Felt really familiar, while the new setting was a nice change of pace to the more tropical settings in the past it lacked the freshness you'd expect from a sequel. It felt like more of the same but slightly improved in every aspect but the story which took the backseat this time around. Hard to recommend to anyone looking for a deeper experience than the last game. 7/10

The only downside is that the story line is weaker than an arthritic 90 year old's wrists. No real explanation of why the main character being seemingly just a normal dude at the start can basically morph into the SAS or Navy SEALs and is able to take down an entire army and a psychotic dictator all by himself. also there is no real detail about Kyrat or its history.

But hey, its Far Cry, you don't play it for its story line! Overall this is just classic fun and entertaining, tiger hunting, elephant riding, hang gliding Far Cry fun. 7/10.

Essentially Far Cry 3.5... I liked the game, and enjoyed playing it, but typical far cry fare...

The Narrative paled in comparison to 3, which was quite compelling, the story in 4 was lacking in comparison...

Graphics were nice, gameplay worked no complaints... Huge map to run around and shoot things, a bit of a one trick pony, but thats far cry...

The game play is good and the graphics are nice.......but that's about it.

The first few hours pass quite happily as you strive to get better guns and equipment whilst liberating outposts and bell towers. However, the happiness is short lived and soon enough repetition sets in. The story line is one of the poorest I have ever know. It is abysmal to the point that you really do not care

It is abysmal to the point that you really do not care about a single character in the game, or the outcome.

It feels as if Ubisoft have spent all their time and effort creating a beautiful Himalayan game world then just filled it with a poor story, lots of repetitive, out of context, uninteresting quests which most people will never bother to complete unless they are incredibly bored.

Side missions from outposts get repetitive, and AI is mediocre, but Far Cry 4 is a good game. Excellent combat, a nice selection of guns and memorable characters. Driving is bad, but main missions are entertaining and diverse. Shangri-la side content is excellent.

Far Cry 4 doesn't fall far from Far cry 3. Not much innovation here besides the co-op system and a new setting. The graphics are very good, and the story is decent. Overall not a bad game to play if you're bored.

VERY similar to 3... yet it can't quite capture the magic. It does make an excellent stride in the graphics department, yet fails to match 3's story and missions.

I took my time getting this game because I knew it was basically just Far Cry 3: Nepal Edition, since Ubisoft loves to just rip off of themselves every single year. There isn't much I can say about the game that wouldn't just be talking about Far Cry 3.

The game is centered around Ajay Ghale, who travels to Kyrat to scatter his mother's ashes. On the way he becomes involved with a resistance movement against the "king" of Kyrat, Pagan Min, who is just Vaas 2.0, basically, except he doesn't drop out of the game halfway through and isn't replace by a significantly worse villain which the game pulls out of its ass. I do like Pagan Min more, though. Vaas was undeniably the highlight of Far Cry 3, what with being on the box art and being on all the promotional material; he might as well have been the protagonist. However, I like Pagan Min more because Vaas is more two-dimensional than Min. Charismatic, sure, but kind of two-dimensional. Pagan Min manages to be both Handsome Jack levels of charismatic as well as being sympathetic (in a psychotic sort of way) and motivated, and I won't delve into spoilers, but he actually does have the best interest of the player character in mind. He's just a bit... quirky... I guess. Sure, let's go with that.

The same praise cannot be afforded to the actual player character, Ajay. While Jason Brody in Far Cry 3 had an incredibly strong character arc, developing as a character as he goes along his journey with proper motivation, Ajay just kind of does whatever he's told. He has no personal investment in the civil war in Kyrat like Jason did against the warlords of Rook Island. Jason had a clear goal, which carried him through the entire story. He wasn't as involved personally in the affairs of the island. His main goal is to rescue his friends, not save the island. Meanwhile, Ajay bumbles his way into this civil war for basically no reason. His goal of scattering his mother's ashes doesn't take him as far as the developers forced it to, and they tried to imprint personal commitment into the player, and it falls horribly flat when most things happen for no reason and the player character isn't nearly as good as in the previous game.

However, the story itself isn't terrible. The main crux of the story is the moral choices between either Amita or Sabal, the two leaders of the Golden Path, the resistance movement going up against Pagan Min and his warlords. Sabal is conservative and sticks to traditional values like religion and culture, while Amita wants to secure Kyrat's place in the world, having a more economic view of things, seeing such things as religion unhelpful for Kyrat's future. The dichotomy between the two characters is a legitimate dilemma and I spent some serious time thinking about my choices and what the effects would be, weighing out the pros and cons of each. Both have their pros, but there are also some serious drawbacks, and it does require some thought to feel like you're making the right decision. In the end, however, all you do is choose who you wish to be in power and get a pretty terrible cutscene illustrating the worst of either, making you feel pretty bad about all your choices unless you immediately go around and shoot either in the back of the head, spoiler alert. Even Pagan Min goes "don't look at me, I don't have much going on, either" when you finally confront him. It ends anti-climactically either way you look at it, which is disappointing.

