Far Cry 4 is a good game that continues in the same spirit and style of its predecessor but is letdown by a few disappointing flaws. Far Cry 3 was one of the biggest surprises of the old gen as it delivered a fantastic and vast FPS experience against very competitive games within the genre but this outing struggles to deliver the same impact in quality and gameplay.

Firstly, the game looks absolutely fantastic. The visuals, draw distances and effects all look superb and mold the beautiful and thriving world of Kyrat on a grand scale. The island itself is massive but it often feels too cramped with narrow paths, tons of trees and elevated surfaces boxing you in on the ground - it's not as open as the island seen on Far Cry 3 and this may disappoint even die-hard fans. There is a greater focus on elevated gameplay here and scaling heights through climbing which can become a bit of a chore when reaching difficult areas. Despite the size of the map; everything feels more claustrophobic and the general layout of Kyrat and the map seems poorly put together.

In terms of the gameplay; this outing utilises the same infrastructure of Far Cry 3 which isn't a bad thing. The skills, crafting and general mechanics are all the same which is fantastic as the structure is familiar and works incredibly well. There are animals galore to hunt and avoid plus vehicles to move around easier once again. Guns are aplenty with full customisation options and there is plenty of loot to hunt.

Sadly, despite its familiar style and stunning backdrop; Far Cry 4 just lacks in a few key areas. The story is rather bland and boring, most of the characters are dreadful along with the acting plus the core gameplay just feels rather uninspiring. Everything on offer in this game may ooze Far Cry 3 but the overall execution is not quite up to par with that game and the above issues really hit home.

Overall, Far Cry 4 is a good game that follows in the footsteps of it's predecessor but fails to shine in some key aspects. Fans of the series will probably enjoy the experience but may be left a bit underwhelmed with some lackluster features.

I find it hard to believe that others name Far Cry 4 as "Far Cry 3.5", "Far Cry 3 Part 2" or what have you. I went back and played FC 3 after completing the campaign of FC 4 and I find a dismal similarity between the two. Sure, in both games when I run up to plants I hold down E to collect them more quickly and in both games I climb up radio towers in order to discover more of the land.I find it hard to believe that others name Far Cry 4 as "Far Cry 3.5", "Far Cry 3 Part 2" or what have you. Sure, in both games when I run up to plants I hold down E to collect them more quickly and in both games I climb up radio towers in order to discover more of the land.

Is there anything wrong with routine objectives remaining the same?

Especially when Far Cry 4 has significantly better mechanics than its predecessor. The map is no longer based on rectangular coordinates-- all newly discovered lands are less simply defined, which cleans up the choppy map of FC 3. Your camera, instead of displaying 9 obstructing squares in its interface, is now much more simple and intuitive. The skill paths for your character are more delineated and clear. There were many improvements between games that I feel went unnoticed by many other users. I urge you to go back and play FC 3, then comment on this game.

Also, and I know I'll get a lot of flak for this, the antagonist of Far Cry 4 is better than that of Far Cry 3.
Vaas has nothing on Pagan Min.

The one shortcoming of Far Cry 4 is its disparity of Min. After the opening scene, I told myself, 'Eh, I'll play until Pagan's next short-- then I'll go to bed.' I played until 2, 3, then 4 AM rolled by and still he hadn't returned. I finally gave way to sleep only to play for several more hours until unlocking his next short. And "short" doesn't do it justice-- I wanted much, much more out of his cutscene. He is far and away the most interesting character of this game and his snippits of dialogue are simply not enough.

Still, the choices offered throughout the game and the supplemental characters made me feel as though I actually determined the future of Kyrat. As much as I enjoyed this game, if the franchise is to succeed in the future, the role of the antagonist must be centralized. Who can argue that Vaas had you fearfully excited to continue on in the plot of Far Cry 3, and that you had trouble deciding what to do with Min in the final moments of Far Cry 4? This is the only thing that the sequel failed to improve upon; the presence of the antagonist. I enjoyed Min much more than Vaas, he just lacked the presence that Vaas had.

In all, Far Cry 4 is a fantastic game that greatly improved upon its predecessor and had me eager to continue playing, though I wish Pagan Min had more airtime.

Loving the game so far, been playing for 13h and nowhere close to finishing the campaign missions.
So much more activities to do and really enjoying the smarter and more interactive AI which I thought I'd find annoying.

Far Cry 4 is a open world, shooter game. My son wanted to preorder this in Gamestop for 70€ and says its worth it. At first when watching campaign trailers it looks bloody. The game is beautiful and I'm an adult saying this. It contains violence but I think if my 13 year old is not scared by it it should fine. It's a great game and nothing to be too daunted about.

Far Cry 4 offers more of the same liberating fun and a beautiful new landscape in which to have it. The Himalayan setting is gorgeous on the PS4, it is unfortunate however that it's filled with flat characters and mediocre story, and the sense of progression you feel as the protagonist goes from hapless tourist to resourceful warrior is absent this time around.

