When I first reviewed Driceclub I gave it a 3 due to the many flaws and bugs within the game. The car detail is just as impressive and I keep getting drawn back to stunning visuals in this game having played forza horizon 2 I can say with pride that Driveclub simply beats Forza Horizon 2 in the graphics and visuals department. there may not be as many cars but hey you won't mind the lack of cars because you will enjoy the driving mechanics of the game and yes the controls is amazing.

The game finally feels complete and polished and I'm looking forward to playing Driveclub for many hours this is truly one amazing racing experience

I bought the PS4 mainly for this game. The game isn't as bad as people say it is, and it's not as good as it should be. Visuals are great, sound is a little disappointing mainly when you drift and all the cars do the same annoying noise. Gameplay isn't bad, but it isn't great too. Forza Horizon 2 is way better than this, but this is still a nice game to have if you own a PS4.

At first I thought the game was great. Then it got really really hard. Then I thought it was crap, but persevered. Then I got really good suddenly (must drive manual with a loud surround system)......

    ....then it became awesome

    .......then it became an obsession.

Challenges weren't working, which is a core part of the game. More than 2 months later everything is functioning perfectly and this is the nicest game of this genre I have ever played. Piles of tracks, beautifully detailed cars an scenery. Challenges with friends or other DriveClub players are addictive! Trying again and again to shave of a few tenths. Tracks have been added since and next year we'll get Japan, a free update. Felt sorry for Evolution with all the abuse they got, it went too far. Sure, the launch was a mess, but they've worked hard to put things right, and it's now a great game. Expand

Gave the game a 9/10. Being a project gotham fan, this game is right up my alley. The challenges in the clubs is really fun and the game is jaw droppingly gorgeous.

The online is solid once you get into a room, but still a little ropey when refreshing challenges outstanding etc.

The most recent patch brought weather to the game. As much as I would say its not a game changer and I would of liked to of seen this at launch, it is defiantly a very welcomed addition. While whizzing down the course at 150mph with the rain on your windscreen you will drive differently so its defiantly not just a new coat of paint but a lot more than that.

Over all I am very happy with the game.

My first experience of Driveclub was only three weeks ago, and after the initial stories of a game woefully unfinished, disgruntled gamers trading it back early and warnings that it really was not very good at all, I couldn't help but wander what I had let myself in for?

Well, thankfully, these fears were all unfounded, and I will come back to them I promise. Driveclub is the latest title from Evolution, the people who gave us the wonderful chaos of Motorstorm and the sequel, Apocalypse. Both of those titles still stand out not only to myself, but anyone who wanted something different from their racers.

Starting off, I have to go to the presentation. Menus are clean and fast, you really don't get lost anywhere, and this is a major plus. Perhaps in some of the more complex gameplay options they can be a little limiting, but for the most part they're designed so that you can go back to the most important part (the racing!!) as soon as.

Graphically, the game is probably the best-looking racer out there (certainly it is the best looking racer I've ever seen) - at any point in the game there are endless racers hammering it around the track, complex textures on cars and the track, with sublime lighting - and it doesn't ever jitter ONCE. If you wanted one graphical reference title for our PS4, something to make your friends jealous, make it this one.

The sound is disappointing though, and perhaps made all the more disappointing by the wonderful graphics. The engines sound meaty, and the sound effects are good, but there isn't anything that involves you. If you doubt my opinion in any way, go and play Need For Speed Shift on either the PS3 or XBOX 360, and drive the Ford Escort Cosworth - THAT is WHAT a racing game should sound like!! The music is okay, but its not there really for incident, and is just as part of the presentation, to fill in a necessary space, and immediately forgettable.

