So many bad decisions were made to force the player to use more weapons.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Although i m really grateful for the efforts of the dev team, this game really didn’ t hit the mark. The cartoonish graphic is out of place, but they mentioned it when announced so i was prepared fo that, what i was not prepared for was the jump in the storyline/plot from the end of the previous one and the beginning of this, not to mention these seemingly divine creatures appearing out of nowhere or this Betrayer guy sitting there talking to me like he is my father; no idea who they are but Doom guy clearly does!! So much for immersion in the story!

    This new Space fortress/base/gadget storage feels very much like Wolfenstein TNC, it cuts the levels and you basically go in places that you never heard of to fix situations you didn’t know happened.

    The combat system, as a lot of people already mentioned....not really entertaining. Wasn’t it supposed to be a Power Fantasy? Feels more like a Farming Fantasy honestly, you are the weakest element in the battlefield ( they still call you Slayer tho) and the game forces you to literally run away to collect ammo/hp/armor to be able to survive and slowly chip away health from the 2-3 actual enemies present. I m not saying Doom 2016 was perfect but combat was satisfying, waves and waves of enemies but you still felt competitive, you could pierce their ranks while still need to find health and reposition yourself. I m not complaining about being too difficult, i enjoy Ultra- violence but the base concept of the combat is not fitting in my opinion.

    I understand that after the huge success the team felt they could do anything and i read a lot of people screaming at the miracle this game is, it s clearly not a miracle but the passion was there and is enough for a 4 just to balance out. P.S. i will not talking about the platforming parts so I save the time i wasted on it.

If I wanted to play jumping games, I wouldn't choose Doom lol. The music doesen't fit at all compared to Doom 2016, basically only the menu song is to be remembered. Most of the game I was just hoping to get to the end and play something else. I stopped playing the game like 10 times before I finished it. Usually I am the type of guy who finishes a good game in two days without many breaks...

    So there are many issues with Doom Eternal on Playstation. Doom 2016 was an amazing experience, I had lots of fun on the hardest difficulty, everything was working. Doom Eternal does not have it. No offense towards the devs, I am pretty sure the game feels very different when played with mouse and keyboard. Or at least with the back buttons adjustment. I'll get back to the game one day and correct my rating if I choose my mind.

    This game is too over rated ... somtimes it feels like Mario Bros , somtimes like Zelda ... the fights require no aiming skills it just require the understanding of a weapon change mechanism ... i would have gave it a zero but because the graphics are good it give it 1 ... its the biggest disappointement i had on PS4

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bought it on sale and I'm still not convinced it was worth it even at half off. I'll start by saying that I absolutely loved Doom 2016, love love loved it! I loved it so much that I bought it again for the switch when I got one (sure it's not as good looking on switch but I wasnt expecting it to be.) That is why I'm so sad that this game doesnt live up to it. Within the first couple minutes of playing I felt like everything was off and I wasnt going to like it. The more I played within the first few minutes I could feel the look of disapointment growing on my face. The music doesnt grip me like the last game, and in the beginning I felt like it didnt match up with the action at all. The constant running around looking for ammo is repetitive and annoying. Like I get the argument of how it can make the game more challenging, but to me it just took me out of the action and made me have to run from fights- which is not what Doom Guy is about. Which leads me to the story. What the **** am I playing? Seriously I feel like I missed an entire game worth of story. I'm sure the lore parts clear up a lot but I payed for a game, not a book. I have almost no idea on what's going on and it is really taking me out of the game experience. I know having exposition dumps in the beginning dont make for good story telling, but if any game needed it, it would be Doom Eternal. I've only played as far as the gore nest mission but from my understanding of the story there are 3 guys you got to kill to stop the demons from completely destroying earth. Okay fine. In the beginning you kill one right away- total Doom guy move. Then you show up to where the other two are and just listen to them talk. Doom guy is right there and he could have just killed them and ended things right there. Why the **** didn't he? Then after you kill the second one, the big final boss like hacks your ship to tell you that they are hiding the last guy. Why would they do that? Also, if they hacked Doom Guys ship, why not just **** with all the systems onboard and crash his ship or something? It doesnt make sense to me and at this point I have checked out story wise. The addition of platforming puzzles was interesting for about 5 minutes and then got me annoyed. I dont feel like that really keeps with the tone of the game. It's cool to grab poles and swing while in combat but everything else is lame to me. I want to keep going because I paid for it and I hope that there can be something I can enjoy. But in terms of the changes to guns and ammo and combat Idk. Theres soo much added in up front that I forget a lot of the time and switching between weapons and grenades is little clunky on a ps4 controller. I'm gonna try to finish it, but I'm not expecting much else from this game. The only positive I see in this game is that it looks awesome. Expand

    2 out of 10: They amped up the difficulty to unreasonable levels, turning this into an unfunny slaughter-fest. You can't survive attacks because you're in the middle of an unblockable crossfire every time combat starts, and they've hosed the player by not providing nearly enough health, armor, and ammo considering how many monsters they pour at you through a firehose. Doom Eternal has some of the elements that make the Doom series great, (including fantastic intro music though it never quite lives up to the heady days of Doom 2 and Quake). There is a lot of horrible platforming that is definitely not fun. You collect tokens to unlock collectibles in your bag but there are more keys than doors, which is odd and makes a lit of the secrets feel pointless. Some enemies are poorly designed (marauder) and force awkward playtime. I was glad to complete the game and put it down for good. The last couple of bosses are horrendous. One literally changes all the game mechanics you rely on and has the classic 'invulnerable' phase. Just poor game design that has no place in 2020 Expand

    Everything DOOM 2016 achived was thrown away into the garbage; the world building, characters, story and somehow even gameplay.

