I was super hyped for the game, and even though I never buy preorders I did this time. I can't believe how sequel to a game as good as human revolution can be as bad as this one. The game is ridiculously short (shorter than any uncharted episode), story is bland and everything is just not enough. Seriously, wtf?!

It's a pile of dung. I had buyers remorse 3 hrs into it. Story dumb .... controls and upgrades way more complicated then they need to be. Not a fan. This is coming from an rpg junkie. I paid 60$ for the download and forced myself to finish the game. The further i progressed hoped for it to become enjoyable but nah it just became more and more annoying . Not for me I guess.

The rest of us just laugh and play the truly engaging political narratives, like MGS Twin Snakes and Killer7. Human Revolution really didn't offer much that better games hadn't already done much better, but even without being compared to the competition I found HR to be extremely underwhelming, with far too much exposition that never really led anywhere interesting.

I'm sad to say that Mankind Divided has failed to deliver once more, and actually takes several steps back in some ways, particularly where the stealth is involved. In HR, you could feel that the devs tried really hard to make the stealth rewarding and fun, even if it didn't quite work, but MK decided to take the Dead Space 3 approach and throw out everything that could have made the game fun and take a more action oriented approach. It's extremely disappointing to see the devs distance themselves from the one thing I found moderately enjoyable from the last game.

I haven't thought about Human Revolution's story since I played the game back when it came out for the best console released this generation, the Wii U, but the fact that I can't recall anything that happened in that game really speaks to it's quality as a narrative. It simply doesn't have interesting protagonists or ideas. And mind you, I personally love the idea of making corporate espionage into an interesting game narrative, but HR failed to deliver any sort of interesting, memorable characters or moments. So I'm sad to say I'm not sure if i would describe MD as 'worse' when I can barely remember what happened in the first game. Again, it's nothing all that interesting, but it's not downright offensive like an AC game or Other M.

Mankind Divided is nothing more than just another lackluster release for thirsty fans to pretend that the PS4 is still getting games, when clearly the focus is on the NEO in the foreseeable future.

A terrible game, there seems to be no GEP gun. There is also a lack of J.C. Denton and his amazing voice acting that makes Adam Jensen pale in comparison.

I've always been a big fan of how Deus Ex prefers for you to play stealth. Mankind Divided disappointed me however as it made me a stealth God and I'm sure its the same if you were going in shooting everything as well. While I love the gameplay, even on the hardest difficultly level, the game was way too easy. I only died a handful of times and that was mostly to some trial and error parts of the game.
I can sorta forgive easy gameplay but not a bland story. The ending of the first game, and I mean the very end where you select what to do to give you one of 3 choices, might as well have never happened. From the end of the 1st game to the beginning of the second, there's quite a bit of down time that's not very well explained and the devs should have spent more time on what exactly happened. But beyond that, the main story of this game was majorly bland. The open world that came with it was decent but a bit too claustrophobic and it seemed like they were more interested in finding ways to connect buildings with some sort of duct or sewer then building a world that was in-depth. It's not the worst I've ever seen but it could have used alot of work to make it better.
All of this goes along with the massive framerate issues I had and the multiple crashes I suffered while playing the game. Now having properly set up for a 3rd game, it felt like the developers were stuck with the ending of the first game and tried their best to make it work with a very clear idea of what was going on in the story. I don't exactly agree with half of the stuff that was being implied by what was going on but I can give them credit for trying to tie the game into some of the social problems our society faces in real life.
In the end, I would say I had fun with the game but it's nowhere near as good as the first one. Lots of unexplained questions, lots of characters that were clearly just in the game to introduce them for the next one, and the poor marketing campaign that Squeenix did for it, leaves me wanting more. They definitely have alot of ground to cover for the 3rd game but the basics of a great game as still there. They just really need to get away with some of the design choices from this one when they do that.

Side characters are impersonal and you won't get connected with them. For me it seems devs took the lazy way this time in many aspects. For example every building you enter in Prague looks the same, sometimes there are some small variations, but the layout is always the same. Besides that the main story is way too short, there is no comparison to Human Revolution. The only good thing is the game mechanic which is still thrilling, as before you have many ways to approach quests, we still have all the interesting augs + some new ones and some side stories are really compelling. So still 7 points from me, but I would wait until the price drops, at the current stage it is not worth the price content-wise. Expand

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided's trailers intrigued me in a way that made me overlook the fact that I never played a Deus Ex game. Not that I had any problems with Deus Ex, it just never seemed like a game I would have been into. For me though, the draw of most open world games to me is exploration. Something I feel Mankind Divided did not have. Sure, you can go other places and walk around freely and it looks incredible! There just wasn't enough mystery or lore to keep me interested. I read hundreds of e-mails and texts but after a while it made me feel like I was at work so I got out of the habit of doing that. The game play has it's decent loop. Level up to add more enhancements, but after a while and finally getting the enhancements, it made things way to easy. To remedy this I would give myself guidelines to follow like: no guns, or nano blades etc. That made it a bit more interesting for me, but still not enough to keep me excited to come back. All in all I went through a little bit of buyers remorse, I probably should have waited to play this one. Expand

