Destiny is a wonderfully addicting, fun, mindless shooter that had the potential to to be the defining game of the current generation. Unfortunately, the potential was mishandled, and instead of the great game that was promised, Destiny is a mediocre shared world shooter with too much emphasis on PVP, horrible net code, and uninspired story telling.

I can't believe this is the most expensive game ever created. I sincerely question where the money went. The game feels empty and completely pointless. The ONLY thing that saves this from rock bottom is the multiplayer part. It's mildly fun in the beginning, yet repetitive further on. Sad!

This game could have been great but then came the dlc and then more dlc and more. Then the partnerships with other companies. To top it all off the story was once much better than the repetitive crap that is in the game now.
Bungie, I expected greater from you.
Activision, stop ruining games to maximize profits.

I received the game from a friend and no matter how hard i try to enjoy the game i just can't seem to like it, it was just so annoying how you just shoot endlessly at stuff... Sometime it took forever for nothing. I really don't like the game.

This is the biggest gaming disappointment I have ever experienced. I purchased a PS4 to play this game, I pre-ordered the digital guardian edition with the season pass so I could play it as soon as it came out.

And all I got was this stupid grind.

BLUF: "I don't have time to explain" is a quote from the game during a so-called story moment in a cut-scene. My low opinion: There is no actual storytelling in the game, so the excellent visuals and good gun-play mechanics mean nothing as you cannot emotionally invest yourself in a world which doesn't care to ever explain.... ANYTHING.

In a MMORPG the most important thing, (imo) is content and community which Destiny failes to deliver, It is alot of grinding:
    *Run here
    *Defend this
    *Kill that
*If someone dies run away and wait for respawn.

So instead of dunping your money in this game go play Warframe, cause it's the same thing but better and free.

Absolute disappointment. The gameplay is really the only thing that's here, theirs no story, and within the first few hours the gameplay becomes tedious as all you do is grind. Nothing of what they promised and implied would be in the game is in it. if your looking for that its probably a 0/10, if you look at it as a game that didn't promise that, its a 4/10.

I cry because destiny is a game that had epic potential... but WASTED it on a weak story, repetitive (at best) gameplay, and Peter Dinklage opening doors for you and giving pointless monologues that serve no purpose other than to make you hate the loading screens. The story is filled with SO much holes it's not funny, and Activison is now using DLC as an excuse to fill the holes. But the worst problem is being forced to play with a network connection. For the past 2 days, the PSN has been hacked by a group of dumbass 12 year old kids known only as the 'lizard squad', and even when they're done with their DDoS attacks, SONY has to patch everything that went wrong. Search up '#PSN' on Google/twitter and see what I mean. This is especially sad because this means you can't play destiny if you wanted to. Don't blame Bungie for that, internet, the lizard squad did it.

Overall, disappointing. Some missions are fun, yet still repetitive, and I've heard the dark below isn't doing all too well. Let's hope destiny 2 is good... if there even will BE a destiny 2.

After putting in some 200 hours, I discovered that Destiny eventually becomes the worst kind of loot grinder you can imagine. It includes some of the worst aspects of RPG and MMO games, namely the repetitive play as you look for loot. This part of the game can be addictive, but keep in mind that the game world is actually quite small compared to games like Skyrim and Dragon Age, so the boredom sets in fast.

Something else to be aware of is that Activision has seen to it that the game pushes players toward the very expensive DLC ($20 each) packs by creating a variety of paywalls that will restrict your gameplay once you reach some of the endgame content. It's a cheap way of pressuring players into paying, or else excluding them from content they've already paid for.

Something else to keep in mind is that the game is not meant for solo play. While you can do some content alone, if you don't have at least 5 good friends, you'll find yourself shut out of the "raids", which are considered the best of the endgame stuff. Bungie refuses to put matchmaking in, so anyone who doesn't have friends online is going to be out of luck.

If you pick this up cheap, or wait for an edition that includes all content, it might be worth a play, but NEVER pay full price for it. The concepts had some potential, but most of it was squandered by game design decisions that revolve around making money, first and foremost.