    The gameplay in 2016 was one of the best in any FPS, it felt fluid and amazing. DOOM Eternal has, what it feels like, a fixed and static gameplay system that you can't control. Example: You are forced to use certain weapons on enemies too kill them; which ruins the famous term "Shoot at it until it dies"

    It's no longer "shoot at it until it dies" as you get punished for it. Biggest example (of many) are boss fights. Every boss (except the final one) is no longer dynamic like in 2016. Every boss has a fixed pattern and you have to do certain things before you can attack the boss for a *limited time*.

    DOOM Hunter - Destroy the shield.
    Marauder - Wait for the eyes to flash green.
    Gladiator - wait for the magic shield to go down.
    Khan Maykr - Forced to use the meat hook and fist before you can attack her for a limited time.

    The world building is by far a big let down of any game I've played. In 2016 you slowly move through Mars getting closer and closer to your destination as seen from the world, Example:
    On the first level you could see the argent tower from the very beginning and after each level you the tower gets closer and closer, and when you're finally there you get to climb up the whole tower.
    DOOM Eternal has none of that simply because you don't get to stay in one place at all.

    The absolute biggest issue with this games world building and immersion is teleportation.
    First you're on Earth, then in a different dimension, then in hell then back to earth and now you're somehow in heaven. This completly ruined the DOOM universe to me.
    2016 had Mars and Hell. Eternal has countless dimensions that have no place in DOOM whatsoever.

    And now the biggest let down for me and the biggest middle finger to 2016 is the destruction of Mars. Everything the DOOM 2016 has built up with the UAC, gone, in mere seconds, simply because of a cutscene that tried to blind the player with "WOW, a cOoL bIg lAsSer" while destroying the home place of the DOOM franchise for god knows whatever reason.
    But seeing how Eternal has chosen Fantasy over Sci-fi, I wouldn't be suprised if Mars was magically brought back.

    But what makes me hate Eternal the most, is the aracady direction ID went with this game.

    HUD/UI:
    The HUD looks like something you would see in a mobile game. I have no doubt that this HUD was inspired by Apex legends. EXACT same geomeotry and use of bright colors. The thing with Apex is that the bright colors are very needed for fast navigation with the ammo managment. ETERNAL DOESN'T NEED THAT. Hugo or Marty mentioned that the bright colors purpose is to distinguish the ammo, which makes absolutly zero sense as it was never needed at all.

    Floating props:
    This is something that completely annihilated the immersion this game had to offer.Floating Weapons. Floating book pages. 2 Meter long question marks. (+Fcking confetti when you walk through it).
    I feel sorry and bad for the people who made the concept arts and desing for the levels.
    Imagine making something so big and eerie just so there can be a big floating question mark in the middle of nowhere.

    Oversaturation of levels:
    DOOM 2016 had three color choices for levels to stick with: Red, Dark Green and "cool" colors.
    DOOM Eternal uses the entire color spectrum for each level. No level is easy on the eyes when it comes to the colors.

    Ridiculous skins:
    This come back to where I said "a joke that doesn't take itself serious".
    If you told me 4 years ago that the next game DOOM game would have the slayer wearing a greasy t-shirt with a "extra thicc" text on it I would have called you crazy
    I want you guys to look at 4 examples I gave you and imagine 2016 with all of that. It's simply impossible.

    Last thing I wanna talk about is the story.
    DOOM 2016 had a very simplistic story. You wake up and start killing and destroying. This is all DOOM should be. 2016 also had a cliff hanger that was for nothing as Eternal doesn't start where 2016 stopped.

    Hayden isn't a smart human that died of cancer and got reincarnated as a robot. Hayden is god of all of recreation.

    VEGA isn't a super computer that was created and tested by UAC employees (That needs absolute zero cooling btw). Vega is a god in a USB stick.

    I've to stop here as I've reached the limit.
    DOOM Eternal has **** up the entire franchise. I see no future of DOOM whatsoever. The next DOOM should just be a mario styled arcade shooter. Just dimensions you jump from level to level killing demons in a arena with no story or a goal.

    Huge step back for franchise.
    I play shooter to shoot not to jump and find some ammo. Yes yes, it is very intellectual to constantly thinking about which weapon you have to use in every situation, but I prefer not to. That is why I play ARCADE shooters.

