Excellent game, solid story and combat. I loved the original game but I think this one is a bit better.

The first game is still better in my opinion, but Dishonored 2 brings so may new things to the table that for the most part work that it's hard to hate it.

The main problem I have with the game is the comparative looseness compared to the first game in mechanics. Enemies sometime seem to be able to spot you from lightyears away and when you're directly above them, somehow, and some ways you get caught can often feel unfair and not at all the fault of the player. Further there are several bugs that didn't exist in the first game, such as Emily's Far Reach instant killing you for no reason, and an arc pylon that didn't shut off even though I had removed its power source entirely leading to another instant death.

It was due to these that I despised the game at first, putting it down for three years until a repeat playthrough of the first game and its DLC rekindled an interest in giving it another go. The finicky nature of the game compared to the first one set me off just as much as it had before, and by the third mission, the one I'd clocked out on the first time, I was still having an experience that ranged from lukewarm to terrible. After that, however, I slowly began to get a feel for how the game worked different from the first, and outside a few weird hiccups I began to really sink into it, until by the end I was absolutely hooked.

Took a bit for me to come around to it, but if you just stick with it, chances are you'll fall for it just as hard as the first one. I'll still hold the first game as superior in my heart, but I'm planning on putting in multiple playthroughs of its sequel just the same.

The best immersive sim and stealth game. The plot, unfortunately, is much weaker than the first part. But it would be unfair to the genre to downgrade the rating because of the plot.

Лучшая игра в жанре имерсив сим и стелс. Сюжет, к сожалению, сильно слабее первой части. Но снижать оценку из-за сюжета будет несправедливо по отношению к жанру.

Uninteresting story and characters that fall flat compared to the first game, two characters with the same story but different (and cringe) dialogue that often breaks the immersion of you being in a STEALTH, dark and broody game. Copy-paste powers and some weird glitches (walking into a peaceful NPC killed him by throwing him to against a window at 1000km/h which alerted everyone around).Uninteresting story and characters that fall flat compared to the first game, two characters with the same story but different (and cringe) dialogue that often breaks the immersion of you being in a STEALTH, dark and broody game. The only thing it has going for it is some very interesting level design like the shapeshifting house, and it's still a Dishonored game, just a more low effort one. Bullcrap DLC though, who cares about that character anyway.

Overall a good game but less inspired and with a weak and predictable story compared to Dishonored 1. The first half is excellent, then it becomes blunt and even boring at times, I had to push myself to finish the last two missions and I ended up with a lot of unused runes. The endings are nothing special and seems to have been rushed just to give a closure to the story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not quite as good as the first one. Was a much bigger fan of Dunwall than the new setting of Karnaca. That being said, Karnaca does have some pretty great levels (the Clockwork mansion in particular). If you enjoyed the first game, you’ll enjoy this one (and vice versa if you didn’t like the first one). Emily plays very similar to Corvo. I like the play without getting detected, so the only powers I really use are the blink/far reach and dark vision which both characters have so they were almost the exact same thing to me. One change I am not a big fan of is the Outsiders new voice actor. MUCH preferred the actor from the first game, but otherwise no gripes. The actor for Corvo is awesome. Expand

The aim acceleration and native input delay (on the PS4 version - NOT the PC version, which is not what you should be basing your reviews on for this entry) make this a gigantic chore to play. If you're used to garbage controls, then I guess it's fine, but for those who are expecting a smooth controlling experience, you might as well play this on PC or go find another game.

unfortunately i guess the devs have decided to troll console users or something? bc my god this game plays like utter **** on ps4 pro (consoles in general from what i read). its not *technically* unplayable but its def unplayable for me bc after several hours of slogging thru this **** im done with it.

to start with the FOV is insane, its like looking down a low power telescope and theres no way to change it. its so zoomed in you routinely get hit offscreen by enemies that took two steps and went from right in front of you to off screen. it also makes looting/looking for things a pain.

right stick/camera movement is just awful - aiming it literally nigh impossible due to some weird camera acceleration that seems to happens when you aim and if you turn sensitivity down youre slow as hell anytime you need to turn. who thought this was a good idea? did they just not test any of this before release? if it was a PC game first (idk if this is the case) fine, just adjust it so it functions on consoles. i really dont understand these decisions.

the game is not exceptionally difficult, but considering its a 1st person game, these issues just make it frustrating and completely unenjoyable to play, to the point where im done even trying to adapt to it now. which is a shame bc there is a really great game here... its just totally unsalvagable imo, unless they fix these issues (and considering im writing this in 2021 i doubt thatll happen)

got it for $8, i wouldnt have downloaded and played it if you PAID me $8 knowing what i know now.