The enemies are almost cut and paste enemies from halo, just with a different model. Don't kid yourself, they're all the same, the react the same, they do the same things. The multiplayer is very dull and the load times give you plenty of time to go make a sandwich. They're worse than television commercials. Travelling to the Tower is the worst, since it's needed to go there often to deal with gear and vendoring, missions, etc. Alot of this could have been achieved through a menu system rather than making the masses sit through loading screen after loading screen.
The world feels dead. It is not an mmo by any means. It feels very forced and unnecessary, the experience would have been better in a Monster Hunter style. Have a hub, space travel load screens (rather than having the home screen being your ship floating through space, which wastes time just to have the "aw shiny, and look at my friend's shiny ships"), have more interesting enemies that have actual hard mechanics and movements, etc.
The pvp is also very drab. It's very cookie cutter with the added "hey i can also casts spells". The experience is more or less a downgraded halo experience. I'd rather have an actual arena shooter than a COD style shooter.
Overall, this game is a wash and I only own it because I wanted a shiny white PS4 (would never have bought it otherwise, given the history and overhype behind it).

The overall way the combat feels is excellent and is easy to pick up. However that is as far as the praise will go. You will find yourself spending a majority of your experience grinding for hours on end just to get better loot. The RNG loot system is completely ridiculous and requires no skill or effort to get better items, just great amounts of luck and hours of killing the same enemies over and over. Game play is also very repetitive, it's the same formula through the whole game. Just kill waves and waves of the same enemy till you get the next objective. The amount of defend missions that are used in this game is ridiculous, it's as if the developers just gave up half was through and chose to give us nothing innovative by way of game play.

The story is extremely bland and does little in immersing the player, it refuses to explain anything that is going on because the writers were too damn lazy to do it themselves. And the so called 'character customization' is downright insulting, the amount of options available to the customization is bare bones, leaving you with a character who is just as generic and boring as everyone else you see.

Boss battles are very anti climactic and require no strategy to win. The enemy variety is very small and none of them are introduced properly.

The art design and environments are beautiful, which is a pity because there is zero incentive to actually explore the world around you because you receive nothing for doing so.

The multiplayer is probably the most amount of fun i had for my whole experience. Which isn't saying very much because of how low the bar was set, it managed to entertain me for a few hours. But just like the campaign it becomes a repetitive flow with nothing that stands out.

Overall Destiny is nothing but a generic fps game that delivers nothing by way of innovation. There are a number of games out there like this that cost less and deliver much more fun than you will ever get from Destiny. However those of you who enjoy endless grinding will have the time of your lives. But if you're a person who likes a strong story coupled with interesting and diverse game play. Then Destiny is not the game for you.

    The Good
    +Gameplay
    +Aesthetics
+Peter Dinklage. The wonderful actor voices your personal assistant the "Ghost", and adds up to the overall experience
+Sci-fi Atmosphere. Amazing landscapes and buildings, nice particle effects and good npc models reminiscent of the halo franchise in some way.
+Solid Multi-Player except the faulty matchmaking system.
    +Useful Companion app
    +First 20 levels you achieve

    The Bad
-Shared-world. The shared world recipe which seems to catch in the industry with the upcoming games No man's Sky and the Ubi folks The Division does not work the expected way with destiny. You get to meet and play with other players around the small and claustrophobic maps in a series of timed and very repetitive events for the bounties completion, materials or engrams.
-Bounties first 10 times you finish a bounty feels like a blessing, since you need the Vanguard points or whatever points gives the bounty to level-up your vanguard rank or any other rank Bungie might introduce like the Crota's Bane Rep. But after that killing 100 enemies with precision damage feels like routine and grinding, or finishing a specific mission with a hard difficulty level setting, or a raid or any other bounty that comes after level 20.
-Light Gear. The post level 20 hassle. A new attribute is added to the armor gear LIGHT, which helps you level up,kind of artificially, to level 32. It's a pain to play trough the same content again and grind for engrams or strange coins to buy this gear.
-Match-making is destroying every hope you have as a low-level Guardian to have fun, i remember when i was around level 7 being pinned against a team of level 31-32 players with good gear and awesome weapons and having to be in a team where the highest level was less than the other teams lowest more than one time.
-Maximum amount of Marks. The maximum amount seems to be attainable in less than 2 days and is 100 a week and 200 in your inventory. Most gear costs around 150-175 so that takes 2 weeks to get some fancy boots or a nice weapon.

