The game has its flaws, but it is amazing in some aspects. The story is okay, the characters are compelling and well-developed. I dont understand why people hate David Cage so much.

Even on the "adept" difficulty, button combos rarely exceeded three buttons pressed in tandem. Interactive objects are rarely hidden too well, and light exploration reveals much of what there is to see.

    Graphics - GOOOOOOOORGEOUS

Sound - Excellent use of ambient noise, coupled with some stellar voice acting performances. The orchestra numbers were hit or miss, but mostly got the job done when it came to denoting the games pace.

Replayability - It's there in spades. LOTS of potential branches to follow with a visualization of your taken path. However like most Cage games there is a larger narrative being explained that can only be affected so much. Still, well worth two or three plays to see more of the stand-out performances.

Verdict - A mash-up of David Cages finest work. Of the three narratives you can see a little of each previous Cage title. Kara has the emotional family driven narrative of Heavy Rain, Conner is the detective drama from Indigo Prophecy and Markus shows the supernatural signs of technological instability - nodding back to the supernatural presence in Beyond Two Souls. It really feels like Cage took all the elements that worked in those titles, and lost those that didn't for an overall enjoyable experience. 8/10

I just finished the "Detroit: Become Human" for PS4.

I was going to give it a 9, but then I got to the last part of the game and... well, I won't spoil anything but MAN, WHAT A GAME. Story is perfect. Character development is amazing. Everything is just really good. This is a 10/10 for me, no question. I was choking up way too many times back there. Personally, one of the best

Graphics, sound design and story is all perfectly done. If you are even remotely into story driven games with hard choices, then this game is a must-have.
And kudos to David Cage and Quantic Dream for touching on difficult topics.

other than that if you like phenomenal graphics and a moderately nice storyline with interesting characters give it a try.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall a very polished game and compelling story with the usual niggles for this style of game.

The work that went into the facial animations and voice acting have really paid off as this never once strayed into the "uncanny valley" for me. The graphics, environments, acting and animations really are top notch and deserve to be recognised as such.

The story (or stories, following three android characters) kept me hooked from start to finish, though the two endings I've achieved so far didn't quite hit me as hard as I'd hoped - and I think this is because I struggled to bond with the characters.

The confusion for me comes with the idea that I'm playing the role of androids - but the whole basis of the story is that they have developed their own desires and feelings. BUT I'm a human, and as a human I felt conflicted between wanting to make choices as I imagine an android would, and projecting my own human interests to steer the story how I, as a human, would want things to go.

This was particularly an issue with Connor, whose initial job is to shut down "deviant" androids before they start a violent uprising. I initially played Connor as I imagined he would be: a ruthless hunter who doesn't let anything stand in the way of his objectives. Though this felt right to me in line with the character, I was making choices which I disagreed with morally - which made his path feel "right" but not necessarily satisfactory.
By contrast when I took a second run through I played him as I would a human, which had a more satisfying storyline but felt out of character and somehow wrong.

The progression from obedient to deviant isn't a subtle change which builds over time but a sudden flip of a switch triggered by a trauma. A malfunction rather than a growth in identity. There's no sense of "oh heck I never realised I've been acting out of character for a while now" - it's "system error: you're a real boy now".

This conflict rather soured the game for me - though perhaps that's the point the game is driving at: what is human? The fact that androids are living beings was taken a little too much for granted though, and I'd have liked some more doubt to be sown throughout for the player.

There were also some situations drawn from slavery and genocide which were handled quite bluntly. Not to say these weren't valid comparisons, but they caused some raised eyebrows for me at some points with the way they were delivered. Bearing in mind that the androids can be cleanly deactivated by removing their core or wiping their memory, was the brutality towards the end of the game for anything more than shock value? In a way the "clean" deaths could have been much more chilling if framed properly. A reset and return to slavery is almost as cruel as the death camps the story decided to progress to.

Aside from this there's also the usual frustrations which still haven't been addressed in this type of game:

Button prompts for actions which really don't need player input. I know this is to keep things feeling interactive but I'd much rather you decide whether you want to have long non-interactive scripted sections or make the effort to create more meaningful interactions for players. If you're going to make me tilt the controller to pour a cup of coffee at least make me have to tip it gently or it gets thrown over the floor. I yanked the controller like I was drifting a car and the coffee was poured perfectly.

Conversation options with obscure descriptions. Again, when I'm forced to make a decision under pressure I don't want to be spending half of the five seconds I'm allowed trying to work out the difference between "truth" and "sincere". In a game which makes player choice so pivotal to the experience I need to know what I'm choosing at all times.

Overall though I enjoyed my time playing and would recommend to people who enjoy these types of games. The freedom to look through the timeline and replay certain events instead of having to start from the very beginning to try different options is also greatly appreciated - and the amount of choices and consequences is very impressive.

If the goal was to create conversation about what it means to be alive, it's certainly achieved that. Having finished this story I still don't know.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't write reviews. Taste is something that I don't believe people can argue. But this game...It was beautiful, thought-provoking, touching, bewitching and, most of all, it was fun AF! Mistakes were made. Tears happened. My boyfriend admitted that I'm a better person than he is because I made my choices with all the conviction I could muster. There was always an option I could take that I truly believed in. I'm NOT a huge fan of David Cage. I had no idea who he was until I got Become Human. (Then I tried Heavy Rain and was like "lol, wot?!", made it 10 minutes into that and I'll stick to Detroit instead). To people who rate this game low because you don't like the genre, you're a bloody idiot. You're rating the game in its genre, why play something you don't like and then rate it poorly? For the genre it is, it's beautiful. I just beat it, and I need to go play it again...Luther and Alice died, clearly, mistakes were made and I need to fix them. Expand

This game is very disappointing. I would strongly encourage players to RENT instead of buy this game. Get it off Redbox or something it is NOT WORTH $60. It's roughly 6 hours at best of gameplay.

The game itself is reasonably engaging and explores some interesting ideas regarding AI. While certainly unrealistic and overdone in the melodrama sphere, the game is fun to play through.

There's no real replay value here, though, once its done I had no patience to redo everything or even parts of the story (which they give you options to do)

One thing I do need to mention is that this game has more political biases of the devs being snuck into the game, which as many can guess, leans decidedly left. There's also no nudity of any kind in this game. Even when you visit the in-game android strip club, all the androids are fully clothed.

Detroit: Become Human looks and sounds great, and includes key player choices throughout, though it could have benefited greatly from a tighter script. While it’s commendable that Quantic Dream tried to cover hot-button issues in a big-budget video game, it works better when focused on the personal character moments than the bigger themes that don’t dig deep enough to make a meaningful impact.

Although the narrative is fairly linear, there are enough branching paths over the course of the game to make it feel like your actions matter. That allows Detroit to still be fun even on multiple playthroughs – and for an interactive movie, that’s a rare praise. [Issue#231, p.68]