A great sequel that has the strengths of Dishonored and improves on it. It is set 15 years after the events of the prequel. Corvo has aged but is far away from retiring. Corvo has aged but is far away from retiring. He trained his daughter Empress Emily Kaldwin well in the skills of stealth, infiltration, fighting and assassination as he knows the time will come when her enemies will make their moves. After a coup by Delilah Copperson it is your decision to chose either Corvo or Emily to be the playable character. Dishonored 2 continued were the prequel stopped as best stealth game in years. The setting is dark and matured. It has also a better story than the prequel. It is full of reveals, plots, twists and the old and new characters never fail to deliver. Fans / players of the prequel know Delilah Copperson and will be puzzled how this could be happened as she should be neutralized (Handled in DLC for Dishonored). It is a tough and intense ride to defeat the traitors. The returning old characters that I wont spoil work well. They have also developed during the years that have past and have relatable personalities / motives. For the new ones I think Kirin Jindosh, Aramis Stilton and the Duke of Serkanos (he counts twice ;-) are great additions to the cast and lore. As in the prequel based on your approach / decisions it gets even darker /more hopeless later on. If you kill many guards in one level then the next level will be guarded heavier with more guards (There are also other changes which I won't spoil). It is possible to solve the game without killing anyone or ever get detected. Lets start with the abilities. Again the Outsider a being who is existing between realms and worshiped by some as god and seen by others as evil pagan demon gives you a choice to receive his blessing in form of supernatural abilities (and a mark). You can of cause refuse but I think the abilities are too fun and awesome to avoid. Both Corvo and Emily have unique abilities so you can replay the game with the other one for a different experience. Because Corvos abilities are close to his in Dishonored 1 I favored Emily. The variety is great as there are abilities for stealth, manipulation and fighting. You can learn or upgrade your abilities during the game after reaching special locations. They improve the levels / environments. Like in the prequel the variety in the levels is remarkable. Most times there are multiple ways or approaches for a task. When I replayed a level I often find alternative ways or set things in motion that even change the outcomes. Here in this games are 2 masterpieces with Jindosh mansion he specially created as challenge for intruders or Stiltons mansion with 4th dimensional gameplay (Keep thinking hard what is possible as you can make mayor changes here if you grasp the possibilities correctly). There are some sidequests added to the game atop on collecting valuables, charms (give small bonuses), blueprints, lore and ability points. This variety and the multiple approaches give a lot of replay value. The graphics look great as they have a special art style for the world and characters. I liked that style as it enhances the game. Overall this is a great game that surpasses its predecessor. There is so much to explore, abilities to test / use and different paths to take. An easy recommendation for lovers of stealth games. The sad part is, there is a fun game in here, but if you play it like an action adventure romp, the game keeps telling you it’s wrong and you should feel bad. Screw this game - video games are meant to be fun, not pointlessly frustrating and annoying.

The gameplay is really fun, with some awesome quality of life improvements after Dishonored 1 and Death of the Outsider, like the quick save and quick load buttons. They did the level design well in general—although most of my complaints concern the game’s design, the levels are still really fun to wander around, and tracking down enemies and slowly taking them down one by one is a blast as you slowly unlock more areas you can safely explore.

The art is the same great art from before, and the music was a treat. The sound design in general in all the Dishonored games is top shelf.

There is a LOT of lore, so if you’re a completionist and you know you can’t find a scrap of paper in a game without reading it or you feel like you’re not getting ‘the full experience’, this game will feel like a grind. Personally, I read the stuff in level one, and after that only read the things that directly concerned the mission. There is an indicator on the game’s HUD that lets you know if something is really important. It’s a nice feature, and that meant the lore never overwhelmed me. Props to the devs for including that indicator, very nice idea.

