Difficulties are broken, normal mode is incredible difficult even for a good gamer(not in term of gameplay just in terms of ridiculous amount of damage and hp of enemies), huge lack of things to do, just jumping like a donki kong platform, with never ending fights in single areas, just to fill the gap of short longevity.

    Really disappointed.

the game doesn't feel like doom, it feels like destiny but you just so happened to be the doom slayer. The combat for starters is a lazy mess, my guess is that they tried to be resident evil, because you run out of ammo so fast, and dying is fine, but when I am about to hit the peak of the soundtrack, and i run out of ammo, I feel cucked, i then have to run over to the nearest enemy, try not to kill it, then use the chainsaw (which uses a god awful fuel mechanic) to get ammo which spews out colorful pretty ammo icons in complete contrast to the atmosphere. to further back my destiny joke in the beginning, i meant that as in... THE ENEMYS ARE SO GOD DAMN RECYCLED THAT ITS INSULTING, AND WHY IS THERE PARKOUR?! WHY DO YOU HAVE THIS, THIS DOESNT BELONG IN DOOM IT SUCKS SO MUCH, ITS NOT EVEN TASTFUL, AND WHY THE HELL IS THERE PUZZLES, we just done killing demons of hell and now the khan Mayker is like "HAHAHA! You'll never get past my lever pulley monkey swingy thing!" Also the story is god awful, I don't feel like i'm invading a castle, I feel like i'm going through the YMCA jungle gym because every thing is handed to you. This game is a mess and a complete stain on the doom series, although I still had fun in this game, when all the moons come together, this game is fun, the parts with the humans were my favorite part because its funny. But overall this game isn't good but still isn't the worst game I have played played.

A Complete Regret to Buy this Game.

Not because of the gameplay which a hell lot of fun but due to the performance on PS4 is sucks. My PS4 is heating way too much which create a very loud fan noise the most than any other game I've played. Completely drop this game down, otherwise it will damage my PS4 for sure. Disappoint by the developer as they didn't optimize it well for PS4

    Great and greatly overrated
Doom Eternal features 2 modes, an online competitive mode where a demon slayer is heavily unfairly matched with infinitely spawning player controlled demons that just isn’t really fun unless you’re on the demon side, so imam just throw that mode away and focus on the reason everyone is buying doom eternal.. its hefty 17 hour long demon filled campaign, and this campaign is really great… here you play as a demon slayer, taking on zombies and demons on earth as well as mars, going through a fairly linear campaign, but one filled with traversal and platforming, which is a very welcomed change.. however I feel this new addition takes a back seat to the straight up demon slaying, which on paper sounds fine, but ultimately it leads to an incohesive feeling world that feels like a bunch of random video game elements stapled together.. and this is Doom Eternals biggest issue…. Nothing feels purposeful, it feels mindless and repetitive from start to finish, none of the levels are memorable, the combat is constant, never giving you a chance to breathe or explore, it’s a headache… playing through doom eternal is an enjoyable headache.. but still a headache…
combat that time around is much more enjoyable though. Enemies having their weaknesses, making almost every battle feel like a puzzle despite feeling mindless at the same time, rarely leading to frustrating encounters.. but don’t get me wrong.. those encounters do exist.. though rare.. theres one over powered enemy specifically that kills all and any fun youll be having with this game in an instant… more specifically in one area of the game where youre trapped with him and a snake enemy, and no ammo or health really around… which brings me to another gripe I have with doom eternal, its health and ammo situation… ammo health and armor really feel nonexistent in doom eternals world, instead the game relies on you using your abilities to obtain armour and health, you can catch enemies on fire and freeze them, you have chainsaw enemies for ammo… but I just feel like id much rather have ammo drops after killing enemies than forced to find a small one I can chainsaw..wait for that chainsaw to refuel and do it again… the chainsaw system in general is a nonsensical mess… you can store up to 3 chainsaw attacks, however there is no enemy you can kill with 2 fuels… so whats the point… theres 1 and theres 3… and then you have enemies later on that cant be attacked with the chainsaw at all because theyre too big… these enemies should be reserved for 3.. and the middle large enemies killed with 2.. it just leads to fuel hording, and the payoff is never worth it.. but that can be said for this games weapons as well, youre given amazing weapons towards the end of the game, but rarely any fuel to use them, which begs me to ask.. why even give them to me in the first place.. especially the sword… this item didn’t come into play and was basically unusable until the final boss… but if this was that weapons only purpose, I suppose that’s okay… but I feel if that is the case you should’ve just waited longer to give it to me… All in all I do feel Doom Eternal is a great game, its fun zombie slaying to heavy metal, theres a crazy amount of weapons, and different ways to upgrade these weapons, customize them to your gameplay… but just don’t believe the hype… go into doom eternal expecting a great game and not an amazing game or a masterpiece and you surely wont be disappointed…
But if you go in expecting game of the year, youre going to get smacked with level design and gameplay that feels plucked out of the old god of war games with guns stapled to it
    I give Doom Eternal
    an 8/10

