Simply put, the game is lovely, and looks fantastic on PS4. People complaining about the graphics need their eyes checked. I am a major graphics nut, have a very nice PC with a GTX970, but I have a thing about buying Bethesda games on console so I am not tempted to use console commands, so I got the PS4 version. Is it a graphics Marvel, no it isnt, but its still a beautiful game. If you were a fan of Fallout 3 and New vegas you will notice just how vibrant and bright the colors and art styles are. I entered a hidden passageway that reminded me of Wolfenstein: The New order in design yesterday, impressive visually.

Gameplay thus far is great, guns handle way better than previous Fallout games and the design your character and building a settlement in the first 5 hours or so of the game had me hooked. Its like a game within a game, love the creativity with it and the weapon building. I think any real fallout3 fan is going to love it.

I havent actually run into bugs but that's part of the charm on Bethesda games. Unless its a game killing bug, most of the bugs are a minor annoyance at best. Framerate has been fine for me thus far, but I have heard its a bit low on Xbox One at times, having it's AMD 7790 GPU running 1080p on it was probably a bad idea, they should have stuck with 900p or 720p like most other games. I have a sneaking suspicion MS had a hand in it being 1080p even if the performance suffered.

I played Morrowind for 500 plus hours on the original Xbox when it was much worse looking than the PC version and had much lower framerates, So PS4 having slightly less than 30 with dips near 20 doesnt really bother me. I'll get on PC eventually when the Mods hit and enjoy better graphics then. For now, you cant go wrong with this game unless your wanting perfection, or bought an Xbox One.

I honestly can't understand how some people are giving this game anything below a 7. I can understand a 7 rating because of the bugs and some other quirks but Fallout 4 deserves nothing less. I really wonder if the writers of the negative reviews have actually purchased and played the game.

If you are a fan of Fallout 3 then you will really enjoy Fallout 4. It really feels like your playing Fallout 3 but in a different location with does varying differences. Some you may enjoy and some you may not but that's just personal preference. Some may not like the change to the leveling up system. Some may not like the new dialog system. I myself am not bothered by either. My favorite things about Fallout have always been the exploring and the fights which are fantastic.

One of the biggest additions to the game that I happen to love is the crafting system. It may not be for everyone and that's ok since you don't have to partake in it if you don't want to. I enjoy it and find myself spending hours working on my settlement instead of following a mission. So amazing how this can be like a game within the game.

The weapons are pretty awesome and the ability to craft this is great. I love how you can pick your favorite weapon and really focus on it. You can put points towards perks to increase you ability using it and you can craft the weapon into something very strong. you can even name the weapon if you like.

I've noticed that Fallout 4 is a little more challenging than Fallout 3. Enemies seem to be smarter and can really overwhelm you. I find myself sneaking around a lot more and trying to pick enemies off one at a times. Going in guns blazing may not always be the best strategy but if you want to you can.

Overall I think Fallout 4 is fantastic. It doesn't take much to be caught up in the game for over 3 hours without even realizing it. I can't give it a perfect score since it is not perfect and it does not deserve it. I do believe it deserves a 9 rating though. Most of the bugs and quirks are not enough to actually take away from the game. Some may be a little annoying but everything else in the game makes up for it. I highly recommend this game.

10 for this game, because as of this writing there is absolutely no way this game should be sitting at a 6.3. There is so much depth and customization, the graphics are gorgeous, and finding more and more unique and interesting locations is the biggest draw.

I'll write this review with the caveat that the only games I would ever give a 10 to are Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Dark Souls. However I feel obliged to give the 10 score in hopes of bumping the 6.3 to the middle 8's where this game belongs. It's a solid AAA offering, well crafted, and very fun. On ps4 I've never had a problem with bugs etc. I do understand they exist, but it played clean for me.

Fallout 4 is the paradox game . This game has been terrible graphis and worst animation , at the same time offering amazing atmospheric and postapocalyptic world ..Fallout 4 is not the game of the year( the Witcher 3 the best of 2015 years ),not better than fallout 1 and 2. Game is very addictive ,and It has very complex possibilities.

As usual, Bethesda created a world, where the player actually lives a life!!! U can do so many things there!!! Environmental stories are awesome. Fun and sad. Tons of fun messing with the guns. The graphics are cool. Thank you, Bethesda

So... I had to sign up for this site and leave a review. Like many I wait to read the reviews before I buy a game as in this day and age sometimes game companies loose touch with reality and in the ever onslaught of copy and paste - rebrand with a new game name and sell for 60 bucks. Like many I wait to read the reviews before I buy a game as in this day and age sometimes game companies loose touch with reality and in the ever onslaught of copy and paste - rebrand with a new game name and sell for 60 bucks. Like many I read the review's and it was neck and neck.. so games like this are hard to pull the trigger on.. The one word I kept seeing a lot was SKYRIM so... to me that could never be a bad thing. So I bought the game and well its SKYRIM love it or hate it...

    First few days :
At first I wasn't impressed.. the graphics don't bother me they are good enough.. the bugs don't bother me which I have not seen many.. they are funny when they do happen much like Skyrim. The voice acting is blah... the biggest gripe is the storyline is subpar to say the least.. so far .. I'm LVL 9 so maybe it will get better. However right out the gate... really... your telling me 80 people at the game studio could not come up with a better story line... what did you guys have a brown bag , draw it up on the whiteboard in 10 min... Bethesda would have been better off to bring in some 6 year olds and have them do the storyline... ATLEAST IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ORGINAL... (not joking) I get it , the concept of Fallout is post war but I can write on paper already 10 great concepts with that.. instead of the preferably opening scene of the game... but whatevs.... just the content alone and everything else offsets it. My last disappointment was how easy it was... I'm flying through the game with no real challenge... WHY DO I NEED A SUIT OF ARMOR when I'm already kicking azzzz.. One last pet peeve... the game is G rated / PG rated at times then other times R / rated... can we get some consistency here... Its a game for adults obviously..

    After a few days:
I'M FREAKING LOVING THIS GAME... I must have overlooked it but there is a difficulty setting.. I bumped it up to survivability and now everything is so worth it.. Now I barley leave home with out my armor suit :) This is a tad harder setting then Legendary setting on Skyrim .. cause we all know after you get your gear made even legendary wasn't to hard. NOW all those perks people are complaining about are vital... every bullet... every tin can you pick up... it all counts. Right now I'm lvl 13 . Very early stages but I'm enjoying the game for what it is and not rushing through it...

