    - Gameplay was pretty solid, though it felt like there were too few gun types per category. SMGs had like 3 variants of the MP5, for example. SMGs had like 3 variants of the MP5, for example. Driving controls are better this time around but flying controls are just… ugh. I’d rather have Ghost Recon Wildlands’ helicopter controls over FC5’s. Also, I must say I did NOT like how the game would force you into story missions each time you'd reach a new resistance level, especially since doing so could make you miss main story missions if something untoward happened to a quest NPC during the forced story event.

    - Soundtrack was fantastic. I really appreciated the hand crafted hymnals which were created specifically for Eden's Gate and the ambient Americana music while exploring fit very well.

    - John Seed’s story arc was probably the best of the three because it fit the crazy cult story line the closest. Faith Seed and Jacob Seed were essentially the same mindscrew, except one used drugs and the other used psychological conditioning. Neither were really interesting, IMO. I would have preferred they stuck with the crazy cult concept for Jacob and left Faith as the only character with metaphysical elements.

    - Fishing was on point and I spent too much time fishing. Hunting, conversely, was just a boring exercise. If I didn't HAVE to do it, I didn't bother. It was easy enough to earn money from side missions and fishing to the point where hunting wasn't really necessary.

    - Graphically, much like Guerrila Games did with Horizon a year ago, Ubisoft really nailed the Rocky Mountain west. The terrain, rivers, flora and fauna - all very well done and makes Hope County Montana a very believable and interesting location.

    - Far Cry Arcade has potential but right now there’s limited curation meaning most of the maps you get are pretty weak. Hopefully it gets better as more assets are added and people get more time behind the map creator.

    - And finally, the ending(s) were absolutely awful. I realize "Far Cry Ending is Bad" has practically become a meme at this point but these endings doubled down on that and went almost Mass Effect 3 levels of bad. I can't really go into detail here without spoilers but the endings were so disappointing that they soured my entire view of the game and makes me not want to play it again. I'm knocking a full point off the score for this fact alone.

All in all, decent. But part of me wishes I had just rented it instead.

The way Ubisoft has so rigidly stuck to virtually the exact same formula since Far Cry 3 is frankly laughable and you can almost imagine the developers working through a check list of everything they have to include when creating these games. The core gameplay does remain relatively fun but as a single player experience I'd have had absolutely no interest in playing through another one of these games and its about time Ubisoft at least attempted innovate the franchise.

Having said that I have found it still makes for a worthwhile co-op experience and, seeing as the game is relatively cheap these days, its worth picking up to play through the entire campaign with a friend.

The nigh-constant spawning/de-spawning of enemies, friendlies, and animals reminds me of older GTA titles. Example: A bear attacks some cows in a pasture; you shift your view towards a nearby outpost, take a few quick steps, turn around, and the bear and cows are gone. The clash of all of these scripted/unscripted events seems only lends to the overall sense of chaos that saturates this wild caricature of 'Murican culture and violent extremism in the face of social and political pressure. This general premise echoes real-world events and concerns, but all of the blind patriotism and fanaticism boils down to window dressing for a flawed-but-fun sandbox romp that seems a bit half-baked.

The visuals generate impressive vistas, but aggressive LOD and pop-in occasionally mar the view--even on a PS4 Pro. The textures and details are more than decent, however--especially in comparison to the previous games. The music and sound effects are solid, but recycled assets are readily apparent. There are some licensed tracks that lend flavor to certain scenes and stifle the monotony of driving down these dusty roads.

All things considered, FC5 is best enjoyed in small doses--lest the repetitive noise of its chaos and tropes grind one's enthusiasm into Montana's dirt.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Have played for about 15 hours and am going crazy with that psalm singing blaring from every radio and house!!!! You can't turn it off!! I shot one radio in a house and that seemed to work! The radio in the car plays 2 stations: either that holy roller crap or hard punk rock!! Makes it hard to hear what NPC's are saying or that dude that contacts you all the time, Dutch. Very distracting!! At least in Far Cry 3 you had good music in the vehicles and Robbie Ray Rana in Far Cry 4 who was hilarious. And the NPC's said funny things. There's nothing funny about this fanatical cult. Story is kinda boring - I've forgotten what I'm supposed to be doing several times. Game does not explain crafting or plant gathering and there is no crafting of pouches, etc, which was fun in other games. Doesn't really seem like a Far Cry game just an open world shooter. The character you play doesn't even speak!! Therefore, you can't get interested in her/him. At least that knucklehead, Jason, talked and you kinda felt sorry for him. Other thing I can't stand is the cult members appear out of nowhere and you constantly get distracted from the quest you are on to fight them. Seems like every vehicle that drives by is a cult member out to get you. Haven't found any cool caves yet either just a lot of woods and farm animals (did get to see a horny bull!) and some wild animals. Thought I could play the Arcade thing solo but it requires Playstation Plus which I refuse to buy. Not a game that makes you want to keep playing all the time. Expand

Unfortunately it's to the point where it interferes with me when I don't want it. I's also not very good. To the point I'd say the story is actually really.. quite poor. I did most of the game with the base weapons because there's a trophy that makes me spend 50,000 in the vehicle shop.. which took up most of my money. Although that wasn't the main factor, the other part was that I couldn't figure out if any of the other guns were any different or even worth investing into. They all seemed like the same gun with the same power to me. Overall kind of useless to have so many guns and so much possibility and use almost the default load out the whole game.