The mechanics are also ass, I have ‘missed’ a ledge or monkey bar not because I wasn’t close, because the game just didn’t work. I died about 30 times trying to activate that 3rd ring right before the Khan boss fight. Why in a game that is known for ripping and tearing do I have to constantly platform idk why. To add to that, mostly every encounter is based on platforming as well. The battle areas are small and you HAVE to use the monkey bars , jump pads, and portals to move around. I tried to just play in the ground and I just get mauled. I personally hate games that require a bunch of maneuvering like that. The main reason I fell in love with doom 2016 was because the ground gameplay was so smooth and well rounded that I was able to perfect it and move onto more harder difficulties. Back to the battle arenas, the khan mayker battle is so stupid. The arena is so small that you have to make an actual effort not to fall off. Also I mentioned earlier the mechanics were buggy, well during this fight you have to use the meat hook on the Khan and as you close in you have to blood punch her. 5/10 my punched acted Like I punched the wall and not an enemy, I was furious. I’m facing the icon of sin rn and if I’m being honest I’m not gonna finish it cause it’s the same bull crap. Small map that constantly makes you move. The game forces you too move around way to much taking away from what makes the game fun and different, rip and tearing demons apart. Just regular encounters you have to constantly be moving around using the whole environment, and it’s too much movement. Half time I’m trying to avoid being hit I walk onto a jump pad that launches me half way across the map. Very few times can you just go toe to toe with the demons and your guns without having the annoyance of platforming. I was so excited for this game but now it’s just a disappointment. If I can take the gameplay of 2016 and mix it with the demons and guns in eternal, I would cause to me that’s a perfect game. Not saying it’s a bad game but not the game I was expecting. If you Arnet a big fan of platform games, than don’t waste your money. Expand

    Stand still and you will die. You must always keep moving. That's about all this game has to offer that is "DOOM." Once far enough into the game you have enough unlocks the combat can be fun, but again the constant inventory management is so distracting from a DOOM game. Pros:

    -The combat is even more 3D than it used to be, you will be (double) jumping, dropping, teleporting and dashing everywhere.
    -Extra abilities and fun new toys.
    -Better multiplayer.
    -New lore and details on where Doomguy came from. I personally preferred the mystery and didn't need this though.

    Cons:
    -You will be jumping, dashing everywhere. The entire game is a laborious jump puzzle. The previous game had touches of it here and there but oh boy, get ready for Prince of Persia, Sands of Hell.
    -The story only makes sense if you read everything you pick up. I had no idea where I was or why half the time until... Ohhh that's why I was here. Very little voice acting prompting you with the story too.
    -The demons have a rock/paper/scissors mechanic to them, one gun kills one of them good now but, oh now you've found another one, need a different gun for him. This might work well on the PC but it ruins the high speed immersion on the PS4 bringing up the weapon wheel every time you turn a corner.
    -Your basic punching does nothing.
    -You will permanently be out of ammo at the beginning of the game.
    -On normal difficulty they Hurt! I destroyed unreal tournament when I was younger so I'm no noob when it comes to high speed games but I'm really glad I didn't put this on hard to begin with.
    -You MUST make/sign into a Bethesda.net account. I have no interest in a Bethesda account, I just came here to shoot things in the face. Why you do this. Was the price I paid for it at the store not enough?

    Despite alllll of these cons, the gunplay and level design (in combat) makes up for all of these things and I would recommend it for fans to buy. I remember finishing my first little intense challenge arena and shouting, Yes! That is what I came here for!
    It's still a great fun game but don't come here expecting more of the same as Doom 2016 because you'll be disappointed like I was. Unless you like jumping over lots of lava of course. Me, when I play Doom, it's to shoot things. Call me a simple man but when I play Assassins Creed it's to sneak around and assassinate people, when I play Mario it's to jump around and boop things. When I play Doom it's to run around and shoot demons in the face with a shotgun. That's it.
    I would rate this lower but a 6 is too low... but a 7 is just a tiny bit too high. 6.8 / 6.9
    Fyi, Doom 2016 was my game of the year that year so I love the reboot.

    Perhaps it was better on PC, I wouldn’t know.
    The initial impressions weren’t good and the game just didn’t find its feet from then on out.

    Combat involved entering an arena, and then burning through all your weapons to kill enemies and repetitively break some jaws (so many times) to get shiny objects, then move to next arena and repeat. Unpopular opinion I know, believe me. I tried very hard to like this game and I almost stopped playing it but I needed to complete it and give it that at least.

    I’d recommend playing the 2016 release again rather than purchasing this latest release. 2016 captured the horror that is Doom, Doom 2 and even Doom 3 but Eternal just felt like I was driving a tank in a game that struggled with its own identity.

    I was quite looking forward to this game as i found 2016's offering disappointing and chock-full of live service crap. I thought they would have learned from this the way EA did with Star Wars, but oh was I wrong.

    The graphics are the only nice thing I have to say about this game really. The game runs quite smoothly and the first level or so is quite visually impressive. However that's where my compliments come to an end. I only played the first three levels so bear this in mind, but I got sick of the blandness across the level, such as lava and red rock terrain everywhere. Executing enemies is a sight to behold, but after a dozen executions this just becomes a chore and a bore as you watch the same graphical manoeuvres repeatedly.

    Despite only playing a handful of levels, the story didn't make any sense to me. It felt like I was dropped in halfway through it and there was no way of getting up to speed on what was happening. Older Doom games didn't really have a story and I much prefer this over the modern iteration's attempt through having random cut-scenes and characters appear with nonsensical dialogue. I don't understand how they screwed this up so badly. All we needed was a basic story akin to Oblivion where we needed to close off a portal to stop demons coming through. Actually, I do know how they screwed this up and I will explain below.

    The gameplay is where Doom lives up to its name in all the wrong ways. The most obvious experience is that I was constantly struggling to have enough ammo and was getting killed very easily even on the lowest difficulty. This doesn't strike me as true to the ethos of Doom; this feels more like artificial and unbalanced difficulty with bad game design. In addition to this, Doom suffers from you facing hordes of enemies, which becomes wearisome fairly quickly. This makes the game feel more like a run of the mill zombie shooter rather than a Doom game.

