    The Definitive Edition was how I played Dishonored for the first time. Therefore, as usual in these cases, I will evaluate the game for what it is, not for the quality of the remastered alone. What is certain is that this is one of the most brilliant video games of the 2010s.

    Dishonored created a new world with its own lore. The Empire of the Isles is a 19th century pan-European    The Definitive Edition was how I played Dishonored for the first time. Therefore, as usual in these cases, I will evaluate the game for what it is, not for the quality of the remastered alone. What is certain is that this is one of the most brilliant video games of the 2010s.

    Dishonored created a new world with its own lore. The Empire of the Isles is a 19th century pan-European cultural construct in names, architecture and fashion, built upon the style of a British constitutional monarchy where, however, the monarch exercises executive power. The despair of the rat-borne plague that sinks the Empire serves as the main background, however the harrowing slaughter of cetaceans for the production of whale oil (Dishonored's main commodity) at the basis of the Empire's industrial revolution plays a part as well. Intrigues, conspiracies, supernatural events, books, plot twists and side stories help complete this compelling world and a story driven by mature and spot-on writing.

    Dishonored's gameplay is brilliant, but that's an understatement. Playing in first-person view as Royal Protector Corvo Attano, the player can move with high verticality along the levels, dealing with various kind of enemies, to his targets. The game offers lots of approaches in movements and attacks. Given this, zones in each level are quite large and allow for a fair amount of exploration. Corvo's equipment, weapons and gadgets, can be upgraded using collected Coins. Corvo is aided with supernatural powers gifted by a god-like man, called The Outsider, which can be obtained and enhanced by using Runes. Using such powers requires and consumes Mana which can be recovered with potions, just like Health. Other collectibles like Bone Charms can enhance Corvo's passive attributes. Combat is generally performed with the sword, blocking blows and moving to the lunge, even though a personal crossbow and a Flintlock-like pistol can be used for ranged combat, the latter by enemies as well. Main targets can be assassinated in multiple ways or neutralized using alternative methods. Interesting side quests can also be completed to get extra rewards. The stealth approach and with few deaths (Low Chaos) is encouraged however it must be clear: to explore all of Dishonored's approaches, even the most stylish or absurd, High Chaos is required and rigid stealth gameplay must be sacrificed, which means many dead and being detected, which in turn affects the ending of the game because the more corpses, the more proliferation of plague. By combining gadgets and powers (such as attaching a mine to a rat, taking possession of it and detonating it near enemies), some surprising gameplay solutions can come up. Either with Low or High Chaos, gameplay is indeed very satisfying, varied and deep.

    However, the game has some problems. In stealth, the fact darkness offers shelter only at a certain distance leaves me dumbfounded. Maybe it's to counterbalance the player's powers but I find it a mostly wrong choice: the result is that even in pitch dark enemies see Corvo at short distance, while they shouldn't. The enemies' AI is good, but it has happened that it acted in strange ways, jamming pathways and compromising my planning.

    Dishonored's graphics were criticized at the time. True, it was the least successful aspect of the game, but I think its art style impacted. Still, it's an aesthetically pleasing game. Too bad the remastered doesn't add much apart from 1080p and little else; the lack of 60 fps is unjustifiable. The audio and music component of the game is of high quality.

    As said, I think Dishonored has been one of the most brilliant video games of the 2010s. A nice plot, a captivating world and an amazing, deep gameplay. Too bad for the graphics side (and for a lazy remastered), but all in all Dishonored is a masterpiece of European production which, in a decade, has aged very little and very well.    … Expand

    Enjoyable game where you have total freedom to choose how you will finish the missions. Nice artstyle, and the levels looks very beautiful.

    My favorite game is now on Playstation 4! Normal graphics, a good story and just divine gameplay, which has incredible variability, so also all the dlc! Unfortunately, compared to the previous generation of consoles, Dishonored looks so-so, but the visual style and gameplay make this game the best immersive sim.

I enjoyed the art style immensely—it was cartoon-ey enough to feel like a game (which is a good thing in my mind), but also somber enough to drive home the complexity of the world the creators were trying to build and to remind you that you were killing humans, for those who chose to go the lethal route.

    The music and sound effects were also top notch. I    Really great stealth gameplay. I enjoyed the art style immensely—it was cartoon-ey enough to feel like a game (which is a good thing in my mind), but also somber enough to drive home the complexity of the world the creators were trying to build and to remind you that you were killing humans, for those who chose to go the lethal route.

