That being said, when put in the context of a game, it should involve a balance between action, that being the gameplay, and character, that being able to portray a protagonist one can connect with. Games like Skyrim and Dark Souls have, in many peoples’ eyes, perfected the gameplay aspect. Though they had enticing characters and stories, whether they achieved sympathy from players is debatable. Dragon Age, being a franchise of games that has had polarizing entries, has never really perfected both aforementioned sides in either of its earlier entries. Dragon Age: Origins had great strategic gameplay that was praised for being just that, yet it was criticized for being tedious at times. Dragon Age 2 tried to correct that with its fast-paced action, yet it was panned for being too repetitive – especially for its repetitive environment- and being too “button-mashy” in an attempt to cater to a wider audience. In terms of story and characters, though this being a personal opinion that would definitely find some opposition, Bioware always succeeds to draw the player in, even to a certain extent. Dragon Age: Inquisition is a game that tries hard to atone for the previous entries’ sins, and it does that quiet well through its enticing story, immersive game-play and varied missions.
A spoiler-free summary of the game would be that it revolves around your character being of customizable race (qunari, human, elf or dwarf) and gender waking up after a, literally, explosive event that only he or she has survived. With a glowing mark on his or her hand, your character slowly takes a place at a top of a newly re-instated faction whose main goal is to bring peace to a land plagued by conflict and civil war, while also trying to save the world from an imposing and glooming evil. Though the story at first glance may seem predictable, it becomes after a few hours and after the first major event twenty hours in that that is far from the truth, and that in actuality you have not even scratched the surface of what the game really is. The characters are so well written, each with a certain and unique personality, past and motives. Ever character seem realistic and alive. These characters have been alive way before the events of this games. Thus it is not hard to connect at a certain level with each and every one of your companions and advisors, or even the non-playable minor characters. Thus, the plot and its elements are as perfect as perfect can get despite some faults here and there.
The game-play, as stated earlier, is immersive as you explore greatly varied lands, battle a wide range of enemies, and make significant choices. The areas you get to explore, to be simply blunt, are huge. Even the smallest of areas has so many secrets and landmarks to find. Though there is no physical evidence of it, one can say that the size of the game when it comes to land that can be covered is comparable if not bigger than Skyrim. Each area in the game has specialized opponents to face, yes some can be encountered in several areas, but they never feel out of place and native to said areas. Furthermore, each type of enemy should be approached in a certain manner that would be more effective for defeating it, like ice attacks from mages for fire based enemies, or bash attacks from warriors for others. Of course it should be obvious that gameplay varies greatly from the class you’ve chosen, but do not fret as you can experience others by taking control of one of your four out of nine selected companions on missions. There is also a tactical view that involves pausing the game, positioning your party, and creating a well fleshed battle tactic in real-time if one would like to call it that. There is also a great crafting system that allows players to scavenge for resources and create equipment. The equipment is set in terms how much of one kind of said material is needed, as in four leathers, five metallic, and ten other metallic material. The material can be chosen by the player, which thus changes the color and attribute of the crafted armor or weapons. Moving one to choices, the player is always involved when interacting with other characters, and one’s options can have significant outcomes and even the most minute and seemingly irrelevant conversations. This seeps into how missions are carried out, even the most “side-questy” type. You are also allowed to analyze certain situations at the war table, and choose who is most fit to carry out resource and influence bearing missions for you and in what manner. And so, the gameplay all in all falls nothing short of keeping up excitement and inclusivity of the player.
In conclusion, Bioware has crafted a great RPG that is worth all the time and money that one would put into it, as it is always striving after player satisfaction when it comes to the game-play

I haven’t finished the game yet but invested a little more than 55 hours into it. So far every minute has been a blast :) !

The world is huge and offers a lot of variety. Actually the game often reminds me of a typical MMORPG like World of Warcraft, just without the other players. You have resources that needs to be collected to build new weapons or equipment, you have dungeons where you can find treasures and hideous monsters, different kind of mounts to quickly ride through the enormously large landscape, several races with different stories and of course different classes to choose from.
I wouldn’t be surprised if EA and BioWare use this game as a template to publish a real MMO in the future. I, for one, would definitely buy/subscribe it!

Even though the graphics might not be the very best for a next generation console, it’s really pretty and doesn’t need to hide behind the competition.
The zones are huge, show a lot of detail and offer a rich variety of animal life and plants. It’s impressive to see that the game doesn’t need to load when walking through a zone… even though they are really large. Even moving from one zone to another doesn’t result in a lot of loading time. Destiny’s loading times are far worse, for instance.

The sound is great, too. The music is wonderful and whenever I’m in combat, the sound effects are great and authentic.

The controls are tight and action oriented, which is absolutely fine by me. There is a tactical view but I prefer to fight in real time, giving the game a slight hack and slay character. I play on “hard” difficulty, which is manageable in the action view if you know your abilities and know what to do. I only switch to the tactical view when fighting dragons from time to time.

The story is great and entertaining. I personally liked the story of Dragon Age Origins and the Mass Effect trilogy better, but Dragon Age Inquisition is still doing a splendid job in sucking you into its story.
The only thing I sometimes find exhausting is that you kind of regularly “have to” talk to your party members and NPCs to get hidden quests or to gain other benefits. As I said, you are not forced to talk to them but I feel that you would be at a disadvantage if you don’t do your regular rounds and talk to each and every one of them.
This has been a BioWare issue from the first hour, though.

I do miss a kind of bank where I can deposit all the stuff that I don’t wanna carry around with me all the time. At the moment you either have to sell or salvage it.

Conclusion: Dragon Age Inquisition is a superb Action RPG with beautiful graphics, great sound and a gripping, well-told story! With 50 – 200 hours of unique gameplay (depends on the number of side quests you are doing), it’s hard to claim that the game is too expensive or that it doesn’t offer enough content for its price tag. Recently it received the Game Of The Year 2014 award and I can only share this sentiment.

Amazing game, a must buy for dragon age lovers! It truly delivers an action packed game play with a story that keeps you griped when start to finish. No more of the reused dragon age 2 areas those days are gone and behind them, they listened to the fans and produced a game so good I believe it is easily a contender for game of the year

There just too much too list on why and how great the game is but will say on my first playthrough I put in over 200 hours and still haven't completed or done everything game has to offer, now that's something you always want and should expect from any great RPG and there is also the coop multiplayer mode which to be honest is a lot better then I thought and really does have a lot to it but at end of the day I would have preferred they they took the time they put into a multiplayer mode and have put it into the storyline and storytelling of the game since that's what is more important and why people buy and play these type of games for. Also I would have prefered a true coop mode in the single player campaign mode itself that allowed others to join you on your campaign the way they always made it not these separate coop multiplayer modes that nowadays are made and thrown in as money grabs and not to actually better better the game or experience.

