I'm obviously the odd one out here, but I loved Fallout 76... as a single player game (important to note). Fantastic lore - perhaps the best of any Fallout game - and the sense of exploration and discover was amazing. The community was great too, but I can see it being annoying to constantly grind for crappy loot and legendaries, paying Fallout 1st monthly, and all the headaches that come with online play. If you're looking for a new Fallout single-player adventure, just pick up 76 and play it like a typical Fallout game. Lots of content to hold your attention. Expand

Game was a total mess on release and deserved the bad ratings, now I most say its one of the best games I played yet, good work they did but there you see again rushing releases never a good thing, bad rating keeps for all the life of the game, now user score of 2.8 for a game which is now for sure a solid 8 or 9.

I have never had a negative PVP experience, and very seldomly have actual encounters. Some of them are handy in boss fights, which is very cool. Expand

"Is the game fun?" asks the people. "No," says the man at IGN, "it is an unplayable nightmare". "Are the graphics good?" ask the people. "Are the graphics good?" ask the people. "No," says the man at GameSpot, "Red Dead Redemption 2 makes Fallout 76 look like Minecraft". "Are there changes or updates coming in the future?" the people ask. "No," says the man at Kotaku, "Bethesda just took the money and ran, they don't care about the people". From this, I chose the impossible. I chose to play Fallout 76 and see it for its real value.
Initially, I was hesitant to write this review. People who are somewhere between having played for two hours and never having played this game love to come here and just endlessly dress this game down. I felt that my genuine opinion, and my insatiable love for this game would just be drowned out, among the incessant waves of "why was this made", "Bethesda was just looking for a quick check", and "the graphics are bad". But I remembered a powerful lesson that I learned as a youth, that shaped me into the strong, God-fearing man I am today: A man chooses. A slave obeys. A man chooses to play this game, and see it for what it truly is, and to understand the deeper meaning behind it. A sheep is told to come here, slap a "0 out of 10" and whine about the controls and occasional glitches.
Yes, there are some minor flaws. A couple bugs here, some glitches there, but what games never had any flaws. Even Grand Theft Auto V, a game hailed as some kind of magnum opus, had a myriad of issues upon its initial release. But look past these minor issues, and all you will see is a modern masterpiece before you. People love to pound the pavement about the graphics. Red Dead 2, the game that most philistines love to compare Fallout 76 to, came out ten (10!) years after the original Red Dead. That is ten, long years all set aside for the RDR team to work on the new game and improve everything. Bethesda's Fallout team got to work on 76 the second Fallout 4 wrapped up. The release of 76 was just three (3!) short years after Fallout 4 released. I hardly see how that is a fair comparison.
I urge anyone who comes across this review to boot up 76 and look past your biases, and unwarranted hatred for this game, and revel in the wonderland that is Fallout 76.

With over 500 hours of game play, i can officially say that this game has a great story, and perfect mechanics. On release, everyone gave it hate, but it doesn't deserve that. Its fun, has very few bugs, frequent updates and the Wastelanders DLC. The Wastelanders DLC is a whole other thing on its own, but it definitely adds some spice to the game. 11/10.

I really love this game. it seems simplistic at first glance but there is so much detail added to the world and the gameplay, I have to commend the designers.

I can't comment on PVP, but I play solo and in a team with friends. I have noticed any griefers and the community is helpful and friendly.

I understand there was complaints about the amount of content before the free Wastelanders release, but I can't fault it now. As a previous WoW and Guild Wars player, plus many other solo games, I'm enthralled with Fallout 76

The base-building aspect of the game adds a very pleasan't thrill to the entire experience. Also the Vendor machine mechanism of selling in-game items to other players for in-game currency, is also a brilliant idea. As a busy person, I appreciate the Atom shop which allows (for the most part) cosmetic improvements to be purchased for real money. The range and number of these items are a pleasant surprise

    Definitely recommended

So let them play and be happy you enjoy something. I personally find much more appealing about a complex, systems heavy game like FO7 than a game where you feel like your just there to press a button on occasion, but many like the simple repetition. And no one is wrong about what they like.