Now for what I hate about it.

Animals, for one. The animals in Far Cry 4 are specifically programmed to f*** everything up for you. You'll be scouting a base and are about to set your master plan in motion when f***ing wolves will spawn behind you and bite you, forcing you to pull out a shotgun and blast them to alert everyone in the outpost. The animals in this game are f***ing a**holes and never, EVER just leave you alone. It's to the point where it almost ruins the entire game, it's THAT bad.

Additionally Ubisoft must've thought they hit a gold mine with Far Cry 3, because Far Cry 4 might as well be called LSD the game. There are like 50 drug trips in the entire thing, with stupid dream sequences that are there for no reason other than it was a little unique in Far Cry 3, and Ubisoft treats uniqueness like the plague, wanting to stamp it out of everything they make until it's broken so hard you can put hay in its mouth and call it a race horse. These stupid drug trips are present in what seems like every three missions, and there are now two retard characters dedicated to them. It just feels so stupid when I go "oh, look, ANOTHER drug trip, that makes, what, 20 now?" It's so lame and it's done to death within a single game.

Overall, it's basically just Far Cry 3.5, and is the first sign that Ubisoft plans to run this series to the ground since they dropped their precious Assassin's Creed for a year.

It feels like a reskin of Far Cry 3 with a very thin story. The game has a lot taken from the series before it and those things help give the game a score of 7 but it falls on it's face in so many other things.

    - The scenery looks nice but only certain ledges are scalable with a hook mechanic - Weapon shops seem very limited, needing to play for over a day just to unlock the next level

    - The scenery looks nice but only certain ledges are scalable with a hook mechanic
    - Weapon shops seem very limited, needing to play for over a day just to unlock the next level of a gun seems pretty excessive, especially when there are so many guys available and I will most likely never try
    - Crafting feels tacked on and unable to have weapon slots until you run around the map looking for animals seems like an odd time waster as it could of been used in other methods like boosting skills, perks etc
    - Skills are pretty weak compared to far cry 3, you only get two skill trees with 6 rows and 4 columns in each (24 in each tree) and both of them are not very good. You need to do a lot of quests to unlock the second half of the skill rows too. In far cry 3 at the end of the game you felt like a god jumping on multiple people, throwing knives, sneaking around really close without being noticed but this game you feel so limited.

Overall the game is not bad it just doesn't seem like a full package when put beside it's predecessors, it will entertain you but you will have a lot more fun with it if you forget the story and become your own character.

I am not a fan of the run to point A, kill things, run to point B, kill things formula. I wanted to chase down the tyrant king and really get involved in the war going on but instead the game has you doing petty soldiering tasks. I mean your supposed to be some hero! Let's do hero things!

Grant it, I think the game is gorgeous and the map was interesting to explore for a little while. I can really see the AAA power under the hood working its magic. If there was a more involved plot and/or narrative I would really enjoy taking a break and doing the side quests every once in a while. But when the entire game is side quests it just seems like an expansion to something else. I wasn't even able to finish the game because it just couldn't hold my attention. I would spend my money on something else.

Disclaimer: I would like to give this a 7.5 but the cons force me to round down rather than up.

Far Cry 4 is a fun romp through a well designed, well detailed atmosphere. Neither of these are foreign concepts to Ubisoft, as they've consistently designed amazing locales for both the Assassin's Creed and Far Cry series. Graphically, it looks great and the gameplay is the typical, somewhat twitchy, first person controls that Ubisoft still hasn't really nailed down as well as other studios. I absolutely love the music in the game as it genuinely compliments the locale and really helps immerse the player into the game.

Unfortunately, that's where my praise ends. Far Cry 4 suffers from the typical Ubisoft sandbox problem of cramming an insane amount of fluff in between a very weak, short, main story arc. If someone simply focuses on the story missions and the character named side missions themselves, the game could probably be completed in 10 hours or less. The rest of the time spent will be looking around a limited amount of side activities, almost all involving going to a point and killing enemies or defending a point or by racing, and (literally) hundreds of collectibles. Collectible hunting wouldn't be bad if they continually added to character growth but after a certain point they no longer matter. Trophies/Achievements generally require half (or less) of each collectible type to unlock and the "Karma rating" is easy to peak at max level before even reaching the northern areas of Kyrat. The player will earn more than enough XP to unlock every single skill long before collecting all of the hundreds of items so, outside of sitting in a menu reading a few context blurbs, there's little incentive to bother collecting EVERYTHING.

