This game improves upon Dragon Ball Xenoverse in every aspect that the fans of the first game complained about. If you're a Dragon Ball fan, this game is the game to get. I've placed twenty hours into it already, and I still haven't even broke the half-way point to having half of the game done. It's content is amazing and is expansive.

    The Pro's:
If you have played the first Xenoverse you will be pleased that the gameplay is faster, more fluid and more responsive.
Also the grinding aspect has been lowered you don't have to do the same quest over and over to just get that one costume or skill you want. Most of the times you'll get it after 2-3 times, with a rare occasion where it's taking longer.
The student and teacher aspect has been changed where you can get the techniques right away. Character customization has been tweaked, more options to create a character and every race now has a power-up/transformation.
The story is longer which means more characters and different character forms to play as.
There is more to do in the HUB world town now. More sidequests, people to talk to and interact with, and the town just looks better overall.

    Cons:
The story could have been better and more fleshed out. Many important scenes in the anime are left out, and still no love for the first dragon ball season where Goku is a kid.
The characters aren't balanced for example the saibamen can't hold a candle to many other characters and are dead after a few hits. I get that some characters just are weaker then others but this makes some characters not viable at all and makes you question: why even put them in?
And last but certainly not least the loading screens. Bandai Namco has promised to fix this in the future but as of now the loading screens are very long and take you out of the immersion in the game. Sometimes you will be watching at a white screen for about a minute and that is very long for this day and age.

Summary: Massive improvements over the already good Xenoverse, especially in visuals, computer AI, and fighting mechanics. Worth playing for fans of the series but can be repetitive and tiresome for anyone looking for something more than a competent DBZ fighting game.

Full: As a big fan of DBZ, fighting games, and have bought every game since Budokai Tenkaichi 3, this game was a very refreshing sigh of relief. This is probably my favorite game of the series since Burst Limit.
The RPG elements are very well done, its hard to imagine creating more diverse characters than in this game. The first Xenoverse seemed to be Saiyan central since it had multiple transformations and has always been a fan favorite, this was fixed by giving all classes a meaningful transformation and slight nerfs to the saiyan class.
The cutscenes in the original were fairly cringeworthy but here we get really well done animations which occasionally try to look traditionally animated. After playing through the original game a month before this one, it was shocking to see the visual upgrades in both in and out of combat.
The change from Toki Toki to Conton City is probably the biggest change to the game, instead of having 3 areas like the original, there is a full city to explore and run into most characters in the game. So you can go train with Vegeta, visit Frieza's ship, or help Krilin carry milk across the street (don't). The original game made it so that only one random character was available for lessons at a time, but in XV2 all teachers are available permanently once they are unlocked.
In terms of actual combat gameplay, the changes were more minor but important. Much like the first game there is a fairly easy 'infinite' combo that most characters can use. However this one is a little more complicated (requires a dash after repeating a striking combo) and requires more timing. The most important change is with the AI though, instead of just eating your combo until death (100+ hits), they will dodge when they have stamina available. On top of that they are on point with shutting down ultimate attacks with stamina breaks and usually punishes any moment of greed by the player. This at least forces you to pay attention and get your heart rate up more than previous installments, but the majority of each match is the same reiteration of the same combo while dodging out whenever you get attacked.
The actual story is more of a rehash of the xenoverse story from the first game, but to keep it fresh they mix in movie characters like turles and lord slug. Its okay, but clearly done just to give the game a sense of progression while you level up. There are a lot worse fighting game stories.

Rating Justification: I really enjoy practice modes in fighting games to work out combos and timings, but there is simply no need for it here. So the actual fighting game mechanics judged separately from everything else are fairly weak. The RPG elements are great with a lot of customizations and options available. This gives the game replay value since mid way through a striker namekian build, you might want to try a Ki blast Majin build or something similar. Great RPG, pretty artwork, serviceable story, but still missing the core gameplay of a great fighting game. 8/10

The combat mechanics are super fluid and it can get really fun doing combos although tedious to perfect. Story is similar to that of the older one with a few minor cinematic changes. Finally saiyan hair actually looking different when transformed. In the end there's so much content it's worth the 50$ price imo.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Nice game, I liked it. No huge improvements comparing with its predecessor but feels more like a real db game. Currently I'm playing with the sayan race, I loved super sayan transformations system (based on your ki bars is the super sayan level that you can reach, I think it's up to level 3 and you can go back to normal stage at any time). Story.. well you will recreate dbz story with some minor differences as the first xenoverse. More parallel quests, you can have quests as freezer army, great sayaman partner, etc. It adds more things to complete on the game.

