    I would describe this game as Journey set in a realistic environment. You do little more than explore, take in the scenery and step by step piece the story together. Fortunately, the story is interesting, the size of the world ample and the scenery gorgeous. It's slow going at first, but becomes more compelling as the story unfolds and the world opens up. There aren't really any game mechanics in the tradional sense unless you include the trophies, that require discovering certain items and performing certain actions.     Truth be told: this is more of an exploratory piece of art than a real video game.
    You can't lose but you can get bored for sure if you misplace your expectations.
    So just enjoy this piece of art at a very low pace. Aka just explore and listen to the tale being told by the clues found everywhere.     Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is a fantastic game. Not your typical game but beautiful to look at and a brilliant experience and one that should not be missed. The music is sublime.

    This is a very difficult game. I do not mean difficult to play, but difficult to understand and to absorb all the philosophical themes throughout the game (check Douglas Hofstadter for some guidance). This is the most beautiful piece of gaming art I have ever played. The story is amazing, the voice-acting is perfect, the atmosphere is unique, the graphics are fantastic and theThis is a very difficult game. This an experience which you may or may not like. It's slow and tense and you must pay attention to all the details. First you must have patience and you must like this game style. After that you must be able to allow yourself to feel this experience, to take in all the emotional and philosophical content that Chinese Room is putting in the game (for this you must be interested in these things in games and you must be capable to at least try to understand the ideas behind the game).
    There are a few things that could have been better: a run option (that R2 thing is only a power walk) and a patch that solves the few annoying FPS issues.
    This game is pure gold but cannot be judged by gamers that do not understand these games just as a Twilight reader cannot understand Kafka.    … Expand

    Great game or experience might be a better word.
    Although it's not action packed, I enjoyed this game as one of the best of 2015.
    The atmosphere is excellent with beautiful graphics and even more amazing sound and soundtrack to add to the experience.

    Not everyone will like it, but, for me, it is the most interesting and meaningful title of the year (far more so than Bloodbourne, The Witcher 3, or MGS5, for instance, all three of which I loved and played to    Dear god.     An beautiful visual and emotional journey.
    If you like Visual exploration games, with an amazing atmosphere and a unique sense of calm then get this game. do it. its $15/£12 not much of a gamble.
    however if you don't care about story line and aesthetics, then pass.
    it's that simple. if you like it you will love it. if it's not your kind of game then it will be a 'Meh' kinda game.

    Just completed the game and I was close to tears in parts. I have never experienced such an emotional journey within a game before. The graphics, music, sound, writing and voice acting are stunning. Great story with a heart wrenching ending. I can't recommend this enough.

    I would not recommend it for people who already know that they don't enjoy this type of game. It's a very typical "walking simulator" as some would like to call it. But i recommend it - a lot - to people who want to enjoy a somewhat hypnotic, beautiful atmosphere for a few hours. The characters grew on me and as time went on, almost all the dialogue is interesting to listen to. It's not "fun".. it is more of a great experience and i will gladly "play" through it again one day.    … Expand

A lot of young gamers in particular just won't 'get' this sort of 'game'. If you're the sort who only likes hectic shoot-'em-ups like Call of Duty, then this won't be for you.     I can think of little flaws, e.g. why are all the radios the same make and colour, and why are there only 4 types of car/van? But that's being hypercritical. There are no real flaws with this game. Sure, you're unlikely to play through it more than twice, but then you can say the same for most games. This gives you a prime opportunity to gain a platinum trophy, too, and that's what's keeping me coming back.

    If I could sum this game up in one humorous sentence, it would be: EBGTR is like an episode of BBC's The Archers meets The Sixth Sense. Just buy it and support this awesome indie developer.    … Expand

    The game to end all games. Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is a first-person non-linear interactive story. There are no puzzles to be solved. You look around for clues while walking through an astonishing environment and listening to a wonderful soundtrack.

Utterly absorbing, this isn't the longest game but well worth the price as it will stay with you for years to come.