I'll start by saying, DOOM Eternal is different from its predecessor in many ways and for sure it takes some time to adapt. Sadly, while some things are for the better - some are just pointless changes that just take away from otherwise great experience.

The biggest positive for me was increased difficulty and what felt like better AI - way more aggressive and way more punishing for dumb plays. I completed the game on Ultra Violence difficulty and it was really hectic and intense. The amount of enemies being thrown at you is literally insane and it's a real blast to kick some demon ass in such a fast paced fashion. And I love Marauder enemies - yeah, hate me now.

However, there are some problems and I'll try to explain why this is not a 10/10 game as universally praised

First of all - platforming. While I'm totally fine with that in small doses - some levels literally had more platforming and than fighting arenas and kicking demons ass. It really dragged and stalled the game for no good reason and it's not like platforming is that well done. In some sections it didn't feel very intuitive and for me it never felt cool stuff to do.

Next up we have bosses - I simply found them boring with repetitive mechanics. For two final bosses - which are basically major game's bosses - you repeat same pattern and what's worse, it's not that much about the boss as controlling adds spawns and keeping up your ammo stock. It just didn't feel so exciting or interesting to be honest.

The we have bloated progression and a lot of it is completely useless and seems like it was done to add illusion of complexity - while only gun mod and health, ammo caps is all that really matters. I mean more doesn't really mean better, when it's just for the sake of having more of something.

Finally - I have some criticism on the pace of first 3-4 mission. With the new system, encouraging use of variety of guns - it just works badly when you have just 2-3 guns available early on, no increased ammo cap (crucial to have better fight flow) - because it feels very disruptive and kinda slow. Thankfully the tempo picks up as you progress further, acquire more weapons and mods as well as you upgrade ammo cap.

Overall - it's a blast and absolutely worth buying even with a bit lackluster multi-player mode (but I didn't get the game for MP, so this wasn't even focus in the review). It's not perfect and some changes could have been handled better, but one cannot deny that this is hell of a shooter game. I don't know about you - but in my book 8/10 is a solid score meaning you can just go and grab the game right now at full price and get you worth back with hours of intense gameplay.

My official review of the game is while bringing over the best elements of Doom 2016 and expanding on them, overall the game is a weaker version of the Doom Model. Gameplay features is the crux of the issue, while expanding on gameplay from last game, it is clear that certain elements are not executed well. Climbing and mobility play a larger role in this game but the novelty wears off quickly as you realize how difficult platforming is when dashing is unpredictable, climbs sometimes do not work and platform set up is confusing. Arenas are larger and bring much more variety, however Doom is suppose to make you fell fast and juggling killing demons and traversing lava pools, acid and not falling off the map is annoying. Difficulty, the game has spiked in difficulty demons hit hard, but at the same time it becomes an overwhelming amount of demons and found myself dying a lot despite this now being my first fps nor first doom title. Boss battles that were once too easy are now progressing to too difficult with the final 2 bosses, I had to equip sentinel armour, reducing incoming damage and gives you full hp and armour,in order to complete them. Story, the original was simple and honestly enjoyable: demons have awoken because corporations got too greedy and got hell energy, stop demons. This game story while also simple relies too heavily on the lore of the world that was lightly established in the first title. While I will admit, I understand it, I can see how some may become lost. Overall, while being a fun and exhilarating experience I much prefer Doom 2016 than this new release. However, I will happily enjoy more Doom in the future. Expand

If I were to describe this game in one sentence, it would be that it feels like a boiled down arcade mode of the 2016 version.

    - Enemies now have weaknesses that needs to be exploited as ammo is very sparse. This quickly becomes repetitive as best illustrated with the caca demon (The flying ball with a mouth and an eye), where you have to throw a grenade into its mouth and perform a glory kill. Every time.
    - Graphics are much improved but the overall setting feels much more cartoony with the way pickups stand out in the landscape.
    - There are now monkey bars and wall climbing.
    - Combat is constantly interrupted by cut-scenes. E.g. when you kill a set of enemies you would see a cutscene of a door unlock. I was surprised on how much this actually breaks the flow of the game.
    - It feels far less polished than the prior entry.