I do like how the game lets you approach things either in stealth or action, I've gotten through situations using either, but it definitely feels far more geared toward stealth overall. The mechanics however don't feel quite as fluid as a game like the latest Hitman. In fact the controls are rather clunky and often you find yourself fumbling in urgent situations just to do something simple. The level design is pretty cool in my opinion but the graphics seem fairly outdated. I like the idea of this game a lot more than I like playing it, it's not bad but I think the overload of conversations you have to skim through coupled with clunky controls keep it from being particularly worth recommending unless you're a big fan of this series. Different weapon, ammo and enemy types keep you thinking, and stealth and strategy are still king. The problem is that the story is convoluted and semi-dependent upon side quests, which are very hard to find. You have to sort of stumble into the right NPCs at the right times, and that's pretty hard to figure out. I had no idea what was going on toward the end of the game. Unfortunately the worst part is the end; the final boss is confusingly hard and easy and the encounter will leave you not only underwhelmed, but if there were such a thing, negatively-whelmed.

Still worth playing if you like your Deus Ex gameplay, but you'll probably have to google a story explanation if you want to keep up. Keep your expectations realistic for the final hours as well.

Like every Deus Ex inventory management is a game logic nightmare. Why do some things take so many spaces and items need to stack individually like differing alcohol I will never know? Hacking always annoyed me in all the games (love those multi-tools). I liked using the stealth and secret ways. Combat is ok, but nothing really pulse pounding. The new click to cover system I hardly needed to use, but is a nice option.

The story and characters were not very engaging, but the gameplay and the locals were a fun combo even if a lot restrictive at times. As a Interpol agent it was hard to morally go full criminal murdering robbing stealing scum bag on basically cops and mostly neutral factions. I spent most of the time dealing with people via dull dialogue or just knocking mini hordes of people out with the fun non-lethal bio-charge takedowns. I had a couple of small fire fights with some gangster types, but I mostly knocked those gangster types out. Due to the stealth being so easy to pull of in this game and KO nearly everything going. Game gives you a ton of cool lethal stuff, but Interpol are not murdering robbing stealing psycho’s, so.

Summing up weak story, characters, dialogue, overpowered stealth game play on normal and most of the lethal gear is just plain overkill on normal. Suffers from balancing issues across the board from writing to gameplay for sure. However I still had fun with it and fun is why I game, so.

I was influenced by mainstream opinion, my expectation were very low. Well, thank you haters, because thanks to you I enjoyed the game very ,very, very much.

Adam Jensen was saved in Missing Link, got recruited into TF29, international counter-terrorist organization, simultaneously covertly spying for Juggernaut Collective, hacker group of liberty and truth. Two years passed since the horrendous accident when augmented people went mad and started killing everything on site. Such tragedy result 90% loss of augmented population but, more importantly, created a 74000 km contemp rift between “naturals” and “augs”. Let’s get started - this “racism” theme is the main flaw of DE:MD.

The game is simply overloaded with it. You can’t make a step without overhear, oversee, overplay yet another trite “naturals vs augs” element. The story revolves around apprehending aug revolutioner, the main design concept of Prague (and any other location) is segregation of augs, 70% percent of quests are about misfortunes of augs, and (can you imagine?) 80% percent of all auxiliary information is about the theme. The sheer amount is already ridiculous but what is even more stupid is the realization: antagonization of augs and naturals is narrow-minded, one-sided and corny, straight from the fifth grade textbook.

The second and third flaws of DE:MD are main plot and overall setting caliber. The game is just less grandiose. While in original DE and in HR we had two city-hubs, in MD we will roam Prague for entire game. Prague is awesome but after 20 hours anything becomes tiring and dull. The situation is worsen by the low quests to territory size ratio and unimpressive storyline. It follows a confrontation with typical russian bandit while whole juice of DE series (secret society upturns) is left for next game, which may never be released.

Gameplay a classic free roam, multi-path level system. Adam Jensen can squeeze into ventilation shafts, jump three meters high, smash walls, prance on electricity, savor acid gas, hack locks, falls from five-storey building, convince secretaries to save the world… All these solutions are present in abundance throughout the game! Wherever you want to break into, there are always numerous ways, usually three-four. And places to break into… just wow! Eccentrics’ apartments, garages leading to huge vaults, roofs winding into gang territory, intricate treasure basements, secret rooms, bank riviling Thief 2 counterpart (!). All are supplied with story: in one place reporter came to investigate suspicious company, in other lucky guy won lottery and in third… someone is spying after you! Yes, most of the time it’s exhausting text logs but sometime you may stumble upon quests, all of which are sophisticated and multistage.

Prague is tremendously gorgeous. A breath of fresh air after overused landscapes of futurized cities. The blend of classic european architecture and advanced technology, choice of colors, ambient music - the mood of DE:MD Prague is real and unforgettable. As is the graphics. I played GoW just before MD - not much difference. And considering that MD is first-perspective RPG where you can move and zoom into any piece of garbage… The only downside of MD is character models - there are very limited and identical so don’t surprise to encounter John Doe in multiple quests under different names.

