    I am sorry but I don't get it. Maybe this is just a very bad port of these games but I will never understand how these games are deemed as some of the best hack and slash games of all time when they are horribly outdated gameplay wise with the exception of 3 being fun at times and the fact that it still looks like a ps2 game in a "remaster" that was supposed to updated the visuals and inI am sorry but I don't get it.     A very lazy port of an earlier rushed port, just the XB360/PS3 collection with a higher resolution. Some videos are still in low resolution, graphics is something you would get from an emulator, and there's some audio glitches. Also many of the elements in DMC1 was designed around the 4:3 aspect ratio, switching between fixed camera angles doesn't feel natural and is actually moreA very lazy port of an earlier rushed port, just the XB360/PS3 collection with a higher resolution.     story: the fine line that separates comic history and dante's personal tragedy is extraordinarily well done. the games are often based on small cases in the life of the demon hunter that take on enormous proportions until the memorable encounter between the sparda twins.

    Despite the issues this HD Collection has, it´s still a solid option if you wanna play the original Devil May Cry trilogy, if you want all 3 games in one big beefy package then this is what you should be looking for.

    This is mostly gonna be a review of Devil May Cry 3 because I could not really get into the the other ones. God for me Devil May Cry 3 is one of the greatest action games that has been made only surpassed by few others . Thing I can say is that I would like it to be more like the fourth game but that is a silly complaint . And it has one of the best stories in an action game

    I've never played DMCs neither on PS2 nor PS3. I bought HD collection (3 games at the price of 1) and played. At first I was sure I wasted my money.. but... I believe DMC1 is awesome. It's am amazing throwback to the oldschool games (Metal Gear Solid, God of War etc) with pretty linear but half-open worlds (like 1st mgs), hard bosses, stages. I cant wait to play 2, 3 and 5.     if you ever want to revisit the dmc games on ps2, this is the perfect collection for it (please dont play DMC2). also to mention the load times are basically non-existent which means you dont have to wait 3 years for a stage to load.

    Devil May Cry: I personally didn't like this one. It was easy to traverse the different areas and exploring was fun to do but the gameplay and camera aren't good at all. The camera came from (as many already know) Resident Evil 4 as Devil May Cry was a prototype for it. However, that doesn't mean it has dated well AT ALL. The gameplay isn't any better with it being really slow and enemies being really fast doesn't help. Some bosses (such as the first boss) will spam fireballs at you and it can take away half your health! Speaking of, finding extra health can be a pain as well and if you haven't been looking around throughout the levels to find some health, you're in for a bad time. The story overall is generic too but I guess it holds true where most Devil May Cry fans don't come for the story and only for the hardcore gameplay. Oh and for the music... it was pretty good for the first game of the series.

    Devil May Cry 2: This one is... odd for me because it IS a game and I don't think it's that bad of a game either. Every DMC fan will say this game is garbage and yes it is weaker than the first game but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a bad game. That being said, it is a disappointing sequel. Enemies rarely attack you, you can beat the game without using the sword, the plot makes you think there was supposed to be a Devil May Cry 1.5 or something to tie in what happened and why Dante has suddenly become Shadow the Hedgehog, and the bosses can be underwhelming too (one being particularly cheap). However, the music here was pretty good as well, nothing memorable but still good and having two characters you can play as was a fun idea too even though you just go through the same levels forward and backward.

    Devil May Cry 3: Dante Awakening: Now... I want to get this out of the way saying the music, plot, and characters are absolutely AMAZING. Everything is memorable for the right reasons and that is how it should always be with this series. That being said, this game is HARD. I think fighting regular enemies is fine and even fun but the bosses... Oh boy. These bosses can be a mix of difficulty and just flat out cheap in some of the things they do. One boss fires projectiles at you and there is no way to dodge unless you have Royal Guard equipped and even then, you need to be perfect with it or you get hurt and these bosses can easily drain your health to nothing. I should mention that the camera angles did get better with this one, probably because of the more open areas compared to the first game.

    Overall, the HD Collection gets a 5/10 from me. I personally won't be going back to any of these games unless they get remastered (or in DMC2's case remade). There are good things in each of these games such as the music and characters but other than that, these games didn't age that well.    … Expand

The 1080p upgrade, 60 fps and amazingly quick load times only ensure that this is the best possible version of this collection. Never have I felt like such a badass in a video game, aside from God of War and Ninja Gaiden which were both heavily influenced by this series.     The only detractor from the overall score would be because of Devil May Cry 2, which is easily the weakest game in this franchise, and yes that includes the DmC reboot (a game that was far better than this one). This game undoubtedly became one of the worst sequels of all time, if not THE worst. It was handed off to a completely different development team and it shows. The game itself is entirely playable and even challenging at times, but it lacked all the style, flair and finesse of the 1st and 3rd games. The reboot was also light years ahead of this game and was actually a very well made entry into the DMC canon.

    The 1st DMC is what started it all but most would say DMC3 is the crowned jewel of the series. The ability to switch play styles, the sheer amount of devil arms, and the option of playing as Dante's brother Vergil made this a stunning game with a wealth of replay value. It's a toss up between the 1st & 3rd as to which game is harder but the 3rd game definitely offers more content. A fantastic game which gave an interesting back-story as a prequel to the 1st.

