    The mystery is sort of interesting to explore and the game is quite beautiful (music is great). However the game is blemished by crappy performance and the fact that you walk around at a snail's pace (even with "turbo" engaged). Right after finishing the game I would probably have given it a 7/10. But now, after the experience has settled, I have absolutely zero    Mediocre game = 5

    Good graphics, nice atmosphere, nothing more. The plot seems potentially good at the beginning, foreshadowing a complexity that could lead to an unexpected ending, but approaching the final scene you can feel way in advance what has happened.     Very pretty game and a lovely concept but having finished the game today i am disappointed, to me the game didn't really know what way to go story wise and it all just seemed to get more and more confused with itself as time went on. The standard walking pace is like a tortoise, after holding down R2 you go at about a normal walking speed, no running at all.… Expand

    R2 что-бы передвигаться быстрее, про это разработчики забыли упомянуть в самой игре!!! Игра для терпеливых. Графика не айс, я бы сказал PS3 в full hd. Я ждал большего, но атмосфера в игре всё таки есть.

    Do you remember that feeling of dread when you were playing final fantasy 13, and you found out the "game" was just one big corridor with no interaction whatsoever from the user?

    This is like that but much worst.....

    Just wait until the game is free on PS+. It's not really worth the $20.

    The story is serviceable, but... if you enjoy non-linear story telling, you may as well just play Bloodborne.

    There is very little replay value here.

    WALKING simulator with BROKEN "sprint" mechanic,

    Voice Acting: SUPERB

    Music: MEDIOCRE, and eventually annoying

    The amount of UNCOLLECTABLE "COLLECTABLES" is outrageous and unworthy of game time

    Great game, other than it is really slow, you walk slow and the running ability really doesn't do much of anything. The game is pretty linear, and the saving function can be annoying as it didn't save for me and I lost several hours of gameplay. I enjoyed the story, but it's really nothing special to see here.

    This game is better called a linear walking similtor. You are forced to follow an absolute linear path where you chase a glowing orb. This orb will stop from time to time to force a plot or mini-plot point. There are occasional phone calls and memories but they are absolutely on the forced path. Also, if you lose sight of the glowing orb, make a wrong turn or try to deviate from the linearThis game is better called a linear walking similtor. The only other solution is to maybe try to walk back the ENTIRE course of the map to find the orb (if you are lucky). Oh and there are lens flares galore and fields of wheat which are same color as the glowing orb.

    In the end, I wouldn't even call this a game. It has a mediocre and disjointed plot and horrific linear pathing, if you want to enjoy nature actually go outside - you can come up with your own plot and get lost without glowing orbs that blend in with lens flares.    … Expand

    This isn't a game, is just a slow and boring walking simulator with lots of backtracking, i just find myself forcing me through the "game" to witness the disappointing ending.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have gamed for over 35 years. The games that I have recently played or will play are Fallout 3 (played) and Fallout New Vegas (played), The Last of Us (played), DC Universe Online (playing), Until Dawn (upcoming), Just Cause 2 (played) and 3 (Upcoming), Fable 3 (played) Far Cry 3 (played), Infamous (played), The Evil Within (just finished), Crimes and Punishment (playing) and Monopoly (played). So you get an idea of what I have under my belt going in to this experience.

    This is not my kind of game yet I appreciate its development. I'm going to keep it short. I do not play sports games and I do not play or like medieval games. I really enjoy the music and the scenery. It is one of the most casual gaming experiences one could ask for. The subtle atmospheric changes within the game explain why you have to move so slow. They system can't handle you moving at the same time the sun is changing positions in the sky. Also apparently acceptable is invisible walls.

    The 5 rating is generous in my opinion and it's only due to the graphics and story line. I fell asleep having to meander around so slowly. I found that the attempt at an open world experience with a linear story line is not good. If you do not hit each of the points you are supposed to hit because you were wandering and exploring, the story doesn't unlock and you'll find areas like the Main Hall and the Train Station glitched out because you missed an interaction waaay back at the beginning, which you have to walk slowly all the way back to. The lack of an on demand map meant that until you because familiar enough with your surroundings, you'd have to walk aimlessly to the next map point only to realize that is not really the way you wanted to go. The pace of the game is so completely frustrating that being forced into an experience was too frustrating for me.