Only reasons I didn't give it a 10 was due to the storyline and storytelling not being on par with DAO but still good enough just not as great and due to some game design decisions like not having healing or blood magic class for what is obviously due to game design choices that they decided to go along with which at least with healing I bet was due to the new coop multiplayer mode and how they designed it to be played.
I won't even go deep into blood magic class but will say after allowing it for two titles and it perfectly working and fitting using lore as an excuse is just stupid and doesn't make sense on so many levels if you actually played both DAO and DA2 and that's all I will say on that.
The last hiccup and reason for me was not having storage chests after also having storage chest in both DAO with the Warden's Keep DLC and DA2 period you would think they would remember to add this one simple and important feature to any RPG nevermind RPGs that have any form of housing.

Aside from those minor dislikes still a masterpiece and great RPG and game at end of the day that can and will only get better and even more so if DLC for DAI is as plentiful and full of quality as DLC from past DA titles were. This game should be candidate for both 2014 game of the year and RPG of the year that's for sure.

Wow. This game overcame my greatest expectations. For the first hour or so of gameplay, it left me a bit confused, not because it's unclear or misguiding, but because there is SO much to do and so many new features to discover it literally makes your head spin at first. And that's a good thing. The game is very deep, unveils an amazing (and customizable) story line, has compelling characters, a vast and beautiful open world, rewarding combat system (it's the perfect mix of DA:O and DA2) and incredible next gen graphics.

One of the most interesting aspects is the same one I didn't really like at first; To continue the main quest chain, you have to unlock it by spending ''Power'' points you get by completing side quests and other open world tasks. What's great about it, is that it forces you to explore the world and see what the side quests have to offer. I usually stick to the story quests and go through a game in 15 hours or so and end up disappointed that it wasn't longer. With Inquisition, I finished my first playthrough after a whopping 60 hours of gameplay, and I didn't do all the sidequests.

Get the game, take your time to explore everything it has to offer and I promise you won't regret it.

The best thing is, in my opinion, the size of the map; it's not a open world game like Skyrim, in which you can travel anywhere anytime, but there are many locations. In DA:I, you will need to fast travel to get to different places or cities. But once you go somewhere, there are really huge areas for you to explore, maybe the biggest improvement in the series. The game presents nice visual effects, like the sun light or the water movement. The downside is the characters interaction. In the DA:O, you could go to your camp and talk with your party members to change their approval, give them gifts to love or hate you, etc. In this game, I didn't feel the same need, for example, to choose my answers to party members carefully, because the worst thing that could happen is read that they slightly disapprove, disapprove or greatly disapprove. And it stops there. It may change a couple of lines later, but doesn't make a big difference. But the dialog parts are still nice, with the option of being "correct", funny or more brutal, or even more options depending on the dialog. Good sets of customizable weapons and armors based on crafting and resources collecting. You can date most of your crew members, same sex or. Good game lenght as well, with lots of (sometimes silly or repetitive) side quests. I will not review multiplayer, since I've not played it enough yet. Overall, it's a must buy for new/old RPG gamers or... any gamer, actually. Expand

I am loving my time in Ferelden. The combat is challenging at first (however I would like a few more tactical choices), the world is absolutely magical, so much to explore and take in, the story is well done as well (and I say that encompassing ass dialogue, side quests, lore and main plot). Overall, DA:I is a wonderful game, and I feel dirty saying that because it has EA on the logo.....

I recommend getting used to the system of DA:I, and then turning every assist feature off (pause during AoE, spells not hitting friendlies etc) and put the game on hard. Also, turn off any HUD and explore the world with your eyes. I feel this is the best way to engage yourself in the game and truly take in the experience. This also points tot he flaws I have with the game. Even with HUD off, I should be able to quickly check party health (especially during non combat) without having to open the tactics menu, I should also be able to gauge my controlled characters health (verbal comments, red screen etc). Also, the search function should give some kind of visualization towards the direction an item was pinged (similar to when locating key items).

Overall I would definitely recommend DA:I to any person looking for an RPG experience. Well done Bioware.

Whereas I enjoyed the statecraft aspects of the game, the character development and progression, and the decision matrix, those same features may come across to someone else as boring.

The fighting mechanics and fighting are gratifying if you're the kind of person who likes damage counters, life bars, and a third person perspective, but as I said before, depending on who you are this may be a turn off.

The menu system can be a bit unapproachable at first, but as the game progresses, one becomes more familiar with it, but that's not to say that things could not be simplified, but the bad UI doesn't detract from the experience.

Overall, I think it's a great game with a great story with especial nods to those who've experienced the previous entries. Item crafting was a new feature introduced in this installment. It becomes more satisfying as you gather more schematics and crafting materials. The customization options in the game go beyond just weapons and armors, but extend to your story, your main character and your base of operations at well.

At the same time it's not without its faults like the aforementioned menu system. There is also the "white noise" that is too common with large scale RPGs, you know, collect these, go here, do that. I enjoy exploring the map as much as the next gamer, probably more as I consider myself a conpletionist, but even I got tired of scouring the terrain for a single item that has no effect on the story or the gameplay at large.

Before I conclude, the maps are gorgeous and huge and immersive. The world of Dragon Age came to life for me in this sequel, but it's not a true "open world" game because the world is broken up into explorable regions. But yes, I would definitely recommend this game.

This is the game that has drawn me back into the Dragon age universe. In every way this game is what this genre has needed. It manages to combine action, good story telling, interesting characters, and a fairly open and very VAST world into a tapestry of fantasy that is hard to forget.

I am not a huge fan of everything of course, the stiflingly simplistic character progression annoys me... As a rogue archer, being totally limited to my bow seems like an unnecessary restriction.

I understand the design decision, but I don't like it.

Thankfully the game doesn't lose any points for this because it makes up for this annoying restriction with FUN combat, that can get a bit repetitive once you unlock all your abilities, but still leaves plenty of room for both micromanaging a fight or playing it more like an action game and let the AI run the show.

The Graphics on the PS4 are stupendous. Obviously PC users will see some better visuals, but I am 100% satisfied by the PS4 performance.

Some other areas that are annoying is the typical bioware tendency to create SO much conversational dialogue that at times it can be tedious when it is all lumped into a single setting.

For example - When are you just returning to camp to follow a quest chain and discover all the NPC's have new dialogue this can either be really great if you are in the mood for some down time, or REALLY annoying if you originally only meant to stop in to craft a new weapon or something similarly brief.

Like most Bioware games, each new area might have a half hour of dialogue waiting for you if you are OCD like me, and don;t like letting new NPC's go without exploring the whole dialogue tree. This can really bog the game down sometimes.

Conversely, this can be a great thing, because Bioware rarely fails when it comes to writing interesting or engaging dialogue trees or characters.

Still, Like all bioware Games the dialogue is a big deal, it's not smart to skip it or rush, or you will miss key parts of the story, or the characters personality and even decisions that could effect the game later.

Overall however these complaints are little more than little nagging annoyances in an otherwise well executed game.

i do agree with some of the criticism of the game, the combat could be better for people who want a more tactical RPG feel. This is way more Twitchy and FPS, and the tactical turn based element on PS4 is lacking.

However, I didn't select this game for it to be a tactical turn based old school RPG. I buy Bioware games because they tell amazing stories with engrossing characters and build settings that are deep and immersive.

say what you want, but Bioware rarely makes a bad game, and even their bad games are typically better than most other companies good ones.