So onto the gameplay then - Driveclub's car feel is odd, and the somewhat chunky handling that merges just a little arcade with a good portion of sim (similar to Need for Speed Pro Street) really does take a while to get the hang of, but once you're there, then the really annoying nature of some of the tracks (designed to really involve might I add!!) changes to compulsion to master them, to beautiful effect. Its to the games benefit that it plays differently from say Codemaster's GRID series, and in kind of a way the game feels influenced from say Sega and Namco's later racers, in that they concentrated on the one pure thing, and avoided the gimmicks. There is no upgrading cars as such, the main meat of the game is purely on the racing, and later the social ascent of the racing. In a way, Evolution should be congratulated - this game cannot compare to the Gran Turismo's and the Forza's of this world and if you did, you'd be missing the point entirely. This is a racer not only built for veterans, but for newcomers after a change too.

Of the modes in the game then, it has to be said that the campaign mode is woefully short, so thankfully the online modes (now fully working by the way may I add) compensate, and also prove remarkably involving, but with one major stumbling block - to actually play an online race you require a PSN+ subscription, which I think quite honestly is a bit of a con. This game for the most part costs £50 on average, and the campaign's short length eventually forces you to try the game online for some racing, and then you have to pay - what gives? Still, provided you pay, the online stuff is now solid and really unmissable.

For my gripes though, I have to give massive kudos to Evolution for their constant updates on the game (the weather patch, released last week, really makes for some stunning racing through harsh weather!!), and releasing a lot of the early game packs for free as an apology for all the early issues is a good deed.

Overall, Driveclub is by no means the the ultimate driving game, and if you look at the separate components, then you're going to question whether this is worth playing. However, if you look past the flaws, and play it for what it is, and enjoy it the way its meant to be enjoyed, then you are going to have a lot of fun.

A different and slightly flawed racer, but all the better because it is different.

I bought the game at launch at it sat on my shelf until now. I tried to play it but so many better games came out and I simply didn't have the time. Now the weather patch has hit, online issues have been fixed and the game is generally more stable. So I decided to give it another go after seeing all the hype for the new weather system. I was quite surprised to see that I spend a whole evening just marvelling at the effects. I also gave the campaign another go and am now at around half way through.

It has been a bumpy start for Evolution studios for this generation. Driveclub still isn't as fun as say Forza in my opinion, but it's a nice racing game fix with some truly spectacular graphics. During launch I wouldn't have recommended Driveclub, now I'm beginning to think it might not be that bad. It still isn't a Forza-killer, but it's worth a shot. Now if only that PS+ version would be released as well....more people could appreciate Evolution's effort.

This is an enjoyable racing game, it is a bummer that the online component had issues but it is getting fixed. The game looks fantastic and the dynamic weather update made it even more so. I like the different country s that the tracks are set in but a few more would've been great. The game is load of fun to play, I had no interest until I played a retail demo. Soon after that I bought the game.

Driveclub is a good, solid racing game. And that's all. There is nothing more to add, because this game doesn't write a history of the genre. For sure it's much less than creators promised, but still can offer you some fun. But only if it's being distributed for free. It is not worth your money.

Having got the game yesterday, I wasn't overly exited with my purchase but as a few mates have it I thought I'd give it a bash. The cars I've raced feel different on handling (using a controller), the single player is similar to other games but it's good with the friends leader-board for each event challenging you to go one better than your friends. If you join a club you can unlock additional cars and challenge other clubs with your good times. It has a very fast feel to it, so I'm not sure how it would be on a wheel with FFB....it might just be a bit too quick.

Graphics are alright, nothing spectacular compared to PC racing games. Better than anything I've seen on the PS3 as you'd expect, but I was expecting a bit more.

Audio is alright, again nothing spectacular but good enough.

Multiplayer even worked when trying it which I didn't expect after all the server issues on release. It is slow to start a race though, and there is a bug if you join a friends session and then start a single player race (it doesn't join the MP session and stops your SP race).

I probably wouldn't pay £40+ for the game, but a pre-owned one isn't bad value for money.

