One of the more impressive aspects of this run out is the choices you're making without fully realising there were alternatives. I find myself looking back, ten hours in, with '20/20' vision and reflecting on the exact moment I made Jensen's life go to s***. So yes; it's a more adventurous game with a lot to explore and yet somehow manages to feel less than the sum of it's parts. Still a very smart game, and now you finally have more than one/two ways of getting rid of your big bad guys. Expand

That crook Sean Murray should take notes, THIS is how you create and market a game. Everything that was advertised is here and then some! The action sequences are phenomenal and the combat feels perfect whether you're playing the game stealth or going in guns blazing. It's been a terrible last six months for game and Deus Ex has broken the drought!

The release of Cyberpunk 2077 made my returning to this game, and I want to say the game is amazing. Awesome stealth gameplay (the best I've ever seen), nice visuals, good story. If you think the story is stale, then play Deus Ex 1 and Human Revolution. The only complain is that it's short compared to HR, and it will never get a sequel. That's the saddest part about this game.

Improves on Human Revolution in pretty much every way, though still never matches the wonder and mystery of the original Deus Ex - the game is never really more than the sum of its parts as a "Deus ex prequel with modern graphics" though, those parts are pretty good on their all! I appreciated the approach to the depth over breadth open world as Mark Brown has also highlighted.

I brought this new on release for my new pc and something about the gameplay flow early on didn't quite gel with me at that time and I put it down... 3 years later I returned only on the ps4 pro and something felt VERY right this time.... I really cannot understate the importance of just how well written this game is. The world, the setting, the interactivity.... everything breathes a level of intelligence that rewards your efforts. Sadly the gameplay itself feels flat in 2019 and the ai feels archaic and just barely functional at times. I really hope there is a sequel to this story and that a future effort could find the audience it deserves!

GREAT game! One of the best I've ever played! I'm using Ps4 pro, which allows 4k/HDR. Great sense of freedom, beautiful graphics, good responsive controls, amazing and complex story. The cities are alive and full of things to explore. The player is motivated to do all side missions and explore, it's real rewarding.

One of the few games where I do ALL the side quests, every time I play it. The DLCs are also enjoyable and offer more of the same quality.
The only real downside to this game is that the main story feels incomplete. It feels like it's waiting for a part 3 that we might never see. Which would be a shame because this series still has a lot going for it.

Due to users wanting a more "light" expererience (mindless action), this game is severly underrated and not enough appreciated in its depth. I only registered here to leave this review here because this game touched my heart and it is so undervalued compared to Human Revolution, which is an entirely different experience. Please stop saying Human Revolution is better - it is NOT; Mankind Divided is much more complex and sophisticated. I only need to think of Mankind Divided on days when I feel off and I feel better.

I myself have always been a Deus Ex fan and even liked Invisible War for what it was worth. While ignoring IW Deus Ex has been considered the thinking man's shooter. In my opinion Mankind Divided fully lives up to the Deus Ex name.

You can always play it like an fps - take cover, use an aug or two and you will probably blast through the game within 10 hours or less. But by doing so you will probably be ignoring most of the carefully implemented ventilation shafts, hidden safes, alternative routes ang quite possibly also some easter eggs and other rewards. For me, a minimum of 2 playthroughs is necessary to experience everything. Because even the wittiest player can make a mess out of a situation with the outcome possibly blocking off alternative aspects. You can for example infiltrate optional sections of the gameworld before actually receiving the proper mission for it. And by doing so, completing the mission by skipping half of it. Every action has certain consequences. A different playstyle can obviously also produce a different outcome. Using diplomacy can be useful in obtaining allies rather than a gun-to-the-face approach. The diversity is what hooks me but could also be off-putting to other potential players.

Side missions are few compared to other RPG's, but all of them are lengthier and more thought through than your average fetch quest. Many of them are multi parted and actually require to do some investigation without direct guidance from the developer. Main missions are mostly lengthy and take place within or in the outskirts of Prague. So there isn't as much globe-trotting as there was in Human Revolution. Prague can also feel small at first, but when you decide to explore the world fully, you come to realize that it can be rather overwhelming even.

The interface is heavily inspired by the first Deus Ex, while the movement, augs and shooting follow the Human Revolution steps. It might take some getting used to, but the new approach can also bring back some heavy vibes from the first game. The game uses a heavily modified Human Revolution engine without the inherent yellow-ish piss filter, resulting in a much clearer and suitable look, as there is also daytime gameplay now (while Human Revolution took place almost exclusively at night). There is also a very agressive sharpening filter in place which results in some very sharp looking textures, but the effect could be off-putting for those who prefer a softer, more realistic look. Mankind Divided does run decently, a 30fps lock is mostly in place while traversing the cityscape, but occasional drops can occur when in combat.