YES, EA has had some negative influence over them... But they still do best what they have always done best.

Tell stories and craft huge engaging worlds.

The game also has a fantastic voice acted cast of 9 companions, and since this a BioWare game you have the option to romance these people if you wish. And let me tell you, these romance scenes are top-notch. The story is fantastic and as long as you would expect a good RPG to be, at about 80- 100 hours. Also, the dragon battles are incredibly satysfying as they actually require strategy to defeat because of their size and power, and every dragon is different! Some use armor, some don't, some have major weaknesses that other dragons don't have. This game is great but does have some flaws. Some of the side quests are really just fetch quests, making some of the game feel MMO-like, and there really isn't that much armor variety in the game, so you may keep your same armor set for dozens of hours at a time. But the negatives pale in comparison to the great things this game does. I believe this game is a great addition to the Dragon Age series and is rightfully the game of the year! Expand

So, after the disappointment of DA 2 and ME3's ending, i lost in faith Bioware. But after i played through Inquisition, my faith in them was restored. This time around, the world is under attack by demons, not darkspawn, but demons, and before say it, no this game's story is not ripped straight from oblivion, in Oblivion the story focuses on finding the emperor so he can help you stop the invasion of the deadra, In DA:I you are the leader of a faction called the Inquisition (hence the name Inquisition in the title) preparing to defend the world against demons. You also can use a feature called Dragon Age: keep, It lets you customise things such as decisions in previous title so they can effect the state of the world in Inquisition, Hawke's look, gender and class, if the warden survived or not, his/her race, look and class, if you choose to let him/her survive etc... And you me heard right, many characters of previous DAs make at least a cameo, including: Alistair, Leliana, Varric and even Morrigan. Speaking of characters, i liked the companions who made a first appearance in this game, expect for Blackwall, Bioware was clearly going for variety in their personalities. Now let's talk about gameplay, the combat borrows the fast pace of DA2 and adds a super move-type ability, and combines it with the overhead camera of DA: Origins. Unfortunately the overhead cam is clunky and is overall useless. And according to what one of my friends who bought this game on PC said, the PC version has clunky controls with limited remapping options, no mod support and is very poorly optimized, so I'd say that the PC version gets a 6/10, and iv'e also heard that the game looks awful on on last-gen consoles, so I recommend getting for the PS4 or Xbox 1. Let's see, we have 12 very open areas to explore, and unlike DA 2, they have excellent variety, you have deserts, snowy wastelands, Orlais's capital Val royal, the lush forests of Ferleden, you name it, not only that but there are mini-locations that open up temporarily open up (the areas are not interconnected though),overall the game is huge. And since your the leader of the Inquisition, you get an awesome castle called Skyhold that you can upgrade and customise, not only that but there are some game of thrones-type politics (you can even sit on your throne and judge criminals, deserters, traitors among others at certain points of the game), There's a ton of side quests, and for the most part, i enjoyed them. There's the war table, from there you can send agents to deal with issues so they can bring things such as unique weapons and armour, you also can receive side quests from factions to earn their support and some valuable resources, and you can get perks that allow to access locked off sections of some areas. Dragons are back and hunting them is pretty epic (not as epic Dragon's Dogma, but it's still epic). The game also has high production qualities such amazing animations, very good lip syncing, good graphics, and excellent voice acting. I'd that the biggest negative of this game is that building up the Inquisition barely really affects the ending and that the final Boss battle is slightly disappointing. And the multiplayer is a f****** mobile game, it forces to either grind endlessly or spend money on new characters and potions, f*** you EA. And i should mention that it took about 80 hours to finish the game, including quite a few side quests. Overall though i really enjoyed this game, sure it has faults, it's not a flawless gem but i really enjoyed it.

And remember, you have the right to disagree with me.

    The 9+ side:

For starters, the classes are what you can expect from an RPG.
Rogues, mages and warriors so everyone can find a class they're comfortable in.

The looks on your character can be changed beyond belief, showing of the "next-gen-ness" of this game.
You could play around for hours, just creating a character.

The gameplay is nice and it feels natural from the first moment.
You get rolled into combat smoothly and the game builds up at the tempo it should, not too fast, but definetely not too slow either.

Some parts such as tactical-combat mode, are a bit more challenging at first but as soon as you master them, they become a joy to use.
These "more difficult" parts of the game can easily be left out if you don't feel like diving into them right away, however they can give you an advantage on the battlefield from time to time.

Some people below seem to claim that gear and tech-tree don't matter, I've noticed significant changes when modifying both. It's not all "Zomg i'm full epix I 1shot evrithing", but it's very well balanced in my opinion.

As for the quests and storyline, so far they haven't failed to surprise me. From time to time there's new little sidequests and bonus parts you unlock as you walk yourself through numerous minigames and challenges.
Once again, they're not too hard (on normal mode) but not too easy either.

The maps and environment are beautifully built up, and haven't failed to please me.

    The -1 side:
Sometimes I find it oddly difficult to find out what I'm supposed to do with some of my loot.
From the 60 slots in my bags there's 30 in use by schematics, plants, and materials.
So far there hasn't been a push in any direction when it comes to these materials for what I should do with them.

I think that because of that, people might make the mistake of selling / destroying the lot until they find out they can turn them in at a quartermaster / smith / ...

(That might be my mistake for skipping over the beginning quests where you learn how to deal with these.
But those quests aren't obligatory, so it's easy to make the same mistake I did.)

There's no real boundaries in where you should go either, but when you're a level 4 and run into level 12 elite monsters, I guess you can tell you should turn around and start running. (lol).
But then again, that's the disadvantage of playing an open-world RPG.

Also there's a few minor bugs I've run into, (Unless my rogue can teleport in and out of Rocks). But they're not really disturbing the gameplay. If you're stuck, you just switch characters and you pop out sooner or later.

    CONCLUSION:

I really, really like this game.
In my personal opinion, without any subjectivity towards Bioware or EA-games, they have done a great job creating this. It's a must-have for every gamer who likes to play a somewhat challenging fantasy game once in a while.

I've had a lot of "Wow", "Will you look at that" and "OH SH*T THAT BEAR KEEPS CHASING ME" moments while playing, and I don't doubt I'll have a lot more in the future.

The story and characters were put together very well, but the pacing is poorly executed. You can find yourself over leveling if you're a completionist like myself, causing later areas to become too easy. All together I think it was a really great game that I got around 100 hours playtime out of but I think this game gets a better rep simply because of the lack of quality titles that came out around it's release date. 8.5/10 but I lean more towards 9 than 8. Lore - It's my first DA game but I already feel wrapped up in the history and background of the characters
Graphics - The game looks stunning and game play is very smooth
Multiplayer - Not for everyone as it's quite repetitive but I enjoy playing this with my friends
Content - I'd only really played Destiny before this, so to come to a game that has so much content is fantastic. I've spent about 40 hours playing so far and don't feel like I'm near completing.

    Small negatives
Voice acting - some of the voice acting and dialogue is pretty poor
Conversation - When you actually speak to people, it's not visually as smooth as general gameplay

Dragon Age Inquisition is a return to the glory days of rpg's.

