not show you anything impactful. Side characters are OK, Nick is probably the best as the extra missions with him are quite fun.
Critics are giving too high score. Paid by Ubisoft, I assume.

MECHANICS: It's a solid build up and mix of FC4 and Primal. I really like the mechanics. Game looks great on PS4 but no 60fps is just not acceptable and I will repeat this as many times as needed. We have xbox one x and ps4 pro capable of 4K but we can't do 60 even at 720p? cmon.
Overall mechanics are good, apart from kidnaping part. I am glad to see no more XP bar!
P.S Physics are not great though, even Far Cry 2 had better engine
    .
REPLAYABILITY: very small. They changed the way you do missions and side missions, some of which are long, but most are short. By playing 3-4 h a day, you can finish everything in 7-10 days.
Despite it being open world - there is little to find and explore. Obviously no cities. Only 1 town and very small. No fortresses

ARCADE MODE and MP: amazing potential, but at current state? It's a f-ing joke. MP maps are one of the worst. People recreate Nuketown from Call of Duty and maps from other games and they play nothing but that! You hardly can match up to play other maps, there is no playlist. I really hope they update it to fix all of these. In this current state, it's an unfinished, rushed thing.

TLDR: game is fun, expected better story.

Offers some mindless fun, with lots of ways to get around the map and complete the missions. You know what you're getting into with Far Cry, and it scratches the itch perfectly.

You can say this is one of the best farcry games, but also one of the worst, because of this

+ faith is a pretty unique character
+ tons of content in arcade mode ( which is logical )
+ you can tame a bear
+ vehicles have good controls ,i don't know tf people talk about
    negative
    - boring story
    - the villains are boring, only faith is interesting
    - not so many guns, which causes repetivity
    - few things are missing in arcade mode, like making enemies stronger, making enemies follow indicated paths
-also some annoying things like ,AI area is not clear, then **** show me where that issue is,because of that i sometimes have to delete every AI in the map
    - dumb AI overall
    conclusion:
If you look in terms of content and blasting fun ,this may be the best farcry
If you look at it as a game ,with a story, this is one of the worst ,and is a huge disappointment on that part
Am i overall disappointed with farcry ? yes and no
Buy this if you want tons of content to do,don't buy this if you want a story

Story is a CRAP, waste of ideas and money. I hate all those close-to-your-face-1-person-view main hero speeches!

Main characters are so annoying that I only missed the oportunity to kill them and not to listen to the mad crap they were talking. Other then that, game is a bunch of fun! Graphics is good and side quests are really fun. So if you are looking for fun game, that can eat

Far Cry 5 is very much your typical Ubisoft open world adventure. Huge map, lots of repetitive tasks to do and things to collect. Although it's a little smarter on how it presents this information to you, it's still largely the same. Not to say this is a bad mark on the game but it’s provides nothing new to the table.

The story is weak and the characters didn't do much for me either.

The story is weak and the characters didn't do much for me either. The game forcibly takes you away from its open world many times to play its story, even when you are doing something else like another side quest for instance. You can be in the middle of taking with an NPC and it will pull you out. It becomes incredibly irritating.

The combat is extremely satisfying and there’s a lot of different ways on how you can approach a task. You can take it from the air, silently, or guns blazing... the game won’t penalize you whatever the case although the AI could be a lot more forgiving when it comes to stealth.

Arcade mode you can give a pass, the competitive multiplayer is barely functional and the maps are not very fun to play.