I bought this for PS4 to play through the first time... Once the mods start rolling out on PC I will pick up another copy ...

Just a honest opinion from my prospective... hopefully this will help someone. If you loved Skyrim then this game was made for you... get it you wont be disappointed in that aspect. It really is a good game and after getting into it I'm glad I didn't waste my money.

I'm enjoying the game. I just want to know why such old computers were used in the year 2077. If these computers were used simply to add something familiar for Fallout fans, it was a bad rhetorical choice. I had a green screen CRT computer in 1992. The old computers in this futuristic wasteland clunk along slower than my 1992 PC (R.I.P.). Both the computer and Pipboy screens should have been colorized, in my humble opinion. Having more fluid movement in 3rd-person view would have been nice too. The game is still a lot of fun and I keep wanting to get back to the story to discover what will happen next. The graphics are a mix between last gen and current gen. Inventory seems a bit convoluted and makes it difficult to find things. These words are more of a rambling tangent than a review, but that was my intention. Food for thought. Expand

Fallout 4 is the newest installment in Bethesda's saga about life in the post-apocalyptic world. The Elder Scrolls, Rage, and Dishonored have been Bethesda's previous successful games, it's no surprise what they have brought us in the Fallout games. Fallout 4 feels very similar to Skyrim in the sense that is uses the same engine which I personally liked and got used to it very easily unlike Oblivion's engine which took me a while to get the hang of.

    Gameplay:
The first thing that the game wants you to do is to create your character. The features on this are more than I anticipated it to be; I thought it would be like Skyrim's character design, but this one is way more specific. For instance, you can model your character's eyebrows, face textures, and the shape of your ears. Unlike all of other Bethesda's games, this is the first game from them to have the protagonist a voice. I was surprised when I first found out that this was an actual feature that was going to be added in the game. After you create your character, you are in a first-person mode which feels great to look at and easy to control. There are many types of places when you get out in the vast, huge open world that you will be exploring for many hours. I also like how your decisions in the game could have a huge impact on the main story or side-missions, saying positive and negative things could lead to different situations in the missions you are doing. The A.I could be a little funky at times, like when you get your dog companion, as it could sometimes feel is if he is following you at one moment, then the next he isn't. There are also some minor problems with the dog, as he could find one item, but there really is nothing there. I personally enjoy how Bethesda brought the gameplay to a whole new level, with designing weapons, building fortresses, and how the leveling up system works.

    Graphics:
While certainly not top-notch, the game is beautiful to look at. Like with many other games from Bethesda, there are some graphical bugs and errors that can be easily spotted just from defeating some enemy or an environment issue such as items falling through the floor, or enemy's randomly dying for no reason.

    Soundtrack:
As for most of Bethesda's games, they all have an original soundtrack. The Fallout games is no stranger when it comes to amazing soundtrack recordings and intense moments when you are fighting enemies. The soundtrack while looking around the environment is very calm and quiet, it kind of makes you feel that you are the only one out in the open world.

Overall, Fallout 4 did not ruin my expectations for the game. The game is beautiful to look at, it's very easy to enjoy, and has tons of content. The game was anticipated by many players since the day it was first announced. This maybe one of the best Bethesda games ever, and probably one of the best game you will play all year.

There are things im not so keen on, I preferred the way the Camera would zoom into new charecters and give you a much better dialog selection in the previous Bethesda games for example. There is other small things like this that I did not like as much but never the less, im only 4 hours into it and iv already got a huge smile on my face and thats what Fallout is about. Exploration and anticipation of all the new crazy and wonderful characters you meet while travelling the wastes.

I would normally wait until i finish a game to rate it and I would certainly not give it a 10 normally but 6.3 is a joke!

If you loved the other fallout games, ignore the bad reviews from COD fanboys who dont understand Fallout and buy this. Trust me.

Example. Cobblesworth talking with Sturges. This was not a cutscene, that was in game. I was surprised when I saw that happened. The character developement was so good and I am not talking about 5-6 people. Lot's of people have their own personalities which makes the game so unique. The world looks awesome after the war and the guns are fun to use. i gave it 9/10 because of FPS drops (Frames per Sec) went down to a 1 frame sometimes and some bugs do happen. Thank god it does rarely happen to AI or companions or I would rate it 8/10. Bethesda made a beautiful game and it's incredible. Interaction with AI is good with options which will affect your story. And no it's not two options which is No and Yes. You can be a heartless sarcastic bastard or a Yes man and you can ask questions which makes it more unique.

The story in this is mediocre. I rarely cared for the kid honestly and fighting along Brotherhood of Steel was much more fun although I get dumb quest like taking a kid with my squad to dangerous places and the kid wouldn't shut the **** up.

Some useless mechanics like the flare tingy which makes you sit in a helecopter (If you joined Brotherhood of Steel) and it will take you places. Now you wonder what the hell I am talking about. You have fast travel in the game and the flare thing works almost exactly like that but worse. It used much more time, can't even fly to some areas because it's a city or too crowded but fast traveling on foot works fine.

Dumb controller. It really **** me but what I loved was that you can change buttons. I mean instead of COD which already presents a few choiches, you can change all the button in the exact way you want to have them on.

Overall a good game and worth trying. Don't know why most of the negative comments come from true fallout fans...

Its the first time I find myself losing all day and all night in the building of settlements and running quests, the game is so large, the customization is insane. it needs a tutorial and needs to explain a TON of things, mechanic wise, like how to get your caps when you run a store, or how to use VATS, but I still would give it 9/10.

Its very polished, although seems like its missing content, to help a new player. But, if it did have a friendlier start, This game might have been the highest rated Metacritic game of all time. The few missing things, are noticed, and can be frustrating, if your building or having trouble learning the game.