    I do like the lack of skill trees, points, levels, companions, any physical self rendering, ammo dumps, jump scares and cheese zombie quantifiers. I did not like the movement speed and brainless strategy where a leaf would keep you from moving in the direction you wanted to go but a wheat field could be wandered through without issue. I would have more fun banging my head into a desk surface, personally and if you're getting a breast reduction and will be bed ridden for 4 weeks, this game is probably right up your alley to help pass the time.     Thumbs up for the graphics and the music. I liked all the small details in the game and I am sure a lot of time went into making the world believable. However, the story and gameplay was just absolutely boring. It felt like I was forcing myself to finish this game. I cannot give this more than a 5.

    When looking at the outdoor scenery this walking simulator looks amazing, the really atmospheric British countryside looks very realistic. However the speed of movement (there is no real run feature just a slight jog) and the lack of puzzles makes this a bit of a dull experience. When this is so little to do then I would rather just watch the movie version or read the book...

    The game - although not exactly bad to look at has terrible visual flaws, there is one part where there are 8 candles for instance, you walk in between them and they stop doing their motions as you walk, it suffers from little visual laziness which spoils things a little.
    The physics on the other hand (or lack of) is quite funny at times, i couldn't quite figure out why i could "walk" onto a shopping trolley in someones garden but couldn't walk onto a tyre, and there is a park in the game, there is a football in the park, you see a ball and you have to try and kick it right? Well in everybody's gone to the rapture...you can stand on footballs! you cant kick them granted, but you can stand on them!
    Now here comes the biggie in laziness - being English it was painstakingly obvious that research was not carried out very well, they got some English voice actors who done relatively well and they done a fine job of interior and exterior design, but when i came across a petrol station and the price was measured PER GALLON i absolutely lost my mind and this forced me to create an account here and leave a review. petrol is priced in litres not gallons in England! This led me to believe that they were lazy with the little details, and its the little details that make a game. For instance, having hands and feet would be nice!
    It is an interesting story though and it is a story what people should care about mostly, i have not yet finished the game yet and i am about an hour and a half in, but i feel i have seen what there is to see.
    If being a silent slow paced drone in a well rendered English village trying to find out not where everyone is (clues in the title) but how, then this might be for you.
    Download it while its free and give it a whirl, if you don't like it, i guess you cant complain too much as it is free.
    1 last gripe though - that light is...well, a light. Why can it not pass through me, why does it need to be in my way?    … Expand

    on my original play through i wasn't highly impressed. i really like Dear Esther so i was looking forward to this, it's a bit confusing and the "motion" sensor story elements are tricky to get to register. on my second play i liked it a bit better. was a fairly easy platinum with a guide. the story is fairly interesting, it's a pretty game, and the soundtrack is top notch.

    Stunning looking game, but it falls flat in every department.
    Storyline is not interesting at all. The graphics and the music are pretty good but the slow movement just ended up killing this game for me.
    It's a gigantic regret i have, because i expected much more than this.

    I can tell they worked really hard on this game. Nevertheless I see it falling very short. I fail to fully understand it. That's not so much the issue as the fact I think The Chinese Room doesn't even understand the game. The game leaves nothing but more questions. That makes it a complete waste of the time. The only thing this game had was it's story, yet it never really gives you the full story.

But nope, you can only press x and get halted by bushes and 2 foot fences. The abundance of this game is to walk around and listen to audio tracks or watch light figures of dead people talking. There are only 3 things to really do, walk, open doors, and press x. You don't do anything really substantial, heck, you can't even jump/crouch/ or interact with barely anything. 8/10 for it's open world visuals and story, 3/10 for game play.… Expand

It has the best towel physics ever seen in a videogame, as well as the most impressively slow walking speed ever. Even running feels like you have treacle under your feet. The game's focus, is clearly its narrative, which is mildly interesting and has enough mystery to push you through the slog. Is the ending worthwhile? I'm not quite sure.

    It felt like a genuinely nice break escape from the real world, being in a place where you literally only need to worry about holding an analogue stick down, but this doesn't make it a particularly great game.    … Expand

    This is a very slow and boring game. The graphics really amazing, and the soundtrack is very magical. But those alone cannot make a good game or even a good story.

I played through the whole game with my dad and we both thought the story was very interesting. You may be thinking "If I enjoyed this game so much, why did I score this a 4?". In Everybody's Gone To Rapture, you are cast as a cripple and    I don't know where to begin... I won't spoil any plot details but I will give you some specifics.