The game opens with a very deep character creation that can take up to an hour to complete; if you want it to. Once the game started i restarted a couple times so i could create the perfect character to fit into the games richly historic setting.

The game does get off to a slow start but it builds momentum over the course of its hours of gameplay. This truly is a game that you get what you put into it.

However if you are a newcomer to the series as i am, you may want to brush up on the lore of Thedas ( the realm in which this game takes place ) It is completely realized and soaking with its own politics, religions, races, and locations. Have you ever played a game that made you ache to keep playing even though you have real life responsibilities? This is that game. This is not a game for the short of attention and shallow minded; it is a game for the savor-er, to slowly unravel its complexity and breadth.

Pros: great presentation, graphics, sound scores and characters.... an overall captivating experience

Cons: time suck, it will require you to sink some time into it to fully unlock the beauty this gem contains.

definitely a buy type of game, don't waste your time renting.

I found DA-I immersive and enjoyable. I spent north of 100 hours on this game. Yes, it does venture into MMO territory with a bunch of quests that aren't really relative, but I enjoyed it all. Where I saw room for improvement was tactical use of weaponry/spells (basic button mashing usually wins the day) and in better animation for character heads. Other than that, I loved it and figure it was definitely the best value for money in many years for me.

The companions (and advisors) are my favourite team across all Bioware games, they are funny, interesting, have heart wrenching plots and whether you befriend them or have... antagonistic relationships with them... the relationships and character growth feels real and personal.
Plot wise the game is solid, and for the first time in the Dragon Age series I feel as though I don't want to move onto a new protagonist next game. The Inquisition is far reaching across Thedas, and I feel committed to my Inquisitor and my companions to follow them through to whatever comes next.
I used to say "No one plays Dragon Age for the combat"... and I was right. Until now. Combining tactical and real time combat on PS4 is a triumph, and the game is perfect to 'play it your way'. I've played through all in real time, on casual/normal settings, and I've played through on Nightmare twice, once with lots of tactical camera, and once without, but with paying lots of attention to finding and crafting gear, and creating the best builds for everyone. All these play styles have felt fun and fulfilling, and despite being a 80- 150 hour game each time, has never become boring!
Similarly there is lots of side content, which is there if you want it, either for lore and story and character purposes, or simply for experience, but you're never forced to endlessly grind minor fetch quests. The thing about this game, is that it is wonderfully designed and balanced for you to play it the way you want. If something isn't fun for you, don't bother with it anymore- turn down the combat (or turn it up!), stop questing in the hinterlands (or do more!), whatever you want!
The multiplayer part of the game, while not quite as fun and fast paced as ME3MP, was still surprisingly fun, especially with friends, and well supported. I play it frequently, at weekends to do the challenges, and when I don't have much time but my fingers are itching for some dragon age!
Also you can smooch and cuddle with some real cuties, or get down to sexy business with them, in the best romance content bioware has ever produced. And we all know Bioware games are just overly complicated dating sims :P

The second thing that needs to be said is that Bioware did not get everything perfect here, but overall it is still a fantastic game and a very positive move in the right direction by a company that seemed to have been on a downwards spiral in recent years. So just in case you hadn't guessed it already; Inquisition is miles better than Dragon Age 2. Miles better.

The graphics and landscapes here are beautiful, the maps are enormous, the world is engaging. It's the type of RPG you just don't want to put down. Gameplay feels fluid though perhaps a tad too simplistic - I much preferred the more varied amount of spells and abilities in DA: Origins. The story and writing is of the same quality you'd expect from Bioware - decent enough to keep you interested but never amazing.

I was however disappointed with the cast of companion characters in Inquisition. They just felt...bland and uninspired. Certainly a stark contrast to the quality of characterization in the first of the series where I felt a level of attachment to my group and was motivated to max out their loyalty and any companion quests.

Despite having a number of (small) flaws I found Dragon Age: Inquisition to be an extremely compelling RPG and a positive addition to the series that suitably offsets the disappointment of Dragon Age 2. The biggest appeal and achievement here is the world they have created - the maps are VAST and full of beauty and detail. You WANT to explore and you are rewarded for doing so. Very few titles have such appeal. This is a must-buy for anyone who enjoys the RPG genre.

Also - this is a very personal view of a game as it takes into account what I love about role play games - and this really hits my taste.
The Highlights of this game are in my opinion:
+++ The storytelling. I can't put enough plusses on that one. The cutscenes are just great, until now I wasn't even aware that computer games could express such a variety of expressions and emotions. Also the way the cameras are set during the cutscenes - like watching a movie, not at all like the static-expression-and-emotionless-statues you meet in Skyrim. The characters in DAI have a depth I have never encountered before. They are authentic, they have a personality and the game really makes you care about them, wanting to know more of their past, of their opinions and such. I have finished several playthroughs and each time there were new things to discover, new angles and perspectives from which the story could be seen. A character I loathed on my first playthrough really grew on me the second time as I overcame my opinion of her and actually started to learn more about her. This is just a great story, that draws you in, that captivates you and that actually has a lot of references to our modern day society. The game confronts you with religion in numerous ways, and no matter what your opinion is on that, the characters you meet will make you start to think. The parallels to the catholic church are there, and they are displayed in a well differentiated fashion. I am not a religious person, yet some talks with Mother Giselle, Cassandra or Leliana really made me question my so far rather negative view of the church. And this is just an example of how this story creates parallels to real issues without judging, but showing many perspectives on the topic and leaving it up to the player to make up his opinion. There simply is a depth and subtext to this game that goes beyond what one might expect from a video game. That's why I like this game so much. Not sooo much for the gameplay, but for the way it is an interactive story telling medium between a good novel and a good movie.
++ The setting: I just love the way you build up your inquisition and get the feel of ruling a powerful organization
+++ have ot mention them again: your party members - just a bunch of great non-cliche party members. From the eloquent front warrior to the witty and overconfident and gay wizard to the mysterious elf - they are all well written characters.

As I said - this is my personal view, others value a well balanced gameplay above a good story and will therefore give a different score. Speaking of the gameplay, lets get to some negative points:

    - the gameplay: Dragon Age Origins (not Inquisition) started out as a somewhat modern adaption of the famous baldurs gate that was known for its tactical depth. Dragon Age Inquisition has left that noble path behind and leaves me missing the tactical depth as it has more of an mediocre action oriented gameplay.
    - the inventory: is a mess." I wanna switch my armor. now I have to run to the smith, dismantle the shoes and gauntlets from my armor and put them to the new one, so I can wear it." - In other game switching equipment is just the matter of pressing a button in DAI you have fiddle through a hundred menus to get it done. Dealing with my inventory is no fun at all.
    - Elves look like starved, sick people you usually only see on their deathbeds, only bones and skin. I know this a harsh critic , but whenever I tried to start out as an elf and saw my inquisitor wearing robes or the (horrible) stronghold pyjama I got that image of a starved out sick person in my mind and couldn't play any more. Maybe its just me, and I know elves have to be somewhat slim, but I couldn't stand to look at an elven male inquisitor... sorry.
    - the big areas - yes they are seen as a big asset to the game, but really they aren't necessary for that great story they are telling, they are rather hindering. This would have been a great game, even with smaller areas.
    - side quests are pathetic - while the main story and the character quests are great, the side quests are useless. "I am the mighty inquisitor, but unless I go out and collect 150 daisy flowers, three pickles and two dozen pebbles the inquisition will fall to ruin because among my entire army there is no one who could do that except me...." less, but more meaningfull sidequests would have been the wiser choice.
    - the assortment of enemies is very small. There could have been more types of demons and stuff

