Now let's talk about the bosses. At first I considered them fine ,I wasnt the biggest fan of them, but they were cool. That kinda changed as I was getting closer the end of the game ,as many MANY bosses were being reused ,even main ones and in the end only 9 bosses proved to be truly unique.

Moving on to another problem ,which is the lategame .I've noticed that the lategame is balanced around meta builds(which can turn the game piss easy) and for me who didnt use one it was kinda harsh ,but I managed.I really think they went kinda overboard with the fights close at the end .Also I was not a fan of the end basically being a boss rush.Nonetheless I really liked some of these fights ,such as maliketh ,radagon ,melania and mohg. This review makes it seem like I dont like the game ,but that's not true, cause it's probably my 10th fav ,I'm just doing a fair critique on it.

To sum things up Elden ring is an amazing experience and non souls fans can get into it more easily compared to otheer souls. i definitely recommend it.

One of the best Open World Games of all time.
It's an instant classic and an absolute pleasure to explore.
From the technical side it's pretty underwhelming though... Performance is honestly terrible and the music isn't as good as DS3 or Bloodborne.

The new features are all good, the jumping, the horse combat, the design of the incredible world, the many unique locations and the attention to detail. It's not a 10 because of the repetition of some of the bosses. I don't know what more you can ask of a game of this type, I found the exploration incredible. 100% recommended.

This game is addictive and f***ing fantastic. It doesn't need to cater to everyone to be a good game, and it shouldn't. I don't wake up every day expecting the world to cater to me. I'm not that self-entitled. I recognize when a game isn't for me. Is it perfect, nope. It has issues, but on a fun factor, it's flawless.

Players who give this game poor ratings are totally unfamiliar with soulslike. This game has a storyline only it is told by characters in the game world and you discover it through exploration. The game is also not perfect because some bosses are simply too easy. But to say that the game is weak because it has too big a world is to be a total ignoramus.

The camera. Jesus Christ, you will get wrecked because of the camera. Some of the bosses move too fast and erractically for the camera to keep up, and so it will either unlock or jerk away will the boss launches an attack from off screen that takes away 80% of your health. This is INCREDIBLY frustrating and to be honest - terrible design.
The platforming sections in that one tower and the sewer.

Other than that, the game is mostly great with a unique blend of RPG-elements and action gameplay. A must play for Souls-fans

Let me preface this with the fact that I (typically) do not like Souls-like games. I find the typical formula to be too tediously difficult with no way to break the tedium due to the relatively closed in spaces and linear nature of their previous titles.

Let me preface this with the fact that I (typically) do not like Souls-like games. I find the typical formula to be too tediously difficult with no way to break the tedium due to the relatively closed in spaces and linear nature of their previous titles.

Elden Ring seems to be the antithesis of this philosophy. Almost from startup you have access to most of an ENORMOUS open world with only subtle hints of where you /should/ go - but even for people who prefer a clear direction because exploration is extremely well rewarded with new gear, more levels, stunning vistas, etc.

True to FromSoft form, this game IS hard - but with the freedom to leave and come back stronger it doesn't feel as tedious or insurmountable as other Souls-like. With previous titles you had to Git Gud to progress, but with Elden Ring, Gitting Gud feels like a natural consequence of simply playing the game. Even if a boss feels impossible (looking at you Maliketh), there are SO many tools at your disposal to eventually overcome it. An amazingly helpful community ready and willing to help overcome any hurdle that proves too high (or if you are looking for a specific piece of gear; patchesemporium & beyondthefog on reddit), summons, and -to my surprise and delight- a simple change of tactics/weapons all prove startling effective. Over 700 hours in across 2 platforms (steam & ps4) and I can very easily see pouring in another 700+; and not regret a single moment. I cannot recommend this game enough. Even if you don't like Souls-like, give this one a chance.

    Cons

    - Mountaintops of Giants feel weirdly balanced compared to the rest of the game

Over ten years of work led to a masterpiece, where Fromsoft used everything they learned to make their biggest and baddest game yet. It would be criminal not to call this game a masterpiece, though a flawed one.

