This game has a lot of boring battle and bugs.
And map is too wide, especially the first map.
But the story was really interesting and the characters were attractive.

It's a MMO without the multiplayer part. It is cool, but nothing spectacular. If you like mmo games you will probably enjoy.

At time of typing, I have completed every trophy in the game (sans the Nightmare mode [and, by proxy, the Platinum] one; the Persuasive one is bugged although I have 15 agents) and have collected every mosaic, bottle, landmark, blah blah blah. I was at 104 hours when I finished so I really don't get why people are saying they have 150+ hours and still aren't done.

I digress. I have several legitimate concerns about the way DA: I padded out content. I see a lot of people saying "if you don't like it, don't do it!" but the problem with that argument is the fact that the fluff-to-content ratio is extremely lopsided. When I completed the game, I still had 273 Power left and nothing to use it on. That right there tells you there is an EXCESSIVE amount of fluff that does little towards the progression of the game's story itself. Likewise, since the game opens up many of the areas early on - right after Skyhold, really - it's possible to go through and hit a wall with character progression within the first 30-ish hours of the game. By the time I went to the third major story mission (Halamshiral), I was wearing the very gear I would be wearing for the remaining 50+ hours of gameplay. This progression ceiling does not only apply to the story progression but also to the fluff as well. When I finished collecting all the shards and opened the final door in the Oasis, I was rewarded with gear that was markedly inferior to the stuff I had crafted or found 10+ hours prior. This doesn't even touch on how poor the context is behind most of these side missions. Most of it boils down to: Go do this because Inquisition.

The War Table is a great example of poor design and fluff in action. Multiple 5+ hour missions that grant minimal reward. Even some 12+ hour missions! Here's a practical example: I sent Josephine off on a 15 hour mission of negotiations in northwestern Ferelden. The next day when it was complete, I got a four line paragraph explaining what happened, a whopping 106 gold and an Amulet of Power. Woooooooo. Likewise, the War Table is a poor substitute for materials gathering. If I send Cullen out to gather minerals, it takes him 15-ish minutes (give or take, depending on agents) to come back with 6-8 minerals. When I gather minerals from a node, I gather anywhere from 1-4 per click and there are almost always 2-3 nodes in close proximity. In the same 15 minutes, I can easily gather three times as much. Plus, you cannot send all three of your people to gather from the same resource or region, thus making gathering via your War Council an even bigger slog than doing it yourself.

I found a lot of the character development quest lines and conversation trees banal and paper-thin, not anywhere close to the same level of character development found in other Bioware titles. The Cassandra/Varric character development seemed to the most well fleshed out while Iron Bull and Sera were the most entertaining to keep in the party for random banter. But, by the end, I felt no real attachment to any except the ones who started the quest with me (notably Cassandra and Varric) and doing the ally quests wasn't all that satisfying. If anything, it felt like an obligatory BioWare staple of throwing a whole bunch of allies at the player just because they could. Assuming the full party is acquired, did the player really need 3 warriors, 3 rogues, and 3 mages, in addition to whatever class the player character is?

The main story arc was decent enough, if not slightly generic, and at least it kept me invested. In looking back, I could have finished the game around 30-40 hours and felt satisfied, perhaps even moreso.

Beyond the fluff issue, gameplay is often clunky, especially if you play melee classes on harder difficulty level, and the game pushes the player into FAR TOO MANY menu screens for inventory and character management.

I don't regret purchasing or playing the game and I gladly give it a 3 out of 5 (6/10) overall but I see little compelling reason to play it again. The characters hold little interest and the outcome will be mostly the same (only very small changes in the ending slide show) regardless of choices made.

Multiplayer was inexplicable bug ridden and unredeemable, I find it a little bit funny with EA games how their games are so broken but yet the payment features work flawlessly. ALWAYS.

So there was a major incident when I was chatting to some grey wardens which forced me to skip dialogue to continue the game, skip dialogue in such a story driven game? Unsatisfactory.

Multiplayer’s bugs extend to people never loading ingame loading in bugged being unable to turn unable to attack res insane lag times. It’s hard to believe they would even release multiplayer in this state and it is a massive spit in a players face.
I did a lot of side questing like almost all of the side quests I was getting bored with the game and decided to start the end sequence. All the choices I made, getting cole an amulet, helping French chick get out of debt, in the wrap up were utterly and completely ignored.
I got what faction I sided with the power struggle with the king queen, I got one other faction and a minor detail about the inquisition.
I don’t play 40 hrs to get 3 small narratives some of which were not really of significance.

Definetly unworthy of a ten let alone the critics 9.

When I play a fantasy based rpg i expect to get lost in a world and have strange obstacles to overcome. My expectations are not to be given a list of things to do as if im at work and my employer wants me to get stuff done. To me that is not a game it is a checklist to occupy your time. This game is expansive and deserves a lot of credit for beautiful art and sound and a nifty inventory of stuff but the characters and how you occupy your time are not that great or interesting. The influence system is there to remind you of how much grinding you need to do in a zone to unlock the next big "story".

The setpieces, when you do unlock them are very good but the basic problem is the world is flat. Enemies and enemy attack patterns are repetitive. This is Bioware at its most streamlined and most Ubisoft like.

Actual play time may number in the hundreds of hours, but actual meaningful playtime is 20 hours.

Not to mention the completely uninspired villain story.

Those of you rating it 10 clearly don't know or remember or have played games of real quality. This has length and breadth but no depth.

I fear for ME4 and if this sells well it will only confirm to EA that they are on the right track.

Don't be fooled. It's another fetch fest.

I've always been a much bigger fan of Mass Effect than of Dragon Age so that's something to consider.

I was not that excited about Dragon Age: Inquisition going in. The graphics looked good but nothing grabbed me in the gameplay footage or ads they showed on TV but I gave it a go because the games media wouldn't stop talking about how amazing it was... I should have listened to my gut.

DA:I is overwhelmingly ok. The characters and story are bland. The combat lacks any bite or real hook to it. I found myself wandering aimlessly through the (beautifully rendered but generic) world, spamming spells and attacks. I never got invested in what I was doing and at times it was unclear what I was SUPPOSED to be doing. Ten hours in and I was really missing the gripping story or interesting characters of something like Mass Effect or KOTOR.

The game is serviceable but it's void of any personality or life. I think the combat would work better on PC because controlling a bunch of characters and powers is not all that intuitive on a controller.

I like a little more progress made when I play for 2 hours and I don't need another job (have one job, don't want another). I need some adventure and a reason to continue button mashing and leveling. Same reason I didn't like Destiny. Big does not equal better in games to me. Dragon age inquisition is HUGE!, unfathomably massive, if it weren't for world map having literally everything marked you'd be lost 100% of the time, which isn't a bad thing.
The only downside I've seen is the multiplayer, it feels tacked on as to simply have a multiplayer regardless of quality.

Slower and more generic than it needed to be.
Boring combat systems feel acceptable on PC, but are tragic on ps4.
Only one character holds any actual charm, and the world feels overly open, causing the narrative spine to get lost or side-saddled. There is enough there to make plenty of playable hours, but certainly not a memorable experience.

Holding R2 and running around only to spam some facebutton as soon as im able to is neither challenging , engaging or most of all , fun.. Unless you enjoy mapping out everyones MO at the start of every battle , you are constantly cycling through your party members to pause the gameplay and heal..