    The music and sound effects were also top notch. I loved that every now and then the guards would randomly shout something like ‘GOTCHA’ at a rat—it scared the mess out of me because I tried to get Ghost (‘never detected’) on every level, so every time, I thought they had found me. Plus, the gentle scream in the distance of the wind, with the loud clang of the propaganda announcements........the sound was really well done.

    But I did deduct two points from my score, and I did that because I didn’t like that a nonlethal playthrough limited me to so few abilities and weapons. If there had been more options available to me as a nonlethal player (and a player that would never choose to be lethal), this would have been a perfect 10. But all game I only used sleep darts, Blink, and chokes. Meh. There could have been more fun to be had here.

    And there would have been, had I chosen to be a little more violent in my methods. But I just can’t stomach it, you know? I don’t care how bad the person is, God hasn’t given me the right to kill anybody. Even in a game (when I have the choice). Another way to solve this problem would have been to turn them all into shrubberies and call it ‘Plant Wars’. But that sounds stupid.

    Absolutely loved the steampunkish setting and the story: dark and gloomy and stinking of whale oil. Also the possibility to use vastly different approaches on how to do missions is amazing!

    One of my top 3 favorite games on the ps4. I've also played it on ps3 but on ps4 it's the real deal. The hardware does justice to what the developers wanted to achieve. Art looking graphics but as a videogame. I love everything about this game, the story, art style, combination of stealth and freedom of choice which affects your actions.     I love these games - stealth done well. Unlike Thief on PS4 (pc originals were fantastic). Good story, nice graphics and enough variation in abilities to choose your preferred playstyle

Interesting plot, diversified missions, charismatic main character, not bad voice acting. Difficulty level is just fine, you won't be bored with this game.     After watching gameplay on youtube I decided to give this game a shot and was glad I did. Game was mainly for stealth but I found myself just killing everyone regardless if they spotted me or not. Loved the power options and most of the challenges were pretty easy. Was more of a fan of Dishonored 1 vs Dishonored 2.     I finally got around to playing this for the first time, and it is AWESOME! Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. "Dishonored" is one of the best games I've played in a long time. It plays well, it has a great story, and it's a ton of fun and a very addictive stealth game. It has a couple problems such as the long loading screens, a cinematic right after mission 6 that was veryI finally got around to playing this for the first time, and it is AWESOME! Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. "Dishonored" is one of the best games I've played in a long time. It plays well, it has a great story, and it's a ton of fun and a very addictive stealth game.     My ONLY fault with this version of Dishonored, while a novel idea, the Heart whisper only plays through the controller speaker, so when you only play wearing a headset it negates the ability to hear the whispers.    … Expand

Given my OCD this really bothered me but I went ahead and bought D2. I had no idea this was the case but a Dishonored Difinitive Edition psn code was inside Dishonored 2's case! I flipped out. I get to play them in order! Well I finally finished it and I gotta say the stealth in this game doesn't quite compete with the likes of Metal Gear or Syphon Filter, but for a FPS stealth game it is exceptional. Play as Corvo and uncover the conspiracy that has you framed for murdering an Empress. Do you wan't to leave a trail of blood or play as a merciful assassin? It is up to you, play as you please. Once you beat it try going back and doing the opposite. It feels like a whole new game. I know I am way late to the party on this one but if for some reason you are still on the fence try it out. It is definitely worth the $20.00 (I'm pretty sure it's that cheap now) it costs, and keep in mind if you buy Dishonored 2 (also a fantastic game) the first dishonored comes with it.… Expand

    It is still the Dishonored I remember, but the FOV is terrible and I don`t understand why there is a 30FPS lock. I still recommend Dishonored for everyone, because even if the FOV is terrible and the 30Fps lock is on it is still a great game. In Norway the game costs 400 kr which is 48$, and for me that is a great price for a game that also contains all of its Dlc`s.

What's nice is that the game emphasizes stealth & non-lethal actions (the best ending comes when you kill as little as possible) while the abilities & magical effects (from teleportation to slowing time) add a nice dimension to the action. It can get a bit frustrating at times though that is somewhat remedied by being able to save whenever you can (the game itself does advise you to save often). Overall, a nice just of pace in FPS games.… Expand

This game in my opinion remains outstanding, but nothing massive has changed from the main game last time round; I think its mostly graphical changes.     If you've never played it before, then I absolutely recommend it 110%. I finished it twice on this edition as well as 2/3 DLCs and absolutely loved it, but as a remaster, they have not added any huge game-changing things to it. I would say this edition is personally for the ones who either missed out on the whole package or just all of the DLCs (like me), rather than those who still have access to the game and have played everything before (you'd pick this up for an absolute bargain now, a seriously amazing game with 2/3 fantastic DLCs - 'Trials of Dunwall' is nowhere near up to the standard of the rest of the package but that seems very insignificant when you're getting an amazing overall package).

