I don't know what's going on with David Cage and all the negative reviews about him, but I'm having a great time with Detroit. Granted; this is my first time playing a game like this. I feel Detroit is close to a 9, but decided to 10 to counter balance against all the auto negative reviews on here.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well... this is very difficult for evaluating, despite I gave game above average score. First of all, negatives:
    - Story: While story is better then in Heavy Rain, its worse (much worse!) then in Beyond: Two Souls. When I played B:TS, it was very strong story with many embracing moments and player was capable to feel Jodie life, suffering, successes, fails and her struggle with life. Despite all efforts, I can not feel struggle in these androids. But its not about some philosophical point of view. I expected some plot twist, some great and unexpected subplot/plot that will change player point of view on whole game and story (for ex. Amanda AI trying enslave humanity and android rebellion is obstacle in way to success... yes, its bit matrix-like, but it could be good). I admit its much difficult to embrace and feel more then one character, but still. I think that story failed. When I completed B:TS I decided play it again, but now, I am more frustrated then thrilled. Many potential subplots were not used (Russia-US war?!)
    - Segmentation replay: While it is maybe one of greatest plus in my review, it is also not player-friendly, especially in long parts. But on first attempt, its not worse.
    - Graphic: I do not think there was much improvement since B:TS and we must take difference is between PS3 and PS4!
    - Cliché: Uprising oppressed, drunken and broken cop...

    Positives:
+ Actors and acting: While plot and story is weak, actors and their "acting" is fantastic! Many great and even my favourite actors (Clancy Brown). I know its computer imagined acting, but still, very good. Not mention that there are a lot of pretty female droids (North, android couple in Eden Club).
+ Some feelings: Well, cant denied that in some scenes, it was strong and I feel something, but thats all.
+ Segmentation replay: Great advancement in gameplay technologies within this genre! It could be better created, but its very good.
+ Analysis system: Another great gameplay advancement with many possibilities. It was one of very few situation when I was completely interested.

    Summary:
Its up to you to buy it. My feelings are very mixed, but because of actors, analysis system and David Cage himself, I am more favorable and giving 7 of 10 score. I can find parallel in the Mass Effect: Andromeda (where was also Clancy Brown...), weaker successor of great predecessors.

The story may be generic as a Si-Fi, but the experience is really good.
All choices do have real impact, more or less, there are more than one ending.
But there is something I don't like, it's that many story branch depends on your failure, and I guess most player won't really aim at that.

Probably the best work David Cage has done yet. Besides some pacing issues it has a very good run time with a story while clique is gripping enough to enjoy throughout and with branching decisions that do have an effect on the story, it is money well spent.

For ppl who only care about crazy gameplay like God of War or Nier Automata, this game is prolly not for you. This game isn't about its gameplay, it's about everything else. The writing (which could be autistic at some points but mostly on point), the visuals and soundtrack and most importantly the story.

Just finished the game and I have to say it's fantastic.
    Pros:
-Gripping story -Choices with heavy consequences, and not just in the final chapter -Stunning visuals and animations -Great voiceover and music -Intriguing main characters (well except maybe Marcus ) Cons: -Camera is surprisingly atrocious. I had to wrestle with it every time I needed to get a better look around.

This game expresses human nature and how we never truly learn from history but keep making the same mistakes over and over again. To me, it's one of the deepest single-player and story based game I have played in a long time and I am grateful for this experience. Regarding the decisions you are given, I have to say that they are not always 100% clear and I sometimes did not quite guess right what the game wants to achieve with some of the options. Gameplay and camera also could have been better which is why I only give 9 points from 10, but overall i am very excited and would not mind to witness a continuation of the Detroit universe. Interactive objects are rarely hidden too well, and light exploration reveals much of what there is to see.

    Graphics - GOOOOOOOORGEOUS

Sound - Excellent use of ambient noise, coupled with some stellar voice acting performances. The orchestra numbers were hit or miss, but mostly got the job done when it came to denoting the games pace.

Replayability - It's there in spades. LOTS of potential branches to follow with a visualization of your taken path. However like most Cage games there is a larger narrative being explained that can only be affected so much. Still, well worth two or three plays to see more of the stand-out performances.

Verdict - A mash-up of David Cages finest work. Of the three narratives you can see a little of each previous Cage title. Kara has the emotional family driven narrative of Heavy Rain, Conner is the detective drama from Indigo Prophecy and Markus shows the supernatural signs of technological instability - nodding back to the supernatural presence in Beyond Two Souls. It really feels like Cage took all the elements that worked in those titles, and lost those that didn't for an overall enjoyable experience. 8/10

Detroit: Become Human, is Quantic Dreams' latest game. It takes place in a visually hyper-realistic slightly futuristic version of Detroit, Michigan. If you like it, then you should try Quantic Dreams' previous games - Beyond: Two Souls, and also Heavy Rain (which you can buy on the PS4 online game store), as well as their earlier games, Fahrenheit (which is also known as Indigo Prophecy) and Omikron the Nomad Soul (both of these last two can be found at gog.com for cheap. These last two are pc games. All of these games have a similar gameplay style except Omikron, which is very different.