If this seems to you great storytelling , pick up some assassins , metal gear or last of us and chances are your mind will explode.

    - ...and some are blatant sociopolitical pandering

+ vibrant, interesting environments that are fun to explore
    ~ but sparsely populated
    - and filled with junk quests and MMO-style 'collect 10 bear asses and some leaves'

+ levelling is rewarding; skills feel like they do something and characters feel more powerful for having them

+ crafting system is useful and provides regular upgrades
~ but huge swathes of gear look identical,
    - are visually jarring and do not 'fit' with the game's wider aesthetic

+ landscapes are beautiful from a distance
    - but fall apart under scrutiny and lack attention to detail

    - character animations are utter garbage

~ character designs are wildly variable, from 'actual living sentient creature' to 'hideous abomination' - which would be fine, but the way the game treats these characters makes you think it's not at all intentional

~ live combat works fine but is uninspired and not very fluid
    - whereas tactical combat is a big step down from Origins

    - custom tactical patterns for party members are very limited

~ host of easily exploitable bugs
    - accompanied by an equal number of entirely bizarre, immersion-shattering ones

    - generic LOLSOEVIL villain that it's very difficult to care about

    - dialogue is stiff and doesn't feel 'real'

    - typical awkward new-Bioware sex scenes

+ long enough that you won't feel hard done by at the end
~ but some sections drag on tirelessly, especially early on

Bit of casual fun as long as you don't expect too much from it. Worth picking up if you can find it in a bargain bin somewhere - pretty sure I saw it for £22 in Tesco recently.

I should point out that I avoided reviewing DA:I on release because I was butthurt over it not being a worthy successor to Origins and Mass Effect, but I've calmed down a bit now and have no problem giving it a 6.

I realise you don't "have" to take a party with you, but you're pretty much screwed if you don't. I got a fair ways into the game before thinking screw it, I'll just plough through the main quest, but didn't even manage that. The whole thing is totally unengaging. And the side quests..... they are awful. One of the many gripes about DA2 was the constant reuse of areas and how overly small the whole game was, so they decided to make vast open spaces and then.... fill it with awful fetch quests. Collect x amount of shards, collect x amount of stuff for party members. It was like playing an mmo on your own.
I didn't finish the game, it bored me to tears. I got quite far into it, I think I was near the end but simply couldn't be bothered with the rest of it. I found the side quest "The Bloody Baron" in The Witcher 3 far more engaging and better written than the main plotline in DA:I.

Lack of world building and awkward combat make this game average, but you can't deny the fun there is to have with it's colorful cast of characters .

For the series, the Dragon Age Origin is absolutely stunning, the attractive story and world design, the connection I felt between characters, the combat is really fun and I enjoyed every encounters, there's even a slow motion finishing animation. The replay value, everything just feels right in DAO.

Now for this game, it just missed something that captivate me. The controls for tactic view is bad, breaks the fluidity of the gameplay. The world design feels cramped to me, you can't really develop your characters or explore the world so freely. BORING.

Dragon Age Inquisition was a game I was looking forward to. Upon the announcement, I followed news of its production carefully, and I loved much of what I saw. After my distaste with DA2, I was hoping this game would bring the series back to the standard Origins set. I was wrong.

The main story is decent at best. But first, in order to understand what is going on, you need to have played a DLC for Dragon Age 2. Now, the game is set up with standard go here and do this. But each quest is plagued with some questionable writing (Here Lies the Abyss is dreadful in its writing). Choices often don't matter much by the end of the game. You end up succeeding in most cases against the antagonist, who is not fleshed out, and never feels like an actual threat most of the game, and doesn't really drive the plot.

The cast. BioWare is known for having strong characters. And some are truly good. Varric makes a return, and his life is expanded upon beyond his role in DA2. Cassandra appears again this time as a companion, and is often brash, but supportive. Solas, an Elven apostate, is a character I have to give praise to as one of BioWares most complex and well written characters. I don't want to go into each character, but the companions and advisers are pretty good on a whole, with a few exceptions (Blackwall and Sera). Already mentioned was the antagonist, who is Corypheus, the antagonist from the Legacy DLC of DA2. With a cool back story, he really could have been crafted into a fine villain, but now remains completely forgettable.

Side quests are often boring, context less, and a chore to complete. NPCs have no real depth to them, no sort of backstory for us to piece together really. A lot of the content is collecting stuff to fill out or just finding objects, all of which is dull. Not only that, but in order to progress through the main story, you have to do some of this. Power is required to do main quests, so players at some point have to deal with this garbage, most of which is not good, thoughtful, engaging content. Some cool areas and some interesting bits of lore can be found, but not much else.

Gameplay. You have your traditional three classes; Warrior, Rouge, and Mage. Each offer different ways of playing the game. Tactics are almost nonexistent (despite BioWare saying this would be a more tactical game), and most fights require you to just spam you talents or spells (which you can only have a loadout of 8 instead of everything you have unlocked) without actually coming up with a plan. Most talent/spell trees don't really add new exciting abilities, instead just increasing damage or providing a larger range. The Ice and Fire spell trees are extremely similar, just as different elements. Healing spells has been completely removed (save for one spell from one specialization tree), as has the entire Entropy tree, which makes zero sense lore wise and it just taking away features for no real reason. You no longer have control over your attributes, with them being assigned by the game. Skills are yet again absent, but have a form of replacement in Inquisition perks and recipes. The established system from Origins has slowly been moved away from, with RPG elements being removed for a more streamlined game. I absolutely hate this.

Dialogue. The dialogue wheel makes a return, and things remain the same. Top is typically nice, middle a more funny or charming, and bottom is direct or aggressive. I know a lot of people like this, but limiting players to the usual three responses and telling you exactly how things come across feels like spoon feeding to me. You can unlock special options depending on your race and any dialogue perks you have unlocked. Often times, however, the options you pick don't have very meaningful results.

The Map. No longer do we have the exact same maps of DA2. Now, we have large ones, some completely massive. They look great, absolutely. But the are often empty, devoid of any real meaning. This goes back to the side quest problem. Often times, the maps offer nothing in good content to actually be worth your time exploring. One area is a massive desert that doesn't have anything going on in most of it.

Of course, there are positive aspects to this game. The cast is for the most part strong, with voice acting being solid, and in some cases great. The game looks great as well, and BioWare deserves credit for that. But when you start to examine areas beyond that, things get worse. Inquisition looks like a good game, but the deeper you dig, the more disappointment you find.

Expand

It’s an improvement over Dragon age 2 but it still leaves much to be desired.

The story and characters are good, not great, but still good. And it managed to keep me intrigued throughout the game. The world also had a good variety with a lot of different places to explore. Though a lot of places are not very interesting and the approach to a more open world fails at multiple times.

Though a lot of places are not very interesting and the approach to a more open world fails at multiple times.

The combat is like a mix between an action game and a strategic game but it’s not a good mix in my opinion. I feel like it should choose to either go back to the way Dragon age Origins handles combat and make it more strategic or make it a full-fledged action game. At the moment it’s like the game has an identity crisis and don’t know what it is which gives combat a weird and unsatisfying feeling.