    I need to give the platforming its own special mention. It really is dreadful. You are constantly jumping around the level and using mid-air dashes to reach higher ground. Basically if you're not shooting hordes of enemies you are jumping to the next platform to activate the next horde. It doesn't help that the platforming mechanics don't really lend themselves well to Doom and are combined with bad level design.

    Last but definitely not least, I believe what has ruined this game most of all is the live services model it has adopted. After installing the update I got a new background skin just for logging in. Then I noticed the menus had added sections such as 'events' and other adverts only found in live services games such as Fortnite. This makes more sense when you consider that the game is clearly geared towards online multiplayer and the campaign feels tacked on if anything. This makes the game more like Call of Duty or Fortnite using a Doom skin.

    Overall, Doom has lost sight of what it made it great. This is unsurprising given that Bethesda are at the helm. Doom should exist as a cult attraction much in the way Resident Evil did, and they made a much better job or recent RE remakes than these Doom offerings, which isn't saying much. This is not a Doom game. It lacks the atmosphere, level design and tension of older Doom games such as Doom 64. Do not bother with this.

Even on "Don't Hurt Me" difficulty, you will get your ass handed to you and die over and over after the first 15 minutes are done. They seem to want you to juggle several gameplay elements at once, rather than the tried-and-true "shoot the demons and don't die" that is the hallmark of Doom. They also really want you running out of ammo at every turn, and running out of gas for your chainsaw too, so that you have to take on an endlessly respawning room of demons with your fists (spoiler: you will not win.) Does that sound fun to you? It makes me want to punch a hole in the wall, frankly, and that's not why I play video games. They're supposed to relieve stress, not create it.

    Итак, начнем с плюсов:

    + Превосходная оптимизация. Никаких лагов, тормозов, фризов. Все плавно и стабильно на среднем железе, на ультрах;
    + Отличный саундтрек. Тяжелая динамичная музыка, хорошо вписывается в происходящее;
    + Разносторонняя система прокачки персонажа;
    + Испытания и секреты на уровнях;
    + Есть меч для ближнего боя, хоть и всего с тремя зарядами;
    + Сочные бои в формате один против всех. Порой сражения довольно трудные и непредсказуемые. Резня может оборваться в любой момент;

    Теперь минусы:
    - Рваный сюжет с непоследовательной подачей. Нет ярких персонажей, затягивающей линии сценария, имеются откровенные ляпы. Хоть какое-то подобие сюжета начинается когда уже большая часть кампании пройдена;
    - Навязанная механика боя, которая делится на ближний бой и супер-ближний бой. Все способности, прокачка, большинство стволов заточены под рукопашку. Это очень уныло, когда нет выбора, КАК тебе воевать. Любые отступления от задуманной механики жестко караются отсутствием боеприпасов, либо ордами демонов, которые нарочно лезут в клоз;
    - Мало боеприпасов. Да, повторяю ЕЩЁ раз... Здесь ощущаешь себя на повелителем боя, а бешеным алчущим, который только и думает, как бы кого-нибудь распилить, чтобы хватило патронов до конца схватки;
    - Дизайн уровней. Нечто среднее между Quake и Unreal Tournament 3. Да, тут сплошные арены. Локации мало связаны логически, как внутри себя, так и между собой. Они КРАСИВЫ визуально. Однако исследовать их, как в Думе2016 нет никакого желания;
    - Из-за предыдущего пункта напрочь отсутствует атмосферность и ощущение присутствия;
    - Катсцены от 3-го лица... Тут не знаешь, закрывать лицо ладонью или хихикать. Кажется, будто вернулся в стрелялки начала 2000хх. И ох уж эта ФИЗИОНОМИЯ палача! Лучше бы её не показывали;

    В целом вердикт такой. "Если бы не было Doom 2016, то...". Именно предыдущая часть задрала планку до небес Земли и ада. В нём было совершенно всё. Етернал дойти до такого же уровня увы не смог.

    Doom (2016) was excellent – a fairly back-to-basics FPS, executed superbly with surprisingly good worldbuilding and it even snuck in a good story. Then Eternal said "more is better" to everything and ruined it with awkward new game mechanics, platforming, boring level design, emphasis on using the chainsaw to collect ammo, stupid dialog from the AUC holograms, etc. It's just not fun.

    The game is a downgrade from Doom 1 in so many regards. Most egregious? When the game crashes (and it crashes a lot) it starts you back at the START OF THE LEVEL. Because nothing says "fun" like fighting all the way through a level TWICE. You know whats better? When it crashes again and you have to replay it a third time. **** that. Uninstalled immediately. In a weird way, it's more like classic Doom in this regard.

    However, so far, for every step forward, it takes a step back, but the steps back are smaller.

    For starters, it's far more colorful and saturated. The environments are extremely detailed and interesting. There are some very cool visuals.

    There are also a lot more invisible walls. In an area that looked like a destroyed shopping center, I couldn't jump behind a counter because of an invisible wall. I also fell a few times looking for secrets by trying to jump to a ledge where it looked like I could land, only to hit an invisible wall and fall.

    Falling into pits doesn't kill you instantly anymore. You just spawn back on the ground minus some health.