Elden Ring encompasses everything from the previous entries, the good and bad. Way more of the good though, like way, way more. Elden Ring expands on weapon skills from DS3 through Ashes of War. Most weapons are capable of slotting myriad of skills to fit any play style imaginable.

The points of interest on the map are divided into a couple of tiers of locations, signaling their quality. Legacy dungeons are massive sprawling levels where the most work has been put in. They have shortcuts that you can unlock with some diligent exploring and feature the main fights of the game.

Then there are major locations, like Castle Morne, Castle Sol, Caria Manor and a few others. Love and care was put into these locations, but they are nowhere near as expansive and twisted as the Legacy dungeons.

And then there are the minor locations. Caves, crypts, mines, you name it, this game has it. These places vary so heavily in quality it is never sure, if you are getting a banger, like a certain crypt with a Groundhog Day style puzzle, or if you are getting a complete dud with one of the games' many copy and pasted bosses.

Boss design in this game is about as wild in quality as the minor locations. Your main fights against the Shard Bearers are fun occasions that make your blood pump. Some of the minor bosses, especially Crucible Knights for me, put you through fun and challenging fights that will leave you smiling. And then there are the duds.

I swear to god, if I see another Tree Spirit in my life I will hurl. The first dragon fight is fun and exhilarating and fulfills the knight fantasy of charging a dragon on a horse fantastically. The twentieth dragon you fight has you sigh and get it over with. Whoever designed the first Royal Revenant should be fired. And the person that decided to copy and paste him twenty times over should never work in the industry again. Topping off these duds is the DS2 mindset of doubling the amount of bosses in the room and calling it done. The fight against the three Crystalians is the lowest point of this game for me.

After getting all that off my chest, Elden Ring shines on a second playthrough and on. Aka, once you know where the things you want are, you can just run for them and ignore everything you do not want to deal with.

More than ever, Elden Ring is the Fromsoft game where you dictate the difficulty, where in the older games you were forced to go one of three directions to continue, if you feel like the place that will continue the story is too big a hassle, you can just walk a random direction, gain a couple levels, get new tools to deal with it and then triumph.

So, Elden Ring. Fromsofts biggest game yet. A flawed masterpiece that deserves all the praise it got and more. By the way I talk about it you might think I hate this game. But no. Elden Ring is my game of 2022. It has given me so much to love and so much to think about for the last year, that I personally think it will stand the test of time as one of gaming's greatest achievements.

These Ashes are maybe the only new invetion Elden ring came up with. In my opinion the open world is way too big, and looks blunt at so many places. combat on horse isn't fun at all and dungeons like the most bosses are repetetive like hell. Seriously dungeons are the worst. Maybe 5 % of them are different to others and they all contain a boss we have already seen before somewhere. Anyway beside the justified critic (according to me) elden ring is a great game. It shines in common FromSoftware-strengthes: Character and monster design, beautifull environment (legacy dungeons like academia, stormveil castle or house volcano) and a great combat system with awesome bossfights. If you cut away 90 % of all dungeons (because they are all the same) and cut down the open world to a half i would defenitely say this is a masterpiece, otherwise it's a solid fun game with strengths and weaknesses. There are minor flaws like the need to play the game with a guide with how easy it is to break quest lines.

Some of the low level dungeon bosses are just plain terrible. Not difficult. Not imaginative.

The game has a high difficulty curve to start off with about till the point you get to Stormveil Castle. Then the game gets ridiculously easy through the middle until you start wrapping up content around the Capital city and spikes way further than it should and does not let up for the remainder of the game. Again, being a maso/core title you want an difficult ending but it should be within reason and not force you to have to rebuild your character in order to match a specific build. Thats one of From Softs biggest flaws in design. Forcing you to play a certain way even if its not technically required but the inflated difficulty leaves you little other option.

Another complaint is the clearly cut content and some of the dropped ideas. It also would have been nice to focus some development on archery from horseback which is practically impossible. Hopefully if there is an Elden Ring 2 it will add that cause with the addition of the horse that was a major oversight.

