There was so little extra content. Not worth $80-100.

It is basically the exact same game with a few extra missions. I had completed the main story arc in less than a day of casual playing.

So basically a poke in the eye of anyone who bought the game at launch and already own the previous expansions. Whats even better is people are facing locked out/crippled content if they haven't bought TTK even if they already paid for it with the previous expansions.

Said it before but I'll say it again that Destiny as a whole has been a huge disappointment. There are worse games to be sure, but Destiny is bad because it had so much potential that was wasted due to either poor direction or outside meddling from Activision. They squandered any faith I had in Bungie to put out a worthwhile experience and made it so I won't even consider anything of theirs except as a rental or at a deep discount. I may have missed out on TTK but I'm okay with that, and I shouldn't be.

A corporate-engineered Skinner Box designed to maximize profits. Engagement and play time are artificially padded by tricks to serve as bragging points in quarterly reports. You costumers get what you deserve. You made this game a success, and fed the arrogance of its developers. Enjoy.

Whilst the new cutscene and area is nice, this DLC is exactly the same as the last ones. Ridiculously overpriced, extremely short on content, boring as hell and grind friendly. Getting to the maximum level is as easy as turning in 8 bounties. The "story" as bungie call it, can be finished in about 2 hours.

Wow. This game is utterly disgusting. I bought it because a friend of mine, who is a huge Destiny day one fanboy, told me they fixed everything and made it better. I'm certain.

The Taken King offers very little in the lines of "new". It's more like "repetitive overused recycling" of other maps and areas, with one new area that contains few missions. The story is so boring that I found myself falling asleep after the first hour, got to level 40 in a matter of days, then found myself at the same eternal grind fest to get better armor. There is still no raid matchmaking, horrible game balancing, a pvp that supposedly balances classes and weapons (yeah right, it really doesn't and favors those who put in more time and cash to get over the paywalls). Nothing that was wrong with this game before was fixed.

You can blame Activision for this atrocity, but I blame Bungie through and through. I will never buy another Bungie game in my life after this. Let's stop calling this game a disappointment and start calling it what it really is, an infectious cancer blighted by video game designers' greed and power, focused on abuse of a fanbase that took a decade to cultivate. Let us all pray to whatever higher power that video game companies don't all try to "copycat" using the business model that Bungie did with this game. I fear that would be the end of my video gaming days. Just my ¢.02

If they knew this was going to be a ten year plan like they say then why not actually plan it out and give the players the full plans for those ten years. Why not have made it a FTP model then? Other games with similar models have worked without alienating their fan base. Awful. Just awful. Expand

Not to mention to internal problems Bungie has had over the past three years that deter me from throwing more shekels at them, nor the fact that Activision justifies it's greedy decisions in ill-mannered attempts at reclaiming a fanbase that literally never existed.

Destiny: The Taken King is but the latest chapter in a failed series from a company that has bent over to another corporate giant, after leaving the soft grip of another that loved it unconditionally... what makes it all the worse, though, is the fact that Bungie had consistently gloated about now being bound by Microsoft anymore... so how do they justify what Activision has done to their third and final act?

As for the taken king itself, its short, repetitive, lots of content from the previous expansions are taken away and your hard earned weapons are now useless.

But the biggest disgrace is that for players like myself who bought the weapons pack, you are given green uncommon weapons that are worse than the weapons you already have, I really hope bungie gets in to some sought of legal trouble for this, As it is the most misleading thing I have ever seen in a game, and this is coming from someone who actually liked the game.