    The soundtrack isn't as good this time so far. It's not bad though. It's industrial metal again, but I'm finding it less interesting. It just doesn't have the same kick to it as the last game and seems more subdued.

    It's also a lot more cartoonish than Doom 2016. Enemies look less "real". They seem to have a little of that "rubbery" effect animation has sometimes.

    The environments are really nice, but also seem less grounded somehow.

    The enemies animate really well, the kills are inventive so far, and it's definitely entertaining.

    Ammo, armor, health, and powerups pickups are also a lot more cartoonish. They glow neon colors, more so than in Doom 2016. They are larger and look a bit out of place to be honest. They are easy to see though, which isn't a bad thing.

    There are also secrets, but rather than being objects placed in the world like the little Funpop Doom guys from Doom 2016, they are large question marks.

    The first keycard I found was just floating in the air in an empty room. The same goes for weapons when you find them. In Doom 2016 you found them on bodies and they were naturally placed in the environment. They seem to care less about that this time.

    There's also a 1-up powerup that kicks in when you die. It resurrects you and slows down time for a brief period. It's a large green Doom Guy helmet that says 1-up.

    Gameplay is fast, and you're dropped right into things. I have no idea what is going on aside from "Hell on Earth". It does not pick up where Doom 2016 left off, unless there's some backtracking in the story later.

    I'm thinking there may be some explanation for it, but I'm not sure if it's going to be in codex entries or be a plot point in the actual game. The story so far is dumb and convoluted. There's more than there needs to be by a lot.

    Honestly, the most irritating thing about the game is the story. Half the fun of Doom 2016 was that Doom Guy couldn't give less of a **** about anything but killing demons and wrecking anything related to Hell.

    He didn't care who caused it, he was just there to clean up the mess and break enough to ensure it didn't happen again.

    It seems like they're trying to turn it into some grand sci-fi space opera with deep lore with interdimensional politics, and that goes against what Doom really is. A story like the one they seem to be trying to tell just gets in the way.

    The game seems harder than Doom 2016.

    You have a lot less ammo, need to be more accurate, and can't just glory kill unarmed zombies anymore. They aren't just walking health and armor packs anymore. They take a lot more damage and need to be shot first.

    You need to be accurate with your shots, at least in the first area. I'm thinking the game will allow you to upgrade your ammo at some point, but you start out with only 16 shotgun shells. They seem to want you to use the chainsaw a lot more, but there are a lot of ammo pickups as well.

    I've encountered fairly large groups of enemies in the first area, a lot more than in Doom 2016's early areas, but not as many as in some of the later areas.

    You'll encounter some fairly bullet spongey enemies early on as well.

    Traversal seems to be a bigger focus this time, with bars that swing you around, and I've encountered a fair number of jump pads. Stuff seems less naturally placed though. It's still a blast to play, but may not be what people are expecting it to be. A lot of people are going to hate this game, but I've enjoyed it so far. I'm unsure if I'll come out of it thinking it is as good as Doom 2016 though. I'll definitely be finishing it at least. It's fun and new Doom. Though, again, it seems to be more of a throwback to classic Doom in some ways, and not always in ways that improve on Doom 2016.

    Doom 2016 had the same issue for me.....Even as you jump around snapping necks or cutting demon's in half it just doesn't feel like that's really what you're doing. The entire experience is just too simplified.

    Bioshock is the best example I can think of of a shooter which achieved that kind of visceral impact I was hoping a Doom reboot would deliver. When you fired a gun in Bioshock, it felt real. There was massive kickback. You could see the shrapnel bouncing off of the environment. The sound from firing a gun was shocking to the senses. The target absorbed the impact like a real person (at least more than other games).

    That is what a Doom remake should've been too. That kind of brutality is what Doom is supposed to be all about. I'm very disappointed that it has not turned out that way. I hoped they would fix this massive problem from the 2016 reboot in this version, but unfortunately they clearly didn't. It is a fatal error.

    And the platforming is just obnoxious, not fun. Nobody asked for a Doom platformer.

    >Oh, a new enemy appears! then let's put a fking ad that spoil the weakness of that enemy, so player don't need to find out playing the game, cause player are idiots...
    >Let's put beacon all the time to the place you must go, so players don't need to explore, cause player are idiots...
    >Oh, you died, I'm so sorry, take this overpowered armor the make you invincible, so you don't have to learn the boss, cause, you know, player are idiots...

    Also, there is a big problem on core gameplay in this game, they somehow manage to ruin what feels so good on Doom 2016. The pace is awful, it's like they want you to be technical, making every demon require specific weapon-mod-weakpoint combination, but also throws at you a horde of 20 demons on a close space with infinite respawn... And that doesn't combine well with the ammo mechanic of this game. Doom 2016 manage these a lot simpler, better IMO.

    Music is good, but not as good as Doom 2016.

    It has some good things tho:
    >The dash is a good addition
    >The last maps, Nekravol and Urdak looks really good.
    >The way they try to present the Slayer as a complete badass is appreciated in these days where most characters are more like pathetic or lame.

    A crappy 90s first person shooter with horribly outdated controls thought it could pass as a AAA title if they slapped some 2017 graphics on it. Wouldn’t even have been satisfied if I were paid to play this garbage. You basically have two controls and every encounter is the same, so if you have no respect for your time or money then definitely buy this game!