Also the quests could be a bit more intuitive. We dont want WoW/GTA holding your hand but we also dont want MYST level hands off either.

But all in all this is the most polished and closest to perfect offering we have gotten from FS. For all its flaws this is 2022s game of the year. Hands down.

A technical feat given how smoothly it plays on first generation PS4s. You wont find a deeper or more immersive game on PS4. If you dont sink at least 100/200 hours of your life into this world you are doing it wrong. I literally capped my play through at 999h 59m 59s and still have dozens of bosses to work through and content left to explore.

If you are capable of handing FromSoft type of games then there is no excuse for you to NOT have Elden Ring.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is quite the addition to From Soft's repertoire. The weapon art system from DS3 has been tweaked and is now customizable with certain weapons and weapon types to the point that a shield is a viable weapon but not so broken that one weapon art is busted over all else (despite all the community memes). There is a newly placed emphasis on cooperative play which I believe makes this edition a bit more open to newer players of this style of game. The only network issues I had in the initial release was that just below half of all times I was summoned by other players caused an error that closed out my game but with newer patches this error is a rarity. The variety of bosses is great even though some are rehashed but not nearly as aggregious as Bloodborne's Chalice Dungeons. Another downer, however, would be the fact that with this vast open world, it is hard to either find or progress the iconic NPC questlines and it can be very easy to lock yourself out of said questlines without independent research being done. Overall though, this game was a blast to go through as are most of From Software's games and it makes a mighty installation to their library. Expand

Absolutely Astonishing Game, truly a Masterpiece. Only the Performance isn't as good on the ps4 as it is on the next gen consoles. If you ignore this point, its equally good to the other versions and from a gameplay point of view its almost flawless. I would still highly recommend it for ps4 even though it has some flaws with the performance

I can however understand the frustration of casual gamers, this kind of game is not for everyone.
it requires the pleasure of persevering, the pleasure of learning and improving yourself through the struggle and the unknown.

A "great" game can gather most people's opinion, but a "masterpiece" can sometime divide.

I will conclude by saying this. This game has so mush love put into it, it has a soul... and the emotion you feel as you struggle in this world will give you one of the most satisfying feeling you will ever have in a video game after succeeding.

That's what I want a game to be, that's what I call Art.

Playing this game felt like a love letter from FromSoftware. The open world is the newest aspect this souls-like offers and it's done masterfully, there is a lot to explore and a lot to intrigue you to explore. However, this is also a fatal flaw of Elden Ring, as on subsequent playthroughs this allure for exploration is extinguished, as the excitement and wonder of discovering new places and dungeons is exclusive to your first playthrough (except of course of the areas you missed, which is probable).

I love that there is a myriad of builds you can try with the various weapons and spells.

This game doesn't necessarily feel like a pioneer in its genre, but a statement of everything that has come before in its genre, both the good and the bad, but 95% of the time the good.

Been a while since I visited this site, but I wanted to talk about this game.

FromSoft's latest masterpiece doesn't really need very much introduction, especially since it had become THE most popular game in the "SoulsBorne" series of games that they've produced. Everyone knows (and probably expects) that it's a challenging, yet rewarding, experience that will last from when you first pick up the controller to the final time you put it down (which could very will be a long time away). You will explore, fight, die, and triumph over the odds, meeting interesting (and sometimes shady) characters that have their own agendas that may go with or against your own, as you have previously in other games under FromSoft's banner.

However, what sets this apart from other games in the series is the big genre addition it was given; Open-World. While previous titles did have exploration as part of the ethos (as finding gear and items will GREATLY increase your chances of survival), the games have always been structured as mostly semi-linear designs (with Demon's Souls being the closest to a linear style game). Many of them have been described to be akin to a Metroidvania (which I've recently began to disagree with, due to the many points of no return without teleporting), but it's very clear that despite the large area a player could see across the horizon, said player would likely only be able to explore a portion of it, with the rest being entirely out of bounds/blocked off/impossible to get to. General locations obviously could be seen and later explored, but restrictions are still placed that aren't immediately noticed (due to how well those games were structured, masking the linearity of the design).

