    Digimon Survive is a visual novel/SRPG hybrid. It's a bit darker than other Digimon games, but what really makes this game not so fun is the fact that all the characters talk in circles. You go on for hour and hours with very little story progress. It doesn't help that some of the characters are extremely unlikeable. As for the SRPG portion, it really sucks that all enemies start off theDigimon Survive is a visual novel/SRPG hybrid. As for the SRPG portion, it really sucks that all enemies start off the battle being very far from you which means every battle is just mindlessly moving forward for a bunch of turns. The Digimon capture mechanic is fine but very flawed; the type of Digimon you can capture is affected by your alignment. Speaking of your alignment, it only actually affects gameplay (what Agumon Digivolves into to) and affects story very little. I've made choices that were opposite to where the story was heading only for the story to not acknowledge my choice at all. It also had a lame amnesia plot going on too. If you came across a boy who looks exactly the way you did when you were that age, how do you not recognize that? That's a dumb plot twist right there.… Expand

    Un buon gioco per gli amanti dei Digimon, non per tutti ma saprà regalarvi diverse emozioni con una bella storia, un cast caratterizzato alla grande e tanti Digimon!
    Si, è soprattutto una visual novel, ma hai la possibilità di combattere quando vuoi dopo il prologo, quindi il gameplay c'è eccome.

    I'm really surprised by the positive reviews for this when this game seems to be lacking in almost every department:
    - Story - it's okay, nothing really exciting. The plot could probably be summarised in a few sentences. And somehow it takes 30 hours to finish this. It gets better in latter chapters but still, the battle system itself is very simple. But the "slowing down" doesn't apply just to the battle system. A lot of times during the story you are forced to take part in mundane battles, because you need to "save" each character in the group one by one. It makes the game very tedious.
    - Presentation - I like the art style, but I was expecting better animations during battles.
    All in all, Digimon Survive is... ok, but because of how tedious the gameplay is, the experience is more frustrating than enjoyable. Also, the tactical RPG part is just weak. I hope developers will at least learn from it.    … Expand

    The story is very good, but it is so long cause it have a lot of filler, it could be 15 hours instead of 30 whitout all the filler, and it would be more enjoyable.

    The combat system is horrible, but there is barely 20 combats in whole game, so its not a big problem, and whit x3 speed the combat its not that slow at least.     I've played all Digimon games released so far. This game is like a side game. You know, the big and expected game will come out after 1 month and it looks like it will come out as a warm-up before it(but it isn't). Digimon has never been a VISUAL NOVEL game, at least until now. I finished the game and it has a really good story and illustrations however there is very little action.     Let me explain what I mean with an example. Imagine that you celebrate your birthday every few years. For this special day, you always asked for the birthday cake from the patisserie you order. You took the cake box to the table and when you opened it, only one biscuit came out. When you called the bakery, they said "they are same" BUT IT ISN'T

    I'm 26 hours in and the game is still boring. The battles are way too easy and not fun. The story is pretty cliche and It tries to be interesting but it fails to do so. It's not English voice acted. If you like Digimon just get any other Digimon game. This one is not worth $60. Wait till it flops and buy it for $20, but don't spend any more on it than that.