It just means you will probably restart the game after investing 50 hours. The second time around is even better, since you know not to waste time building fences to run off an area...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Awesome game, no idea what people are complaining about. As a person who tends to end up skipping through a lot of the endless dialogue in previous Bethesda games it's refreshing to be able to just watch and hear the dialogue instead of reading everything. I do not feel that this is anywhere near the problem that people are making out, voice acting is decent and I am enjoying the storyline so far. I love the settlements feature, first thing I did was spend ~5 hours making the basis for my fort, it's very in depth for an optional feature and adds a great element to Fallout, I feel like I'm conquering the wasteland as I progress. I think the graphics look fine, sure it's not got the best graphics but I think the art style and weather/lighting makes up for this giving some impressive views from time to time. As for the new levelling system, it's simplified yet also expanded, there's no skills any more, just 10 perks for each letter of your SPECIAL. Each perk has multiple ranks and can give various different effects for each level, quite a few are just increased percentages e.g. rifles do 20% more, 40% more, while others are tied to your gun mods/settlements/crafting, radiation resistance etc. All in all it works well and though some people think this is a negative point I once again find it an interesting change, after all switching up mechanics helps the game to feel fresh. On to the crafting system, it's excellent, they have really built on the system set by Obsidian in a great way, you can mod your guns (and your armour) far more than in New Vegas, in fact, far more than in any other game I have played. Unique weapons dropped by legendary enemies also have some cool effects, I got a revolver which shot .45 ammo but also added 10 points of plasma damage, or a rifle that did +50% damage to humans and also armour pieces with 15% less damage from supermutants etc. It's always a great feeling to get unique gear with a great effect, really good feature that wasn't present in previous games. The soundtrack is brilliant, protip: Always keep the radio on. Returning favourites from Fallout 3 and the new additions fit the style perfectly. Radiation now actually matters, in Fallout 3 and NV I really didnt pay much attention to radiation, it debuffed my stats a bit but was never particularly noticeable. Now if I'm getting major rads I definitely know about it when my health is reduced to 50%, being used to this kind of mechanic from playing From Software games I prefer it this way and think it was a good move. Early on there was moments where I was praying for a radaway. The radiation storms look badass also. Power armour has been implemented well this time around, its a full juggernaut tank suit with interchangeable parts, paintjobs/materials with various resistances and additional mods e.g. jetpack. You power it with fusion cores and it feels much more like a context based aid rather than just your general armour, it gives it a sense of true power and weight.

On to negatives, a few frame rate issues but if you're that bothered about the frame rate go out and buy yourself a high end gaming PC and stop whining. Bugs (to be expected) however usually just graphics glitches and nothing that has affected my experience or caused any problems. Getting pieces to connect when building settlements can be frustrating, sometimes they just won't connect with no obvious reason and you will have to rethink your construction which takes some of the freedom away. There's no separate perks for energy/ballistic weapons unfortunately, I liked having to spec into one or the other, obviously you do have the choice of which you use either way and you can just choose to use solely energy weapons if you want to. They have always been more context based anyway due to enemy resistances but it does feel a little bit disappointing, just to clarify though it doesn't spoil it for me at all.

Overall I think this more than lives up to my expectations, takes a few risks switching up major gameplay systems which ultimately pay off, some minor faults but nothing that seriously bothers me, one of the best games released in the past year and I can see myself spending a whole lot of time on it. Hard to pick a GOTY between Fallout, Witcher and Bloodborne, 2015 has been a great year for gaming.

I have to say that this is not an easy game. The wasteland is an unforgiving place, and you frequently find yourself running away from a fight, running out of ammo and dying, dying a lot. You seem to go questing with the knowledge that your chances for survival are 50% or less. Thank Zeus for autosave. I'm about 20 hrs in and feel like I have made very little progress with my character. But this is merely testemony to how much one needs to get deep and personal with the game's intricate and complex crafting and customisation in order to get settled in. I think this plays a big part in what turns some people down from this game, it's the learning curve of systems combined with an unfriendly and very hostile environment that doesn't give you too much space to breathe. I can imagine the thousands of angry people throwing their controllers down after 4 or 6 hours, miserable and throwing in the towel, then comming to the internet to blame the developer or the speech system, or the graphics or the bugs. None of those things has broken the immersion ONCE since I have started playing this game. Lets face it if you want to be rewarded you have to work for it and stick to it, not give up with less than a days work. And even me as a newcomer knows this principle applies to the most decent rpg's out there and Fallout 4 is no different.

There is much more to love about this game then there is to dislike. The combat is great fun and keeps getting better. Your companions are useful and trustworthy. Dogmeat is adorable and codsworth is funny and vicious. The music is optional and tuning into radio stations you often hear news about your own activities.

There is an excellent ballance between moments of calmness and panic in the wasteland and bathesda has done it right. It's a shame that so many people will miss out on it because they had failed as a true hardened and patient- lets not forger mature- gamer. 9.2/10

The world is full of things to find and do and just walking around an finding an unexpected raider base which happens to have some amazing weapon, finding a delusional ranting robot or running into a side quest I wasn't expecting have all been really fun experiences.

Its great to see Fallout do this element of open world RPG's very very well and while there is room for improvement the game has a lot to offer, especially if you like customising weapons and building bases. I can see myself spending 40 to 50 hours in the game which in Australia means the price is $1.73 to $1.38 per hour of game-play and I'm am more than happy with that return.

Some of the serious bugs and glitches are now game-breakingly annoying with the new Survival Mode.

    Long Version:
The new Survival Mode checkpoint saving (beds only) PLUS a buggy game EQUALS 0 score.

Why 0? Because the game is broken in my eyes, no matter how large it is, no matter how many features it has, and so on. If I'm being punished for their bugs, the game is broken.
    • I refuse to repeatedly replay half-hour survival runs that I got right, because of their poor programming.
    • I refuse to play on a lower difficulty. It's too easy as it is.
    • I refuse to constantly find checkpoint-beds to work around the bugs and flaws, because it also means having to replay parts of the game that I got right.

1)Watching bodies / loot disappear before I can grab the loot feels like an excercise in epic trolling.
    2) Having my settlers suddenly start stealing from both workshops and containers is not a game feature. It is a design flaw or bug that feels like an exercise in epic trolling.
    3) If a game feature (building/settlements/settlers) is implemented so poorly that the players have to talk to each other to find ridiculous work-arounds, the game is broken.

I don't care that the game is an A for art design and map design.
Make a game that's half as big, with half as many features, and get it right.

To give a game 0/10 is essentially to propose that it is entirely without merit, terrible in every regard, completely broken, and lacking any redeeming qualities. How one can say that about Fall Out 4 is beyond me. It would be like giving 0/10 to Beethoven’s Fifth or Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, simply because you don’t like Beethoven or Queen. A lot of people appear to be registering their disappointment that it either fails to meet expectations (that they have created for themselves) or that it is not a ‘true’ Fall Out game.