    My only complaints are that there is no zoom, crouch, or examine function-- I'd hoped for something to look closer at the immaculate detail that The Chinese Room added to their game-- and there is no sprint, which would be helpful to keep up with the sometimes speedy glowing orb that guides you through the game.     I loved the English town setting, the graphics are gorgeous and the music is superb. I liked the voice acting and i really enjoyed how the plot unfolded in it's artistic way. I don't think a film could capture the same feelings as you explore the village. This game proves that it offers a unique story telling that no other format could provide. Your spirit of adventure and inquisitiveness are the tools to unravelling the mystery that unfolds as you progress.

    I played this game in the first week of lockdown of covid and this added greatly to the creepy feeling I got from the village that is quarantined.

    The game doesn't have replay value but it will long stay in my mind as a lovely memory.
    With it's great graphics, moving audio score and a script that is at times down to earth and relatable , whilst at other times poetic and dramatic.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Its apparent that a lot of the other user reviews are completely unaware of the r2 button on their controller. It makes you go faster. Its written in the user manual. That being said, the point of the game is not to speed through it. Its to listen carefully and see the state of the world. You SHOULD be looking at all the details. Those posters that say the goings on of the town are important to the story. The variety of tiny details gives the environments their own stories. The musical cues and various sound effects draw you to investigate certain places and help with pacing. The few emergency vehicles present are few in number for a reason. The intimate look into the lives of the other townsfolk give context to the rest of the story. There is narrative depth here, just dont expect to be beat over the head with it like most stories in games.… Expand

    I was unsure about this game but the more I played the better it got. It's a beautiful game and a solid 9 and a must play at the $15 price. Another great new IP for the Sony PS4.

    From the intriguing story and great visuals, to incredibly well designed characters and voice acting, this is a fantastic journey.

    The only reason i'm not giving it a 10/10 is walking/running speed. While it's understandable for this kind of game, as someone who likes exploring places more than once and considering the world is pretty big, pacining could have been a bit faster.

It may sound paradoxically but this game is not really for playing but for exploring the world and story . You can follow a yellowish orb around to see and hear events that had transpired beforehand. That's it. If that level of simplicity turns you away, stop reading this. There's nothing wrong with wanting more to do in a video game. Now if you're still with me, let me say that within the first few minutes, I went from memorized to frightened to deeply distraught and back again. The atmosphere is simply above and beyond anything I have experienced in a game before. And the storytelling made me feel like I had stepped right into a Stephen King novel. Remember in English class hearing the phrase "show, don't tell"? Well, this game gets that. The player is told nothing directly and has to try and piece together the story bit by bit overhearing the characters conversations with each other and themselves. The voice acting needs to be superb in this case and thankfully it is. Along with the score that only plays when appropriate and does not intrude over the story. It's all pieced together immaculately and is really a testament to how much care was taken in development. Now, some complaints have been made about the walking pace. I found it similar to the walking pace in Fallout 3 or New Vegas and had no problem with it. I certainly wouldn't be against an update that could give a jog option though.
    In conclusion, If you've had the patience to read all of my jabber today and are interested in the game, then dive right in because you'll find a story that is told in a way you'll most likely fall in love with. But if you're still iffy and not convinced you'll enjoy the game mechanics or lack thereof. it's probably better to put that money toward something else.    … Expand

    Definitely not for everyone, but personally I loved it. A beautiful, big world to explore at your own leisure. It's not too big to get lost, and there are plenty of landmarks and maps to help you find your way. I really like these kind of games, where I can just forget about everything else and explore every corner of the game world to unlock every little piece of the story. The world is very detailed and immersive, and together with the amazing music and old school sci-fi story, it creates such a wonderful atmosphere. I knew I loved this game the second I started playing, and I didn't put the controller down until I finished it. I played through it again the next day, and I'm sure I will return to it very soon.

    Clearly a case of 'either love it or hate it' though, and I can understand why a lot of people are negative about it. But I found this a very welcome, relaxing experience in between all the action packed AAA games (which I enjoy very much too).    … Expand

    This is a game about the end of the world, but instead of throwing you into a post-apocalyptic New York City, with urban settings, zombies, and guns, you will be placed in a quiet English village just after a mysterious phenomenon ends life in it. Walking from house to house, room to room, and field to field, you will witness very personal communications between ghosts of people who are now gone. The power of the game comes from the rural setting and the rich, deep dialogue. A true sense of melancholy, accentuated by the rich orchestral musical score, is the main emotion this game will create in you.