A lot of folks focus on the idea that somehow this game is great as long as you recognize that it's a visual novel, but that's simply not the case. Not to say it's bad either, it's just a very middle of the road title. In all honesty, the story and characters are enjoyable, which is obviously a big plus for this sort of game. The5/10 if you don't care about Digimon, 7/10 if you do. A lot of folks focus on the idea that somehow this game is great as long as you recognize that it's a visual novel, but that's simply not the case. Not to say it's bad either, it's just a very middle of the road title. In all honesty, the story and characters are enjoyable, which is obviously a big plus for this sort of game. The presentation is also very easy on the eyes, with expertly drawn artwork, a mild amount of animations, and great looking Digimon rigs in battle. Some people may see the number of available Digimon and be disappointed when comparing to games with larger rosters, but the scope and progression of the game really make that a non-issue, the number of Digimon units you can recruit and evolve feels just right. However, where the game begins to lose points is in the gameplay itself, both the visual novel and tactics gameplay. Starting with the battles, there is absolutely nothing new brought to the table here. If you've played a strategy game on the PS1, then you know exactly what you are getting into. Maps are big but units don't always have movement options to account for that, so you can end up sending 4-5 turns just trying to reach an opponent, or more if said opponent is programmed to just run to the far corner of the map. It's pretty uninteresting overall, especially when playing on lower difficulty levels. I hear some people say that auto-battle makes that a non-issue, but if the preferred way to play a game is to not play it at all, then there is likely something wrong here. Similar to games like Fire Emblem, you can attempt to recruit opponents depending on the battle type, though this process is very tedious, and begs you to just use a guide. Whether you have the chance to recruit depends on whether you guess the right answers to 3 questions, with the mediocre translation making your responses nonsensical at times (a running theme in the game). Not that it matters, as there is absolutely nothing to indicate what the correct answer should be, it's a complete guess if this is your first time hearing that enemy give that question. Even if you do get every answer right, you can still lose out on recruiting simply because you only have a percentage chance to be successful, depending your character's current alignment, so some Digimon will always just be more difficult to get depending on the route you are attempting to take.

    Battles of course are only a third of the equation, possibly less depending on how you play. The game is first and foremost a visual novel and it really likes to draw that out. The scenarios exist largely to waste your time, as it can take a significant amount of time for anything meaningful to happen. Characters waste time repeating information constantly, and not just single sentences. A perfect example is chapter 4, where the exact same 5-minute situation plays out at least 3 times, with no progression of any kind, followed by the most drop-dead uninteresting exploration I've ever experienced. It's clear they were really trying to include gameplay elements for the sake of simply including gameplay elements, but these portions of the game would have been MORE interesting without needless player interaction. Meanwhile for cases where player choice does matter, the localization is once again very hit and miss, making it sometimes difficult to choose an answer you would actually agree with. The free-time segments are probably where the visual novel aspect shines, as despite the confusing translation, you generally do end up at least getting to know the characters better.

    All of these complaints are mostly harmless, but they do add up to make an experience that isn't by any means new or interesting. There are much better visual novels, there are much better tactics games, go play those instead if you haven't. If you really like Digimon (which I do), then you may at least find value in this being an enjoyable Digimon narrative.    … Expand

    Story driven digimon game, it is a tad slow but if you take the time to invest yourself into the world and the characters it is quite compelling. Combat is pretty good and team building can be fun. Lots of digimon to collect as well

    The battle system is solid, but until Chapter 9 the difficulty is non-existent even in Hard Mode. The characters are interesting, but there are times when some of them become unbearable (I used to love Minoru, but there's a part in the game that makes you want to punch him in the face).     This is not a game of choices, the choices only serve to determine the evolutions of Agumon, increase affinity and to choose which of the routes to follow in chapter 8. The choices do not change anything in the events, they have no weight.

    New Game+, when the conditions are met to catch the true ending, it has some changes already before the division of routes, but it suffers a lot for not adopting a different story when the script makes room for it. Several actions characters perform during normal gameplay seem to no longer make sense with the new context in which the story finds itself. For example, the disagreement between Minoru and Falcomon doesn't make any sense in the Thrutful Route

    The Wrathful Route is quite disappointing in the sense that Takuma doesn't turn into the anti-hero as imagined.

    The game in general is good, but it's far from perfect. Especially the True Ending, it seems that the writers were too lazy to write it.    … Expand

    Visual Novels haven't really clicked with me in the past. So I decided too give this game a shot. Overall with my 4hr of play so far I'm enjoying the story. Really give me vibe of the original series. Combat feel good, but how the menus and navigation could been better. Hopefully I have this bet this week. Then I well update my score.

    I know this type of novel is a great deal in Japan and people actually like it but I think we were expecting something more action/RPG oriented.

    Gameplay is very shallow and simple, the RPG aspect could have been explored in a better way.
    It's a graphic novel disguised as a game, so there's a lot of reading to do between the few playable moments, and in my personal opinion, the story could be better.