    Great controls and good looking game, with an awesome soundtrack. But gets tedious, with levels that are way to long and the final boss is horrible designed. Also the UI is not great, and even has huge traps like "reset mission", which if you push at the FINAL boss battle, it will take you multiple hours back.

So I was excited about it's sequel and what might be next.
    Roll on Doom Eternal, recapturing a lot of what made Doom 2016 good, expanding on it by adding some new monsters, a lot of unique boss battles, and an actual story.

    There's a lot that Doom Eternal got right, and a fair bit it didn't.
    I for one like the puzzle areas and the exploring to find all the secrets. I know a few people find the puzzles weak, but I made my peace with them, they're not particularly challenging and break up the combat. I also like a lot of the new enemies, however the Marauders are just painfull, you can only attack at one point in time, and only once or twice if you're fast enough. As a boss they'd be challenging enough, but chucked in with dozens of other enemies is just unfair. I like the grappling hook, the vertical climbing, flamethrower, the new and improved plasma rifle.
    Also this iteration of Doom has added inventory management, which to a degree is fine, but even with cycling through all weapons and being resourceful, there are a number of times I ran out of ammo entirely, and was stuck right at the end of massive combat encounters.
    Some of the boss fights are just masochistic, I'm not sure why they're so much harder than the game itself but fortunately they do give you an option to replay with "Sentinel Armor" which buffs you up a lot, but the bosses are still challenging.

    I really hope for the next Doom, they tone down the inventory management, running out of ammo so often in a Doom game seems wrong.

The levels aren't as clever as the original, the exploration is a drag and, God forbid, there's even platforming. Doom Eternal is a perfect sequel that moves faster, hits harder, and feels better than it's predecessor. Don't get me wrong, Doom 2016 was an absolutely astounding reboot that reinvented and reinvigorated the Doom franchise by setting the new benchmark for fast paced FPS games, but Doom Eternal brilliantly builds upon those established elements with panache and flair. The gameplay is beautiful crafted to throw varying types of enemies, requiring you to use your whole arsenal of weapons. The gunplay fused with the level design and wonderful soundtrack create a true shoot-em-up first person experience. 90% of the game is shooting, upgrading, stabbing, rinse and repeat, all of which flow nicely. The other 10% has to do with the annoying jump puzzles. I died a lot because I am trash and it ruined the constant craze of dumb fun I was looking for. I also found there really isnt any reason to return to the game once I finished the campaign. The multiplayer was a decent attempt but it was anything worth investing time into. You do keep your upgrades from previous playthroughs and continue to upgrade them but, the single player gameplay doesnt change so all thats remains is to hunt for collectibles and complete mini challenges. I found the campaign to be short for a franchise that is historical a single player experience. There is no need to understand prior DOOM lore, which makes DOOM Eternal an excellent entry into the franchise.

You can get to a point where you don't think, just KILL, and it feels incredibly thrilling. What keeps this game from being an absolute masterpiece is when things don't click like that, and you're instead just left frustrated and unfulfilled.

    The game's essentially about two things: exploration and combat, with combat obviously being the most important of the two. On that aspect Doom eternal does a pretty good job of things, mixing a respectable variety of enemies and giving each a specific strategy to fight. Throughout the entire game you're constantly increasing and improving your arsenal and the feeling of becoming better at destroying demons is definitely there. That being said, some weapons still feel weak and uneventful, so much so that I find myself literally never using them (I'm looking at you, rocket launcher); can't say I'm a huge fan of the flame belch either, again because it feels like such a weak and unassuming move, something I only use out of a feeling of obligation. The solidity of the demons is also understandable, but it feels a little unbalanced too. The slayer might not be the biggest guy in the world, but he should be at the very least capable of pushing aside the basic zombie enemies. Instead, it's ease for demons to basically lock you in place by surrounding you until you're completely disoriented with the flashing lights and explosions, though, in the game's defense, maybe I'm at fault for not keeping better track of my surroundings. Also, it's hilariously evil that the BFG is just assigned as a regular weapon in your rotation that you can pull by accident with your mouse-wheel and once you've clicked it you're committed to the shot even though the ammunition for it is so limited it's basically a special ability like the laser sword.

    Traversal is about as good as it can be, considering the fact that it's a 1st person shooter, but here's the thing: you've given me so many navigational moves that I can basically cover the entire zone without touching the ground once, and there's fifteen different secrets, including potential weapon upgrades, scattered throughout the level. Of course I'm gonna check every goddamn corner! And that's why it's upsetting when you hit random invisible walls, or ledges you can't actually stand on because the game doesn't recognize them as floors. Furthermore, every level has different stages or sub-zones without clear identification for where they start and where they end. You can rarely tell if you're just advancing to the next room or if you're gonna cross a threshold and suddenly there's a cutscene and the path back is now blocked or worse, the level's over. If it's the later, then you've now missed all those collectibles you still wanted to try and reach, and you either need to start the level again or use the fast travel mechanic, which just isn't all that fun.

    At the end of the day, my complaints about the game are all like this, just little annoyances here and there that keep me from enjoying the game as much as I could. I'd still recommend it to anyone who's into FPSs, and my 8 score is closer to a 9 than a 7, no doubt.