But let’s look at the various elements:

Graphics: not mind-blowing, but hardly terrible. The aesthetic – open wasteland, piercing blue sky etc - reminds me a little of Rage on last generation. On PS4 it looks like a re-mastered version of a PS3 game: not quite last gen, not quite current gen. That is of course a shame – and we all know that The Witcher 3 has set a new bar; similarly, the now-standard mechanism of a prologue in a confined area followed by an open-world reveal is growing a little tired, and nothing quite matches 'that' moment in Oblivion. But somewhere around 6 or 7 is surely the minimum.

Immersion: the sense of time and place, and alternative history backstory, is, as ever, well-constructed, albeit a little rushed (especially the opening – if we are to invest in the characters, and what has been lost, then more time was needed). There is detail hidden away if you care to look (I wonder how many people don’t even read all the terminal entries in the prologue section, or note the retro-game built-into one of them, or see the attention to detail in the remains of houses).

Combat: never a Bethesda strong point, particularly melee, and a little more innovation around the VATS system would have been nice. But the point of the game is that it is quite possible to achieve a significant amount without ever really entering combat. And this is why some criticism is too harsh. It is inevitable that the more ways there are of moving through a game, the less polished any one element will be relative to a game that focuses more obviously in one direction.

RPG elements: a major criticism appears to be ‘dumbing down’ (curse these developers for wanting to sell a few more copies at a time when games can cost more to develop than Hollywood blockbusters). In fairness, it has perhaps been over-simplified. In my view, Skyrim got the balance just about right (anyone who played Oblivion with a stat-tracking Excel spreadsheet open will know what I mean). The attempt to compensate comes via crafting and the settlement feature – and this is always a divisive element.

Glitches: an inevitable part of the Bethesda universe (their QA has never been great, but their games really do give rise to more potential scenarios than almost any other game); and this is nowhere near as broken as PS3 Skyrim on release, for example. Could it have done with another 6-12 months? Probably (but accountants and share-holders tend to get twitchy).

So, somewhere around 7/10 or 8/10 would appear objectively reasonable. The 0/10s are not objective appraisals of the game ‘as it is’, but reflective of reactions based on other things which people have then allowed to inform their entire opinion.

However Fallout 4 was a bit harder to forgive as it didn't strike me as all that ambitious. The Witcher 3 is ambitious. Fallout 4 at times felt LAZY by comparison. I don't believe that graphics make a game, and I certainly wasn't expecting much from a Bethesda game (I mean, come on it's Bethesda). But I still couldn't shake the constant feeling of "I wish they had tried a bit harder" as I observed some of the fine details in the game. -Game is great. Not a masterpiece but far from a disgrace as so many are hellbent on saying.

    - If this game isn't an RPG to you, then you're probably lazy. Explore, search everything, talk to everyone That's the essence of an RPG and its all in this game. Oh and as an added bonus you can build your own friggin towns and ADD TO THE WORLD.

    - Dialog is a bit hackjob, I won't argue. But I don't see a huge difference between this game and past titles

    - Maybe it's me but this game is in no way an FPS, its far more tactical.

    - New skill system is a welcome change. Does anyone else realize how stupid it was in past games to have, for example, 1 Charisma but 100 Speech & Barter. All the old skills are still here under new names and as perks or built into the stat to begin with.

    - Dissapointed that survival difficulty no longer requires you to stay fed, hydrated and well rested.

    - Finally, If this game came out under another name under the umbrella of different developer & publisher I can promise you the user score would be very different. Implementation of new ideas and/or the game not being what YOU expected does not make it bad. It makes it new, and it's unfortunate so many people who can't handle that have bombarded the ratings with scores it does not deserve. The lowest this game should receive is a 5, and that's if you're being meticulously critical.

Incidentally, Metacritic should really lock user review access until 24-48 hours after the release.

I still take a few moments to stop and watch when a rad storm moves in. While out exploring the land, you will come across an immense amount of lootable items. Luckily this time around, Bethesda has made every single one of these items useful. No more picking and choosing as was a huge headache in Elder Scrolls. Building your settlements is hugely addictive. The build menus are a bit clunky and take time to get used to. Also the restrictive camera can make placement of certain structure elements a frustrating lesson in trial and error. The story so far has also been a lackluster attempt and the opening sequence felt almost tacked on. Of course it wouldn't be a Bethesda game without the presence of some periodic glitches although nothing game breaking yet. Pacing is also sometimes curious. If you are a player that prefers to focus primarily on story missions, then you are going to have a difficult time. Huge difficulty spikes in story missions and even en route to a story location will force you to retreat and improve weapons, armor, and supplies before making another attempt. All in all, this is a solid game with a learning curve. Definitely a recommend for any open world gamer. Expand

The gameplay is by far one of the best yet. With each death and respawn the scenario and enemies with different degrees ofdifficulty was different up to a half a dozen times or more! Simply amazed. NOTHING that these ***munchers said negative about the game is true. I hope the cracked their discs in half and denied themselves gaming heaven. They have their heads so far up their asses they can see their rotten teeth and smell their bad breath. The only thing that they can say is negative is some bugs but which game doesn't have that?? There's a few things keeping this from being perfect. Ai companions ignore a lot of my commands, tracking markers have me running in circles at times, no vaulting, third person reticle is off at times, selecting weapons during intense situations takes too long, the save system is a cluttered mess, and the game freezes.

    Those are the only flaws.

The pluses++++ The rest of the game more than makes up for any short comings. I can't say the graphics are even bad really. We are not there yet with system power on consoles. The gameplay is enhanced above even Skyrim. Every building in the game can be entered and each location's interior is unique. The plot around the father searching for his son gets the most unpredictable turn you could imagine. Making choices is so important that anyone you make friends with will impact the story. I literally was a rat who partnered on both sides of a war. I saved at different times so I was able to prevent a war. This is the game of the year without exception. This is also my favorite game of all time. Myamotto, Kojima, and the Housers are industry leading geniuses. I think Tod Howard is the next commendable gaming developer of our time. He has made just as many hits as the other guys. Let the industry take full notice of his achievements.

