I just do not get it...How do people complain about being"lied" to by the developer? This game is literally (I literally mean literally)everything they advertised and based on how it was done I am not surprised by anything I have seen. I honestly feel this was one of the more honest marketing campaigns out the(witcher/batman/Hell even fallout 3 and skyrim come to mind).

Graphics considering the world and the systems behind it are perfectly wonderful in their own right..
    Really like new Perk system
    Crafting is awesome
    Settlements is a fun distraction

Voice hero and dialouge issues/lack of choice Is my biggest complaint.
Story hasn't really hooked me(neither did main quest fallout 3,NV,Skyrim)

Lastly, It's just really fun to play and explore and I am a loot whore so there is that....

Apparently people have forgotten just exactly what a good game is. Sure I have seen some of the games early bugs, and sure I have some concerns. This game is light years ahead of FO3 and FO:NV. I think people are throwing this game down because (just like Destiny) the people overhyped the **** out of this game. A pure disappointment on the gamers, but a job well done by Bethesda with their solid work on this game. Expand

I don't know why the metacritic users are trolling the living hell out of this game, so disregard the incessant whining. (Graphics aren't photorealistic, there's not enough NPC emotion, wah wah wah). Listen to the real critics. It's obvious that Bethesda has learned from their mistakes of the past, and succeeded in creating a beautiful gem of a game yet again.

It's obvious that Bethesda has learned from their mistakes of the past, and succeeded in creating a beautiful gem of a game yet again.

I had exceedingly high expectations for Fallout 4 and have been a long time fan of the series since the original Fallout (ah, the sweet late 90's), and Bethesda has obviously put their heart and soul into this game.

The combat system has been greatly improved, with more fluid movement and the ability to create a "favorites menu" to readily access an arsenal of weapons while in-combat.
The main storyline isn't super intriguing, but the sheer beauty and vastness of all the side quests and various things to loot, fight, and explore in the wasteland quickly makes up for it.

I LOVE the crafting system, allowing players to scavenge scrap material while out in the Commonwealth and turn that crappy 10 damage pistol into a brute to be reckoned with. This allows the player a little more freedom (it's about time!) since you don't have to solely rely on weapon drops to get a decent gun anymore.
The ability to build/customize your own home in Sanctuary Hills sucked up a solid 6 hours of my time so far as well.
That, and there's nothing more satisfying than mowing down a pack of Super Mutants with a minigun with PS4 graphics.

The places you get to explore and loot in post-apocalyptic Massachusetts, and all the people you meet along the way truly make this game shine as an RPG, and I hope people read some real reviews and don't listen to the losers whining about graphics.
This game is well worth $60 and you're guaranteed to have a raging good time.
    See you in the Commonwealth!

Okay, so now I've poured roughly 50 hours into this and finished the main story arc I feel inclined to leave a little review. Personally, I loved it.... it isn't perfect by any means; I could pick it apart all day moaning about poor lip synching, tired animations, ancient engine etc but the bottom line is, I had so much fun playing this game I find it hard to score less than a 9. Personally, I loved it.... it isn't perfect by any means; I could pick it apart all day moaning about poor lip synching, tired animations, ancient engine etc but the bottom line is, I had so much fun playing this game I find it hard to score less than a 9. It's still that same Fallout world we know and love.

    Pros:
-not including fallout 1&2, this is by far the most stable Fallout in terms of performance I've ever played on release. In 50 hours, I haven't suffered a single crash and the only glaring bug I've seen is the dialogue freezing up for a few seconds mid-conversation occasionally. Rarely any frame rate drops either. I think Bethesda have done a fantastic job testing their game before shipping.
-great looting system... Huge improvement on previous Fallouts with a neat tagging system as well if you're looking for particular components
-gunplay is as smooth and solid as it's ever been. Loving the new VATS too
-didn't think I would like the new levelling system... In fact I was almost certain I was going to hate it. I shouldn't have worried... It's great and you feel like you're still making real progress many hours into the game.
-I liked the way the story was delivered... Bethesda seem to be masters at giving you the bare bones of a plot and still leaving it compelling enough to follow up while at the same time giving you numerous options and paths to go down.
-love the new crafting/modding system and the settlement building is very well implemented but by no means essential if you're not interested in the whole DIY thing
-the atmosphere, art direction and lore are as great as they've ever been. I found myself totally immersed in the game.
-I honestly could go on and on about the things I loved here but I don't have much space and people are likely never going to read this anyway so I'll just mention a few of the bigger negatives before I go lol

    Cons:
-old game engine... While I personally still think the game still looks fantastic, that's more down to the art direction and design than it is to actual graphical fidelity. I do think it's about time they replaced this. It will be disappointing if we see it again in the next elder scrolls or fallout.
-no weapon condition. One of the few features I actually missed from previous games... It's meant to be a broken world with broken stuff in it and I miss the feeling of finding awesome-but-broken weapons to fix. A shame bcos it would have fit into the new crafting system easily too. I mean u can repair power armour so why not weapons too?
-not a huge fan of the new dialogue system but it is functional enough I guess. I understand the difficulties with having a voiced protagonist etc but I feel we lost more than we gained here
-inconsistent enemy AI seems to vary from fantastic to ****
-that's all I can really think of negative-wise that is of any significance... Sure there's a few nitpick issues here and there like animations etc but nothing that I felt really impacted the experience.

TLDR; A fine instalment in the series that tries a few new things while ditching a few old ones, but still stays true to what makes Fallout as great a series as it is. Highly recommended for old fans as well as newcomers.

Fantastic game with a bit better combat than Fallout 3 and Vegas, still pretty bad though.

