I received the game from a friend and no matter how hard i try to enjoy the game i just can't seem to like it, it was just so annoying how you just shoot endlessly at stuff... Sometime it took forever for nothing. I really don't like the game.

No matchmaking means you have to run around on the tower for ages trying to get people to join up, or you have to play with friends, which tbh I have no friends with a PS4...

The competitive multiplayer sucks, just generic and throw away

There is very little content, most of which is copy and pasted, you'll beat the game within a day.

The game has great shooter mechanics. which is it's only positive. it's bungie though, so what did you expected? they are the reason shooters on console are so popular. I just wonder how did everything else go wrong?

since I went through the positive lets go through the negative.

-bullet sponge enemies, every boss has high health for the sake of high health. it becomes a chore to kill bosses.

-repetitive strikes are the core of the game. every strike is "go here, kill wait for the robot thing to open a door, fight boss that takes forever to kill because it has high health" every boss feels the same too. they all spawn other enemies and they all just sit there eating bullets.

-the worlds feel lifeless and dead. they could have put the whole thing on earth and no one would have known you touched another planet. no humans are seen other than the tower. I'm sure people would at least attempt to scavenge stuff from earth.

    - story is non-existent. it's like a bunch of random ideas put together into a "story". there is no character development and you will see what you would think are major characters and never see them again! it's insanely poor.

    - poor character dialog. Peter Dinkleage is a great voice actor but the horrible writing kills his performance.

-Crucible is just boring. crucible is the pvp mode, it's bad. how the people who made halo messed up pvp idk. everyone has a sniper or shotgun because green (special) ammo drops like candy. map design for the most part is poor. vehicles are annoying more than awesome like in halo. it's just sad this happened.

-no mini map to see where you are going, the game worlds aren't big but they are a maze so getting to a certain area can be hard.

overall. destiny isn't the innovative experience people wanted. it's just a bad borderlands rip off with a crap PVP mode tacked on I am glad to see critics actually giving it poor reviews and people alike.

Also, the multiplayer is horribly imbalanced. Hunter and sunsinger warlock dominate every match, and the weapon and armor bonuses still being active in pvp makes it near impossible for a lower level person to win. The bounty system is bugged as well, giving bounties for playlists that are only available on weekends during weekdays. Add on numerous cutscenes that you can't skip, an absolutely atrocious story, fairly bad voice acting, boring choices of weapons, a lack of a community, and making it a real pain in the ass to get a group for weekly strikes, and you have a pretty awful game. If this game were $30 or $40 I would have a different opinion, but this game is absolutely not worth $60. Expand

Yes, this is a very linear game, which is the antithesis of an MMO, and probably its greatest failing. It also smells of "pay DLC", with Bungie opening up new linear parts of the game for $$$ - why give an open world for free when you can micro-transaction buyers to death?

Absolute disappointment. The gameplay is really the only thing that's here, theirs no story, and within the first few hours the gameplay becomes tedious as all you do is grind. Nothing of what they promised and implied would be in the game is in it. if your looking for that its probably a 0/10, if you look at it as a game that didn't promise that, its a 4/10.

Having played Last of Us to death on ps3 i deceided to dive straight in and start playing "Destiny". Now, let me tell you the good stuff first, since there is unfortunetly so little of it. As i was used to ps3 graphics and never played a ps4 before, this game visual presentation was earth shattering . Everything is absolutely gorgeous in this game. Truly "next gen". The textures used are insanely detailed, with beautiful lighting effects. Everything just is what you always hoped gaming would be one day since you first played that humble little Nintendo in 1985. and everything is running silky smooth with no fps slowdowns once. Amazing indeed.
Next Gunplay. Absolutely nailed it. Best gunplay i have had since, well, ever on any Playstation. That combined with the new ps4 controller and you have gameplay as smooth as butter. I really understand now why some Xbox only gamers have had so much love for Halo. Shooting and aiming guns is very satisfying and well above the standard.
The last good point i would like to point out is the amazing Hollywood blockbuster style soundtrack. You just have to hear it.
And that is about all the positive stuff i can tell you about this game.

The negative list is quite a bit longer s i am sorry to say.
The story is pure rubbish. Pure and utter crap, scraped from the bottom of the cheapest cliche barrel they could find. Let me give you an example here: the good guys are "The Light", and the bad guys "The Darkness". Yeah, no kidding. "The Darkness" is then sub divided in even more cliche sub factions such as "the Hive", "The Fallen" etc. This in itself would not be such a problem if there was actually a story to follow, but there isn't. To actually learn something about these factions, or anything for that matter, you will have to pause the game and head to a website and read the lore there. Serious, that is what you have to do. hardly any ingame story. And since i simply refused to get my story from a website out of priciple, all i was left with was basically a polished up 2014 version of space invaders. What little story there is ingame however is the worst of the worst. It explains nothing. You where dead, but was revived somhow after a few hundred years, yet no one bothers to explain it to me how or why. Later on in the game a character pops up and starts talking to me as if we know each other, but i never have seen her in my game once. Says she is too busy to explain or some crap like that and vanished. lol WTF?? She did give a gun when i "finished" the game though, which was nice i guess. And it goes on and on. The story simply makes no sense and is a huge let down. I actually think they would have been better off just cutting the story alltogether and make this a straight up hardcore shooter.

Then there is the voice acting. And boy, is it bad.
Bungie somehow managed to grab everyones favorite member of the Lannister family, Tyrion, aka Peter Dinkelage. And i am sorry to say, he blew it, and he blew it big time. I dont know if this is because of a lack of directing, or because he simply sucks as a voice actor. But he is so bad i wished he would stfu allready.
He plays this "ghost" which looks a bit like "Wheatley" from Portal 2. And he must surely be one of the most annoying game characters ever made by man. Play it, and you will find out because i just cannot bring myself to be so critical of the excelent Tyrion. Lets just say Peter Dinkelage is no Ashley Johnson / Troy Baker when it comes to voice over work.

Mission design is pathetic. Simplel as that. There are literally 2 "quests" in this game. Kill wave after wave, also known as point defense, horde mode etc. and there is kill the boss, which is pure bullet sponge tank and spank crap. That is all there is too it. No escort, no chases no nothing. It is embarassing to be honest.
Loot is hardly dropped by mobs make it even more boring than it already is, so you need to grind reps to get gear. There are a few daily "quests" to help you along though to obtain it a little faster. Fun quests such as KILL 10.000 guardians, no kidding. Make no mistake, this is grinding original everquest style.
It was after i read that quest btw that i ejected the game and traded it in for something else.

TLTR; this game is a complete outhouse of a mess. Stay away

This game is incredibly average. The story is basically Halo 1, but less fun because what little voice acting there is feels wooden and you never do anything that makes you feel remotely cool like escaping an exploding space ship in a car (admit it, when you were young and did that the first time you felt like a bad ass).

The story is basically Halo 1, but less fun because what little voice acting there is feels wooden and you never do anything that makes you feel remotely cool like escaping an exploding space ship in a car (admit it, when you were young and did that the first time you felt like a bad ass).
Every mission is literally exactly the same, land on a planet, fight to a secluded area, have your Ghost activate something then fight off waves of enemies, then after the waves a boss either spawns, or you head a little further in and fight a boss. That is it... every single mission in the storyline is exactly that, and the boss fights aren't even fun because there are no mechanics to it, you essentially hide behind something when they attack and then step out to fire.
Then you have the side mission of which there are only 4 variations, you either have to kill a bunch of enemies, kill a specific enemy, go somewhere and scan something, or kill a bunch of enemies and gather a certain item which is essentially the same as just killing a bunch of enemies.
The weapon and loot system is basically the same as borderlands except with at best a 10th of the variety. There are 9 weapon types, many of which are very similar, and within those types there is absolutely no variation.
Now you would think the online play would be redeeming, after all a game is much more fun with more people. Except the people you see playing have virtually no way to contact you or speak to you. There is no point in teaming up to do a mission since they are so incredibly easy, even "hard" mode isn't that much of a challenge.
The only online feature I enjoyed was the "strike" or dungeon system which was kind of fun because some bosses were vaguely difficult, but they did follow the same lack of mechanics as other bosses.