Elden Ring, however, removes those borders. If you can see it, be a general location or a specific one, you can go there. The only borders that ever seem to be present are shore-lines at coasts around the country sides. The vast lakes, plains, mountains, valleys, beaches, hills, and plateaus that once served as background dressing that the player would only ever set foot on for a fraction of what was shown is now entirely open, explorable, and populated with a variety of creatures, items, materials, and points of interest, all of which are rarely shown on the map until you've physically come across it or mark.ed it down yourself. Even repeated sites, such as shacks, caves, crypts, ruins, or camps almost always feel different with different enemies, set ups, items, and significance to your journey. You'll never run into a location in this game and deal with it the exact same way, unlike most other open world games. Furthermore, due to how the game-world is structured, it's no longer impossible to be entirely stuck when hitting a "brick wall" (a challenge too high compared to your skills/stats), because now you can just... go literally any other direction, and find something else to do. That said, this also comes at the cost of meandering quite a bit around the vast landscapes of the "Lands Between", sometimes getting lost in over-leveled areas, or even indulging too much on exploration and resource gathering that you end up overpowering yourself and steam-rolling over anything in your path, which all can create a wildly inconsistent difficulty structure. Then again, because of the way it's built, it just means it really is up to you on how far and how often you want to go off the beaten path, how much you want to avoid progressing the story, and how much you want to challenge/unchallenge yourself.

Personally, it's one of my absolute favorite things about the game. I haven't felt this joyful, cautious, terrified, curious, anxious, awestruck, or anything else in between in an open world type game in a long time, entirely satisfying my desire to explore every nook and cranny I can find, no matter how mundane.

This isn't to say they've done away with the tight, inter-connectivity they had in previous games. Major points of interest (for example; Stormveil Castle), and smaller dungeons such as caves and crypts, are still very tightly and deliberately designed in the same style any SoulsBorne vet would be used to; semi-linear, interwoven and interconnected corridors and rooms, with secrets and alternate paths very carefully placed, with an attention to give hints to the player on how to get somewhere without any hand=holding.

Honestly, the only real major criticism I could give the game would have to be the heavy pop-in after you respawn/teleport to a resting place, as well as the frame-rate stutter when there's too much going on at once (seems to be less present in the PS5 version, but I'm not 100% sure on that). However, it doesn't quite detract from the gameplay, and the over all look of the game, even when just journeying from one end of the massive world map to the other, is absolutely incredible.

It will be a long time before I let this game lay down to rest. Happy Hunting, potential Elden Lords.

The artistic, design, sound, exploration, immersion, combat, lore, enemy/area/boss/weapon/spell variety and size of the world are literally off the charts. It's also challenging while not being unfair and it gives you options to trivialise absolutely anything if you have no interest in the challenge. If they had charged $100 (EA or Ubisoft would have) it would be understandable but at 60 it's a steal. This game is almost certainly going to win GOTY 2022. Expand

GOTY of 2022 for sure, but I'll still pick Sekiro over Elden Ring.

Elden Ring is the first game I've ever pre-ordered due to expectation to see more of Sekiro in the game but turns out its more into Dark Souls style.

Don't get me wrong, Although i hate Dark Souls but this game is very great! Its the most pleasing exploration game I've ever played. Many things to discovered and room to improve your character as well as variation to improve it.

It still bring the gene of FromSoftware as they are the best at creating the best rewarding game. I can feel I've achieved or obtain something in every moment I play this game which not easy to accomplish in gaming nowadays.

The world design is fascinating and surprisingly the world of Elden Ring is way too massive but surely not empty like in other open world game. Although, the world is filled with dangerous in every corner so the feel of getting cautious is always there.

The reason I'll still pick Sekiro over Elden Ring is due to its combat system and story. Sekiro is fast-paced where Elden Ring is kinda slow and the combat is Sekiro is very fluid with animation of finishing kill to complement that. Beating the boss in Sekiro feels like an achievement while in Elden Ring most of it only the matter of you overpowering the boss (well, not all of them). In Sekiro you are cautiously aggressive while in Elden Ring is more aggressively cautious.

