Dishonored: Definitive Edition

Dishonored was an incredible accomplishment—a game that offered stylish murder and great storytelling in equal measure. It accomplished everything that it set out to do and made it look easy, while games all around it failed to impress. Three years later, nothing in its genre has come close.

If you’re late to this particular party, the Definitive Edition is a good way to get caught up on one of the strongest action-adventure games of the decade, right in time for its sequel to come out in 2016.

Some problems with AI, story direction and character development still exist. But nonetheless this is beautifully crafted stealth-action that delivers – also thanks to the included DLC.

From a great game you can only have a great remaster. Dishonored has never looked this good on consoles and this remaster is just mandatory for anyone who hasn't yet played this masterpiece, although it doesn't have anything new.

Dishonored is an amazing game, and if you missed it on the previous go around, you need to pick it up immediately. The game is every bit as awesome as you’ve heard.

Better graphics, all DLCs. This is the best version of the game, but only if you don't own the GOTY edition of the old-gen version.

It’s a pristine release that’s being saved from fading into history with this re-release and delivers all the content as a thank you. For the double dippers considering this, a stern word of caution. Very little has changed since you left Dunwall but if you really get a kick out of your controller talking to you then by all means, go in for the kill.

With no visual upgrades, additional areas or missions, the main purpose behind this release seems to be keeping the franchise in the public eye until the announced sequel drops, but if you’ve never played Dishonored before then definitely try to pick this up.

It effortlessly switches from tense stealth to tactical but speedy combat, managing to put most games in both genres to shame in the process.

It probably doesn’t do enough to warrant a double-dip for those who have already experienced the game on last-gen consoles, but despite the lack of a noticeable overhaul, Dishonored remains one of the best first person action games on the market.

Dishonored Definitive Edition ports the 2012 original version to the powerful Xbox One and PlayStation 4, including all DLC. That means better graphics and extra content. There are some downsides, but there is no better moment to start playing Dishonored.

Nothing has really changed from that original 2012 version in this version here. You are getting the same game fully and completely that Arkane released with that promise of a bit more shine and polish.

It's great to return to Dunwall ahead of next year's sequel, but this Definitive Edition doesn't add anything to the overall Dishonored experience.

The best console version of Dishonored that money can buy--and make no mistakes, that still makes this the best version of a fantastic game—but as a re-release on systems far more capable than their predecessors, this is a perfunctory release that doesn’t justify the price tag except out of sheer convenience.

While the Definitive Edition doesn't particularly bring anything new to the table, nor does it enhance the original game as much as other titles that made the jump from last-to-current-gen, Dishonored luckily has a great foundation that helped ease this transition.

The Definitive Edition changes nothing, but Dishonored is still bravely uncompromising in terms of the freedom it offers the player and its willingness to treat them as an adult.

Still, it would have been nice to see a bit more treatment given to Dishonored: Definitive Edition, as this underrated gem is something that should be experienced by as many people as possible.

Dishonored Definitive Edition doesn’t live up to its name, but the core game and its DLC are still stylish and fun.

While not the lavish remaster fans might have hoped for, this port of Dishonored remains a great stealth-action title, and the addition of Knives of Dunwall and Brigmore Witches only amplify that point.

Dishonored: Definitive Edition is a game that should definitely be on your bucket list if you missed it on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, but it might as well be called a Collector's Edition if you've already been on this journey before.

Dishonored still is an excellent stealth and action game, but its remaster is like a port. A must-have for new players, but not recommended for those who have already played it.

A superb game in a not quite as superb package.

Again, this is still a great game, but it’s a port that unfortunately feels largely unnecessary.

There isn’t any good reason to buy the game again if you enjoyed the original Dishonored, but if you haven’t played it you should try out this Definitive Edition.

I regret not having played Dishonored when it originally came out, because the Definitive Edition looks like time has been standing still for the last three years, at least when the PS4 version (which does not offer 60 fps, by the way) is concerned. [11/2015, p.52]

Despite everything that Dishonored still does right, the Definitive Edition is a lacklustre port.

Those who really liked Dishonored and want to try it again on the new systems can have a decent time with the Definitive Edition. People who missed out get a complete package, but need to keep in mind that this game is not easy, and manually saving after each section will become a priority while playing.

Dishonored is a great game that doesn't quite achieve excellence, and this collection is the best way to experience it all on consoles, but the port simply offers a crisper image and more defined textures. There's very little reason to buy this if you've already played it, but newcomers will still find a very entertaining title if they embrace the stealth mechanics.

There is no reason to buy this Definitive Edition... unless you did not play an essential title in its day and don't have old-gen console or gaming PC.