Pvp is not half as enjoyable as the mega-fans would have you believe. I think it would be better if there were more of it in the open world, but instead you get put into a limited arena. Once there you will notice how horribly unbalanced combat is. Since a titan has more survivability and there is virtually no difference in damage between the classes since everyone uses the same pool of weapons you either play as titan or die. Hunters can occasionally do well, but thats mostly because of the grenade that homes in when enemies get close and the ridiculously overpowered throwing knife which no other class has anything remotely comparable. Also forget about getting any kills without a sniper rifle, but thats pretty similar to many online shooters.
The world looks kind of pretty, but the graphics look more like mid last gen than early current gen. So the area you actually play in can look pretty dull, but the backdrop is beautiful.
The vehicle system is weak at its best moments, and I feel pretty ripped off with that crappy sparrow from pre-ordering.
Honestly it isn't too awful, the gameplay is moderately fun, but it is nothing new and personally i believe Halo did it better. It helps that I have a couple friends with the game and we play online on occasion.

I promise I am not just someone who is pissed that the game did not live up to the hype, but they definitely made some big promises on the originality and vast content and we have seen none of that. It isn't even like I haven't given the game a decent try, believe me when I say that I really, reeeeaaallllyyy, wanted to love this game. I played a Warlock all the way to 20 and have about 5 levels into a titan, I might work on a hunter to see if it is any better, but I wouldn't bet on it.

As for my particular score, I personally believe it should have a 6 or 7, but somebody has to counter the massive influx of undeserved perfect scores when at the very best this game might get an 8, and only if you had incredibly low expectations and very little experience with shooters.

Update: In a continued attempt to enjoy this game I played more. I had previously hit level 20, but other than a Mars Strike I didn't do much playing after level 20, so I decided to try some vanguard strikes and some other stuff. That is why I lowered the score which was previously a 5/10. All the people saying the game really opens up after level 20 either haven't hit level 20 or are total idiots. What happens is you get access to vanguard strikes which are essentially the same strikes you have been doing but with higher level enemies... that is it, no new content, the loot is awful (I did the level 20 strike and got a level 16 piece of gear), and in general the game actually got worse.

Now many people are saying that the game is going to get so much better with dlc and all of this other junk. I for one did not pay full price for less than half of a game, and I resent being required to pay $35 for what is bound to be another small portion of said game.

If it were possible to get my money back from Bungie I would.

I cry because destiny is a game that had epic potential... but WASTED it on a weak story, repetitive (at best) gameplay, and Peter Dinklage opening doors for you and giving pointless monologues that serve no purpose other than to make you hate the loading screens. The story is filled with SO much holes it's not funny, and Activison is now using DLC as an excuse to fill the holes. But the worst problem is being forced to play with a network connection. For the past 2 days, the PSN has been hacked by a group of dumbass 12 year old kids known only as the 'lizard squad', and even when they're done with their DDoS attacks, SONY has to patch everything that went wrong. Search up '#PSN' on Google/twitter and see what I mean. This is especially sad because this means you can't play destiny if you wanted to. Don't blame Bungie for that, internet, the lizard squad did it.

Overall, disappointing. Some missions are fun, yet still repetitive, and I've heard the dark below isn't doing all too well. Let's hope destiny 2 is good... if there even will BE a destiny 2.

Daily missions and strikes are all from campaign mission. Everything is a constant grind to grab the best gear to level up. Fighting low levels yield the same results as fighting high level bosses? The abilities and skills were pretty bland. Health and shield system is definitely ripped off Halo. No single player option. I'm pretty sure no one would really mind if you put the story back into the game and reset everyone back to lvl 0, We all just want our game back. Overall, **** and Gutted Story which showed more promise in late 2013 but excellent gameplay. Expand

I'm not a massive FPS fan in the first place and needed the game to give me something to NEED to play it. Destiny wasn't what I was hoping for, also I couldn't help but compare it to the other games that I was playing at the same time which were PS3 reboots of Tomb Raider and Last of Us. Both of those games made me want to keep playing. I thought a Next-Gen 'Masterpiece' should have done the same.

I'm sure the hardcore Halo and COD fans will like this game purely for the multiplayer aspect but don't buy the game for the story. It's pretty boring. Traded my game in already before the trade in price plummets!

i have this very minute finished the game and i can assure you its a huge let down, i had to actually YouTube the ending to make sure it was the same thing as i just witnessed, its the same concept as every other. You get on your sparrow ride through, get to a gate deploy ghost, he does his business, fight some enemies, go through a gate, kill some more goblin robots, then you are presented with fighting 3 of the boss's (all seperately) with the yellow writing (you will know what i mean if youve played it) and they are the EXACT same as the boss's from the previous level and i think they are also EASIER to kill, once youve done that the mission ending timer counts down, you go back to the tower and speak to the speaker, he does a little speech , THATS IT, not even any end credits!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it is the EXACT same as every other boring level.

the only thing i like about the game is the visuals and the levelling up but thats all pointless now, unless you fancy doing the same boring stuff in crucible over and over again.

You might see a trend here with the game - "repetitive" - awful!! - oh and certainly no replay value!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game while I think is great in many ways just falls short of what it was trying to be. This game tries to be a FPSMMO. While I think the gun play and mechanics are amazing for a shooter. This game falls short terribly on the MMO portion. The backstory and story itself is completely non existent. Some of the story you can get to by going outside the game itself to read on Bungie's website. The exotic weapons all have a story outside of the game where you can read about the weapons and stories with them. Why not include that in game to add to the immersion and excitement of getting a weapon. Playing through the campaign is saddening. It's the same exact thing over and over again. Deploy your ghost and defend him from the countless waves of enemies. In the story itself you feel no connection at all to the guardian you are playing or the city and Traveler you are defending. There are not enough cinematic story telling cut scenes either to keep you awed throughout your experience in game. Even in the raids in this game you don't feel as if a story is being told while you are progressing through the raid itself. There is no in game match making or in game chat besides randomly messaging people on PSN that you see in game but with typical MMO ethics that is not a good practice to do. In order to find a group for something you must once again leave the game and go to either Destinytracker, PlanetDestiny, or Reddit to find groups for raids and other end game activities. PvP is the only thing that is keeping this game alive for me. But even that has its drawbacks with the constant one shot barrage of ranged shotguns out there. Expand

First a little about me, I've never played Borderlands and I did not play the Call of Duty series so this review will not compare the game to either. I have however been an avid Halo player playing every single game since the original back on the Xbox. Based on how the Halo series developed and how Bungie put a lot of time into building out the series. They had established themselves even before Halo with Myth and Oni...with that being said there had been a lot of expectation with Destiny because Bungie was behind it. Unfortunately, I feel where the positive aspect of this review ends.
To say that Destiny was slightly a let down is understatement...its rather a big disappointment. Its certainly not deserving of a zero but far from perfection or even as was advertised a "game changing experience" I should clarify "game changing might be accurate if isolationism is an experience. The game plays more like a Beta in my opinion than a finished product. It lacks clear direction, i.e. a FPS that tries to play like an RPG...or an RPG that tries to play like an FPS which one is it? The result is a product that fails at its attempts to meet both. It actually isn't surprising to me while Bungie itself has had an impeccable history in terms of game development, no company can remain at the top forever. In the same way that Square was regarded as the "it" company with respect to RPGs to feel from grace...most interestingly enough after its merger with Enix. Bungie entered into a 10 year publishing agreement with Activision Blizzard...a company that itself has produced a variety of games but far from masterpieces. Games like Diablo, WOW, Starcraft and COD are all great series in their own regards and have certainly appealed to their niche groups however I would argue that they aren't masterpieces. Destiny however marketed itself to be just that. It clearly borrows from its Halo roots with tight controls and beautiful environments aspects that I can’t dispute that particular attention to detail had been put into however the game (at least at launch) is clearly missing things that make it..well enjoyable. The thing I loved MOST about the Halo series is that I had options. Options to go online and play multiplayer with random individuals, tackle missions, objectives, pop off zombies or just enjoy raw undisputed red vs blue but I also had the option to tackle on the main campaign. Now here is what I will say about Bungie in terms of storytelling, they’ve never truly been great at it. After several years of playing Halo there are obvious parts of the story that if I hadn’t done my own individual research, read about online or gathered from graphic novels/books I would be completely clueless to the story. I will say that the story of Master Chief had certainly expanded from Halo 1 up through Halo 3 (when it was in Bungie’s hands) so with that being said perhaps the same will come of Destiny.