    Some people will argue that this is not a game, but rather an immersive experience, which I agree with. This is a fine example of a medium where you "live" the experience, rather than have it presented it you. The visuals are exceptional, and you will definitely feel that you are in a real, breathing, but sad, world.    … Expand

    This was a hauntingly beautiful experience, I hesitate to call it a game, more like a narrative that you explore. Interaction is minimal, you walk around a small town in Shropshire, England discovering remnants of stories filled with relatable and personal themes. The art direction is fantastic, the soundtrack is gorgeous and the stories that it weaves made me tear up many times. AsThis was a hauntingly beautiful experience, I hesitate to call it a game, more like a narrative that you explore. Interaction is minimal, you walk around a small town in Shropshire, England discovering remnants of stories filled with relatable and personal themes. The art direction is fantastic, the soundtrack is gorgeous and the stories that it weaves made me tear up many times. As someone who lives in a Welsh village bordering Shropshire I can confidently say the setting is very true to life, perhaps giving it an extra personal touch for someone like me. I cared deeply for the characters, the writing was excellent yet humble. To summarise I'd say it's not going to appeal to everyone, it's a walking simulator that's heavy on contextual story but without any other gameplay bar exploration, what I will say is the length was actually longer than I expected, though this may be in part to a criticism I have over the ploddingly slow walking pace (I advise patience here); also the performance could be better with frame dips quite frequent (although not particularly game breaking), all in all for the type of game it is (I do use the term loosely) I found it beautiful and compelling.… Expand

    A fascinating, eerie game with a clever storyline and believable characters. The graphics are super-realistic and really draw you in, I particularly enjoyed the mysterious observatories and the sense of mystery and thick atmosphere. It's somewhat of the walking sim genre, so might not be for everyone, but I found it gripping and really good fun. I was delighted to manage to complete the game.

    An enjoyable game in the vein of Gone Home. I am definitely in the mood for a game like this every month. I appreciate the diversity in gaming. This game lets you meander around and tells a story in whatever order you discover it. It was a solid game but not for everyone.

    This Game is set in the County I was born and raised in. So I had an immediate interest. Shropshire in England I can tell you for a fact is the greenest county in the UK. The game shows off the Shropshire countryside In fantastic detail.

The way you find the scattered pieces of the story as you explore a beautiful town feels very natural. The story itself is very much human and should be relatable to most people. And the music is the ultimate layer that makes the experience all the more memorable.

    The view in this game is absolutely fantastic. Peace and quiet. But when you go deeper in the lore, you'll find touchy moments of townspeople's life. If you're looking for sightseeing - that's the right game for you. But it might feel a little bit too slow (you literally crawl through the whole game).

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sometimes you need to take a step out of your comfort zone when gaming, and experience new things, im very reluctant to do that, and if im honest I look down on Indie games as somehow not worth the money.

    I took a chance on Every one’s gone to the Rapture, and actually I wasn’t disappointed entirely.

    The first thing to make clear is, this isn’t a game per se; it’s a narrative, a collection of spoken accounts that make up the overall story. The basic premise is, ultimately, everyone is dead, right from the off, there is no one, you are tasked with piecing together what happened and making sense of it.

    As you enter the small village of Yaughton in Shropshire you notice a glowing ball of light, and this will be ultimately your guide throughout the journey you embark upon, this spirit if you watch it carefully will show you where the major points of interest are, but it’s important to stress that it doesn’t go everywhere and you will need to be nosey to learn all the information, for instance taking a woodland footpath will often lead to hushed conversations and side lines in the major plot, and its actually critical sometimes that you hear these in order to make sense of everything.

    As you wind around the village and its surrounding area you learn that something catastrophic happened here, some celestial event has wiped out Yaughton and ultimately the world.