And a lot of things in this game is simply boring, unfortunately. Even getting new loot is often boring. The main problem in that area is that most armor look the same, except for color variation. And to top it off the armor that you get don’t look epic in the slightest and in a fantasy game that is a big mistake.

But the main problem I have with this game is how it somehow feels like a single player MMO. There is a lot of quests to do but most of them are boring and repetitive and they lack variety and you don’t get invested in them. It simply has a massive quantity over quality approach which makes a lot of the content boring. If I compare it to Dragon age Origins there were not as many quests in that game but the quests were much better and much more enjoyable. You could ask the quest giver questions concerning the quests and you got involved in it before you even started the quest. But in this one it’s almost as if someone just says “Find my lost brother in this area, I beg you” and that’s it.

In the end this game gives you some of that grind feeling that an MMO provides, and I don’t mean that in a good way. It lacks focus and gives you content just for content sake with no real thought behind it. But I love the dragon age universe and the story and characters kept me going and that is what saved this game for me. Overall it was an enjoyable experience but it could be MUCH better.

For a 2014 GOTY winner, this was quite disappointing. Compared to other winners and candidates this game was not worthy of the title. The story was felt tiresome, the side-missions were a chore and the gameplay was very button mashy. There are much better F2P games such as Neverwinter and Path of Exile that is way better than this.

Queue repetitiveness, immersion breaking cutscenes and animations, cliffhanger ending that requires a dlc (that isn't available on the PS3 version BY THE WAY) to finish and the cowardice of the developers to not include the Hero of Ferelden in the story despite letting you create Hawke as a character and having him be part of a third of the main story, I just can't give this game any more than that score.

With this said, it's a personal gem of mine, and I think it has one of the best, if not best villains, plot twists and lore-building that I've ever seen in any video game to date.

The game is extremely grindy, even going so far as to pad time with real-time side quests, many of which are the conclusions to franchise-running plot lines and character arcs. Combat is bland and forgettable, the main villain as well, and the primary plot line has its moments but mainly just drags. The DLC, which goes back to a less open world, more directed level structure, is the complete opposite and contains some of my favorite franchise moments. Now, if you were hoping for the sequel to Dragon Age : Origins, give it up. In fact, they handled the situation so poorly with The Warden's absence (sorry, yes everything I hold dear is dying, but I'm not interested, here's a worthless belt you can sell for 18 gold) and Morrigan's presence during this huge threat, that it'll disappoint you (if you chose the Dark Ritual in Origins you're really going to be angry). Overall, I played the game for 121 hours and I found the whole Inquisition plot not very interesting. The power and respect you're given is forced too quickly without seeming to earn it. Rulers of Orlais and Ferleden don't care if your raising an army and fighting by yourself in their territories, and concede to your will automatically. You tend to stand around more in the game listening to people talk about adventures than actually having one. Unless you count fetch quests as adventures. The plot itself isn't very big, but it meanders around causing the game to drag on for hours and you to lose focus on what is important. It's not like Origins' more intense, focus plot. Dealing with the Mage and Templars. isn't anymore fun than it was in the last game. The use of the word "Inquisition" doesn't make much sense considering your job is to do people favors, find things and build an army like a ruler; not torturing people to admit to and rooting out heresy. I wonder if someone was just so in love with the title that the developers were forced to keep it regardless of the storyline or gameplay. But mostly, the problem with this game is its over numerous side quests that are straight from the MMO format of checklists; find twenty of this, find forty of that, kill these, kill those. It is a lot like that game Kingdoms of Amalur: 1001 Dull Quests. I'm also disappointed that all your decisions from the previous game, when you load them up on the EA web site, really don't matter but for conversational pieces, codexes and lackluster cameos. As part of a series, it's disappointing. What started out so great with the first game and had so much potential going forward, just falls flat because there's no payoff in progression with your decisions or characters like in the Mass Effect Series. It is another stand alone version as DA2 was. You could say that this game undoes everything that happened in Origins. Which makes replaying through the series useless.

There are some issues with this this games overall performance. Glitches in the "save game" can corrupt and freeze you out of playing any further. I recommend alternating between two save files.

It certainly isn't the prettiest game that has graced my PS4. Much better graphic wise than the first two, but far shy from where graphics are today. It must have been a rush job trying to port this game from last gen to next gen because the frame rates in the cutscenes and during conflict drop. Overall, the graphics just aren't that good as some things look great, like a rolling sea in the background or dragons that'll chomp you to bits, and yet others look bland and void of texturing. You see people losing their feet through floors and ground, people walking through each other, weapons disappearing in people (and not in a good way), and disappearing/reappearing objects or people as you walk around certain areas. I guess I found the whole animation just plain ugly. Nice facial features and more detail to characters wardrobe and weapons, but overall ugly looking npcs and the bodies that look like marinates. My dwarf just looks like a walking barrel. I hope when they retool Dragon Age 4 that they decide to put their effort into art animation like they did in their other series Mass Effect. The sound is most excellent, as you can hear many noises and conversations occurring a the same time.

As for Gameplay, combat is like DA2 not Origins, except you'll squeeze the trigger instead of pushing a button. There is no auto-attack where it needs one. And they're missing the Origins cool finishing moves, AGAIN. They added the "tactical view" but that doesn't work very well because it is way too sluggish to operate. Why didn't they take advantage of the touch pad for the PS4? What I really dislike about the combat is that enemies will respawn in certain areas like the game is an MMO. I also believe that they wasted their effort on making mounts to ride, for it is just as quick, if not simpler, to walk through the game. Leveling up has sadly changed as you can no longer put points into your attributes like strength and wisdom, but only in which type of attack you can have on your hot buttons. And it certainly has the most complicated, with the most numerous steps in craft making that I have ever played.

Overall, huge effort in making this game, but lack of direction and poor choices makes a lackluster game and ruins the series.

    Multiplayer? Ppphhhttt

Lots of skills to play with.
Combat can be as easy or hard as you want. If you play a really tactical game, and take the right skills, you can down a boss in a matter of seconds. or you can let the AI take over and fight it out in an old fashioned kind of way. It's your call.
Loads of story and lore if you are a fan of that kind of thing
    Bad
If you like good stories then you really need ti understand about previous DA games. I've played them all, but even I had trouble remembering some of the details. However, in order to understand the stories, you need to know about things like Grey Wardens etc as this game does not explain them to a newcomer.

Customization - Physical -I'm no artist, and no matter how long I spent in the character creation screen, I never managed to get a good looking character, and even the in game created characters aren't much better. Not a major issue, but with the amount of cut scenes in game, it would be nice to know my char didn't look like they were in the middle of a sex change operation, or had been in a horrific car accident. Romance is quite a big thing in this, and the only one I even came close to fancying was Leilana, and you can't romance her. Again a minor issue, but as romance is always part of DA, it would be nice to have pretty people doing it. Remember Morrigan :)

No customization of stats. I can choose the abilities I have but STR, DEX, etc are all decided by the game.