By all means it's a decent game, but if you came here expecting a followup to Doom 2016, you will be disappointed. I would recommend picking this up once it goes on sale.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When you have to look up on Youtube how to get around clunky game mechanics, your game is functionally broken. Is the game good? Hell yeah! But it does have it's share of mechanics that are just frustratingly broken that prevent you from progressing. After the first one, it was no big deal. But now that I am running into number two, this is a problem. This should not be in a game like this. The first one was the mechanic referred to by some as "monkey bars". You had to jump up two of them in a row on the outside of a building and then boost across to the other side, grab a wall and then boost back. I spent dozens of times trying to just go around the corner because I just didn't see the wall where you can cling on the other side. Ok, I thought. No big deal. Annoying, but OK I didn't see it. Now the second one happened. It was in the Taras Nabad pool where you can't melee to break the wall, but you have to underwater dash or something. I tried it a few dozen times to look it up on Youtube and was once again very frustrated and annoyed that my progression was being held back because the game designers made some stupid decisions. Yes, Bethesda, there were some stupid decisions made here. And it annoyed me so bad that I shut the game off and I'm not playing it.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game. Just be prepared to get frustrated and annoyed at some moments with clunky game mechanics that will prevent progressing in the game. Why, Bethesda, why?

If you're looking for a Doom 2016 experience, this is not it. The gameplay is so asinine and rinse & repeat that I barely want to keep finding imps and zombies to chainsaw for ammo, since the developers thought that would be fun to force players to do. Every new aspect of this game slows down the pacing, and that is not what a sequel to one of the best shooters should be like.

Unfortunately, this is quite a different game from Doom: 2016. Rather than thinking "what gun is best to kill this bunch of demons" you will be thinking "which weapon has ammo" (because you run out very fast), or "will I chainsaw or flame this demon".

It's constant farming, constantly low on ammo, constantly low on health or armour. I spend more time trying NOT to kill demons with shots

I spend more time trying NOT to kill demons with shots because I need to glory kill, but by the time I glory kill I'm out of ammo and need to chainsaw, but then OOOPS can't chainsaw because out of fuel or the demon is too strong, aaaaand I'm dead.

Loved Doom: 2016, finished it in a few days and immediately restarted on nightmare mode, now THAT was a fun challenge. This game however, is hard, but not in a fun way, and I'm so bored of it now I don't feel like finishing it.

The game is so repetitive, chainsaw, glory kill, flame, glory kill, shoot an imp in the leg, glory kill, shoot some stuff, out of ammo already, chainsaw. The game forces you to play a certain way. Instead of choosing the gun you like, you use whatever has ammo, and let the game choose your next one when you run out in 4 seconds.

Most disappointing game of the year.

The combat is so focused on forcing you to desperately need ammo, health and armor that the focus on Demon slaying takes a back seat and you just run around the map, plinking away at the bigger demons while searching for small ones to glory kill for health, chainsaw for ammo or burn for more armor. It gets to the point of just being stupid. I’m at the Taras Nabad level and it’s become so irritating that I’ve lost any desire to keep playing. This garbage mechanic carries over to multiplayer as well making it a cakewalk to win as a demon. I played 4 games. One as the slayer and the rest as demons. 4 games is a total of 12 rounds. In 12 rounds I only saw the slayer kill 1 demon and that slayer was me. Unfortunately you have to kill both to win a round.
I’m done writing about this massive disappointment. I REALLY regret buying this.

During arena battles you're constantly out of ammunition which puts the whole fight on pause. Doom Eternal is the most disappointing game I have ever played. The platforming is a disaster, the UI is garish and counter-intuitive, the cutscenes exist, melee probably should have been removed if they were gonna make it this weak. The dash, while good in theory makes normal movement feel slow which is exactly the opposite of how Doom should feel. The platforming is a disaster, the UI is garish and counter-intuitive, the cutscenes exist, melee probably should have been removed if they were gonna make it this weak. The dash, while good in theory makes normal movement feel slow which is exactly the opposite of how Doom should feel. And finally, the ammo management. The max ammo you can hold has been cut by more than half since Doom 2016. Insecure fanboys will shout (and I mean SHOUT) all kinds of justifications about this at you, but the fundamental issue is this: Doom eternal wants you play the game a very specific way. For all the talk about how it's "strategic" it forces you to adopt one very specific strategy--use all the ammo in all your guns then hunt down trash demon and chainsaw it for more ammo. There's two problems with this. First, I don't want to be forced into a specific way of playing the game. Second, the game does a TERRIBLE job telling you that that's the intended way to play and even worse job encouraging it. If you're going to make killing imps/possessed the name of the game, you should make it so they don't stop spawning until the big baddies are dead. And should make sure that they aren't on the other side of the arena than the mini-boss enemies. Having to turn around and sprint away from a mancubus so I can chainsaw an imp in some odd corner of the arena isn't just a limiting design decision; it's an objectively bad one and on that runs counter to the supposed "keep pushing forward nature of Doom."

