My first soul’s experience I enjoyed the game not the best game ever and dosent nail it’s open world as it feels empty like a shallow attempt at Zelda breath of the wilds format

It's a decent game. I don't get the hype that much though. There is basically no story. You just roam around the map without really knowing what's going on.

First I would like to start by saying that giving this game a ten is not serious and giving it a 0 just because you are pissed at it is childish.
I have always been a very big fan of the Soulborne serie, I finished every one of them multiple times these are awesome games.
Elden Ring is a good game but its not great, for me its kind of a deception. Dont get me wrong the gameplay mechanic

I have always been a very big fan of the Soulborne serie, I finished every one of them multiple times these are awesome games.
Elden Ring is a good game but its not great, for me its kind of a deception.
Dont get me wrong the gameplay mechanic is good, the graphic are fine, some environments are beautifull to watch and I like the idea of an open world soul games, I always wanted that.

One major problem is, its not rewarding, the ennemies are not giving anything worth the time it take to kill them including the boss, its grindy to a point that it is boring just to level up once.
That make the random coop to help peoples killing their boss almost useless.
Many hard and massives ennemies are giving around 50 runes (souls) even if they take 5 minutes to kill, when you need aroung 10 000 runes to lvl up its dumb.
Thats why so many peoples are relaying on a stupid runes run like the boulder that drop around 2000 runes when you let it fall of the cliff, what a joke...

Is it me or almost every big monsters, mini boss and main boss have now a sniper attack and an aoe that smash the ground creating a blast of wind destroying everything around them for a 15 feets radius, so many boss are difficult just because of that, its cheap and lame.
There is a lot of giants in the first part of the map and they all do the "Dovahkiin" scream attack that can hurt you and make you fall from your horse even if you are 500 feets away from them.
Many monsters seem to have unlimited stamina and will lend an never ending serie of hits on your face and many of them seem to move like a ninja even if they are obese.

That bring me to the horse, since nothing is worth killing I found myself just running aroung with the horse avoiding the monsters who are not worth my time just to collect items and find dungeons, this make the concept of open world pretty boring to me.

Next the coop, that is my biggest deception in the game, its like the old system, you summon somebody in a restricted zone, kill the boss then they are kicked out of your game.
Me and my friends were mad when we found out that there was a massive fog gate stopping us from getting acces to an entire island just because I killed the boss at the end of the castle, this is pathetic, no evolution whatsoever even for a so call open world.
When you take a look at some great coop game like (Remnant from the Ashes) where you can coop with the same two peoples from start to finish without interruption, getting refreshing health, potions and ammunitions at the checkpoint togetter there is no excuse to give us the same old crappy coop system like in Demon Soul on the ps3.
    This is lazy and weak.

And the checkpoints make no sense at all, sometime you will find two checkpoints close to each other with nothing dangerous between them and sometime you will face hordes of dangerous and aggressives beast hoping to find the next checkpoint 10 miles further.

In conclusion Elden Ring is not bad but its not great, it could have been one of the best game ever but there is too many flaws and stupids concept to make it what it should be.
For me its a 7 that could have been a solid 9, sadly its not.

This is easily the worst game FromSoftware has ever made. If you like to ride around on a horse in a big, empty open world for 50 hours, and you like to run the exact same three copy/paste dungeons with the exact same five copy/paste bosses for 70 hours, then this is the game for you. Then, you continue playing and starts to realize that the game is so unbalanced that hurts. Enemies with too many health, exhausting and loooong combos that kill you with 2-3 moves and a very aggressive behavior, that dont give you a chance to initiate a combo. Really, many enemies in this game have 10000 of poise, and they simply dont feel your hits, then proceed to obliterate you with 2-3 hits, even if you have 43-50 in vitality, alongside the fact that seems that every enemy in this game has some magic ou spell in their moveset, making them almost perfect in combat. All enemies and bosses uses the same strategy, they trick you by fake or prolonging moves that would look very fast and some of them are really fast that you have like 0.3 second to evade or take a literal combo of 30 moves that f*cking kill you.
The world exploration is literally not worthy, you might find some SUPER OP secondary bosses that would give you not enough runes and a useless item. Plus, they are almost the same and the dungeons are almost the same as well, super boring.
FromSoftware tried to create a "easy mode" by letting you catch "Pokemon Souls" and throw them to help you at combat and improve the usage of magic in the early-game, then they ruined the STR and DEX players that wont really care or would use this type of mechanic.
This game really needs a balancing or the majority of the players are not gonna enjoy it. I'v played DS1, DS2 and Bloodborne, they are hard, not unfair as this game is.
Miyazaki proved that he CANNOT create a open-world game and Dark Souls shouldnt be a open-world game. In all games the world is dead and empty of good people but full of boring enemies. Try again later, because this game was a failure.