Set a side at times bad framerate and stuttering, some graphical glitches and weird spawning of enemies, the game isn’t half bad at all!
I’ve been playing for a good couple of hours and can see myself staying in this world for many more.
I have yet to experience the game in a group, although I’ve encountered many other players in the world while exploring or visiting other players camp.
Every player I have encountered has helped me in some way(picking me up when downed, handing me some supplies etc)
It is basically fallout 4 in a new environment and encounters, with forced online and some survival aspects added. And as you can find a physical copy for about 10€, it is very much worth your while(and money).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY REVIEW PRIOR TO APRIL 14th 2020! This is due to the free "Wastelanders" update that came out on that day. this update included new factions, new weapons, a horde of new enemies, 40 new named locations (don't quote me on that, rough estimate), new quests, with a new main questline to boot, instances (so other players can't walk into the same interior, kill everything and leave), actual meaningful descisions, Fallout NV style dialogue, and most importantly, human NPC's. It's because of this that Wastelanders has made 76 a significantly different game than what it was at launch. i first played 76 about a week after it launched. i thought it was 'okay', nothing special. with in a week i reached level 15, and i stopped playing. when i heard that wastelanders was coming i started playing again at around early march with a new character. I had a better time, but that was due to that i somewhat knew what i was supposed to do this time. i played on and off for the next month, i actually stopped myself playing because i wanted to start off wastelanders as not too OP, and level 30 seemed like a nice compromise. I ended up deciding to star over anyway at launch sooo...

Upon release day, i was excited to see what this would bring, as i had tried my best to avoid spoilers. i started up the game when the fallout twitter account said it was live. I made a new character again, this time there was some dialogue from the Mr. Handy bots inside the vault, saying that they can't pretend its reclamation day any longer. i picked up the essential items and left the vault. When at the wayward, i was given the opportunity to help them by (It's early game story, so its technically a spoiler, but not a big one, skip to the next paragraph to avoid it) killing a gang of raiders, i made a compromise and let them live, but once i found some rare weapons. i went to the wayward and they were holding everyone hostage, so i bribed them with the legendary rifle and they tried to leave, but as they weren't hostages anymore, i shot the gang leader and the rest of the group, i got my legendary back somehow (wasn't on anyones corpse). my raider reputation fell, and dutchess just said that so long as everyone's okay. earlier i needed to find a pristine robot body for an assaultron head, but i could assign them to other types of robots too (i didn't, i found an assautron body).

Since then it has been a mix of base game story quests and the new quests, but the old quests have had small tweaks (adds some humans, changes how you get the quest etc). as of my time of writing this, i have played for around 8-10 hours of the DLC, i'm at level 10 and it has given me just as much enjoyment as when i had first played fallout 4. my ONLY complaint is that you need to get to level 20 to continue with the main story after the wayward, but its really just a case of doing the old quests, then coming back. i Enjoy Fallout 76 now more than ever, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who might be interested.

But it is still o e of the best games out there today. Bethesda is known for glitchy games, it happens, it's no reason to hate it. I was pretty skeptical but I got the game for 15 bucks and I have put in a lot of hours. There is lots to explore. I think a lot of these reviews are either from when there were a lot more bugs or people that just hate that it is an online game. It is a lot like when people hate a movie that was made after a book and it did not live up to what they read from the book. I like to judge material based on its individual standing. Note if you have a PS4 Pro which I do, it will crash every now and then. It can be annoying depending on the timing of the crash. Expand

This is a dark Fallout environment that promises to get more complex over time. The initial glitches are being sorted out, and yeah, the next lot of glitches will get sorted out too - I don't care about that, personally... I am grateful to be able to wander this Blasted Heath..