Ubisoft also needs to invest in writers who are capable of character development. Ajay Ghalle is a bland protagonist with whom I feel no connection or investment, much like Aiden Pierce of Ubisoft's Watch_Dogs title from earlier in 2014. Also like Watch_Dogs, the secondary characters are cliched and unremarkable. I feel no compelling reason to care about the Golden Path and their "leaders" do not help their case at all. The most charismatic and humanized characters are the so called villains - Pagan Min and Noore most specifically. While playing, I couldn't help but feel the game would have been so much better if it presented you with a path at the beginning where you could work with Pagan Min, Ghalle legacy be damned. This would have offered much more replay value and could have effectively turned FC4 into two distinct experiences - one as the returning rebel champion (the current game) and one where Ajay turns his fame into despotic power.

Then there's the stretching of the imagination. For a country embroiled in civil war for at least two decades and extremely remote (the area is basically supposed to be on the borders of Nepal, China, and India), I find it odd that many NPCs you run into will be up to date on technology and social media trends. Radio Free Kyrat's office is a falling down shack with a whole lot of technology in it and its DJ, the annoying Rabi Ray Rana, is constantly referencing "first world problems" as if Kyrat were a Mexican border town stealing U.S. Wifi while dealing with the Cartel. Given the remote tribal areas (look up Sikkim on Wikipedia for a sense of where this game takes place), these references make zero sense.

All that said, I still give the game a 7.5 overall because it's fun to play and the locale is so intriguing. Multiplayer is hit or miss and coop is particularly fun, except for the fact that Hurk is annoying as hell. Even though it's pointless to collect everything, it's fun to collect enough to learn a decent amount of Kyrati history. Being sent into other places like Shangri-La and The Himalayas adds another layer of depth to the game that makes it stand out. In fairness, the Shangri-La sections were, quite possibly, my favorite moments the game had to offer. Frankly, if you look at my review tendencies, you'll find that a 7.5 is actually fairly favorable, overall.

But it does get repetitive, and fast. Ultimately, that repetitiveness, plus the very weak story, the continued twitchy driving controls, and the idiotic "lets throw 1000 pounds of armor on heavy mobs to make them 'harder'" Ubisoft mentality make me drop the game down a few notches. It's still very much worth playing, perhaps when the game goes on sale or perhaps as a rental.

I do think that there is some limitations in terms of what you can put on the previous generation, and keep in balance with the current generation, but if you own a PS4, I'd recommend this.

The story is excessively short and the characters (especially Pagan Min) aren't memorable. Unlike Vaas who was completely crazy and went after you countless times, this guy doesn't really want to find you, let alone waste you, and therefore you spend most of the game hearing him talk over a phone (think Handsome Jack style from Borderlands 2, but less awesome)

Still, any fan of the Far Cry series will enjoy the game, mostly for the good ol' Far Cry mechanics, the beautiful open world and the fun, although short, missions.

Although graphically amazing, Far Cry 4 is a Far Cry from part 3. The campaign feels extremely confusing and they don't make use of the main Villain like they should have. The Multiplayer is so painful. It's a trainwreck! Bows and Arrows vs AK47's. Ubisoft needs to stick to what they are good at. Trust me, Multiplayer they are NOT!

I don't get the praise of this game. It is typical derivative Ubisoft drivel. It is better than Assassin's Creed, but that game is annoying and even more derivative. Far Cry 4 is a relatively fun game with good graphics but it is so repetitive within the game and compared to Far Cry 3. Ubisoft just ruins games with their game formulas and uncanny number of stupid collectibles in game.

