    Despite a couple of negative aspects, if you are fans of the gangster genre, strategy and management, Empire of Sin is going to make you an offer that you will not be able to refuse.

    While it is not a bad game, Empire of Sin is sometimes disappointing in that it fails to give shape to complementary ideas that could have been good. If the first hours in the game are rather pleasant and that we take pleasure in growing his empire of crime, once the management mechanics are assimilated, the game goes on autopilot. In addition, he proves too unconvincing in his fights, conventional, sometimes buggy and which often seem interminable, because too repetitive and not very nervous. Not uninteresting then, but not as balanced or entertaining as one would have hoped.

    Empire of Sin is a poor and skeleton-thin management game at its core with complicated systems, menus, and tutorials that do a poor job at getting you acclimated to the experience. Add on top of that a library worth of bugs that force you to restart, ruin pivotal moments of the game, and just make the experience more frustrating and you have a game that is not worth even worth a slight bit of consideration. Empire of Sin is a massive disappointment.

    Great concept, horrible execution – that’s the long and short of it. Repetitive levels, gameplay depending on chance over skill, bugs that regularly force you to reload old save files… Empire of Sin just isn’t very good.

    The potential for an exciting period strategy game is clear but that only makes the buggy mess of unbalanced combat and simplistic tactical decisions all the more frustrating.

    Oh dear. Empire of Sin has a fantastic idea at its core, and the jolly soundtrack perfectly complements the over the top character designs. But the game is a technical mess, littered with a spectacular array of bugs, and crippled by poor design choices that derail whatever little momentum the game may otherwise have had. Empire of Sin? They should have called it Buggy Malone.

    In a world of monsters and whimsical mages and dwarves it was about time we got a real life strategy game for mafia fans (not talking the Mafia franchise, I am talking la familia!).
    Yeah the launch was far from good but seriously, which launch is! Even the big ones continuously screw that up (hello Cyberpunk, hello Blizzard).
    But the gameplay is so much fun, the characters have so much life in them (the ones based on real life gangsters and the fictitious ones).
    And if you want a kickass gaming community, go and find them on Discord!
    Gamers and fans of games (not haters and trolls) come together there and share their thoughts, Romerogames listens and interacts, There is a corner for the history nerds - like for real, this game has it all.
    They are aware of their shortcomings, Paradox is streaming on Twitch every other week, they constantly bring out new patches.
    Personally, I didn't run into a game breaking bug since launch and the ones I've encountered can be easily forgiven.

    So far I am having a blast. For this to have been made by a team of thirty people is quite impressive. The systems are in depth and enjoyable. Booze storage maxed? Producing more than you can use? Set up a weekly agreement to sell some off to a rival family.

    I will update my review once I complete a play through but I wanted to chime in to maybe encourage someone to give the game a shot. I see many reviews that are posted after only a few hours of game play and I don't think that is near enough time to make an accurate assessment. So far I am loving it.    … Expand

    I've been following this for a while, checking updates, release dates, gameplay videos etc. Everything sounded and looked so cool! A mix of empire simulator with X-COM tactical gameplay.

    I'm afraid everything falls apart once you actually start the game. it feels rushed, unpolished, buggy, unbalanced. Like most of its systems either don't make sense or don't work at all. This games needs more work, more time. It should not have been released in this state, because the idea behind it is simply AMAZING.

    I don't think anyone should get this at full price - specially with all that premium and deluxe editions bullsh*t. For anyone that is still curious, my advice would be to wait a while, until it gets patched or at least a discount. The gamer is not worth that full price. Not with so many amazing games being released right now.

    I do hope they keep supporting it, though. The game has the potential to be incredible.    … Expand

    Frustratingly bugged and badly optimised. In my 10-15h gametime the game crashed atleast 20 times, not counting the crashes on restart. Bossbattles are either laughable easy or downright unfair. You can have a boss run into the middle of your group for a easy kill or them killing 3 of your best guys instantly without you having a turn to move them.

    Short story. The game has some good ideas and design but suffers from horrible balancing, constant crashes and way to many bugs. But still despite my hate i keep restarting the game..

    If you wanna buy it i recommend buying it after a couple months as the latest patch broke more then it fixed.    … Expand

However, it’s so damn buggy, every single game I have started have been impossible to follow through. There are some potential, but I am going to put the game in a drawer and won’t touch it in 6 months. The game is completely broken, I am so disappointed.

It lacks basic features (I can’t compare two weapons side by side in the inventory, what??), its interface is nightmarish (changing a load out for one of your goons and want to switch to another goon? Go all the way back to the map, switch your active goon, go back to the inventory menu). The “big” map is too zoomed in, you can’t just look at it and find your waypoint, you need to scroll it street by street, looking for the marker. My goons randomly stopped following me at some point, so I got into a shootout with 5 guys alone, but when I died, the game condescendingly told me I would’ve lost if not for the tutorial.

    Unbelievably bad.

    On the plus side, the music and visuals were nice.    … Expand