Landscapes - My biggest issue with this game! BW have made the game so rich in environments that you need a ping to highlight where loot/interactables are. This is a v good thing. For most missions, you are also told where to go so you don't need to be aimlessly wondering around, but the issue is even though I know where I need to go, BW have made getting to said places so unnecessarily difficult that it drives me mad. Ledges that look like you should be able to get up them but can't, long convoluted routes to something that is only a few feet away, in some case you have to go round a ridge and just keep jumping up until you finally find the ledge that looks no different from any other but BW have decided you can climb this one. It's incredibly tedious.
This is a huge game with loads to do, so we don't need annoying time sinks like this, just let the size of the game speak for itself!

I had heard through the grapevine that this game was also going to suffer from Bioware's ability to dumb down their games but I bought it none the less.

I prayed that hopefully there would finally be an original game I could play on my PS4 to make it worth the purchase but once again I have not found that game. The worst part is that this game has the potential to be up there with the greatest games ever made but it hasn't for me in my opinion, and I wanted to share why.

    Pro's

-This Game is stunning Visually, it takes my breath away with how amazing it looks, it blows my mind. It is so beautiful and the landscapes are amazing. The people that worked on making the game look nice really deserved that paycheck.

-Open World areas. The one thing that would've made DA:O a perfect ten was probably the fact that almost everything was closed in and linear when you arrive at a location. This game is wonderful at being so free in that regard.

-It's massive. Considering the copy paste of DA:2 settings over and over again for battles and locations, this thing is immense. Spending hours upon hours on one map that was created for a side mission is awesome.

    Con's

-They removed healing spells. That may not sound like a biggie, but it is to me. They added a cool tactical display that sort of gets ruined by the lack of ability to create tactics in this streamlined game. No longer can I heal myself and their excuse was basically 'People are dumb and don't know tactics'... well **** a duck...

-Limited Characterization. At least compared to the two previous games. Growing a character that is shoehorned into boring abilities with lack of customization compared to what we are used to is just lack luster.

-Removal of most of the inventory. Potions are handled separately, recipes are handled seperately, it's just god awful. The User Interface makes me want to slam my head into a wall.

-Cardboard characters. Who designed these characters? They are god awful. The new ones I mean, the ones from previous games are still awesome but most of the new ones (Especially the female ones are truly baffling). It seems everyone one I want to romance is gay or just doesn't want to make babies with me, just like real life.

-No threat/Storyline is lacking. I'm walking through the Hinterlands, swinging a sword at random nugs and admiring the beauty of the world they created while everyone I meet tells me the world is ending... Hell I haven't seen it. They keep talking about the breach from the start of the game but it doesn't effect me on any level. The last two games had more threat than the lovely green rifts that I can handle without breaking a sweat.

-Less Tactics Management. In the last two games there was a very detailed way to customize the A.I. to fight the way you want. You don't get that here for your characters.

-Towns feel empty. Even when they are filled with people... weird as that sounds it is true. You don't really talk to anyone, there is not many shops, choices to be had, or much to do. It's beautiful but empty.

-Horrible writing. I know I sort of already said this with the storyline, but seriously this game takes the piss when it comes to the writing for the characters. I mean somehow I became the Hero at the start of the game even though I didn't really do anything.

-Demographic. Bioware don't seem to know what their target demographic is. It's like they want to check all the boxes and in the process alienate their core audience (Or at least the ones that loved DA:O), and I believe that to some people this is their cup of tea or slice of cake. A lovely casual game because thinking is too hard. But being a lover of this genre of game makes me sad. Why? I feel disappointed with the game
    - the battles are plain boring, playing rogue with bow, you stand there and just fire away
    - the missions have ok stories, but in the end you still run around and do minor errands, pretty repetetive

I had expected just a bit of the tactics needed for Baldur's Gate and similar games

I thought it was a real sloppy move from Bioware, which had previously done something like the Mass Effect series, without messing with the saving progression of the story. not to mention that by using the name "Inquisition", Bioware has raised higher expectations of its game, for the possibilities were many. However the game does not add anything new, it is more of the same. Not much in terms of originality.

DA Inquisition is a game that has beautiful graphics, but its gameplay is awful. The AI acts strange, ignoring commands, moving when it is not supposed to and remaining still while being attacked. The 2 other games in the series had active battle which actually worked, which were much better implemented, and while the idea of a tactical camera is very good, in practice it is very awkward, because many times micromanaging is affected by the AI's inability to respond.

In terms of story, if the game were a spin-off it would have been masterful, however it feels completely disconnected of the other 2 games, with things being "reintroduced" without any connection, as if to say "Hey, you are continuing a story!". Tthere are so many side quests, that sometimes it feels as if you're both the life-saver and the errand boy of Thedas. Not much fun in gathering herbs or finding livestock lost in the mountains. The game lacks for its excess. Some quests fell completely unrelated to the story, and they start to get boring very early in the game.

Romancing was another big disappointment, considering previous games in the series, in which you could choose from psychologically different characters. the options in DA Inquisition are the least interesting in the whole series, at least for a straight male character. The most interesting characters to romance are unavailable, and that is another frustration. Just to compare, Mass Effect 1 had 2 options (for straight males), ME 2 had 4 and ME 3 had several, though not completely "romanceable". They were last generation games, DVD format.

In terms of challenge, the game itself is not difficult, but the stupidity with which the AI acts makes it much harder indeed. Even by disabling AI I still couldn't make a character stay still, and that resulted in dozens of deaths.

in relation to perks and skills, the game oversimplified the skill/perk tree, and removed the option to have a healer in your party. First RPG I ever played to do that, and I had to use potions throughout my game. Very frustrating, and again I felt cheated. The combat skills are somehow linked with DA 2 skills, though there is a lack of variation within classes. All characters within a same category feel exactly like the others. A rogue is a rogue, and a fighter is a fighter. No point in choosing, kept the same formation all the time.

While the item gathering has been increased, again it feels poorly implemented, and the inventory is so confusing that it took 20 minutes every time I wanted to rearrange/change equipment. Not to mention the similarity with Skyrim, mining for metals and crafting armor, though again without meaning or depth. the option to reset a character's skills seems valid after you reach a certain point in the game, but having that from the beginning only supports the idea of not needing to change party members. Only skills.

In a nutshell, everything in the game is massive, but shallow at the same time. It is like a restaurant which sells burgers, pizza, chinese, pasta, steaks and sushi, though none with excellence. Developers should have focused on what had previously worked, improved what needed to improve, and add SOME features, not making this attempt to include everything that was ever used before.