All in all Destiny isn’t a bad game, but its certainly not a memorable one and at the moment not one that I feel I want to go back playing over and over again. I know there are players that enjoy the mundane task of grinding thru levels and levels over and over but for the casual player that likes to pick up and title and looks some substance I feel the game is well quite lacking. Honestly a shooter that caught me by surprise in terms of story and gameplay was Wolfenstien…I was SHOCKED at how good the game was and how much the series had progressed from the days of old and despite it not looking as “Nextgen” as games like Rome or the Last of Us I felt it was a great FPS. All in all I still have Farcry 4 which right now is looking to have lots of potential, than again it wasn’t marketed as being a “gamechanger”. Hopefully the marketing department will now learn to choose their words a little more carefully next time as they have the potential to alienate their demographics and ultimately hurt developer’s credibility in the long term. Will Destiny hurt Bungie that still remains to be seen? Can it recover? Considering they stated they will be dedicating 10 years to series only time will tell.

Destiny is a brilliantly professional first person shooter, created by people who know how to make great FPS games. Bungie and Activision the father's of Halo and Call of Duty. Their experience shows.

The world is BEAUTIFUL. You are on the Earth which is desolate and destroyed, on the moon which has a fantastic view of the Earth with visible ion storms, a broken up space station in the sky and a fantastic view of the Milky Way whenever you look above your head. Venus and Mars are equally fantastic.

The combat in this game is the best part, enhanced by in depth RPG elements. You traverse these planets killing enemies with powerful weapons that feel good to wield. The game feels heavy, you can feel your legs bending as you fall from great heights. Each weapon and piece of armour has levels associated to it which can be specifically chosen to enhance your particular characters features as you see fit.

But that is about all the positives I can say. The game is too short. I finished it in about two days of solid playing. Which is pathetic for a full priced game and one which is supposed to be lasting us the next ten years. Where the next expansion to this game isn't supposed to be hitting us until around the end of this year and it won't be free!

The level cap is 20. But you can continue to level based on something called "Light" which is a feature of high level armour that adds levels to your level 20 maximum. Most people have started to level off at about level 27/28. I have been playing just under two weeks and I am already at level 27.

This game is always online, so you need an internet connection. Despite this being online only, there is no in game voice chat. So there is almost no way you can find people in the game you don't know. If you play solo like me there is no way of making friends and playing in a group with people. Instead you have to go on the internet and sign up to a group manually and add the people on there to your friends list. Tedious and unnecessary in 2014.

The story of this game is the worst part about it. It is slow, hard to understand and lacking any sort of interesting features. Not even Peter Dinklage who plays Tyrion Lannister in the Game of Thrones TV adaptation could make this story any less dull. The missions all play out in the exact same fashion except the odd one. Your Ghost companion tries to scan something or open a door and enemies come at you. You defend against waves of enemies and once the last one is dead, your companion conveniently finishes whatever it was he was doing.

Once the story is over you have one task left. You have to scour the world for increasingly better armour to increase your light level and ultimately your characters level. The problem is once you have finished the main story line there is NOTHING new to experience in this game. PvP and Raids being the exception.

To find armour and weapons you have to kill enemies. The only enemies you can kill are in the same maps that the main story was held in which means you are running through the same environments over and over and over. Plus the enemies do not scale with your level which means not only are you going through the same environments, with the same enemies, they are also still low level meaning they offer no increased threat.

The process of finding armour is helped using Bounties and daily missions. They are easy and they have you doing the exact same missions I've just been talking about again and again and again.

For doing certain missions you get reputation and a currency called marks. Once you hit a certain rank in a certain faction you can buy their armour using the marks you just painstakingly collected from doing the same missions over and over. This game is a quick ending grind fest. All you will do in this game is grind, grind, grind.

The more astute amongst you will probably say "Well yes but MMO's are supposed to be like that. This isn't anything new.". Yes except that WoW didn't have ten years ago when it started ONLY TWO DAYS WORTH OF CONTENT! In WoW it takes many months building up a character before you get to the loot grinding. It appears Bungie didn't get that memo.

PvP. Anyone thinking this will be like Halo you are wrong. By which I mean one of the best multiplayer games available. PvP is barebones, tedious and really rather boring. There is nothing to keep you engaged in this mode, not even a leaderboard. Not to mention so far I have also encountered a considerable amount of lag while playing. Crucible has its own reputation rank and marks currency and its own set of armour you can buy.

Raids. Raids are a high end mission. Basically you need to be with a group of friends. Bungie refused to put matchmaking in for Raids so it is friends on your list or nothing. Needless to say the difficulty hump for this mode is considerable. The average gamer won't stand a chance.

This game has TONNES of potential but it isn't finished yet.

Which is just so dissapointing, I mean they give you the whole first planet in the beta, when I first stared playing destiny I was thinking that it was going to be a huge journy that was gonna last, but instead we got 4 hours of repetive shooting aliens. Armour and guns are very lacking, every armour/gun I have gotten has been just a different colour with a small increase in stats, I think I have actully seen maybe three different varients of armour. The multiplayer has its moments although it also doesn't really live up to the hype, there are only 4 different gamemodes( control which is where you fight to control certain points, a team death match, a free for all and skirmish which is just tdm but with 3v3 instead of 6v6) they seem fun at first but I can't honestly play more than 3 matches of any of these before being bored. Also the story just sucks I'm not even gonna go into that **** So my overall opinion of this game is that its very lacking, however did show potential, maybe they could redeem it with with a dlc but probably not, it was very overhyped which made me expect more, so pretty much if you can afford it maybe try it but I would keep the receipt. There is nothing new and groundbreaking in the FPS aspect of this game - in fact, most of the guns feel like recycled CoD guns with a sci-fi skin. This is disappointing after the variety of guns that the Halo universe introduced (Bungie made a lot of guns for this game, but too many feel and work exactly the same). Loot is not very well fleshed out for a game that promised to bring loot a new importance. Even uncommon, rare, and legendary loot don't push any new boundaries or mechanics - they work and feel very similar to the common loot drops in the world.

While the maps look great and the graphics are beautiful, the worlds just don't feel very interesting or inspired. Multiplayer is a mess - no matchmaking is a real problem. Bungie wants you team up with friends, which is great - when everyone's schedules are able to be worked out. But what about those times when I just want to tackle some bosses or harder content without a friend online? The Crucible PvP is fun at its core, but after playing a few matches it's quickly realized that there is very little depth to it. The story is not the highlight here, but having said that, I'm really unsure what the highlight of this game really is. The marketing, perhaps?

I know there is content to come to try to fill it out some but at release for a game that was many years in the making and so full of hype, Id rather stick with Halo or Borderlands. Expand

I was disappointed when I started harvesting ressources on earth when I realised there was only one and it wasn't used into a more intricate crafting system.

The enemy design is good, but the strike missions do get repetitive due to the lack of specific mechanics other than shootting / cover / clean adds / get bullets from dead adds.

There are too many loading screens, especially when going to the hub they're very annoying. The graphics are okay, but it's a bit sad having barely any control over your appearance, I Wish they atleast gave the option not to show helmet.

I think the issue is people are desperately trying to justify their PS4 purchase (also severely hyped), so they keep hoping the NEXT thing will be the best ever.

Please stop hurting the gaming industry by buying into the hype. It only encourages developers to continue churning out poor products.

In Destiny we're given a paltry four locations to discover, with missions that consist of go to a location, have your 'ghost' friend fix something while you fight of hordes of enemies and then come up against a boss at the end of the level with absurd amounts of health.

There are positives in the game - the shooting mechanics are solid, sometimes fun but mostly monotonous and of course the planets you discover look great. The AI are very good as well, using shields and cover intelligently enough to make the game a genuine challenge at higher levels.

The best thing about the game, however is the music - it creates a superb atmosphere and builds tension nicely during boss fights.

Unfortunately though, that's where the good ends. The repetition in this game is completely unacceptable - four decently sized areas is not enough to cover a game, and with the power developers now have at their disposal it's lazy and seems like there will be bucketloads of DLC for customers to spend their hard earned cash on.

