This is not the Destiny I bought a year ago. This is so much better. Collections make it easier to manage shaders, emblems, exotic weapons and armor. The reputation system is als improved and Crucible (PVP) action has become even better with new maps and modes. New and well designed weapons and armor everywhere along with a new system to calculate light level, better reflecting individual progress. This new iteration of Destiny is a massive improvement in quality in all aspects, finally making Destiny the top notch title it always should have been. A strong recommendation from my side for this game if you're looking for best-in-class combat/gunplay along with an amazing sci-fi dystopian universe/story. Expand

I was bored from Destiny: after 400 hours I tough I would never play year 2 ( you can't call this a dlc )

I brought this expansion just because my wife wanted it... And now I find myself to ride again ! New objectives, new weapons, new subclasses, new gear and new levelling system. This is something I'm not used to: is a reset; is also quite fair if I think about annual series

This is something I'm not used to: is a reset; is also quite fair if I think about annual series that came up with a "new game" not so new.

PVP at last is getting more complex maps, few new modes, new squad-based bounties, new objectives.

By now I played almost only PVP and i enjoyed a lot the new maps, now more tactical.

If you have Destiny and you are waiting for November big ones (Fallout 4, BO3 or Battlefront ) this is a must buy.

These aren't all just "collect 25 such and such", many of these are new missions on new and old levels. One particularly fun mission sent me into the Vault of Glass raid environment (which I had never played before)
I will definitely be playing this expansion off and on for the next few weeks.
It has also sealed the deal for me, I WILL be buying all future expansions for Destiny. At $40 I believe this is an amazing value. I haven't even touched the new PVP maps or the raid yet! Keep up the good work Bungie and don't let the haters keep you down.
P.S. Please add more vehicles and eventually space flight.

I'm Giving it a 10 just for the salty early adopters of Destiny. Yes It's repetitive and a total rip off but hey that's the industry today especially for FPS. Activision, Ubisoft, and EA has been shoving season passes to us gamers and what do we do? We **** take the bait. So here's a lesson, don't get your hopes up that any upcoming game will be the whole experience you wanted it to be.

Of course some drawbacks still exist, but Bungie's desire to improve the games looks quite optimistic.

I like the taken king. It's pretty good and breathes a lot of new life into the game. A month later I'm kinda running out of things to do, but not many games can do that for me so I don't want to knock it. The only problem I have is the same before where I think everything is priced 10 dollars more than it should be.

Destiny's done a lot of things right, but it's also done a hell of a lot of things wrong, and I was honestly kinda ready for TTK to be the DLC that sucked enough to tear me away from the series once and for all.

And so here I am, pleasantly surprised.

-The main campaign is only a few hours long, but leagues beyond the original game in terms of quality and variety. New cutscenes and loads of dialogue give existing mannequin quest-givers personality and charm (Fillion's Cayde-6 steals the show).
-Strike bosses actually have interesting mechanics and abilities that change the way you play instead of just being giant enemies with tons of health and tiered minion spawns.
-King's fall is easily twice the length of any previous Raid activity, while combining the exploration and intrigue of the Vault of Glass with the fast-paced action of Crota's End.
-The new subclasses are great fun and drastically change your team's playstyle and strategy with their new abilities.
-The new leveling system isn't perfect, but its constant progression is a huge improvement over the base game's tiered light system.
-And for the mmo-esque players who love quests and grind with a payoff, there are tons of additional side quests and rewards to unlock. There are a good number of fun little secrets, many of which still have yet to be discovered weeks into the DLC's life cycle.

Sadly, it's worth mentioning a few things that likely have caused the high number of negative reviews here.

First is excusable. Bungie backtracked on a major tenant of their design by making a huge portion of old gear obsolete. Many people will be sad saying goodbye to some of their old favorites (especially a number of game-breaking but fun toys), but by mostly rebuilding the new sandbox and balance from scratch, Bungie has really made a much more fun RPG system with a much wider arsenal of viable gear. Vanilla's PvE and PvP meta's were gamed and optimal loadouts named well before the game even launched through the Beta, while almost every new toy we get seems to have a niche it effectively fills and a strategy it works for. It's a tough bandaid for many to peel off, but once you do, the game is far better for its new, rebalanced gear sandbox.