The devs did a great job ensuring that each weapon has it's uses, you can't ignore any of them. In fact, the ammo limit hurts here, because often you're forced to use less-than-ideal weapons simply because they're the only ones with ammo.

I loved doom 2016 but sadly, this does not feel the same, it's a shadow of its former self. It feels like it was made by fans rather than creators, and what's worse, seems to be following the trends of other FPS games, rather than making its own path like before

I'd prefer to just get in the lift (ok, so everything is broken so are the lifts) to get to the next rather than learn to do acrobatics or fail and fall to my death I mean lose 20 health err. what? Sure put it in as ways to hide specials/upgrades but not in the get between the current part and the next part of the game.

After playing for a while you realise that you have to get the thing to glow orange and press the right key at the right distance at the right time so you can get the appropriate kind of 'confetti' when the monster dies so you don't run out of ammo/armour/health. I get what they were going for, but it seems more annoying than fun although there's still skill required to do so successfully.

It looks pretty, but some of the tradeoffs are you spend a while trying to work out whether you're meant to be able to jump/climb the thing or not. Some of the collision detection with the environment just seems awkward sometimes. That looks like a ledge I should be able to stand on but you fall off. Haven't played it enough and gave up on it, but got the feeling collision detection was a bit off at times as well.

I haven't played something in the Doom series itself for a quite a while but it seems overly concentrating on the over the top gore/animations because they invested so much in it forced them to change the gameplay to focus on that and therefore made it less fun to play overall.

Multiplayer seemed a bit narrow - no basic deathmatch mode, just a 2v1 specialised mode? It looked interesting but with a high initial investment. Can't comment on it yet. But no apparent way to leap in the action and have fun immediately in multiplayer. Err. What?

Maybe the younger generations are happy with it, it turned out not to be what i was hoping for.

I loved 2016 and having finished Eternal, the gameplay isn't the only issue I have with it :

Invisible walls everywhere. The levels read horribly in that regard and the level design is as limiting as the gameplay.
2016 got flanderized in Eternal. The story is a joke. The tone is one big fourth-wall break. 2016's story was far, far more powerful and its tone very successfully skirting the line between meta-commentary and subtle. VEGA being saved, the tension with Hayden, the absolute, rorschach-level slaughter of demons, all of it was amazing. Eternal feels like that cook that doesn't get that seasoning is all about restraint and having just the right amount and instead emptying jugfuls of salt and pepper onto it because "people liked it last time". They took the fun quip about "mortally challenged" and hammered it over and over, as if the writer was going "Hey, that was funny last time, right? Right?"
Two third of the levels don't sell anything about the world, they make you feel nothing. The only ones that did anything were the ones in that elder-maykr-sentinel ancient thing-setting that only managed to be beautiful. Levels exist to be traversed in Eternal whereas in 2016 they elicited both story and a sense of place despite the comparatively much-more limiting Mars UAC setting.

And of course, the gameplay. I want to run and shot at stuff, and I balk at the defense of the new mechanics as "skill". Quake 3 didn't require a chainsaw to reload.

The gameplay is tedious, slower movement, no crouch, monotonous and cramped arenas, constant -forced-teleporting to enemies to execute kills and refill ammo every few seconds. Badly designed platforming sections and vertical areas.
The list goes on.. a story which they are trying to tell is told very poorly (as opposed to the much better minimalist approach from 2016), level and map designs are also a serious downgrade from 2016, graphics and artstyle , just the tone of the game in general are overly bright and cartoonish with hardly any convincing gore or horror elements to speak of. Garish and obtrusive UI. The music score.. as one of the only remaining redeeming features, still somehow never seems to match the schizophrenic pace of the gameplay.. this time around.

Eternal is overflowing with unnecessary gimmicks. Quantity over quality.