For one, key mapping is ludicrous especially if you are like me, left handed. Something that has been done for years which is to assign keys wherever you feel comfortable has seems to have stumped Ubisoft. If you map forward and fire to the mouse, the key you map to go backwards decides to quit. Then it assigns itself to the LMB with the Fire function, great I guess if you like to shoot and retreat in one go but useless any other time. Grappling and rope climbing is impossible unless you assign forward to the keyboard instead of the mouse...I mean c'mon...seriously? All this time, money and testing and you can't climb a rope...someone in QA should be shown the door. And on a hardware note, if you're lucky enough to be an AMD fanboy with a Crossfire setup you are SOL. As of writing this, CF is not supported and if you try to force CF into the game you're greeted with flicker hell...honestly I would have happily waited for another month or two for Ubisoft to get it 100% right because as of right now, my left hand oriented, Crossfire equipped gaming rig will not be enjoying FC4 until someone fixes the issues. What were going to be extra minutes of the game- the side missions are so annoying that they interfere with the main game itself. When you complete a takeover or save villagers, the game repeatedly tells you to go back EACH time another attack happens on the place you just visited! And it's not like you can ignore these annoyances, you CANT ignore them, and you CANT RESUME YOUR CAMAPAIGN UNTIL YOU FINISH WHAT YOU ARE TOLD! I was not expecting this from a triple-A title, and especially from all the hype about this. This game is what happend to Destiny and Bungie because it was rushed, it just splashes all over the place. But it's not all that bad, as you can invite friends who don't have the game to play with you, but only on Playstation! This game is fun, actually but the Multiplayer mode that they added is unesscary! Because no one plays it! People can create maps for other players to visit but it's a total stupid idea because what we want is exploration! Not some map with a few guns, I thought we had CoD for that! And that's scary because a game that's made on the open world itself, it attracts players because of that too! But Ubisoft wants you to not explore which was super frustrating! That aside, the game is fun because the open world is large and there is plenty to do if the game gives you something good to do aside from the horrible side missions. But this is a pricy one because, it's just a game that's good because of the open world, everything else including Ajay and Pagan- nobody cares it's not even a good story either. FarCry 4 is a highly ambitious game that was so high on the hype level that everything was about to explode but it fails hard. If you can get past that it's a game worth experiencing with your FRIENDS! If not, it's better left off of your play list. Expand

It uses a lot from Far Cry 3 which came out only 2 years ago, and when it did come out it was one of the best looking open world games at the time. I'd like to see you create an entirely new engine with brand new textures that can top Far Cry 3 in only 2 years... oh what's that? You can't? Ohhhh no way.... neither can they. Anyways I'm not happy with the quick time events. Or button prompts whatever they're called.

In Far Cry 3 when you were on fire you'd take serious damage, you needed to hold triangle (or Y) to put it out. However you couldn't put it out unless the game allowed you to. You would have to wait for the prompt to come up, so you'd sit there taking damage or maybe you freak out and hold the button which causes you to heal yourself but it stops when finally the prompt shows up. That problem is 2 years old and it's still here.... why? Why do I NEED that prompt? Why do I need a prompt just to use my wingsuit? Oh yeah, you know what I'm talking about. How many times have you jumped off a cliff and died despite the fact that you vigorously hammered the wingsuit button? This happens with Takedowns as well, those prompts aren't reliable.

Imagine if Fallout 3 or NV made it so you could only bring up V.A.T.S. when the game prompts you to. Or a Sonic game that only allows you to curl up and spin when the game tells you to. Or how about Starfox 64 made the BARREL ROLL only possible when Peppy says to? It would be horrible. Why can't I have complete control of my character? During the Shangri La missions you'll come across the invincible enemies that can only be killed via backstab takedown but there's a 50.50 chance you'll get the bad animation. Where you stab him in the neck and he shrugs you off, knocking you down and you have to sit there and wait for the animation to finish with the Tiger tackling him down and biting his neck off. This animation takes so long, if there's any enemies near by they'll demolish you while you're completely stuck in this animation. You can't do anything until it's over but enemies can still kill you. This goes with normal takedowns too. I'm not saying to make us invincible during the animation but at least reduce the damage or something because there's no point in doing chain takedowns when the enemy can just constantly beat you or shoot you to death.

Finally, don't change anything if you aren't going to... change anything. The game adds quite a decisions for the story, which seems awesome but they do NOTHING. Spoilers people! Your choices don't change anything! Only thing it changes is who gives you missions. How about when you... I'll try to do this without spoilers... when you choose between earning money or the Golden Path or getting rid of bad things, if you choose to earn the money your Golden Path rebels will have better weapons and really strong vehicles with mounted machine guns on them. You would see a change, it would change something and give your choices weight. But if you chose that, even though your crew is decked out with awesome gear now, crime rate in Kyrat goes up and the people aren't happy. Or maybe if you make wrong choices the people grow angry with the Golden Path and many sign up to be Royal Army soldiers. So there would be more enemies... something that actually changes your game.

Aside from all that, this game is fun. It has a lot of the same issues Far Cry 3 had but there are improvements over the previous game. I love Min, the character is awesome. He feels so welcoming and nice but you know deep down he's a god awful person. Vas was cool and all but he was just a classic bad guy "I'm bad because I'm just... bad" with Min you see why he's doing certain things. Drugs provide a lot of money, and the Mines are all dry of resources. Religion seems pretty bad there because they treat women horribly and slaughter innocent goats for the gods which... I do not support. I actually see a character rather than just a villain. Also! Oh god I hated Jason. I hated playing as that stupid dude-bro who we all know would never last in the wild for 5 minutes. You know dude-bros right? They need their hair gel, Axe body spray, protein drinks, dubstep and Lil Wayne music. There's no way they could survive in the wild. Ajay is a much better character. And I like how Ubisoft didn't go overboard with the middle eastern stuff, they kept it respectable instead of making them look like savage evil people... you know... like Fox News does OH sick burn.