    Doom is all about the action, and it feels great here. It's fast paced, frantic, but always manageable thanks to the many tools at your disposal. There's some strategy required too, as exploiting the different demons weaknesses gives you an edge in combat. You've also got to manage your health, armour and ammo, and you've got ways to replenish all three. For example, if you're low on health, you glory kill a demon, which provides health drops. If you're low on ammo, you use the chainsaw, which provides ammo drops. This all helps to keep the combat engaging throughout the campaign.

    Although it plays quite similarly to Doom 2016, I think I enjoyed this sequel a bit more thanks to a couple of factors. I like the added mobility found in Doom Eternal through the new dash ability and the grapple hook on the super shotgun, both of which serve to make the movement both in combat and in general even more fun. I also felt there was more visual variety in the missions compared to Doom 2016, as you travel to a greater variety of destinations in this campaign which made for more memorable levels.

    Another way Doom Eternal differs is in its platforming sections which I personally enjoyed. They're a nice breather in between combat sections. Eternal also tries to develop the lore of the Doom Slayer but this is one aspect of the game I wasn't amazed by. It feels almost out of place in a game all about the action, and a lot of it is explained through codex entries. This is a Doom game, so stopping every time you find a page just to read some overwritten lore doesn't fit, at least in my opinion. More dedicated fans of the franchise might appreciate this but I wasn't all that interested.

    Although I enjoyed most of the game, some enemy encounters were quite frustrating. Marauders, despite having a very cool design, can be annoying to fight as they require you to slow down and divert all your attention to them, waiting for a cue that tells you you can damage them. You have to fight them a few too many times. It can also be a bit too easy to get stuck sandwiched between enemies and/or terrain in some fights which can lead to some frustrating deaths if you fail to escape.

    That said, I really enjoyed the final boss fight. It was tense, epic and provided just the right amount of challenge.

    Doom Eternal also has an asymmetrical multiplayer mode where one person plays as the
    Slayer fighting two player controlled demons. It's decent fun and its something different. There's not a whole lot of depth to it but it's worth playing a few matches.

    Overall, I really liked this game. It's got excellent combat, a great metal soundtrack, and some cool collectibles. It's not perfect though - some fights can be frustrating, the storyline/lore feels unnecessary, and during my playthrough I encountered a few bugs including a crash. The multiplayer mode isn't as compelling as the single player campaign either. Given all that though, this is still a damn cool shooter that consistently delivers high-octane thrills.

Due to the platforming and exploration aspects, Eternal feels more like an action-adventure than an old-school FPS. While there are plenty of intense run 'n gun encounters, the pace is slowed down by puzzle platforming. You must figure out how to get to a certain section before using your acquired abilities to do so. This element is bound to be quite divisive to Doom purists. Especially since they can become quite annoying. But like the previous game, you'll find all sorts of hidden upgrades. You'll also discover secret areas, timed challenges and horde challenges. Online multiplayer is no longer composed of Team Deathmatches, but is now a 2-vs-1 survival mode: two soldiers battle one demon for match wins. It's worth playing a few times, but the single player mode is the main thing. There's even Live Events that connect with the campaign. Overall, this is a worthy addition to the series. Even if it is too tough at times. I would rate this with a 9 out of 10. Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a disappointment for me. It just does not feel like Doom, It feels like the devs wanted to make this like a halo game and insert a story. (They even put an AI in your suit) lol. They force you to do melee kills in order to play well and is the only way to survive unrelenting hordes of demons and monsters. The story is also mostly conveyed reading texts, yawn.

    The levels are multilayered, but small so there's not much room to run and gun like the old doom games. And boy does this game throw relentless enemies at you, some of which have cheap hits. It's a very trial and error game IMO.

    There is excessive platforming so much so that the game feels like a jumping flash game.

    The graphics were good, but some of the graphics look a touch cartoony compared to doom 2016. I thought doom 2016 was almost perfect.

    Far from as good as the first Doom. This is like some Mario/Uncharted in hell with jumping gaps and swinging from bars, just only in 1st person. Sometimes a bit overwhelming on air-time here.
    From the start you will like to hate this game. You start out so bare-boned. No power-ups of any kind and ridiculous tiny ammo bag. Running out of ammo is almost constant to begin with.
    Luckily you

    Luckily you can power up your carrying capacity a few times, and it should be your number one priority. There is tons of other power-ups and upgrades as well.
    .
    This game is punishing you in the start but it really picks up the pace about midway through. Boss fights are far in between but you will fight and encounter some hard foes as you go.

    The music continues in the same vein with Mick Gordon. But i think the soundtrack was better in the previous game. Still fueled for adrenalin and pushes your testosterone.

    The game runs weird on my PS4 pro. When i pause the game the fan almost instantly cuts, and when i resume, it goes full turbo mode and throttles like crazy. It seems poorly optimised.

    But alas...
    A good game if you can live trough the start, it does get better as you progress.

    Doom Eternal, which is the Sequel to that Doom game from 2016, is what happens when something that works the way it does, can't decide on what to choose so it jams EVERYTHING it can think of in it until it becomes a confusing mess! If i had to rate Doom (2016), I'd give it an 8/10. It was an excellent game.

If i had to rate Doom (2016), I'd give it an 8/10. It was an excellent game.

    The gameplay is frantic, fast and gives you a small heart attack from time to time. To my frustration, this entry uses much more 'environmental' obstacles. The very annoying tentacle monsters that are causing me to jump up, electrified floors and fire spitting buttholes in walls that damage the Doom marine, but not demons -_- great. Next to that, unless you commit to using a different weapon or ability every 5 seconds, you'll die very easily. Which frustrated me considering it undercuts the doom guy! Isn't this dude supposed to scare the **** out of all the demons? Instead he dies like a little **** way to easy.