The second is inexcusable. Destiny has a history of allowing non-DLC owners to progress just short of the max level (normally attained with Raid gear, only available from the DLC Raid), but this time, they capped the level for players at 34, well below the level necessary to do the rotating end-game content. Most of the new random drops they get will be rated a higher xp level than the game will let them progress to. The previous DLC-locking practice was already a tiny bit shady yet excusable (to let the DLC content into the rotations), but this is just kinda **** for non-DLC owners; there's a reason the demo of the game actually unlocks the full game, and that's because it might as well be a demo at this point. If someone was leery of purchasing the DLC and hadn't quite made up their mind, this is all the excuse they need to not support Activision's practices.

But still, in terms of the DLC itself, it's everything the base game should have been. If you're still willing to give Destiny a chance after the **** it's pulled, then there's plenty of both quality and quantity put into this package. After a few weeks of playing, I'd be willing to say this offers as much value as the base game itself, and it's remarkable just how much Bungie has learned from just a year of development.

There is a ton of new content in this game. After completing the main story line, there are at least 6 new quests that open, continuing on side story's that were hinted at in the first year and providing a lot more playability. The story telling is vastly improved, both in the new cutscenes (of which there are a lot) and in the voice acting. Nathan Fillion and Nolan North provide great dialogue, which is funny on many occasions.

The Dreadnaught is also huge. There are the main areas to be explored, but the ship contains numerous little tunnels and areas to explore, each having some type of chest or secret mechanic to discover which opens up new rewards. Court of Oryx provides interesting new play mechanics, there are 4 new strikes to play through, two on the dreadnaught, one on earth and one on Venus. Vog and Crota areas now have story missions attached to them, so you can explore those areas if you didn't have a chance to raid in year 1. Other reviewers mistakenly say that much of the story recycles old maps, but that's simply not the case, especially for those who had trouble finding raiding groups. Mayhem and Rift are great additions to the Crucible playlist and there are a number of new maps to play on as well. Mayhem might be the best addition that comes with Taken King.

The removal of light level to reach the experience cap at lvl 40 is a great improvement. Reaching level 40 will unlock the content, but light level is still needed to beat those bosses. This structure makes a lot more sense since it doesn't lock out content now for landing change weapons. Playing through harder levels becomes easier with better weapons, but it's still possible to play that content without the best gear. It's a much fairer system. Not perfect yet, but a lot closer.

This is easily a game that could have sold for $60 that only costs $40. It's clear from others reviewing that they either didn't play TTK at all or didn't finish the main story mission. This is what Destiny should have been when it was released a year ago. I'm excited to see what it becomes moving forward. It is certainly a much more rewarding experience than it was before.

Destiny has become the victim of a video game hate culture. Which is extremely unfortunate, because The Taken King expansion is actually a really great experience. Everything from the small changes, to the large game mechanic revamps help to completely revitalize the base game.

When I say that Destiny is the VICTIM of hate culture, I mean that you will most likely see considerably more bad user reviews, than you will favorable ones, it is the game that is fun to hate on. Most of the bad reviews don't actually present any real or justified reasons for the low scores, they are just blind hate.

But if you are still reading this, then you deserve to know why The Taken King is deserving of a high score.

    - Level design: Most of the areas in the story missions are brand new areas, and those areas feature some cool level design that is markedly different to the story missions before it. There are some fun new platforming mechanics which make things fun. The atmosphere in some of the levels is really intense.

    - Further on the story mission design: A lot has been said about Destiny reusing old areas for missions, but one thing MUST be noted about this. The Patrol areas (the main areas of each planetary location) are the Hub areas of those worlds. Each hub area connects to various sections of that world. Almost all the story missions in the game DO in fact feature entirely new map areas, despite what people say, however many of them may start with you spawning in a familiar location, for example, the Cosmodrome has a handful of spawning locations, and you spawn there for every mission no matter where that mission takes you. In TTK this isn't as much of an issue as you are spawned as close to your objective as is feasible in the game (ie it's not logical for your character to spawn inside a building, as you can't land your ship inside a building).