After playing through Eternal, went straight back into the 2016 game to refresh my memory.. The difference is like night and day. Having played through 2016 multiple times, it is a far better game.

Doom Eternal is an average shooter, at best. I am struggling, reaching, to award it a 5 outta 10.. As they've ruined one of the greatest FpS's of all time. . its a Four! Absolutely appalling.

But worst of all the gameplay is no fun (remember this is only my personal opinion). The Jump'n Run mechanics simply don't work for me: I always have a wrong angle, get stuck at an edge or simply don't really know where I am supposed to go. And shooting is based on overwhelming the player with loads of enemies and some of them are just stupid spamming shields. I never quite have the feeling to be in control or to know how to best kill the enemies. There's pretty high difficulty spike in the later third of the game, which made me quit the game altogether.
Seems like many people enjoy it, but this game is obviously not made for me and I haven't felt so lost with a controller since PS1 times.

Do you want to go through the same challenges to get the same weapon upgrades for the same weapons as Doom 2016? Do you want to have sudden, and unexplained plot developments that just ‘happen’ because they need it to to have an excuse to move the story on?

Do you want to lose everything that made Doom 2016 amazing and keep everything bad about it, with some awful high speed additions? WELCOME to Doom Eternal, where you can do all of these. Eternal is one of the biggest letdowns I’ve ever had, and I played Fallout 76....

Glory kills are lame as can be and have no real ‘glory’ about them they’re literally just easy ways of getting ammo which is like gold dust, you’re CONSTANTLY running out. And I mean constantly. The super shotgun when fully loaded with fully upgraded ammo capacity holds 22 shells, the super shotgun fires two at once so actually you only have 11 shots. 11 shots on the most iconic gun in the game.....
I cannot explain with just words and no video how lazy the designers have been with creating new glory kills and new equipment. The ‘flame belch’ which is about 1.5 seconds of fire with a 5 foot range is one of the most over-sold lame weapons I have ever seen. The grenades are now in the form of pointless frost Grenade, and moderately useful frag. Both of which aren’t thrown anymore just fired from a shoulder mounted cannon, all to make sure your hands are free to not-fire your guns because they’re all out of ammo.

All of the weapon upgrades are identical to Doom 2016, and have had no upgrades, updates or additional abilities. The challenges to get them are exactly the same. The ‘boss’ fights are again insanely dull, the ‘Gladiator’ boss? Seriously? You have the entire scope of demonic hellish creatures and you make a dull and lazy version of a character that’s been done in numerous other franchises? The ‘puzzles’ of movement and getting around aren’t as irritating as some are saying, but they’re not puzzles that require thinking and skill and trial and error, they’re puzzles that literally just take you trying and trying and trying to time the double jump or the boost. It truly is ironic that a game about hellish creatures, should itself be an absolutely hellish experience. I kept on playing and playing HOPING that maybe it will progress, maybe I’ll get new abilities and new guns, and maybe next level it’ll change, maybe next level and then it was the last level and it was over. What a letdown. Why they needed extra time to release this I am sure I do not know. It doesn’t take 6 months to press copy and paste. Doom Eternal is everything bad about Doom 2016 and nothing good. It’s guilty of an even bigger crime however. Doom Eternal, is just plain lazy.

Why make it so hard? put more difficulties for those no life esport lovers but make it the same as doom 2016 difficulty for the normal difficulty. After you die a few times trying to get the rooms rhythm down, and clear it using all the room resources, it re-spawns a number of those new enemies and some farm-able basics.

So you end up in the same room on repeat trying to get the timing just right until you get to a new checkpoint and repeat the same process. You spend more time at the loading screen then playing at each section.

A draw back at the face pace they want to apply and opponents weak spots is you have to constantly move to get swarmed, which increases the likelihood you miss.

So honestly the game is just you getting to a new area, dying until you get the area figured out then repeating the process, and this is on the normal level.

Trying to merge precision and a biz feel make the game play choppy and ruins the pacing. Zone 1, Checkpoint 1 I died probably six times because I couldn't get two seconds to breath to hit the 'weak point' of the enemy without it dropping heavy artillery on me and almost instantly killing me in one volley.

they ruined doom by killing the simplicity of it and made it less skill based (not fun)

Doom became another victim of Bethesda that all their games are now doing with focusing on children's audience. The dark atmosphere that left the series, cartoon characters, pink-green interface and a silly plot are attached.

WHEN some enemies are susceptible is unclear. WHAT weapons damage some enemies is unclear. Some enemies cause you to maintain distance which heavily restricts the fast-paced movement the game is known for.