Alright well that about sums it up. I still say this game is fun and it's awesome but... in the future try and improve more on aspects of open world RPG.

P.S. Grappling-hook is awesome! Keep it in future titles please :)

However, the shooting mechanics are the same as in Far Cry 3 (this could be a good or bad thing). The shooting and aiming down the sights feel more arcady than simulation and don't feel as fine tuned as other shooters. Still, the game holds up well, but sometimes it feels like there is too much to do in the massive country of Kyrat. The country itself feels alive, animals everywhere, people driving by, different towns, but some parts of the map get dull because most of the world looks the same. But the game is gorgeous. The side quests are generic and boring. The side missions or whatever you want to call them are boring besides the special hunting missions. Capturing radio towers and outposts is exactly the same as it was in Far Cry 3. They have added fortresses which are just giant outposts (nothing new). The arena is interesting for about 5 rounds until you realize there is no reason to continue playing it (unless you want to set high scores). My favorite thing about the game was the Shangri La missions which were a real surprise (won't spoil anything here).

I enjoyed exploring the environments and looking for collectibles with the helicopter. I feel like the animal encounters were a little ridiculous at times. For example, on multiple occasions I have been attacked by an eagle while trying to stealthy take a outpost causing the enemy to spot me as I tried to fight off the little bastard. The random events are a nice feature but once you hit the highest karma level there is no point to doing them. I feel like the weapons are the same exact weapons as Far Cry 3.

So in general this game is more of the same as Far Cry 3. However, I don't think the story is even close to the quality of 3 and there is little innovation in this sequel. They played it safe which is not necessarily a bad thing but I had hard time enjoying this game because I felt like I was playing a worse version of Far Cry 3 all over again.

The character upgrading system stands well against it's predecessor, with some new tweaks here and there to make it still feel fresh while remaining familiar to any who have played the previous instillation. The area's where this game fell short in are the narrative's and the gun play. The voice acting in this game is average at best. Listening to the chatter and looking at the beautiful graphics and landscape left me very disconnected. Being in the world was great, but being a part of it was sometimes very dull. The character models were very awkward as well. The shooter physics are what really lost me while playing this game. At no point did I feel comfortable while engaging in firefights. If it was a difficulty issue, it would have been a different story. The aiming wasn't difficult, it just wasn't satisfying in the least bit and anything I wanted to do, rarely ever worked as planned. Shame none of these felt present in the game after a few years of waiting. The only reason I finished the game was to get to the end. Come to think of it now, Far Cry 4 is like a massive baked potato; it's the same as Baked Potato 3, it sometimes has a bit of butter and cheese, maybe some baked beans if you're lucky, but overall it's still just potato all the way through without much else to it.

The story was like JD and coke you leave out for a couple of days as well; weak and flat. The Amita/Sabal choices always annoyed me because of how indistinct both their ideologies were. Here's an idea guys, instead of asking me all the time to choose, put it down to a vote of the people who are actually going to being living in Kyrat after you throw Pagen over, because I honestly do not give a toss about you once I've scattered my mums ashes.

In the end it's just a pretty good game even though it suffers from the classic Ubisoft styled open world formula.

    Final Rating : "Good" ~ 7/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Far Cry 4 is a good game, but not really any different to FC3. As has been said before it's more like FC3.5. The graphics are the same, gameplay the same, which is not a bad thing, but there is nothing really new in this to report. They have tweaked a few things like the watch towers so they are not a pain the butt, but apart from that, it's nothing exciting.
But TBH, the worst thing I found out about this game is the story. They have obviously put a lot of effort into the story, but no matter what paths you choose to follow, you feel like a jerk. Whether it be follow the religious nutter or the drug dealer, when you choose which mission to do, both make you feel like, Actually no, I don't want any. Small hint, look for the third alternative ending, as the main 2 suck.
The multiplayer suffers from the same problems as a lot of games that have fan built maps. It's inundated with children building stupid maps where you get infinite ammo, invulnerability and then have a mission to kill 50 blokes who are stuck in a room. 1 rocket launcher and it's done. why?? It's not fun or challenging. and this was one of the highest rated user maps!! Needs some kind of quality control. Even the official Multiplayer maps have serious problems like huge maps but only 10 players, one side who are invisible with explosive arrows. Just sit and wait for someone to turn up, pop up, shoot, dead...que a half mile run back into the action as they spawn you so far away from the main areas you spend most of the time just running. Not exactly exciting play.
Overall a good core game from a playability POV which is the most important part, but a few things you look at and go..."why did you do this??"