A couple of the people you can hire to travel with you are pretty great. And it's pretty satisfying blowing people up. There's never any real insane moments though. Nothing spectacular. They're all pretty short sequences with 2-3 guys or 2 sets of 2-3 guys running or driving in. There's only a couple enemy types as well which is kind of boring.

There's so many loading screens, it's ridiculous. You fail any quest and you're back to loading 40 seconds with a ps4 pro. I'm not even sure what it's loading sometimes.

Multiplayer is pretty fun but that's mainly because it's mp. Sometimes the connecting player seems to have lag issues though. And they can't unlock most of the trophies from campaign unless they are the host.

This game is also more difficult than the previous entries in the series which is good. The crafting system has been replaced with a perk list. This is unfortunate because instead of living off the land you earn points to spend in a perk tree. With that said, the world is beautiful and the sound design is even better. The world feels like it's lived in and never feels empty. While I'm on the note, the world can sometimes become to busy. Often times you'll run into a handful of enemies within 20-30 seconds. It become ridiculous and frustrating when you can't catch a break. It becomes unrealistic and takes away from the fun. No spoilers, but I hate the ending of the main story as well. I believe there is different endings but the one I got, and assume most others will get, is very weird and a awful ending. I still want to see more of this series but I want it to evolve like Assassin's Creed did last year with Origins. Far Cry 6 needs to have a compelling story that we haven't seen before. It needs to have great characters and some truly innovative gameplay changed or this series might be in trouble. Expand

I’m not sure what kind of vibranium are theirs helmets made of. Then, when I almost to give the game a solid 8 for the story and fun of it I remember the lame driving system. No realism, no sense in the steering system, absolutely no sense in the speed, you are at 100 km/h (60mp/h) at the road, you take the foot from the gas pedal and in less then two seconds speed is halved. If you don’t want to make a good driving system, don’t propose to put driving as such an important part of the game. There is co-op but it's invite-only. The map editor is back, a feature that has been absent since Far Cry 2 a decade ago, but it feels like everything in Arcade Mode including that was tacked on at the very last moment. Overall the gameplay is starting to feel outdated, and also further plagued by glitches, a couple of them even quest-breaking.

It's obviously not the best in the series, but I don't think it's the worst either considering the game's lasting appeal.

Far Cry 5 is the first numbered game I’ve played in the series since far cry 2…
After hearing such great things about this game I thought my experience would be even better since Far Cry 5 would feel so fresh and new to me because I haven’t played 3 or 4..
I wouldn’t have that this is just more of the same kind feeling..
And despite this.. that feeling is exactly what I got here..
Far Cry 5 feels like just another bland and boring shooter…
The game takes play in a fictional hope county Montana USA
you play as your own created character out to take down Joseph Seed… A cult leader..
But to get to him in car cry fashion you have to regain control and liberate 3 different territories and take down his 3 siblings….
You can take them down in and order you’d like.. though the game suggests you start in the south and make your way up, so this is exactly what I did starting with John Seed…
And by this games roughly 28 hour long campaign you’ll understand exactly why the game suggests you start at the bottom and work your way up..
John seeds section is easily the strongest part of the game in terms of world building and level design… every area of this section of the map is memorable, it feels worth exploring for its treasures, the side quests feel worth doing…
And this is the majority of the campaign as well, taking me about 13 hours to clear, and then it’s on top faith seed which took about 10 hours to clear… the world building is miles weaker, but these 10 hours are saved by one of my favorite villains in video game history..
This was hands down my favorite chunk of the game thanks to how unique her individual missions are as you’re dealing with something called the bliss.. this causes hallucinations, and a creepily charming, seductive and hypnotic crazy girl that we’ve all dated before, and then the final 5 hours of the game is dealing with the mediocre Jacob seed section…
the world building in the north of this map is mind numbing garbage.. no heart here whatsoever…
so I’m happy it takes up so little of the campaign time…
But to get to these story missions you have to bring these characters out.. you have to cause mayhem around the world..
and this is what far cry fans love about the game…
liberating posts, destroying property, rescuing characters and animals like cheese burger the bear to call them in to help you during missions, you Can even play through the world co op with friends
and after you’ve done enough damage you’ll be marked and they will hunt you down and you then have to escape whatever scenario you find yourself in.. sadly, though there are only 3 missions for each character aside from their introduction…
    such a massive disappointment..
especially with a character such as faith seed..
it’s a shame how underused she is
I honestly would’ve preferred if she was the only character in the game, and we were constantly dealing with her tricks and seduction..
    shes so well written,
sadly this isn’t what we get… I feel that the first chunk if this game is the only section where any of this chaos causing gar cry fans enjoy is any fun
the faith seed section is saved by the character, but that’s the only redeeming quality.. the world gets more bland as the game goes on
After I cleared the first part of the map I resorted to just clearing missions with a helicopter.. that’s how little I cared to explore..
outside of the campaign there is a decently fun arcade mode where you can build your own singpleypalyer, co op, or death match maps using assets from the past far cry games and even games like assassins creed..
    plenty to get creative with..
but if you’re like me and creating the levels isn’t your thing you can just hop in to play other peoples maps or even have some decently fun competitive play with some alright maps thrown in there…
there isn’t the call of duty polish here, but I had a decent amount of fun.
Far Cry 5 has its moments of greatness despite feeling a bit lazy as it goes on.
this would’ve been a better game had it been smaller and more polished with much more narrative focus
I know Ubisoft would disagree with such a statement but at the end of the game I think we can all agree
We need a faith seed game
    I give Far Cry 5
    a 7.5/10