Doom Eternal in a nutshell: I died 30 times on the second boss, barely getting it to 50% life on my best run. The game offered me Sentinel Armor. I put on Sentinel Armor, and I defeated the boss without taking ONE point of health loss.

C'mon, id, there HAS to be a middle ground. In fact, I know there is. I played Doom 2016.

In a fast-paced game all about movement, you do not lock upgrades that give you better movement control behind upgrades

In a well-balanced game, difficulty settings provide a proper challenge that you can meet.

Stay away from this game. This is not Doom. I had to check the box a couple of times when i started playing and the menu to confirm that i was indeed playing Doom Eternal and that it's a single player campaign. Play any previous incarnation instead. I have no idea who is writing positive reviews. It's basically Doom 3 arena in single player just with no ammo and platforming. Blows my mind.

This is not my Doom. Got this as a gift cause I had shown interest. With all the great reviews I was ready to jump back into gaming for the first time in 10 years. I played for about 30 mins between jumping to find my way, and constantly running out of ammo and fuel I give up. Doom to me was about shooting demons and having fun. This was nothing but frustrating.

I thought doom is a shooter game, not mario type platformer. I’m disappointed, I just hate this platform parts of the game which are about 60% of the whole game. Although the fight moments are satisfying and dynamic, the main game is a platformer with poorly working wall-grasp.

The other problem i have is them sponging up the enemy to have WAAAYYYY Too much health. while all the while choking you for ammo. Yeah, i know that the chainsaw now exists. but now instead of jumping into the fray with my chainsaw ready to tear a demon a new **** with my chainsaw, i'm running AWAY from the fight to find a conveniently placed imp or zombie to get my ammo back. and i'm doing this EVERY OTHER MINUTE. which, suffice to say, breaks the loops of combat and puts you in positions that you'd really rather not be in. often ending with you getting raped in a corner by 15+ demons at once.

Oh and did i mention there's also an INCREDIBLE amount of enemies per level and you'll often have waves spawning overtop one another which only adds to the problem. oh what's that? use the BFG and Unmayker? Yeah, i would. IF I HAD AMMO FOR IT, AND IF IT DID ANYTHING. The BFG no longer kills everything it passes through anymore. which is QUITE annoying and underwhelming.

all of this is compounded as well by movement canceling and knockback combined with screenshake so that way your feet are effectively planted to the floor.

I don't like being told when to shoot, and i don't like having control over my character taken away.

Oh yeah, and the BFG is on the scroll wheel now and not on it's own dedicated button.

so yes. you will accidentally switch to it and panic fire it on an imp or zobie when you really just wanted your shotgun. it will happen, several times.

AND I HATE BEING PULLED OUT OF COMBAT EVERY SINGLE TIME TO BE GIVING A 1 ON 1 TUTORIAL DEAR HOLY **** DO THESE TUTORIALS BREAK THE ****ING FLOW. WREEEE And yes i turned them off and you wanna know what happened? when the witches that possess demons showed up I had no idea how to deal with them with the ghostbuster style microwave beam that was useless in the main campaign. so when the final boss came round, i spent literally 30 minutes just fighting before pausing and googling. so yeah THE TUTORIALS ARE QUITE NESSACARY. they stayed off though and i thankfully didn't have anything like that occur again.

But it would have been so much better if they put us in scenarios where, maybe you see someone do something similar with them. there is a thing called Show don't Tell. and this game needs to learn to shut the everloving **** up.

I like the fact that you have a nice base of operations, i like the collectibles and secrets, I like the fact that you can break away your enemies' armor. and i LOVE the fact that you can target weakpoints to shoot off to make them less of a threat! However, everything else that i listed is SO profound that all these few good things i mentioned are null and void.

AND THE FINAL BOSS OF THE ANCHIENT GODS WAS SO BAD! HE WAS SO SO BAD! he was just a glorified Marauder who regains health when he hits you HE'S THE MOST STALE FIGHT I'VE EVER SEEN EVER. AND I'M PLAYING DOOOOM AGHGHHHHHHH HHAA

I want to love this game i genuinely do but this game does everything so backward. making itself harder for the sake of making it harder. unessacrly spongey enemies. Choking you for ammo and changing the entire gameplay loop simply by changing how the chainsaw and ammo is dolled out made me so bored and annoyed that i've played the game once out of respect and now i will put the game down and never touch it again.