If you can see past that and learn how to mix live combat with VATS then you have the best open world game yet. This is bigger and more handsome than any other Bethesda game, even Skyrim. You simple can not go to bed or not go to that building, because what if there is a unique weapon in there?

Quests and the fallout world in general keep you well immersed. Random encounters, a compelling storyline, fun side quests, and unique but subtle ways to approach missions really pull the player into this game.

However, some serious issues have to be mentioned. These issues stop the game from getting a 10/10 or 9/10 because its more than what we should expect from such a huge game in 2015. Especially since its been close to 7 years since the last fall out. Shocking to hear some critic reviews online saying this is a perfect game that has been well polished, because that simply isnt true. Yes i think the game is a ton of fun and worth playing, but there are some glaring issues which stand out which make it feel like a PS3 game rather than next gen. Below, is a list of the good and bad.

    1. AI is really stupid. Just choose a good choke point, fire and watch them call come running to you to get mowed down.
    2. Combat feels a but clunky, especially so for melee combat.
    3. Voice acting for super mutants could have been done better. Sounds contrived.
    4. Characters speak over each other, so you some times miss out on conversations.
    5. You have to stand directly opposite a character to hear them properly. Especially annoying if your on a mission with a story character and you cant hear their story because you are following them. This issue is just inexcusable.
    6. Building settlements function is a little frustrating. Not much direction on how to do it, so you have to resort to google or trial and error.
    7. Graphics arent bad, but make it as if your playing fallout 3.5 rather than fallout 4.

    The good:

    1. Compelling storyline.
    2. Super Immersive environment which is obvious a lot of thought has gone into.
    3. Finally picking up junk matters because junk can be broken down into special components required for crafting.
    4. A unique and vast crafting system which is complimented by the environment and your scavenging kills which for once doesnt feel over tedious.
    5. Getting power armour early in the game, and the ability to craft unique mods for it. Left me tweaking it whenever i could, but not being able to use the OP item all the time since you need special fusion cores to run it. Tweaking it felt like owning a classic car which you kinda kept in the garage only to use on special occasions.
    6. The deep and interesting lore, characters, environment, theme of the fallout world, which really makes you feel part of the game.
    7. The random encounters with varied characters and locations.
    8. The vast amount of unique side quests available. The map may not be the largest in the gaming world, but it feels as if every corner of every location has a story and side quests are fun enough to keep me side tracked.
    9. A story line that doesnt care too much about your character level. (I.e. doing too many side quests and being OP for early quests)
    10. Unique way to approach some missions. You can be a strong character and bust in killing everything, or have you might come across a robot on the mission and reprogram it to do the killing for you. I love how there are those kinda surprises placed in missions.
    11. The character stats and wide variety of perks available make for interesting character builds depending on how you want to play. Something about it makes it feel that character development stays true to RPGs of the past.

I am fairly enjoying this game the 10-15 hours I have spend on it, minor issues that can be avoided if you use quick save regularly.

What bothers me the most is the lack of understanding the game gives when you are building stuff with your ps4 controller. The view you get when building stuff is terrible, its very hard to place the walls, stairs, fences etc like you want to place them. I

I think they should have build some kind of building mode to make this less annoying or allow you to zoom more out with more rotation possibilities of objects. The other thing that I think they didn't think about is structural engineering, it´s not complicated that floors and roof need structural stability so I ended up building something that does not apply to the law of physics. Pretty unrealistic and boring something that could have been pretty cool and fun.

    Just my fifty cents.

FO4 tells its story(ies) in a different manner and if you can't appreciate it or right out can't get it, you should not play it. The cinema in your head is always required in FO4 so you can make up the story the environment tells you and this is exactly what I personally are looking for. I'm over saturated with Hollywood style staging ala Bioware and want my own thought to roam free as my character does in a sandbox. The other point is regarding the graphic issues some report or the right out "ugliness"... I think you just got spoiled by Skyrim's modding community which enhanced it so much its probably looking 10 times better then FO4 right now on some systems, however to have a clear view on it and its improvements, please install it in vanilla state and check it out again (same goes for FO3/FO NV) and you will see that there were much improvements. And for the people stating the game is not running smoothly, my system is not high end by any means anymore (it was 5 years ago) FO automatically set it to ultra settings and its running smoother then my modded Skyrim (250+ mods). before spreading hate, please check if you fulfil the minimum/recommended requirements and also make sure you are running latest drivers/FW on your system. An SSD would also help great times probably.

I dunno know what's the fuzz about, why all you people are raging like hell. Maybe you are abit overhyped or something? I think the game is great, sure i can agree that there's alot of flaws but the core of the fun gameplay and exploration is still there.

I've been reading some reviews before i decided to buy it and i'll say it to you guys out there too:
You should decide on your own if you wanna buy/rent the game and not trust these guys over here.
Mostly it's overhyped kids who got let down or it's overhyped fanboys who scores 10 over anything so you cant basically trust anyone here on metacritic lol. I'll share my opinion:

Story: It's a bit cheesy, coming from Bethesda - i wouldnt expect this. I just get this EA Bioware a'la Dragon Age feeling from it. I actually cringed in the start when i started the game cause some of the lines were abit embarrassing coming from this company. The start of the game feels abit rushed, i didnt have time to do anything until everything happend. I feel that they could been more patient with everything there.
The story works, but it's nothing special.

Graphics: Im playing on PS4 and yes, it isnt great. It isnt. But it depends on yourself, do you feel that graphics > gameplay + content? I dont. For me, the graphics works but arent special.
I wouldnt say that it's like Skyrim, but its more like The Last of Us remastered(without the 60fps lol).
Im satisfied on it overall, that's not important for me.
For me, Bethesda always been content over graphics and this arent any big news.
They always deliver bad graphics in my opinion.