    In Everybody's Gone To Rapture, you are cast as a cripple and tasked with walking about 3 miles. This includes having to use stairs, which you do so with great bravery but at a snails pace.

    To save on resources, (development effort) the characters in this little drama are ethereal - they are also thoroughly humdrum and unremarkable save for the fact that they are no longer living people. To save on resources, there are false walls everywhere. You want to open that door? Nope, you can't. Oh, but you can open 'this' door - next to it.

    Utter, utter fresh cat faeces. Laid bare in a litter tray, with a knife and fork next to them, sold on the PlayStation Store, made by The Chinese Room.

    I have never felt more ripped off. I really want my £12 refunding.

    Another non game type 'game'. best described as a walking simulator with some really badly written fiction interspered. There is zero interactivity with the admittedly beautiful game world, so you are not really a player, but rather an observer who can choose what to observe when.

    It gets 3 because it is stunningly beautiful, and with a VR helmet may provide some escapism.     There really isn't much to do in this game. I was very disappointed in the lack of interaction you can do with items around the map. The game really is just walking around and listening to other people talking..... that's it. The visuals are beautiful and the story is meh.... I only write "meh" because its cliche and predictable.     A pretty underwhelming walking simulator. I'm not averse to the genre, I quite liked Gone Home. But this game doesn't even come close to being engaging: the story is pretty simple and you'll guess pretty much what's going on halfway through the game. If they would at least go for a shift in tone from time to time (like horror), but the whole affair feels pretty one-note unfortunately TheA pretty underwhelming walking simulator.     Horrible "game" that is not a game at all. Player cannot "do" anything.. in this "game" player is just a floating camera that moves around spectacling, doing nothing else. After you float around for awhile and see a number of dialogues between ghosts of gone people, the "game" is over. I want my money back! :(

    I will start with the only good thing - the graphics. They are super nice but it goes downhill from there.
    Story is bland as it could be, it does not even follow the rules of classic story telling so it is really hard to keep attention.

    This one unfortunately has neither and to top it of it has horrible controls. To make the game longer the developers probably thought it would be a good idea to slow the main character down as much as they could and it is unbearable. Sometimes you feel like walking underwater.     First off I have played their other games (Dear Esther and A Machine for Pigs) and enjoyed both of them. This game however, I find incredibly boring in comparison. The world is pretty damn boring. Just some houses and crap. The light you follow and the light that shows the characters is meh and poorly done. IGN gave this game 8.0 out of 10 even though the development team admits “the only fail state in the game is if the player doesn’t care.” Well, I'm here to say caring will only get you so far in completing the EVERYONE GONE TO THE RAPTURE experience. You will also need stimulants.

    In order to get this title to the point where I would feel comfortable actually calling it a game, the developers would've been wise to offer some concrete objectives and other conventional gaming aspects. By design, EGTTR is more like a "walking sim" with an abundance of emotional baggage. It plays out more like a very, very slow paced e-novel with only minor differences in play through depending on the order that you choose to progress across the town and countryside.

    In DEAR ESTHER, the Chinese Room's glitchy previous title, they offered flag collection tasks as well as other standard game play conventions like object manipulation and problem solving. Some structures like this to assist in solving the mystery of RAPTURE or a real presence of danger to the player would have added greatly.

    That said, I've given 4 out of 10 stars because the environments are beautifully constructed and the story is enhanced by a haunting soundtrack.

    I sincerely hope this studio is able to continue together. I feel, in spite of the troubled titles so far, it's clear to see the potential for this small crew. With a solid game idea built around their obvious skills, they could be the independent crew that gives us the next DISHONOURED or PORTAL    … Expand

    as others have said...am slightly confused - one by the high scores some are giving this and two how anyone can have the cheek to call it a game! graphically it is very pretty and the soundtrack does enhance the emotional content of the "game". It's just walking around slowly, just more boring. You can speed up your walking pace a little by holding down R2 until you get cramps in your finger, but that doesn't make the game any better.     This game is a pretentious walking simulator. It hides behind atmosphere and gorgeous graphics, but, ultimately the experience boils down to a glorified platinum trophy hunt. Slow walking speed is infuriating and the story is, well, predictable from the title. It's not good.

    First off, this is not a game. This is a tech demo. It is very impressive and pretty to look at. I enjoyed exploring the environments and I appreciate the work that went into creating such an achievement, which is why I gave it a point. Once in a while you tilt your controller and a cutscene of ... yeah.... balls of light... starts, and you get some part of the underlying story based on a dialogue between... yeah... balls of light...