You - your character, is again, boring and uninteresting silent protagonist. For Far Cry it's fine, since I know as a fan, that's OK for other fans too, but they REALLY did not invent anything new here. It's too safe, no crazy missions, no crazy subplot or moments, very uninspiring story that does not show you anything impactful. Side characters are OK, Nick is probably the best as the extra missions with him are quite fun.
Critics are giving too high score. Paid by Ubisoft, I assume.

MECHANICS: It's a solid build up and mix of FC4 and Primal. I really like the mechanics. Game looks great on PS4 but no 60fps is just not acceptable and I will repeat this as many times as needed. We have xbox one x and ps4 pro capable of 4K but we can't do 60 even at 720p? cmon.
Overall mechanics are good, apart from kidnaping part. I am glad to see no more XP bar!
P.S Physics are not great though, even Far Cry 2 had better engine
    .
REPLAYABILITY: very small. They changed the way you do missions and side missions, some of which are long, but most are short. By playing 3-4 h a day, you can finish everything in 7-10 days.
Despite it being open world - there is little to find and explore. Obviously no cities. Only 1 town and very small. No fortresses

ARCADE MODE and MP: amazing potential, but at current state? It's a f-ing joke. MP maps are one of the worst. People recreate Nuketown from Call of Duty and maps from other games and they play nothing but that! You hardly can match up to play other maps, there is no playlist. I really hope they update it to fix all of these. In this current state, it's an unfinished, rushed thing.

TLDR: game is fun, expected better story.

Offers some mindless fun, with lots of ways to get around the map and complete the missions. You know what you're getting into with Far Cry, and it scratches the itch perfectly.

    - boring story

    - not so many guns, which causes repetivity
    - few things are missing in arcade mode, like making enemies stronger, making enemies follow indicated paths

    - dumb AI overall
    conclusion:
If you look in terms of content and blasting fun ,this may be the best farcry

Far Cry 5 is very much your typical Ubisoft open world adventure. Huge map, lots of repetitive tasks to do and things to collect. Although it's a little smarter on how it presents this information to you, it's still largely the same. Not to say this is a bad mark on the game but it’s provides nothing new to the table.

The story is weak and the characters didn't do much for me either.

The story is weak and the characters didn't do much for me either. The game forcibly takes you away from its open world many times to play its story, even when you are doing something else like another side quest for instance. You can be in the middle of taking with an NPC and it will pull you out. It becomes incredibly irritating.

The combat is extremely satisfying and there’s a lot of different ways on how you can approach a task. You can take it from the air, silently, or guns blazing... the game won’t penalize you whatever the case although the AI could be a lot more forgiving when it comes to stealth.

Arcade mode you can give a pass, the competitive multiplayer is barely functional and the maps are not very fun to play.