Overall the game is a real treat to Deus Ex, cyberpunk and/or RPG fans. The adaptive playstyle approach can make it appealing for fans of other genres as well, but like I said, a one-sided approach can possibly decrease the overall value of the whole package. Without actually spoiling anything, the only real critique for me would be that the stakes of the overall story arc seem to be lower than in previous games. Nonetheless it's still a good combination of political agendas mixed with conspiracies.

Definitely a must-buy for a Deus Ex fan and I recommend others to consider it as well.

    Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Review
Alex the Kidd, Gamers of the Round Table

Square Enix’s follow-up to their 2011 title Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Mankind Divided takes place two years after the events of its predecessor, and players take on the role of Adam Jensen once again in this cyber-punk RPG. With new augments, characters and story, does the latest Deus Ex title successfully develop its unique take on a dystopian future? or are players left with a lackluster sequel that can’t live up to its source material?

    The Good
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided lets the player choose their control scheme. Whether you want to go with their default layout, Human Revolution’s layout or a generalized First-Person-Shooter control set-up, the player is offered a variety of control load outs to accommodate individual play styles. The familiar RPG elements make a return, more polished and with a new “overload” system that requires the player to use. “experimental” augments at the cost of damaging your systems or permanently locking out original choices. This brings a new level of unique customization to the franchise and creates consequences for players who choose to use the new abilities. Mankind Divided improves upon the idea that you can “play your way” throughout the game, whether you want to tackle a mission guns blazing, or you want to infiltrate and never be seen. In the previous installment, players found they were hindered for choosing to play the game with stealth when it came to boss fights; Mankind Divided creates situations where you can attempt to take down any enemy through any means, without making the player feel like they made the wrong choice.
If you haven’t played Human Revolution since 2011, this game gives you the option to watch a compilation video to recap the previous game; narrated by Jensen, the twelve minute video covers all of the major plot point from Human Revolution, and is highly recommended if it has been almost five years since you played as Adam Jensen. Depending on your sound system, you may want to adjust your volume to put more emphasis on voice audio as the music score can drown out the narration (or enable subtitles before playing). The addition of the Deus Ex:
Universe companion app allows players to access behind the scenes content created by the developers and shows their insight into how they came to develop the word and characters of Mankind Divided; the app is free to download and allows players to scan in-game collectibles to access the content through their mobile device. This comes as a welcomed addition for players who immerse themselves in the world of Deus Ex and allows them to experience the creative process behind the game.
    The Bad
The Breach feature feels tacked on and out of place; the introduction to the game mode is immersive, yet the actual content feels forced and out of place. While the art direction for Breach can be praised, it comes off as an unnecessary online component. Players can compare their stats using leaderboards, but the game mode becomes quite repetitive, and is little more than a puzzle game. While you can earn praxis kits through Breach, it requires you to hold off from the main game for its benefits to having any weight.
The biggest issue with Mankind Divided is its waypoint system – or lack thereof. Players must always refer to the map to find their objective, and there are several times throughout the game where mission objectives are not indicated on the map at all. Having to look online to find out where to go next takes away from the immersive gameplay; one mission requires the players to locate two individuals, but only shows the location of one without indicating where the other is. While exploring Prague is fun, wasting time looking for your objective is far from it.
    Rating
9.5/10 - Deus Ex: Mankind Divided brings players back into the role of Adam Jensen in full force; while a few minor navigational mechanics that could use some fine-tuning, the game provides an immersive experience that allows you to handle any situation the way you want. This game not only follows up its predecessor, it stands on its own as an excellent video game. This is the quintessential espionage RPG gamers deserve.

However, the few augments they add are not all that useful, and praxis kits are more plentiful than before. I've seen some reviews exploding at the game for microtransactions, but I didn't see one in my entire 40 hours of two playthroughs. Early in the game you are GIVEN TEN praxis points and if you're going sneaky that is literally all the points you'll ever need. I maxed out Jensen in less than a playthrough and a half. The biggest problem, the one that keeps this game from being a solid ten, is the obvious sequel baiting. The entire game builds up this underlying conspiracy, and never divulges a single thing about it. Where HR went through all these turns, maybe your boss is bad, maybe Megan is alive, the illuminati is real! Mankind Divided replays a couple of those but fails to wrap them up. It leaves room for an obvious third Jensen game, but it also leaves the player feeling somewhat hollow about the whole thing.

Honestly, the game is well worth the $60 if you liked Human Revolution.

Mankind Divided isn't quite the Deus Ex game of our dreams, but it's a strong step in that direction. There's a high emphasis on choice and experimentation, killer side quests, and dense, detailed levels that are a joy to explore. With momentum pushing towards the next chapter in the story, here's to hoping it won't be another five years before we see Adam Jensen again.

Mankind Divided continues the legacy of its predecessors with a high quality experience on all fronts. It may have an underwhelming ending but nevertheless it provides engaging gameplay with either a stealthy or all-guns blazing approach, it provides a beautiful and detailed Prague and it manages to maturely project the prevalent racists issues of our society to its dystopian world.