I have completely disliked fallout 3 that was more or less a morrowind in the fallout setting, but the boys have nailed it this time. The side characters are memorable and interesting, and this game is as close to the old fallout magic as games can get. If you absolutely loved F1 & F2 - you should at least give this a check.

game as Fallout 3, set in a larger area with improved graphics, AI, skill tree progressions and
storylines. It’s exactly what fans wanted, which is more of the same, but better. If you’ve
    played past games in the series, you will immediately feel at home, and Bethesda know this;
utilising the slogan ‘Welcome Home’ in their marketing campaigns was completely
deliberate. It’s the same gritty universe you’ve grown to love; Bethesda have invited you
to fall in love with it again.

This edition of the franchise brings the player to a postapocalyptic version of Boston. From
the moment you exit Vault 111 to greet the outside world, you are met with the sight of the
world that will become your sandbox for as long as you will it to be. Immediately, the
    improvements on previous installments are noticeable with regards to the environment;
husks of trees cut rays of sunlight in a realistic manner, clouds part to make the starry night
sky clear, fog encompasses you and rain blocks your field of view. This mere addition
already adds much more depth to the player experience, making it that much harder to let go
    of the gamepad.

One of the more anticipated refinements to the game is its crafting system. Previous
installments have had fairly basic methods of crafting incorporated into general gameplay,
but for Fallout 4 it has been given a complete overhaul. Literally every item lying about is a
tool you can use, whether it’s to be used for modding weapons and armour or repairs. Gone
are the days of hoarding around useless items. See a car? Scrap it for iron. See a Table?
Scrap it for wood. All of these are used when it comes to the apex of Fallout 4’s crafting
system; the ability to build your own settlement. This feature is a completely new addition,
but acts as more of a mini game rather than anything conducive to the plot. Regardless, you
may very well find yourself spending hours upon hours constructing and defending your own
settlement, especially if you’re looking for something substantial to keep you occupied once
the main quest has been completed.

In terms of actual gameplay, the player is treated to a familiar first or third person (which you
can switch between on the fly) combat system that has been overhauled. Shooting feels
great; the character animations mimic reallife reactions, and the animations added to each
weapon only amplify the satisfaction gained by pulling a trigger. V.A.T.S, the target selection
tool that froze time in previous installments, returns in a modified form; rather than
completely freezing time, it only slows it down, which adds a level of urgency and intensity to
the process, given the enemy you’re fighting is still charging towards you. The mix of
strategy and utility that this new V.A.T.S encourages is a a unique selling point of the
franchise, and is far more satisfying option than shooting in real time, which the player also
has the option of doing. Outside of combat, the player is treated to one of the best dialogue
systems within games in recent years. Gone are the days of overused voice actors; Fallout 4
is host to a multitude of different voices, one of which actually belongs to your character for
the first time ever within a Bethesda RPG. The only downside to the gameplay is that, as
with any other Bethesda game, there are bugs and glitches that will often surface while
playing. This is especially noticeable when it comes to companions, who are still more useful
as walking suitcases for extra equipment than allies in battle. Hopefully these will be ironed
out with a patch in the future, but past entries in the series indicate otherwise.

It is pleasing to notice that Bethesda have made clear improvements in their storyline
    crafting. Fallout 3 was known for it’s head first approach with regards to it’s main storyline;
from the getgo you were on a quest to discover the whereabouts of your father, with the
game pushing you in the direction of the main quest and leaving you to your own devices with regards to side quests. Without spoiling anything, Fallout 4 does the opposite; the main quest teases you, painfully so, taking a good two hours before feeding you any substantial information with regards to the main plot. Also, the side quests don’t feel like side quests in the traditional sense; they all feel as if they have links to the main plot, and somewhat influence it depending on their outcome. The story slowly encapsulates you to the point where you’ve entered a liminal state, losing track of time and becoming a thrall to the story. A caveat here to anyone with an active social life. Fallout 4 is living up to its expectations as an involving RPG. With an abundance of stories to explore and quests to engage with, as well as your own settlements to look after, Bethesda have crafted the quintessential single player experience, spoiled slightly by Bethesda's age old curse: bugs

The game looks much better and its options can be easily tweaked to run smoothly and look gorgeous on my 5 years-old LAPTOP with nVidia 555m. If you have even worse than that - it's only your fault.

The only minus here is to colorful sights, unlike in previous Fallout games. But maybe I just get used to Fallout 3 and New Vegas filters :)
    2. Bugs. Well, there are some. But no one is gamebreaking and overall the game is much more stable than ANY Bethesda game before it (at least staring with Fallout 3). During my 25 hours gameplay I had ONE crash-to-desktop. There is nothing to compare with the latest Witcher, which was in fact worse than Unity talking about bugs and optimization, but somehow people ignored that.
    3. The world isn't that big, but there is much to do, I also like the main plot very much, partly because I was waiting for something with "androids" for a long time :) The only minus (a BIG one) for me is that (again, unlike in recent previous Bethesda games) we are given a character with strongly pre-defined story. Not like Witcher (thanks god), but still, and you can't even choose anything except gender. I'm not interesting in having some stupid son an "saving" him, at all. But I STILL has some hope about that ;)
    4. I have no complains about gameplay mechanics and RPG system. They work, so it's enough for me. I was skeptical about new crafting (I mean building of settlements), but in fact I liked it!
RPG OTY. Maybe would give it a 9, but it seems some fanboys of either Witcher or older Fallout games are being unfair. Oh, well. 10 it is.

I only use one method to judge a game. It has never failed me. I ask myself two questions.

    1. Do I stay up too late playing the game? 2. Did I want to call work and say I was sick to stay home and play the game? If the answer is yes to both then it is a success. I don't really fancy rating systems so I'll give it a 10. I don't see how people are disappointed in the graphics.

I don't see how people are disappointed in the graphics. I don't compare Fallout games to other games, I just compare them to their predecessors. The graphics are much better then previous versions. The character creation had far more options and I was happy with the way my toon turned out. As a gamer who's first "console" was an Atari 800, minor bugs, fps, that kind of stuff doesn't factor in when I judge a game.

Basically if you liked Fallout and spent hundreds of hours on the previous versions then buy this game, it's definitely worth the purchase even if it doesn't add much of anything new. For me a new place to play in the Wastelands was worth the 80.00.

I was going to give Fallout 4 a rating of 4/10, but then I saw multitudes of 10/10 'best game I've ever played' type 'reviews'. Which are packed full of absolute lies. Either posted by fanboys in denial, or by Bethesda's employees.