    - Cinematics: The new cinematics that are added to the game are awesome! The between mission cut scenes significantly flesh out the NPC characters in ways that were absolutely needed. It added an atmosphere to the game which is awesome.

    - Villain: For the first time in Destiny, they made the villain a character in the game. Rather than another enemy to kill. I actually FELT the anxiousness and danger that Oryx presents, and every time he shows up, you feel his hate.

    - Weapon Foundries: The addition of in-game weapon manufacturers has meant there are weapon designs which are much more unique in design and operate in fascinating ways. No longer are we seeing random weapon designs that all function the same.

    - Your story: In TTK, the world of Destiny recognizes your character. They acknowledge what you have done over the course of Year 1. Countless times throughout the game, your achievements are noted by the various NPC's. When Oryx arrives in the solar system, YOU are the Guardian they send out to meet him. Only you, the legend, can overcome such a power opponent.

    - Characters: As mentioned above, the NPC's in Destiny haven't really been fleshed out much previously, TTK tries to resolve that, by making those characters the focus of the story. It pays off brilliantly. Cayde-6 is hilarious, his banter with Eris is perfect, Commander Zavala and Ikora Ray are both interesting characters, and Oryx is a very imposing enemy.

    - The bad: There isn't much bad to say about an expansion which improves on almost every aspect of the base game. The overall Story arc with Oryx is too short for his character. He is by far the best villain in Destiny, and really does have that typical TV show villain feel to him, the kind that you build up to fighting over the entire season of the show, with the Raid being the final episode of the season, but it feels like a 13 episode season, rather than a full 23 episode. That's not to say those 13 episodes aren't awesome, because they are! but it's sad to see such an amazing enemy be dealt with so quickly.

Summary: The Taken King knocks it out of the park. It improves almost every aspect of the Destiny game, while keeping those fundamental game pay mechanics that made it so much fun to begin with. As a game, it isn't perfect, though TTK has shown that the true potential of Destiny is not as far off as we thought. I thoroughly look forward to where Bungie take the game over the course of Year 2, and into the following years.

Another bad thing, is knowing that we won't see such an influx of content until Destiny 2, as the following DLC 3 and 4 will likely be considerably smaller in size.

I hated Destiny when it first came out, the only draw was its similarities to Halo. The Taken King has elevated the game to something I can actually play full time, like a lot of MMORPGs from a decade ago. The new subclasses are also a great addition, especially the warlock's. This expack has more content then the two last one put together, so if TDB & HoW was worth it to you than the Taken King will be worth it. This expansion has in my honest opinion boosted Destiny to a whole new level. The story kept me on the edge of my seat wanting more, the ghost plays a more active role, Cayde-6 added a much needed source of comedy, and I couldn't stop playing! That last part is a big one for me. I've started playing several games over the past year, but none of them pulled me in like TTK has. I work a full time job and I've already put over 20 hours into the game since launch.

Lot's of people have issues with the fact that all your old guns and stuff are useless now. Well, I have been an MMO gamer for years and this is nothing new to me, so, it doesnt bother me in the slightest. I love the fact that we are getting more powerful weapons and have more to work towards again, but that type of play style isn't for everyone.

The Dreadnaught!!! Easily Destiny's most mysterious, action filled, fun zone yet. Full of puzzles and activities that will keep you running around it for hours, and it presents challenges to survive just running through it. The Cabal and the Hive and Taken are gunning it out all over the place, so there are moments when there are just a TON of guys in this area you just ran into and they all decide to attack the guardian and his/her ghost! It's fun!