I know I stated a lot of negative points, but none of those can dampen my enthusiasm when I think of the great story this game can tell. No game is perfect, neither is this one, but for someone who loves a well written and well displayed story this is the game you wanna get

    1) Lore and script. With high production values, full voice acting and brilliant animation, this is still a game where you can clock in a good amount of hours reading the entire Codex. The lore is very detailed and imaginative because it spins things around a bit regarding the traditional roles in fantasy. For newcomers it's easy to get into the story and memorize who's who given the parallels with real world institutions (god and church, nations, power groups, etc).
Also the decisions you're asked to make as the Inquisitor influence the story in meaningful ways. Combine that with the fact you can choose from 12 different companions, and you have more than enough content to grant a second and maybe third play-through. Bioware at its best.

    2) Combat. You can approach combat in much the same way you'd do in one of those old school RPGs: pause and micro-manage your team. But this is 2014, so you can also program your team's AI with confidence and control just a single character, or switch between them, in real time. The higher the difficulty level, the more management it requires to be successful. It is possible to vanquish foes of a higher level than your own with careful planing, positioning and use of inter-class ability combos. While paused you can move the camera freely around the scene, most of the times just admiring the poses of your characters and the flashy details of spells. Pure porn. Overall combat feels very satisfying. I just wish there was an accessible text log to review the encounters.

    3) Loot. Inquisition is actually a drug dealer in disguise. It knows loot is an addiction. It's the shady bloke in overcoat calling you from the street corner. "Hey friend, wanna try some loot?" Of course you do.
And not only equipment loot. Picking those flowers and rocks will help you craft powerful stuff and improve your gear in meaningful ways. There's a very strong MMO scent in the air here. And you'll love that scent, you'll snort that **** and revel in it. At times I found that even mission structure reminded me of traditional MMO quests. Go find this guy, now pick 5 of those items, then bait the dragon... here, have some loot!

I spent over a hundred and twenty hours with the third edition of Dragon Age. Not once during that time did I get bored or tired. I'm an old guy, so very few games can actually grab me by the balls while respecting the time I invest in them. Definitely my GOTY for 2014.

Dragon Age has the most complex stories and lore. The best part, it links all up since Dragon Age: Origins, every character has their roles and they turned out differently in each choices and consequences. Dragon Age Keep is a brilliant concept! Replayability is quite high as well because different heroes chosen based on race will have different beginnings and back story. The politics are real & I especially enjoy the dialogues even though it is long. Choices are consequential and most times are not shallow clear-cut moral choices.

The ending was great and redeemed the problems I have with the mmo like structure of this single player game. I think when you look at it realistically ;), what Bioware did was add in a bunch of huge locales with lots to do, but not much depth. They put this open world gargantuan on top of a narrative structure that is very similar to DA:2, the war table is the frame. This is fan service at its best, really. DA:2 was all narrative, with little exploration. DA:I is the same 30-40 hour narrative put within a huge world. However, a world with not much actual meaning or exposition in terms of player experience. The player is forced into exploring in order to essentially 'level up' the story. This gets boring at best, after around 20 hours, and then it gets annoying, and then it gets frustrating, and then it seems unbearable. So if you are a story nut, like me, do as little exploring as possible, trust me. I went almost everywhere and there is nothing that really shines in terms of sidequests or discovered quests. They all just seem empty, although some contain good lore, which is a plus if you are into reading a lot of lore on the screen. An overall decent game which is redeemed through its story. Expand

Gigantic amount of stuff to do, completionists will be wandering the hinterlands alone for a good 20 hours.
Interesting party members and world, tons of lore and chitchat for people who enjoy such things.
MULTIPLAYER! DA:I has multiplayer, similar to bioware's Mass Effect 3 multiplayer right down to the buying chests and the lobby system. But where ME3's multi was straight up horde mode, DA:I's multi is a dungeon crawl through semi-randomized dungeon segments that ends with a horde fight and boss.

So what is wrong with the game that it gets an 8 instead of a 10?
    - Well, there are no DRAGONS in multiplayer, yeah, a game called DRAGON AGE and you can't fight any dragon bosses in multiplayer.
    - Demon boss in multiplayer is ridiculously overpowered and can wipe a party in one hit that is almost un-dodgeable.
    - Multiplayer characters can only have FOUR spells equipped, compared to the EIGHT spells single player characters can access at once.
    - Screen tearing. It happens kind of frequently.
    - Horses are dumb and garbage, not nearly fast enough.
    - Some areas are stupidly huge and devoid of anything interesting in ~85% of the map (hissing wastes especially)
    - Partymember AI is dirt stupid and acts like it willfully disobeys your commands.
    - Iron bull, while a funny guy, dies so easily in combat it is ridiculous.
    - Crafting is limited by schematics you randomly find, and horned dudes cannot wear any hats, only ugly makeup which, as far as I know, cannot be crafted.
    - Weird bugs, like being launched into space after running up a rock and activating command mode, only to blast off when you deactivate it.

Really though, at release this is one of the best games out for the PS4, in a hailstorm of re-release cash grabs. If you are looking for a western RPG to play, you don't have much reason to skip this.

They don't MAKE the game. ALL creative choices are left to the developer. If you didn't like this game, it isn't because EA attached their social media site and name to it, its because you DIDN'T LIKE THE GAME. Shocker. The game-play is a good hybrid of DA2 and DAO, leaning more towards DAO (don't let the reviews fool you, it isn't DA2 2.0 as some have put it). My guess is many of these people leaving negative reviews didn't bother to play to end-game. That's like watching a movie halfway and proclaiming its the "worst movie EVER". A little dramatic I think, but to each their own. I didn't find the writing to be that bad, story was lacking but characterization was strong, and that's why you play a Bioware game really, to build a character and see what your choices effect. No DA game ever had complex combat mechanics, so I don't get that argument. Really its a solid RPG at a time when little to no RPG's were being released. Something is much better than nothing. If you want to wait for the next regurgitation of the FF series, have at it, but this title was solid. Don't expect anything ground-breaking, but there are TONS of references to the previous two titles, making it a fun excursion for fans of the series. 8/10, hater's gonna hate, decide for yourselves and stop bashing EA for wanting to make money...all developers/publishers do that, its why they can keep making games. Dragon age inquisition has you playing as a mage, a rogue, or warrior, you create a group of 4, with the ability to switch between any of them in a battle, and set out to take down the villain. It's what it sounds like you cast spells as a mage, hack and slash as a warrior, and shoot arrows or stealth beat em up as an rogue. The combat itself is actually pretty simple, satisfying and addictive, with new abilities to unlock as you level up. However I felt the combat felt a little to "spammy" the majority of the time. The story was really straightforward, (bad guy wants to take over world, stop him). At least each story mission had an different theme. I also read the loot was random, but to be honest it was a hit or miss, or to put it more bluntly a big meh for me. Open world is huge, with tons of side content that I can see people putting 100+ hours to complete it. However, the majority of the side quests are kitchen sink fillers, and the majority of them felt unrewarding. As you can see, every pro in this games also has a con, and vice versa. To end, I felt this game is in the same league as fallout 4 in terms of rpg's this gen that I've played, but it's nowhere near the elite level rpgs like the witcher or horizon zero dawn in my opinion. Graphics: 8 - beautiful world but in the distance animals and other characters seem to jag.
Story: 8 - Pretty epic moments occur throughout my time playing, nothing too special, ending was quite disappointing to be honest.
Gameplay: 7 - Lacked all the customisation options of Origins, fluent animations but the tactical view and tactical options feels so bare, again very disappointing. Those who favour fast action rpgs will definitely have a blast.
Characters: 7 - No where as great as the Origins cast, romance options also felt limited, banter was decent and I guess they were okay, memorable but was not emotionally attached as I was with e.g. Morrigan, Alistair etc etc.