Definitely its better and you will have more fun that it's predecessor. You will enjoy it mostly if you are a dragon ball fan, otherwise you may find it boring after a couple of hours.

Don't let the the bad eggs try to steer you wrong. Xenoverse 2 is a major improvement to the first game in nearly every single way.

There are brand new character customization features for you to delve into-- everything from new outfits (there are outfits other characters wear and there are original outfits you can change the colors of), new special moves, new ultimate moves, new Z-Souls, new masters, and the completely new QQ Bang equips which allow you to overwrite the stats on your clothing which allows you to actually wear anything you want without worrying about what stats go up or down.

Bandai Namco and Dimps have taken strides to improve the gameplay and add in changes to make it much more balanced. Stamina is much more important now and you have to use it wisely, Saiyans can no longer abuse Super Saiyan then spam ultimates, there is no more super armor so no one has super invincibility (even while charging attacks), there is the addition of charged ki blasts which can have different effects based on your Z-Soul, you can see the enemy's stamina and ki gauges so you can see for yourself that they can no longer spam or get unlimited of either, and they've added in ways to quickly close the gap between fighters.

There is a brand new story which focuses more on the movies from the Dragon Ball universe. It features characters like Turles, Lord Slug, Cooler, Metal Cooler, and more.

There is also a new and much more improved soundtrack that sounds much closer to what you would expect from Dragon Ball, really capturing the mood of every battle and setting.

The drop rates from missions have been vastly improved. No longer will you need to put in hours on the same mission, playing it time and time again for the one thing you want. They are far more forgiving and with the collection of brand new PQs that you can tackle there are even more goodies to collect and they're easier to collect without being too difficult or too much of a time sink.

The masters you can train under are all on the brand new giant sized map at the same time so you never have to worry about missing them. In addition you can learn from all masters without having to become their student but you can still pick one as your instructor for extra goodies. Learning new skills from them is dictated by your ranking and you rank up by completing advancement tests at the training school (where you can also learn basics and extra tips), when you rank up you can learn new skills from any master that has new skills to teach.

There are new transformations. Saiyans can go Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan 2, and Super Saiyan 3 (which are all now compiled under one skill) and if you want your hair to go spiky then just you wait til you go SSJ3. New to the series is the other races transformations. The Freiza race can go golden, Namekians can become giants, humans can awaken to their true potentials, and Majins can go Kid form. There are also special missions for each race that only that race can accept.

No one should go into this expecting Budokai Tenkaichi 3 because it's not Budokai Tenkaichi in the first place-- otherwise it would be called Tenkaichi not Xenoverse (there wasn't even custom characters in BT3). By comparing this to BT3 people are doing it a great disservice, there are dozens of Dragon Ball video game series and there have been several series (and a whole generation of consoles) in between the release of BT3 and XV2 so picking BT3 as the yardstick of which to compare XV2 is silly to begin with.

I've only just scratched the surface with this review, the game is massive and there are tens of hours of things to do within it. Best part is if you like offline or online everything above is there in both. Whether you're a diehard fan, a casual fan, or someone looking for some fun that lasts a while, this is the game you need to look into. It is addicting and just wanting to see what new moves and clothes you can get gives you the energy to push on.