Overall, this is an ideal podcast type game. It's a serviceable game. It’s a lot of the same tasks throughout but the combat makes it fun to do so it might just be enough to tide you in, just don’t expect anything more than what you've already come to expect from an Ubisoft open world title otherwise you’re going to be left disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, I am not interested in politics beliefs being forced on me while playing a game, so I am relieved this game did not dive deep into the current American political landscape. Most negative reviews focus on that, I think it is silly to expect such a thing from any game, but especially something like Far Cry. That said the story is a bit empty, I think it would be more engaging if the central character, "the deputy", spoke. Silent protagonists are weird and I can never relate to them.
Story aside Hope County, Montana is an interesting place from afar. With all the delay and hype I was a bit surprised at how similar Far Cry 5's new engine resembles the build from Far Cry 4 and primal. The environment is pretty and colorful but lacks depth, you do not feel like you can really engage with anything. Think GTA V, almost 5 years old now, where you feel compelled to study the little details in a room or on a landscape and actually feel like they can be interacted with. Not to mention most things you shoot do not react. There is a somewhat plastic like feel to Far Cry 5 that is hard to ignore, like you could easily punch through the surface. This is the same issue as it's predecessors and something I expected would change. How a game like Far Cry 5 in 2018 has not better incorporated destructible environments and detail rich landscapes is beyond me. And be prepared, because just like the last two games there are only about 2 or 3 villain models, so you often find you are shooting and blowing up the same guys over and over. Revamping these types of details, richer more immersive environments and a speaking protagonist would go a long way to make Far Cry 5 a better and more memorable game. Wasn't that the whole point of waiting 2-3 years?
The weapons: I feel like the last two games respectively had an increasing arsenal that never left you wanting more. It was a nice surprise after completing a long campaign mission in Far Cry 4 to be rewarded with new weapons to buy that had previously not been visible in the store. It left something to work for, and a surprise to be excited about as you progressed. Here, perhaps because of the inclusion of more vehicles, the weapons selection is hugely trimmed down. I kept waiting for more to appear but now at the end of the game I realize that is not going to happen. I was very disappointed not to see more contemporary weapons and just a small variety of classics. For example the sub machine gun category basically has two guns, an old WW2 era machine gun with low damage that oddly becomes available later in the game, and three varieties of the MP5 all with basically the same stats. With sniper rifles and assault rifles it is the same situation: 2-3 choices. This is the 5th iteration and the games central appeal is gun play yet Ubisoft removes 75% of the guns from the game leaving a bare bones selection that you tire of quickly. This results in the guns that require further progression to unlock and buy are the same guns you already have, just with a different paint job or shorter stock, pretty lame. The mod system is exactly the same as the last two games as well, I was hoping for a grenade launcher attachment or laser sights, something to set this game apart.
These complaints aside Far Cry 5 has its moments. A truck would come out of nowhere and crash me off the road, forcing me to think fast and fight for my life. Or I would have to jump into a tractor and mow down zombie-like drugged cultists. Often times the game would take you somewhere when you least expected it, and mostly it was fun. Far Cry 5 shines in these little moments. Also some of the less significant characters are quite entertaining. The Peggy's philosophy could be better developed and more intriguing to add a level of complexity that is missing. It can also be frustrating to have just taken over an outpost and still be looting the place, to suddenly become drugged and whisked off to one of Faith's weird hallucinations in the Bliss. It is times like these where the action in Far Cry 5 is actually at odds with the story. I don't care about your stupid nonsensical beliefs, I was in the middle of hunting a bear! In the new progression system you increase your resistance level by completing missions, helping the rebels and capturing outposts, but reaching a certain level causes you to suddenly be forced to take part in a boss battle after barely surviving the capturing of an outpost when you have few supplies remaining. Bad timing, let me prepare for the fight with the tools you have made available instead of forcing me into one. Overall I was disappointed after all the waiting and hype, but it is still a Far Cry game at its core and most fans will have a good time returning to this universe, though it may leave a few things to be desired. Lets hope the upcoming DLC will help and hopefully add more weapons, I did buy the season pass after all! 7.5/10

Playing as a Sheriff's deputy, your task is to oust Joseph from power and free your allies after your attempt to arrest him went south.

It's an enjoyable FPS game that's not afraid to get silly at times - some of the side quests are quite amusing and the ample selection of weapons, vehicles and companions let you wreak havoc however you see fit. You can tackle the game's three main regions in any order, and you progress the overall story by doing pretty much any activity you run into. The charisma of Far Cry 5's big bad is the story's greatest asset, and although some plot points are rather nonsensical, it's a compelling enough ride. The ending is suitably disturbing and caps the game off nicely.

The gameplay is par for the course for this kind of title. You've got enough options in combat and traversal that you'll find something that clicks, but nothing is exceptional or truly innovative. It's good enough but it doesn't break the mould. Unfortunately, I ran into a number of bugs during my playthrough, a couple of which were quite disruptive.

Far Cry 5 is a safe bet if you're looking for a solid open world FPS with a good balance of exploration, combat, and story. It didn't blow me away but it ticked the right boxes and I had fun with it.

    - you can kill a person with one shot but animals will run away and seem to take more damage

    - After acquiring a cool truck, I fast traveled and the truck was gone. I went back to the location where I found it and it was not there.

    - Outposts are super easy to take over

    - I am curious why there are no native Americans in the game. I really enjoyed the Longmire TV series and felt the game could have gone a bit further in depth this way.

That being said, this game is good. An expansive environment and cast of characters give you a ton to do with your time in Hope County. I loved the idea of setting a game in modern-day America which can give you a real moral struggle when you're killing these cult members (who are really just American citizens who have been brainwashed by the Seed crew). If you liked/loved Far Cry 3,4, and/or Primal, you will definitely enjoy this game. However there are still the same drawbacks to those games in this one as well - the main one being repetitiveness. In order to fight a Lieutenant/Leader of a section of the Cult, you have to destabilize the region. Once all the Leaders have been taken care of, you can then move on to the final confrontation with the "Ultimate Leader".

Again, this game is good. Is it good enough to be advertised everywhere and plastered all over anything related to gaming for all of a month? No. Is it good enough to waste 20-40 hours of your life? Yes. Does it make you think critically about life choices? It tries. If you as a player do some critical thinking, it might be more than just a simple game. But in the end to me, that's really all it ended up being.