The only thing setting it apart is the 4 party combat, and even that has really simplified. It's still a fun game, but it has lost some of the magic Origins started it off with. Certainly better than 2, though. Expand

Great game. Yes, it is not an old school RPG and the principles of the game have nothing to do with the first Dragon Age or even Baldur's Gate, however it's still a great game. The graphics are great, the story is entertaining and the RPG system is interesting, but simple. I recommend this game to both old school gamers and newcomers

Can't wait for DA4! Or should Bioware just start a new Age? Say...Elven Age? Or Demon Age?
Absolute value for your money. I bought this for $6.99 on a sale. Wouldn't have regretted it even at full price.
Really got attached to the main character and main party members. Classic Bioware at work, brilliant!

    Cons:
Too many unused squad mates. Would've preferred less party options but well-written and fleshed out characters. I only used Solas, Cassandra, Blackwall, Dorian mainly. Kept hearing about Iron Bull but man he sucks, died too easily.

    Boring and repetitive fetch quests

Side quests aren't as engaging. General quest design and story/plot mechanics could be improved.

Too many uninteresting codex entries, which spoil the pace of the game.

Dated character models, time to upgrade your engine Bioware.

Boring combat. Either go all action or full RPG, this feels like an over the shoulder Diablo, which some might like to be fair.

    Overpowered too easily.

Main character's voice acting can be cheesy at times. Too stiff and serious.

Better than Dragon Age 2 in many ways, and overall it doesn't really beat Origins. The game is unfocused since the majority of your game time will be spent on quests and side-activities that are frankly too inspired by WoW's design philosophy of purposefully making objectives more dragged-out than they need to be to make the game fun. For an MMO this probably worked because you could chat or do things together. In a single-player RPG though it drags it down with the only redeeming factors really being the party banter and the fact that mostly every side-activity is made relevant to the main objective of the game: build up the forces of your inquisition to be ready for whatever stands in your way, and end the threat that dooms the world once and for all.

Sounds pretty negative so far, but that's because I wanted to get that stuff out of the way as soon as possible. Because the only other real drawback there is left is that while the main missions are great, they are just a tad too few and mostly all of them are too short for how self-contained they are, acting as subplots that are resolved before we really get time to sink in the idea. But trust me when I say, unless you're on PC you're likely to think back at this game when it's over thinking "I want more of that!" than feeing that it was a completely missed opportunity.

The core gameplay is well-made and easily made the 78 hours it took me to beat it the first time worthwhile. There's fun in finding the right party-build that works in combination, trying out different ideas: 2 tanks, an archer and a mage, or a group of Warrior Tank and 3 OP mages throwing fireballs, and freezing the enemies to shatter them, or play as a mage and go Knight Enchanter, soloing 1 of the 10 Dragons to be found.

No matter what Dragon Age you've played before you're gonna be surprised when you realize how massive the world of Inquisition is in sheer size. Arguably this is probably also one of the game's main weaknesses since too few story-missions take place within these environments and are instead placed in self-contained levels but in its own right that probably works better. The problem is just that the game-design is in identity crisis. You have 1 game that plays like a completely open-ended RPG like Skyrim and with WoW quests that's fun in its own right, but then you have the second game, the main campagin and talking to companions at your base that feels completely cinematic, story-driven and revolves around very railroaded level-designs, which is completely fun and satisfying, but one can't help but be disappointed that these two concepts don't gel at all, especially when the best part - the "2nd" game - is a much more interesting game than the first one and the first one takes up the vast majority of your game time.

As for the Bioware-fans I'm pleased to tell you without spoiling stuff that while the main story is hit-or-miss and occasionally so epic that I thought I was gonna faint from all the shivers, the companions, their subtle moments, the party banter, the romances, personal quests, all of these are good enough that you'll walk away wishing there'd been even more of it becuase it IS a great cast, and it has so much potential to be fleshed out even more in DLC. I probably never felt as attached to the cast as I was here, except for maybe Mass Effect 3, but bear in mind that this cast has only been in this one game as opposed to 3 full games like in the ME trilogy.

Chances are that within a year when all DLC is out this game will be one of my favorite PS4 games ever.

    8/10

    Pros:
    + Great cast of companions
+ The parts of the main story that work are bone-chilling
+ Cassandra is an excellent character
+ Sense of discovery is a milestone for Bioware
    + Music is very epic
+ Graphics and especially the new face-models look spectacular

    Cons:
    - Overall game-design is too unfocused
    - too much cheap time-sink
    - The latter half of the main story has many issues
    - Too many bugs (occasionally game-breaking) at launch
    - It borders on superficiality. Companions and main story, while good simply don't have enough screen-time. It feels like stuff is missing.

Game from Bioware. You can smell it from far away. Black and white with no gray in between story about another epic hero.
After disappointment with ME 3 and DA 2 I decide NOT to buy this game until I see some reviews, gameplay and opinions. And after that I bought it. And I spend more than 40 hours in it. And I can say - Bioware learned from their past mistakes... most of the time.

Graphic. Nothing fancy but very, very nice. With style. I especially like maps with rain at night. Nothing to complain but not breathtaking. And it's not strange since modern consoles (including PS4) are weak compared to PC.

Gameplay - combination of DAO and DA II. Action oriented but stupid silly final fantasy animations are GONE. Tactical camera is back and if used properly, Your fight will be much easier than playing action oriented style. Crafting is just plain brilliant. Many items to craft that will change color and overall look based on materials You use. I love it. I'm not even at half of the game and I have over 80 materials I can use for crafting.
They add stuff from Ubisoft games but with style. Find telescopes and solve nice riddles (Traveling merchant problem) to open treasure caves. Close rifts to gain influence. Find shards on map to open magic doors in one location. There are few things to do and there is reward for each and one of them.
Plenty of things to do on many large maps.