The old aug tree returns with additions. Shoot nano blades, become invincible to physical damage, hack from distance, etc. - all new augs are useful and balanced. So character development is already better than HR (but still worse than in original DE). I will generalize: game is balanced in general. Praxis kits are always too few, ammo is scarce, parts are spent to quickly. Combat is not trivial and interesting: lack of crosshair, realistic feel, smart cover system, tough armored units. Stealth is smart: any task can be resolved via stealth and diplomacy, logical alarm system, plausible AI, usage of noise. Mechanic wise MD is magnificent. If only they removed this unfair favouritism of stealth approach… Like in HR, being sneaky and merciful is still way more profitable (exp) than being killing machine.

I have to finish on sad note. The fourth and last flaw of MD is that it relies too much on players own initiative. Half of playtime I spend on baseless, self-induced sightseeing, not even including quests. But what about people who does not wander into every corner without reason, who does not inspect every spot for 10 minutes? In one word: majority? For such people HR provided dynamic mind-blowing story, regular quests, many locations. And MD, MD will be quite shallow… Can’t argue with that. It’s not a sandbox game, Eidos Montreal, what lies bare is what most will see.

Garbage. Gameplay is hardcore, but loading times are ridiculous. Stealth abilities are useless due to limited energy, and when you fail you get punished by 40 seconds of a dull loading screen. The only way to play is a GoW-style shooter. Except GoW is better at it.

Fortunately the gameplay itself, while not exactly much of a departure from any of its predecessors, is much better. As has always been the case with the series players can pretty much play the game any way they want depending on how they choose to augment (upgrade) their character. Should you want to play it as an out and out FPS for example you can focus on increasing your maximum health and resistance to damage or you can instead improve your hacking skills allowing you to find a way through enemy’s security systems or even turn their own turrets and robots against them. Importantly however, whichever way you choose to play, you always have plenty of options and how best to complete your objective and you’re in for 8-10 hours of entertainment.

Where Human Revolution had a great blend of light RPG mechanics and most importantly, great story, characters, art style and an immersive game world, it was let down by its relatively basic game engine (which was clearly designed for underpowered consoles to run Final Fantasy XIII). As a result, the combat was never quite as polished as it could've been and the graphics were dull. Mankind Divided, with its state-of-the-art Dawn engine and frequent presence in benchmarks should surely then make what was an already brilliant game into a near-perfect one. Has it? Clearly not.

Let me start by saying that Mankind Divided does indeed look and play better than Human Revolution in terms of its mechanics and combat, but not by a significant amount. The character models, UI, cover system and experimental augs are cool. However as with the previous game, the problem is that the game's achievements discourage combat. Whilst playing the game stealthily is fun, the augmentations and weapons make no difference here, you may as well have an inventory only of biocells for going invisible and tranquilizer and stun gun. The game is litered with loot items - far more than you could ever need or make use of. If like me you explore every nook and cranny and check it over multiple times just to be sure, you're going to be astounded by how much stuff is lying around. When you do engage in combat, the game's RPG nature makes it awkward because you have to have painkillers or health stims as well as useful weapons and augs mapped to convenient keys.

What really kills any purpose of the improvements in this area is the lack of bosses. I can accept going through the game in a stealthy manner but when I save up all the good stuff in my inventory I want a chance to use it at some point in boss fights. Unfortunately there is really only one boss fight right at the end of the game, the others are just "mini-bosses" in side quests which you may or may not encounter depending on how you play it. Which brings me on to my next point: the story. It seems that with Mankind Divided, they put more effort into the side quests than the main missions! Whilst Human Revolution had a healthy mix of main and side missions with meaningful choices and rewards which added to the immersion, Mankind Divided's story and side quests don't seem to be quite so cohesive, espeically the main story. Despite playing for around 50-60 hours on my first run, it feels much shorter and far less eventful than Human Revolution. There are too many loose ends, unanswered questions and overall a lack of clear direction. Then there's that infamous abrubt ending, where the developers took the laziests possible approach of explaining things through Picus News. Remember those five epic endings and cutscenes which left you with a profound sense of astonishment and moral humility in Human Revolution? Yeah you can forget anything close to being that epic in this game. Even the choices in the main story feel inconsequential. Whilst the game lore is still there, there is no cohesion - you read and hear about characters more than you actually see and interact with them.

Now I expected the story to be disappointing based on the reviews, and even then I finished the game without a sense of satisfaction. The teaser in midst of the credits didn't make matters any better either. Overall I didn't feel like the story had a good flow to it - every part felt distinctly separate. Overall I am disappointed with this sequel. Although Human Revolution set the bar very high, the least I expected was something which is on par but with better graphics. Without a shadow of doubt I can say that Human Revolution is MUCH better. I would only recommend this game if you're really in the mood to jump back into the Deus Ex universe, but don't expect some masterpiece.

Overall, i felt this wasn't as good as Human Revolution, with the 3rd act being quite short. Overall, it didn't have the same impact as the previous entry. However, I would still recommend it for anyone who has enjoyed the first game. I'm looking forward to the next chapter in this universe :)

The illusion of choice amounts to the same options every single time - sneak through an air vent, acquire the key card or all out assault. It's as linear as any game I've played. I have no problem with linear - I love TLOU for example, but even that feels like it has more options. And then the final straw, it's essentially half a game allowing Square Enix to make up time and give us a sequel in 2018. Good bye Deus Ex, I'll spend my money on games that deserve it in future. Passable. But not even close as good as Human Revolution. There was no single vision for this game, so it's a mix of many meh elements: story mode + breach mode + overdrive augs mechanics.