    And that's what i don't understand. Doom 2016 gave you freedom to play as you wanted with any of the deadly guns you owned. Doom Eternal forces you to do this strange mixing of weapons, and if you don't want it... Screw you.

    Levels in Doom Eternal are more lineair than in Doom 2016, and i like it! For people who don't care about exploring in a fast paced FPS it is much more straightforward. This is definitely an improvement to me.

    The graphics of Eternal are great. It has a good soundtrack, and the enemy designs look good. However, the ones from the previous game looked much scarier. Eternal's enemies from time to time look more cartoonish. Apparently that is to match the first Doom game, although i don't understand why that is something good.

    The UI is overstuffed and too small in certain places. The Health and Armor gauges are clearly visible, but all the extra prompts for abilities are so small it is hard to see what's on them in the middle of a frantic fight. Id software gave a surprisingly large amount of options to customize the experience, but guess what they didn't add... A way to make the UI bigger!

    At first i considered the secrets you collect fun little ornaments. But once i collected a secret that was basically a Doom LP, i realized it was self-indulgent crap. Even the developers weren't shy about the fact that they are just ripping of a way older game. Is this supposed to subconsciously make me want to buy the Soundtrack?? So dumb.

    Doom Eternal is definitely not a bad game. It functions properly, and there is true entertainment in it once you get the hang of it. But i feel like Doom 2016 worked better with the choice of how you want to play, and with a story that doesn't try to build too much lore. More is not necessarily better! Doom Eternal is like an overstuffed goody back, and Id software forgot what they went to the store for. I give it a 7/10. It is a good game.

    This game sets out with the goal of just being a fun game and absolutely succeeds. Are there flaws? yes of course, like swimming is a pointless mechanic, the purple goo is pretty dumb, and.. uhh... actually that's all I can think of.

    The gameplay is the highlight of this game, being so good I had fun with it on controller, without aim assist. The story is also pretty fun, it's not

    As for the enemies, I like pretty much all of them. The Marauder, Archvile, and Pain Elemental are annoying but I don't think that's a bad thing.

    I don't have much else to say, this isn't exactly the deepest game but it's a really fun one.

    One of the most underappreciated games of 2020. Doom Eternal kicked the door down for me and very few games managed to top it.

    The level design is awesome, the soundtrack is banging, and the gameplay is damn near perfect. DOOM Eternal has restored my faith in the FPS genre as a whole. It's that good.

    Doom Eternal was overhyped without a doubt, mostly because its release coincided with a near-complete shutdown of the entire world, but it's still an incredibly fun game with no real competitor out there except Doom 2016. Worth picking up at full price imo.

    Just finished the game and tried multiplayer a couple of times.

    The good: - Plenty of SP gameplay. - Straight up shooter. It's just what it wants to be. - Cool comm speaker announcements and cinematics. - Boss fights. - Difficulties. It is devastating on harder levels. - New mechanics that were brought in to play to change gameplay. Flame belch for armour, chainshaw for ammo +

    - New mechanics that were brought in to play to change gameplay. Flame belch for armour, chainshaw for ammo + glory kill for health-

    Did not bother THAT much but... why..
    - Platforming is kind of stupid here and there.
    - Soundtrack is lame and takes away the atmosphere of rip and tear. All the good songs are collectibles that you can listen to mid missions in your base.
    - Where are some new weapons...?
    - Graphics update would have been nice.
    - Too little boss fights.
    - Too few glory kill animations and almost all of them by stabbing the demon with the hand blade. It loses its touch after a few hours.

    Bad:
    - Multiplayer is just boring. I mean there is none... Why abandon the doom 2016 deathmatch gameplay and put a 2 demon vs 1 slayer instead? It would have been a ok mod but come on... It can't be the only one.
    - Cycling through Map and finding secrets feels like a chore.
    - Getting the Unmaykr after all the slayer gates was a dissapointment.... what the hell. BFG FTW.
    - Arcade style gameplay feels repetitive. There are multiple arenas in each map that you have to go through. All has the same formula. Demons spawn for about 2-5 minutes from low to high level and then you can proceed. There are some platforming and collectibles between arenas. All that you can see in the map when close.

    All in all I managed the game all the way through and did not want to rip and tear myself to pieces. So it's an ok game? Not as good as the previous Doom but what can you do. Multiplayer is pointless btw.

    This game is entertaining but it’s not even close to doom 2016. The mix of quake and doom elements doesn’t work. The stupid jumping and Mario bros fire balls doesn’t really work.. The game playing is not flying - they have added too many monsters and there are too many deaths. Too often you are stuck in a wall etc when the room is filled with demons. The game crashes too often on ps4. TheThis game is entertaining but it’s not even close to doom 2016. The mix of quake and doom elements doesn’t work. Give me doom 4 or a new quake - and please rehire the old heroes. What is good: when it does work all the killing is pretty fun. They added a lost souls kind of monster which is difficult to beat at first - and require some planning and practice. The balance between the flame thrower, chain saw and glory kills works. What made lost souls a good game is not just that it was difficult... and please .. this jumping stuff is just annoying- the Mario Safire balls are oxy moron Expand