Gameplay: This is where the game shines, guns sounds majestic, music is overall top notch. (srsly good music in this game, gives me the shivers) VAT system works fine and companions is overall fun to hang with and explore their own world too. Melee is abit boring, i didnt find myself actually interested in it, it works but it's kinda "meh". Most enemies has ranged weapons so it feels kinda useless.

And yes, the speech dialogue is pretty bad. For me, it isnt gamechanging, just boring tbh. It feels dumbed-down and i agree with most of the people here. That's a down part.
The UI of the menu is TERRIBLE. My god. I dont wanna complain but it's so freaking small and unpractical that i just gets frustratred everytime i open the Pip-boy. I have a big widescreen TV and still having problem with that. (They should've just made the menu full screen when you use the pipboy.)

Character progress: I got abit dissapointed here. Everything you do in this game is dosent feel like it's important. I got abit sad that you cant actually level up "Chemistry" or "Cooking". You just starts with knowing every cooked meal and potions. So it's not like you can learn recipes or anything like that.
That was a bad choice since i like to progress and work my way up to side-professions.

Level Perk: It was fine, abit boring but i found myself having several stuff useful. I would love to actually have points to spend on S.P.E.C.I.A.L instead of just getting auto-lvled. (*cough* Diablo 3 *cough*)

Companions can be abit annoying sometimes, aggroing people when im trying to avoid combat.

Other then that, im satisfied with the game. It has bugs and flaws indeed, i wont disagree with some of the negative reviews here - But for me, the content in this game lifts everything up so much that i dont care actually. I found myself more interested in Boston and sidequests then actually doing the main quest.

The world is really fun to explore and for me, this is the kind of a game that gets you lost for several hours and you havent even done the first main quest. That's the part i love about Bethesda's game.
I had fun the whole time and when the bugs/glitches came, i just laughed about it.

If your having doubts about this game, i recommend that you atleast rent it, or buy it and return it within 30 days. Either way if your buying it or not, i think you should try it on your own before reading all this ranging/praising fanboys.

TL;DR: The game is fine, GOTY? I doubt. But it's a Bethesda game with ALOT of exploration and fun gameplay.
Bugs and Glitches? Bad Graphics? yes. It all depends on what you feel is most important.
Buy/rent the game and decide for yourself if you wanna buy it for full price or not. This place is filled with fanboys or raging kids. It's either a 10 or a 0. Grow up people.

    For me, it's a weak 9.

It is nothing revolutionary but if you loved FO3/FO:NV then this is a perfect next step in the series. The exploration and world is top notch as always, best of any game Ive ever played. It also has new weapon/armor mods and the settlement building system, which I enjoy very much. As a person with slight OCD, just building the settlement and scrapping materials has kept me enthralled for several hours and Ive barely scratched the surface of the systems.

I will say this is not a game for everyone, if you are from the CoD set and love tons of action and multiplayer death match, than this is not the game for you. If you love exploration and being a total completionist but hate hours and hours of repetitive action with no depth, than you will have a hard time finding a better game than FO4.

Guys from Bethesda did overall a good game by adding batter graphics, weapon physics they thought: " Why the game must be overall new, were instead you can make a very BIG UPDATE to the old BUT already perfect Fallout 3."

I think the right way to enjoy Fallout 4. As the modern Fallout 3.

P.S Only one issue I had that some times the FPS drops to 15. But only in moments when a lot action is happening on screen.

The new game play additions were good ideas in concept, but poor in execution. This is probably because what they introduced clashes horribly with the game play that made Fallouts 3 and New Vegas masterpieces. For example, you now have the ability to aim down the sights of your gun. I can understand why Bethesda would choose to do this (for the purpose of modernizing the franchise), but it negates the need for V.A.T.S. Throughout the main campaign, especially near the beginning, simply aiming down the barrel of your gun is more accurate than using V.A.T.S. I find this to be a disservice to avid Fallout fans because the cutting edge game play that defined the last gen Fallout games is being thrown out and replaced with CoD controls. But this is only where the problems begin. Somehow, the dialogue in this game is substantially worse than Fallout 3. I mean this in an objective way, the dialogue seems more robotic and less-natural. It is only made worse by the substandard performances of the voice actors and the awful lip sync. To be fair, the voice acting in the previous two Fallouts was nothing to gawk at, but the fact that the dialogue is better nearly makes up for this. I also don't like how there are voice overs for the protagonist. The decision to include verbal dialogue ruined the illusion that I was the lone wanderer in the wasteland. There is a reason why Link has no dialogue in the Legend of Zelda. There is also a new running mechanic in the game. Like aiming down the sights, this was a nice idea in concept, but done badly. The newfound ability to run make traversing the wasteland quicker and less tedious. However, running diminishes your AP levels faster than you can say "Fallout 4 is a disappointment!" Normally this isn't an issue, but it is kind of one in combat. Imagine your running around the battlefield, trying to avoid getting shot and you see an enemy. Instinctually, you slow down time with V.A.T.S., and attempt to gun down your enemy. There's just one problem; you can't. You don't have enough AP because you were just sprinting around. Your only choice now is to exit V.A.T.S. and get shot in the face. Oh, but I can hear the naysayers now. "This isn't a problem because you don't use V.A.T.S.!" Well, I did say kind of an issue. Finally, I have mixed feelings regarding the dog. Now don't get me wrong, I love dogs, but I don't believe having a dog as a companion in a Fallout game is a good idea because it detracts from the lonely, helpless feeling the Fallout games are famous for. Like I remember when I first exited vault 101 in Fallout 3. My initial reaction was "wow, the world kind of sucks now," but as I ventured forth into the waste land I felt dreaded, alone, and a little uncomfortable. And this is one of Fallout 3's greatest strengths; tone. But in Fallout 4, you leave vault 111 and immediately get a dog, a companion, a character that rids the narrative of any sense of isolation. Now this is not to say that companionship in games is bad, because it isn't. Games like The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite have proven this, but neither of those games are Fallout. To conclude, Fallout 4 is very much the Skyward Sword of the Fallout franchise; it's good in it's own right, but a terrible entry in their respective series'. Personally, I believe everyone would enjoy this game loads more if they pretended it were a new IP, Borderlands, or something like that. But at the same time, no player should have to do that to enjoy a game, which is why I'm giving this game a 7/10 along with every other reason I explained in this review.