Just hope FromSoftware could come with another Sekiro game.

Other than that, FromSoftware successfully create a rich and meaningful open world in their 1st attempt with more understandable story this time around. On my 2nd play-through now as I keep killing every NPC that I met on my 1st run --"

Unexpectedly enough, despite being FromSoftware's first Open World game, the open world in Elden Ring is quite possibly the best open world I've seen in a videogame... and that's mind-blowing. Seriously though, Elden Ring's open world proves how talented the developers at FromSoftware are; it has an overwhelming amount of optional content and surprises, the map size is absolutely massive, the world design is fascinating and the sense of freedom & exploration is simply unmatched, however, it's not necessarily perfect; the catacombs are repetitive and some bosses are re-used multiple times.
On top of the open world though, Elden Ring features the Legacy Dungeons; big areas that follow the traditional, complex level design of Dark Souls.
The gameplay in Elden Ring is Dark Souls III's gameplay but much better in literally every way + some additional mechanics to make things more accessible, even though the camera is still awkward at times.
The visuals are beautiful, the environments are breathtaking and the music is incredible.
Also, there's an endless amount of different weapons, armor sets, spells and items for unique builds.
Lastly, the bosses - particularly the Demigods - are some of the most spectacular and challenging bosses I've ever seen in a videogame.

    Pros:
+ Huge map filled with content
    + Engaging & rewarding exploration
    + Wonderful level design
+ Addictive & diverse gameplay with accessible mechanics

In the graphics department the 'legacy dungeons' feel more detailed than the open world but considering the PS4's old age it's no surprise. I'm 25 hours in so I've probably barely touched the surface yet this game is making me want to get back to the game... just a few more minutes just to realize a few hours have passed again; it's just so satisfying. Not all good news though, for me the major drawbacks are the crafting system which feels like a bad designed idea. I've watched several streamers play the game and most of them seem to have their fun drop as the game goes and their only drive to finish the game is to satisfy their spectators. They are relieved when they finish the game but it is easy to see their bittersweetness regarding the game, not one of them reacted how anyone would react to a 9.6 rated game.

The game set itself high, and deserves most of the attention it gets, but a 10? not really. The first 20 hours I was "Wow, best game ever" too, but as you go on, it is more like "I wish I had more fun playing this".

First game I've ever platinum with over 200 hours of gameplay. This game is a masterpiece, made me want to explore every nook and cranny like no other. I had super high expectations and even then, it managed to surpass them. I've played all of fromsoft games, they managed to create the game of the decade.

The sheer size of the world and its ability to show the player new things even hundreds of hours in is a monumental achievement. In fact the size might be a detriment to the game because in the last stretch the game does begin to crumble a bit. Some of the gameplay limitations also rear their head towards the end, where all roads and playstyles must be funneled into the late-game story content. Still, even with some flaws and scars Elden Ring feels at most times like the epic and monumental game it is trying to be.

Elden Ring is a well-polished open-world adventure. Much of it is customizable to player preferences. From character design to which way to explore first, and more. The weapons and armaments are many. The game encourages various builds in concert with fight styles, from melee, to range, to a mix.

Elden Ring is a well-polished open-world adventure. Much of it is customizable to player preferences. From character design to which way to explore first, and more. The weapons and armaments are many. The game encourages various builds in concert with fight styles, from melee, to range, to a mix.

The game is known for difficulty, yet—despite the tendency of some to confuse difficulty with excellence—it offers the player a couple different ways to succeed. The first is obviously to develop skill, and for many players, this means much trial and error, learning boss patterns, and eventually finding a rhythm by which to win. A second method includes some of the first but also includes levelling-up before returning to a difficult boss or area. This is a great option that make it open to a larger variety of skill levels without flipping an “easy” switch per se.

Much of the visuals, environments, and boss appearances are intricate and cinematic. Exploration is encouraged and rewarding, finding new places, new save points, new caves, new powerups, etc. The game does well to follow the 30-second rule of filling its world with enough intrigue to never really get boring. The exploration and variety of NPCs, quests, powerups, places, etc. is the strength of this game. The experience is largely driven by where the player wants to go, with a main questline available at all times.