Once you've finished the game, the only realistic option to further your progress is to replay the boss fights, but considering there are only four of them you can imagine this gets boring quickly.

The weapons all feel the same and armor barely even makes any sort of cosmetic change to one's character, even though there are three sub classes and hundreds of bits of armor in the game everyone looks the same (color excluded).

I know the story is tacked on and not important, but they could have given it more thought and imagination. It has to be congratulated for taking one of the most talented and recognizable voice actors at present and making him sound like a generic, uninterested voice. I genuinely had no idea ghost was Peter Dinklage until I read it after completing the game.

PvP is okay, but nothing special. Higher level players gain too much of an advantage and weapons do too much damage - you can't have epic firefights when guardians are dead within a couple of shots. Map design is again just okay, and I can't say I like knowing exactly where enemies are all the time from the radar - if they're not firing they should not appear on there.

Overall, Destiny is a massive disappointment - it will almost certainly improve with added DLC but I won't be around to purchase it. It seems to be a common trend for games these days to provide a bare bones games and then add to it with DLC and/or microtransactions (yes I'm looking at you EA). I hope Destiny fails, as it represents a lot of what's wrong with gaming at the moment, I don't like being part of this next generation.

    Cons (prepare yourself)
    - Short, you can beat this game way to quickly, spend about a day and a half and you've seen everything there is to see
    - No legitimate reason to make any class twice
    - Advertised as an MMO, not an MMO not even close
    - The last city on earth is 3 building that you visit to only find out what drops you have
    - Teams consist of 3 (WAIT WHAT!?)
    - Earth/Moon/Venus/Mars, thats it, hope you dont beat the game too quickly, because you've just seen every area
    - No end game, no new stories, no new places to visit, just revisit all the old things..over..and over..and over
    - Drops are random, even in pvp, no skill, no end goal, just random (example i can go 56-0 and get nothing, but the 20 who just went 0-50 got a legendary drop)
    - In addition to drops are random, there is no true "worth" of any item, with the lack of at least a good trade system, or buy and sell system, its pointless.
    - Drops are happening WAY to often, the fact that its been out for less than a week, and i'm already fully decked out in rares/legendaries, its insane
    - Zero reason to really replay the game more than once unless you want a hunter for pvp
    - PvP is broken right now, if you want to truly rule, luck out with a great auto rife and a hunter class
    - No real cities where all the players can relax, a small hub that offers nothing but shops to buy things
    - One city...just once city
    - the inability to chat in the city to get a group of players going...even though you can only really run a mission with three
    - There is no point in just "roaming" a planet, no benefit, no secret crazy treasure, just a random zone event which means your either fending off waves of npcs or chasing an npc down to kill it
    - Virtually impossible to communicate to another player without inviting him/her to a party (imagine trying to find a party to play with none of your friends on..god luck
    - Why would anyone want to legit level a warlock when you legit found out the benefits of a titan or a hunter passed level 20. Titans get amazing armor, Hunters get great speed, warlocks get...recovery?
    - When you hit level 20, you gain more levels by light, to get this light you need to find armor that has additional light, to find this armor you have to either play PVP or redo the same missions over and over again. Basically replay the same strike missions until you realize your over it
    - It sad but i can keep going for at least another 15 lines, but i'm over it. HUGE disappointment and you can already see the people leaving the game

All in all people expected a clash of Mass effect 3, Halo, and borderlands. What they got was an over hyped game thats aims at the only way to level is playing long hours to hopefully get a random drop that you essentially didn't deserve...

And that pretty much summarizes my experience with Destiny. If you want to play any of the genres this game "touches" you do have cheaper and much better alternatives:
Wanna FPS looting madness? Borderlands is better.
Want an "old school" FPS? Battlefield 4 is better.
Want a Sci-Fi RPG? Mass Effect is MUCH better.
Trust me, if you have a single doubt do not buy this game, as in the end is a standard shooter with bland mechanics borrowed from other genres without contributing in any meaningful way to game development in the most wider sense of the term.
An utterly forgettable experience. I am scoring it as a 4 due to the art and graphics (if this actually counts something towards reviewing a game nowadays) and out of pure nostalgia of the Halo series, as I cannot believe this game was developed by Bungie for over 5 years.

Then I saw Activision's investment skyrocketing this game's funding to some 500+ million dollars. That is an absurd amount of money for a game as lack luster, unimaginative, and repetitive as this one. This game seems to stem from already established franchises, takes what is perceived to be their best traits and smashes them all in one cluster **** of a game with really pretty visuals. The franchises they basically stole from are star wars (speeder bike and rancor bosses), borderlands (bit of cell shading type visual and overall gameplay style), Halo (arguably their own creation but it still is just too similar) and warframe (free mmofps with like 5x the amount of content but also 2x the amount of grinding). First off this game is far from an mmo, it's desolate infact it is almost a miracle to see someone outside of the tower and the public events borderline never happen. As everyone has already mentioned this game has quite possibly the most generic boring ass storyline I have ever seen. Whoever said it takes 20 hours to beat is insane me and two friends beat the story in just under 12 hours. We didn't rush it, just once you get the basic mechanics and since everything is rehash of itself, enemies and underground caverns alike. It gets pretty simple to recognize the pattern and quickly breeze through. I'm not degrading the game just because I'm mad I wasted $100 but because I made the same mistake I made with Diablo 3, and watch dogs. I believed in the company and paid in advance. If there is one piece of advice you take from this critique its just wait some time after an overhyped games release then purchase it based on the general mass' opinion. Hopefully this game will get better over time, however based on bungie's track record of post release content it generally takes them between 3-8 months to release a few maps for halo games. How long will it take them to release meaningful content, like more raids, better player interaction, a ****ing trading system... Anyhow going to take this game back and get what little money I can from gamestop and probably put this something worth it like freaking minecraft. Expand

In terms of the open world aspect, it is just a large desert like area with the odd building dotted around guarded by AI (but they aren't protecting anything of value). The actual missions are fairly entertaining once you move on to the final 'boss', but it's just the same stuff, different alien. Even the missions require you to walk through the exact same buildings several times until you eventually go into a different and uninteresting room.

Despite all of my negative comments, the game plays very well and the graphics are okay. To me it just looks like Halo 4 (nothing special). None of the spaces are interesting or offer a good area for fighting an enemy. The only way this game would be successful from here is if they continued to add interesting DLC, but I will not be paying £30 for a couple of extra maps and missions. I keep going back to this game as I believe there are no other half decent games on the market in this genre. The biggest disappointment is how Bungie sold this to us and claimed it was huge open worlds with diverse game play. To sum it up in one sentence: More evidence next gen is underwhelming.

Now, I want to state my case. I know many people who like the game will hate this review. That's fine. You somehow find enjoyment where i can't. But here is my case.

I'll summarize the gameplay: It's FANTASTIC! Possibly the best shooting mechanics I have ever played.

Leveling up? It's fun and rewarding. The classes could use more variation, but you're going to like the class you chose.

Loot? Annoying, but it has a system that works, but can be vastly improved.

No voice chat? I actually found that to work well. I found the bond between me and my strike team to be a lot better when we couldn't communicate. I don't know if there is voice chat now, or if there ever was, but so far none of my teams could speak. I felt that was awesome.

Now, on to my main part:

Multiplayer? It's not the best, but it is really fun.

    SETTING:

Destiny offers promise, but doesn't deliver. This game sets itself up to be a huge open world MMO. The worlds look stunning. The only problem is, it doesn't feel like it's an open world once you start delving into it a lot more.

The worlds, like I said, are great, but there are so many invisible walls! I know, many games have invisible walls. Fallout New Vegas, one of my favorite RPG's, has them. But here, they are put in the wrong places. There are also many areas that look like you can go into them, but only for me to find out that I died as soon as I stepped foot in it.

I was on my sparrow on mars. I was riding around, and I found these HUGE sand dunes. I wanted to be a badass and jump over them. only to find out there was a height limit. I couldn't go over them. I was on the moon, and there was a huge crater. It looks shallow enough for me to step in. I went in, and I died after it showed me a TURN BACK message.

It makes Destiny's open world feel like a hand-held path. Sure, you can go left or right, but I want to go up or down. You have to follow their path.