Series mainstays and features from the previous installment are still found here. There is a huge open world teeming with wildlife, things to do and collect, and lots and lots of dudes to shoot, stab or go Rambo on. The world seems to have gotten a bit bigger this time around, but not noticeably so. There are a few more weapons to experiment with (I think the game cites around 80 between the sidearms, mains, and specialties), but your go-to will probably still be the recurve bow if that was what it was during 3, because it's still beastly. Ubisoft likes to put ridiculous amounts of collectibles in their games, and that is no where more apparent than here, and it's probably where the game will get most of its gameplay time for completionists. I'd 40-50 hours could be spent diligently picking up all that Ubi has hidden, though the rewards for doing so is unimpressive.

I know a lot of people, including myself, found the protagonist of FC3 irritating but that narrative strong. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how much you hated Brody), both of these aspects have changed. The main character is no longer a whiny rich kid from California, but he no longer has much of a personality either. Ajay is definitely more of a cipher or blank slate. The actual story is pretty dull - occasionally delving into moral ambiguities, but told in a very plodding and flat manner. There is some attempt at more unique story beats and missions, including a few trips to Shangraila, but the gameplay design causes these bits to suffer. Though, some of the more memorable missions of FC3 have been unapologetically copy/pasted in FC4.

How much you enjoy Far Cry 4 will depend on how much you enjoyed Far Cry 3 - 4 is unlikely to win you over if you've not been a fan of the series thus far - and if you subscribe to the collect-a-thon value proposition the game has to offer. There is no denying that Far Cry 4 has a huge amount of content to offer and explore and, as a fan of FC3, I can't not recommend it.

It definitely takes some getting use to, but when you do get the hang of things you just feel very engaged in the atmosphere. Far Cry 4's main antagonist, Pagan Min, is one of my favorite in video games history. Think Handsome Jack from Borderlands, only add an even greater metrosexual flare. Min is incredibly sarcastic, yet can snap at the blink of an eye revealing his darker, deadlier side. There are a many, many, many things to do in Kyrat, from rescuing hostages to destroying enemy propaganda, to spending hours hunting down animals to upgrade your equipment. It's almost overwhelming at first, and will easily distract you from the main story line, giving the game even greater longevity. I haven't been so enthralled and excited for a fps title since Call of Duty Black Ops first hit the market, and I can easily say that I have fully jumped on the Far Cry band wagon for iterations to come. This one is a MUST have for the 2014 holiday season. Expand

I bought this game to show support for a sequel to the amazing Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and I'm a little bit pissed that that game isn't happening but the more I played of Far Cry 4 the more I liked (specifically the inclusion of the A.J.M. 9 auto-pistol (essentially the Auto-9 from Robocop) from Blood Dragon. Maybe it's because I never played the original Far Cry 3 and I was expecting just another unpolished game from Ubisoft but colour me impressed. I can't comment much on the story as I'm only about 1/4 through the story and, while I deem story to be pretty important with AAA titles, I'm just glad we didn't get another snooze-fest like Watch Dogs. I have yet to actually play it online because I tend to get disconnected at home with my wi-fi from time to time.

Predators can be spawned at will by throwing a piece of meat wherever; rediculous. Rare animals like Rhinos and Blackbears are everywhere to be found.
The great potential of a game like this lies in the action which sadly is too easy. All outposts can be conquered in less than half a minute easily. And the "Great" fortresses are just a little bit more difficult. The game reinforces sexism, if that sound interesting to anyone, by putting all morally wrong optional choises with the female antagonist and the emotionally correct choices with the male one. Personally I'm not sure if I care but I do not like feeling manipulated.
Now it's not all bad. The action can be fun from time to time. But having experienced Far Cry 3 this feels like a bad ripoff where the creators have just cramed in as much stuff as they could to make it seem cool. And it probably does to 15 year olds. Maybe this game isn't made for me? In which case I say fine. I didn't pay anything for it anyway, thank god. Honestly, it's a piece of crap. Because of all the lost potential. Read a book instead.

To be clear this is Farcry 3 with a shiny skin. The reason I cant go any higher is due to cheap element used in programming this game. You take over a base no Army travels to come take it back ,,no, they pop up out of the dirt next to the camp and you go again, the bird just spawns out of the sky and attacks you, tiger just keeps spawning same spot over and over, IN FACT, everything that attack you just keeps popping out of the ground nearby and it obvious... Like a tower defense that wears you down.

This make killing something seem useless since they just regenerate instantly. This is easy programming, make the game longer, but it makes the game suck, frustrating and cheap feeling.

No new AI or animations, FARCRY 3 engine used here. Cheap gimmicks are what UBISOFT is now.

The character upgrading system stands well against it's predecessor, with some new tweaks here and there to make it still feel fresh while remaining familiar to any who have played the previous instillation. The area's where this game fell short in are the narrative's and the gun play. The voice acting in this game is average at best. Listening to the chatter and looking at the beautiful graphics and landscape left me very disconnected. Being in the world was great, but being a part of it was sometimes very dull. The character models were very awkward as well. The shooter physics are what really lost me while playing this game. At no point did I feel comfortable while engaging in firefights. If it was a difficulty issue, it would have been a different story. The aiming wasn't difficult, it just wasn't satisfying in the least bit and anything I wanted to do, rarely ever worked as planned. Definitely one of the better games of this year. Did not disappoint, stunning scenes, action packed, and fun, fun, fun. I recommend that you buy this game. I just wish that there was more emphasis on villains.