QQ bangs are the noticible difference everything else well
    - No colour Aura Change
    -Still only one Acessory Slot
-Orignal Cha CLothes colour cant be changed so you look like a cheap imitation
-No spikey Hair for SSj and All SSj3 look like Goku
-Weapon Accessory are only for decoration

    Character Roster
    - 5 gokus 5 coolers 5 Gohans 4 friezas 4 cells same cha taking up slots for potential new cha
-Still No in game transformations for Frieza,Cell,Cooler,Broly
    -Broly no Base form/SSj
    - Where is the Editing CC moves sets and Grapples ? remember it is a CC cha thats only to be expected

    Combat
More smoother as expected of Ps4 but what lacks greatly is when you played classics like BT 3
series and you play Xenoverse 2 all the different play styles dissapper quickly
    - Boring combo input no uses of Directional buttons to make combos feel fresh and harder to do
    - No 3 level s of blocking low ,mid, high hit detection anyone ?
    - All combos lead to same outcome which is a smash finish sending your opponents flying.
    No heavy finish,Rolling hammer,No flying kick,kiaki Cannon

( Ref for further clarification Look at BT 3 Ps2 command list and see all the combos that exist and
    comapare this to it)

    - Dodging is copy and paste of the Storm series of Naruto the sub meter it becomes a sub meter game,
BT 3 dodging relied on players timeing O to dodge even if you were losing if your timeing of
O was good you can make a come back. Now it becomes a meter of Big sub bar = big advantage
and no excitement of pulling of a Dodge anymore

-No beam clashes , feels very anti climactic
-No Melee Clash with Analoge spin to determine victor
    feels very pointless when
    this keeps happening.

    - Bad balancing of Cha a character like Tien will lose to Veigto why becuase the Substtituion meter
already determines who has the major advantage if iti was based on BT 3 dodge system things would be different

    Conclusion
Its more like a Xenoverse 1.5 than a sequal the above is what has me rating it 2/10
the failure to correct/improve/change the first Xenoverse mistakes.
If the above are mplemented this will be a great game p.s i doubt greatly if i will buy Xenoverse 3
and i havbent purchased a single DLC of Xenoverse 2 as the game mechanic in its self is bland,
boring and not many ways for different play styles.

And this games biggest downfall is that it's way too similar to it's previous installment, It feels like a long DLC than an actual sequel expanding on the games story, which is the exact same except for around the end game, when you have to finally confront Mira, Towa, and the Masked Saiyan (whos identity is obvious from the beginning).

The improvements on the hub-world are good, but it's not very important for the game overall.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is a fun game, but there's not a lot of replay value, and it feels like the developers made this game half-heartedly, hopefully Xenoverse 3 is better.

What really pulls the game down in score is the amount of repeating sub missions from the first Xenoverse. If you liked the first Xenoverse, you will like this one. They made many improvements to the original game, but somethings are still lacking.

If you liked the first Xenoverse, you will like this one. They made many improvements to the original game, but somethings are still lacking.

First, the combat. The hit detection is way more precise, it's much easier to connect combos and special moves together. In order to stop "runners" from keeping their distance and spamming, they added the burst dash. You can easily punish them now. There is the stamina break, which is like a duel edge sword. You can quickly break the stamina of your opponent, but if you fail, you are left wide open. The camera angles are cool, but they often get in a position which you can't see properly. Every race also now has their own transformation and they are almost ALL Incredible. Super Saiyan goes up to SS3, and runs off how much ki you have when you transform. You can no longer get infinite special attacks, and the form acts more like a power boost. The Namekians get a giant form, which is very amazing that they pulled it off. (It just got more balanced btw). The Frost Demos (Or frieza clan) gets a golden form that provided a massive speed boost. The Earthlings get to ride The Flying Nimbus and use the Power Pole, which is both silly and fun. Then.... the Majins. The transformation sucks. You just turn into Kid Buu. Do not play as a Majin race till you get Kioken or Potential Unlocked.
The overall design is better in the hub world. Masters or instructors teach you new moves. In the last game, they spawned randomly and took forever to unlock anything. Now, you can breeze right through them. The side quest you can go on now has better RNG. You always get something at the end of the mission now, and the "Perfect Endings" to the quest are guaranteed, not random. However, a lot of these quest are pulled straight from the first game, copy and past. Very lazy. The clothes you can put on your costume character still have stats...BUT they can be turned off by using the QQ bang system. So you can wear whatever you want without worrying about stat points.
The story is the biggest issue. It feels that it lacks the creativity that the first game had. There are a few surprising moments, but a lot of these missions are copy and paste. It also felt very rushed. I was very excited for some movie characters that showed up. But, many of the cooler ones ended up being forced into the story, rather than taking part of their own individual missions. It is not the worst story in the world, but not as good as Xenoverse 1.
Overall, the game is solid, and fun. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 feels more like an expansion than a full-fledged squeal. Or maybe more like Xenoverse 1.5 It's not perfect, but is enjoyable. I would recommend Xenoverse 2 to mega fans of the first game (unless if you REALLY liked the broken mechanics because they gone.) If you want to get into the series, do NOT play the first game. Play this one only, maybe watch the story mode of the first game on YouTube. Also, get it when the price drops to about 40$.