I was looking forward to the PS Plus edition, which was promised to be available on the PS4 launch. After the announcement, slowly but surely, Sony announced what the PS Plus edition would actually be. While it was meant as "the full version minus a few cars and tracks", would end up more as a free demo with a better sounding label - PS Plus edition - slapped on. Broken promise number one.
Then, development wasn't really going that well and Evolution Studios decided that the game wasn't ready on PS4 release. Broken promise number 2.

But the real disaster struck when the game was released. No online functionality, which sucks for the people that actually bought this abomination, and no PS Plus edition. In the **** that resulted, Evolution Studios promised to fix the servers first, and release a PS Plus edition later. We're now 2 months further, servers are semi-fixed and there's already DLC out. And the PS Plus edition? They've decided to just keep quiet about that, maybe us stupid gamers will just forget about it. Broken promise number 3.

The physics are pure arcade, but work pretty well. The handling is direct and it doesn't feel floaty like many other arcade racers from the recent years.

The offline career mode is a little underwhelming. The amount of events the tour mode comes with is simply not enough, and it's appalling that they keep 176 (!) events aside as paid DLC. You can get them for €20 with the season pass, but for a game going for the full retail price, they should have been included. Some of the DLC will be provided for free, but it doesn't make up for the stuff they make you pay extra for.

Online, the game was a disaster on release but is gradually improving. Still a lot of bugs though with what should have been the core of this game.

It always appears photo realistic, and anyone who's in denial of this needs to have their eyes tested. This is an opinion of course, but I have reason to consider this more of a fact.

HOWEVER, Driveclub, in essence is a conventional arcade racer, that attempts to divide itself from other racing titles (with mini challenges within races such as average speed face offs and drifting, not to mention clubs) but none of these features have ever ensured its individuality. Much like the studio's last title, Motorstorm, it's nothing particularly special, but it's by no means a bad game.

If you have a PS4 and love cars, I do recommend picking this up just so you can drool over the beauty of the mostly European models, but this is no adequate substitute for Gran Turismo. You'll be much better off buying this game cheap. It has some promising DLC coming up, with both payed and free DLC packs released on a monthly basis until June 2015, but only buy the DLC if you think the game itself is good enough.

The only gripe is online players constant ramming to get in front which sometimes goes unpunished but overall online is fun. The slight negative is a lack of cars in the game but I guess more may be released in DLC and it's not that much of a big deal for me. This game was not ready to be released albeit it was delayed twice already.. This game promised so much and delivered so little.

I do not see how anyone can give a perfect score or a high score to a game that doesn't work properly.. It's an unfinished project and we as consumers must put a stop to these kind of practices..

Also... Sony needs to fix their damn network, it is a paid for service now, there is no excuse for PSN to be down every week.. Sony, you will not get a free pass with me this time, put some money into your network, the free games are great and all, but that does me no good when I want to play online.

The game lacks game modes, and is too repetitive, 'Maps' look too similar to each other, and you can only change the color of your cars, and only specific cars can only be used in specific races. There will be no free-roam found (Which I don't find an issue, but others most likely will), the camera feels a lot like Sleeping Dogs, which gave me a head-ache.

But the thing that bothers me most, is the $60-70 price tag. This game should only cos $30 and it can feel like a free-to-play game time to time.

The only issues i dislike is that, races start too quickly without any leaderboard info, etc. Doesnt always show your best times when in a race, only in a time trial. AI can be too aggressive sometimes. Some graphics are not as good as the pre-release videos, alpha on trees, pylons, etc are low res and have a halo around them. Damage is just a decorative effect that doesnt effect the car performance.

Driveclub has many problems. Even when the game is working properly it's both bland and solid.

The in-game sound reminds me a lot of the original playstation. it's there, but it isn't great. music is fast paced electric genre. there doesn't seem to be many songs though. most engines don't have a personality and the off-track noises sound ripped out of ps1. it's quite awkward. that word really sums this game up. it's not bad or good. it's awkward.

The handling isn't like any other racer i've played. it does what you don't expect it do it. it's pretty easy to drive yet you never really know if the wheels will lose grip or not.