This game has been nothing but disappointing so far. I've played for over 40 hours, expecting things to get better, but they have only gotten worse, casual FPS style.

    The Pros:

-Graphics are improved over previous entries, but are still sub-standard.

-Enemy AI is slightly improved, animals will burrow into the ground when you try the old 'stand on a rock to get out of reach' trick that has worked in every other Bethesda RPG. Human enemies actually take cover and don't just rush to their deaths, they also weave when you are aiming at them.

-Building is a nice touch, although the mechanics of it could be hugely improved, as it is riddled with illogical flaws (like floating buildings). You can actually build a flying wooden house in the sky (not actually flying, just daft physics). Yes, really.

-The shooting mechanics are a little better than previous entries, BUT the improvement is not massive, and it still feels largely the same as F3/NV. Don't expect Bioshock shooting or anything.

-Crafting/upgrades. Good, but require far too much time investment to get anything worthwhile.

    -------------

    The cons:

    - Dialogue. The new dialogue system is absolutely atrocious. Now F3 and NV weren't exactly perfect in terms of dialogue, but they provided interesting, unexpected choices, with numerous outcomes in every situation. Remember spitting on Butch's sweet roll? Remember being an evil character? None of this exists in F4, and this is the game's biggest failure: dialogue is now reduced to 4 choices at all times:
    1) yes (the only way to progress)
    2) no (=come back later if you change your mind)
    3) why/what? (provides a recap of whatever has just been said, in case you skipped past the dialogue)
    4) Sarcastic (tell a joke, none of which are ever funny or remotely amusing, and none have any additional effect on the conversation).

Almost every conversation has only one outcome: violence. I've obsessively re-loaded and tried multiple ways around each conversation/standoff. Only rarely was there any choice whatsoever to avert a bloodbath. More than 90% of these situations have only one outcome. I enjoyed F3 and NV even more. F4 has completely destroyed the most fun and enjoyable aspect of the series: RP and interaction with NPCs. This has truly ruined the core of the game: your choices DO NOT matter. At all.

    -RPG elements removed. Seriously.

-Voiced protagonist. This was a horrible addition. I have not yet played a female character, but the male voice actor is ridiculous. He sounds completely nonchalant about everything. To clarify: his infant son has just been kidnapped, and he never gives any hints of being upset or traumatised, or being angry or anything. There are a few main story quests where he starts to sound a little upset, and of course, every storyline situation turns into a battle. You get a choice of 4 ways of saying 'ok, let's fight' every time before it starts. The voiced protagonist has no character, and really brings the whole RP element down as he plays the uncaring, nonchalant father looking (or not bothering to, most of the time) for his missing child.

-Ridiculous plot holes and narrative flaws:
    1) Kellogg (the man who kidnapped your son) somehow knows your son's name, despite there being no possible way of him knowing this, having abducted the baby as an infant and having never seen or heard his name. Somehow, Kellogg magically knows Shaun's name. Ludicrous. Bethesda cannot write coherently at all.

    2) I wandered into a place called Covenant, where my character immediately started getting dialogue options to ask about characters he has never heard of previously, calling them by name. This happens a LOT in Fallout 4 if you do your own exploring instead of just doing what quest-givers tell you.

-General lack of challenge, juxtaposed against cheap overpowered bullet-sponge 'legendary' enemies.
The vast majority of side quests consist of 'clear all ghouls' followed by the same quest 10 times in different locations. When it's not 'kill ghouls', it's 'kill all raiders', or 'retrieve item'. These quests make up the vast majority of the game's content, and they offer no dialogue at all, just combat with no other option.

Within the first 15 minutes or so of starting the game, you are given power-armour with a minigun, and you are made to fight a Deathclaw immediately after getting this gear. Within 30 mins of that, you'll join the Brotherhood of Steel after killing a few ghouls. The power armour removes any aspect of difficulty from this game, so I absolutely refuse to use it at all, it is like having god-mode cheats activated from the beginning. I can't stand using it.

-Bugs, ranging from the mildly omical, to the game-breaking.

Do you like Fallout? Avoid this garbage!

+The Power armors. Iron Man MKI simulator; enough said.
+Followers make comments on what you do and they come in many colors and sizes.
+Bugs are very rare given the game has just released. In 25 hours, my pip-boy did not appear twice only.

    Cons:
-Not knowing exactly what you'll say, even if it is rare that you will be mad against what he said.

    Cons:
    - has the gameplay of Skyrim (but if you liked Skyrim, like me, it has other similar characteristics)

This game is bound to get a range of mixed reviews, that's the problem with mass marketing a game to the world, when only a select few will truly enjoy the game. People will question the graphics, honestly it’s nit-picky, and anything to question would be the gameplay. After playing DS2 & Bloodborne (second to none gameplay), every attack in Fallout 4 feels like going back to the painful swinging of a 2 handed sword in Skyrim, eventually getting yourself stuck in a corner, with no agility to get out (especially if the dogs in the way).

Nevertheless this game does what many can't, it entices you. The game constantly pulls you in different directions, which in turn stops it from becoming a chore, and turns it into an adventure. Every time I set myself a marker to get to, I’d get side-tracked by spotting something ominous in the distance, or even a cry for help via the radio. Once you feel satisfied after doing a section of the main quest line, you can fall-back to upgrading your settlement & tinkering with your weapons & armour.

Before you buy this game, you have to question two things: (1) Do you want a game that offers immense gameplay, if so, don't buy this game. (2) Do you want a game that offers no boundaries, and gives you a mix of Skyrim's immense scope, FarCry 3's adrenaline, Bioshock's eeriness & partially, the Sims homeliness (in a post-apocalyptic setting, which is hard to do mind) - then this is the game for you.