Companions do not die and can hold a decent amount of loot.
    Customization is hilarious.

    Cons:
The crashing - this game crashes a fair amount, not a problem if you quick save a lot.
Fair share of bugs (Bethesda game, new release)
Companions can block you, but this can be avoided with commands.
Sneak doesn't seem to work very well at times.
Choice dialogue is lacking due to it being fully voiced. (could be a pro)

I have about 10 hours logged into the game so far and it is very hard to stop playing.

I was skeptical before buying this game because of a lot of negative reviews (also, not being a fan of Skyrim) but most of them are biased towards the graphics. Who cares? I don't buy Bethesda games for graphics (or console games for that matter) I buy them for gameplay and this game is fun as hell.

Perks still exist and the developers have increased the level cap in order to compensate for the lack of SPECIAL points. Speech options are understandably limited due to the Mass Effect-esque conversation wheel, but voice acting is well done despite the lip syncing issues. The biggest thing I've seen is Bethesda's clear focus on the modding community of the previous two games. A lot of the crafting, settlements, weather, and color pallet mods were quite popular and Bethesda took notice. I've been having a lot of fun with the game and expect to continue playing for the next few months. To those reviewers that are stating problems that were present in the last two games as if they are new, or state that NV is the standard you're rating this game on then I wold strongly suggest playing the games side by side and reconsidering your opinion. Would have been an 8 or 9, but the sub par graphics combined with some horrific loading times and watered down npc conversations = 6.

The building aspect while entertaining for an hour or so, is too buggy, feels rushed and shoehorned into the game. It also takes far too long to grind out scrap to build a mega base.. It should be fun not a chore.

Story:The story is not that great but is not that bad ether. The stars of the game is epic but the ending of the game could be so much better but your choices have almost no impact in the game.

Graphics: The graphics are not that good for this generation and Bethesda should really use a new engine on the next game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's start with the bad yes we all know the graphics appears to be not really better than the last time we played Fallout 3 years ago, this is astonishing considering the likes of other open world sand box games like Destiny! Bethesda really needs to put to use Id Software talents here for their next instalment.

The good the game is great and adds a few new bells and whistles like town management and crafting. Though this is not required it can be a nice diversion between quests.

The other honourable mention is the stability it has not crashed once and to me and this company that is a set forward. So far no really annoying bugs.

Bethesda needs to look at games like the new Star Wars and an older Destiny which are a higher caliber of finish and polish in the graphics department after all we are in the next gen of games, or did they not know that??

9/10 for the sheer excitement and playability of the game, easily could of had 9.7 for better graphics!

The graphics, although much better than F3s, weren't as good as you would expect with a next gen game however this is not a major problem and can either be solved through mods or simply getting used to it. My major issue that holds it back is that the overall feel of the game is just very similar to fallout 3; the saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" is true but innovation is also important.

Overall i would say that this is definitely worth buying if you enjoyed/loved/liked the previous fallouts including Obsidian's FNV and to any gamers who liked RPGs in general because it's a great game. Just don't expect something like the jump from MGS4 to 5.

This game could have easily been my Game of the Year, but it didn't feel like enough of a push forward to me mind-blowing. Don't get me wrong, this is probably still my favorite game I have played so far, but I felt a lot more into the world of New Vegas than I did in the Commonwealth. It still achieved everything we love about Fallout games; endless quests, huge open world, fun and exciting characters, etc, and even added new game experiences with the base building and character creation, but the few things they did not accomplish made it feel almost like a re-tread. I am not sure it is fair to come down on the game for it, but it was such a lasting feeling after playing this game that I can't give it a higher score, even though it accomplished so much. Hype may have hurt this game.

The decisions you make in the game don't feel as though they make as much of a difference as they used to. I remember in past Fallout games when you aligned with certain groups it drastically affected your relationship with different groups, so much so that when you approached them they would just automatically attack you. With this game however you are allowed to stay with almost all the factions at once for so long that you don't feel like you are making a huge mark on the dynamics of the world. I liked this because I was allowed to play a lot more quests and didn't have to go back and re-play as much, but that isn't really what I was looking for.

I feel like the game hands you companions a little too much, making you never feel that lonely wanderer-type game we had in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. You get Dogmeat right away in the game, which is fine, but he is handed to you. I liked having to just come across these people and after doing quests you could potentially have them as a companion. I found my self having the option of choosing between a good handful of companions after a very short time while following the main quest line. It is nice to have the companion, as I use them as a pack mule, but it felt earned in previous Fallout titles.

The new base-building mechanic is a TON of fun. I was able to get very creative with making these highly defendable locations, and making them fun little havens for my Settlers. I found myself spending several hours just putting time into making my bases. Definitely a mechanic they need to continue.

The new crafting system is simply perfect. I spent time going out randomly into the world to seek out materials to be able to fully upgrade all my weapons, which aided in my discovery of the world. I found myself in previous Fallout games finding several locations and then just fast traveling around for the rest of the game, whereas in Fallout 4 I don't want to fast travel as much so I can get all the materials I can, which means I also find more quests and the quirky things throughout the Commonwealth.