This was actually my first Far Cry and this is what I think. The direction, open-world sandbox and combat was a lot of fun, including a stealth or an all-guns-blazing approach to any situation.

Most of the characters in the game were lacklustre and boring in my opinion, except for Pagan Min. Even though he's the bad guy, I couldn't help but like him. A lot of the story felt like fillers

A lot of the story felt like fillers but there were great moments and twists, which surprised me well. The side quests however, started feeling like a chore very quickly.

I got this game at a killer price and ultimately thought that it was worth the price given the large swath of content in it. Unfortunately, the lack of an endgame makes a lot of the content feel irrelevant after a certain point, which killed this games momentum. That being said, I enjoyed the gameplay and wingsuit gliding all the way through. 7/10. Definitely worth a try.

Surprisingly I found the story of Far Cry 4 even more shallow than Far Cry 3. The so called 'choices' you are forced to make feel extremely forced and the plot itself feels more like another side quest than an actual story. The choice feels extremely unsatisfying Just to hear both sides of an argument and to actually get an idea of what the hell you're meant to be choosing between you have to accept one character's just to hear the plan so to then cancel out and then accept another characters idea jsut to hear their pan only to cancel out and go back to the first plan is really poorly done, and the fact you have to accept a plan before hearing it even thought you can back out is pretty bad design..

The characters are very two-dimentional especially the main character you play, which massively goes against the character you played in Far Cry 3. The boss f the game feels far less fleshed out and less intimidating that the one in far cry 3. In fact you barely see or interact with him at all. Sometimes he'll just call you for a chat, but it's always randomly when you're in the middle of a side quest or distracted by doing something unrelated so I could barely pay attention to it.

Some of the side quests are pathetic, such as 'fashion week' that almost seems self aware at how stupid it is. I found the shangri-la side quests far more original and beautiful than the main story and just kinda of wish it was made into a more fleshed out DLC like Blood Dragon was.

The environment is beautiful and there's lots of items to collect, and lots of quests, though they are repetitious, and honestly I didn't enjoy doing a single quest, or mission in this game. But did have a lot of fun just roaming around and hunting.

The xp and 'karma' systems adds very little to game. It really doesn't seem to matter what you do in the game as long as you progress through the story and loot a lot for money.

Far Cry 4 continues to feel like a sandbox game with a story tacked-on for the sake of having one. Which is a shame, as it really isn't that hard to have characters you are actually interested in, or a story you actually can get involved in, it's just like they decided not to pay much for the mocap or voice acting so each character has such a limited screen time, and the story never seemed to be developed more than a few initial ideas scribbled on a cocktail napkin.

Fun game, poor story. Far Cry in a nutshell.

While it lasted it was entertaining but the developers could learn something from The Witcher 3. What I loved about the missions in that game are that just when you thought "ah I know what this is all about" it sent you off in a completely different and unexpected direction. On the other hand, while I enjoyed FC3, and currently going through FC4 and I'm about half done, I'm already getting bored from the repetitious missions. So I'm about to mow across the game if I can, because tower liberating and animal skinning and base raiding can get tedious after the 100th time. 7 is a good score.
But If Farcry5 is another graphics update, I won't be buying it. Good thing I bought this on a discount, because, personally I think, this game is worth no more than 30 dollars.

    2. Pagan Min. Good acting but too little screentime.

    3. Sayid from Lost is in this!!

    Cons:
    1. Poor writing in lore, journal, collectible entries. Feels like a middle school kid wrote it.

    2. Not enough of a motivation to clear the map, do side missions, activities, etc. Wildlands had a strong plot cos I really wanted to bring down the drug cartel and the missions/activities in Wildlands felt grounded in reality. FC4 felt too artificial, with stuff like Karma Events, convoys, animal hunts, fashion hunts, that felt contrived and not a natural part of the setting. After 10hrs, I lost interest and motivation to continue. I frequently asked myself, why am I doing all these stuff again??

    3. Gunplay lacks the weight and punch that are in games like Destiny, Wolfenstein, Doom, Titanfall. It felt very COD like which if you enjoy then this will be a plus for you. Gun sounds aren't impressive, and shooting feels light with minimal recoil or impact. Aim assist is too generous so I turned it off. Enemy detection is crazy annoying. Everyone will know where u are right away, and the game isn't built for stealth unlike Wildlands where u can go prone and take cover.

    4. Too many unnecessary collectibles and activities that are uninspired. Take down 150posters, find masks, find lost letters. The number at the end of each collectible fills me with dread cos it makes the game like an unending list of chores. Discovery of the world doesn't feel fluid and natural which leads to my next point.