The MAIN story line only takes around 5 to 6 hours (with some exploration thrown in it took me a little over 5). It could take less if you just rushed through it without stopping to actually enjoy the story. However, having said that.. I LOVED the story line, and ITS NOT OVER FOLKS! As soon as I finished the "main" story line other quests opened up...some of these quests I'm still working on completing. That's much more than 5 hours of content, and the Raid (which is still a part of the story) has not opened up yet. Like I said I've put over 20 hours into the game already and I've yet to run out of new stuff to do. Yea some of it can be quite grindy, but show me a game with MMO tendencies that's not grindy.

SWORDS!!! Finally got my sword last night and I'm very excited they put these into the game! Some people are complaining about the way the guns and stuff look, but I personally loved the design of things so far in this expansion. The guns look and feel great, the taken look great and their fighting mechanics add a whole new level of challenge, the Dreadnaught looks great, the new subclasses are alot of fun! Overall this expansion was well designed.

I understand being disappointed about losing your old weapons and maybe even that the "main" story line didnt take longer, but this expansion does not deserve 0/10 score...not even kinda close. Great expansion! Definitely worth the $40 I paid for it.

Side Note: I've read several of the low rated scores and it sounds like some of these people havent even played the expansion...they just came in here to complain about how big bad Bungie mistreated them and is out to get their wallets...Destiny has made leaps and bounds of improvement with this expansion and Bungie is actually listening to the players and making changes that have been requested.

It is not, it is a gorgeous game, and I will play destiny for years to come! Good job Bungie Expand

Destiny is finally shaping up to be the game Bungie was aiming for all along, while I think that the taken king should have been in the original release I have to hand it to Bungie that they have been trying to change things for the better. I've been with Destiny since day 1 and have seen all the changes. I'm happy and will continue playing with my fire-team through year 2!

Most of the reviews are obviously from dumb Destiny haters who didn't even buy the DLCs to save money for stale games like CoD and FIFA, and the others who bought it anyway, but they still find something to complain just for the sake of complaining, if you say it will ruin the industry, why the *** would you buy it then? your 0/0 reviews won't change sh!t, and if you don't want to shootMost of the reviews are obviously from dumb Destiny haters who didn't even buy the DLCs to save money for stale games like CoD and FIFA, and the others who bought it anyway, but they still find something to complain just for the sake of complaining, if you say it will ruin the industry, why the *** would you buy it then? your 0/0 reviews won't change sh!t, and if you don't want to shoot enemies in every mission, what the hell do you want? grinding for stuff and getting it makes me feel like I really worked hard for it, if you do nothing and reach lvl 100 for an example then it only makes noobs feel like gods, to me, real "hardcore" gamers will prefer to grind instead of getting the gjallarhorn (which was nerved for noobs to get it from the Xur). in the end I think this DLC is 10 times better than the "full" game. I can't believe how many bogus reviews are in here. Try seraching the user reviews, around Oct 8, positives. Then ctrl F find this statement.

From what I’ve been able to play so far, the value you get is unbelievable for the price. Bungie’s got a lot to make up for after Destiny’s first year, but if Bungie continues down this path for future expansion, it’ll have redeemed this game and realized its full potential.

I liked year 1. Not everything, there was definitively too much pointless grinding going on, but they kept improving it and the gun play was just always solid. The Taken King is amazing. So much stuff to do with unique rewards. Less pointless grind (still plenty of grinding, but it'll get you some really cool stuff). And the raid is amazing. I would doubtful they would be able to improve on the Vault Of Glass, but they did. They learned from the mistakes of Crota (with all it's cheeses and solo players and stuff) and made something that requires great team work and overall skills. I've been playing a lot since it came out, and I still feel I scratches the surface with all these quests and game modes. Expand

This is in my opinion one of the best games of all time, and I've been gaming since the Sega Mega Drive.

Most of the people on here giving bad reviews haven't even played the TK expansion yet, as they have admitted in their reviews, so those comments should be removed by Meta Critic!

The Taken King addition corrects majority of errors that Destiny had from the beginning and finally brings a larger portion of the story and lot of new content to explore. [Issue#258]

For the first time, Destiny feels like it’s complete. It’s not perfect, far from it in fact, and I still can’t entirely disagree when they speak of the package itself as bad. But I’ve also been unable to put it down for the past month I’ve played it.