If you think of this as a video game and not the digital answer to your entertainment prayers, it's pretty damn good. Negative reviewers were over-hyped and therefore disappointed.
New systems are well handled, old systems are improved. The dialogue system is a vast improvement, I actually listen to conversations now.
There are plenty of bugs/glitches but that's to be expected in a game

Cry that it's way to different then some cry it's changed and give it a 0 get out of here it's a great game that deserves no less than a 5 to start. Anyways what I think of the game so far
    Pros
+ long game play 60hours plus ( not like the order 1887 or 89 Ido t remember was to short )
+ huge area to explore and you can go into a lot more buildings than previous games
    + gun customization
+ gun game (control) it's smoother than all the past installments super smooth makes getting head shots more fun less. Clunky ( not sure why a lot of people are complaining about it being like call of duty it is a super smooth fun combat ) not sure why your mad guess you liked it when it controlled all **** idk
+ good graphics ( not blood borne)
+ great story makes you want to know what's going to happen next
+ building your own home/ city pretty cool not my thing but a cool add on I will spend some more time with this feature later for now I want to explore the wasteland but a cool addition
+ it's fall out 4 fun to play and talk about with friends and blogs on line more lore in the fallout universe love it hope the story teller makes some more u tube shows for it.
    Negs
    - has some glitches but lol Bethesda need I say more
    - load screens between areas without anything at least give us something to read or move around the screen
    - dialogue Wheel it's really bad and not many options yes/no/ good bye and sarcasm this is the worse part of the game not sure it can be fixed should of spent more time on it guys

    - all the haters saying it's like COD , it's like GTA, it's like blah blah it's like FO4 if you ask me I hope one day some developer will take all the good qualitys of all games and make one awesome **** game Just cause 3 ? Maybe nah but one day they should do that make a game with the controls of gran Turismo for cars ace combat for planes mortal Kombat for fighting All the EA sports games for any sports in the game You get the idea that would be epic I give the game a solid 8/10 but put my score at a 10 to level out all the negative reviews 0 is for a game that is unplayable 1-4 is for games that are really messed up and lack content and glitch out a lot 5 is ok if you just don't like a game that is well put together with love but you just don't agree with where the developer went with it not 0 haters and that's the Truth my nigs I will always give a honest review trust907 and buy fallout of your a fan of open world games and if you like science-fiction Postapocalypse Style I'm gonna go back to the comic book store to kill those **** zombies and learn about the movie they were filming blast some rad roaches have fun in the wasteland

I know I know you can't compare the two together but both games were made by Bethesda and there are definitely things that one can expect from a Bethesda game.

I was really hyped out for Fallout 4 since I enjoy FPS but hate the multi-player, the scripted campaigns and the lack of freedom and open world so Fallout 4 was a match made in heaven.

The main features that made me really excited to buy it on day 1 was:
    - FPS in RPG
-In depth Armour and Weapon Customization
    -Huge Open World
    -Settlement Construction(really like this one)
    -Vertibirds
    -Smart Companions
    -Freedom of Choices

I expected Fallout 4 to live up to the 10/10, game of the year hype that everyone said it would but sadly, not really.

Fallout 4 isn't a bad game but its just a good-OK game hence my score. The main issues i had with the game that wasn't good was:

-Dumbed down Dialogue, no really choice you basically can say yes only
    -Poor Frame-rate
    -Clearly Outdated game engine
    -Story is borderline
-Exploration has no real rewards, most of the time its a randomly generated equipment with star bonus
-Weak side quest, you will do a lot of 'clear the area' quest
-Most outfits are not aesthetically pleasing
-Perks have very little effect not really game changing except for a few
    -Lip-sync is not always right
    -Long and abundant loading screens
    -Crashes randomly
    -Ugly character Models

Aside from negatives the games also has some features that are redeeming:

-Living world, brotherhood of steel members can be seen fighting others on their own not because of scripted events.
    -Power Armour
    -Vertibirds
    -Well-crafted and designed world

Fallout 4 is good but not the game of year that one would expect it to be... Fallout 4 experiences crashes, lags, frame rate issues and long loading times that further worsens the enjoyment of a game with already no real freedom of choice, weak story and mindless quests. Its not terrible game but a so-so one, if you really love RPGs then you can give Fallout 4 a go.

After thousands of hours of previous Fallouts on PC I decided to give the console version of Fallout 4 a try. I'm impressed once again. The story is beautiful, well written and full of permanent choices that change the script dramatically, so you'll want to play this through a few times. Game mechanics simply work with a couple of exceptions:

    - Companions are bugging and disappearing

The major problem that lowers the grade to 8 (this would be a clear 10 otherwise) is the unbearable time that the engine takes to load the environment. Right now I'm at level 40, having progressed about half of the game so far. The loading screens with the standard 500GB HDD take about 3-5 mins each, lasting longer every level.

Overall, a very solid game. Probably gets the GOTY-award hands down.

Gameplay: Addictive. Lots of locations to explore, legendary creatures to find, collectables to loot and lots of things to craft. Combat mechanics have greatly been improved. Levelling system has been oversimplified, no weapon conditioning which drags the rating down. Alot of similarity to Fallout 3. 7/10

Control: Companion commands has some glaring problems. Rest of the game has some issues but overall controls have been greatly improved. 7/10

Framerate cap and bugs/glitches are exlcuded from this review, not significantly noticeable during gameplay, and bugs are rare from my experience. Would make final rating 7/10 if included.

    Final score: 7.6/10
    Rounded up to 8/10

Note: 10/10 doesn't mean perfection, it means a game is excellent but may some have bugs/glitches and a few negatives that don't significantly impact the game.

There's no info about the weight and the value of an item before picking it up, so how the **** would I know if i should pick it up? what were they thinking!!! The weapons have a very poor description and you have no clue how the weapon looks before equiping it. That's complete **** why they did that! There's no excuse to screwing up the game like that.
Another bad point is the enemy and friendly AI, I mean, the enemies behave very stupid sometimes and other times they behave like geniuses, they NEVER miss a ****ing bullet and they never run out of bullets! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!! some weapons like the Thompson are useless against normal enemies, you can hit an enemy with 50 bullets and he still alive! what the **** is that Bethesda! give me a ****ing break! The dog is useless most of the time, he can stand near an enemy and do nothing, what kind of help is that? I guess the devs were lazy and they just designed all the enemies the same and gave them infinite bullets, they all behave the same, they shoot thousand of bullets without running out, they take cover like **** and then they watch you and they get killed, they are THAT stupid. The world is poorly designed and the music is recycled from Fallout 3. There's no excuse to do that!
The inventory management is a complete joke, it's very confusing and hard to find simple items and weapons. The ammunition is scarce and that's not acceptable in a FPS game, I mean give me some ****ing bullets to kill enemies, without bullets I can't fight if i can't fight I am done. I go to the shop to buy ammo and weapons and the stupid person is not in the store so I can't buy ammo even when I have money! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!
I can still name lots of mistakes and issues in this game, poor frame rate, poor graphic details, poor storyline, and terrible AI. All together combined is very sad, because fallout 3 was very good as well as new vegas, this game is a complete joke and not worth buying not even renting. People still supporting this garbage and games are getting worse and worse each year. The upgrading system is very confusing and it's almost impossible to reach a full level in some perks. The voice acting is ridiculous and very boring. The combat system is unfair and stupid sometimes, a giant enemy that can't be killed but he still kill you with 1 single rock he throws at you. Some dogs can take 3 shotgun bullets to the head and still alive and fighting, there's no excuse for so many mistakes and a poorly designed game at the end is all that gamers have. Maybe if they spent more time in improving the game and not wasting time and money in selling those stupid items to the public (nuka cola quantum and pip boy) they made a terrible game in the end, shame on you Bethesda, you screwed up again.