    5. Bell towers. This mechanic MUST be abolished. No game should ever have this evil tedious mechanic in them. You need to climb 17 towers to unfog the map, and each time u climb a tower, the game SHOWS you locations to visit which all feel and look the same after my 8th tower. No sense of exploration and discovery. Just ubisoft handholding me every step of the way. Poor game design.

    6. Treasure boxes, "loot", economy, hunting of animals to upgrade wallet/ammo/etc. Gets old fast. Annoying to have these animals attack u, and they are definitely placed at towers instead of being peocedurally generated.

TLDR: FarCry4 isba supremely annoying and frustrating game to play with minimal story motivation but maximum list of chores to do.

This time around they do try and give the main NPC more personality, but the actual main character is never fully fleshed out, which left me confused and I stopped caring about the overall goal pretty early on.

Far cry 4 seemed to lack a lot of Far cry 3s charm and survival aspect. Hunting animals and picking flowers for boosts seemed more of a chore and something which just got in the way.

Far Cry 4 is a typical rushed Ubisoft product that should have been better. At least this is a sandbox game that is made to be finished. The problem is the quality of the sand.

This is my second review here on Metacritic. My first gave the game a score of 6 and lamented on the limitations of the gameplay and tacked on RPG system. Playing through the game, none of these problems disappear. Not only does this game hold back some fun weapons until the final missions, it hold back the best weapons until after the final mission. However, if you do strategically play the game (using a guide) and unlock the best gear immediately, the game loses much of it's challenge. I also want to make clear that in a country full of guns, cars, and helicopters, you shouldn't have to craft your own holsters out of wolf hides.

The cut scenes are clearly the worst content in the game. I hated every one of them and wanted to punch nearly every NPC in the face. I have no complaint against the voice acting except to note that some of them were using very British accents and others were trying for an authentic Indian accent to match the fictional locale. At the end of the game someone asks the protagonist if he is going to finish the mission that brought him to war torn Kyrat. He says "it doesn't matter anymore". Indeed, hardly any of it matter.

The missions themselves are always "go to X and kill Y". There is hardly anything spectacular arising out of the sandbox. Some of the later missions are simply broken. One mission has you chasing an airplane in a wingsuit. If you touch the plane you will die, but the mission doesn't end until after a lengthy animation that shows you succeeding. Then it's back to the loading screen to try again. That mission took me 6 tries and I was ready to smash my controller. The loading screen is the most sadistic enemy in the game, especially when the enemy throws snipers, mortars, helicopter, and armored solders at you.

The combat in the game is on the cusp of being best in class AAA material. You can run and gun, perform "takedowns", and drive vehicles. Hiding and sniping also works well as enemies no longer have X-ray binocular vision. The combat fails thanks to a few design decisions. Enemies will knock you back with their weapons if you try to perform a takedown while they are looking at you. They also do this if you unlock the ability to chain takedowns. Enemies will also never fail to shoot you no matter how fast you move, dodge, and weave. This is especially annoying if you are fighting against a sniper and see the laser beam perfectly track you. This leads to fighting using the two best stategies: 1) sniping from a distance with a silenced sniper rifle and 2) firing grenades down at enemies from a helicopter. Indeed, the second option unlocks when you are given a free grenade launcher during an escort mission. Find a helicopter, fly above a location, and rain down grenades until all enemies are dead. The games tries hard to push stealth as a viable gameplay option, but stealth is hardly ever a viable option. The bow, for example, is the worst weapon in the game and I never even bothered to use fire or explosive arrows. Typical run and gun gameplay devolves into constantly using health kits and then retreating behind a rock when you have run out. In a not shell, traditional combat in the game is not fun.

The game has a 7 out of 10, so something about the game is fun. Riding elephants and stomping enemies is fun. Some of the climbing puzzles are fun. Hang gliding or wingsuit gliding is fun. Explosives are fun. Grenade launchers are fun. Luring a tiger into an enemy outpost is fun. Running at unsuspecting enemies with your knife is fun. If you like all of this, then I heartily recommend Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. That game was brilliant. Perfect game, in my opinion, and easily completed in 7-9 hours.

In summary, Far Cry 4 is a game that does not live up to its potential. The last gen look of the game doesn't do it any favors. The lackluster efforts of developers is unfortunately a growing tread especially for Ubisoft. It's as if game publishers are tired of having to make good games all the time.

The story is just like Far Cry 3, except dumbed down and much less interesting and compelling. The gameplay is exactly the same, except for the world you're in. And the villain is just a plain Vaas wannabe. Don't buy this game, buy FC3, orFar Cry 4 has nice graphics,(only on PS4 and Xbox One) but that's all that Far Cry 4 has going for it. It's a very fun game, but it lacks of some variation on gameplay, missions and different environments on the map, although be huge it only have the same things to do.