Detroit: Become Human resembles in many ways the TV show, "Humans," though it was in development before Humans first aired. The game concerns the world in the near future, when people own lifelike robots. These robots are popular with the wealthy but the working class hate them for taking their jobs. Now, perhaps due to a new upgrade, some of the robots are gaining a sense of right and wrong, and wills of their own. The game follows a few different robots to a point where their paths converge. One robot is a young woman whose employer is abusive to his daughter. Another is a caretaker for a wealthy artist whose no-good son is jealous of the robot. A third is a detective who is partnered with another detective who hates robots. The visuals are amazing. The acting is great. The stories are intriguing and at times very suspenseful. The game consists of walking around, finding clues, speaking with other characters, and at times has action sequences that produce quite an adrenalin rush. The game resembles traditional point and click adventures except it has no real puzzles or, the puzzles that do exist are so simple I wouldn't personally even call them puzzles.

The game also shows you at the end of each chapter, a map indicating what you did in that chapter as well as where you could have done certain things but did not. The things you didn't do are revealed by blank boxes. There are no spoilers in the flowchart. Also, when you speak to characters, blank dialogue choices will appear to indicate that - if you had done certain things in the past - additional dialogue choices would have been available to you. The game also has multiple endings based on choices you make while playing.

It is a great game, with superlative story, visuals, and acting. I would have given it a 10 if it was not marred by one very bad design flaw. On-screen prompts indicate every little thing you can do. If I can open a door by rotating my thumbstick a certain way, a symbol on-screen will tell me that when I get near the door. If I can pick up a book by pushing my thumbstick up, a symbol on screen will tell me that when I get near the book. If I am looking for someone and knock on their door and ring their doorbell, words will pop up on the screen telling me to discover another way inside. Ya' think?

The designers might respond, "Yes but in many situations the gesture you need to make with the thumbstick or with the entire controller, is unique to that situation, so we have to give you these symbols."

My answer to that is, Most of the time the gestures are consistent. Sometimes they're not. The designers should have made it so gestures are consistent so players can learn them in one tutorial chapter and then be on their own. If a particular quirky moment requires something different, OK in that instance show a symbol on screen, but only in those very few quirky moments.

I cannot even turn these symbols off. They should have made it so you can turn them off and then by toggling a press of the left or right stick, I could turn them on if I need them. But having your hand held all the way through a game is extremely annoying.

That said, Detroit: Become Human is still a solid 8. It is also unlike any other game you can buy. Yes, it is squarely in the adventure genre (true adventure, not action adventure, meaning it has a lot of plot and is not about action, though it has action scenes here and there) but within that genre Detroit: Become Human takes an approach that is unique and more story-driven than any game (aside from games by the same company) that I can think of.

It can be as deeply emotional as it is profound, as it forces you to feel attached to the characters as well as ponder their personal motivations. Its diversity and the choices it offers are also remarkable, much better than those of any Quantic Dream game beforehand, Heavy Rain included. But most of all i was impressed by how the game challenges your perceptions of what's real and what's not, and it does that in a variety of ways, including by using its Main Menu in ways i have never seen before (promoting so-called philosophical surveys, asking you questions, it even goes as far, depending on your choices, as to challenge you to allow the eyecandy android depicted in its menu animations to 'walk free', meaning you will lose her as the 'face of the game', which will be replaced by a (mostly) white image. I loved the way she was implemented, and was really sad to see her go, but it's all about one's values, isn't it? As for the endings, they can be really heart-wrenching as it is really hard (or impossible?) to get the 'good' ones for ALL parties involved, or all 3 main characters - and the fact that they're all wonderfully constructed makes it very hard to decide who you want to sacrifice, especially since the repercussions of your actions are rarely easily apparent in the game. Overall, this was a one of a kind experience and, for me, a complete masterpiece. Well done Quantic Dream, you completely surpassed even my highest expectations! Expand

Detroit: Become Human is an emotionally driven story that weaves a complex narrative of multiple branching pathways. These oftentimes converge and create moments that test the finality of your decisions. You can truly see how the world suffers or prevails from the consequences of your actions which resonate throughout the story.

While it does possess the usual David Cage charm that may not appeal to most, I personally found the approach to be problem free and I believed that my choices carried weight.
That's what Science Fiction allows you to do: suspend your belief. I totally surrendered myself to the world of Detroit and the well-written and relatively grounded characters of Markus, Kara and Connor.
Exceptionally written dialogue coupled with a fantastic soundtrack and beautifully rendered graphics and animations (some of the best I've ever seen) make this one of the most enjoyable games that I have played in recent memory.
This game is a work of art and I believe it would appeal to all fans of Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, Until Dawn or any games across the Telltale Games catalogue.
Ultimately if you enjoy a decent story you will find that here and will come away with more than you expected from the beginning.

Detroit: Become Human looks and sounds great, and includes key player choices throughout, though it could have benefited greatly from a tighter script. While it’s commendable that Quantic Dream tried to cover hot-button issues in a big-budget video game, it works better when focused on the personal character moments than the bigger themes that don’t dig deep enough to make a meaningful impact.

Although the narrative is fairly linear, there are enough branching paths over the course of the game to make it feel like your actions matter. That allows Detroit to still be fun even on multiple playthroughs – and for an interactive movie, that’s a rare praise. [Issue#231, p.68]