This game is getting raving reviews from journalists, simply because FromSoft is trendy, and you gotta at least pretend to love them to be in.
Sadly, the truth is that the game is the weakest of the Souls lot. The open world aspect is PS3 era, and so are the game mechanics. And while Fromsoft's visual style was brill back when Bloodborne launched, its all just rather dreary and dismal

As a game its playable, like all souls games, after bit of practice. But like with earlier FromSoft games, it suffers from lack of story and lack of direction and meaningful goals. You just try to get your hero stronger to beat the next boss around, just like you did in previous games, and that is all. Way too basic to last. And as far as cinematics go, they're all pretty clumsy when compared to the utterly brill cinematics of Ghost of Tsushima.
Would I recommend this game to anyone? Well, I loved the older Souls games, and this one, frankly, lacks the magic of them. So no. Wait till it is on sale, as by then they will have, hopefully, polished it up a bit as well.

After playing 129 hours of Elden Ring I've realised I just dont have the constitution for massive open worlds anymore. They are just too big now. The problem, in one word, is 'burnout'. The problem, in one word, is 'burnout'. More is not always more. And if you're like me, you want to see and do everything in every area before moving on, it starts to feel like it will never end. Loose ends and open loops quite literally give me acute anxiety.

With a game as massive and jam-packed as ER the feeling of busily trying to cover every inch of the map becomes overwhelmingly stressful. And it's not to say that fromsoft haven't gone balls out with this game. They def have. It's big, in-depth, connected and mostly awe-inspiring. It's just, well...too much. Especially for a semi functioning adult with other things in life to think about. You can have too much of a good thing.

So, it feels like this game is my life now until I complete it and honestly I dont think I want to even attempt another run. It takes so much effort and burden. The only thing that makes it tolerable now is how easy it is to summon helpers. When that eventually dies down and signs start to dry up there will be portions of the game that will be an even greater time sink.

Also, yes, I like exploration but so much of this is repetitive. Caves, ruins, rune towers, bosses, dragons, castle, caravans etc. In previous Fromsoft entries each area had unique flare and individually crafted, specific detail incorporated into it. There's that here too. But, the sheer size of this game is made of quite bland filler. I guess that's the trade-off. But for me I'd gave preferred something 30% tighter, more focussed and memorable than this never ending cycle of busy work unearthing things you may or may not use. It's exhausting.

Also, the NPC questlines are ridiculously obtuse. There's absolutely no way you could complete them without the use of guides and the internet. Fine. That's always been the case in DaS to some extent. But, these make no sense. The whole game is just so proud of the fact it leaves you to figure it out that it's actually silly. So much so I'm almost agreeing with the critics that say it's just needlessly hard. 129 hours of my run time could've been cut down by 50 hours of going online to search for answers. This game is not self-contained enough.

Lastly, I've had this feeling with two other big games in recent years 1. RDR2 2. BOTW. By the end of both these games I just wanted it to end. I'd had enough of collecting every last trinket to the point of drudgery. You might say "just do the main questline". Well, FOMO is a strong emotion in these kinds of games and one that is hard to fight when its intentionally utilised and when you've spent £50 on it.