    This game is a VISUAL NOVEL it literally says that. Many other reviews are ignoring that. Story telling wise, this is digimon at its peak. Seriously one of the best visual novels out there. This is aimed at older audiences or long term fans. The strategy gameplay is great, only cons to this game is that there's no English voice acting and that there's no online.

    As far as Visual novels go this is such a solid experience and a great game, Bandai Namco was open from the start that this was a visual novel, people are actually review bombing this cause it’s a genre they don’t like, it’s the same thing as giving Mario Kart a 0 because it has too much racing

    One of the most boring and tedious games I've ever had the misfortune to play, the game is 80% scripts and dialogue, and not exactly a entertaining dialogue.
    The characters are simply poorly written, and while the RPG system has potential, it's completely wasted.

Digimon Survive has more animation, better character writing and more engaging lines than in almost any other contemporaryAs you may have noticed, Digimon Survive has been getting review bombed here compared to other review sites like Steam or Backloggd. Ignore the 0/10 spammers. The marketing made it clear the game would be mostly a visual novel and it absolutely delivers on that front. Digimon Survive has more animation, better character writing and more engaging lines than in almost any other contemporary visual novel. On top of that a good 40% to 50% of the game is solid SRPG goodness with over 113 possible Digimon to get, which is exceptional variety in this genre.     Keep in mind this is a visual novel and something different Digimon has done before. It's such a great story for a VN and a fun battle system. It does start a little slow but once it gets in gear, hold on tight.

    Digimon Survive is a Isakai Horror Mystery Visual Novel Fire Emblem monster collection game that is definitely not for young children with choices that lead to a branching story like until Dawn. You will love some characters amd hate others as you try to survive in this crazy and gritty world where Characters can die or be driven insane inside a world that os of a mix of the upside down inDigimon Survive is a Isakai Horror Mystery Visual Novel Fire Emblem monster collection game that is definitely not for young children with choices that lead to a branching story like until Dawn. You will love some characters amd hate others as you try to survive in this crazy and gritty world where Characters can die or be driven insane inside a world that os of a mix of the upside down in stranger things amd the island in Lost. The story is very deep and well written an pays almage to past Digimon Anime. It's not the type of game you wanna get if your a story skipper there's maybe 5 hours of gameplay if you skip story and dont do any of the extra or monster collection. I find myself trying to hurry thru gameplay sometimetes so i can get back to the story amd see what happens next. In my opinion it's atleast a solid 9.5 but imma give it a 10 to help offset all those 0 that this game doesn't deserve.… Expand

    I loved my time with Digimon Survive. The game is a Visual novel with a heavy amount of visual novel and light amount of gameplay. Early on the gameplay is very fun but late game and NG+ it becomes a repetitive time with no challenge. Survive shines with it's story. A Dark Twisted take on Digimon, Survive will have you rethinking your choices and fighting to Survive

    Don't know why people are angry because the game IS what the developers promised to be, it has a great story line, good 2D animations , music and story plot that's heavily inspired by Digimon Adventure 1999 , which is a very positive thing that no other Digimon game managed to capture.     The game is more of a visual novel than a tactics game so if that's not your thing then you may want to skip this one, that being said I really enjoyed the story and the characters. I really hope they make more games like this one.

    Decisions and deaths is the scoop of this visual novel, but is a fallacy. Events occur by default regardless of the player's decisions or parameters they have obtained.
    Always in your 1st game certain characters will die with their digimon and certain characters will live, even if you send them to the battlefield as a sacrifice.
    So it seems that the only real decision is to buy this    Decisions and deaths is the scoop of this visual novel, but is a fallacy. Events occur by default regardless of the player's decisions or parameters they have obtained.
    Always in your 1st game certain characters will die with their digimon and certain characters will live, even if you send them to the battlefield as a sacrifice.
    So it seems that the only real decision is to buy this title or not.

    Most of the characters have cartoon personalities and do not make decisions that a human would make in reality and it doesn't feel like a mature story at all, but the death scenes can be disturbing for the little so I don't understand what audience it could be directed.

    For other part, Takuma doesn't compl as a character or as an avatar, and it's hard to connect with him. There is no female lead character as in the case of Cyber ​​Sleuth or Next Order.