Doom Eternal is a game that struggles between genres. The simple concept of "point cross-hair at enemy and press the button" had to be altered until it became malformed. Why the hell do developers always stray away from the original design? Why do they always have to add more unnecessary stuff? In short, levels have become more linear, and riddled with platform sections, but weapons and enemies are now more varied, to the point that you cannot simply just blow **** up. you must either wait for them to attack, blow their shield down with a specific weapon, punch their armor, etc. And thanks to all the wonderful gamers out there, Doom now has a story. Who in their right mind would want story and lore in Doom? All in all, this game just doesn't feel fun. It's a modern day AAA game with all the trappings of its dumb competitors, masquerading as an "old school back to the roots" FPS. There would be more i would want to talk about, like on the higher difficulty where all the enemies gang rape you, cause you always dash in walls and get stuck in some weird geometry, or how most enemies have a special attack that if you get close to them they bash your head instantly making armor collecting from them almost impossible during harder fights. Or the repetitive level design (narrow corridor that leads to a crappy arena then jumping on platforms then back to narrow corridors), in which the only themes are "apocalyptic city" and "ancient castle", and a few laboratory areas like in Doom 2016. That's it. No variety whatsoever. In short, ONLY buy this game on a sale.

Lack of ammo and weapon management is awful. Got the "super" weapon for six keys and used it zero times, because it uses bfg ammo. Marauders mechanics are very bad, sometimes you shoot through them without dealing any damage and since you have only 12 shots on powerful shotgun it breakes the whole fight.

There is nothing straight-up about DOOM Eternal. It is a tiresome experience, with too many things to keep track of to be any fun as a shooter, but seriously not enough to be anything better. It is the worst of all worlds, and that is just unfortunate. There is such a thing as being bogged down by too many mechanics, and DOOM Eternal is absolutely it.

However what was delivered is honestly a mixed bag. (I played Doom Eternal on Ultra Violence)

    The positives:
-At times some of the most intense, fast paced FPS action delivered in years.
-Amazing visuals, level design, great sound design.
-Some great homages to the original Doom games.
    -Glory kills.

    The negatives:
-The MARAUDERS. Easily the most frustrating and game breaking enemy I've ever had the displeasure of battling in a game. When you encounter one as a boss you think that's it but these guys later show up as regular enemies in the game. I have beaten Doom 2016 on Nightmare, Metro Exodus on Ranger Hardcore, Devil May Cry on Dante Must Die mode and none compare to the sheer frustration of encountering a Marauder on Doom Eternal. A Marauder makes almost every weapon in your arsenal almost useless and he can block a BFG blast. That's right. A NORMAL non-Boss enemy in a Doom game making the mother of all guns the BFG useless. Expect to die at least 10 times plus whenever one of these Marauders shows up. Expect to have your progress halted and the entire fast paced, fluid flow of Doom Slayer chaos reduced to a stall. The demons are supposed to fear the Doom Slayer yet I honestly end up fearing the Marauder for the frustration he is about to bring upon my game. That's NOT what Doom is supposed to be about. I replayed Doom 2016 several times, sadly I will not be replaying Doom Eternal, mainly because of these game breaking Marauders. Whoever thought the Marauder was a good idea was wrong. Easily the WORST enemy in a Doom game period. Fine for a boss, terrible for a regular enemy.

-Platforming. Is this an Doom game or a Crash Bandicoot game? At times it feels more like the latter with multiple platforming sections which again slow the game to a stall, become frustrating and involve no demon killing. I want to shoot demons not swing on poles and climb walls. I wanted a First Person Shooter not a platformer. Some mild platforming is fine but Doom Eternal has too much.

In conclusion: A mixed bag. At times Doom Eternal feels like the best of Doom and Quake 3 mashed together which is simply amazing yet it is too punctuated with enthusiasm killing enemies (MARAUDER) and platforming sections for Doom Eternal to rise to the top and reach first person shooter nirvana. Don't believe all the paid critic hype. Play for yourself and see.

It turned out that the biggest game he co-developed (DOOM) followed this rule. As did the 2016's reboot: stand up, slam a demon's face to pulp, grab a gun and step into your mighty armoured suit. The space marine aka Slayer eventually smashes a screen to prevent long storytelling at the beginning of the game. Let's go!

The game had a nice build-up, perfectly crafted levels, a well mixed soundtrack, a back-to-basics multiplayer and even a level editor. Take this very same concept, throw in some crayons and flashy paint plus tonnes of Red Bull and you get this game. It will eternally haunt you and leave you saddened if you have been loving this series since the early days.

