I thought I might like the game despite the poor reviews since the oft-quoted problems were technical and could be patched.

On paper, it sounds great: - soul's like combat, check - post-apocalyptic landscape, check - vaguely lovecraftian influences, check how can this game possibly be as bad as people say? Well, I did not see a whole lot of glitching or crashing but,

Well, I did not see a whole lot of glitching or crashing but, unfortunately, this is a boring game with a muddled story, overly punishing and uninteresting combat, boring characters, and no reason to continue playing.

Soulsborne (or souls-borne-sekiro?) games get to be punishing because they also offer fascinating worlds to get lost in and a tangible sense of progress both with shortcuts and with actually getting good at the combat. The labyrinthine environments would be a joy to explore even without the varied enemies to defeat. But what does this game offer? Samey environments with like 4 types of enemy, most of which soak hits forcing one to do the "heavy hit-step dodge" dance over and over and god forbid something blocks the poorly controlled camera. This, coupled with the completely unexplained and an unwarranted attempt to make this a rogue-like makes for an unpleasant slog. Why on earth would I want to do the clunky base construction again after losing all my lives? And, don't even get me started on the sled mechanics.

As soon as I saw the difficulty options I thought here we go again with another developer who is more interested in punishing you rather than letting you enjoy a game. Horrible gameplay, dialogue. I'm not looking for hand holding but other survival games have such a better introduction to their world. Sadly another dissapointment.

From the very start of the game it is clear as day that all the funds for this game went into death;s voice, or whatever the grim voice is, i never got much farther than the starting area because all aspect of the game right down to its controls, are purely a 3/10 alone. it looks like and runs like it belongs on the last generation of consoles and even more of a kicker was i bought it onFrom the very start of the game it is clear as day that all the funds for this game went into death;s voice, or whatever the grim voice is, i never got much farther than the starting area because all aspect of the game right down to its controls, are purely a 3/10 alone. it looks like and runs like it belongs on the last generation of consoles and even more of a kicker was i bought it on PS4, so my chance to refund this annoying and half baked game never existed. If you watched the trailers and think its going to be a Darksiders X Tomb Raider type game AVOID IT. at least on consoles, where refunds are not guaranteed Expand

This game has been published in 2019 and looks as if it is a PS2... OK... maybe PS3 title. It is not that graphics are important to me but this felt kind of too much. A PS4 title that looks really outdated.

From the very beginning I felt that I won't be playing this game for too long. After half an hour I left it for good. Such bad acting I really couldn't swallow in a video game in 2019.

Maybe some fans of Dark Souls kind of gameplay and combat could play this but I am definitely far away from liking anything about Fade to Silence.

Fade to Silence is a survival horror RPG simulator, which is maybe too real for its own good. Yes, the idea of living a life in harsh environment and leading a group against the monsters and the weather sounds great for a game, but we don`t think many fans of horror or simulation genre will have patience and commitment to play this game as long as it should be played.

There is a decent survival gameplay loop at the core of Fade to Silence. It's just that everything that emanates from that core is either cheaply cropped from another game or poorly executed in this one. I just kept coming back to this feeling I was playing disjointed parts of these other games, not a unified experience of this one.

Fun but fraught, muddled but entertaining, Fade To Silence is one of the most ambitious games of the year so far, which unfortunately doesn’t always play in its favour. [Issue#163, p.96]