    Regarding the story, it is poorly worked and the translations in parts are poorly done.
    I feel that 4 years gave them time to think well about the plot, but not respected the basic concept of digimon (digital beings) and treated them as ghosts/spirits.
    The twist of the story is not surprising at all, many events are too predictable, which makes the story feel heavy, for taking so long on something obvious.

    Regarding the SRPG, it is an interesting proposal but still green, however, it has potential.

    The balance between digimon does not exist, and some have a clear preferentialism and others have been very disadvantaged.

    The price for what it offers is not correct.

    I would say that it greatly influences how you get along with the characters influences whether you like the title or not, so if you do not check the deaths and survivors you can run into an unpleasant disappointment of the title, as I said the deaths are default and unavoidable.
    And I mention it because if you dislike both characters that will survive in all the routes, the game becomes torture for completed and can access to NG+...    … Expand

    This is an amazing game, if you like visual novels, darks stories, or digimon, you will probably like this game. The visual novel aspects are beautifully done and the combat is good. It's roughly 70% dialogue and 30% combat, so be mindful of that before you purchase this game (note: you can do infinite free battles if you want more combat and you can save at almost any time.)

    Probably the best Digimon story and the best Digimon game, too. Yeah, it's primarily a visual novel, but it's very mechanically deep for one and they were incredibly clear about what it was for years before the game came out. Definitely would recommend it to anyone interested in the series or interested in especially polished visual novels.

Sin apenas publicidad, sin reseñas ni aportaciones de la prensa, con un lanzamiento simultáneo al de Xenoblade 3 y siendo un juego atrasado mas de dos años... casi parecía que la propia Bandai quisiera ocultar el juego a los usuarios, lo cual podría hacer pensar a cualquiera que el juego iba a ser un enorme desastre. Sin ir mas lejos, personalmente creo que Digimon Survive es un juego que aporta mas cosas positivas que negativas, siendo una visual novel entretenida y, lo mas importante para mi, sorprendente a nivel de madurez para lo que podría esperarse en una aventura de digimon (aunque he de reconocer que es mi primer juego de la franquicia).

    Si pasamos directamente al análisis del juego, Digimon Survive es una visual novel no muy compleja ni elaborada, donde tenemos 3 posibles caminos y uno oculto para el cual no es necesario haber desbloqueado los otros antes. El camino que tomamos está marcado por el tipo de decisiones por las que optamos durante la aventura y que están diferenciadas por colores (decisiones morales, iracundas o armoniosas). En base al número de cada una de ellas que acumulemos llegados a ciertos momentos, se nos presentarán, o no, ciertas decisiones que marcarán las difererentes rutas. Hay que decir que el juego está totalmente traducido al castellano, algo que no sucedía en la franquicia desde hace bastantes entregas.

    La 1a partida está dirigida a impactar y lo consigue con creces, con una banda sonora que no destaca especialmente pero que, en los momentos de tensión, consigue ponerte los pelos de punta. El sistema de combate es un sistema de turnos muy clásico y desarrollado sobre una cuadrícula (similar a un triangle strategy, FF Tactics, etc.). Personalmente considero que el combate cumple de sobra con lo que propone, de forma sencilla pero tremendamente entretenida. Contamos con mas de 100 digimons jugables y muchas ayudas de calidad de vida (omitir textos, velocidad del combate hasta x3, etc.). La duración media de cada historia la estimaría mas o menos en torno a las 15 horas, siendo el final verdadero algo mas largo. Como referencia, he necesitado 40 horas para el platino, aunque de no hacerse ciertos guardados en momentos puntuales podría extenderse varias horas mas.

    En definitiva, Digimon Survive no es una revolución dentro del género de las visual novels pero cumple con creces todos los objetivos que se propone. Con una historia sorprendentemente adulta, un combate simple pero entretenido, muchas ayudas de calidad de vida y una banda sonora que, por momentos, consigue poner los pelos de punta a cualquiera... Digimon Survive es un juego que personalmente considero de notable y que ha sido una muy buena apertura de entrada al resto de juegos de la franquicia.    … Expand

    I enjoy the game for what it is -- a visual novel with tactics-esque battles and a darker, mature story compared to pokemon.
    With more polish on both the storyline and battle system, this could have been a total home run.
    I truly appreciate them trying something different and enjoyed the playthroughs.