In closing, Fallout 4 is another stepping stone in the great Bethesda open world RPG line-up, but I think they could use something else in future Fallout titles. They reiterated everything good about the older titles, and if you enjoyed Fallout 3 and New Vegas I guarantee you will enjoy this one, but I warn you that you may feel a wanting for more as I did.

I have been a fan of the Fallout series since the release of the first game. So I had very high expectations going in. Did it deliver? For the most part. FO4 is as good as I had hoped it would be, however, it has some glaring flaws.

    The negative:
    - First and foremost, the game engine. It is clearly past its prime and we've seen it far too much now. Don't get me wrong Bethesda did try to spice things up a bit and did the best they could with it. It's still a fun game engine. Just far, far too familiar at this point.
    - Diverse dialogue, or lack thereof. The dialogue wheel is really far too basic and is mostly filled with different ways of saying the same thing. It kinda limits the immersion at times and feels almost lazy.
    - The settlement system. While this was a good idea, aside from trophies and the few related story missions, it serves little purpose and is really nothing more than a distraction. It would have been nice if they had made it so you could completely clear settlements of all debris (I know there is a mod on PC that allows this.) Limited landscaping might have been nice too. All in all this feature felt a bit incomplete. With some tweaking it could be some thing great.
    - Ending(s.) Where are they? Every Fallout game's epilogue gave you a breakdown of what happen to all the key areas/factions, kinda making you feel your actions made a difference. FO4 has kinda done the ME3 ending thing. A few slight variations of the same thing. Kinda lazy when you have just spent +100 hours on the game.
    - Soundtrack. It's mostly the exact same music from the previous FO games. The 50s did produce more than ten songs you know. Also hard to believe that no one in the wasteland is composing original work.
    - Character models. Bethesda, yo people is uglee. Seriously, it's the PS4 yet the people look very plasticee.
    - Recycled background banter from unnamed NPC fluff characters. OMG, they keep repeating the same dialogue over and over. It is so irritating. Same goes for banter from raiders. Funny how all these different raiders in different locations have the exact conversations.
    - Sex and nudity. Seriously, FO4 was rated M in the US and 18 in the UK. There is plenty of violence, language and drug use. Yet for whatever reason everyone in the apocalyptical wasteland is chaste as an after school special. Take a page from the Witcher games, if you're going to make a game for adults, then treat them like adults. FONV at least tried in this regard. It still amazes me that this puritanical approach still exists in this day and age.

    The positive:
+ The Commonwealth. At first glance it come across as small. But you quickly notice that it is overflowing with locations.
+ Boston and the rest of the Commonwealth is beautiful. When compared to FO3 and FONV, FO4 is just visually stunning and so much more attention to detail. Every location feels like it was given a personal touch.
+ Quests galore. There is just so, so much to do in this game. A ton of well written content. I do feel that the main quest lines do get pushed to the side to easily and could have been given a bit more of a sense of urgency, but this is not a negative thing, just a result of the overabundance of side content.
+ Companions. So many to choose from, and they're all pretty fun to play with. A shame the aggression setting from NV is no longer there. Companions do make it a little hard to play a stealthy approach. But once you have the best gear, that approach kinda gets redundant.
+ Crafting. The weapon crafting system is awesome.A shame that armor crafting didn't really get as much variety.
+ Story. Just a great story with a ton of new lore to keep things interesting.
+ Voice acting. Just fantastic all around from all involved.

    Overall:
For all my gripes, I still loved the game. With a bit more polish and effort Bethesda could make something far greater than they already have.

I know a lot of people were frustrated that the game was dumbed down in order to become more appealing to casual gamers, and although that is a shame, it's no reason to downrate the game into the negatives, purely based on being let down according to your expectactions. Short version: If you like Fallout let's face it you already bought this and are likely enjoying it but otherwise skip it and grab Metal Gear or Witcher if you're a fan of open world games.

I've played this for a few weeks now and feel that I will more than get my money's worth in terms of entertainment value. Although the main story line feels quite short there a numerous side quests and, what I think, is a great base building system. That's not to say there are not numerous things I found quite frustrating.

Graphics: I agree that this game is ugly. There are mods for Fallout 3 that make it look so much nicer than Fallout 4. However, that isn't what bothers me graphics wise (I really don't mind ugly if it works well and is fast). What annoyed me more were the bugs. Lots of times the textures didn't load. Walking into Diamond city for the first time and seeing it bright pink takes something away from the game for me. Also the clipping is terrible. I had to stop using Dogmeat just because having him clipped into a staircase grated away at me.

Sound: I didn't like the voice acting of the male protagonist - except when he is sarcastic. Though I did like many of the other characters - such as Nick. Sound effects, music and radio were all great. Loved the diamond city play list and the DJ is much less annoying than Three Dog.

Gameplay: I am clearly in a minatory but I didn't mind the new speech options. The sarcastic button is great. Once again the bugs really ruined a lot of this for me. It is not that any of them are game breaking but together it is just a pain. For example numerous times I found elevators to just hang for 10-15 seconds or following NPCs out of doors always seemed troublesome. Not sure about other versions but on the PS4 I hate the load times. I found myself unwilling to explore as much because entering a tiny house, taking their stuff, and leaving exposed me to 40 seconds of loading. I guess Dimond City is the best (or worst) example of this. Each little building, shop, etc taking ages to load. The base building I have really enjoyed. I have spent hours just looking for that extra bit of oil or some copper to build X, Y and Z. It isn't really an intuitive system but it forced me to play around more than I might have otherwise. Perhaps an optional tutorial might have been nice but YouTube saved me there.