Open world's allow you to go in any direction. Is there a tunnel with level 500 enemies but you're only level 5? You really want to explore the area ahead though? Go over the tunnel if you can. You found an exploit that allows you to climb very steep mountains? No one's gonna patch it. Climb the mountain! The open world's feel like they just want to lead you through it.

    STORY:

Now, you've heard negative things about the story. And I'm sorry, guys, but I've read every Grimoire cards. I still have more questions than answers. Why am I here? Where did the hive originate?

I know future content is being added, but I feel like it's gonna be the same as the current game. Do the mission, read the mission summary, now you have more answers with Grimoire Cards. It's annoying, and looking at the glitch that shows the future content, it looks like it will be that way from out the menus look.

You have no motivation. Your character has no motivation. In a logical sense, my character could say, "Yeah you chose me. You're not explaining things to me. There are millions of other guardians. I'm gonna go to the city, rent an apartment, and chill out there. They can do the job unless you can explain these things tome. And don't say you don't have time to explain why you don't have time to explain." That last line was in the actual game. They have the AUDACITY to say they don't have time to explain why they can't explain.

Overall, it's a fun game to play, but you find yourself finding no reason to play it. It feels like it's pretending to be open world, and you have no motivation to kill these monsters you are fighting. I'm not recommending it. Maybe check it out in the future if they add content, but don't buy the current game.

Although the game was pitched and hyped very well, I find the content reminiscent of some Korean MMOs. In fact, the lack of story content is very disappointing. First thing I noticed, after buying the game soon after the release, was advertisement of expansion packs from day1 - this was the first warning message as I know what it smells like (LITE version of the product with DLCs which multiple the price of the final product by 4.
But heck, if the game is really cool, I can survive that (have quite some experience with MMORPG products that follow the same route).

So to give you an idea on my feelings after playing bit beta:
Shooting felt satisfying, graphis were nice and the idea of online pve shooter in Sci-fi environment sounded plausible. After an hour or two sessions during the beta, I felt bit bored and always went back to other games I had. Game looked polished, shooting was fine, but it was just missing something which is not easy to describe with one particular word - it felt like a shooter mix with a little bit of other games, without actual good plan on how to put things together to give players a feeling of a complete product.
    - You do have Tower as a base, but I kind of assumed there will be few of those and they will be full of life and interaction once the game goes life.
    - There are different missions and areas on the planet, but you basically start from same point and go little bit further or turn once different direction for smaller area which is designed for this particular mission.
    - Other players are on the same map, but you cannot communicate with them unless they are in your fireteam and they might be basically doing some other mission or patrol in similar area, so wont help you much in your duty.
    - weapons have stats and slightly different looks, but we've seen them all and they look more like from game set in 2020 than production set long long time in the future.
    - there are skills but I did not really feel any diversity between classes

Those were my few points I noticed after some hours with Beta, hoping that there is some more as lvl cap was 20 and I reached only lvl 6 and was on the first planet. After all shooting as a core was done very well!

So I bought the game with hope that the full version has some more to offer than I already saw.
Indeed there were more planets, the story went further (so I assume from poping up notifications to visit website), I leveled higher and improved my character.
Problem is, it felt like "mishmash" and that the Beta had everything the full game has to offer.

I tried to follow the story, but the missions were so uninspiring that I forgot what the story is about very fast. With nice cinematics at the beginning of the journey, you would expect some nice cutscenes implemented in the game. Missions are always the same... and I don't think the word "same" is exaggeration. You go to spot B, deploy ghost who does some decoding, etc. while he works you defeat few waves of enemies, go to another spot and defeat level boss with minions. boss fights are always the same - kill minions, jump out, hit boss weak spot and hide again to regenerate.
I haven't played engame, as after reading that it is just same strikes I have just been to and doing them on higher level (which means more hp of enemies), I decided it is not my style of grinding.

Communication and feeling of belonging to a community in this game is made very bad, in my opinion. Unless community is considered as a fireteam created with friends from PSN, then Bungie did heck of a job to prevent getting to know new folks and have fun together. Biggest flaws I find are little amount of people in Tower you can meet, no chat even though console supports external keyboard. There is also no trading with other players or any clan/guild functionality.

Other issue is loot and its variety. There are few types of weapons but they are not really inspiring weapons. Shotgun looks like a shotgun, rifle like a rifle. Weapons have different stats and colours, but I have not noticed much of a difference between the look of weapon on lvl 3 till end of the game.

Games I have played with focus on loot grinding were more enjoyable, but have to say that some of them started also from the wrong foot and improved as the game developed, which might be the case for Destiny's destiny.

The game had some nice moments, like first strikes which I attended were quite fun and had this feeling of a relief after clearing the last boss. However, after doing it for a while, it lost fun factor and I had to force myself to clear them, which should not be the case.

Please note that I did not have friends to play with, so I either played alone or strikes with PUG.
I guess the experience enhances with few good folks you can have fun with, but well, I didn't buy into this game enough to keep it for months on the shelf to see how company develops it

Destiny for me had a very promising start. The graphics weren't game changing but everything looked nice and the game had a nice feel to it. The gun play was very satisfying; enjoyed shooting aliens in the face. The biggest issue with Destiny I had off the bat was a very poor execution of the story. The story was just some monologue or briefing before each mission with some cut scenes you can't skip that are occasionally mixed in. Other then that, my first week with Destiny was a blast.

However, after about playing for the game for maybe about 15 hours and leveling up my character to 20, I suddenly found myself disliking the game. For me, after 15 hours I pretty much beat the game. At that point I already saw everything the game has to offer and playing the game further was just replaying the same things over and over. I get the impression that either rushed the release of the game or purposefully left out content so they can milk more money through DLC. Not a good feeling to have about a game.

This shallow level of content is severely exacerbated by completely changing the leveling system from a traditional experience based system to a loot based system. Once you hit level 20, you can only level your character by collecting a certain stat called light on gear. The gear can be obtained either through drops like a MMO or buying gear from a vendor with a special currency called marks. Getting gear through drops is pretty much random. There is no guaranteed gear from killing bosses or completing their version of instances. Also the drops are some weird blank slate where you have to go the city and some guy transforms the thingy into actual gear you can use. I don't understand why they don't just drop the loot directly, as is usually the case before level 20. One can also buy special gear from a vendor using a different currency system called marks. I found that obtaining enough marks for gear would require lots of grinding. On top of that, their are weekly limits to how many marks you can get. So even if you wanted to do endless grinding, you have a weekly cap limit to deal with.

The combination of lack content and designing the game to suddenly become a slow grind forced me to completely change my opinion on the game. I truly enjoyed the game the first week or so. Then I basically beat the game and the game tried to pass of replaying the same stuff over and over again as content. I honestly felt insulted. The designers think that I am willing to put in hours and hours playing the same missions to slowly level my fictional character and obtain fake gear. I like playing games because they are fun. Destiny after 15 hours is not fun at all. It suddenly becomes a chore.

There is also pvp in it but its nothing special but its not horrible. The interesting part is that enemies always show up on your radar, so gunfights are always head to head battles and rarely does someone get the drop on another player. I'm on the fence about the radar but it at least you know where campers are. The worst thing about the pvp is that the weapon balance is awful. Everyone uses the same weapon load out.

Destiny started off great but there was a huge and very sudden drop off in quality. I would have felt slightly better if they just ended the game after the 15 hours of content they had. I would have still been upset with the lack of content but I at least would not have felt so insulted like I do now. The game honestly does start out well but the game quickly runs out of content and this is made so much worse by the developers forcing players to suddenly put in hours and hours of grinding right when the player has seen everything the game has to offer.

Game looked awesome back in 2013. The vidocs released on YouTube show an amazing, dynamic and organic world. I guess we'll never know what happened during the last year but it's kinda obvious that Bungie sacrificed their name and legacy for Activision's greed.

Ripped off story, repetitive gameplay, lack of content and functionality. It really does deliver some nice visuals and music, but, apart from that, Destiny feels like an empty and soulless shell of what it could have been.

The good parts end there. Everything else is decidedly lackluster.

The story is a complete mess. Almost nothing is explained, and what little is explained either doesn't make sense or sounds downright silly. You spend 90% of the game listening to Peter Dinklage phoning in some lines as a faceless floating robot, and the hundredth time you hear him talk about "the Light" versus "the Darkness" you will want to grab a baseball bat and knock him out of orbit. A few other characters are introduced, but they never appear for more than 2 of the game's sparse cutscenes and never get any development.