I didn't rush through it and took my time finishing a region before moving on to the next. Having played a lot of open world games, I was really hesitant about another open world where it's basically a checklist you're working through. I thought it would be really repetitive. I played Ghost Recon Wildlands last year which was fun at first but quickly turned into the same repetitive tasks as well as Assassins creed Origins which I didn't even finish. I pretty much always finish a game (I even ended up getting the platinum trophy for Wildlands!) but AC Origins was too much of the same thing, it got boring. Far Cry 5 has given me some of these moments but I'm still playing. Overall the environment is beautiful, I like the setting, nature, animals, day/night cycle. The missions are varied enough to keep me engaged with the exception of several useless missions which were awful and reminded me of Wildlands/Origins. Missions like 'collect 0/12 items' of this or that are pointless. Just like a mission forcing you to get roadkill kills and you’re driving around for an hour looking for that animal spawn. Complete waste of time, 0 fun, why? Whoever thought that would be a good mission should be fired. Let alone having to do it twice (once for deer and once for bison). Checking off outposts is getting kind of old too.
Other than that, exploring is a lot of fun. Everything looks good so it's nice to walk around and explore the environment, see what's in a house, checkout a good fishing spot etc. What really bothers me is the vehicle camera which can't be switched to 3rd person. It's ridiculous and makes driving a hassle. This in combination with nature being beautiful made it so I just walk somewhere to see my surroundings or get a helicopter (and I’m back to GR Wildlands flying from task to task). 0 incentive to drive vehicles has made me save up to over $75.000 in game dollars and I’ve bought all the weapons I want including several helicopters, planes, boats and cars. So people complaining about not having enough money is nonsense. The weapons are limited because a lot of them have the same stats. Customization is limited. Vehicles are annoying to drive so I don’t even bother buying them, they’re all the same and the in-vehicle camera is annoying. In addition to this you unlock plenty of vehicles in main missions. No incentive to buy vehicles.
Doubted my purchase thinking it would be another ‘chore’ playing it and travelling around the map ticking off boxes. It kind of is but I still found it worth it, largely due to the environment/exploring. I am ready for a new type of game though, probably God of War. I’ll come back to open world down the line.

So those saying this is a reskin of previous far cry titles, don't listen to them because they are being extremely disingenuous. This game has many new features that previous far cry games did not have. FC5 both expands upon good features and scraps bad features from previous FC games. The story doesn't make sense in the setting its presented in because this whole scenario would never happen in America. Previous FC games had settings that made sense. FC3 was set in a lone island and FC4 was set in the some remote country. FC5 is set in a county in Montana in the U.S. So right away, the story is off to a bad start, but its a fictional setting in a video game so i guess you can give it points for being cheesy. The weapon variety is not varried at all really. I hope that new community events will lead to more weapons being added like the vector was. If more weapons are added like that, then the game will be better off long term. Overall though, FC5 feels both refreshing and very familiar. Although, in the age of almost every video game being an open world title, i suppose its hard to make your open world game very different and unique. All in all, I've had a lot of fun playing FC5, but i don't see myself or my friend that i played the whole game cooperatively with, going through a second playthrough. I know people will both agree and disagree with my assessment of the game, but thats what metacritic is for. Expand

Having companions made it more entertaining and easier, weapons and customization are great although would be nicer if there were more weapons. Now let's talk about the ending which ultimately ruined the experience for me, I am not gonna spoil it but let's just say it is perhaps the worst ending I have seen in a long time.

Just Cause.

    Positives:
    - The game continues the trend of having some of the best and well written villains. Joseph, John, Jacob and Faith are all really good villains and each one's missions are unique.
    - There is a plethora of vehicles to buy/find and use. Cars, trucks, ATVs, boats, helicopters and planes are available to help you traverse and fight the enemies.
    - The number of outposts is just right, there aren't too many or too few. They all have different layouts, so every one of them feels like a new challenge.
    - The graphics are very good, even though the ground can be a little bland at times.
    - The Guns/Fangs For Hire is a very well implemented mechanic, your allies can be really helpful and there is a really diverse (when it comes to abilities) roster of special characters, so it's almost certain that you will find someone suiting your playstyle.

    Negatives:
    - The weapon selection is really bland. All the assault rifles feel basically the same and that's also true for the snipers.
    - The crafting system has really been downgraded. In previous games you had to collect skins from certain animals so you can carry more weapons, money, items and ammo. Now all of this is put into the perk system.
    - The perk system. I don't mind that the developers decided to ditch the "perk tree" system and basically allow you to buy any perk you want, given you have enough perk points. The problem is that you don't get points with XP like the previous games, you get them through challenges, perk magazines and some main missions, so there is no reason to really fight after a point and side missions also don't really have that much value. There are a lot of useless perks too

Conclusion: Far Cry 5 is a good and fun game that continues the series's run of good games, but it's flaws holds it back from being great.

I think where it fails most is by making your character an anonymous nameless male or female protagonist who never speaks. In some games this can work perfectly, but when the character is so integral to the story, it really doesn't.

In the previous games, NPCs were mostly soldiers in uniform, so repeating the same character models never really became an issue. However, the small roster of characters is very evident in Far Cry 5 to the point of being distracting.