Dear id-software: DOOM is not platforming, nor is it a game suited for bright pink, purple, yellow,... colours. DOOM isn't choosing a particular weapon to defeat a certain enemy, it was Metroid Prime that perfected this and did it way better. DOOM let's you see and feel the game through the eyes of the Slayer, so why throwing in cutscenes in a way it was done in games in the early nillies? It ruins the pace of the game. The amount of things you can do next to the main storyline is ridiculous: upgrade your gun, suit, enemies, gameplay, with runes and tokens and... Change the appeal, behaviour,... of the enemies. It's all totally unnecessary and pointless. Collecting skins like Pokémon.

I tried to love the new approach, but after 4 hours of playtime I've had enough of it. Thank god I have some great childhood memories left of the nineties DOOM games. One good advice for the gamers that read this: don't buy this game, even when it's on sale! Do you want DOOM on it's finest? Then play the 2016 version or the original ones.

However, I am disappointed by the lack of multiplayer modes this game has compared to Doom 2016. There is no Team Deathmatch, Clan Arena, Freeze Tag, Domination anywhere to be found. I thought the previous doom game was pretty good, but at this point Im pretty done with it. Doom eternal tries to keep it fresh by introducing mechanics for refilling your ammo, armor and health by doing various different types of kills. To me, that mostly hurts the game. I dont know how many times I ran up to a monster to try to chainsaw him just to be out of chainsaw fuel. Or to punch an enemy that stopped blinking the second I got there. It hurts the flow of the game.

The game also heavily relies on platforming, its not some small optional thing. You will need to platform all the time. Platforming works very poorly in first person games, which is why it is usually very rare and only used as a spice in some games successfully. Here, it is everywhere.

The game also very quickly gets repetitive, which would be fine if the game mechanics were excellent but the constant confusion of juggling different styles of killing an enemy to get what you need is just annoying. It ends up feeling like a chore instead of awesome.

I miss the times of games like Doom 3, which was more horror-oriented and used pacing to tell a story mixed with some great shoot outs. I sure wish the ID team could go back to making one like that instead. This is just not that great, in my opinion.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Terrible game complicated air maneuvers render the should be fun game irritating and rage inducing 0/10 because of this alone. I would get stuck for 10-30 minutes on jumping maneuvers and have to rely on YouTube to help me. I’m not a “Doom franchise” player but I have over a 4.0 kill death ratio in black ops 4 and am ranked top 3 percent on modern warfare for kills and score per minute. So I’m not an amateur gamer by any means, but this game is too hard for me on the eaziest mode. Ended up smashing my controller to pieces and deleted the game. NOT WORTH 60 DOLLARS!!!!!!! Expand

I can imagine this being a great game if you are a big fan of almost constant combat in games. I really tried to enjoy playing this game and played the first 4 levels to 100 percent completion which felt really satisfying to complete. I'm a fan of the classic original games of Doom 1, 2, and Doom 64. I completed Doom 2016. I really wanted to like this game and was hyped for it. I'm a fan of the classic original games of Doom 1, 2, and Doom 64. I completed Doom 2016. I really wanted to like this game and was hyped for it. They improved the production values, increased the scope of the game, inserted more of a plot/characters, and kept the same intense gameplay. For me, I enjoyed the puzzley platforming and finding the secrets; they were challenging. What I just cant stand though is the relentless combat which to me is a chore to play through since you are constantly fighting the same enemies over and over again. This is especially tiring given that the levels this time around are humongous and take around 2 hrs to beat sometimes. Its just too much repetitive fighting for me that ultimately killed the enjoyment of this game for me. I got to level 6 before I just could not take it anymore. I enjoyed the original Doom games because the levels weren't that long and there was a better balance of exploration, enviromental puzzle solving/platforming, and combat in those games. The combat wasn't the main focus. So, if you love combat in games and are a fan of God of War or Halo, you'll probably love this game since it seems like an infusion of both. Wasn't for me though since I'm more into the less frequent combat, exploration, environmental puzzles, and secrets of the classic games. Expand

There aren't playstyles in modern Doom so much as players who use absolutely everything, and players who die. [Issue#346, p.84]

A love letter to the classic series written in blood, Doom Eternal is a fast-paced and utterly thrilling way to paint the town (and Mars, and ethereal realms) red. [Issue#174, p.89]

I enjoyed the ending, but it was so long. I had to wipe the sweat off my forehead. But it felt so good to be done.
