And that, in a nutshell, is the perfect descriptor for Devil May Cry HD Collection: torture. I don’t know what your memories may be telling you about these games from 10-15 years ago, but I can tell you that if you play them now, it’s likely to leave you wondering how they could have become so beloved in the first place. If you have fond memories, keep them there, rather than allowing them to become sullied by this hideous abomination.

The most overrated hack and slash franchise is back with their well known awful combo mechanics.

Maybe this is just a very bad port of these games but I will never understand how these games are deemed as some of the best hack and slash games of all time when they are horribly outdated gameplay wise with the exception of 3 being fun at times and the fact that it still looks like a ps2 game in a "remaster" that was supposed to updated the visuals and in some places I swear look even worse than the ps2. I am just sorry maybe if they do a 5th game that actually updates the game to play better than this I will give this franchise another chance but for now avoid this collection and play something like baynonetta if you want a hack and slash game that actual plays well. Some videos are still in low resolution, graphics is something you would get from an emulator, and there's some audio glitches. Also many of the elements in DMC1 was designed around the 4:3 aspect ratio, switching between fixed camera angles doesn't feel natural and is actually more confusing in 16:9. If they want to release DMC1 in 16:9, they should have just remade it or give us a 4:3 option like the Resident Evil 1 Remaster. DMC3 is still the funnest and is probably the only reason to get this collection. Full Review »