Now, there were a few issues: One, you will need a guide to do all the things you will probably want to do. Nonviolently eliminating certain key figures (no spoilers) can be very complicated, making it all but necessary to be shown the answer rather than figuring it out yourself. In my opinion, that is poor game design. It should be a little bit easier to accomplish main mission objectives in the way I want to. Collectibles can be really challenging, sure, but not main mission objectives.

Two, certain levels were really hard unless you knew in advance what upgrades to buy. I did the whole game without a guide, and without giving anything away, two levels were a slogfest without having the right upgrades installed. There should have been a warning or some more sneaky ways for me to avoid combat that would have kept these levels from being as hard.

Lastly, the nonviolent takedown trigger was finicky. Sometimes, probably once or twice a level, I would not be able to take down an enemy even though I was in the correct position, and it would often trigger a detection and call all the other enemies to my position. It’s not the end of the world, but a stealth game really benefits from having tight nonviolent controls.

No more negatives. It’s a great game, with interesting levels and fun little challenges, with awesome music, distinctive art, and a satisfying flavor. Be warned, all ye who enter here: You will have fun.

I don't believe there is a single Dishonored game that I don't like, and while DIshonored 2 perhaps has some missions that I found to be a bit too restrictive, and frustrating in some cases, (for my own tastes).

I still think to this day, and after replaying the game on a multitude of systems, and a multitude of times that it is an excellent, master crafted experience.

Everything ranging from the design of the game, to how every system within its gameplay and world blends together is beautiful.

WIth the addition of new game plus, and mission plus, the developers of the game have committed themselves to increase the experimentation, and replayability even further.

If the last game was a joy to replay to witness how some of your decisions affected the world around you, as well as the ending of the game.

In this case the game impulses you to experiment, and replay it simply because of how incredible is the potential of experimentation with each encounter you face.

Every adversity, every door that's locked, every enemy that you encounter, there are literally thousands of ways to deal with every single one of them.

This is where Dishonored 2 is at its best.

The story of the game to a degree isn't that good, given that it is a story we've seen time and time before in multiple pieces of media, even sharing uncanny similarities with the original Dishonored game.

That being said, the game compensates in this sense by having a brutal, beautiful and enrich world around the player at all times.

Every locale that you explore, every npc that you meet, there is a story in most corners of the empire, some of them sad, and tragic, others beautiful, and loving.

    Always complex however, always profound.

Graphically the game is a lot more detailed than the original DIshonored, it still has its unique art style that blends both a cartoony aesthetic, with a fairly realistic one in some aspects, it is alluring for me personally.

I've always liked how this games look and play.

The characters that we know and love are back as well, Corvo, and Emily, now the empress of the empire, are both playable and both offer a multitude of different powers to choose from as well as different outcomes for most of the situations you'll find yourself in.

Overall Dishonored 2 left me with a very strong desire of satisfaction, one however, that also left me desiring to play more and more of it, experimenting with its different systems, and gameplay mechanics, in a futile attempt at perhaps getting to experience most, if not all, of what this game has to offer.

D2 has better gameplay, level design, more non-lethal options and powers than its predecessor. If you're a fan of the first Dishonored, you'll adore this one.

I've played a lot in Dishonored and Dishonored 2. Both of them have interesting and intriguing plot, plenty ways to "beat-the-game" and most enjoyable gameplay I have ever experienced. You definitely should try it out! The only thing I would like to warn you about - play the first one before starting D2, or, at least, watch the gamefilm on YT.

Meh face. The first Dishonored game was not the best first person sneaker I ever played but it offered some nice choices for the player that made it a memorable experience. Dishonored 2, for mostly worse, is more of the same and somehow less of a game overall.