    In my opinion the game has an:

    Absolutely Outstanding main game.
    2/3 Fantastic DLCs.

Set in a retro-tech, apocalyptic Victorian inspired world, you play as Corvo Attano. A man framed for the death of the empress and kidnapping of Emily, her daughter. He escapes prison and is granted supernatural powers by an ancient, powerful spirit.

    He embarks on a brutal quest for revenge. Armed with unfathomable power, he seeks vengeance towards those who ruined his life...

    The stealth element is the crowning glory of the game. You can scale buildings quickly and fluidly like a ninja, run across rooftops, walk on drain pipes, crawl though ventilation and the like. You can be one with the shadows. You can preform stealth kills and take down or engage in open combat, unleashing a whirlwind of arrows and blades.

    You have an arsenal of imaginative and ingenious tools at your disposal. How you use them is up to you and your ingenuity.

    This edition of Dishonored contains smoother graphics and all of the downloadable content readily available.

    Pros:
    Good combat
    Great stealth mechanic, feels very satisfying.
    Atmospheric setting, rich in lore.
    Dialog between characters is good and well executed.
    Interesting story with multiple endings
    Great replay value

    Cons:
    Character models could of been better
    Option of playing 3rd person would been cool

    If you missed this back on the PS3, this is a great option for the PS4. Dishonored is probably one of the best games to come out in the last era of consoles and it has aged pretty well. You'll also get the DLC which adds some extra hours of gameplay, although it's more of the same yet fleshes out the story some more with a new character. Considering that this game used a slightly cartoony or caricature type style, the graphics hold up surprisingly well even after a few years. The gameplay is the same but still quite smooth and allows for stealth or action, whatever you prefer.

    I played this on the PS3 and yet still picked up this new edition on sale because this game is really that good. Gameplay, art style, and story all meshed into one cohesive hole. The world is very immersive in a steam punk/fantasy environment. It's awesome and will be considered as one of the greats like Half-life, Halo, and Doom are today. Pick it up and you won't be disappointed. If you played the hell out of this game on the PS3 though, it might not be worth a pick up as there is nothing new at all here. Despite that, I'm scoring the game itself here, and it holds up very well. It's better than a lot of the crap recently released actually.    … Expand

The game also lets you know that if you want a better outcome, you should avoid killing to many people so your choices have consequences. This game is not linear, as the zones are big and you're encouraged to explore. I do wish it would let you revisit certain areas after you completed a mission but this isn't a deal-breaker as it does make the game highly re-playable.

    Note that I only played the PS4 edition. Read some of the other reviews and I'm just surprised at the number of negative rants on this game. If the graphics aren't a big upgrade over the PC edition, then so what?! The game looks really good, it has a nicely rendered pre-industrial atmosphere circa 1890. Also so much life is given to all characters, including enemies, as you hear the conversations between thugs, soldiers etc. Reminds me a bit of Bioshock when playing the audio recordings. And to top it all, the story is really entertaining. In any case if you have never played the PS3 or PC edition, and like games like Thief and Bioshock, then give this one a try.    … Expand

    Bad: Ok so what i HATE about this games is that its very hard to not kill every single guard. For example, you alert one guard by himself, then he alerts every damn guard on the level you fight you, next thing you know its a blood bath with 10 dead soldiers on the ground. It makes it really hard to be stealthy, plus there have been times where i've been spotted and take damage around and through corners. Lastly the graphics are quite poor for this 'definitive edition' plus it feels like there is barely anything new.

    Overall the Good vastly outweighs the bad and it still makes for an fantastic game that is quite short and can be completed in no time.    … Expand

    A very stylish and exciting game. I have gave this game a 8, although it would've got a 9 if they wasn't only mild improvements. It has a beautiful, colorful and pleasing world and a story that makes you want to be a part off it. However, i do not recommend getting this game if you previously owned it on the generation below, I do not think the improvements stand out enough for another buyA very stylish and exciting game.     Dishonored was an incredible accomplishment—a game that offered stylish murder and great storytelling in equal measure. It accomplished everything that it set out to do and made it look easy, while games all around it failed to impress. Three years later, nothing in its genre has come close.

    I regret not having played Dishonored when it originally came out, because the Definitive Edition looks like time has been standing still for the last three years, at least when the PS4 version (which does not offer 60 fps, by the way) is concerned. [11/2015, p.52]