Game have few bugs and glitches but nothing major. Didn't prevent me from playing or anything.

Also there is less quests that mark exact things on the map. You need to find stuff Yourself using Witcher medalion. Yeah, thing from Witcher 2 is here under L3 but with lesser graphic effect :-) Funny but welcomed.

Story is nice but straightforward. Still have many great moments.

Also - best dragon fights EVER.

    Overall, strong 8.

Story - The story is basic. you had the luck of surviving an onslaught that no one at that time even knows the cause of. You are captured and questioned, as you are the only survivor of a fade rift opening. about 15 minutes into the game, you find out that you have the ability to close fade rifts, tears in the air that allow demons to invade our world. Using this new found power, you gather a force in a effort to close the fade rift, dealing with political, religious, and military problems along the way.

Character - the character is a Created person. You have the choice of human, elf, dwarf, and qunari (dragon/demon looking guys) each have their own special abilities and limitations. Almost everything is free reign in terms of creation, though funny colors for skin and the customization array of weaponry and armor are not in the game, but we will touch on that in gameplay.

Universe - The world this game creates is the best part This world feels complete, with caves, dungeons, ruins, towns, and landscape to explore. All while telling their own piece of the lore. There is a deeper are wide array of side stories through letters, books, and discoveries throughout the world that would appeal to the explorer gamer, the one who likes to pick apart the world their are playing in and see how everything runs, and every story that the game can tell. The best part is these specific side lore are completely optional, so those who wish to stay focused on the task at hand will not feel they are missing out on anything detrimental to the plot.

Cast - The characters that join your Inquisition are the heart and sole of the game. The chemistry between the different squad you run with makes every trip a fun time, as conversations between the characters occurs. This also makes you run with different people, mixing and matching to find both the squad that is best suited to take down a dragon, and the squad whose conversations are so entertaining you would run them during fetch missions.

Romance - this is a fairly weak part of the game. To put bluntly, for the guys out there, the most attractive female in the game (Liliana) cannot be romanced. The romance feels like a tack on simply for being a bioware game. While it feels more realistic in terms of defining who is homosexual, heterosexual, and bisexual, the lack of choices leaves most gamers picking the same one, which of course takes away from the game in a way. Mass Effect have a subclass of people based on their romance options, you had the guys who took tali, you had the guys who took miranda, you had the guys who took ashley, and so on. This is not the case in Inquisition, as in the case with male characters, most people pick Josephine, with the only other choice being Cassandra or taking the homosexual path.

Gameplay: This is both the strength and weakness of the game. The dual usage of the third person rush in guns blazing is available, as is a more strategic overview with order giving for the strategic people. Using both comes in handy, and adds that little extra froth to the combat, though that's really it. Most of combat revolves around (depending on your class) charging, aiming, or flanking, then holding the right trigger while occasionally pressing Square or Circle for power hits. Running around can get tiring, especially when you have to backtrack to an area you already cleared in order to get a couple elmroots for another fetch mission. If it wasn't for the occasional character interaction, this would be a lot worse than it is. Along with this comes the Bioware conversation piece, which features optional dialogue that is diverse in delivery. Unlike Mass Effect, which only featured Paragon or Renegade, Inquisition takes this a little deeper by not assigning good or bad to any of them. You can play the game truer to who you are, whether it be a mindless idiot who needs everything spelled out for them, or a violent fanatic who draws his blade at the slightest flinch. you can even be a flirt by running a romantic dialogue with any and everyone. This in term affects the people around you's opinion of you. While this holds no real significance in gameplay, the story will be slightly different in terms of interaction. Also if you piss someone off too much they will leave your party and you will never get them back for the rest of the game.

Overall the game is good and definitely a pickup if you do not have anything to play right now.

    - Great mix of characters, some interesting romance options, but great friends too.
    - The story gets quite complicated, but there are some very satisfying scenes which tie up many of the threads.
    - Combat is a slight down side. It's intended to be a bit strategic, but comes across as button mashing much of the time (but then I think I prefer guns).
    - Biggest weakness is the user interface. This is way too complicated for a console controller, and can become frustrating.
    - Questing turns up piles of loot, but unfortunately your inventory is tiny so you'll spend loads of time destroying or selling items just to make room. This is a major downer.
    - Lots of replay value with alternate characters, sexes, and romances.
    - The game makes you care about pixels! A major achievement.

The main story is.. passable, i preferred the companion quests.
The (tavern) music is lovely and i very much enjoyed the banter your compaions would have during exploration.
I found the dragon battles to be a lot of fun.

Negatives: Just like DA2 i felt the main story lacked hard decisions or decisions which really effected the story long term.
You are given way to many side missions at the start of the game, and as im someone who has to complete all side missions before i move on, i was pretty much always 5 lvls above what you were suppose to be at throughout the game. Meaning i found all battles extremely easy and unrewarding.
The boss was the easiest battle in the game. (for me)
The war table missions seemed a lot more exciting that any of the side quests, its a shame all that is done off screen.

Overall I enjoyed it as i'm a fan of these kind of games and have always been a huge dragon age fan, but for people new to the series i can see them finding it slow and hard to get into.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bioware rightfully made the best fantasy game only beat by Skyrim. The real draw of this game is Character customization, choices, and discovery. I always love creating a female character and this game doesn't disappoint in that respect unlike Fallout 4 for example. Inquisition still has the best dialogue system and the most decisions out of modern games. So the only competition in that respect is between well, previous Bioware titles and Telltale Games. However, most choices don't have a big enough impact. No matter who you choose, Templars or Mages, you'll still have to defend Haven from the forgettable villain. I understand that part is critical to the story but Bioware has given much more weight to choices in the Mass Effect series
. But Skyhold really is a big improvement over the Normandy. The world is plenty big and the highlights visually are the houses in the Emerald Graves, the Eleven temple in the end, and the sand dunes of the Western Approach(beat Elder Scrolls to the punch). Due to the leveling and weapon damage system, enemies had to have large health bars to make the former mechanics work. There is no point in getting a better weapon if the Red Templars succumb to one or two hits. This makes encounters long and less fun. Dragons take so long to kill.
Only at the end does the story get intriguing. This is mostly thanks to Morigan(who I kept thinking was the villain due to the reveal trailer) and the Elvin lore.Since that I was eager to make progress in the game, I skipped most of the cutscenes, dialogue, and books;something I usually don't do.It ended up cutting my playthrough in half(about 50 hours instead of the average 100+)
In a world where Gods and magic exist, religion stills gets thing wrong. Something I only realized towards the end. Not that they were morally wrong(the chantry is clearly the old christian church and a lot of it draws inspiration from the real world) but that it's not certain who these gods were as Mythal turns out not to be an Elvin god but Morigan's Immortal human mother. And there isn't proof of the maker or the Old Gods existence. The only interesting part of Coryriphius (spelled wrong) was when he mentions that the thrones in the heavens were empty. That mystery definitely will be explained in future games.
The end seems to point towards a Grey Warden civil war being a plot point for DAV. It really sucks that EA most likely took the real ending and released it as the Trespasser DLC only for current-gen. That will probably stop me from playing it as I played it on the 360 and will likely get a PS4.
So the near future for Bioware is Andromeda. Something that is taking far too long to make. Is it going through development hell? Almost. Bioware is trying to make a far more ambitious game than Mass Effect 3. But here's the problem. This is in terms of content, not substance. Clearly the scale of this game is whats being built upon. And in my opinion thats a bad thing. Inquisition would have been significantly better in terms of story, pacing, and level design if Bioware didn't try to compete with the sheer size of Skyrim. Either way, I'm almost certain that Andromeda will be a great game:)

The main problem I have with this game is the combat itself and the character progression, two very important elements of an action-RPG.