My first major gripe is the option to play as either the original Dishonored daddy or the the Dishonored daddy’s daughter. If you play as the dad, you have all the original powers included the very useful time stopping power. If you play as the daughter, you have a less useful shadow creeping power. The difference is that the time stopping power could be used to knock out an enemy and hide the unconscious body before anyone noticed. In the first game, there was a wonderful option to end a duel by stopping time after the guns were fired, knock out the other duelist, return to the starting position, and fire a shot to make the crowd think the other duelist was killed. This was essential for a no-killing play through that made Dishonored so engaging. The daughter’s shadow power is not invisible to enemies, they may detect you, and they will definitely notice you sucking the life out of an enemy. A no-kill playthrough with the daughter is practically impossible and I do not recommend it. This means that to have the best game, you have to play the old hero with the old powers as some sort of extended DLC instead of a new game.

The game world is also a severely limited version of a current-gen game. A lot of Bethesda games have this problem. The game worlds are small by current standards and not very populated. There are no crowds to blend into like Assassin’s Creed Unity. There are no buildings to enter or side streets to stroll for the sake of strolling them. Every piece of architecture has a purposed and it ultimately funnels the players into interactions in the same way a linear game would. The original Thief in the 1990s had about as many paths to take as Dishonored 2.

If a player does decide to go on a killing spree, and they might considering how the game opens, then the game has them covered. The player has a pistol, a crossbow, grenades, and mines. The daughter can turn fallen enemies into ash and the daddy can have rates eat them. The daughter can also mark several enemies for death and then kill only one to kill them all. This is assuming the daughter can sneak close enough, which is difficult because the enemies call see and hear with superhuman ability. The player can receive the ability to see through walls which would be fantastic except the entire screen turns red, enemies turn red, and the distance is too short to be useful most of the time. The game really encourages the player to bumble about and take out enemies with gunfire and sword fighting. For a stealth game, this is suboptimal play.

The game world itself is rather boring. The player lives in a magic inspired alternate world like some kind of steampunk Middle Earth minus the elves and dwarves. I liked it better in The Order 1886, a game that had mostly frustrating gameplay but a wonderfully engaging game world and visuals. In Dishonored 2, characters will monologue at you and lore items will give you some details of everyone’s bleak lives. There is no gallows humor that made games like Fable 2 so fun. I was not interested in any of it and liberally skipped the speeches, especially the Outsider’s speeches. Even in the end, I did not care if I had the bad or good ending. I can watch the other ending on YouTube. What should always matter is the story of the game while you play it, and the story of Dishonored 2 is one of trying to sneak past enemies and then killing a half dozen when one spots you peaking around a corner.

Full disclosure: I bought this game for about $5 used from GameStop. I also played this game at the end of a long string of 6 games bought used from GameStop. I certainly had no desire to justify my purchase and I was rather exhausted of slogging through gaming tropes from my treasure trove of unwanted titles. All in all, I was expecting the same kind of stealth experience I had with the first Dishonored, where I meticulously planned a no-killing, no-alarms play through. This style of play is simply not as fun in Dishonored 2, especially with the killer robots that have eyes in the backs of their head (I wish I was joking). This sequel lacks a particular fun factor that made the first game so intriguing. Maybe this a game that should not be a franchise.

Dishonored 2 is the best game I’ve ever played probably the best game I’ll ever play. It was the first game I had played in years that immersed me so much that I forgot anything outside of the game world existed while playing it. It’s a sequel to Dishonored 1: a first person stealth-action game and an immersive sim set in a 19th century setting which is also one of my all time favourites.Dishonored 2 is the best game I’ve ever played probably the best game I’ll ever play. It was the first game I had played in years that immersed me so much that I forgot anything outside of the game world existed while playing it. It’s a sequel to Dishonored 1: a first person stealth-action game and an immersive sim set in a 19th century setting which is also one of my all time favourites. Dishonored 2 is better than Dishonored 1 in every single way apart from the story because if you’ve played Dishonored 1’s DLCs then no.2’s story can be quite underwhelming. The story is still great but not quite as good as the first game’s story though.

What I loved about the first game is how much freedom you get in choosing how to play the game. The levels are so ridiculously detailed letting you progress through them a million different ways (i.e. Go through the front door or scout the building exterior and look for a secret entrance or teleport to higher ground and go through an open window or even possess a freaking rat and crawl through the ventilation system). There was new things I learnt about each level even when playing them for the 3rd time. Dishonored 2 expands on this because the level design is somehow even more complex and detailed than Dishonored 1’s level design which shouldn’t have been possible so you can still play the game however you want but with even more freedom and with more parts of each level to explore.