    What starts as an isolated village soon becomes apparent to be something bigger than they anticipated and it’s too late to stop it.

    The main characters Stephen and Kate are scientists, and for most of the story argue a lot about what to do about the being that is killing everyone, the real gem here is that the stories are so personal you can’t help but get involved, I don’t want to spoil too much, but you gain the most from this adventure by taking your time and exploring and listening, and more importantly understanding what is going on, it took me 30 mins to realise who I was and why I was seeing the things I was, but the ending made little sense and didn’t really explain everything, I still have unanswered questions and that is one of my gripes.

    What you do learn is that everyone gets infected and eventually dies, after nose bleeds, headaches and other symptoms, it doesn’t explain why some people turn into ash or just disappear, my gut feeling was it was a radiation type of thing inside some alien being that came to earth via the black hole event that took place, but that’s my theory, it’s a frustrating story as well as a rewarding one, you also garner that the event has already happened and you are witnessing something else, some sort of echoes stuck in time.

    Lots of questions are generated by story and ending…

    For example, what exactly happened, I get that an “event” happened, but what exactly…? Why do I see spirit echos from the past? Why me? why at the end do I see myself disappearing? These questions are never answered, or if they were, not clear enough that I grasped it first time through, and the explanation that is read out at the end gives some wishy washy sentimental reason how were all dead now, but were together, and that life will go on after were gone (humankind)…. Sigh.

    The graphics are truly beautiful as you can see from the screenshots I’ve added to this blog piece, but what really sets this apart from anything else is the music score, it’s one of the best I’ve heard in a long long time, the timing of the music with the events that unfold is truly an emotional thing and it’s hard to describe, I caught my breath a few times when the sunlight hit the trees and the music kicked in with its haunting, lilting meoldies and voices, truly inspiring at times.

    My biggest gripe with this title, is the time it takes to play through, even with the imposed cripple speed walking, the story can be told in 4 hours of play, for £12.99 that’s pretty poor, there was a massive amount of un explained stories and theories that could have been put in to fill out the story, but weren’t.

    Having said that, I would recommend Every one’s Gone to The Rapture, it’s an emotional journey that all PS4 players should undertake, and ultimately form your own theories about what is going on and why.

    I rated 8 because its short, something are unexplained even at the end and its a bit slow moving about.    … Expand

    I enjoyed this one. The story and mystery were both interesting, and the music and graphics were beautiful. I just wish you had an option to move a little faster or run, because it can be an ASS of a time to back-track if you've gone the wrong way; the character is very slow.

(about the height of player control) It shows you how to do this at the very beginning, but I played a bit when I first got it, then fired it up a couple of days later. By the time I ran into one of these "points" again, that required interaction to initiate on my part, I had forgot. I walked past dozens of those points, always wondering what the hell they were for. LOL. The main parts of the story unfold without you shaking the controller or whatever it requires at those other points, so I got used to the story just unfolding on its own. So I missed a good chunk of the story because of this gimmicky "interaction" they threw into the game . I only figured out what I did wrong nearing the end of the game when you have to interact with one of them to keep the story going. I had to youtube a walkthrough....then remembered. I havent played the game since, much less finished it. Over all, as long as you are aware what you are getting, it does tell a haunting and well thought out story.     Also the game doesn't have the sheer gripping tension or sense of urgency/purpose that Gone Home had. Also the level of interactivity is limited and you just feel like you are walking around to get to spots so that more of the story is revealed to you and not that you are actually discovering it for yourself.
    The game is designed well enough that everyone will at some point manage to reach the conclusion, but i don't think the narrative holds up when i was wondering everywhere and picking up snippets of what appeared to be disparate conversations.
    The premise and conclusion is weak. But that is to be expected, explaining a supernatural phenomenon of light that wipes out all of humanity is pretty hard and they just about manage to keep it from becoming too silly.
    It's a good 4-5 hours of a unique if imperfect experience that just about justifies its price point after adding the PS+ discount.
    Since the world is already created, if the Chinese Room were to provide more stories of people into the game as free DLC, it may actually become a more fun experience. Because right now it's just too empty and there is just too much real estate to cover for meagre rewards.    … Expand

    The story and atmosphere had me hooked up until the last 30 mins where it felt awkward and does a disservice to not only the entire premise of the game but also to the story that was being told and destroys any replay value which is a real shame as everything up to that point was brilliant.