The world feels dead, like Mass Effect if you took out all the NPC's and story (the things that make Mass Effect good). If you want to understand what's going on, you have to quit the game and visit Bungie's website to read the "Grimoire" that explains the lore. Why is the Grimoire not accessible in the game, like Mass Effect's codex? Eventually you reach stumble upon the game's final mission without even realizing it's the "ending," and are treated to an unsatisfying "it's not over yet lol" final cutscene. Buy the DLC "expansion packs" to see more! As if you'd care?

So, off to enjoy the multiplayer! But you'll get bored pretty quickly. There is no planetary exploration - every planet is a long winding corridor connecting a few playable areas. They are filled with random quests in which an barely-related stock voiceover is played and then some text tells you to either "go to a place" or "kill lots of things." Co-op "strike" (dungeon) missions always end with a final boss that requires no strategy more complex than "shoot it in the head for 10 minutes straight until it dies." The Crucible (adversarial PVP) is fun, but limited to a few "rooms" with pre-defined rules (don't expect to make your own like in Halo), and one-hit-kill "supers" start to get very annoying. And one of the worst things about the game when compared with Halo is the complete lack of vehicles (there are two - basically a Ghost and a Brute Chopper) and no large maps to use them in.

Even the MMO/Diablo loot-grinding aspects are poorly designed. All enemies have an equal chance of dropping good loot, so there's no real incentive to go after hard boss monsters. You're better of slaughtering weaklings. If any enemy drops a purple "legendary engram" and you take it back to the Tower to "decode", it often gives you a blue-quality item instead. So why call them "legendary" and make them purple? Just to troll players? Leveling up past 20 is all about grinding for good loot with higher "Light" scores. Instead of picking your favorite equipment with the best looks and powers, your loadoutis dictated to you by whatever has the most Light.

Don't get me wrong - Destiny can still be fun to play, especially with friends. And if you get addicted to loot grinds, this one has quite a lot of grinding to hook you, despite its weak design. But you know what? There are plenty of free-to-play games that provide those things. The only things Destiny might offer over those F2P games are its level of polish and art style. But you have to ask yourself: are those things worth $60 to you, plus online fees and DLC prices?

If you want my opinion: No, not really.

Pretty disappointing for a long-time Bungie fan.

However, in regards to the content of the game, the model that Activision/Bungie and other companies seem to be operating on now is the "pay now for half the game, pay more for the rest later". This game is another example of how the gaming society is showing developers/publishers that the DLC model is the way to go. Remember when games were finished and actual DLC was HOURS worth of content? Remember when they were called "Expansion Packs"?. Destiny had (and has) a lot of potential. so my review is based off of 40+hrs of play time and what i read in review before release on game informer and other various gaming sites of what was expected. and after my play through and before reading other post-launch reviews. so bare with me as i start with the pros

    PROS:
-the game control feel solid and don't feel badly mapped or clunky. played halo and you got them memorized already. pluses all around

-the set design for stages feel well thought out and design. every planet (and moon) feels alive. for instance the earth shot from the moon. you see earth as it rotates around the sun from darkness to light.

-multiplayer, reference the first pro from this list. its what keep this game from lower scores

    - and if you have played BL2 or any other grind fest game then you're used to co-op and grinding for better loot and skins

-killing a boss in a slug fest fight is fun with friends. the sense of "f**k yeah"

    CONS:
-unlike BL2 the co-op fun that you had trading loot of guns or skins you don't want with friends. Is not there period, you're stuck with it until you do the game way "trading" and that suck even more cause decent loot drops are rare. and sometimes lopped sided. like your star player goes just "hammer time" on a raid or multi-player and gets what is equivalent to a common white weapon while the "walking bait" member gets legendary orange

-difference in term of playing style of characters is negligible. beside the accustomed special move they don't effect your strategy as like the guns you want equip your character. will using this be better suited for my titan "soldier" abilities or my friends warlock "gun wizard" much as other MMO player classes. but remember CON 1 "no player trading" so optimizing is out of the questing

-multi-player need some type of nerfing to limit one shot kills against other oR new players. take note i haven't played the game much after leveling past 25 so i don't really know the state of it so far.

-maps are to linear and small for game of this size and budget. enter same spot...exit same spot on other side of map.

-the story will run 7-12 hr if you minimize deaths and play as a team. But a game this size and buget should have 7-12hrs of story. better yet NO MMO should have that. end game should be a sprint to the finish. something you can finish in the first day of playing. IT'S A MMO story is your backbone the lore behind it is what keeps people searching maps for artifacts and playing in general. Your paying 60+ dollars of exposition not the real story. just setup for the day one DLC...more money (i know it's not released yet but it was announced with the games release.)

    - mission design was to simple and repetitive. go to objective A. I can't open the door but i can hack it. Defend our position until i can finish. Doors open go to object B. Oh snap door is locked but i can hack it....all doors open, all waves hoarded lets go to venus and do the same thing. There is no variety like doors is closed and i cant hack it. blow it the open or we must push our way threw the enemy base to find another way in.

-raids are exactly the same bosses don't provide new strategy to the next run through. just become bullet sponges and make fights last hours while using the same combination of lines to beat them. No "you want to run left to avoid my attack I'll send a add-on to force you right" or "i have a new AoE to make you rage cause you don't have armor or weapon to counter"

-after shoveling out 60+ dollars you have to more money (dlc) to get more story run time. more gun with hopefully better loot drops. and more mission variety. i understand dlc to add-on to the player experience but not to add-on to a bare-bone game.
It is equivalent to going to a 5 star restaurant (bungie/activision) and asking for the $60 beef stew and they give you gravy. you asked the waiter where the other stuff in the picture (per-release hype from bungie) you have to pay another 35 for the steak and vegetables (content). we got it right here ready to drop (DLC) but are you willing to pay for it.

    conclusion
Its a very fun polished game you will have fun but where do you draw the line of fun and cheap ploy of a 5 star game pulling 2 star game moves. And thats why i gave this game a 4 cause of the glaring cons of a business model bungie/activision are trying to pull. its 10 yr life cycle is really 5-6 stretched thin i mean really thin to make up development cost (first game) and gouge the consumer of more money (dlc). you don't pay full msrp price car for the chassis with no interior or engine. and you don't buy a game for full price without story or content. sale price yes full NOPE. if you have fun with this game all the power to you "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness". But if for any reason you didn't like this game for defined reason keep the game don't but anything else for it until bungie makes it worth while.

    DON't BELIEVE THE HYPE

We complained about the beta, they told us to wait for the release. We're now complaining about the release and they're telling us to wait for the expansions -- after all, it's a ten year game! As long as you fork out the cash for each expansion. This is a very common mentality among those who think it's a good game.

The bottom line is that while it's yet another generic FPS, it doesn't even live up to that poor standard. It has absolutely fantastic art direction and vision, but it feels like they finished the game and then went back to tear out all the content so they could sell it to us as expansions. There is no story; the game only alludes to one but even then it's right out of a high school creative writing class.

I could almost agree that the core mechanics are solid, except they're not at all -- and deceptively so. The critical hit box for PvE enemies is big enough that you can shoot over their shoulder, in their stomach, or sometimes even on their rear and still watch the head pop. Not to mention the extremely strong aim assist. It's designed to make people feel like they're good at it regardless of their actual skill level. If you're a player who typically prides yourself on getting head shots, you'll feel robbed once you realize it's lying to you with a smile.

The PvP has much better hit boxes, but it has a whole slew of other problems. It's completely unbalanced -- Bungie themselves admitted as much in their public statement made after closing the loot cave. Need I even mention how broken the supers are? There's not enough class distinction, but the class distinction that exists makes this a laugh of a competitive game. Then of course, you have the persistent lag (count on killing someone, then having their corpse kill you 2-3 seconds later) and the frequent disconnections (it even fails to tell users what happened, so everybody thinks everybody else chose to leave the game).