This Fallout emphasises gameplay over story in its innovations. The gunplay has been significantly improved and the enemies are competent when their A.I isn't completely broken. (Please remember this is still a Bethesda game, so please expect some B.S to happen while playing.) Despite this new shift, the main story is still fascinating and the Commonwealth is a huge map filled with mysteries and interesting side stories to discover. Definately worth buying, especially since the upcoming DLC looks cool as hell.

But...... this game misses on its most important aspect, the roleplaying. Your actions don't really matter at all here, and the dialogue wheel and new dialogue system doesn't help one bit. You never feel like you're making your own story because truly you are not, thats basically 4 generic choices in every dialogue ( Yes, No, Info, Sacastic/funny joke ), and the worst is that you don't get those exclusive skill dialogues, only speech matter here. Other thing that bugs me alot is the complete removal of skills and the karma system, there is no level cap so eventually you will become god by unlocking all the perks. The other two weak points are the generic ''find your son'' story and the **** glitches. I'm not saying that the overall game is bad, it's just misse on alot of aspects that alot of people were looking for, it's pretty dissapointing that now that the shooting is finally good they **** it up on the RPG aspect, really a shame Expand

I have never played a fallout game before, but i had already played skyrim and i loved it! So i was expecting a game that would consume my life for thousands of hours as skyrim did. Did it live to the hype??

So what is good in fallout 4?
    - The gameplay is suberb, the weapons feel and look great!
-The crafting system is another good point, it is vast, every time that i upgraded my plasma rifle i felt like invencible.
    - The companions are really interesting! In skyrim e never had one becouse they lacked personality and emotions, in Fallout 4 that is different, each one of them as a unique personality!
    - The story for me was reaaally interesting and ****
-Each location on the map is different from the others, is unique, with very cool looting.
-The graphics (yes the graphics), for me the ambients were really well designed and the graphics overral were great.

    Now the bad points:
    - The companions al is horrible....they rarely are helpfull, don't try to sneak with them!
    - The voiced protagonist, for me it was one of the worst aspects of fallout 4, i don't like to have a voiced protagonist because i like to create an assassin/bad character and the voice of the sole survivor **** it up, it broke great part of the immersion that i was expecting for a game like this.
-The commonweath isn't very interesting, the commonwealth look always the same, there aren't any mountain areas, no swamps, no forests (ok thats because of the radiation that kills everything), it is just wasteland or the big boring city of boston (in the game of course).
-The factions, i didn't like the fact that the Bos or railroad questline was dependant of the progression in the main story, i prefered the skyrim way with independent guilds

Overall i really liked the game, however i was a bit letdown, it wasn't as immersive as skyrim was to me, but still it is a great game and i can't deny that i already spent 160 hours in it :)

Awesome, game in the Fallout tradition. Looking forward to the DLC as an addition to the game now fixes and unfinished pieces. New settlement mechanics is a very good new feature set that will be hopefully improved upon.

There are two ways to see this game:

I like this game for the "minecraft" side of the view, without this, it's a small fallout with nothing new.

The game is great but not a 10.

Although I loved my play through of the game the game did have some flaws. If you are into fallout games its definitely worth a play through. The good - Vats and gun play were spot on for me. - I enjoyed weapon crafting. - Wandering the map was a joy. - Plenty non main story events and areas to explore - Fast travel once an area is clear -

    The good
    - Vats and gun play were spot on for me.
    - I enjoyed weapon crafting.
    - Wandering the map was a joy.
    - Plenty non main story events and areas to explore
    - Fast travel once an area is clear
    - Leveling up your character
    - You can play with or without the companion.

    The Bad
    - The story had potential but felt scattered and watered down.
    - Leveling up was simplified and did not feel as important as i would like.
    - The companions made sneaking impossible. I stopped using them the moment i figured out how.
    - Building a town felt pointless
    - Companions are indestructible.
    - Conversations were dull with a yes, no, maybe, i don't know format.
    - Game was very easy. I used the power armor only a few times. I even put in on survival mode
    - No replay value

This game is a good one, but to be honest here, some enemies have overpowered weapons, some enemies take too long to kill, the aiming is decent to a certain extent, but if you're one for panicking or hesitating this game is probably not for you, the only reason really it deserves this 8/10 is because the customization of your dweller is crazy, and it gives you the option of either doingThis game is a good one, but to be honest here, some enemies have overpowered weapons, some enemies take too long to kill, the aiming is decent to a certain extent, but if you're one for panicking or hesitating this game is probably not for you, the only reason really it deserves this 8/10 is because the customization of your dweller is crazy, and it gives you the option of either doing the story or making the sandbox element come to life by wandering the land and doing whatever you wanna do Expand

A strong return for the franchise, boasting incredible customisation, a fascinating world and brutal yet brainy shooting, slightly tarnished by lacklustre AI and tedious inventory management. [Christmas 2015, p.88]

Feral Ghoul ugly in many ways, but beneath its iffy exterior beats the heart of one helluva great RPG. Get past the graphics deficiency, and the sheer thrill of Fallout 4’s combat, crafting options, and exploring will hold your attention for months. [January 2015, p64]

Fallout 4 leans to the Shooting side of things. It strips down the gameplay from the actual RPG elements and offers a meta-nuclaer shooting gallery which of course keep its charm and gameplay wealth but also feels a little too friendly for the new comers. The Base builder mode is unnecessary, boring and irritating. Unfortunately, overall, there are no steps forward for this Nuclear Holocaust Behemoth of the video games industry. Only steps sideways.