    Cons:
    - Main missions are boring and disconnected. I didn't care for any of the NPCs there because they appear for 5 min and then disappear. The weakest part of the game. It gets especially convoluted with Miller and Vega power struggle.
    - The music doesn't create cyberpunk atmosphere these time around. So all the atmosphere is gone :(
    - Jensen wears glasses all the time. It makes him harder to relate to.
    - The Prague setting doesn't work well for the missions. Why everyone is helping Jensen and asking him to be a detective? It made sense in his native Detroit. But here police is brutal. Still everyone cooperates. Weird.
    - Also, the default control scheme sucks. I was in pain until I tried Breach one. After that gaming became a pleasure.

There are some great moments in this game that remind me of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but the game as a whole falls short of it's predecessor. At least Mankind Divided is not as disappointing as most of this generation's sequels. The core gameplay mechanics of sneak or shoot are as solid as ever.

Mankind Divided was famously delayed after the run-up to timed pre-order bonuses. For fans of the series, this was great because not only did we receive those pre-order bonuses without pre-ordering, we also received a very stable game. However, the game is visibly dated. Square Enix was clearly working on a release for Xbox 360 and PS3 during the game's 6 year development. The embarrassingly bad hair and clothing, the map sizes, and limited characters on screen all scream last gen. Worse, I've played last gen remasters that looked better. (Hint, the Naughty Dog games).

The limited map sizes are made worse by the hub world. Instead of travelling all over the world like a bad ass cyber super agent, you spend most of your time in the depressing city of Prague. This would be fine if there was more to Prauge than a few small maps and a couple of interiors per map for you to loot. Perhaps the worst offender is the red light district. At first it comes alive at night when the usual boring street advertisement turn into red holographic pole dancers. In the red light district, though, there is little to sneak and discover. It is an empty piece of eye candy before you enter another boring set of alley ways sneak past and apartments to look. I most felt like I was playing a home burglary game.

The second major issue in the game is the use of abilities and equipment. Abilities are unlocked with Praxis Kits and after a few days of playing, I figured out that my version of the game came with 5 Praxis kits. More can be purchased with micro-transactions. Without these 5 extra kits, the early game wouldn't feel much like DeusEx. Without unlocking abilities such as hacking, the game can easily devolve into a Call of Duty. With hacking and remote hacking, you become a true cyberpunk super spy. All this for only $0.99 per Praxis Kit.

The equipment system is not marred by micro-transactions, but the equipment is annoyingly managed by a grid inventory system and a limited ability to stack items. I quickly run maxed out stacks and found myself traversing the hub world to store extra items in a locker. I cannot stress enough to game developers how much I dislike inventory management. For example, instead of having me run out of space for bio stimulants and then spend 15 minutes to store the extras, just let me hold one and increase its battery. Also make bio stimulants useful somehow. I went through the entire game without using any. Also, instead of finding crafting parts to upgrade gear, just let me find better gear that automatically replaces the less effective gear.

The story in the game is so-so. Jensen is working for both Interpol and a shadowy hacking group. At certain points in the game, you have to decide which group to help, though the choices never bring the two into conflict. The ending also has two choices, but somehow I managed to resolve both outcomes anyway. The game is full of dialogue, e-mails, and little easter eggs. I even found the box art for Human Revolution in the game. All this could have been more interesting, and I found myself skipping e-mails and conversations. E-mails are mostly important for providing codes to terminals you could hack anyway and dialogue is mostly for context. Even the information did provide some kind of in-game clues to secret locations, the maps are so small that you are bound to stumble upon them anyway.

All-in-all, though, this is a Deus Ex game at its core. You can stack some vending machines around a bad guy so that you can take him down without onlookers seeing you. You can remotely hack turrets and then pick up them up and toss them into a closet to disable them without raising an alarm. You can find alternate paths that avoid 90% of enemies. Maybe the morale here is that the sandbox alone is not enough to make a great game. Human Revolution had something special that made it one of my favorite games of all time. Mankind Divided just doesn't have it.