Story: I don't like it. I liked it more than a many open world games but I think it lacks the shine of the Fallout 1/2 era and even feels like a step back from Fallout 3/NV era. Although an effort was made to humanise the two more authoritarian factions I still think it missed an opportunity to show the moral complexities of a destroyed world that has recently been done so well in The Last of Us.

Summary: My first PS4 open world game was Dragon Age. I don't think Fallout 4 is as polished as that but I very much prefer the setting in Fallout 4. I got a good deal with fallout in terms of money vs game play time but am still upset that it still feels like a beta version of what will be a great game if it was in development for 6 more months.

The story is starts slow but grows in entertainment with some very memorable quests, this is the first Bethesda game in my opinion with an interesting "bad guy" (the Enclave was boring). The endings leave something to be desired with very few alternatives. The side quests are few in number yet most are very interesting and unique. Fallout 4's main strengths however are its world and its game play with a great crafting system, unique enemies, and a variety of cool weapons. The companions in Fallout 4 although not very useful are interesting, some offer some of the best quests and backstory in the game. My one major problem with Fallout 4 is the dialogue system I miss New Vegas with its silent protagonist and multitude of choices in the iconic Fallout style. Bethesda made a huge blunder with a voiced protagonist because each quest requires far more work accounting for the shortage in the main game as of now. If Bethesda had left this feature out perhaps they could have used their time to add in more side factions like in New Vegas where some groups like the Boomers or Khans were not essential for an ending. These down sides did not effect my enjoyment in the game and though I do hope future DLC will give the game a fuller feel I would recommend this game to everyone. Expand

The dialogue choices are atrocious, and no matter what answer you choose to most questions it does not matter as the game will pretty much put you where you need to be.

Character customization is brilliant, and the graphics within post-apocalypse Boston are fantastic. But that is what we've come to expect from next-generation consoles, what matters here is the game. The workbenches to enhance your weapons and armour are great additions, and the fact that this gives junk a purpose in the game as you can use junk when enhancing weapons and armour is a very clever prospect. The settlement building is okay, but I'm sure people did not buy this game to play a budget version of The Sims.

Apart from all of this, Fallout 4 does not improve on anything Fallout 3 had to offer, and in some aspects even regressed rather than progressed. It is not a bad game, not by any stretch of the imagination, just highly disappointing.

The plot is standard for a fallout game , you need to go get 'something' which leads you to getting involved in a broader conflict. In fo1 it was the water chip, in FO3 it was your father, in fonv it was the Platinum Chip. Now it is your son.

The plot is rather strong, with 4 factions. 3 of them are interesting, but one of them falls a small bit short , but they are still solid and don't do much to take away from the overall experience, You will find yourself doing all sorts of quests through the ruins of the commonwealth .

The background lore and sidequests are fantastic, on paper there is not THAT much more sidequests than in fo3 , but in reality they are VERY long and exciting. You will often find yourself spending well over an hour in a sidequest. And bringing you to locations packed with great lore that makes sense.

Gameplay is amazing , the gunplay feels like Destiny which in fact they modelled it after. And you now have the ability to sprint which was missing from all 3d fallouts. Enemies are generaly tough but not bullet sponges and there is many different enemy types and subtypes , Such as Super Mutants,Mirelurks,Molerats,Stingwings,Protectrons,Sentry Bots etc. And there is also a solid settlement mode and a solid crafting mode.

The graphics and sound are also VERY VERY good, fallout has never looked as good and certainly not sounded as good. Every weapon has a different sound and changes according to attachment and enemies shrieks are stunning. It's obvious they put a lot of effort in to voice acting and hand and face gestures because this really stands out. The lighting and textures look 'good' , realistically it's not the most beautiful game in the world. But it certainly is one of the most beautiful open world rpg's.

Second, it's Fallout - it's always going to be fun for the people that love Fallout. The things that are nice in 4 is the small push for cooperative play and more customizations to be had in-game (be that a self-made town, weapon, etc.). The opportunities for growth remain the same: the graphics are nowhere near class-leading and there can be some bugs here and there that will irk you a bit. I still adore this game and the franchise as a whole. The Xbox One version comes with Fallout 3 as well (courtesy of backwards compatibility), so there's a much bigger value there for newcomers or those of us that like to retreat history. But for Fallout, the only way to make the game feel bigger/better is continued excellence of storytelling on top of a more immersive world, which is hard to do when you're making sacrifice after sacrifice for graphics. Bethesda really need to retool their graphics engine to really bring these wastelands to life. I mean, I can definitely deal with them as-is, but I think about what could be and I know that there are opportunities to make Fallout a perfect 10 game from nearly every perspective, but it's not quite there yet. The game is absolutely worth buying, though, and I'll probably re-tweak this review once I've spent more time with it and have completed the entire story. Expand

Combat has significantly improved over FO3 and NV, which both felt clunky to me. I was not expecting much in the graphics department per Bethesda's explanation, but I was pleasantly surprised there as well. The weather effects are the best I've seen this generation.

Fallout 4 does streamline the process a bit which seems to have angered a large number of "loyal" fans. I enjoy the direction Bethesda has taken; to me it feels like less janky version of FO3. Please check other websites reviews before buying like Steam which gives this a 9/10

A PC port lacking fundamental options (I had to edit 2 separate .ini files to change the FOV and turn off Mouse Acceleration), a UI optimized for consoles, and a LOT of bugs all try desperately to make it so you won't have a good time. In my first 6 hours of play, I lost at least an hour of progress due to a mixture of bugs that locked up the game (always quicksave before using a terminal), and a horribly sporadic autosaving system. Additionally, the movement feels extremely dated. The AP you use to activate VATS also serves as a stamina meter that you use up while running (a la Skyrim). That's right, a stamina meter that gates how long you can run, in an open world game where 90% of your time is going to be spent running. I didn't like the mechanic in Skyrim, and I like it even less now.