The AI is odd too. sometimes they all follow each other in a line. other times they will give you a ram. there's a little bit of 'catch up' if you fall behind. but you won't generally get 3 seconds ahead.

The car list is the biggest problem with the game. (except for online still struggling to work a week after launch) it's ALL euro cars. yet there's no lamborghini. there's also no true american cars or japanese cars. but there's some hot hatches which are each very boring to race with. again, awkward is the key word.

there's not many modes. there's drift (which is actually powersliding because you don't really drift. there's assists that you can't turn off which prevents you from drifting) then there's standard races. that's it. so single player is pretty vanilla. the tracks are okay. not professionally designed but some are pretty good. others are just there...

The graphics are nice and the clubs are a decent feature. it's a very accessible game but there's not a lot to do. this game has awkwardness that just left me confused which has never happened to me before.

There is no incentive to drive clean. In fact the best way to get in front is to elbow your way by ramming into other cars and sides of the track. For me this game was a huge dissappoinment.

The game is very similar to the PGR/MSR series only it's racing circuits and fictitious roads with breathtaking scenery. The racing and physics model is so satisfying that it is hard to put down.

Sure there have been some severe networking issues plaguing the game since launch, but they're almost fixed now, much to our relief. There is a hugely competitive game here with oodles of content promised over the next nine months. Really looking forward to seeing what else Evo bring to the table.

Anyone that gives this a subpar score doesn't appreciate the actual work that goes into a game. No game deserves a zero or 1.

    No.

DriveClub would have been the very best racing game ever released in 2001. The graphics are waaaay past disappointing - they are literally laughable (or would be if I hadn't wasted 60 dollars on this digital garbage). anyone who tells you how good they are, spend 5 minutes with Forza 5. The sound? Good God - terrible. Everything sounds like it was recorded in a tin can. Its just...bad.

    But wait, there's more.

You can't upgrade your car. At ALL. I mean...not even the tires. Nothing! Literally...NOTHING. You cant even change the freaking color!!!!!

You can't explore the cars - there is no open view where you can check out the interior, look around the various exterior parts, etc. Nope. None of that nonsense for this gem!

Ever since Grid was released in - frig, I don't even know when, racing games have had voice overs where someone (usually with a British accent) tells you about your car, or the next race you're about to participate in, or....SOMETHING. Nope. No voice over in DriveClub; you spend most of your time is silence.

The game, honestly, feels unfinished. It feels like they pushed it out simply because they had a date, they had already missed one date and they had to get SOMETHING out the door. There is one part, where you are driving through a tunnel, the roof of the tunnel is these giant block images that repeat over and over - it looks like a texture out of the original Doom or Wolfenstein. Seriously, I was astonished.

    But wait, there's more!

I waited 11 months for THIS game. I have had THIS game's release date on my calendar. When it came out, did I spend the majority of my time playing it?

No, I spent literally HOURS waiting on hold for a SONY representative (I bought the digital download - otherwise I would have returned this crap to Gamestop) trying to make up reasons for why I deserve a refund (they very specifically told me that they were not giving refunds for THIS particular game). I told them first that the game was simply disappointing. I tried to say my kids had purchased it without permission (sorry, kids :( ). I tried everything, just to get RID of it. No luck.

After that entirely disappointing experience, I spent 5 hours playing Forza - the only game, in my opinion, worth a damn on the XB1. SONY had an opportunity here to steal a segment of the gaming market in which they have been getting their arses kicked for a decade. They absolutely needed to hit a homerun on this game. It was a launch day game (not). The trailers looked amazing (I have no idea where they got the graphics for those trailers, cause they ain't in the game). They had an extra YEAR to work on it.

Instead, not only did they not hit a homerun, they struck out looking. Disappointing. Once again, a PS4 exclusive sucks (play Killzone, anyone...God awful). The PS4 is a much better system by every comparison imaginable, but...if this is the commitment they have to gaming excellence, and if their refusal to issue refunds for games that they HAVE to know is horrible is an indication of their commitment to customer service.... XB1 might just be the way to go after all.

