Fade to Silence is a survival horror RPG simulator, which is maybe too real for its own good. Yes, the idea of living a life in harsh environment and leading a group against the monsters and the weather sounds great for a game, but we don`t think many fans of horror or simulation genre will have patience and commitment to play this game as long as it should be played.

It’s got the resource management and camp building that I seem to be drawn to and challenging but not Soulsbourne level enemies to tackle.

Fun but fraught, muddled but entertaining, Fade To Silence is one of the most ambitious games of the year so far, which unfortunately doesn’t always play in its favour. [Issue#163, p.96]

If you can ignore the various technical issues and the repetitive combat, then you may enjoy the survival experience that Fade to Silence has to offer. otherwise, this game doesn't give much to enjoy.

Fade to Silence is a true survival game that I want to like a lot more than I do. A passionate team has cooked up some tasty scraps in this frozen hell, but I’m forced to share the meal with irritating company. The ideas are great in theory, but too many elements end up in the realm of mediocrity. Nothing ruins the game, though, yet it is also prevented from being something more. The end result is a survival experience that’s simply enjoyable, but I can’t commend it beyond that.

I still can't find myself comfortable within the genre but at least Fade to Silence offers people like me a foothold. Despite a more casual experience and some welcome co-op, combat feels sluggish and shallow. The world is wonderfully bleak but the storytelling fails to capitalise on the setting. There's some intriguing systems at work here but they don't combine in a way I can enjoy.

Something about the survival genre has taken all those brilliant ingredients and spat out a failure of a meal, however, and that's an depressing reflection on the entire genre.

Farming, crafting, base building, souls movesets. I wouldn't go near the 'normal' mode with the absence of proper healing items. As poor as it is, they couldve sold it for 20bucks and get good ratings with an xp system. But they chose to try sweep it under the rogue/souls rug and sell it for more. Ofc it got lynched. Can provide some fun for a few days Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm easily bored, especially with survival games, but this game kept me interested for a good 30-40 hours. The graphical quality is good, the combat is passable, and the core survival loop is challenging and fulfilling. There just ins't much there to keep me as the player interested in playing after Ash's first true death and all progress is inevitably lost. Expand

If you watched the trailers and think its going to be a Darksiders X Tomb Raider type game AVOID IT. at least on consoles, where refunds are not guaranteed Expand

I thought I might like the game despite the poor reviews since the oft-quoted problems were technical and could be patched.

    On paper, it sounds great:
    - soul's like combat, check
    - post-apocalyptic landscape, check
    - vaguely lovecraftian influences, check

how can this game possibly be as bad as people say?

Well, I did not see a whole lot of glitching or crashing but, unfortunately, this is a boring game with a muddled story, overly punishing and uninteresting combat, boring characters, and no reason to continue playing.

Soulsborne (or souls-borne-sekiro?) games get to be punishing because they also offer fascinating worlds to get lost in and a tangible sense of progress both with shortcuts and with actually getting good at the combat. The labyrinthine environments would be a joy to explore even without the varied enemies to defeat. But what does this game offer? Samey environments with like 4 types of enemy, most of which soak hits forcing one to do the "heavy hit-step dodge" dance over and over and god forbid something blocks the poorly controlled camera. This, coupled with the completely unexplained and an unwarranted attempt to make this a rogue-like makes for an unpleasant slog. Why on earth would I want to do the clunky base construction again after losing all my lives? And, don't even get me started on the sled mechanics.