But despite all of that, I find myself about 10 hours in, and wanting to play more of it, once I finish writting this review. The fundamental exploration is solid, the crafting system is interesting, and actually gives me a justification to pick up literally everything I possibly can, and the settlement system seems to have a decent amount of potential. The shooting is actually serviceable, compared to Fallout 3, but you'll still likely find yourself going into VATS on certain enemies with erratic movement patterns to try and conserve ammo.

Basically, I think that if you didn't like Fallout 3, there's almost no way you'll like Fallout 4. If you wanted to like Fallout 3, but couldn't because of the shooting mechanics/VATS, then you'll probably have a good time here. If you loved Fallout 3, and want more, then this is the game for you, but just know what you're getting yourself into. This is not a perfect game, or even a fantastic game in the year 2015, despite what many reviewers have said. Go back to 2011 or 2008, and my opinion would likely be different, but in 2015 I think this is a really solid exploration FPS/RPG with a lot of problems. If you're on the fence about this game, then don't get it now. I don't think I'd have a hard time recommending the game for $40, but $60 is just a bit steep (imo) for how many problems it has.

-Improvements (some were not in my liking, like VATS wont pause time, but still lots of improvements)
    -Perk-tree is big and vast
-Side-mission and LOTS of them. With them this game lasts for hundreds of hours.
    -Music!!!

    Cons:
    -Dialogue is dummed down
    -Text is lagging and buggy
-Some fps failures (in my ps4 its like every 3h fps drops very low for few seconds)
-Story was ok but I was looking for more
-I see no point in building. Its ok to be there but it wont reward player
-Some parts for guns are SO much tougher to fin than others
-Map which I hoped to be bigger
-Various bugs and glitches here and there. (the damn dialogue just wont work properly)

    Neutrals:
-This game is harder than previous fallouts
-Graphics. It goes, nothing special. Its better then last gen but not the sharpest in the pack of ps4 games
-Athmosphere, mostly dull but in some cases like storms its super

    Conclusion:
Must buy to all any RPG players. Wont get more worth of your money than this. If someone says this game is **** they havent played it and just hates this thats better then they.

The leveling system has improved drastically, as their is no level cap and the perk system has a new style. In the older games, weapon customization wasn't exactly a huge part of the game, but in Fallout 4, that is one of the main components. The crafting system is easy to use and gives you a sense of individuality when you name your own weapon and make it your own. Building settlements is really fun, but sometimes it can be a little buggy. As for the mood and atmosphere, it replicates Fallout 3's and makes this game have the same classic Bethesda style. With a Bethesda game, bugs are to be expected, but in this game, I have encountered little to none other than some speech glitches and one weird glitch where I launched into the sky and died. There are plenty of missions to do and things to explore. I have no idea why anybody would hate this game. It's **** amazing. Expand

I love the atmosphere present in the game and the fact that they added some color. The game is set in a post-post-apocalyptic era. The flora and fauna should be more than capable of flourishing within 200 years. The landscape shouldn't be so gloomy. The only issue i have and the reason I rated it a 9/10 is a bit of lag. The fps do seem to dip but I'm sure that with some optimization implemented in future patches, the problem will be fixed. Expand

I haven't had a single game breaking bug crop up yet in 15 hours of play and aside from a rad scorpion getting tossed into the sky 15 ft when trying to pop out of the ground nothing else too wonky has happened.

Everyone whining about graphics is doing just that they are a big improvement over the other fallout titles and while it might not be "next gen" I'm happy with it. I'd rather have the huge open world that I'm currently playing in then have it look "next gen".

Story hasn't been the biggest draw for me yet but that's cause I'm all kinds of ADD over the side quests. And while I will get on with the story I'm having way too much fun exploring the wastes at this time.

Also the shooting I love the improvements they made to the system using look down sights is standard for any FPS now a days but I feel they implemented it well and it adds a great amount of "Oh hell, oh hell!" as your starting down a tactical sight shooting at Blood bugs trying to drink your blood.

While my score is is personal preference I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys this type of game. And I've had a chance to speak to several co workers who have played and they have been having a blast as well.

Personally, I found this game amazing. Currently have around 30 hours since release day on November 10th, and I can't be more satisfied. Game continues the motif that war never changes in a good way.

The vast majority of complaints I see here are about graphics, or the dialogue system, or how it is a step backward for the Fallout series, or even performance or bugs. I actually believe this game to be beyond beautiful in terms of substance and graphics.
-The graphics themselves are fine, with good quality textures and a nice theme. I think people like to say the graphics are bad because they see a lot of gray, but in reality that is just a feature that defines the wasteland. For those that feel that the graphics are previous gen, go back and look at Skyrim's and then reassess your life. Besides, if you're playing a game for the graphics, you aren't playing the game for the right reason.
-The dialogue system has at times been annoying, but any complaints I have with it or trivial. For the most part it does its job just as well as the old system Bethesda used in the old Fallout's and Skyrim.
-As for performance related issues and bugs, I don't see where all the hate is coming from. My experience has been great, with my game maintaining a consistent 30 fps in the most intense fire fights. I have noticed minor split second freezes after returning to the Commonwealth from a building or some odd, but never from just wandering the wasteland. From what I've read up on, updating your PS4 system could potentially help with this, or it could be a problem more rooted in the specific model of PS4 you own. As far as bugs go, honestly what did you expect? It's a Bethesda game and it's so massive that its bound to have kinks in it's pipes. Bethesda will have these fixed in no time. (I should note that most of the bugs I have encountered have been small graphical glitches; nothing gamebreaking)

To wrap this up, I would like to mention some things that I found exceptional. Particularly, the atmosphere of the wasteland and how amazing it is. I won't elaborate on it too much as I would encourage you to try it for yourself while just walking around in game, but I can say it does a great job. Finally, the other thing, is that the map size is every bit as big as other titles, such as Skyrim. It may not look large, but it is, and it has every bit as much detail put into it as Skyrim, if not more.