The whole idea behind rpgs are that they are fantasy based and you are given an opportunity to change your character into whoever you want then play through adventurous terrain. Nowadays the developers have forgotten what gameplay is and how important it is. Game studios now are as guilty as fast food restaurants making good wholesome produces into more accessible counterparts of half the quality. Yes improvements have been made on next generation consoles to better graphics and a larger game world but the gameplay suffers from what it should be. Remember games like mass effect and the elder scrolls series? This is what people want an adventure where you can explore a world, be who you want, go where you want and do what you want and have some say how it plays out. Replayable games that make you want to try again with a new character. Next generation consoles have made great strides building better larger worlds with better hd graphics but developers have done a terrible job with gameplay and also software bugs which breaks all fantasy immersion and belittles the whole idea of rpg and fantasy.. This game is no different, nice world, nice visuals but gameplay omg boring. Somewhere some development team brought the whole idea of workplace attitude into games it shows. No longer are developers making fantasy adventures with rpg elements and building a story into that to make it that much better they are just copying every other game out there. This game is not an rpg fantasy adventure. I want to be harsh so people are clear on my complaint, this game should be called "Dragon Age - Revenge of The Halloween Costume Party Scavenger Hunt Team". Yes, that is how i see this game its an elaborate fetch quest not an open world rpg. This is my critique of a lot of games these days way to much focus on the world design and such a poor idea of what good gameplay is and what gamers really want. We want choices, random loot, a huge game world to explore and consequences play out differently. We want non linear areas, we want interesting lore and creatures, we want game play that will make us feel like in a fantasy world. Certainly we don't want portrayal of real life anywhere. We don't want cutscenes that make us feel we are watching some cheesy tv program nor do we want a checklist of things to look for. We want puzzles and lore to back up the puzzle. So much is missing from this game. Its a drone of every other lazy made game with nice graphics. I can't score it that high. I appreciate how much work went into filling up the software program but at the end of the day i don't see myself interested in invensting my time in a scavenger hunt i can just go to a pawn shop in real life if i want. The mage/templar plot dominates the beginning of the game which slows it down if you didnt like it from DA2. Dragon fights are a bore with them getting stuck or spamming one ability for the entire fight. Most of your choices boil down to nothing, as expected from bioware.

Be warned, after all the patches and sticking to mostly flat ground, your horse can still sink into the ground and rocks. Loot drops for some inquisitor requisitions side missions are broken with you not being able to complete some of them. Also, the enemies scaling among their own level is screwy once you get deeper into the game. One notable example from this morning was a mage that took 2 minutes to beat while his warrior companions took less than 5 swings and this was a standard non quest mob.

Most of the games time is padded out waiting for characters and the game catching up with the dialogue and walking/riding around the map. This is on top of load screens sometimes approaching skyrim's in length.

If you can, grab this as a returned copy or wait about a month for the used ones to flood the stores. The game is broken, the team didnt see to care too much, this is my last pre-order bioware game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As I started playing this game I was quite excited. I have more or less played every Bioware game on PC and PS3. This game started off quite well and by the time the Inquisition HQ moved to Skyhold I was totally hooked. What a nice fortress and tons of stuff to do! Good! At that point I would have scored this game a full 10. Yes, I noticed the rather simple combat mechanics and the lack of real character building but the story was ok and I really felt being in control! Then I killed my first dragon, which was very "nice". Already a voice in my head was starting to whisper: "That fight was quite lame, unsatisfying...". I went on to kill a further three dragons and the score just kept dropping! Like slowly waking up from sleep I started to see that the combat system was a joke with no tactical depth, the missions repetitive and the ability-tree system just numbers with no real significance. It tells a lot about the quality of the combat and skill mechanics that I just randomly assigned my abilitypoints because the choices made really did not matter. And the characters..., Bioware, what have you done? I´ll go back to playing Dragons Dogma or Dark Souls... Expand

To me personally, Bioware isn't quite as good at making a long lasting story that sticks with the viewer. Yes I still enjoy their games for what they are and not saying the games super bad or anything. Though, sorry the story is very quick and bland really. The open world is a change, a small one though since it's what every other game is basically trying to do or has done. The open world is a change, a small one though since it's what every other game is basically trying to do or has done. Though, for DAI I find it really didn't do anything for the story as a whole. If you play just the main story the game will last maybe six hours if that, however if you enjoy the repeated side quests that the open world gives then sure you'll have days if not more of extra crap to do. Sorry for me it just doesn't stick. The companions even, except for a few are just remade older characters. I only found a few that actually stood out. It feels more like an MMO rather than an RPG. Sure you get very nice weapon customization, however the class customization is not as good at all. Hell they even took out most of the good classes that most fans enjoyed in the prior games. There is no more blood mage, for example. They condenced and tried to mix the trees into new warpped crappier versions. Thus all and all, I wasn't particularly thrilled with the game as a whole, fun one time playthrough, but nothing I'd play more than once. Expand

Between about 1987 and 2009, I played most PC RPGs. I remember having a fairly good time with the original Bard's tale and the slew of Forgotten realms PC games. One of the last games I played was the original Dragon Age before I switched over to console gaming and JRPGs almost exclusively. As far as storytelling goes, you can't beat a good JRPG (although there's a bunch of crap JRPGs out there), and their turn-based combat systems gave me my strategy fix.

So I picked up Inquisition in a bargain bin and thought I'd give it a try. As everyone says, Bioware has great stories and amazing writing, so I was looking forward to some good fun.

And the result is that I have finally experienced "open world fatigue" like everyone else has, who has continued to play western games.

Let me get the good out of the way first. The game looks great. There's lots of pretty areas to look at and explore. There's an immense amount of dialogue (all adequately voiced) and dialog options. And even though most dialogue options don't lead to a different outcome, at least they make you feel like they do. There's also no major holes in the story, which is good, because plot-hole-ridden stories have become common in cheap console RPGs.

As for open world fatigue, this game has it. It's chock full of unimportant side quests, which aren't related directly or by theme to the main story. And it seems like at least half of them have you running around to points on the map picking up various things from the ground. If you can spend 80 hours picking up shinies or cleaning up trash, you might get some enjoyment out of this. After about 25 hours of doing this, I realized that it wasn't fun for me and then focused on completing the main story, which I assumed must be amazing.

And I was wrong there. The story is your standard by-the-book evil bad guy wanting to take over the world. His motivations for doing so are a bit silly. His motivations might have been expanded upon in some of the sidequest materials, but I wasn't keen on putting myself though more of that and there were no indications or hints in the main story that there was more to uncover about it.

And the final confrontation with the evil bad guy was also disappointing. It's one of those where I told myself, "what was stopping me from doing this 20 hours ago?" The apparent answer is the leveling system. Because you must be at least XX level and have XX power to do the final battle. Well, that really breaks the immersion..

The combat has also evolved to become more action-oriented and less strategic. I was happy to see the inclusion of a combat pause function and the ability to see everything from a top-down view, but it's not as good as the oldies. You can't see nearly as much as you need to in the top-down view and assigning commands is more tedious than it needs to be, so I stopped using it and switched over to using the real-time combat. It's obvious that the real-time combat mode was the main focus by the developers.

So yeah, the game isn't really for me. I'm glad it exists though. It's nice to have some contrasting games now and then.

Another game with reviews paid for by EA? - That's what I'd say if I were a cynic.

However, I think the reason the game got super good 10/10 reviews, and is only now being 'revised' by those same reviewers as an 'average' game, is because DA:I is one of those 'front loaded' games.

That is, all the exciting ambitious and interesting stuff happens right at the start, a torrent of storytelling and action! There's no foreplay here, it's right into the act! And god, it's good, this fine babe (or lad if you're so inclined) is sensational... And then it is over, a premature ejaculation of epic proportions.

DA:I flops because once you get past the initial rush and buzz, it is essentially an MMO game crafted for single-player. Sure, it's "open-world" with selectable areas, and there are HUNDREDS of quests, but none of these are personal or interesting, merely being generic fetch-quests a kin to an MMO.

Worse still, the main quest, while fantastically written, ends almost as soon as you decide to follow it. It peaks early and declines steadily after that and there are no more than 8 main quests to go through. Sure they're reasonably lengthy, and they're fantastically written, but it's not even 1/4 of the game. The other 3/4 is dedicated to fetch-questing and running around like a headless chicken doing MMO stuff for MMO reasons in a single player game.