Far Cry 4 is a lot of fun throught the game, but it kind of gets old and boring kind of fast. It has great weaponsto choose from, great huge open world environemnt, and many side mission to do. The protaginist is kind of a wimp and boring, but the main enemy maks up for it as he is just AWSOME!!(Played by Troy Baker). Far Cry 4 is a truly beautiful game. Whilst the gameplay is slightly underwhelming and the story lacking in the emotional department, the world is fully immersive and will leave you exploring for hours.

I feel like this one had a lot of hype off that great E3 demo. The game is really just the same as previous ones, but with a new protagonist and antagonist. Adding Troy Baker was a great idea, but they don't give him much. Also the same gameplay we've seen for a while now.

great fun, lots of fine details that you can do, get new weapon, get new things do several mission that are really great. The deal with the missions and the freedom to explore never gets old.

I don't usually play first person shooters, let alone finish them. Far Cry 4 holds the title of one of the only ones that i can say i played all the way through and enjoyed. While it does not hold up to Far Cry 3 (another FPS that i finished.)

I don't usually play first person shooters, let alone finish them. Far Cry 4 holds the title of one of the only ones that i can say i played all the way through and enjoyed. While it does not hold up to Far Cry 3 (another FPS that i finished.)

The game starts off with the same cutscene that we saw in the reveal trailer. Here, i could tell that the graphics weren't exactly going to be this game's strong point. You could easily tell this was cross-gen. So the actual game starts, and it feels just like a far cry game. The way you can see the character's feet on the pedals as they drive, the way you can turn your head around to look behind you while driving. It just feels so immersive.

The story is not too complicated. Something about a civil war between the dictator Pagan Min (voiced by troy Baker!) and the people of Kyrat. You play as Ajay Ghale who is the new martyr for the people, or something like that. The missions offer a nice variety, and are enough to keep you sticking around if you don't care for the story. My favorites include the arena mission, and some of the missions up in the Himalayas. There is a huge variety of guns to choose from, in which i enjoy a good, silenced, long range sniper rifle.

Outside the story is is a whole lot to do. Maybe a little too much. I enjoy taking out the enemy outposts. (Once again, long range, silenced sniper rifle.) There are also hunting challenges, crafting challenges, convoys, drug trips, arena survival games, and a whole lot more. After he story i only had about 19 percent of the game done, including a few side things.

A gripe of mine with the game is the characters. None of them are really interesting, including Ajay. Also, a good majority are really badly acted. Troy Baker is excellent as Min though. Oh, and concerning Pagan Min, he's not Vaas. I could really tell that they were trying to make a villain better and scarier, but in the end turned out like a copy. He was still entertaining though, although has a thin presence throughout the story.

Far Cry 4 is most likely the best First Person shooter on the next gen systems. I would highly recommend it, granted it's flaws. 7/10

UPDATED: The biggest problem is the boring world and side activities. The main quest is alright, and there are some interesting ideas going on. But, the main antagonist barely has any development, and the game feels too much like Far Cry 3.

Not a fan, basically 3 all over again but now with less appealing landscape and characters. This did not interest me at all. Hard to beat Vaas i guess

This game was seriously disappointing. After Far Cry 3, I expected this to be even better, but it wasn't. The story didn't move me like Far Cry 3, and while the graphics and gameplay are definitely improved, it was just so boring (Probably because it's completely recycled from Far Cry 3). Pagan Min is a terrible villain compared to Vaas, by the way.

Expand

After Far Cry 3, I was really excited for this game. But unfortunately Far Cry 4 is a minor step backwards and never quite matches it's predecessor in terms of story telling and it's environment. Even so, it's still an above average game that you will get some enjoyment from. Just don't pay full price for it and pick it up second hand.

This is a very fun if flawed game.

The main flaw is the story. I felt like it was a wasted opportunity. There was no character development and all of the interesting characters were never on screen. I never felt a sense of progression and there is a pointless subplot of who will take over after the end game that never goes anywhere. The gameplay is the real star though. I really

The gameplay is the real star though. I really liked the survival and gunplay aspect, taking out camps and doing the side missions was fun. The skill system adds a nice progression to the game. I will say the side quest get repetitive but they are overall still fun.

The open world is also a joy as well. Very well designed and it was fun to navigate. Graphics and sound was great too.

Besides the story, repetitive side missions and a few glitches its a good game, though it isn't a must play.

Basically newer Far Cry 3, but sligthly worse in pretty much every aspect. 6/10 game, but because of its similiarity to FC3, I bring down the rating by 1.