Conclusion: Amazing game. Would recommend to anyone who is willing to sit down and take in a story that requires more than the memory of some less creature to understand.
Result: Proud retainer of said game and will spend many, many, many more hours in it.

The side/ miscellaneous quests have been interesting so far and the game DOES contain RPG elements, they are just more subtle in this game than they were in fallout 3. The settlement builder is very vast (I think there are upwards of thirty locations you can build, that heard about so far, forgive me if I'm wrong) however if that is something that you don't like then you don't have to do it at all. If you are a fan of the series then you should love this game (unless you actively go out looking for problems with the game/ nitpick). I haven't faced on serious glitches or frame rate issues so I can't comment on that unfortunately. The game is as good if not better than the witcher 3 as Fallout 4 has a game that focuses more on player freedom and exploration, whereas the Witcher 3 focuses on character relationships (which Fallout 4 has improved upon massively as well) and a more story focused RPG. However unlike the Witcher 3 I think I'll be replaying Fallout 4 for many years to come and it's only going to get better as the developers will only making the experience better with free updates and dlc that will be worth paying for, unlike many dlc that is available nowadays. Your character is the only survivor of Vault 111, in Boston (called "the Commonwealth"), after a nuclear holocaust. The new character creator is very powerful and very fun to use. This is one game that, when you picture in your mind what you would like your character to look like, you can actually make it. Even if you are not happy with your design, there are a few opportunities to change it before you get into the main game, and you can get facial reconstruction surgery at any point you like.

The gameplay is comparable to any purely FPS game, and is actually a lot more fun. The crafting system is literally the best crafting system from any game, and using a workshop to build settlements can be considered a game in itself. You can literally spend hours building whatever you like. There are endless possibilities.

The game soundtrack is amongst my favourites. It is tense, powerful and captivating. Even the soundtrack playing at the main menu is beautiful. I just wish you could buy a CD of the soundtrack like you could with the first Mass Effect game.

10/10. Great game. There is always something to do, somewhere to go and something to find. You will never be bored.

The voiced dialogue has been streamlined, and while adding a voice to the main character is a nice addition, it was ultimately ruined by the sheer scale of the Commonwealth. Unlike the voiced protagonists from BioWare's RPGs, the Sole Survivor hasn't got a single meaningful piece of dialogue. Every option is a bleak resemblance of each other, and will all result in the same conclusion in order to not end up with a million lines of dialogue. The sentences are short and bland, and the writers at BioWare got twice the amount of content in their dialogue wheel than Bethesda has done. It is an incredibly obvious illusion of "choice".

The combat system has had a major overhaul. It is better than many AAA shooters out there like Farcry and Call of Duty, and the crafting system is both addictive and inventive. Unfortunately, the crafting options seem to have limited the amount of weapon types in the game. Where Skyrim had dozens upon dozens of unique weapons, Fallout's unique weapon designs can be counted on a single, non-mutated hand. Note to developers: Slapping a randomly generated ability onto one of ten standard weapons does not make it a "unique" weapon!

Then there's the main story/the factions. The biggest issue with Fallout is the lack of real quests. Compared to Skyrim, Fallout has got a quarter of the amount of quests, and most of these are radiant, randomly generated side missions which add nothing to the world development (or your inventory for that sake, other than a few caps).

After 100 hours of gameplay, I'm no longer having that urge to pour every second of my life into Fallout 4, something Bethesda games usually have the ability to do even after 300 or 400 hours of gameplay. Half of my time in FO4 has been used on improving the settlements, but after realizing that it changes absolutely nothing for the progression and the in-game world, I'm left with the feeling of regret. I would like those hours back, please.

I don't want to come off as a gaming hipster, but I can't help but feel that FO4 was a step back in more departments than it has been a step forward compared to a game Skyrim, which was critiqued by old school fans for being "bland". Well, Bethesda took it a step further.

Fallout 4 was worth the money, it just wasn't worth the time.

Calling it fallout 3,5 does not make the game bad. Honestly, if you loved fallout 3 you will love fallout 4. There are improvements but there are not groundbreaking. The gun play, graphics and animation has all seen improved but it is not the huge improvement many of us expected. One thing I did not like is the dumbing down of the rpgs elements. Like any other other bethesda game lately, it feels like they focus more and more on action/adventure then rpg aspect of their games. The story this time is more intriguing than the last time and some of missions are really cool to play. There is different type of factions you can join and they all have their own quest-line.
The game has few cool added features like crafting your own settlements and moding every weapon. But overall the changes and improvements are so little I cant help to feel a bit disappointed. I expected fallout 4 to be a 10/10 game, the game has so much going for it but in the end I feel like it bethesda played a bit to safe. That is why I rate this game 8/10, it is a great game don't get me wrong. But it won't have the same impact as fallout 3 or skyrim had when they launched. Fallout 4 leans to the Shooting side of things. It strips down the gameplay from the actual RPG elements and offers a meta-nuclaer shooting gallery which of course keep its charm and gameplay wealth but also feels a little too friendly for the new comers. The Base builder mode is unnecessary, boring and irritating. Unfortunately, overall, there are no steps forward for this Nuclear Holocaust Behemoth of the video games industry. Only steps sideways.