Before anything, this review is made on January of 2018 with the most up-to-date version of the game. All this bugs should have been solved since the game is almost two years old.
In my opinion one of the major mistakes a game can fall in is by having it’s difficulty being it’s flaws, like an artificial difficulty. The game is made to look like you can do thing the way you like more but it’s a fallacy, the game actually forces you to play as the developers want most of the time.
You are forced to play as “ghost”, using shadows and stealth because if you try to go gunfight, you will never have enough ammo. The enemies drop a small quantity of ammo, no matter what. So if you spend a whole clip t shoot down a couple of enemies you will find that they drop less ammo then you spent to kill them. But if you fail to hit, they will spray you with infinite bullets. Yeah, you get behind cover and they’ll fire and fire and fire, never getting out of ammo.
This isn’t the only flaw of the game, the plot is full of holes and things that makes you think why a person so high in his/her career would do something that dumb. Those holes sometimes can be ignored but usually they are major holes, without giving big spoilers I can say that if “aug” people gets so discriminated, why don’t they cover their cyber limbs and go live their life as if they were normal people? The game shows you that one person does this and gets away with it. It’s such a obvious idea but no one is doing that. Everyone is very dumb in this game.
Talking about being dumb, let’s talk about the AI searching you, they CLEARLY see you, go after you, but if you manage to stay hidden long enough they accept that you have just disappeared and go back to their mundane talks about nothing. You have 3 different types of bullets to fire on your enemies but although they see you as an enhanced person, shouting and taunting you because that, they never use EMP bullets or grenades on you.
Also, the AI will rush towards any thrown cardboard box, mut if you smash a wall or a ventilation duct with you super-strength, they won’t hear. You knockout a guard that is ONE meter from another guard, the animation shows you hitting so hard that you can hear some bones breaking, but that other guard, 1 meter from him won’t hear anything.
And about being stealth, today, in 2018 infrared goggles are available under $100, but none of the thugs/army/soldiers/defensive robots/turrets you will face has enough cash for one of those.
Then we have more stupid things to “increase difficulty” but are actually just dumb. If you put a silencer in your gun your damage falls incredibly, which is totally stupid.
Talking about items, let’s talk about the stupid inventory. You have a full inventory and you find a shotgun, since you already have a shotgun picking up those will get you a couple of bullets, but not if you have a full inventory, in this case you will have to drop one of your other guns, pickup that gun so it is converted into ammo, then you can pick up the gun you dropped. You can carry 9 bear bottles in a single inventory slot but a nuke software will occupy 4 slots. WHO CAN STORE NINE BOTTLES IN HIS CLOTH? Make’em snack bars or energy pills, come on son!
What about hacking? You spend a lot of points in hacking only to find out that a lot of stuff just isn’t hackable. You have a lock that only opens to a card, but you are a master level 5 hacker right? That will not be a problem for you right? Wrong. In most situations a multitool if better then having hack level 5.
Then we have those old bugs, when you are using takedown or smashing a wall/ventilation duct, your arm will go through other textures a lot.
SPOILER AHEAD: When Talos Rucker start getting hacked in your face, you have LOTS of tranquilizer weapons, EMP shots, etc but you can’t do NOTHING but watch him die. And when the enemy takes you down and go full Austin Powers on you? They capture the most dangerous man on earth, a man he KNOWS infiltrated the ARC, went through a few dozens of ARC soldiers and left untouched, what they do when they capture that man? Kill him and steal all those amazing upgrades you have? No, they will leave you alive so you can get back on your feet and end them all.
And when you go the the hideout of the investigative tabloid that just found out that your company, a multinational that can install an office anywhere in the world in 72 hours, is fake and is covering for something, you go there, talk to them, they promise not to leak anything and it’s cool. No big deal, you can trust them. COME ON!!!
Also, I don’t like Jensen’s voice, looks like he just smoked a box of cigars all the time.

Game is incredibly easy (you can basically sprint between each section to reach chekcpoints, and beat the final boss in less than 20 secondes using 2 buttons.

The story is not interesting at all. Blah blah terrorists, blah blah meybe it's them, or them, oh s... it's the big ugly fat guy looking like a final boss, what a surprise !

I couldn't care less about side quests after a while, you save people who end up dying or worse, and the map is small, it rains all the time, it's dark.

Most of the gadgets are useless, I activated some that I never had to use, since you can stealth your way and press R3 to win the whole game.

Music is bad, french voice acting is awful

I still finished it though, some good stuff here and there, so if you're a huge deus ex fan I guess you'll go through and still enjoy it a bit.

Unfortunately though it doesn't meant its a great game. They should have named it Deus Ex Door Opener because that's all you're gonna be doing in this game (and crawling through vents). The guns don't have any punch and they sound like portable sewing machines. Theres no weight to your character so you feel like a tank sliding around on ice in an old COD game. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is a complicated thing, but not the only one in the games industry. So much potential, so many problems, many questions and few certainties. Of course those certainties, are great and solid, but they can not be considered omitting big, big problems that this game has.

Plot is an essential component in Deus Ex. Human Revolution's story was great, intricate and complex, and especially meaningful. Mankind Divided makes no exception, but it revolves on larger argument. Setting in Europe is very, very well done and nice. Story puts particular attention to thematics not so far away from our future, where in 2029 all people with augmented physical systems are put in lagers. Plot is brave because reflects, with different elements but the same ethics and discussions, about what means hate, fear and security in an age where these words have deep resonance. Our age where any excuse is good to take a large group of individuals and marginalize them due to cultural, physical or more differences. We know what terrorism is. We know it well, and often it blinds our judgment, buckling to innocent people, or entire peoples, the actions of a small group of individuals seeking to achieve an aim with use of violence. Sons of violence that are violent, because hatred does nothing but generate hatred, and often the perpetrators are themselves victims. It's not about justifying, but understanding. Understanding that we are all humans. We move into this distorted, piloted and sick reality. We are Adam Jensen, and he is each of us, in search of truth or hope. You know what the augmented terrorists match in the today's reality, right? Well, so no need to specify it. But these individuals are exploited and manipulated (leveling their hate) by corporations, governments and entities of questionable ethics, controlling informations. A great man once said: "the age of deterrence has become the age of control". Transhumanism, augmentation implants, loss of control, terrorism and social segregation. Unfortunately Mankind Divided's ends just at the climax, and in the end gave me the bad impression of being in front of an episodic game. A good plot twist during credits happens, I have to admit.