Great game, awesome story. I've been playing since beta and have never had complaints. Bugs are taken care of swiftly. And to anyone thinking there shouldn't have been bugs to begin with, welcome to the real world. I really rated Fallout 3, Fallout 4 was good, Fallout 76 started off terribly and seemed sort of pre-release standard (Bethesda seem to do this all the time). Fallout 76 has had several updates and DLC added which have transformed the game for me, yes there are still a few bugs but now there are separate servers for PVE and PVP and another for the new Battle Royal aspect. As I am not unemployed or a student I find the missions and content enough to keep me busy within the game as a single PVE oriented player. I have enjoyed base building, farming, trading (via vending machines), getting and upgrading power armour, tackling the ghouls, scorched, mutants and many other creatures in the game. Some of my best experiences have been casually interacting with other players. I am not in a group or a clan and normally play alone, however the Fallout 76 community is very good; there are some idiots, spoiled little kids and dicks as in any on-line game but in general mostly everyone I have met has been friendly. My first interaction was whilst building a base as a level 10, a level 100 guy came to see what I was up to and gave me some tips and a really good weapon. Later another guy saw me selling junk at Morgan Town Station at level 20 and said if I helped him collect some items he would help me out as he liked helping new players. He showed me new areas on the map, made and gave me under armour, power armour and upgraded weapons and ammunition, that experience changed my play. I am now level 100+ with upgraded T51-b and X-01 power armour and can tackle a scorch-beast (though it's still better with a second player) , on a casual basis I give food, water, weapons and hopefully some help to newer players I meet as the community did this for me. Those previous experiences changed the game for me. There are voice comm's in game so you can interact and If there's an annoying kid, gang of dicks or total ass on the sever, server hop, there's plenty other servers but in my experience those sorts are few and far between. The Fallout community was, and is more than just the actual game. I for one am enjoying Fallout 76, the updates and DLC just add more for my enjoyment but I guess at the end of the day it boils down to what type of game/experience you were looking for. In my opinion if you want instant gratification and pay-to-win this is not the game for you. If you want to PVE with casual player interaction at your choosing then this is the game for you, with the added bonus of PVP and Battle Royal servers if you fancy a go at that. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout 76 is a collection of contradictions.

On the one hand, even at the time of writing, it has some big bugs, on the other hand they pale in comparison to the fun of launching nukes and the multitude of events.
The story is an incredibly deep, tragic, complicated, meditation on technology and its relationship with humankind, yet it is ultimately a jigsaw puzzle composed by ghosts. It is an incredibly solemn, at times lonely, experience, but conversely it has the best community of people you could possibly play with.
All of this is to say that Fallout 76 doesn't work on the terms of a typical single player RPG, where choice results from the differing desires of NPCs. BGS has made them before, and there are numerous others on the market. It works because in between the quests and events, there is a collection of incredibly fun gameplay experiences. Fighting the Scorchbeast Queen with a server of strangers, uncovering the history of Appalachia leading up to Reclamation Day (Myst as written by Cormack McCarthy), helping new players build their CAMP, and of course launching nukes. The voice actors are phenomenal, perfectly setting the mood of the game. And the frequent updates have made the game better, with backpacks, events, and bug fixes. The new Nuclear Winter mode is another addictive addition, with high replayability. Highly recommended. Because of, not in spite of, the contradictions.

So utterly disappointing and flawed in every possible way… The first few hours, most of it can be ignored, and occasionally the flaws can be forgotten, but only briefly before they come storming back to the forefront. An awful, boring, empty, pointless experience. There is, however, a glimmer of hope. It's worth mentioning that there has already been a Bethesda title that was equally as unimpressive: The Elder Scrolls Online - but looking at it now, it has transformed into one of the best MMOs out there. There's always the hope the Fallout 76 develops the same way and becomes something special, but for now, that seems impossible. It's a world away from that.

Fallout 76 isn't your typical fallout experience. You don't have NPCs or dialogue, but instead get real players that should fill this void - that ultimately fails to do so. It does some things right, but as of now I cannot recommend getting this game as long as it stays a broken and boring mess that it is right now.

Fallout 76 is the series’ Freshman introduction into the world of online, multiplayer games. As a result, we are experiencing all of the awkwardness and clumsiness associated with that season of life. It is imperfect and a bit uncomfortable, but I see opportunity for Fallout 76 to be more than it presently it - to be a truly great, rich Fallout experience.