The 'war table' feature, where you assign your advisors to do important tasks on your behalf is simply a missed opportunity. You send them on missions and you have to wait for a real time timer to end. It's a concept locked behind an 'energy wall', akin to those crappy Candy Crush spin offs on your mobile phone.

We get it EA, you think mobile and online gaming is the future; Newsflash; both trends died or are dieing frigging years ago, get with the times.

What DA:I does have going for it is some fantastic character writing, on par with DA:O and absolutely miles ahead of the childish fantasies of DA2. But it hamstrings itself again with changes in art, changes in lore, retconning crap it doesn't need to be retconned. This time, the Qunari are changed, because their alien (and they are alien really) culture isn't in line with social 'equality', all of a sudden they've gone from mind-washing, "our society is right, a man is a man and a woman is a woman, they do gender assigned jobs" to a "transgender people are a-ok, genderfluid behaviour is completely normal".

Not only that, the world, a fantasy world has been switched to be exclusively LGBT happy and fair and the various soapbox, mouthpiece characters harp on about it a touch too much. This isn't the older Bioware approach that allows you to experience and witness mistreatment first hand and form your own opinion on it, like in DA:O where you can actually accept a bribe to allow your own wife to be gangbang raped -OR- go on a murdering rampage because of it - , no, this is the new Bioware, who will HAMMER HOME THE POINT and tell you that oh my god, rape is wrong, cos you're a child and these inspirational modern society commentary people will educate you on it. Jog on with the patronising behaviour Sir and focus on providing a GOOD RPG.

And that, is where DA:I falls apart, it is a generic, boring, social-commentary RPG tackling 'edgy' topics that most sensible, intelligent people already accept. It dumbed down its content to epic proportions, mindless fetch-quests, energy walls and so on. Not only that, combat has been adjusted to make it even simpler, removing all semblances of tactical flexibility and fun, truly DA:I succeeded where DA2 failed, in making the game a one button game - press button, boring stuff happens.

An epic missed opportunity, and a shame to all the paid critics for yet again **** their pants with 10/10's only to remark how average the game is five months after release (like they did with DA2...ugh)

I find it hard to believe this is the same company that made Baldur's Gate which was exceptional.

Your ability to build your character and party has been reduced since you no longer get attribute points to level up but instead you get certain points assigned when you choose specific abilities in the skill tree. You are also limited to how many potions you can carry, reduced to three potion slots and out of all the mage skills there is 1 single spell in knight enchanter specilization that can heal.

You can also no longer use abilities with the radial menu and eventually I had more abilities unlocked than I could assign to my controller. Party members need constantly told what to do such as telling mages NOT to run into melee range of Dragons or Giants time and time again, the AI for party members is really rather bad.

The voice acting is stellar, the cast did a great job especially Sera she has some great conversation's with the player and party members. There is also some great area's to explore but so little interesting content, my favourite part of the game was a Ball in the capital of Orlais which was beautiful and a very short venture into a Dwarf ruined Thaig. Battling Dragons is great fun and rewarding, the main story is rather short and has one or two twists that will surprise but the rest of it is very basic and predictable.

If i listed all my complaints I would need more than 5000 words and no one wants to read all that, so here are the main reasons why you should wait to play this game, if you ever decide to play
    1) Looting is a struggle because you have to stand right over bodies to loot and you have to use right click for the use key... which is difficult and frustrating key for that
    2) The graphics are seriously lacking for a game of its time... maybe if this was 2005 I wouldnt notice the glaring amounts of sheen on characters hair and the lack of finese.
    3) The combat... similar to the story line... is on a track. You just spam skills and left click (left click to attack is also really obnoxious) and you'll win. I was on normal so if you really want it to be hard you can kite around on harder settings and enjoy the auto-lock combat style.
    4) This IS NOT A FREE ROAM GAME... Contrary to what was advertised this game is very much so on a track and you play through it quest by quest... exploring has no real purpose and there's nothing pretty to go see because the graphics kind of blow.
    5) Your character responds when you don't want him to and will say too much or not enough, you aren't even in control for the dialog at all times,
    6) I was going to stop at five but this really is an obnoxious quality that I cant leave out: the music is terrible. I have only heard one combat song so far and it plays outside of combat too! The undertone is too loud and it drowns out the rest of the sounds. There is no stable equalization! Its so frustrating to listen to this game.
Bonus: you are always running... shift is too hard to program as a run feature now and they already gave you jump so what more do you need.
Okay so here's the only reason I played it as long as I did: no invisible walls. That right there is amazing. If my character could feasibly do something with jump i was able to get there. Which was awesome! I feel like if they put that much thought into the rest of the games design we would be experiencing next gen. **** here fellas.

Unlike some, I didn't have a problem with the controls and the graphics were lovely. My biggest issue was with the world and the narrative. The game borrows from Elder Scrolls in that it has very large environments, however unlike in the Elder Scrolls series, the environments are barren and uninteresting. The AI is also not very good.

The game assumes you're going to be playing as a human or an elf and if you're not then you're going to run into some serious problems during cutscenes. If you're playing as a qunari or a dwarf, expect your characters head to not be visible during some cutscenes as the camera won't adjust itself for your height. The character creation isn't particularly my cup of tea either. For someone reason Bioware spent all their time and effort allowing you to change the size of your adams apple instead of giving players more varied hair styles. The hair cuts are the same regardless of race or gender, with the exception of qunari. Qunari players will only get about 5 or 6 near identical hair styles to choose from. In addition the armor for the player character looks the same regardless of race or class. There are some exclusive armors for race but not many. As for crafting, it's not particularly good but it could be worse.

For a role playing perspective, the game doesn't offer very many diverse dialogue options. I remember before the game came out the developers were saying you could play as a tyrant-you really can't. For players like myself who enjoy role playing evil characters there's not really many options. In addition, Bioware blatantly ignores many of the players choices for previous games to make a world closer to what THEY want rather than what the player wants. For instance, a major character from Origins can potentially be killed off in that game. No matter what the players decision that character will be alive and well in Inquisition. There will be a slight mention of their "death" in the game but it barely plays into their character, and this just one of many instances of this sort of thing happening in Inquisition. I honestly wouldn't have a problem with this if Bioware wasn't claiming to make choice based RPG's, because they're really not. This is easily one of their most linear products.

Probably the biggest issue I have with the game is the narrative. So much of the story takes place on this awfully implemented feature call "the war table" which is straight up filler used to extend the game. To make matters worse, the game has quite possibly the weakest conclusion I've ever seen in a game. It shamelessly ends on what is basically a trailer for DLC.

Long story short, while not the worst game I've ever played this was easily one of the most disappointing and the last time I'll buy one of Bioware's products.

But then there is the gameplay. What began in such a promising fashion gradually became more and more of a neverending list of a chores. How many times can you close a rift populated by the same five or six types of demons before it loses any feeling of excitement? How many times can you return to an area to fight the same dangerous creatures/mercenaries you wiped out five minutes ago (especially when they are so obviously re-spawns on a short time interval?) How many times can one be sent to fetch some ridiculous number of raw materials across the countryside? How often do I have to enter an new area opened up to me by the game, only to discover that the encounters here are about five levels too much for me, and I must retreat and whittle away at random creatures for god knows how long.