Gameplay is real Mankind Divided's strength. The game takes what was good in Human Revolution and tends to amplify it. The more action-tendency, however, doesn't disturb the stealth component, which remains solid. Of course, stealth approach remains the true meaning to complete the game. Generally all abilities in the game are useful, even if not all of them are required to get a good play. There's choice, and this is good, cause it amplifies re-playability. The methods to accomplish a mission are many, and variable, can be used main access routes, or even secondary and hidden access; much more ways to get the objective than in Human Revolution. Game can be finished without killing anyone, even bosses. AI works, but it could have been made a lot better. Game is full of nice and fun sidequests; one I remember and really liked is "The Harvester-Last Harvest", to find a killer that terrorizes Prague – I was a step forward this mission, suspecting and understanding the truth time ahead. Indeed, it was fun.

Graphically the game is great, Dawn Engine is a good leap forward compared to Human Revolution's engine, but bugs are not lacking. In artistic level design can be perceived a gap compared to the previous chapter. A more obscured and decadent design. It reflects cyberpunk's mood where Deus Ex probably excels unrivaled. The soundtrack is also great, and just like the art design, it fix well the feelings and the setting in the game's soul.

Now putting aside for a moment the question of the unnecessary power-packs to pay for the single player (which I consider the lesser evil), what I'd like to reflect is the status in which this game was published. And I'm not talking about the console version, which generally has only few problems, but about the PC version: discriminated, poor optimized and left behind. I was born as a PC gamer and still I am, despite having the game on PS4, and for me to see a historical and rich series as Deus Ex, originally born and glorified in the PC world, reduced to this poorly optimized computer version, it horrifies me. You all, PC gamers: you're right. You're right to be angry, because of how you've been treated. The way they treated us. Unfortunately with this game, things went the way they did, it's bad but today great publishers care more to put first marketing and advertising before product's quality. And think that they declared to take six more months for further development and optimization. Ridiculous. They simply lied.

Mankind Divided has a lot of good things, and it could have been even better, it could have been a masterpiece as Human Revolution. But with all its clear problems, this Deus Ex chapter is an another sad story in today's dark and almost hopeless videogames world.

Also, IA is practicaly the same as the previous games. If you find a coverage, you will have the combat practicaly under control most of the time, just aim to the head.

    - Missions and side-missions are good, the world changes in order you advance in the game and the characters are quite interesting and believable.

    - The main story is probably the big issue, I had interest in it, but unfortunately it is unfinished, there is no Ending, it just cuts halfway the experience in a "thats all?" sensation. Dont know the reason why this happened but its sad.

    - Overall: fun but it ends quite fast, with the feeling of an unfinished game.

I tried to like this game but at least 2 things seem wrong to me: PS4 controls especially in combat and story. Let's start from the latter, story does not compel me and ends abruptly. Boss battle towards the end was a grind, nonsense for newcomers to this franchise like me. I had to constantly heal even on the LOWEST difficulty and significant experience in FPS games, I was just hiding, peaking, shooting and healing again over and over, I understand that game wants you to play smart, but I can see clear changes in difficulty throughout the missions.
In addition, every time big event happens and quasi-open world map re-sets, bunch of locations that I previously opened are now closed, game keeps throwing new items in places I have already been and looted, and looting/inventory is just a mess too. Also, sneaky "new game+" is cool but clearly exists to justify poor XP system. You can pass all side missions and do all missions and still NOT HAVE all skills unlocked, and this is not good. Praxis system should be way more forgiving (microtransactions are very bad here). Game just ends... it has very few interesting characters who were badly developed. backstory and connecting pieces to last games were also poorly done. Ok now good things:
the game is awesome in terms of universe, options you can take, abilities. Level design is clever too, you can craft items that will definitely help you .
but overall ... story is not the best, it just wants to set up more games, no satisfying conclusions. And on top of that poor controls on PS4 makes me sad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I haven't played any earlier Deus Ex games. The game started very well for me as it seems to take itself really seriously and creates an interesting world. I felt paranoid about everything in the beginning to the point that I was trying to lock my apartment after I left the first time. This tension quickly runs out upon discovering that a murdered man in a night club will be left for days. And the door to what's supposed to be a secret area can be left open. Even sneaking into a vent that leads to the server room in front of your Interpol colleagues doesn't alarm anyone. I like some of the mechanics but the whole game feels too convenient. I was never stuck since my mind was always looking for the vent, the weak wall section or movable object which ALWAYS were there and always usable. No vents will lead you to nowhere or nothing!
The graphics are good but not groundbreaking. Some of the side quests are interesting and others are plain stupid. AI is shocking. The city is lifeless and the NPCs regurgitate stupid trivial information. Even the shop keepers keep repeating the same introductory lines every time you see them.
Overall, a mediocre game with interesting lore, tiny lifeless sandbox city and stupid AI.

