This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Alright i was so excited for the this game, and while i wasn’t disappointed i also wasn’t impressed. The gameplay is entertaining but everything else just feels empty. Walking around magnolia just feel like walking through an empty field NPCs are all transparent and you can only interact with people asking for favors. Every single quest is the same too, this game is too simplistic is the type of game you make for people who just started gaming. It doesn’t really feel like a PS4 game at all or a game that belongs in this generation. It feels like a game that should’ve happened about 8 years ago. I like the series so i enjoy it but anyone not familiar with it looking to pick up a JRPG will be very disappointed. Also why start it from the tournament arc is 2020 they could’ve fit the whole series in there, i know they had a small budget but come on. When you battle the game can at time feel so alive sadly that’s the only time it does. I do hope they make another and i hope they actually put some work on that one. Expand

As a fan of the series I would have liked more movies. The graphics are very low in tone, they do not use the latest GUST graphics engine, the quests are many but repetitive and boring. There is a bit of censorship but not too much. The music is nice. In conclusion I hoped for better for this I only give him the suffcience

As a fan of Fairy Tail I really, REALLY wanted to love this game. And my first impressions were good. But after an hour of two of gameplay you start to see odd things. The characters have very few animations and they are repeated over and over. The story is rushed. The combat is okay, but lacks depth.

And there are very, very few ingame models for characters, which is SO confusing.

And there are very, very few ingame models for characters, which is SO confusing. Sometimes the game "shows" two characters talking to each other, but the camera just focus on a wall or the floor because they have no ingame models. Other times two characters with ingame models are talking to a whole other group but they don't have models so the camera is just focused on a wall again. Other times the camera doesn't even bother to hide the fact that there are no models and just shows one a couple characters talking to the void when they're supposed to be talking to a third character. And the tournament arc is the worst of all. There are supposed to be 6 teams of 5 characters each apart from the Fairy Tail teams, which would be 30 characters. Only about 5 of them have actual ingame models, and that's because they become party members later. Other characters are just replaced by generic looking bandits or simply ignored.

Disappointing. And I haven't even mentioned the very abusive DLC of this game,

The characters are pretty decent, even cute, except for a few (Wendy's arms tortured me throughout the game), the magical effects are beautiful, but since they postponed the game on purpose for that I wasn't expecting anything. less. Monsters are beautiful but repetitive, since they are often just a recolor of others, and the name changes little (Wolf becomes Mad Wolf), but everyone has their own way of fighting (Sirens support, Flutterers go for speed etc.). I just loved being able to upgrade the guild buildings, as I love the upgrade mechanics in games, as well as the various feedback from people we change as the guild moves up in ranks. I almost finished the game after more than 35 hours of play, and god if there is to talk about it: the story starts with the end of the Tenrou arc, with the battle against Hades, which already that is full of holes, like the lack of the Heart of the Demon, the source of Hades' demonic power, various changes and all a lot less epic than the real battle. Then when you jump seven years, you see a wonderful conversation between Macao and Romeo who have learned to turn into walls, total absence of the oppression by Twilight Ogre except for a small scene even ugly, and zero presence of characters who are not even mentioned, such as Nab, Wakaba, Droy, Jet, Max and others. The story continues in the form of tutorials for too long, which really bothered me as I didn't buy the game to be guided all the time. Skipping forward in history we enter in the Grand Magic Games, done relatively well; also here lack of Ogra, Rufus, the three idiots of Ichiya and Nichiya, all Quatro Cerberus, part of Lamia Scale and Jura without model, of Mermaid Heel there is only Kagura and for Raven Tail there is only Flare. The various games are either changed or just summarized by Lucy at the end, and these things continue throughout the game, but perhaps one of the worst is Lumen Historie which is named as in the manga, but the ending of the game is completely different from the original and it doesn't connect to the war of the finale, so what's the point of naming it?

In a nutshell, the story is disappointing, modified, full of holes, mistakes and cut fights, understandable only by those who know the whole series, the game is repetitive but funny at times, a big punch in the face to all the fans.

Mediocre graphics is a big letdown of Fairy Tail (a common flaw of many Japanese video games based on anime/manga), but it plays much better than you might assume by looking at screenshots and watching trailers.

Fairy Tail is a good gift for fans of the series, but everyone else will not understand the enthusiasm of the characters, the history of their relationships or the rules of the world. The attached encyclopedia offers a brief reference, but this is clearly not enough for a full immersion. Of course, the leader of the Fairy Tail Guild Makarov can attract, but this will only cause a passing interest among newcomers. Bright fights and magic delight, but the slow story with boring tasks and pumping make you yawn from the monotony. But if you are a fan of the original manga or anime series, you can safely add one point to our rating, because you will find yourself in the world that you have been waiting for.

Although minor things like no English voiceover work set back the overall quality, I still find Fairy Tail to be a step above most other anime-based games. The quality of graphics aren’t top-tier for a modern 2020 game, but they look pleasingly anime-like in color and design so it doesn’t feel like a throw-away entry of any sort. Overall, if you’ve been itching for a new anime game and you love Fairy Tail, then Fairy Tail on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC is a fun and refreshing new take.