Combat: it really feels as though there is no real skill involved, you just spam buttons and the same moves repeatedly. I never felt the need to use the tactical view as it wasn't really necessary. At first the combat was fine, but eventually after many hours it did start to feel repetetive, and even when changing classes i found that it wasn't very exciting or interesting.

Character progression: You have quite limited options to change your characters abilities or specialisations. The loot system is entirely underwhelming with such a lack of interesting armor/weapons. An RPG is all about customising your team, but in DA:I you have limited options in doing so and that was disappointing. All characters and classes felt very much alike, and it doesn't seem to matter which character you use, as long as you have a 'tank', a 'healer' and two 'DPS' in your team.

Overall, I like the game but eventually I did get bored and haven't finished the story. It didn't hook me in like DA:O or many others, but it is a solid game.

Technically the game is top notch with great graphics that offers impressive light effects and detailed environments, there's also very few glitches which is impressive for a world this big. In the other hand the loading times are a bit long for my taste, specially when you need to go back to your HQ so much.

Concerning the gameplay it's clearly closer to Origins, you can pause time anytime and give your instructions, you don't have the ability to parry or dodge (some classes may unlock those but they come with a cooldown like any other class abilities.). It works well and it's easy to learn, but in the end the fights all look alike (except for the bosses) which is a bit boring after 50 hours and hundreds of fights. The RPG mechanics are very well done and you'll encounter everything you expect in a fantasy RPG (alchemy, forge, runes) you even get to do a bit of management as head of the inquisition and of course Bioware trademark you have to deal with your relationships with the rest of your gang.

About that let's talk about the writing in general the main quest is rather satisfactory and fits very well with the previous games (specially if you enter your choices in the website), it wasn't intense but well written, the same goes for the personal quest of your companions and I think it's important to give so much personality for the PNJ it gives life to the world. But I was very disappointed by the (numerous) side quest you'll encounter in each zone, they're way too simple (in the writing department I mean) and there's clearly no incentive to do them apart for the rewards, like a job in real life, it's not what I want in a videogame. Concerning the length of the game if you want to complete it at 100% you can expect around 80 hours of gameplay which is very good for the genre.

So in conclusion Dragon Age Inquisition is a solid RPG fairly enjoyable and quite generous in its content but the monotonous fighting and poor writing of the side quests is disappointing and can keep you from enjoying every minute of the game. Advisable for all RPG lovers that have already completed The Witcher 3 (if not it should be your priority).

Get ready for a lot of action, great graphics, a good and interactive story, exploration, a very bad tactic view and a lot of repetition, "go there" "kill some monsters" "close those rifts" "collect some stuff" and all.

With it's ups and downs, Dragon Age is a great game, there is a lot to do, discover and read. But you will eventually find a glitch here and there, and the tactic view is just very weird, it's works well sometimes, but it just does not work in an indoor environment. And the IA of your companions is the worst, and it's impossible to define his actions the way you do in Dragon Age Origins, it's very limited, but it's all enough for you to finish the game.

This game was really great fun. I was addicted for a few weeks until i finished it all. The main story is epic, with decisions that really seem to affect events. My only issue was the lack of meaningful side quests early on and the area based map, though that was good as the areas all looked different unlike skyrim where the whole map it really similar. So far this game is HUGE improvement over Da2 ,instead of having only one race in the last game now has gone up to 4 and instead of having a very small world like the last game this one on the other hand has a huge massive land to explore and the combat has been improved the story is also engaging so far. This is a must play for fans of rpgs and a return to glory for Bioware.

*8/10 graphics. The world looks great but the textures sometimes randomly decide to pop in and out. During cut scenes it doesn't look like its running at a solid 30fps, some stuttering here and there.
*Story 9/10. The story starts to take off about 5-6 hours in depending on if you are

*8/10 graphics. The world looks great but the textures sometimes randomly decide to pop in and out. During cut scenes it doesn't look like its running at a solid 30fps, some stuttering here and there.
*Story 9/10. The story starts to take off about 5-6 hours in depending on if you are focusing only on the story or if you went off and completed a few side quests. Choices DO matter, and the choices you made in previous games DO make a difference. The changes blend in so well that you would not really notice unless you played the game on default, then again with the choices you made in previous games.
*Audio 8/10. The sound in this game is simply amazing. However, my headset randomly cuts out and it only has that problem while playing this game.
*Combat 9/10. It's really hard to pick a class to play because each has been balanced really well as far as power. Mages seem a little on the underpowered side this go round compared to DA:O. You can now respec.
Content 10/10. There are just too many things to do. Deep crafting system. Solid side quests. Many different side quest systems. A little bit of everything. From gathering, to crafting, to hunting dragons.

Multiplayer 8/10. Very addicting dungeon crawler. Each class is unique and holds its own. The only problem is that you rely 100% on getting items with you are lucky to get 1 item drop per match. This makes you dump gold after gold into buying chests. All items dropped and from chests are random. After 20 chest's I didn't get 1 weapon for the class I was using. Weapons and armor are restricted to class. It takes way too long to acquire enough material to craft. Good weapon drops are too far between. Gear matters more than abilities and getting that gear is completely random.

Notable problems -The tactical camera needs a patch. It doesn't go high enough so i'm constantly having to reposition my group just so i can see better with the camera.

Items for quests are kept in the 'valuables' location in the inventory ( more like the junk area from previous games ). Using the option to 'Sell all Valuables' is very dangerous since you can sell quest items without knowing it.

    No item storage

Class locked items and weapons ( a big step back from origins ).

Dumbed down AI tactics - While your team mates will use abilities more intelligently, you can no longer set rules to adjust them to your playstyle.

Conclusion - If you enjoyed Origins, you will enjoy this. This game is not none stop action, this is a true role playing game. Expect down time and expect to have to read now and then.

There is vast amount of quest in very beautiful areas, however they lack quality and I feel it was a grind sometimes inc comparison to large game like sky rim. The companion quest was a dissapointment, they lack depth And could be completed in 15min. Thus overall, it was a addictive game, though the ending was a dissapointment as you will feel you decision did not affect anything ( not even a cut scene). The inventory was a mess, I spend much of my time trying to determine what to keep, and at the end of the day it didn't matter. I really liked how it linked up with da 2. I'm comparison to other dragon age game it is properly on par with da 2 due to it quantity, though I think da 2 main campaign was much more interesting. Bioware should of focus on quality over quantity particularly in questing.they may lack the expertise to do this now since much of the old bioware have left. Expand