    The Ugly
-Scarce content. The game has around 14 missions and 4 raids(without DLC). The story seems so interesting but with every mission you play you are driven away from the story. I didn't even feel the game ending it was just like any other mission with recycled npc models for the bosses. Also Bungie locked out ares inside the game to later sell them as DLC.
-GIRNDFEST. Destiny players weekly goal is getting strange coins and/or marks to buy that nice piece of equipments he/she was eying and/or dreaming of getting from Xur(shady character that always respawns in a different place around the tower). The means to obtain such rare elements are nightfall strikes which were locked for the people without DLC, daily Heroic Strikes and/or doing bounties that are also limited to a daily amount and maximum you can pursue until you finish them.

Stimulating cut scenes and the storyline missions take you to the rather linear progress of the game play. If one wants to rush it, I guess you can easily do all the missions under 12h and have fun and thrill doing that. Yet the game promises so much more, so reaching your destiny within 12h seems nonsense.

And then you get hit by the grind factor. As in nearly all MMORPGs one is "doomed" to work for special resources and to get the better gear, either by questing for it, or by participation in strike missions and what is called bounties. The bounty missions are highly repetitive and massively unrewarding in terms of loot, it is just limited means to improve weapons and gear with the earned XP.

Building faction with the various vendors to get at least a bit better gear than the rare rare item drops, is weekly limited and artificially stretches the time till you can buy that stuff with your grind credits.

The rare items which offer slightly enhanced attribute bonuses are something one is happy in the beginning, the legendary items are even harder to attain and I recollect getting in total 4 so far from various random mob drops, and non of them fit my class, which is not only a downer but begs the question: why they came up with such a huge demotivating scheme.

People do have a job and work, and wont easily do multiple characters as even leveling one virtual character is already a tediously time consuming and stressing thing, considering ones free time one can allocate to gaming.

So if you are just a tiny bit of a so called loot wh... that appreciates some gratification for your "hard" virtual work and time investment, one gets a big door slam in right in the face. Then when we talk about the more serious stuff, like strikes and raids, the bonuses and rewards are mostly a joke. The raids that you can choose from, with all your shiny stuff you can wear, are mangling you and have plenty of bugs. From impenetrable glass walls where from behind the lowest ranked MOBs kill you with melee attacks, to server disconnects and glitches in the mission reward system.

Then there are the vendors... Like the one that only shows up on weekends, that ruins your quested weapons and gear as well as gathered super rare resources, because some dilettante programmer was not capable to make two different item IDs for obviously different specification of one and the same other gun (one with specs pre and one after the first expansion was released).

And that is when you get to know the help system. This is of the quality where you can not address a game master or someone that can fix things. No on the contrary, it is some sort of translation mistake where customer satisfaction has been translated as self satisfaction with an auto erotic touch.

You can post a complaint/question, and there you find them in the many... and hardly no one of the officials seem to care to answer. And if they answer with an agent, they tell you that it is basically your fault, because you could have read online in the forum before you click an upgrade option at a vendor. Or just stay away from the final boss mob and the glass.

It seems a systemic attitude nowadays, that game publishers and developers have the fling their waste at the people that pay easily 150 to 200$ for such a game, considering special collectors editions, expansion passes and add-ons, as well as additional reference books from Prima.

So what you get is a game that does not really offer that much more than a nice packaging some hours of fun, and then hold you in with stupid repetition. But if you really wanna play in depth, it reduces you to a resource gathering mule that plays so called patrol missions, where you mostly blow up easy Mobs to the hundreds and wait for public events to score some rare upgrade materials.

For the rest it is survive the bugs and keep cool when the lousy programming just killed 30 hours of resource harvesting, and do not get mad when the servers are down on weekends or you simply can not log in. Because it is your fault and never theirs.

I quite playing such a crap. My advice to you read a book instead or play guitar, that gets you way further proficiency of reading and playing an instrument, rather than attributing that amounts of time on such an unrewarding game, with literally is a dump down the drain and on the side it saves you money and it saves you the nice customer support answer that they feel your pain, but can not do a thing about it, which is new-speak for Go F... y....... and deal with our s.... because we do not care enough.

Everything else about Destiny is just lackluster. There is no story whatsoever, the missions are thoughtless and repetitive, the RPG mechanics are fairly weak and aside from competitive multiplayer there is nothing to do in this game unless you enjoy doing literally the EXACT same things over and over and over again. This game has singlehandedly put Bungie from the top of my trusted developer list down to the bottom. All the things that made the Halo series great seem to have been left by the wayside.