    This game is better called a linear walking similtor. You are forced to follow an absolute linear path where you chase a glowing orb. This orb will stop from time to time to force a plot or mini-plot point. There are occasional phone calls and memories but they are absolutely on the forced path.

    But hey, this kind of game deserves to be supported at the end of the day if we all want gaming to grow as a medium.. So maybe buy it as a contribution to the cathedral of gaming as a culture, as it's still super shaky. A for effort, D for execution.    … Expand

I can see the criticism that having everyone represented as light was lazy but I think it's done incredibly stylishly, and makes more sense and has more impact as the game goes on. So if you're on the fence, I think you'll come to appreciate it.

    However, what to make of the story? Well it's no slow burn, dropping you into the plot surprisingly quickly. In retrospect, I feel somewhat cheated by this. The game offers you several characters in order as you progress, and they talk to each other a bit and that's about all it has to offer. Then you reach the end and you've learned very little about the "scifi" part of it, and if you're unlucky, learned little about the people too.

    I found that if I didn't constantly look for the orange blob, I had absolutely no idea where to go. Without it, I would be so lost that I'd have to close the game (there's no ingame Quit option) and reload, just so I'd be near the last checkpoint with a chance at catching the orange blob again. This meant that I could never really explore, because losing track of the blob was such a nightmare, and ensured that I didn't get to fully appreciate it all. I'm sure this is in large part down to my fault, with more time and more love, and maybe a pen and paper, I could have worked through.

    Checking the trophies is the most damning evidence though - 2.8% of all players managed to see all of the story before the end of the game. Perhaps we're playing it wrong, but I feel like that is a massive failure on the part of the developers. The trophies suggest there was a modest wealth of things I could have done that I just didn't know about - interacting was such a rarity that it was tiresome to keep checking anything that wasn't a door or a phone. This is a brave attempt to go without holding the hand of the player, but ultimately if 99% of the things I look at aren't responsive, I am just not going to spend six hours still trying to interact with everything I look at.

The mystery and wonder to this game is so cool and creative, and wandering around this ghost town is so spooky. The stories of everyone coming together is fascinating, but I felt like there wasn't quite enough connecting all of the characters to keep me from being confused at times. One issue I had though is I did not realize the glowing orb floating around town was actually leading you from scene to scene and that you were supposed to follow it, so I got my story a little out of order. Still, the experience was very neat. Once I got going with the orb the story was quite emotional as you followed the footsteps in these people's final moments. The ending was a little more sub-par than the rest of the game. There was such an emotional build-up and it ended with more questions really. Still this is one of the very popular artsy titles to be released, and one people will really enjoy!

So those for you that are looking for some adrenalin or some thrill might want to look somewhere else. However, if you’re looking for a more relaxing experience, with a story, full of mystery and some drama, this is your game. I don’t want to go into too much detail (and I won’t) but the story is interesting so if you’re looking for that I doubt this game will disappoint you.

    Graphics and sound are good, nothing that will make you go wow, but they serve their purpose and some of the views are quite nice, it is overall a visually nice experience.
    Only bad thing I can think of is that I found a couple of bugs while playing, nothing mayor but still a bit annoying.

    It was sort of fun, though. My first hour was spent mainly exploring the town and going door-to-door, my main goal seeing if I could find any survivors, the ball of light urging me to follow it remaining ignored as I felt uneasy around it, actually acting hostile to it due to its unknown nature and intentions, but nonetheless I had to accept that it wouldn't go away, and it seemed mostly benign, anyway. Along the way, I realized I wouldn't find anyone here, and with the ominous ball of light as my only companion, I finally resorted to following it, being presented with no other choice, though I would still often fall off its designated path to explore other things. I began to get a sense of what the town was like as I witnessed fragments of the resident's stories and characters, and it really began to feel like a place that was once thriving and lively. It felt genuinely human, and the stellar voice acting definitely helped that.

