Strangely compelling art design is not enough – Drawn to Death is proof to this like almost no other game. While the brutal gags grabbed my sympathy the technical flaws made me turn away too often. This simply can’t keep up with Garden Warfare or Overwatch.

Drawn to Death is one of the most disappointing games I’ve played in recent memory. The premise is fantastic and there is a heap of potential buried beneath the surface. Unfortunately, even after you dig past that rough outer shell, the inside is almost entire empty and devoid of engaging content.

Drawn to Death has tons of potential, so it's a shame to see almost all of it go down the drain. The game promised a cool and fun arena style shooter with tons of funny and creative weapons and characters, all with the amazing sketchbook art style. What we got instead was a shallow game, full of unnecessary profanity, mostly useless weapons, forgettable soundtrack and an annoying announcer. The art style is cool and the arenas and characters are fun to look at, but even they can't.

We see a fairly normal kid who idolizes his brother, a serviceman, can't gather the gumption to talk to a girl in his class, seems somewhat embarrassed about his interest in guns and knives, and uses the world of his notebook to brutalize and embarrass the things in reality that make life miserable. All this creates a funhouse-mirror image of screwed-up teenage gamerdom worth exploring with a measure of detachment, which makes it even more of a shame of the outdated, obnoxious shooter that never shuts up Drawn To Death actually is.

With its immature design and humour, Drawn To Death is a game out of time. Its server issues and general instability compound that, distracting from what could have been a fun arena shooter.

One of the most unique-looking shooters of recent years, but not necessarily in a good way. Especially not when the action is this unrefined and purposefully annoying.

With a look this distinctive, Drawn to Death could have hit the ground running. But as a decent shooter it merely limps, thanks to a number of unfortunate design choices, a lack of options, and rampant bugs. Intricate levels, varied weapons and unique characters may have looked good on paper, but any positives Drawn to Death has get scribbled over and obscured by the constant barrage of un-funny abuse it insists on endlessly spewing in your face.

It’s probably just as well Sony gave this thing away for free with PSPlus memberships. It’s the only hope the game has of actually keeping an audience (because it’s a multiplayer-only game, it needs a large and sustained community). But if David Jaffe genuinely wants to make a transgressive game, next time he should pay some attention to how actual transgressive artists like Goichi Suda and Yoko Taro do it.

David Jaffe returns with an obnoxious, sketchy shooter that packs a surprising - if not entirely pleasant - punch.

Those who played the game for a match and then gave up on it and those who gave it some time.

Im in the later category and I feel this game has some potential, the art style can be slightly off putting at first but Its been done this way for a reason and I can fully appreciate what the game designers are trying to do.

Drawn to death can be probably be summed up as a dukenukem hero shooter hybrid. I really enjoyed the variety and ridiculousness of the arsenal while still having that learning curve with each ability.

I love that they have done the utmost to keep to the theme of the game throughout and taunt system using GIF's on different regions of the touchpad is genius, would really like to see other game incorporate this.

All in all I hope to drag a few more mates into this and fingers crossed it its played enough to warrant the devs putting more time in to refine any rough edges.

    Drawn to Death
a Free to Play you have to pay for
from the mind behind twisted metal and god of war is Drawn to Death…
A 3rd Person competitive shooter that takes place inside of a notebook.
This game was initially planned to be a free to play,
Plans have changed, and honestly it feels like all that was changed was throwing a price tag on it, because this game I still filled with micro transactions and grind…
The humor here is brilliant and never gets old…
From the taunts to the announcer doing commentary during the matches…
There are 6 characters to choose from, but the loadouts and weapon choices stay the same… the only thing that changes are the special moves you can do with these characters…
You can anchor an opponent down for example or you can make their ears bleed if you keep them in your dome long enough…
And each character has 2 special moves and well as 2 guns to take into each battle…
These guns are all fairly unique, and all have their advantages and disadvantages in each of the maps…
So it’s worth changing your loadout and playing around with different items…
Made easier by the fact that you can choose the weapons to have in map for you to pick up
There are currently 7 maps total here…
And unfortunately all of these maps to me felt nothing more than alright…
There were no standouts.. No favorites for me
The weakest part of the entire game…
The actual gameplay itself is a blast…
    There are 7 match types...
But at its core there’s basically 2
    Death Match and organ donor
Organ donor is a kill, collect hearts, and bank match…
Fairly unique, but rare to find yourself in this match type
    and then there’s Death Match
it has a 1v1 brawl mode.. but you’ll mostly be playing a triple threat every person for themselves or 2v2 trying to get to either 10 or 20 points
The biggest disappointment though is that the teams are so small…
Matches never really feel hectic because of that…
You for the most part know where the other 2 players are at at all times
So it in turn turns into just a game of who can get the luckiest in a tight spot…
you don’t have to worry about another player being around the corner..
you rarely have to be cautious…
Not that this is a bad thing… its brings the feel back to spending the night at your friend’s house in the 90s and playing 4 player split screen
But on its own… it’s just not enough…
Especially considering how grindy unlocks are…
There are 2 different unlock systems in this game..
1 for weapons, and 1 for taunts and skins…
To unlock weapons you have to fill a key by leveling up characters and doing in match tasks…
Essentially you’ll get a new weapon every hour or so depending on if you actively go after them or not
And as for the loot boxes with the taunts and skins.. you have to get 150 kills for a free box…
That’s 15 wins assuming you get all of the kills for your team…
You’re looking at about 3 hours per box. If you’re a 360 no scope pro
And aint nobody got time for that…
    And the developers know this…
So they toss in those wonderful free to play micro transactions
So you can look a little different until you get bored of the maps and 2v2 action
    Drawn to Death is fun,
You’ll lose hours to trying out new characters and weapons..
But the grind is too grindy…
Rewards are spread way too thin to keep people hooked in favor of making a quick buck, and that’s a shame
    I give Drawn to Death a 7.5/10