I applaud the developer for trying to mix things up and try to freshen the game mechanics a little with the inclusion of a fishing mini game, planes and helicopters to fly, and the removal of the ubiquitous tower climbing. But, I actually liked the tower climbing in the other games, and seeing new locations revealed after conquering it. I missed it being in the game.

Another change is the introduction of buddies that can accompany you, some of whom bring air support. It's a nice idea, and the banter with them is very amusing at times, but it ultimately makes raiding enemy outposts much too easy. You can usually retake an outpost by sniping a few enemies and letting your buddy in the helicopter or plane finish the rest. There's not much of a challenge to it.

I wanted to like the story more than I did, but I found it very disjointed and jarring at times. I appreciate what they were trying to do, but it didn't really work for me. There were simply too many WTF moments, and not in a good way.

That said, I had fun with Far Cry 5. It's a quality product, albeit a flawed and forgettable one. The graphics are very pretty, the sound and music are nice, and shooting and blowing things up is still as satisfying as ever.

Many of FC 5's theme's are a bit cringe and lame, such as the "angels" (pretty much zombies) and the boss battles left a lot to be desired. Many parts of the game were down right irritating. I completed the game 100%, collected all the collectibles, went through all the missions and I can confidently say that ... well, meh. The conclusion is ambiguous. A beautiful picture, optimization, convenient gameplay, a variety of everything - this is certainly great and cool ... the first couple of hours. Behind these pluses are their own minuses:
    1) Nice, but in some places there are flaws.
    2) Easy to play, too much. Too arcade and clumsy.
    3) There are various additional. quests, but after a couple of hours of playing, you start to go through them without enthusiasm.
    4) Nameless hero. You play as a faceless character with no name or history. You are just a body following orders. You do not feel like a significant character, but a simple NPC who, like everyone else, disappears around the corner. The problem is that you will not disappear, but you will be forced to wander through endless, beautiful meadows, high dangerous mountains in search of the same type of cutscene where Joseph again complains to you that you thwarted his plans.
By the way about Joseph. I've always liked antagonists in the FarCry series. Vaas, Pagan were interesting opponents. Joseph was no exception. The main character is fighting a tightly repulsed fanatic who has a goal as strange and unimaginable as himself. It is interesting to watch his efforts, failures, emotions (Though sometimes it seems too much ... yes, **** I'm talking about the snot scene. It's certainly cool that you decided to show Joseph's emotions to the maximum, but it's disgusting).
Missions in the game are default for the series ... and for many games, in principle: bring this, kill that, blow up something. Nothing to say about them, except one: THANKS ... UBISOFT ... for the coolest stunt missions of Clutch Nixon. These are really funny, interesting missions and with an awesome soundtrack (I even added myself to Spotify). There are of course a few other cool missions. I will not say that all missions are bad ... but most of them.
The verdict is as follows: 7 points. Even though more than half of the game sucks, I enjoyed it and I don’t regret wasting my time on it ... almost don’t regret it.

Expand

Removing the best Far Cry features, Far Cry 5 brings the series to a "generic FPS" state, which you are nobody and your only objective is to blow some heads. It has no narrative, storyline or character development, although it tries to address some deep themes. A really disappointing experience. Side missions varied with some really funny/interesting characters, such as Hurk’s dad and a movie director, with some duds, like kill animal/fetch quests. I ignored most of the side collectable activities because I did not find them very fun. These involved finding ways to get into underground bunkers to collect magazines for perk points and map exploration destruction targets (shrines and beacons). I did enjoy assaulting and taking control of cult outposts and the stunt devil activities. The companion system was a bit lackluster with active companions randomly disappearing. Instead of automatically re-appearing when their death/random disappearance timer expired you need to actively re-slot them which ended up just being annoying. Also, the companions control options were very bare bones and sometimes nonfunctional (example: controls of the helicopter companion involving landing). One constant annoyance I ran across was the number of interruptions by cultist aircraft. No matter where you are or what you are doing, the cult air force will make it their mission to interrupt quest progression activities (primarily interrupting turning in a quest or progressing NPC dialogue). My most memorable moment has to be the games’ ending. The game concludes on an interesting twist and provides a nice contrast to an otherwise mediocre tale of generic story villains. Expand