Others have spoken in detail about the combat, so I won't spend too much time on that here, except to say, I agree that it is largely a hollow experience.

The further the protagonist gets, the more this endless grind overwhelms the other aspects of the game. I actually had to put it down the first time around, as I burned out on it around level 15, and didn't pick it up again until months later.

It seems fairly obvious that the MMO influence has crept into DA:I, with all that genre's cheap Skinner Box tricks and shallow gameplay. Sadly, it seems these tactics work well enough for the majority of the gaming public, so I'm guessing we will see more games following its example in the future. Me, I guess I will be playing the first Mass Effect again, and hoping BioWare realizes they can do better than DA:I.

The closest Corypheus gets to his moment of triumph is at Haven, where he sacrifices most of hes army to destroy a small village, again proving he has no clue what he is doing, in fact i fail to take him seriously, i think Turner D.Century or Egg Fu is better villain than Corypheus.

As for the game it's easy even on nightmare, Main Story is mediocre,Side quests have no context nor do they aid you in your struggle against this laughable foe (Corypheus)
rendering them completely useless or not worth your time.

Gameplay is made for violent 12 year-olds kids, games fast pace and MMO-like combat makes any attempt of skillful strategy useless as game gives you option to just charge in and button mash your opponent to death making tactical screen useless.

Not to mention i want to kill almost every character in the game aside from Solas, Sera and Jossie.Even my Origins favorites like Morrigan, and (unusually happy considering the situation Redhead rouge named ) Leliana.

Severely reduced RPG elements, that makes me ashamed to call this game an RPG, because it's more of a FPS.

Overall Dragon Age Inquisition is a mediocre game somehow worst game then its predecessors, made by a studio that is at this point in time a mere shadow of its former glory.

Sera is a great character. love her. everyone else kinda sucks. the game LOOKS bland. it just looks like any typical medieval fantasy thing, with no distinct aesthetic quality of its own (it looks like Witcher, Skyrim, and Fable blended together). the music has no idea what it's doing. sometimes epic string music will swell and come to a crescendo...in the middle of a conversation, when nothing exciting is going on. NPCs spend most of the time bugged out. my inventory is CONSTANTLY full, and you don't have anywhere to store things for the first 30 hrs or so of gameplay, so you end uo having to just throw away everything you find if you want to loot new stuff (yes i know you can sell stuff, but then you have to travel to a town, find a vendor, sell everything, then make your way back, and that effort just isn't worth it). combat is still not BioWare's strong suit.

that said...the game isn't all bad. i don't have any strong praise for it tho. the story is fine. the gameplay, overall, is fine. it's whatever. i just don't get the hype.

One more thing, Bioware nowadays is so liberal and open-minded, that, I believe, honestly thinks that they can add another layer to the otherwise practically non-existing story of DA: Inquisition by adding gay relationships. And of course they told us about that like a 1000 times. Like it was a heroic deed. And not something you do to make a story better if you think it can actually make it better. And if it doesn’t you don’t do it. And they did it not for the sake of more publicity. Of course not… Well… They clearly want appreciation from everyone. Ok, let’s all pat them on the back. And I have a great suggestion, guys, next time make protagonist a transgender and main quest should be to prevent global warming. It’ll be great improvement from the shallow lifeless story you gave us in DA: Inquisition. Then we all’ll be happy.

Instead of giving us time-killing nothings to compete with juggernauts like Skyrim why don't you give us a competent storyline; something you haven't done since Mass Effect 2?

The one saving grace are the interesting characters that kept making come back and playing, they made me "FEEL" something.

Why, oh why, are there game-breaking bugs and crashes in this AAA game? What the hell do you think you're doing releasing a game earlier? Making a worse game.

The combat is dreary and repetitive, the number of abilities and customisation of said abilities is severely downgraded from the previous titles.

Unfortunately I couldn't make myself keep playing, and I've left it to fester within its case. Never again will I pay this much money for something that has disappointed me so very harshly. I've learned my lesson.

There was no urge to wander off the path, and the quest style was essentially a generic grind with useless objectives that you'd find in vanilla World of Warcraft.
But, all that aside, the combat system is the real reason why this game is a boring piece of **** on a disk. I wanted to love this game so badly. I tried to like it. I tried every class, hoping that different moves would feel more rewarding or fun. Nothing was exciting, everything felt like a useless button smash as i held a trigger down. I'm playing on a PS3 and the graphics are horrible. The characters all look too shiny. Controls go wonky at times like you hit one button for a spell and the map comes up. I've had the game crash about 3 times. There's something wrong with the sound as well, voices are speaking when the NPC is dead, music plays then stops, etc. I've also just killed a deer and he amazingly rose from the dead and is standing in a forest all frozen! The crafting system is tedious and too big, the character creation process is tedious and too big as well plus the hairstyles are horrible - how many bald headed and short-short haircuts do we have to have?? There's about 5 or so. Tactics system is gone and the new tactics camera is ridiculous. I do not want to have to micromanage every fight I have. There are no dwarves to speak of, no children, no funny townspeople, and even my hero is boring. I'm playing a mage and the way the camera angle is I can't even see what my companions are doing because I'm so far away. I can't even tell if my spells are hitting. If I get closer the enemies all come after me. The AI is inconsistent - I'll wipe out one group with ease then get killed with one-hit by an archer in the next! Very frustrating. • Graphics look like something from 2007 Someone should tell Bioware this is 2015

    • Pacing is horrible it gets better after about 20 hours sort of like Final Fantasy 13 but that's not really a strong suit

    • Multiplayer is like Dead Space 2 multiplayer in that it's boring and forgettable.

    • Quests are MMO type quests once again not a strong suit especially for a single player game

    • Bugs, bugs and oh yeah bugs. You'll need to keep a few saves. This is a beta, not a release. Don't listen to what they say - the quality of this game is late alpha or early beta quality at best.

Conclusion: I wouldn't pay full price for this It will come down in price shortly so wait

It is so boring, that I stopped playing around 20 hours in, left it for a month, came back and could only stand to play 4 hours before quitting again. I really want to like this game but it has no redeeming qualities. It is a adventure MMO with very light rpg elements thrown in just to be able to label it an RPG. Customization is narrow and the story... oh my god the boring story and worthless characters. Imagine the worst MMO you ever played, with forgettable characters, cheap fetch quests over and over, meaningless plot development, and classes with "I win" buttons. That is DA:I to the letter. Even graphics, which are supposed to be incredible are ugly except maybe the environment. I hate the shiny finish everything has but I will let that go. The worst part of this game is gameplay. DA:I forces you into a story that you cannot really influence. You play it their way or you are SOL. For instance, in the winter palace, they actually put a timer on you to finish the quest when all I wanted to do was kill everyone in the palace. I actually wanted the assassins to win because I hated the other side. Do you have a choice in the matter? Nope. This is why it does not feel like an RPG. Nothing you do matters regardless of choice and the entire plot is very linear despite trying to fool you with a plethora of side quests and large psuedo-open maps. You either do as you are told or you lose. Back to gameplay, Mages and Warriors are poorly balanced. Mages can beat the entire game on any difficulty with 1 button (maybe 2 in case of emergency). Same with warriors. Rogues are absolutely attrocious because of all the melee AOE enemies in the game and their lack of survivability. Their only choice is to be archer which is fine to stay alive but they are so weak that they cant do anything on their own. Enemies get stuck while getting attacked, and so do your allies. You allies do not follow commands when told to do so. There is no strategy at all in this game. Crafting is worthless so far (25 hours in and the stuff i found is much better than anything I can craft). The loot system sucks the big one.