Crappy simplified gameplay, so far from the excellence of Tenkaichi 2 & 3.
It's supposed to be a fighting game first, but with this lame gameplay, it's just an on-line DB game with Ok graphics.
+ Graphics looks good and it's 60 fps + Dragon Ball ! + Play with your friends - Poor gameplay - Horrible music themes - Character creation is not much better than in the 1st episode -

This game just might be my guiltiest of pleasure. I know that it's not a good game from a technical stand point however it completely draws me in once I get started playing it. All thisThis game just might be my guiltiest of pleasure. I know that it's not a good game from a technical stand point however it completely draws me in once I get started playing it. It might be that as a fan of the franchise this game lets me fulfill a long held fantasy of becoming a sayan, stepping into this incredible and ridiculous, flying around and punching bad guys with Goku. All this is great for DBZ fans, and that is clearly the crowd this game was made for. In my personal opinion a licensed game is trying to accomplish one of two things, appease fans or expand the demographic. In most cases the latter of the two is the better of the two games (a good compression in this case would be comparing this FighterZ which appeals to fighting game fans as much if not more so than it does franchise fans) with the other category acting as fan service. Now don't take this the wrong way, I personally believe that when reviewing a game one should keep in mind its audience, and in this case I (apart of that targeted audience) am satisfied. I am more than aware of the games shortcomings, the repeated story-line of its predecessor, the improved yet still kinda clunky combat, and the broken character class known as sayan, but somehow I've spent more time playing this on my switch than I have Breath of the Wild (a far superior game in every regard) and have enjoyed almost every minute of it. What can I say? Fan service. Expand

That's a Nice game, but It doesn't innovates, is very similar to the first game.
However, brings a little more content, and some things to do.
I don't have lots of things to say about this game, it's good, but is Very similar to the first game. That's why I rated 7

    if the 1st XV was a 5 this one is a 7.
Theres much much more content to this game than the original. the story may be similar with different villains but this was Xenoverse's story, history change ... go fix it. they added plenty of heroes that weren't in the original and they gave each custom race it's own transformation with better balancing. They found a good way to prevent the spam

They found a good way to prevent the spam from happening and they added online raids.. which is simply good, Although with the time going by they decided to make raids spam to win The main problem this game has is the terrible amount of DLCs with added character that are available.
    to sum up,
    -New skills added
    -more heroes
    -improved compact

The IDEA for this game is brilliant. It’s just too bad the decision making and execution was made by people with absolutely no sense. There are so many oversights and imbalances in the gameplay. It’s so disappointing. I get it developers make mistakes, but the amount of times that I google a problem and the response is “yeah unfortunately that’s just how the game’s made” is ridiculous. The IDEA for this game is brilliant. Good gameplay, awful distracting storyline, stupid NPC characters, fun missions, love the expanded universe aspect, way too many DLCs without much to them. Very annoying constant self promotions on the in game loud speaker, all the freaking time. A mixed bag entirely.

And even though it's the same premise as the first game it's different enough to and has more variety than the first game. But sometimes the fights feel a little unfair even if you have a high level and skill but that's my only big complaint about the game Expand

There are a lot of characters with different attacks. The story is also okay. I don't really like the way the characters look in this game, but it's still a good game in my eyes. There are some better games in the series, but there are also worse ones.