    Epic story? Nope
    Amazing multiplayer customization? Nope
    Theatre mode? Nope
    Forge mode? Nope
Split screen and online co-op? Nope
Varied and fun vehicle play? Nope

Literally none of the features that kept the Halo games in my disc tray for years on end are in this game. It is flat out mind-boggling for me to try and understand their thought process driving this game. I literally dont understand how Bungie was trying to set this game up as the one players would be playing for the next decade. If you havent tried it out yet, dont waste your time...there are much better titles out right now giving you way more game for your money.

The bosses are equally unimaginative - their main feature is a ton of hp, that you have to wear down over long shooting sessions, while being spammed with the same attacks over and over. in many cases it is enough to find the one spot in the boss arena where you can hardly be hit and shoot the boss from there for the next 15-30 minutes - it is as boring as it sounds. beyond level 20 you can only lvl up by chance - that is, if the right gear happens to drop for you. some of which has very low drop chances. so after level 20 you are going to kill the same hand full of bosses over and over and over again. 20 - 30 - 60 times the same fight to get that one piece of gear you need to level up.... This game is visual stunning and the game play is good. It is the worst example of false advertising I have seen in a long time. This game is NOT open world. It is NOT an MMO. A mediocre player can complete the entire linear story line, with its weak plot and worse dialogue in 12 hours and hit maximum level cap in 20-30 hours. Then begins the grind fest. Hoping against hope for loot and gear that will never drop. New weapons you will never see. The replay-ability is only high, if you can enjoy slamming your head against a wall over and over.

This game is a mind numbing grind, with little imagination. It needs a lore patch. It needs bugs fixed. It needs a LOT more content, which you will get, if you pay $100.00 for the expansions.

I rated this game soo low due to the excessive over-hype it received and shear disappointment I feel playing it. What should have been the game I drool and fawn over for the next 5 years, is now a pile of shards in my trash can. I would not even give this game away.

No matter what Bungie or Activision say - They sold content as DLC "Down Loadable Content" that was already on the disc. Regardless if it lacked place markers or enemies, the bulk of the work was already done. I will never buy another Bungie game after this. You have proven to be cash grabbing liars. Enjoy the money you already got from me, it will be the last.

Even a game like Halo 1 was way more ambitious in it's firefights with unique weapons/vehicles and enemies. Mission design is terrible, most of it does not take advantage of the open worlds instead leading you into small caves and indoor areas to do it's main battles.

End game content expects you grind through it's already repetitive content so you can play more repetitive content not to mention you'll need to hook up with other reluctant players because of bungie's refusal to basic cooperative features like matchmaking.

I actually don't mind repetitive content if it's good but here it's only mediocre here and the longer you play it's mediocrity only gets exponentially worse. On top of that this game's main focus is it's loot, but with such horrible weapon variety the urge to keep playing is not there at all. There is no story in the game if you care about that sort of thing, you have to look up the story online somewhere (I'm not kidding).

Ever wonder why Activision did not allow anyone to have an early review of the game? All those pre-order sales would have plummeted.
Ever wonder why Bungie has never released true player numbers?

A separate game was programmed for the beta to keep the hype train going. All of the development money was spent on having big name Hollywood actors voice 3-4 lines.

This game has been destroyed from it's original concept into a weak grind-fest for unrewarding nerfed weapons in a multiplayer that inherently cannot ever be balanced into a competitive scene. Which would be fine except they keep ruining the game to try and force the multiplayer to be competitive and balanced. There is almost no content in this game. You will replay the same 6 hours of missions until you want to vomit. At every single turn the game halts your progress with artificial gameplay extensions like limits on money, incredibly low drop rates for everything, and requiring ridiculously high amounts of resources for upgrades. This game takes many MMO RPG elements and puts them in a 1st person shooter, but doesn't even do the bare minimum of the required small things like, party finder, raid groups control, a competent way to pick where to start when people have started on the raid already, and the same goes for strikes also. There is no real teamwork besides don't die, there are no clever mechanics besides shoot the damage sponge, (unless you do the raid but like I said good luck even getting 5 other players that are at your skill level), level design is just wave defense non-stop. There are no real customization or re-customization options. No trading, no real path to earning specific gear it's all random, outdated engine, connection issues, no story, full of microtransactions, not to mention they ripped content out of the game to sell it back to us for twice the price so a game that was at one point complete and full was $60 and now is chopped up and nonsensical and costs $120. What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