Continuing my critique of the PvP, they have a few different match types but for absolutely no reason. Kills are the most important factor in every match type. In control, you're far better off capturing a point and sitting in a corner for the rest of the match to slaughter every incoming enemy than you are actually trying to go capture other control points. I can't recall how many matches I've played where the person who captured the most points was last on the leaderboard simply because the only thing that really matters is kills. Furthermore, the game gives you zero ability to customize a PvP match -- this is 13 years after the very first Halo game, which gave us myriad different PvP match types and options to fiddle with.

The last point I want to make is about the general amount of content in the game, the loot system and Bungie's "updates". Bungie's number one priority is to slow players down as much as possible, which is why they "fixed" the loot cave and basically nothing else. I don't think the loot cave should stay in the game, but they completely avoided fixing the real problem: the game's utter lack of content. The reason the loot generation is terrible is that they have to continue to give you the same atrocious gear over and over. The alternative is people progressing at a reasonable pace and then quickly realizing there is no endgame here.

For any of you wondering (because some have assumed little playtime in order to discredit harsh but accurate reviewers), I've put north of 70 hours into this game — I have a level 27 Warlock. I've been very determined to get my money's worth in spite of the fury I feel every single time I play.

To each their own, I don't begrudge anybody their enjoyment of this game or any other game which I consider to be terrible. But this is yet another example of publishers and developers treating their core demographic like mouth-breathing cash cows and yet they keep raking in the millions. It does say something about that core demographic.

At random you can get kicked out of the destiny servers in the middle mission which they released a patch to fix. You have to be online at all times to play which is stupid beyond any belief. And then after you hit lvl 20 guess what you get to grind for light armor which is a terrible system. And then there are the engrams which are given through a random number generator that shown several times to favor people who do terrible in multiplayer or a mission and give the people who did good nothing. And then in crucible which is one of the only redeeming values in this game is currently filled with fusion rifle users that do one hit-kills and hunters using the subclass Blade Dancer that needs to be nerfed immediately. Also the bosses... I have never in my life seen bosses this poorly done in my life as a gamer I mean this is bad very very bad Spoiler btw the final boss (if you can even call it that) is literally 3 minotaurs which are basically Vex Captains and that is the boss ladies and gentlemen, the fight was so bland and easy that my friend decided to start jumping in front of the bosses to make the fight more exciting. And even before fighting the 3 enemies that are together the collective boss you don't actually fight the main villain which is the darkness it just explodes after you kill the minotaurs leaving the player sitting their in confusion thinking "really that's it". Also on a final note you build bonds other than bonds of hatred towards any character in this game your own vanguards barely speak to you the gunsmith is useless after lvl.16-18 the cryptarch is just an **** who will decode engrams that you finally get after killing so many enemies and can give you equipment that is a lower lvl and finally the mysterious stranger exo chick adds almost nothing to the plot. And finally the biggest thing that really isn't explained is the Traveler, in the entirety of the story you are never once told what the Traveler is capable of doing, how the Traveler exactly preforms it's miracles, and how it's even still alive when it's main enemy forces are surrounding it. From beginning to end not once is the Traveler acted by any of the enemy forces and one of them have the ability to destroy planets or move them at will and not once do they do this even they easily could. So in conclusion I give this game a 4/10 ONLY because it can be entertaining....if you have friends playing as well, it functions for the most part, and that before the Blade Dancer fad appeared Crucible was balanced for the most part. The overall way the combat feels is excellent and is easy to pick up. However that is as far as the praise will go. You will find yourself spending a majority of your experience grinding for hours on end just to get better loot. The RNG loot system is completely ridiculous and requires no skill or effort to get better items, just great amounts of luck and hours of killing the same enemies over and over. Game play is also very repetitive, it's the same formula through the whole game. Just kill waves and waves of the same enemy till you get the next objective. The amount of defend missions that are used in this game is ridiculous, it's as if the developers just gave up half was through and chose to give us nothing innovative by way of game play.

The story is extremely bland and does little in immersing the player, it refuses to explain anything that is going on because the writers were too damn lazy to do it themselves. And the so called 'character customization' is downright insulting, the amount of options available to the customization is bare bones, leaving you with a character who is just as generic and boring as everyone else you see.

Boss battles are very anti climactic and require no strategy to win. The enemy variety is very small and none of them are introduced properly.

The art design and environments are beautiful, which is a pity because there is zero incentive to actually explore the world around you because you receive nothing for doing so.

The multiplayer is probably the most amount of fun i had for my whole experience. Which isn't saying very much because of how low the bar was set, it managed to entertain me for a few hours. But just like the campaign it becomes a repetitive flow with nothing that stands out.

Overall Destiny is nothing but a generic fps game that delivers nothing by way of innovation. There are a number of games out there like this that cost less and deliver much more fun than you will ever get from Destiny. However those of you who enjoy endless grinding will have the time of your lives. But if you're a person who likes a strong story coupled with interesting and diverse game play. Then Destiny is not the game for you.

    - 6 hr campaign
    - Boring after 10 hrs
    - Obvious portions of the story (levels) missing because they were cut into DLC
    - Shallow leveling system
    - Worlds are rather empty
    - Missions are !!beyond!! repetitive
    - Space = loading screen
    - Voice acting
    - Halo clone, but not in name

Unfortunately this is simply a mess. The mechanics are solid and it looks beautiful, but that's it. The story is very weak, with plenty of holes, and utilizes Dinklage as an exposition bot. Leveling up in RPG's happens within the worlds, however, the world of Halo.. I mean Destiny... is so quickly conquered you are left wondering how to keep leveling up. Well, here's the level up formula in this game:

    LVL 30 = [10 (20 Missions at average of .5hr) x 100 (playthroughs)] + [50 (hours) x 6 (match types)] + [Random Loot avg 30hrs] = 1330 hours or 55ish days

Okay, that's a slight exaggeration, but you get the point. A game can not be build solely on repetition.

The game becomes a loot hunt after only 10 hrs in worlds this small, then what you have on your hands is a terrible MMO hybrid that isn't worth your time.

But they fail to totally make up for its problems:
    **Weak story
    **Unsatisfying loot grind
**No matchmaking for its most compelling mode (raids)
**Overall feeling of being cheated by its incomplete main game and DLCs

Other $60 games I've pre-ordered are Dragon Age: Inquisition and Witcher 3, and while they're certainly different types of games (so maybe it's unfair to compare them), I have a hard time ignoring how easy it is for me to disparage Destiny's overall consumer value in light of such worthwhile games. If you haven't already bought the DLC packs, I urge you to stay away. Don't allow this to be the norm. We (gamers) made a difference when it came to Xbox One's launch shenanigans, and now things are better! Vote with your wallet.

It is very rarely that I leave a game early or do not finish and I left this game within a week

Mechanics, graphics were good and gameplay were really good, but it became really really repetitive within a matter of days. Missions became a blur of the same followed by the same, go to a location, kill, obtain an item, repeat...

Story: Scattered, dismiss able, and shallow.
Graphics: Beautiful and varied, this game shone brightest here!
Variety: Please...5 or 6 multiplayer maps came up for me 95% of the time on the few offerings of game modes, 6 strikes (3 of them making up 95% of the 'random' strikes), and repeated, dull enemies.
Replay Value: Not long...10 years of content to come, but 2 weeks of fun, 2 weeks of frustration, and ultimately, a break up in the end.

If you enjoy it, good for you. If not, there is plenty more out ther to love!

    Pros:
    Very good mechanics.
Good graphics. Fun weapon designs. Enjoyable PvP Cons: The story is weak and poorly constructed. I hadn't played an FPS shooter in several years and was able to complete the main campaign in a week, only playing an hour or two after work. The DLC was done so poorly it makes you wonder if Bungie has anyone who has ever played a MMO style game left on

I would not recommend buying this game or its DLC's at full price.

I am giving this game a 4/10 as the base chassis of this game still has a great deal of promise, if I were simply basing it on Bungie/Activision's behavior since launch, I would give it a 0.

The multiplayer is good but it has cheap one shoot kill weapons that can piss you off to no end, and I personally dont like the multiplayer because if i want to play a game where i shoot people and laugh how they die then I would play Call of Duty . I expected more from this game but its a big disappointment and I feel like it is a scam. If you want to sell DLC later on for this game... great, but at least give us a COMPLETE version of the game on the release, ($65 is a lot of money for this incomplete game)
The reason why im giving 4 out of 10 is the fact that this game has amazing graphics and soundtracks but bessides those everything looks cheap and lazy from a big video game industry like Bungie.