    Passing through the town, I began relying more on my spectral guide, and I'd even talk to it, telling it to "hold on" as I couldn't run that quickly, and to quit "making a fuss" whenever it seemed agitated that I wasn't following it. It really took a character of its own for me, and my immersion in the story helped with that. I felt engaged the whole way through the story, piecing together the mystery of the tragedy that befell the small town I found myself in, thinking to myself the whole way, and some story points hit me on a personal level, as some characters shared troubles that I have in real life, one of which genuinely made me pause a moment and reflect on myself and the situation, only to be snapped out of it by my glowing companion, reminding me of the task at hand

    I eventually felt a sort of friendly relationship with that little ball of light as it continued to lead me, convinced that it somehow knew what had happened, or more likely, that it was directly responsible. It couldn't talk, obviously, and it seemed the only way it could communicate was to show me these fragments of other people's experiences. I didn't have a choice, did I? In the end, it did lead me to the truth... though that truth is something I still don't understand completely, though not for lack of explaining... it's simply something that's beyond comprehension. It really was astounding, and it took me a bit to process the entire thing and come up with my own definitive answer, that I at least think isn't too far from the actual truth.

    The story was engaging, the mystery was riveting, and my travelling friend-of-sorts was somewhat comforting, helping me to overcome my fear, oddly enough, and battle my loneliness in the empty world I found myself in. As far as I knew, I was the only human left in the world... I felt a bit scared. But I knew I had to figure out what happened, even if it was just for the sake of knowing.

    Now that the general experience I had is out of the way, I can move on to the actual gameplay.

    Music and sound design is amazing, as well as the graphics, all of which capture the homey feeling of the small town of Yaughton. The entire town looks and sounds beautiful, and the music... oh, the music... the soundtrack of this game is so amazing, and it felt so good when it played at all the right moments, setting just the right tone where necessary, making me feel somber at one moment, intrigued the next, and totally ready for adventure after that. A detail I really loved about it was that the lyrics to many of the tracks followed the actual dialogue of the story at certain points.

    However, the game is slow as ****, slower than I'd like. Of course, it's supposed to be. Your walking pace is fine, and it's really necessary at some points, letting you take in the scenery and events, but hold R2 to build up speed? It's a trot, at most, not anything close to a run. Would've liked it at some points where I'm trying to follow the floating light bulb or crossing a field or backtracking when I got friggin lost. Though luckily it wasn't a deal breaker, for me, at least, it was still certainly noticeable.

    And then there's the fact that... there just isn't much to do in the world. Exploring is fun, finding clues and seeing glimpses of past lives, and wondering what kinds of lives were lived here, all of that is nice and all... but that's really all you got. That's fine I guess, but I wish there had been a bit more.

    All in all, it's a nice little experience, but I can understand the gripes some people have with it. I don't mind it so much, though.    … Expand

    I knew from the start this was a "walking simulator" so I knew what I was in for. That being said, for what this game tries to do it does it well. You can't really interact with anything apart from activating dialogue and opening doors but the game is very relaxing to play if you have a few hours to chill.

    I played this on my own on a lazy Sunday and it was nice to not have to worry about figuring anything out - just walk about and listen to the story as it unfolds. The graphics are some of the best I've seen which makes its much nicer to play. The voice acting on the game is also some of the best I've seen, especially towards the end is it gets a bit more heated.

    I think I finished the game in about 3 hours but I think I missed a few bits of dialogue so it could be longer.

    I only have one bit of criticism for the game and that would be that the walking is too slow. If only it was a bit faster or you could hold a button for some sort of jog.

    For those that can get it free this month on PS Plus I recommend it. It's not my normal genre of game but it was very refreshing.    … Expand

    - An engaging and emotional story that drives the player along, wanting to reveal more and more of what transpired in this little English town
    - The visuals aren't just for show - they enforce the themes and narrative rather than just being a glittery exterior

    Cons:
    - There is no gameplay. You walk, following a ball of light, or you walk, exploring in whatever order you deem fit. Either way, this is the definition of a walking simulator. I didn't mind, as I knew this going in, but this will not be for everyone

    Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is divisive in its appeal.     The soundtrack is incredibly powerful that fits very well with the somber mystery, the slow pace and the serene setting. This soundtrack really adds to the moment!