    This collection is certainly a must have for die-hard fans and newcomers alike. My favorite game series ever and one that I feel every gamer should give a chance. $30 for 2 of the greatest games ever made and a somewhat average sequel is an excellent deal. Let's rock!    … Expand

    All of these games are enjoyable, with DMC2 being controversial. However these remakes are an insult to our PS4s. The graphics have barely changed, and in some places are worse. This is more of a port than a remaster.

    On a side note I do hope they eschew the punishing combo system in future iterations.

    Avoid. Stick to the PS2 versions.

    Look, it is almost identical to the ps3 HD collection we got years ago. If you are a fan of the franchise or have never played them before then this is your best chance to experience these games. I am a huge fan of DMC but for people who have never played them before it is not exactly easy to tell them "yeah pick up a ps2 and find the originals" most people don't have the older hardware.Look, it is almost identical to the ps3 HD collection we got years ago.     This is a collection more for new players than it is fans expecting some sort of new life breathed into their favorite games..
    This was my first time playing through these games and they hold up.

    Really great collection, with maybe the exception of Devil May Cry 2.

    Load times are SUPER fast compared to the previous HD collection and default Devil May Crys on the PS2.

    Overall im a huge fan of the dmc series, no doubt returning to the original trilogy also on the ps4 makes it a hell of entertainment. Though the game feels so outdated, but im sure that their working on a sequel (while im writing this a day after the release of the collection) and they want to get old fans and possibly new comers patched up for the series again.     Only one game in this trilogy is worth a playthrough and you can buy it seperatly so I recommend buying the third one because there is no point the the other two because of their dull gameplay and acting but the third game is a masterpiece.

    Capcom calls this an "HD Collection" but the games are still in their original 4:3 format instead of 16:9 HD widescreen. There are very minor touch-ups to environments and character models, so much of the PS2 quality is still there. This coincides with Capcom’s apparent new business model of building up hype for a game to be amazing and delivering the players a half-assed game that does little to nothing to please their fanbase within modern standards. An “HD Collection” running CG cutscenes in their original 480i resolution from the PS2 is a slap in the face. There are no new features added to any of the games other than an art gallery. There’s no option for online co-op, no time trials, no leader scoreboards, nothing. This collection is nothing more than a very slightly polishing of three PS2 games that have remapped controls.

    The gameplay that originally made the games astonishing is still there, but it was not improved on in any way. The good thing is that DMCHDC still has that kick ass and look awesome doing it feeling, but I was expecting more out of Capcom. I was hoping that this wouldn’t be another Street Fighter 5 launch, but it is. The good thing is that because there’s no online options at all in DMCHDC, there’s no risk of a repeat of Monster Hunter World’s connection hell (details can be seen on Monster Hunter World’s twitter page).

    The audio is still the original stereo quality. The music doesn’t even have a new arrangement. The voice acting is the same as on the PS2, so don’t expect anything new there either. At least the music is still good enough to get you to accept that it hasn’t been touched at all.

    Overall, I’d suggest that the game is worth a PS+/XBOX Live discount, but don’t give Capcom their asking price for it.    … Expand

    It's just a port of the PS3/360 ports, which is really just the PS2 games with five more pixels added and an art gallery.
    Everything else is the same, but the games are still good.

    This is a good collection of remastered games. I recommend playing Devil May Cry 1 and Devil May Cry 3 (DMC2 doesn't worth it). I had a good time with those games who are the ancestors of similar games like God of War or Darksiders. I found the remasters a bit lazy though as I wasn't impressed by the graphics. For Devil May Cry 3, you can play in 16:9 screen format but not in Devil May CryThis is a good collection of remastered games.     It's a pretty solid and economic port. I would have liked the adittion of checkpoints during the missions from the first game but still it isn't a harsh game.

    It does what it says. It's the HD collection of the first three. Just cutscenes weren't rescaled and DmC2 crashes if you are on desktop and try to alt+tab.

    these games didnt age very well. doesnt really help that the port to ps4 wasnt great either

    Just making a review to point at the obvious thing people seem to miss; a remaster is not a remake, this is literally called "HD COLLECTION", not "REMAKE COLLECTION".

    I bought this game to be able to play again the 3 I had played so many years ago and I decided to play from the 1 since it was available.
    The Disappointment was huge with 1 and 2. I don't even say about graphics and heavier gameplay compared to 3, but with the story I also found it very weak lol. The intro of 3 entertained me more than all the cutscenes of 1 and 2.

    Of course this is an opinion, but I saw so many criticisms of 4 when it launched that when I look at 1 and 2 I don't know what I was being compared to...

    Now to talk about 3, I have practically no criticisms.
    The story / custscenes are very engaging, well done and I think it's practically a miracle with what was possible on the ps2. The gameplay is very good and for those who like platinum it's nothing absurd to do.

    Capcom's old demons are back and are giving us a weak and technically outdated port of a 2012 port, which at the time already featured three PlayStation 2 games.

    The games are still relatively competently made and the first and third entries stand out as pinnacles of the Hack-n-Slash genre, but the overt lack of care that has been afforded to this collection makes me reticent to recommend it to all except those who possibly haven’t experienced the series yet and are curious to see what all the fuss is about.