Overall, this is an ideal podcast type game. It's a serviceable game. It’s a lot of the same tasks throughout but the combat makes it fun to do so it might just be enough to tide you in, just don’t expect anything more than what you've already come to expect from an Ubisoft open world title otherwise you’re going to be left disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, I am not interested in politics beliefs being forced on me while playing a game, so I am relieved this game did not dive deep into the current American political landscape. Most negative reviews focus on that, I think it is silly to expect such a thing from any game, but especially something like Far Cry. That said the story is a bit empty, I think it would be more engaging if the central character, "the deputy", spoke. Silent protagonists are weird and I can never relate to them.
Story aside Hope County, Montana is an interesting place from afar. With all the delay and hype I was a bit surprised at how similar Far Cry 5's new engine resembles the build from Far Cry 4 and primal. The environment is pretty and colorful but lacks depth, you do not feel like you can really engage with anything. Think GTA V, almost 5 years old now, where you feel compelled to study the little details in a room or on a landscape and actually feel like they can be interacted with. Not to mention most things you shoot do not react. There is a somewhat plastic like feel to Far Cry 5 that is hard to ignore, like you could easily punch through the surface. This is the same issue as it's predecessors and something I expected would change. How a game like Far Cry 5 in 2018 has not better incorporated destructible environments and detail rich landscapes is beyond me. And be prepared, because just like the last two games there are only about 2 or 3 villain models, so you often find you are shooting and blowing up the same guys over and over. Revamping these types of details, richer more immersive environments and a speaking protagonist would go a long way to make Far Cry 5 a better and more memorable game. Wasn't that the whole point of waiting 2-3 years?
The weapons: I feel like the last two games respectively had an increasing arsenal that never left you wanting more. It was a nice surprise after completing a long campaign mission in Far Cry 4 to be rewarded with new weapons to buy that had previously not been visible in the store. It left something to work for, and a surprise to be excited about as you progressed. Here, perhaps because of the inclusion of more vehicles, the weapons selection is hugely trimmed down. I kept waiting for more to appear but now at the end of the game I realize that is not going to happen. I was very disappointed not to see more contemporary weapons and just a small variety of classics. For example the sub machine gun category basically has two guns, an old WW2 era machine gun with low damage that oddly becomes available later in the game, and three varieties of the MP5 all with basically the same stats. With sniper rifles and assault rifles it is the same situation: 2-3 choices. This is the 5th iteration and the games central appeal is gun play yet Ubisoft removes 75% of the guns from the game leaving a bare bones selection that you tire of quickly. This results in the guns that require further progression to unlock and buy are the same guns you already have, just with a different paint job or shorter stock, pretty lame. The mod system is exactly the same as the last two games as well, I was hoping for a grenade launcher attachment or laser sights, something to set this game apart.
These complaints aside Far Cry 5 has its moments. A truck would come out of nowhere and crash me off the road, forcing me to think fast and fight for my life. Or I would have to jump into a tractor and mow down zombie-like drugged cultists. Often times the game would take you somewhere when you least expected it, and mostly it was fun. Far Cry 5 shines in these little moments. Also some of the less significant characters are quite entertaining. The Peggy's philosophy could be better developed and more intriguing to add a level of complexity that is missing. It can also be frustrating to have just taken over an outpost and still be looting the place, to suddenly become drugged and whisked off to one of Faith's weird hallucinations in the Bliss. It is times like these where the action in Far Cry 5 is actually at odds with the story. I don't care about your stupid nonsensical beliefs, I was in the middle of hunting a bear! In the new progression system you increase your resistance level by completing missions, helping the rebels and capturing outposts, but reaching a certain level causes you to suddenly be forced to take part in a boss battle after barely surviving the capturing of an outpost when you have few supplies remaining. Bad timing, let me prepare for the fight with the tools you have made available instead of forcing me into one. Overall I was disappointed after all the waiting and hype, but it is still a Far Cry game at its core and most fans will have a good time returning to this universe, though it may leave a few things to be desired. Lets hope the upcoming DLC will help and hopefully add more weapons, I did buy the season pass after all! 7.5/10

Far Cry 5 is the first FarCry game I've been playing since Far Cry 1 on PC because I like the idea of fighting some weird and crazy Catholic cult in the US ... And it was the best experience in FarCry series... Much more complex map, great location of Montana based world, good visual look and fun gameplay with companions, fishing and prepper stashes, Arcade mode... But on the other hand there is a bunch of imperfections which we are used to in Ubisoft games.. like small amount of weapons to use, no dificulty cause enemies are very dumb, lengthy and quite stupid story, your main hero is void and without character, very unconvincing ending.... So for me, yeah, it's worth the money but after you finish it, there are no things that will force you to play it again, except of few hours in Arcade mode ... Final rating is 7/10. Expand

Far Cry 5 pits the player against an armed religious cult in yet another Ubisoft sandbox, this time set in rural America. The mesmerising Joseph Seed leads the Project at Eden's Gate cult and makes for a fun to watch antagonist. Playing as a Sheriff's deputy, your task is to oust Joseph from power and free your allies after your attempt to arrest him went south.

It's an enjoyable FPS game that's not afraid to get silly at times - some of the side quests are quite amusing and the ample selection of weapons, vehicles and companions let you wreak havoc however you see fit. You can tackle the game's three main regions in any order, and you progress the overall story by doing pretty much any activity you run into. The charisma of Far Cry 5's big bad is the story's greatest asset, and although some plot points are rather nonsensical, it's a compelling enough ride. The ending is suitably disturbing and caps the game off nicely.

The gameplay is par for the course for this kind of title. You've got enough options in combat and traversal that you'll find something that clicks, but nothing is exceptional or truly innovative. It's good enough but it doesn't break the mould. Unfortunately, I ran into a number of bugs during my playthrough, a couple of which were quite disruptive.

Far Cry 5 is a safe bet if you're looking for a solid open world FPS with a good balance of exploration, combat, and story. It didn't blow me away but it ticked the right boxes and I had fun with it.

This fresh take on the Far Cry franchise is clearly visible content-wise, but a tad more discrete on the style. If you're not bothered by the slightly repetitive formula, you'll enjoy the many strengths of this episode.

Far Cry 5 established itself as one of the best in the series, The game features some gorgeous scenery, an engaging story and the overall story is great fun and the theme is very realistic. The game mixes up the missions so it doesn't get repetitive halfway through the game. Far Cry 5 is a great entry to the series for newbies and veterans alike.