    The slow pace is deliberately making the gamer slow down and take in the scene at a leisurely pace, I actually commend the developers for this, whilst it can be frustrating it ensures the game is enjoyed in the way it was designed.

    The real frustration lies in a number of mechanics. The save points are very spread out and you can easily miss seeing the save icon, to not know if this game was last saved 4 or 40 minutes ago is poor, even 4 is too much. There were also times when I lost the path of the story and wandered pretty aimlessly until I found the correct path to trigger the next dialogue.

    It was not always clear who was the main focus of the story for that given moment. In general the storyline was somewhat abstract and vague, though still intriguing.

    This game is to be enjoyed at a slow pace immersed in its dulcet sounds and the haunting beauty of the landscape and mystery. This is what makes the game powerful and worth persisting with the frustrating aspects and loose storyline.    … Expand

    Beautiful landscape to explore, but walking was too slow to want to go back to explore it, I never particularly cared about the inhabitants of the world, and I felt that it overstayed it's welcome. Also the wandering ball of light tended to get lost and I wouldn't know where to go. I imagine I wasted at least an hour of playtime due to that.

    All in all I enjoyed the experience though.

    + Great dialogue and voice acting. The voice actors and writers really got the dialogue spot on in the game with some fantastic performances with the voice actors and believable relationships and character arcs by the writers.

    + Environments in this game are beautiful and really adds to the immersion felt in the game when exploring the valley.

    + The music is absolutely beautiful in this game kicking in with vocal choirs at the right time and adding some fantastic string and woodwind melodies when travelling around the village. If there's one thing to enjoy from this game its certainly the soundtrack.

    Negatives:

    - No mechanics in sight. Sadly the game is, in every aspect, a "walking simulator". The only interaction you have with the game is pushing the left analog stick forward and pressing x for a few doors you need to open. A wasteful opportunity by the developers to create something immersive and interactive.

    - Walking speed. Absolutely ridiculous the speed at which you actually travel at. It seems like the developers decided to try and span out the game length by slowing down the walking speed where it would take 2-3 minutes to walk from one story memory to the next.

    - Character representation was quite awful as besides voices you had no means by which to distinguish one character from the next and while some voices were different I had trouble knowing the difference between some of the main characters like Stephen & Jeremy or Barbara & Lizzie or Frank and Charlie meaning some of the story memories were confusing.

    - Anti-climatic ending. I viewed it twice and still doesn't explain what the pattern was, why it was feeding off people, why the animals were dead and how people were disappearing. A rather confusing ending that left me disappointed.

    Overall Everybodys Gone To The Rapture has some good story telling overlaid with a fantastic soundtrack but its not enough to warrant anymore than an above average score as having little to no interaction or game mechanics means it can be quite a boring experience and is even a stretch to call it a game. An intriguing story in this case is not enough to make up from having no mechanics.    … Expand

    One of the lead voice actors I recognized from "The Last of Us," so perhaps no fault of Chinese Room's casting, but it was distracting for me as well.

    The threads of the "plot" are so bare and thin they're barely scraps to motivate you to move forward. The only thing pushing you forward is the innocuous feeling of dread despite no discernable threat in the game. Yet the dread you feel is hampered by the slow pace and arbitrary exploration one does to find the next small scrap of exposition. So the main driving force to push you through the story is contradicted by the game's own mechanics.

    6/10 for a great story and graphics hampered by cobbled-design that worked for other stories, but not this one. The music and overall mis-en-scene of the game was the best part, but that's not worth 15-20 dollars American.    … Expand

What saves the game however is the very impressive writing that's on offer, which tells the poignant story of a village coming to terms with the end of the world.     And that's it really. Rapture is damned pretty but you'll need an open mind and a lot of patience to endure this one. Sadly for me that is exactly how it felt towards the end - a test of endurance.    … Expand

    This game disappointed me, this is because it DOES have a great story BUT your character could not sprint and it was SO easy to get lost, took me ages each time to find a new story thread so i had to walk EXTREMELY slowly through a big map searching for ages i probably would not recommend you buy this like I did to be honest.