    En cuanto a la historia y esto puede ser a causa de la traducción al español, he encontrado alguna laguna o diálogos que no se profundizan cuando la información que dan son para ello, posponiendo conversaciones para después que a mi parecer no tiene sentido pero claro, la trama debe continuar.
    También a la hora de las elecciones, cuesta ver por dónde va a tirar la conversación con las respuestas que dan, también puede ser un error de traducción, un fallo de mi comprensión lectora o de este tipo de juegos o no sé, simplemente muchas veces el diálogo después de la respuesta no me cuadra mucho. Pero poco más, solo por esto le pongo un 9 al juego.
    Si te gustan las novelas visuales, te gustan los juegos del estilo fire emblem y persona, este es tu juego pero te tienen que gustar por igual porque el juego ya se dijo en su momento que iba a ser 70% novela visual y 30% combates, así que LEED bien antes de comprar y disfrutad el juego.

    What did people expect when they buy this game? It's a visual novel and not a shooter, the story is great with some unexpected turns. The most negative "reviews" are the ones that don't know what they buy, they would cry when they buy a book because it has words in it.

This makes every decision one you think about as you never know exactly what a character may or may not like, and the same with the capturable digimon.
    For those that enjoyed fire emblem 3 houses, consider this a lite version set in a digimon inspired universe, and you'll have a great time.

It's refreshingly raw for the Digimon franchise and goes to some unexpectedly dark places in the storytelling.

    Finished chapter 6, so far the game is great, really good script mixed with good tactics battles.

    Dont listen to the review bombs. They are upset about it not matching the earliest marketing concept statements (kind of). If you've paid any attention to the game closer to release you would know it is a visual novel with battles and if you bought it without knowing that, it is very much you're own fault for not looking into what you are buying as it was very easy to find info.     The story is great. Love the Bioware-esque consequence system. People complaining about genre should just go back and play that kind of game if that's what they're looking for.

    Not a huge fan of visual novels, but I like this. Digimon are cool, combat is fun enough, and I like the characters.

    A great story and fun gameplay. I rarely play VISUAL NOVEL games but I took a dive because it's Digimon. I was very surprised to explore the lore and a different take on the series.

    What is supposed to be a kids show turn out to be very mature. I am only in part 5 but I am enjoying ever aspect of this game. The story is very good with the branching paths and of course the RPG    A great story and fun gameplay. I rarely play VISUAL NOVEL games but I took a dive because it's Digimon. I was very surprised to explore the lore and a different take on the series.

    The story is very good with the branching paths and of course the RPG gameplay is really up my alley by being able to train, evolve and befriend various MONs. I can't wait to assemble an unbeatable team

    Digimon Survive is a wonderful blend of visual novel, tactical rpg, and mystery games. It does a wonderful job of blending multiple mechanics in a way that is unique and helps drive the story forward. This game is absolutely amazing in the way it takes choice based story telling to a new level with their combat system. If you enjoy a game with a deep enriching story that you can playDigimon Survive is a wonderful blend of visual novel, tactical rpg, and mystery games. This game is absolutely amazing in the way it takes choice based story telling to a new level with their combat system. If you enjoy a game with a deep enriching story that you can play through multiple times, this is the game for you! The mechanics of the game are easy to learn too, so anyone can get into it, even if you’ve never played a game like it before.     Although its east to miss the dizzy heights of the Cybersleuth series, it's to be applauded in what has been attempted here and with an easily accessible series, will convert even the most hardened hater of visual novels. With the superb presentation and the relaxed approach, many Digi-destined (which sounds way better than trainers too) will be happy for the series to continue in this style of digi-volution.

    The story in Digimon Survive is an example of why fans of Digimon flock to the series. Fans enjoy the themes of the series presents to fans about the pressures of growing up. While the gameplay in this outing is limited and lacking in complexities when compared to its predecessors. As a visual novel, it more than holds up as a Digimon anime entry and is a great game that any Digimon fan could enjoy.