A friend called the game like Far Cry 4 on cocaine, and I definitely agree in part, but at the same time, the game is almost not similar to Far Cry 4. There are 4 villains, one of which is the main one, and the game allows you to kill whoever you want first. Completely gone are the towers for exploring the surroundings, which is solved here so that you simply accidentally find a building or something like that on the blind. It is the first part where you can create your character yourself, which is basically a small insignificant plus. Joseph Seed is a pretty interesting villain who has a pretty good motivation, but even so, his fanatical **** started to piss me off pretty quickly. The gameplay is a lot of fun and I didn't have time to get bored. Each boss fight was original in its own way, just like the bosses Faith, John and Jacob themselves. The arsenal of weapons here is great. There are definitely as many weapons as you will ever need. Activities in the open world like blasting tanks, liberation and others make the game even more fun and you can be helped in your journey by a friend you play with online or companions you get during the game. Unfortunately, the story here is downright subpar and it's better to ignore it. Physics lags behind, and you can't avoid repetition here either. Furthermore, complete illogicality... So 10X per game your character faints and appears next to the opponent. I can't say that, unlike its predecessors, it's a Masterpiece or an amazing game, but it's definitely a fun action ride that doesn't just get tired with its gameplay, but at the same time doesn't exactly excite you twice. You see... Far Cry 3 has always been my favorite game in the series. I played it for the first time some 5 years ago and I really enjoyed it and it set my mind on other Far Cry games. However, now a few years later, I have to say that Far Cry 4 is something unreal and that even Far Cry 3 does not reach it. + Negative + Gameplay and bosses + Arsenal of weapons + Open world + Possibility of multiplayer - The story - Physics - repetitiveness - illogicality 7/10 Expand

The enemies and allies alike seem to be a total of about 6 models, you'll start to see familiar faces over and over and over again. The allies in particular do not seem to know how to cross a road properly, and will do dumb stuff like run into a fire that you've created accidentally whilst blowing up a fuel truck. There is also a bug currently where you maybe stuck playing in night time mode, my suggestion is to find a quest/ liberate an outpost which has an ending cut scene that is in day time. The game does also have a sub par ending, but i won't go into that in detail. My overall feel of the environments would be like a 9/10 but the repetitive nature of enemies and the dumbed down AI system for both allies and foes, i'd give a 3/10. The gameplay such as fighting/driving i'd give a 7.5/10. Expand

I found this to be the worst Far Cry game so far. It didn't start particularly well, as my game froze for about 10 minutes on the first load. It didn't start particularly well, as my game froze for about 10 minutes on the first load. After a while, I closed the game and restarted it only for the same thing to happen again. After googling around I stumbled on the ubisoft support article explaining that if the game is frozen on an image of two people it's actually a character gender select screen and a gender should be selected. Unbelievable, so instead of some text stating it's a character select screen, or otherwise relaying via some other type of method asking me to select a character they decide to leave silhouettes of player models with no text and instead have a support page on the website explaining the player needs to select a model. Such a terrible design.

This poor start didn't improve through the beginning of the game. Aside from a very brief and simplistic intro to the world, you're sent off to figure everything out yourself.

The plot is poorly conveyed, and frankly boring. The 'story' missions are uninspired and tedious and most have very little bearing to the actual plot. I found the characters uninteresting.
In fact the entire game just feels like a series of incohesive quests dumped on a map, the narrative is thin and relayed terribly. Even Far Cry Primal felt like a more cohesive campaign than Far Cry 5.
I don't recall feeling this way with Far cry 3 or 4.
Even Far Cry 2 had me caught up on things fairly quickly.

Far Cry 5 doesn't give you actual story missions to visit (well aside from boss fights). You get character time with the main characters of the game mostly by completing a certain number of missions in particular regions of land. This means it's a fairly long time until you get to actually meet the Creed family and it can be a bit of a chore keeping interested by those points.
I found Jacob and John pretty pointless characters, but Faith was fascinating, and I wish the game was just about her and Joseph.

Overall the game is fairly straight forward, you get missions by meeting the right people in the world, finding those people, as well as unlocking fast travel points are the most important things in the game.
That combined with finding money stashes and perk point magazines, which you need to have any hope in getting decent weapons or abilities, means that exploring the whole world is very important. Plus as you meet the right people you'll get allies that will assist you and transport you around as well as revive you.
So essentially you have to forget about the actual plot of the game and just try to explore as much as you can, and once you're leveled up enough with weapons, allies, perks, and money the game starts to get a bit more interesting and it'll coincide with plot developments.

I kinda wish more character development, and world-building was done early in the game so it didn't feel like such a chore to actually get to a point where the game starts to become interesting.

The ending comes out of nowhere. I get that it's meant to signify that it's not just Montanna that's falling apart, but it really just comes out of nowhere and has no bearing with the story arc of the game. I don't recall any world-building within the game to prepare us for it.
I'm about to start New Dawn, so we'll see how I feel about it in the future.

Three things I wish were fixed with Far Cry 5 (side from the redundant character select screen):

There are no audio volume options, you can set the master volume and that's it, but the sound effects drown out the music and voice so you cant hear what characters are saying. I found myself constantly changing the volume on my tv to hear what characters say then turning it down after to stop the deafening sound effects. Use subtitles.

Ubisoft have removed the ability to toggle/filter a legend on the map, and also the ability to traverse through landmarks via dpad, making finding things on the map much harder than previous far cry games. I don't know why, and find it unnecessary and annoying.

The game is so empty, generic, hordes of enemies on the map with maximum 5 models of enemies, nonsense missions where you can finish the game just doing side missions which doesn't make any sense. Cutscenes are the only good in this game and your companions, everything else is already seen. Don't waste your money, I got it for 18$ and I'll survive.