    The Good
    +Gameplay
    +Aesthetics
+Peter Dinklage. The wonderful actor voices your personal assistant the "Ghost", and adds up to the overall experience
+Sci-fi Atmosphere. Amazing landscapes and buildings, nice particle effects and good npc models reminiscent of the halo franchise in some way.
+Solid Multi-Player except the faulty matchmaking system.
    +Useful Companion app
    +First 20 levels you achieve

    The Bad
-Shared-world. The shared world recipe which seems to catch in the industry with the upcoming games No man's Sky and the Ubi folks The Division does not work the expected way with destiny. You get to meet and play with other players around the small and claustrophobic maps in a series of timed and very repetitive events for the bounties completion, materials or engrams.
-Bounties first 10 times you finish a bounty feels like a blessing, since you need the Vanguard points or whatever points gives the bounty to level-up your vanguard rank or any other rank Bungie might introduce like the Crota's Bane Rep. But after that killing 100 enemies with precision damage feels like routine and grinding, or finishing a specific mission with a hard difficulty level setting, or a raid or any other bounty that comes after level 20.
-Light Gear. The post level 20 hassle. A new attribute is added to the armor gear LIGHT, which helps you level up,kind of artificially, to level 32. It's a pain to play trough the same content again and grind for engrams or strange coins to buy this gear.
-Match-making is destroying every hope you have as a low-level Guardian to have fun, i remember when i was around level 7 being pinned against a team of level 31-32 players with good gear and awesome weapons and having to be in a team where the highest level was less than the other teams lowest more than one time.
-Maximum amount of Marks. The maximum amount seems to be attainable in less than 2 days and is 100 a week and 200 in your inventory. Most gear costs around 150-175 so that takes 2 weeks to get some fancy boots or a nice weapon.

    The Ugly
-Scarce content. The game has around 14 missions and 4 raids(without DLC). The story seems so interesting but with every mission you play you are driven away from the story. I didn't even feel the game ending it was just like any other mission with recycled npc models for the bosses. Also Bungie locked out ares inside the game to later sell them as DLC.
-GIRNDFEST. Destiny players weekly goal is getting strange coins and/or marks to buy that nice piece of equipments he/she was eying and/or dreaming of getting from Xur(shady character that always respawns in a different place around the tower). The means to obtain such rare elements are nightfall strikes which were locked for the people without DLC, daily Heroic Strikes and/or doing bounties that are also limited to a daily amount and maximum you can pursue until you finish them.

Destiny sets out to do something fairly novel for the mainstream console crowd: merge the MMO and FPS genres. That means an assortment of things; open maps interlaced with "dungeons," looting, PVE, squad based combat, etc. And to a degree, Destiny makes it a point to touch upon each pillar of the FPS and MMO genres - pending their compatibility. However, the execution is very...sloppy.

While traversing each map, it becomes very easy to see what was designated a "sandbox" and which areas were meant to be more linear or predictable for the designers. Many of these areas also appear to serve as opportunities for the console to load the next stage of the map, which is understandable, but there are a few too many that are simply slapped onto the edge of the map - stitched together for the sake of fine tuning. This disjointedness coupled with the excessive use of invisible walls makes the overworld feel artificial. All this to simply say: I either felt the game dropped me into a whole lot of nothing or a set path that I could not stray from. This is why I really didn't feel that compelled to explore. The level design fails to incentivize exploration and as a result reduces the utility of its more open areas, which are too often barren (at the mercy of PVE).

The missions suffer from one simple, obvious problem: they are all almost identical. The tedium of each mission goes beyond just the mission structure itself, but the constant repetition of a retooled horde mode doesn't fail to take center stage. Almost every mission in the game revolves around baiting you into an enclosed area where you are then required to defend Peter Dinklage from multiple waves of enemies. I know that Bungie has experience with creating horde mode-esque sequences, but it would have been awesome to see them push themselves beyond the rudimentary. The repetition made the game predictable and as a result, I became disinterested. But like I said, it wasn't just the mission structure that caused this...

From PVE to "dungeons," the combat in this game registers as white noise to me. You aren't required to tackle any enemy in a unique manner, it's either; shoot the enemy, shoot the enemy more or shoot the enemy a lot more. This doesn't come as too much of a surprise as MMO's are notorious for having enemies with obscene amounts of health, but it puts a serious damper on difficulty scaling while playing single player. I found myself either breezing through the game or grinding to a halt as I just waited for an enemy to die. It isn't interesting combat - not AT ALL. It's cheap, poorly thought out and lazy design. This isn't as much of a problem when you're playing with your friends, but even then; having multiple players in a battle doesn't change the dynamic of the fight at all, just how much damage you're dishing out. As with any game, it is FAR more entertaining to play alongside friends, but Destiny fails to capitalize on multiplayer battles in any meaningful way and leaves the job of 'entertaining' to you and your fireteam.

There're many other issues such as randomized loot drops (most likely implemented to keep less experienced players rewarded in some capacity - in sacrifice of the most basic methods of motivation), poor weapon incentivization (due to a lack of variety in both the weapons themselves and enemy susceptibility) and the complete lack of any narrative or substantial amount of lore (your guess is as good as mine).

Wether by the senseless repetition of its mission structure, its sloppy level design or its uncompelling combat/loot; Destiny won't fail to disappoint you. Make no mistake, it is - at its core - broken.

What really hurt Destiny was Activision's greed. In order to make more money, Bungie was forced to gut the game and remove a significant amount of content to be sold as future DLC. What's left logically feels incomplete. The story barely makes sense, and many plot points are never resolved. Every single character is shallow and underdeveloped. What's their story? What is their goal? The game never tells you.But it's okay, pay $50 more and you may get a continuation of the story in the latest 'Taken King' DLC. I'm sure you'll love it, especially if you're like me and you already spent over $100 on the base game (I pre-ordered the Guardian Edition, which came with the first two DLCs for "free").

There's plenty of missions, but they're all very repetitive and boring. Collect a certain number of items, kill some enemies, protect your little A.I. companion... and that's about it, really. If you ever hope to get any better gear, you'll be repeating these missions over and over and over again until you're absolutely sick of them. The endless grind doesn't feel rewarding or even remotely fun - and this is coming from a person who's spent the past 10 years playing World of Warcraft.

As far as multiplayer goes, you can do the boring missions in a group of three players. But really, why would you even bother? There are also drop-in/drop-out public events. You're in the middle of one of your boring missions when suddenly a massive tank appears from the sky, and you and any other player nearby need to work together to destroy it.

Then there are 3-player strikes (it's like WoW's dungeons), and these are actually quite fun. There's a handy player finder tool, so if none of your friends play Destiny, the game will hook you up with two more players. Some of them are pretty bad, though, and more than once did I have a player tagging along doing nothing or simply sitting in a corner, while the remaining two of us did all the hard work. You can report these slackers, but there seems to be no penalty for this behavior whatsoever.

Destiny also has raids, which are basically strikes with larger fireteams and tougher enemies. Unfortunately, there is no player finder for these. You are forced to go to various websites and find your raid team there. It's inconvenient, and the number one reason why I've never done any raids. They're supposed to be fun, but I'll never know unless Bungie adds a player finder.

PvP was Destiny's biggest selling point, and it seems to be the focus of its developers, seeing how pretty much every single event they've introduced since launch was all about PvP (the only exception was The Queen's Wrath). If you're like me and prefer PvE over PvP, you'll find this rather disappointing. If you love PvP, add 2 more points to my rating. Bungie is constantly tweaking weapons and trying to make PvP more balanced, so that's good, I suppose.

And that's Destiny - the game that promised to be the next Halo, but bigger and better in every way. It could've been good if Bungie was allowed to do their work without Activision's interference. As it is now, it just feels like a desperate money grab. Despite all this, Destiny seems to boast an active fan base (if the official Destiny Facebook page is anything to go by), so the game obviously isn't all that bad. Just really, really flawed.

If you're interested and you'd like to give it a shot, I recommend you wait for a few months until the game gets cheaper, or ideally wait for some sort of an "ultimate" edition, which will inevitably come out and which will contain all the DLCs for a few bucks.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