    In this software, you can interact with about a handful of items, including SOME doors, SOME gates, SOME telephones, and radios. Great great, that's exactly what I paid for.

    Before going on further tirade on how much this product sucks, I'll just leave you with this:

The radios are basically the same as the light balls, just play the voice of some dead person. Just in case you were wondering, the story is not interesting or intriguing at all. It's a very generic "end of the world" scenario which is further damaged by the inability to care about any of the characters/light balls. This is one of the worst non-interactive non-games I've ever had the misfortune of spending money on.… Expand

    Boring, unskippable cutscenes and dialogue, the most frustrating thing is how slow you move and the waypoint makes you do circles, this should only take a few minutes to beat but with how slow you are it takes a few hours.

Honestly I only completed Everybody's Gone to the Rapture because it was a free download on the 7 day trial of PS now. And it is essentially an easy platinum. Even games similar to this have some kind of puzzle solving or something to make it interesting.

    I enjoy a good walking simulator, but his was not a good walking simulator. This game is so overrated. Since many have already complained about the slow walking and bad direction (with the light orb) I'll skip that and talk about the terrible characters. There's a love triangle between Kate, a black American who moves here with her husband and colleague to do research, Stephen who grew up in the town and returns with his newlywed Kate and Lizzie, his lover and fiance before he moved to America. Kate is portrayed as a genius who loves Stephen, but feels the town's community doesn't accept her, save his uncle Frank and may have gone crazy following this light that came out of the radio frequencies. Kate behaves like a smart ass smug person when seen in interactions with many of the other characters which makes me wonder if they wanted her to be a sympathetic character or not. Stephen clearly wasn't because he's terrible. He gets married and then moves home and starts an affair with Lizzie that leads to pregnancy. I have no problem with following unlikable or immoral characters, I just feel like an end of the world game should have some redeeming characters to pull emotion from. Instead we get that from a few side characters who don't move the story along at all, so what we have left is this ugly lot of people. Stephen is also the one who kills everyone so was it even a rapture or did the town get cancer from being surrounded by radio towers? They get nosebleeds and headaches and even the doc says at the phone by his office that it was cancer. So did Kate just go crazy and Stephen driven mad too by all his bad decisions and seeing everyone get sick after they begin research? I'm not even sure how long they were in town before the calamity or even before they found their light orb. Some cancers can also make people see lights flashing and moving so I'm gonna say cancer paranoia and Stephen killed this town. Why else would you be walking around if the whole world ended? The voice actors were fine but there's so little chemistry between Kate and Stephen and their newlyweds. He says to her that she thinks she's superior to the townfolk, but then before he dies, defends her and says she's smarter than the rest of them when confronted by another guy in town (can't remember his name, oh well). He works both women to try to hold onto them both but at what end? This game is also not very sci-fi at all. I thought it'd be like a fallout type scenario where they are one of the last towns to go so they're trying to say their goodbyes and make final ammends before moving on, and you kinda got left behind and maybe figure out how it happened and it just turns out that people got sick and one idiot decided the only way to fix it was to kill the whole town. Theoretically, if it was something killing them through the radios and phones, wouldn't it have gotten everywhere already? He even tells the thing that he killed everyone so it would have no one to give it company. Just so **** dumb. This game is clearly about emotion, but you get none from me. Mislead me with a story about science and humanity only to have no science in it except some bs philosophy at the end, characters I can't pity or stand and a score that confirms they think they really made a compelling and thoughtful game. The music is beautiful, so is the environment, but that's really the only kudos I can give to this complete waste of time. I'd rather play a **** David Cage game than this ever again and thank God I didn't pay a cent to experience this.    … Expand

There is probably some sort of system to it, but this is one of those irritating games that tries to be artsy by not explaining anything that you are supposed to be doing.

    The things I like about Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture are many: the self-paced discovery and chronological asymmetry, the significance of entangling yourself in a visually “complete” environment, the poignance of a well-crafted, well-delivered character exchange. I’m just not sure how often I’d want to repeat the experience.

    The slow, idyllic exploration, paired by some good narrative make Everybody's gone to the Rapture something that should be played, but only by those with patience. It's a sluggish walk to the end, that pays off, but probably not enough for many players.