-Like I said there is some fun to be had here either from the missions or something for you to do off on your own

-Almost everything you do contribute to the end game which works well with the openness of the world

-Some action pack moments that fans from previous Far Cry games can enjoy

    - Is welcoming to newcomers, some mechanics stick but newcomers can still enjoy the game-play and the world just as much as the fans of previous Far Cry

    Cons:
-The characters are often forgettable, there is a lot of characters in Far Cry 5 and I would often forget most of them because they were either uninteresting or didn't do much for me to remember them (just in a few cut scenes or quest givers)

-This is going back to characters but I think it is important to point out that the villains in the game can also be boring copy of one of the "final boss" traits which only makes the only interesting one the "final boss"

-There is some repetition in the game, I remember how the first time I finished a mission and I wondered what other challenges the game held for me only to find out that I would be doing similar missions with only a small variation of enemy type about 20 more times

-Some of the gun balancing may need tweaking for I pretty much blasted trough the game with a silenced sniper, a rpg, and a random third option normally a shotgun but most of the other guns either fall in to not consistent and or enough damage, or not enough range to be useful in a fight

-The AI may need some work as well because I can be sneaking around and my ally would start running to go shoot an enemy 100 meters away (and yes the hunter ally)

But overall I had some fun and these were just my opinions from my time in the game

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game would deserve 10 stars if it would allow the player to skip the story scenes. The game dynamics, the visuals are one of the best you can see today. Sending your furry friend Boomer taking down the bad dudes is a great fun and the coop-player mode is very much enjoyable. The coop mode succeeds in an area where many other games with coop mode fail, the game dynamics promotes the cooperation.

When it comes to the story, it is awful. The main evil talks religious stuff, then he sings, talks more religious stuff and this goes on and on. After few minutes, you just want this to be over and be able to go and play. After you bought the game, you literally watching 15 minutes of story before able to fire your first shot. 15 minutes that could be squeezed in 2, and no skip button!
Before you can play in coop mode, you need to climb a tall tower, maybe fall few times and die. A good game intro should teach you the game dynamics. I can't believe that the best they can come up with is to show that falling from great heights is bad for your health.

I want to love this game all the way to ten, but I can't. I experienced too many eye rolling moments whilst playing to allow myself to do so.

I'll start positive, it's beautiful. Mechanics are great, I always use the bow in these games, so that’s always fun.

I wish I had a PC to see it at max quality, but never the less it's gorgeous. I LOVE running around (I rarely drive in the far cry games) getting lost, finding random scenes and moments in the woods, it's amazing. Big fan of games that involve a lot of exploring and collecting so I’m very happy with this game for that. Also has an added awesome bonus that I’m running around with a bear and cougar by my side, feeling like a f**king warg.

It is also funny, as expected, I do end up skipping a lot of dialogue as people tend to go on a bit, but the character’s responses to you rushing them, always provides a little giggle.

There are also all the little moments, or hidden areas you run into along the way. A favourite scene was the haunted house, especially with the creepy dude looking at you and then walking away, I’m hoping more comes out of that little bit. And of course, I’m looking forward to getting into the Bigfoot mystery.

However, I find myself getting so frustrated with this game. Just some bits that feel like a missed opportunity, almost, lazy. I'm reluctant to use that word as I can understand the work that goes into a game.

But for instance, when you meet the specialist Jess Black - she goes into gruesome detail about the guy you're hunting "The Cook" a sadistic cannibal, who starves people and feeds human meat to them etc etc etc, so I’m thinking "Oh cool, a mini boss", I’m picturing a tall, probably fat dude, with a dirty apron, covered in blood, with a huge knife or something.... NOPE, just a run of the mill s**t bad guy with a flamethrower who looks just like all the other crap AI, such a huge let down.

With the main villains, well, I like the idea of who they are and get the type of characters they're supposed to be, (the performances are awesome) - but I just don't care about them. Get bored of the dialogue, find myself skipping a lot of it, ‘cuz it just goes on and on and on. I thought this game would be a bit crazier and more interesting, but it just seems to fall short of what it could have been, but hey-ho, the BLAM BLAM BLAM side of it is great so there's that.

What bothered me the most though was the constant repetitive, inescapable - get drugged, get caught, escape, s**t narrative. It’s the most annoying and stupid thing. All it did was break me away from my enjoyment of the game, it's frustrating. I wouldn't mind if it happened out of nowhere once or twice, as a little surprise, but 9 times?! And to only go and do the same s**t 3 times for each boss? Again, it just felt a bit all to familiar, somewhat lazy and unnecessary. It's like some studio head was like "This is what people loved from 3! Let's just multiply that s**t!!"

This is my first ever review online for anything media based, but I just had to for this game as I really want to love it all the way to 10, but I just can't. There's not a lot about it that made me care. That being said, I brought it, I'm yet to finish it, and apparently, I have a disappointing ending ahead of me. However, I do have a WHOLE bunch of collecting to do, so I’m happy about that. They also give you the option to reset all of the out posts, so think I’ll do that too, make it a little more exciting.

I’ll most likely check out the DLC’s, but not before watching the trailers and seeing what some of the reviews are saying.