Despite all the adventurous and customizable positives in this game, it is far from perfect, despite such reviews.

What makes many of the boss fights difficult is a “one hit kill” move. A player may often methodically maneuver through a fight for several minutes and then fall to an “instant kill” only to lose all that time and effort for what amounts to a “cheap” move that often can only be anticipated by trial and error. Sometimes, the blow might come so out of nowhere, you won’t even know why you died, such as with the second phase of the Radahn fight if you happened to have the camera in the wrong direction during a mid-fight breather. Most fights have minimal cerebral solutions. Many don’t feel like they beat you in an even fight. They only beat you because of a knockout punch, including ones that put you (or your horse) in stunlock to then finish you with additional follow-ups. At the end of the day, “pattern” based bosses with the “one-hit” are rather cheap designs. It’s almost an illusion of difficulty, where a fight seems somewhat fair and a good rumble until they get in the “cheap shot” and that’s often the only thing that consistenly makes them difficult.

Also, too many games, including Elden Ring, create difficulty in part by forbidding “cancellation” of a move. Part of the game’s challenge is anticipating your melee or magic “wind up” time and delivery. This can last up to several seconds. It leaves your character vulnerable if hit meanwhile. And you can’t cancel out of it if you, the player, actually sees the interruption in time and has the reflexes to cancel. The controller will actually be impotent until the animation is complete. This mechanic doesn’t feel natural, as a real person would be able to cancel their own punch.

Another feature in some boss fights that is poor is the bosses that have a second phase that is independent from the first phase’s HP meter. Unless you want to scout out a fight by watching spoiler videos, there is no way to know how much pacing of resources you want to use in a given fight because most of the time, the HP meter you see represents the opponent’s total HP, not some surprise new “refilled” HP bar from a second phase. Things like this just make gameplay aggravating and unfun.

There are many consumable items, like greases or crab meat, that can be crafted or purchased and used as buffs. These last for a period of time. However, if you are killed, these are lost forever. They are not like runes you can at least have a chance to recover after you are killed. It made 1-time use items overly precious. Your inventory doesn’t return to what it was before a fight or last save. And with so many of the fights being trial and error, it’s very easy to burn through many such items for naught. Few tutorials seem to utilize these, either. The game simply doesn’t encourage them because of it’s loyalty to difficulty and unforgiving gameplay.

As a side note, the game creates a fictional world of peculiar, amorality. It helps to be a spiritually knowledgable or careful person when playing the game. Because in Elden Ring, it seems the lines between good and evil are often quite blurred, to the point where NPCs ask strangely worded things like “will you serve the witch?” which in base reality would be clearly unwise to assuage. But the game seems to blur or alter the meaning of things like witches, blasphemy, and other spiritual terms, while yet insisting on borrowing from traditional spiritual language.

The Game is really good overall, but is not better than Bloodborne and even ds3 for me, and i Will say why, the positive stuff, the Gameplay is soo good, the system of the progretion is better than ever, now upgrade stars to level 60 is worth It, the bosses are solid and the best part, the open world, is huge with a lot of content, you can explore everywhere and find a lot of stuff, with a lot of dungeons, that, i Will say the negativo aspect about them, but and the the Game until you beat morgott ( this is why i put a spoiler alerta ) is 10/10, but, there is some problema, the layouts of the dungeons are, way, too repetitive, the bosses are soo reused, why there is more than 10 tree avatares ? Why is Nine night Calvary ? Why is more than ten dragons ? Why main bosses are reused as well ? And the worst part beggins now, the Game past leyndell, the Game is soo poorly balanced, i want a reason of why most of the enemies three ahora you even with 40 vigor, i mean, you can beat every dark souls Game with like 25 vigor, but in elden ring, 40 vigor feels like not enought, and, i don't like that you have toincrease a lot one stat or you are dead, and the bosses OMG, fire giant sucks, he have more HP than most of the ds1 bosses hp conbined, is boring and deals ridiculous damage, soo, you have to upgrade vigor enought levels to not get one shoted, the god skin duo is literally the worst Boss in the series, at least bed of chavos have a little bit of originallity and the design was unique to be fair, but this is a mesa that don't work as a gank duo, the bosses alone are really good, specially the apóstol, that is the best miniboss in the Game, maliketh is awfully balanced, is like, Well, he have not too much hp, soo, let's make that he can one shot easilly the player with attacks that let's you stunned forever, like why ? Is not even fair, and malenia, Who banave that ? Well, she have thes same problem than a lot of other bosses, she is really fast, but still hits like a giant, if not harder, and she can heals, lo attacks and more HP that the halingtree, Well, a lot of bosses also likes Dodge all of your attacks and start attacking like a machine with poor Windows to hit them, Dodge is not Well rewarded, but is true that your posicion matters more than ever, anyway, this is almost a perfect Game, but for some reason, they balance this Game like poop and the bosses are like bloodborne spped qhile you are inds3 speed, but besides of that is another amazing Game of frosoftware