    Thanks SONY. For nothing.

Ever since launch day I have not been able to connect to the online servers. There's content that's locked behind the online service and it's been down since the game came out more than a week ago. I have no idea what Sony's doing but the fact that they delayed this game for a year and it's broken is unacceptable. I've never written a review like this before but this is beyond ridiculous.

Gameplay is great, if you don't account for the horrible AI. You'll see videos out there that will try to disprove this. They do, for when you're stopped, or going slow. If you're going fast, the AI gets really nasty. The devs say it is because you should follow the "racing line", because any pro driver knows the exact spot on the track where he should be so he/she gets the best advantage out of the track. But in real life, other drivers would not ram you in the back, or the side, over and over and over again until your off track. And you, the player, gets penalized for that, either via a points cut off your total, OR your engine runs at a throttled speed for a few seconds. Yet you never see the AI players slow down for any penalty.

Missing the weather effects, which are promised for a later update.

Game was marketed as : "you don't have to finish first, you get points rewared for doing clean track sections etc." Yet most stars are won by finishing in the 3rd position or best, or with really good finishing time. And to get further in the game you need stars, lots of them.

Overall it's entertaining to a point, but an update needs to fix a few things, especially the AI. But that last point probably won't happen from the remarks the company post about the critics against it.

You basically hop in a car, race, complete challenges, progress and unlock. There is no difficulty setting, you just have to start at the bottom in the amateur races and work you way up through the pros. So it becomes harder the further you progress. This makes it a very challenging game once you start to get half way through the ranks in the single player career mode. I've been gaming since 1985 and even i'm finding the pro ranks a real challenge. The challenges are varied and appear on their own, or within races. For example, you have standard racing, time trial, drift races etc. Then you have challenges WITHIN races. For instance, during a standard race against other cars, you may have to try and get the most drift points on one specific corner, or follow and try and keep on a driving line for a short period of time during a race. It doesn't matter if you don't complete these challenges during a race, and you can totally ignore them and just try and win the race, but completing them will help boost your points and unlock more cars. And if you fail these challenges on the first lap it will allow you to attempt them again on lap 2, 3 or 4, so you get a few chances. So not only do you have the fun challenge of trying to win a race, you have the challenge of trying to complete the challenges within the race. Then there are other challenges on top of that which consist of, Place 1st, Place within the top 3, Hit a top speed, achieve a clean lap, complete a race or lap under a ceratin time and so on. It constantly challenges you, which is fun for both hardcore and casual race fans. You can even create your own challenges for others or try and take on others self made challenges. You can play solo career mode, single races, or create your own crew with friends and challenge the world to become the no1 crew. The graphics are brilliant and the whole game looks impressive. There is a lot of detail and a lot going on every track, each track feels alive. The tracks are also very varied and a lot fun. You have lap races, or sprint races. There are 6 camera angles, including one i've never seen in a racing game before which is dashboard cam. But the game is at its best in cockpit in car view. The handling is a nice mix and sits somewhere between the PGR games and Forza. Its locked at 30 FPS and feels smooth and VERY fast, especially when you reach the hyper cars like the Venom and Mclaren etc. There are also a lot of new free cars, tracks and a weather system update on the way to download too. So, if you liked old challenging racers from back in the day like the Colin Mcrae/DIRT series, or Project Gotham Racing series, then you will like Driveclub. Expand

Due to the fact that the servers are unreachable i cannot comment on the multiplayer, but i don´t think that this part would get the wagon out of the swamp.

Last Point: The weathersystem is not there - It´s a point that was shown so many times that it´s just not funny to leave it out of the product in a "we´ll patch it in later"-fashion.

The user reviews on here are overly dramatic and laughable and in no way does this game deserve a 1 or a 0. The game has its faults but it's a blast to play and has 50 cars and a ton of tracks in a variety of locales. Yes, it could have more cars but the ones in the game are all fun to drive and handle differently. The game play is fun and fast yet not too far off in realism.