    The mystery is very interesting, but thats it. You can not pick up and examine anything in the game and in my opinion the walking is too slow and with no sprint can lead to a long boring stroll. I believe a game lacking so many moving parts in the world should make for a dynamic interesting world, but it doesnt, for the most part the world seems very stiff and even static at times. Going through the game a majority of the buildings are locked and there are many roads you cannot go down on top of that there is a marker in game to keep you on the correct path through the world.     Su excelente banda sonora no llega a compensar del todo lo tediosa que es por momentos su aventura, con la que cuesta conectar al no ofrecer apariencias físicas sino voces. Así, personalmente, el lío de nombres me provocó no entender un argumento con el que intenté conectar en todo momento.     I'm certainly glad that I played EGTTR and I do think that it tells a decent story. However, it's a fact that the game hides it's own shortness by forcing you to walk at a snail's pace all the time - something that makes the game maddeningly slow and boring. A decent story and sort of cool setting can't make for a complete lack of gameplay.

    - The walking is VERY slow, even if you hold down R2 to go faster (which is only a bit more faster).     - There is no manual save function, which is incredibly tedious if you need to close the game and do something else, like eat, go out, etc. There is only an autosave function which happens for certain events, meaning you have to keep playing until the game autosaves, which can take a while to get to. If you close the game, then you'll lose all that progress. This is absolutely ridiculous!
    - the story isn't very engaging and is overall quite boring. I found myself not really caring.

    Overall, this game was a big disappointment. The world they created was very close to a real life English countryside, however it was a very boring experience.    … Expand

    A cool concept, with great voice acting and a beautifully recreated English village, I wasn't hugely keen on the story however and felt that the game could help you keep track of the various characters more than it does, especially as you are effectively free to roam as you please.

    Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is a beautiful looking game with an interesting concept but, in part due to the painfully slow movement of your character, it really is pretty dull at times. Over the last couple of years I’ve enjoyed a fair few story led games but whereas Life is Strange offers the player plenty of choices, or Gone Home kept proceedings contained within a small area and theEverybody’s Gone to the Rapture is a beautiful looking game with an interesting concept but, in part due to the painfully slow movement of your character, it really is pretty dull at times.     I was left with more questions about what the game was missing rather than what I had played. It is one of those games that while you play it, you begin thinking; "it would be better if...". Rapture is more reliant on the players own intrigue, and it relies on this way too much.     Everybody's gone to the Rapture is better described as an interactive experience, with the same level of interaction of watching an episode of Murder She Wrote. It feels so poorly paced and bloated that I just wanted it to end. The story is nothing ground breaking, but the method in which it is delivered killed it for me. It's like reading a book one paragraph at a time, between each you go and perform a house chore. The "characters" are nothing more than mediocre stereotypes pulled straight out of Agatha Christies reject bin. Simply put; Are the greatest stories you have ever heard the stories you we're told in nursery school? Do you love the depths of the characters from Emmerdale? Do you lie awake at night mystified by what could possibly be inside a Kinder egg? Do you love listening to your neighbours argue and wish you could Voyeuristically sneak into their house when they go out? If you're blinded by "OMG look at the pretty graphics", and you don't mind simulated walking, for hours at a snails pace around a beautifully crafted representation of middle England, just to discover that, there's nothing to really discover, than Rapture is the interactive experience for you.    … Expand

    The things I like about Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture are many: the self-paced discovery and chronological asymmetry, the significance of entangling yourself in a visually “complete” environment, the poignance of a well-crafted, well-delivered character exchange. I’m just not sure how often I’d want to repeat the experience.

    The slow, idyllic exploration, paired by some good narrative make Everybody's gone to the Rapture something that should be played, but only by those with patience. It's a sluggish walk to the end, that pays off, but probably not enough for many players.