Though the story in a whole doesn't offer a big plot with conspiracy, etc. One could say the story is just a slice of life of Adam Jensen vs the system. BUT what is offered is so damn atmospheric, accompanied with a beatiful ambient ost and very good level and gameplay design. I could not put this game down until i finished it and was a little sad that there was not more.
I think square enix did a really good job here and it does not deserve hate. I just hope in future titles there is a bigger, lage scale plot progress with some real endings.

This game is the same as it's predecessor - but few times worse in every aspect.

Story is very short, as everyone already pointed out, but this is, probably, it's best trait. Problem with a story is simple - it is not interesting enough. It has almost no connection to previous game and doesn't stand out by itself. Just another flick about illuminati and clash of classes, which made me

It has almost no connection to previous game and doesn't stand out by itself. Just another flick about illuminati and clash of classes, which made me cringe most of the time.

Characters add some more cringe-effect: Adam Jensen, MC, never was an interesting character, just an augmented action-movie-macho-soldier, but in DE:HR he had some interesting companions and enemies. DE:MD had only one character, whom I liked, and half a dozen very irritating characters, whom I totally disliked.

Gameplay is mostly the same as it was in the previous game - you crawl through vents and hack stuff, while knockin every stupid AI opponent out with taser. New augs added a little more variety in battle, but are mostly useless compared to weaponry with AP-rounds and EMP-stuff.

Some locations (Alps, London, some side mission locations) are pretty interesting, but main hub - Prague - isn't. It is just a grid of little streets and alleyways with too little hidden secrets and stuff like that.

Graphics are pretty most of the time - but don't expect miracles, because this game looks more like upgraded DE:HR. It runs on PS4 (usual, not Pro) without flaws most of the time, but sometimes (rarely) fps get low for a second or two. Most of the time, however, it is solid 30fps.

I played it because PS+ gave it to me - and was thinking about buying it on some sale. But after playing I thanked my luck - personally, I would be disappointed if bought it, even on sale. If you really love DE:HR, then maybe you wold like this game enough to be pleased and should buy it on sale. Full price - no way, it just doesn't worth it, even for fans.

If you liked Human Revolution, you should like MD. The game isn't short at all if you're a completionist or close to one, and try to do most of the side quests and explore all the areas. If you just try to blast through the main story ASAP, sure it's a little short. I don't play that way though.

I decided to give this game a shot and i liked it, but for me the story was hard to follow, but i got the general idea of what was going on. This was my first Deus Ex game and i was overwhelmed as there are so many ways to take down enemies and different ways to go about a situation. Here are my likes and dislikes about the game:

    Likes:
-Like how you can update Adam's skill set
    -LOVE the save feature
-there is A LOT to explore

    Dislikes:
-The intro in the game was the longest intro i have ever seen in a game. Got lost about a couple minutes in to it and the intro is about 10min i think.
-the mouth movements of the characters are really awkward and annoying
-no in-depth walk-through for hacking. I was really confused on how to hack at first, but i got a hang of it after awhile.
-for me there was way too much hacking. In order to access the security systems, weapon stashes or just general areas you will have to hack your way through which got EXTREMELY annoying.
-There was also a few bugs i ran into, i.e. weapons wheel wouldn't show all weapons. Or when i was running through the city the screen would make subtle freezes every now and then.

This game was a bit out of my normal realm, but with it being open world and having the features it has it what makes this game a good one. Would i buy the next Deus Ex, probably not as it is just not the type of game i would play

Oh but it gets better, here's a stealth game that limits you from killing enemies with melee. It's just clunky and feels like a cheap attempt at giving the illusion of depth. The story is half baked and not worth anyone's time, unless your a die-hard fan. I found it to be dissatisfying.
I'm glad I got this for free through PS plus, because it's not worth my money. Why give conversation options if they really don't change anything anyways? Until it does and you've messed up the story line, which would be great if the ending wasn't AWFUL! Seriously, play other games. Unless you want a first person stealth sandbox.

There are the makings of a 9 or 10 here but as it is it isnt worthy of it. The game is unfinished. Not 'cyberpunk 2077 unfinished' but 'missing a couple of Acts' unfinished. Its clear these cuts were made with the intention of selling them to us at a later date (and the storm surrounding the games microtransactions put paid to that). They shouldve learned their lesson from the prequel. Obnoxious attempts to relate it to current (then and now) politics sour the narrative and induce cringe.
Jensen is a great near iconic protagonist who deserves better. The game wouldve been a smash if they had focused on finishing it rather than vulturizing it with intent to sell it back to us.

Human Revolution!

So this is the first Deus Ex game I have played. After seen the recap video of Human Revolution (nice addition to those, including me that haven't played HR) I was looking forward to this and I figured the key elements of its complex story.

Then the game happened. It may be me who don't get the deus ex universe, but up until the Golem City mission, I was quite bored. I didn't understand the Augs you have in your arsenal nor how to either go stealth or full rampage. However after Golem City I kinda figured out the basics, and the story also begin to takes its form. I really thought this was gonna be an excting and dramatic ending. But I was wrong, Without spoiling it, it was quite an uneventful ending.