Once the server's are fully restored, which as of a week after launch they are still experiencing connectivity issues, the game will truly shine. If you're looking for a fun racing game I don't think you'll find a better one on the PS4. It's not a masterpiece, but if you like arcade style racing games this offers plenty to keep you busy.

How else could those gorgeous tracks load up in just 12 seconds?
The AI can be a bit brutish at times - but then it's more predictable than playing against randoms who ricochet around the track, and recovering from a nasty 'shunt' can feel really quite good. Anyway, it's something which can easily be tweaked if necessary, along with the connecivity issues which will inevitably be ironed out.

I'm afraid PS4 gamers will have to hope that Project Cars fills the void until Gran Turismo 7 comes out. Drive Club isn't that must have exclusive racer for the PS4 I'm afraid, and overall it's a pretty dull driving experience.. Expand

Disappointing graphics, boring gameplay... this is a game that looks and feels like it's ten years old. Why can't change the stock-colour of my car? Why can't I turn off the driving assists? This game has also a frustrating rubberband-AI that destroys any fun during a race. Bad appearance Sony!

A simple beautiful solid racer. At first when i fired this game up i thought "meh", But then i found myself really getting into it and wanting that "one more race" (That one more race ended up being 18 more races last night lol). It kinda reminds me of the very first Burnout game or the Project Gotham Racing series. The original Burnout only had 4 cars and zero customization, it was all about the racing. It kept you coming back for that one more race. Driveclub has 50 cars and another 38 on the way. Some people complain that it doesn't have 200+ cars and lacks customization, but i'm ok with it as my favourite racing franchise Project Gotham Racing had under 100 cars and zero customization and i still play Project Gotham Racing 4 seven years on. Like the Project Gotham Racing series Driveclub has a ton of beautiful tracks across various locations. The handling is a mix between Project Gotham Racing and Forza (simcade) and easy to pick up and play. It is 1080p and locked at 30FPS which is very fast, fluid and gives you a great sense of speed. The graphics are the best around and there is a lot going on the screen. There are balloons, fireworks, confetti, plastic bags blow across the track, colourful butterflies zipping by the windscreen, birds and more. It is more alive than other racers. If you play the career races in order like i am you will find the game becomes more and more prettier as you progress through the game. The lighting effects and scenery are impressive. This game will appeal to both casual fans and hardcore racer fans who just like to pick up and race. So if you like a good solid racer, or just want to show off what your Playstation 4 can do, then give it a whirl. I'm happy with it. Expand

Do not listen to the fake low scoring reviews this game is fantastic! I have never played a driving game whereas had such a sense of speed or weather and light conditions have played such an important role in a race (just like real life.) Forza horizon 2 is a great driving game hosever driveclub has got me coming back over and over to shave valuable seconds from my lap or trial times. After a bit more time with the game and after properly comparing it with its competitors. I have adjusted my review. It should really be a bit lower given the fact the online is non existent but I did get to play a little before it broke. If you only have a PS4 then this is a passable racer if you own an xbox one then just get Forza Horizon 2.

Driveclub is a must-have for any PS4 racing fan. It’s ideal for anyone who enjoys a good arcade racer. It’s challenging, but teaches you how to overcome every single one. Because of this, Driveclub is far more rewarding than its peers. This coupled with fantastic graphical fidelity, impressive sound design, and adrenaline-inducing sense of speed makes Driveclub one of the best racing games available on current-gen systems.

When you're on the track Driveclub is stunning to behold, but it's held back by a lack of event types. [Christmas 2014, p.74]

The sense of speed offered by Driveclub reminded me of the brilliant first GRID and I was having a lot of fun until I realized that cars are indestructible. Whether you stroke a wooden fence or smash into another vehicle at 300 km/h your car drives exactly the same afterwards. [Dec 2014, p.66]