There's so much to love about ER. It is stunning in places. So why do I feel like I'm burning out? It's just too much game. Too much quantity not enough quality. Less is more. Get rid of Torrent, pin back some of the scale, up some of the unique detail of repeated areas, tighten her up and we have a game that doesn't ask that you must cease all other things in your life to complete. Just wanted to add a somewhat crass analogy to sum it up. Have you ever been in bed with a girl you're really into, and it all feels exciting, sensuous, sensitive and horny, but at some point it just goes on that little too long and you're both carrying on to try to get back that earlier feeling, but by now youre only sinking more and more cost and energy into it, and the fun bit is now dwarfed by the effort bit, you're just covered in sweat and you start to forget the beautiful bit and question why you're still plugging away, but you still don't want to give up before you finish, but when you do it's not that romantic and beautiful? That's ER. I can't put it any other way. Apologies if that's too sexual but the shoe fits.

Game starts off really strong. Like, the first 30-40 hours, depending on how much exploring you do, are the most incredible feeling. But by the time you're reaching the end of a normal Souls game, 50-60 hours, the cracks start to appear. I'm at 70 hours, I just got past the royal capital, and I'm beating bosses in 1 try with multiple healing items left over. Bosses I've never seen before are doing LESS DAMAGE THAN NORMAL ENEMIES. This game feels like FromSoft inverted the damage, making bosses a joke and mooks a chore. I'm walking by hordes of foes chasing after me with everything they have because they take too long to kill, are too dangerous to engage, and at level 112 I know I can beat a boss in one try if I have all my flasks. It's not about the game being too easy or too hard, it's just plain unbalanced.

Strength builds can barely get a hit out without trading, which can lead to you taking 40% of your life to deal 10% of the boss' life. Dex builds deal 1/20th of the boss' life, and rarely have the opening to swing more than once because the bosses swing 20 times in a row, do an AoE body explosion, and then do another combo that lasts a half an hour. Magic builds are flat out OP, even more than usual because of the open world allowing them to find all their gear right from the start and then start steam rolling bosses with non-boss spells.

Elden Ring isn't a bad game, but FromSoft needs to do more than nerf play abilities to balance this game. The bosses need a second look, because I probably shouldn't beat Rahdan, Morgott, Astell, and Renalla in one try, but exploring the royal capital is like pulling my teeth out because of instant death curses in the sewers and knights stunlocking me with lightning damage in the streets. Balance.

Everything feels heavy and clunky and your hundreds of deaths feel somehow even more frustrating than in any Souls game. Sekiro's combat is way better, more dynamic, more visceral and more engaging. I was really hoping that Elden Ring would improve on Sekiro's combat and take it from there, but we just got the old and recycled Souls' stiff, clunky mechanics that, by now, feel stale. The rewards for killing the most tough bosses were useless most of the time: summons that I wouldn't bother trying, underwhelming talismans, average weapons that I didn't even bothered selling for their low price and other trinkets I couldn't care less about. The lore felt too vague for my taste. I know that's FS's style, but I was really expecting a big, revealing, plot-twisting ending, because my 100-hour journey was arduous and I thought I deserved a decent ending. No, the ending was short, vague and underwhelming, to the point I felt it was disrespectful. All is left for me now is hope that in From's next title, I can be immersed into a huge and beautiful world with a slightly more fathomable lore, an overwhelming, big, fulfilling ending and improved and innovative combat. The old FS's formula still might be appealing to die-hard fans, but I don't think it's going to survive much longer.

The world building is nice and the environments are beautiful to look at why it is even sadder that I could never find myself enjoying them. The story is hidden and completely missable. An overview of all characters you meet in form of diary or something similar would have been nice. Half the time I didn't even know who I was talking too The difficulty is outright unfair sometimes. Especially when ambushed by multiple enemies. I stopped playing after opening that teleporter chest that send me to these mines where everything killed me in 2-3 hits. I decided against starting a new game because the thought of it filled me with dread. Yes killing the tree sentinel and the beastman felt nice it was not worth the stress this game caused me. I found myself unable to play longer than 1 h continuously and having to take a break and calming down after each time I played.
I made it to the 16 h mark because the world was so fascinating.
If I where on PC I would look up a mod that let me walk through the world without the enemys attacking to just look at everything, but sadly I am not.