Storywise, it is a complex story, and i don't understand the Deus Ex universe yet, but at the high tense moments, i enjoyed it. And it is an interesting concept with Augs vs Humans. But it kind of felt flat with that ending, and I didn't feel like I had accomplished anything. But it had its moments. A thing that bothered me, was the dialoque. Like it okay with some eventful dialoque, but sometimes it just dragged on and on, with more talk than action. Which sometimes made it boring.

Gameplaywise, well, the first half of the game, i didn't understand the fundamentals, which unfortunately ruined my experience. When i figured it out, the gameplay was fun, with different routes to complete the missions. The Augs in your arsenal, there was a lot to choose, but I just sticked with the invinsibility one which I had succes with. A thing I got frustrated with was the inventory, Yes I know thats the more realistic, but there were a lot of things I wanted with me, to make a succesful mission. But that's how it is. And I am not a fan of both playing as 1st and 3rd person. The cover system of course helps that is 3rd person, but I just wanted to play as one of the perspectives and not both.

To sum it up, okay story, but with a dissapointed ending. Gameplay is fun, however quite complex to start with, which resulted in a bad experience for me and some places even boring.

Despite, but the fact that the main action of the game takes place in Prague, cyberpunk was not lost from this! And thanks to the study of the maximum number of small details in the game, the feeling of the game only intensifies. It feels like each apartment in the game was made independently. No matter what lane you go into, the atmosphere of oppression can be traced everywhere.

All I have to say is that the gameplay is vastly improved in this game, and while the story and setting definitely falls flat compared to the previous entry, this is probably the one you'll keep replaying over and over.

The world's storytelling of show not tell and giving you hints that are interconnected with other quests or characters is flawless, and even if all you have to explore is Prague, it is so well done that it never feels like it's enough.

Online mode can be fun but it's too much of a grind.

Expand

Delivers pretty well. Great atmosphere and great to play stealth. I didn't like the gun-play too much. It takes itself sometimes too seriously (not like the original when the dialog is smart and very fun). The story was BAD.

This game is good, it's just not what I've expected. Every aspect of it felt like a downgrade, compared to the previous part.
Locations? Well, there is... one? You will go to 3 missions on different maps, but they're rather small. And the main one, Prague, just didn't work well for this futuristic setting. They've added a lot of tunnels, explorable buildings, etc, but the setting just

They've added a lot of tunnels, explorable buildings, etc, but the setting just didn't cut it. It doesn't look memorable. I wish they used China, or the US like in the previous deus ex, which worked so much better.
Stealth? It's all about stealth. There's a ton of skills, perks, hiding spots and vents. Any mission can be beaten without firing even 1 bullet. And, at the same time, they've nerfed it by adding multiple non-stealth attack skills. The moment you stop hiding, the game becomes your generic middle of the road FPS.
Hacking? It's there, it's represented by minigame, it's fun. On the same time, it's mostly useless. While in the previous game there were a lot of high tech stuff like turrets and robots for you to hack and use, in this one there are about 5 hackable robots in the whole game.
Plot? Well, I've completed a few boring intro missions, did a few side quests. The moment things started to get interesting- first bossfight, first conspiracy, the moment I expected to finally get out of Prague and continue to the next location... the credits appeared.
1 city. 1 boss. About 20 missions. I guess I could have beaten the game in like 3 hours or less. Compared to the previous game, it felt more like a demo version.
Oh, and the game is in awful state. It's still buggy- they've never even fixed random crashes. In some places it just lags horribly, even on modern hardware.
All in all, I did enjoy what felt like an inferior laggy demo of a deus ex human revolution.

One of the best games that I have ever played. It's perfectly balanced in gameplay and difficulty, it's challenging and addictive. It is also superb about technical quality, art, sound, music and the plot of the story.
I didn't know this game, but I bought it while waiting for Cyberpunk, in November of 2020. I definitely recommend it 100%, I really enjoyed it.

I give this game a 1 because it charges a ton of microtransactions to really do anything. VOTE WITH YOUR MONEY. Stop these companies from making cash-grab games. Don’t pay for this crap.

A masterpiece of a game. I enjoyed every moment of this experience. I was constantly impressed from start to finish by the sheer amount of detail and scope it had. The graphics, gameplay, artwork and story are all of the highest quality. Highly-recommended to everyone.

So much wasted potential. The game ended at what felt like a lead up to the climax. If I hadnt done any of the side missions I wouldve finished in a few hours. Lots of useless upgrades and items too.

Mankind Divided isn't quite the Deus Ex game of our dreams, but it's a strong step in that direction. There's a high emphasis on choice and experimentation, killer side quests, and dense, detailed levels that are a joy to explore. With momentum pushing towards the next chapter in the story, here's to hoping it won't be another five years before we see Adam Jensen again.

Mankind Divided continues the legacy of its predecessors with a high quality experience on all fronts. It may have an underwhelming ending but nevertheless it provides engaging gameplay with either a stealthy or all-guns blazing approach, it provides a beautiful and detailed Prague and it manages to maturely project the prevalent racists issues of our society to its dystopian world.

Mankind Divided takes all the great ideas from Human Revolution and adds to them, making it just as good as the prior Deus Ex.