(Feel free to skip this section if you’ve already played Dishonored 1) If you haven’t played Dishonored 1 and want to know what the gameplay is like, here is my breakdown of the first game’s gameplay: The stealth gameplay is as good as it gets because it has the best level design in all of gaming imo and it’s designed to facilitate the stealth gameplay (hiding spots, places to dump bodies, etc). The AI of the enemies is really good compared to most other stealth games because the guards can become hostile from seeing you very easily and from many angles; they aren’t retards like in many other stealth games, especially on higher difficulties. It also lets you complete the game non lethally and without ever getting detected. Not to mention it’s amazing melee combat system which is brutal and lets you play the game as a full blown action-packed hack and slash game. Because of it, doing front up assaults on all enemies is as fun of a playstyle as playing stealthily and the powers/tools the game gives you make it a fully viable playstyle. You can also get really creative with the powers/tools the game gives you (check out StealthGamerBR’s Dishonored videos on Youtube).

Dishonored 2 has the the same gameplay as Dishonored 1 but with a bunch of mechanical tweaks and some different enemy types that you get introduced to later on. Since Emily is a playable character, you get completely different power sets if you choose to play as her which is way better than Corvo’s power set in my opinion because they cater to stealth more than combat and because they’re just so damn cool. (E.g. A domino power that links the fate of enemies so if you kill one or knock one out, the rest will follow simultaneously).

The no.1 difference between Dishonored 1 and 2 is in the art style and atmosphere because it’s set in Karnaca instead of Dunwall (there are still a couple of missions in Dunwall though). The new art style is based off of Southern Europe and Karnaca is a beautiful city compared to the grimy and dirty Dunwall. It has really cool visuals, architecture and culture which is a breath of fresh air after leaving Dunwall. The atmosphere progressively gets creepier and eerier towards the end of the game to take you out of your comfort zone and there are a couple of levels which are creepy af and borderline horror. Just like the first game, each level has different iterations of the game’s art style. Whether you’ll like this change is down to personal preference but I absolutely loved the art style in no.2 to bits. It gave me such strong nostalgia always making me want to play the game again when I hadn’t played it in a while and imo there’s just no better setting to be completely immersed in. Check gameplay out to see how it’s different.

I can fanboy over it all day but you probably won’t know if you’ll like it until you try it out because it’s such a unique game.

Many times I was discovered before I even realized there was somebody around me. You do, later get upgrades (should you choose them) that help alleviate this but it still felt a little annoying. I actually enjoyed the game more when I lowered the difficulty to easy. Another thing that holds the game back is the story. The theory of the story is a lot better than the execution. The story ultimately feels shallow. The beats come to fast without build up and therefore no payoff. It reminds me of GOT Season 8 in that the outline of the story is good but the way it's told falls flat. All that being said I really did enjoy exploring this world. Expand

Played the first DIshonored and I thought it was fine, but nothing I'd replay again after one run. Ok let get it out of the way the melee combat is basic and glitch ridden. Stealth take downs are easier and the powers mostly work ok.

The strength of this game is the exploration factor and figuring out different routes and ways to achieve set goals, maybe? Story starts out a nearly a copy paste of the first games so kind of lazy writing. The VA is polished, but nothing gripping and it just works. Half through the game the drops a lazy villains exposition scene to the heroine in of all places a dream sequence. So yeah cliché and trope out of 10.

The game also started to to drag around the half way mark. Not hunting for every bit currency in each level made me realised I'd missed out on a score of potential upgrades half way in. If I just chose one route and no back tracking or check the other routes I would of had even way less currency, skill points and ability pick ups. So the game kind of forces you to waste time and go off the beaten path for much need fun goodies. Was this game supposed to have MT, because the constant off the beaten track item hunts feels like a grind maybe people would pay to avoid or something?

Initially fun stealth action game that show it's cracks later on. As in wasting the players time with lazy padding to get the fun cool stuff.

Totalmente recomendado!