I have nothing good to say about this game except that it works and does not crash very much. I wish I could get a full refund.

I could not make it out of the first village/town. Yuk! The combat is abysmal. The character movement and that of the companions makes me want to giggle. The fact that I do not have to do a single thing, and that the companions will fight for me, is just an LOL moment. This game needs a way to turn off most of the icons on the map. Just a bunch of useless things to do in the beginning.

Overall, I just hated it from the second that i got to the character creation (very beginning). I tried on 10 different occasions to enjoy this, but it was just more than I could overlook

The new tactical mode for consoles is broken and completely unusable. Characters are completely boring and the writing is the worst in any Bioware game to date. This game is even worse than ME3 or DA2! They probably spent more time on "sexytime" romance options for Iron Bull than on actual gameplay. -____-

The game's major let down is it's healing and Health situation... or lack thereof. The mage has NO Heal spell to help you thru combat. This is needed if playing on hard or above hard. To make matters even worse, when your party dies and you need to reload, you may find yourself respawning with 5% Health for the whole party. This is potentially a game-breaking , broken feature because if you are far from a camp and a tent therein to heal your party by then you may find yourself actually having to RESTART with a brand new toon from the beginning if you become sick of being played by Bioware in this manner. I actually found myself in this situation. For me the game is just talk, talk and more too much talk. The Heal situation is frustrating and will have you wish to have the game's devs called to account. Also despite the hype we were overfed before launch, the game is not open world at all. It has the same boxed in maps as the last games just a little larger. I would avoid this game like the plague. Don't waste your money on a game that is made to frustrate. Perhaps if the devs actually played the frustrations they make they might be able to do something about avoiding them, but it takes actually trying your mistakes out first before any real change can be affected. It's like somebody made a "paint by numbers" RPG that looks like it's covered in some sore of shiny goo. Played about 10 hours then got incredibly bored. Annoying characters, AWFUL combat and AI, MUH DIVERSITY, rancid controls etc. The last time I buy a game in this series. Just awful.

After all this time, I have just given this game a go.

    It has no charm.
It has poor graphics (much worse than Origins which is an older game).
    It has poor controls.
    It has a stupid story.
    It is VERY boring.

Even after paying only $5 for it, I want my money back.

The characters are superficial and boring. The Iron Bull beast romance option is disgusting. Tolerance and equality is good, but having what feels like half of the characters in the game to be LGBT feels forced. The UI is horrible and really annoying. The game is full of tons of bugs.

I finally gave up after forcing myself to play this abysmal game for 12 hours and sold my copy as fast as I could to the next sucker. Avoid this completely unplayable drivel at all costs. Don't believe the bought critics or the perfect 10 user ratings from EA drones. I used to be a huge Bioware fan, but have now come to the realization that this once great studio is truly dead. Are you kidding? I'm wondering if Bioware is paying people to review this game, or if these five star reviews from people are those who've never played the previous games, and enjoy choppy dialogue, pointless quests and a whole lotta cheese.

I bought this game a bit worried, after the first bits of gameplay were revealed, none of it focused on the story. Then...seeing some negatively scored reviews on here(though surprisingly few) got me even more nervous.... Rightly so.

When I first started playing. I was so excited. The game was beautiful. And despite having to restart twice, because my Dragon Age Keep wouldn't load right, and then 20 times after just to make sure I liked my character's face, I was still psyched to play.

However, in the opening scenes I could already see issues. The dialogue was clunky, odd and unnatural; though I quickly ignored it. There was a bit of that in Dragon Age 2, and I still managed to love that game. But ...wait... were the characters....lip-syncing?

I'm sorry, but in all the other games, it has never been so off and so distracting. I believe I could've done a better job at matching the words to their lips half the time, and I'm total bs with editing!

Still, I kept at it. The main plot was just intriguing enough, though I had to ignore the "Oh! There goes our lord and savior the Herald" and other unending cheese-fests within the dialogue to enjoy it. I believed it would get better.

Eventually I played about 25 hours, and realized I was going nowhere. I had just gotten to the part where I can increase my relationship with my characters, and the dialogue with them was the most awkward, unnatural dialogue, I've ever heard in a video game. Let's just say...if you were interested in romancing a character before... You won't be now.

But even if you decide to not romance a character, and even if you decide to not do the pointless(get me 5 of this herb, deliver this letter, tell this person that person is dead)quests of which there are an unending amount, there's still the fact that, as you go, the main quest gets weaker and weaker.

I could seriously write a book on how disappointed I am...but honestly, this game isn't even worth it. You can dress up crap in the prettiest box, with ribbons and bows and bells and whistles...but the fact is...it's still crap.

Here are some things to keep in mind before purchasing this game:

-The tactical system is worthless. ...I actually enjoyed DA2 combat better than DAO despite popular opinion, because I also love action game combat. But this one, was a horrid "abomination" of the two(hehe). Ah! And I heard it's downright awful on the PC, so if you're a PC gamer, I would check that out.

-The dialogue will seem weird, clunky, stupid, and might cause rage attacks. Also, if you are romancing a character, it will probably seem odd or even just plain creepy at times. If you want to have a relationship with any character, you just have to get used to it. The only love interest character that seemed to mostly avoid bad writing was Dorian(although I haven't played all of the romances to completion)

-Silence. And get used to it. There's almost 0 party banter now. I never realized how much I enjoyed it, too.

-Herald on high(this needs to be a point on it's on). Now this seems like it would be cool, but when your companions/strangers/enemies, revere you for being a God, for doing, pretty much NOTHING, but being the Inquisition's puppet....it get's pretty old.

-The character is not you. And there's nothing you can do to make her feel like you.
First of all, I have a problem with voicing characters that you want to be "The Player". In Hawke's case(from DA2), it made sense. We were playing Hawke, not ourselves. In this game, not so much. It's supposed to be me...and most of the time, I wouldn't say things with the inflection or tone that this character says them.
Second of all, none of your dialogue choices make her a different character. You are the same either way. The Herald: Nice or mean. But judg-er of all. There was a moment were I felt unbridled hatred for "myself", when she sat on her throne(not kidding) and tells her men(in a condescending voice) either to kill the person you're judging or banish him or throw him in prison for the rest of his life. I wanted to cut off my own head!

But besides all this: The fact that Bioware's writing has gone to hell, poor/AI reliant combat layout, mindless busywork that's only enjoyable until you realized you spent 10 hours doing things that got you no cool cutscenes and no interesting dialogue, pretty much every "new" thing that advertized works poorly or with difficulty if at all(aka crafting, horses, modifying armor), not to mention the ridiculous amount of glitches...

I can say...the music was pretty, the graphics were amazing, and the game shows a lot of grandeur that may appeal to some's ego.

But nothing saves bad writing. Nothing.

I'll think twice before purchasing my next Bioware title.