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. as a first time player of soulslike games, this is by far one of the most addictive games i've played in the past few years, say for Doom Eternal.
the bosses are great, with the one exception being Melania, blade of gimmicky garbage.
the enemies are fantastic, say for every single type of dog.
and this is the first game in a while that actually encourages multiclassing, so i got to have a lot more fun with feeling out my build.
there are still a few issues with wonky fall damage, a few outright unfun bosses, and a few enemies or hazards that just can't be blocked or dodged, which is why it isn't a 10/10 for me, but it's still gotta be one of the best games i've experienced in a while.

Probably my favorite souls game. Love the updated graphics, mechanics, and open world. Still wish there was more diversity in the games, besides just killing enemies or wish the enemies didn't respawn. Or a different way of collecting souls/currency. I enjoyed the first 40 hours or so, but the game just felt too repetitive of a gameplay loop for such a huge game.

Beautiful world design, awesome battles, great character design. I only give it a 9 out of ten instead of the full 10 out of ten, because for a newbie like me, it doesn't tell me where to go or what to do after I've completed a boss or objective. The story is complicated as hell but it's definetly my game of the year. Don't miss out on this awesomeness!

Elden Ring is a truly great game and a definite contender for Game of the Year, and probably the favorite to win the award at this point in the year.

My biggest negative of the game is the change in music the game uses. In other From Soft games there is no music while you're exploring, just your footsteps and the sounds of monsters and combat, and then when the music kicks it, so does the dread and realization that you're about to get your butt kicked. The music in older games sticks out more because of this and becomes more memorable. Other negatives are slight balance issues, performance issues regarding frame rates (dying to due to frame rate drops in a boss fight can be quite frustrating), and hit box/hit registration; while hit boxes are in general better compared to older games, the open world aspect can lead to environments really messing up hit boxes and hit registration.

Despite these flaws, I'm giving this game a 10/10 due to everything it does so right and so well. The best boss designs in the game are absolute *chef's kiss* and jaw dropping. The environment diversity is gorgeous and original. There is a massive amount of weapons, spells, incantations, weapon arts, et cetera, and just so many ways to play the game with all the different items and such. There is so much fantastic content in this game; where certain game companies (*cough* Ubisoft *cough*), From Soft has filled this game with boss fight after boss fight after boss fight, and then all the weapons, armor, spells, etc. that I mentioned before. Aesthetic is what From Soft does best, and Elden Ring oozes style and creativity like an open wound oozes blood. The game is just beautiful.

While the game is not perfect, it is still an absolute masterpiece, and I cannot wait to put hundreds of more hours in as I create more characters, play new builds, and experience as much as possible. Git gud, and don't you dare go hollow!

I felt like the map could have been utilized more because I felt tricked into some boss fights only to get frustrated and lose runes. Not a big deal, just an annoyance. Especially the Roundtable place when it said I would not be combatting anyone only to find that in a certain area of the Roundtable (when you drop down), you are. I found that to be very irritating because there was also no way to back out of that area. But, the game as a whole is very well done and I do appreciate the work that went into it. It is very fun to play, despite some flaws.