Dishonored 2 fixes a few of the minor issues that affected the original title, such as the poor AI of the enemies, but in truth it rarely strays far from the template it laid down. Fortunately that template remains very enjoyable and the game offers a selection of, almost playground like, levels for the player to explore and complete using a wide variety of methods.

It might not do anything that the original didn't do but that is still a good sequel and well worth picking up if you enjoyed Dishonored.

Dishonored 2 is a first person exploration stealth game at heart, although you can play it as an all out attack FPS shooter too. For me, I really enjoyed playing stealthily with no killing, exploring every inch of each level, listening to every conversation, talking to every NPC, doing every side activity, reading every lore entry, book, letter I could find. The powers I used playing as Emily were so different and unique than what I remembered last playing as Corvo in Dishonored 1.

Story wise, Dishonored 2 excels in world building and immersion if you take the time to read every lore entry, speak to all NPCs, and piece together the information. If you decide not to do any of these, the main plot is pretty straightforward and simple to follow, not requiring much knowledge of the previous game or the current optional world lore. It allows you to tailor your own narrative experience. I highly recommend taking your time and just lose yourself in the beautiful world of Karnaca.

Graphics are astounding! Hugely improved from Dishonored 1, with everything so intricately designed with a high level of detail. Character faces take on a unique artstyle that will stand the test of time, not going for realism like Uncharted or Horizon but instead a style unique to Arkane studios.

Two specific missions sealed this game for me. You will be mindblown by the genius in design, creativity and innovation of these two levels. I was constantly saying in my head how I absolutely love this game when I was exploring and experiencing the crazy awesomeness of those two levels. I can't believe I missed this game in 2016. I regret not buying the Collector's Edition, that's how enamored and impressed I am by Dishonored 2 in 2018.

If you love games like Bioshock and Deus Ex, play this NOW! Those 2 missions in Dishonoree 2, for me, surpassed anything from any FPS game I've ever played.

Please Arkane Studios, please make Dishonored 3.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The overall quality diverged massively in comparison to its predecessor. Not speaking about graphics, which really fits the vision of Karnaca (even though it's more about level design, carpentery and asset arts), but the gameplay shifted from being in the center of twisted plot to a routine bad-guy hunt in the meaning of: "Sorry, Corvo, but our villain is in another mansion."

The story really is quite mediocre. Like I've seen it a thousand times in low-budget DVD fairy tales my niece used to watch. An evil female comes to falsely retake the throne, capture the real queen and send the hero to the bottom from which he climbs back up to save the day. Really, Arkane?

The graphics orgies really call for being snapshot, however the PS4 version is quite robbed of half of the SSAO effects compared to PC version. The tearing was so bad and painful I really started to suspect my TV going bad. And 30 FPS with modified idTech5 engine? Laughable.

After 27 hours of doing the same over and over made me look for another source of amusement, no matter how the story really ends. A script error in Grand Palace level, which turned last 3 hours in vain sealed the fate of this game for me.

I was looking forward to the sequel of magnificent Dishonored, which revealed the beauty and fun of solve-it-as-you-like games, but this new adventure carries the stigma of majority of Bethesda's recent AAA titles - polished emptiness.

It sure is a good game but not brilliant. I liked it somewhat and i appreciate the art style but honestly it's kinda boring after a couple of hours. And no, i don't think it's a perfect stealth game. It's good for sure but i don't really get the hype around the series.

Gameplay - 7.5 (the same Dishonored).
Screenplay - 4 (primitive story which copies the first game).
Graphics - 6 (it looks like i play the game of 2013, not critical, but the impression of the game changes).

    Overall - 6

Nothing new, but when there is absolutely nothing to play you can try.

A sequel with great ideas and moments, but a sequel that doesn't do much else. It's kind of boring at times, its got a uninteresting story and characters. It just feels bland.

I played as Emily and went with a no kill run.

    Pros:
    - Cool that you can play as two different characters with different powers
    - The powers were just fun to use
    - The clockwork level was awesome
    - Great stealth overall

    Cons:
    - The load times killed this game for me, coulda been epic
    - Personally I think the setting is too dreary

Despite a handful of minor issues, then, and occasionally patchy framerates in particularly busy areas, Dishonored 2 is consistently remarkable. [Jan 2017, p.102]