I paid for destiny including season pass costing me around 120 bucks so how am I locked out from something I paid for if I don't want to buy the new expansion Taken king? Isn't that illegal I paid for the game to play never was I told that I would have to buy every new expansion or DLC if I wanted to continue to play a game I paid for how are they even allowed to do this? There must be some consumer policy and rights being broken here and I hope activision gets theirs as this is robbery and fraud no doubt about it. They are basically forcing players to have to buy this DLC or expansion in Order to keep playing a game that they already more then paid for enough this is crazy. I should be able to play all of the original content along with other players who don't buy the Taken King expansion that's how it's always been no matter normal game or MMO which destiny isn't by the way as activision has stated many times in interviews that Destiny is not an MMO it just borrows some designs and elements from MMOs but that doesn't make one and either way even if it was even in MMOs this doesn't happen. It's simple you don't buy new expansion then you can only play what you have payed for but with destiny they literally lock u out of content you already paid for in turn ripping the consumer off. Only an idiot would support this kind of tactic and this game if you like getting ripped off then by all means donate to Activision they will gladly take it but if you smarter then most sheep then don't by taken King as it's overpriced to start anyways and while you finally get a lot of what should have already been included in destiny you are basically paying twice and for what's really a 20 dollar expansion at most as while it adds a much needed actual story with cutscenes to game it's only a few hours worth and surely not the amount you should get with a full game which is what they charging you for btw nevermind how much is actually recycled from original game that you are your paying for at a premium price that a full game would cost. Activision is setting a bad precedent for gaming and it's models with these shady business tactics so don't be a fool by supporting them.

That is, until they made the Taken King. For a ridiculous price of £39.99 you can download this 'DLC' from the Playstation store. Yep, £40, even though the RRP is $40 (or £26) and for this you get; two hours of story and leveling to 40, 1 new area, 4 new strikes a handful of PVP maps and PVP game mode and some bizarre new gear mechanics, which really isn't a lot if you think about it.
What's that? You don't want to but it? well, good luck playing anything else then because Bungie/Activision in their infinite wisdom have locked out 90% of the game so that if you don't buy it, you are reduced to playing nothing at all. you literally will be reduced to 10% of the things you've spent 100% of your time doing.
Oh, here's another thing; remember all that gear you spent hours and hours grinding and swearing and crying trying to get? well, that's all useless and obsolete now; expect to replace it all with green stuff.
Essentially what I'm getting at here is; Bungie are making everyone pay £39.99 to unlock everything that they've already payed £85 for and have sprinkled on some DLC to try and cover it up.
I've played the taken king for probably about 10 hours now and I am right back at running around the maps, waiting for things to spawn so I can kill them and then rinse and repeat the process. If you haven't brought it yet; don't. It is in no way shape or form worth £40. It isn't worth £20. Don't support this, don't believe the hype because this is a waste.
Oh, the ghost sucks even more now too.

As I say before raising a paywall to force year one players to buy this new mediocre ''expansion'' who is definitely not worth $40 is very close to what a scamer will do to you , actuallly other AAA developers make an effort in to creating a quality product and after that those games sell a lot just by themselves but here seems that activision convince bungie that the ''smart'' thing to do was to invest in PR disgised as ''reviews'' and ''journalism'' besides social studies on how to sustain the skeleton of a game whit indused adictive behavior so they can selll the meat later as ''expancions'' or dlc's.

Ppl say now that destiny after ttk has improve a lot, the story make sense now and is a right step in the right direction as many well remunerated critics as say. Well the way i see this is that is like this :

If i grab a story like SW for example, and I cut out of Obi Wan, Han Solo and Dart Vader, what we have left will be the story of a clules kid runing errands arround the stars and will make little to no sense at all, but if later I add these chunks and sundenly everyting start making sense I honestly belive you will tell me something like
-hey why you didn't tell me that before?

    Instead of

    - oh my,this is a right step in the right direction yay !

To make this long story short if you are new to destiny this is the right time to jump in but beware of how this scumbags will treat you . They sold me this game a year ago and make me pay twice for it .
If you are year one player then wait a little for a price drop becouse is not worth $40 bucks VoG was way better than this new jumping rabbit raid beside that just new excuses for more mindless grinding but hey at least those factions make sense now

It's not a 40 dollar content, and it's still reuse same areas, maps and with a small add on map and they remove all content from non-dlc users. Don't buy it. It's just false advertisement and a big scam.

This game is simply built on greed. Bungie used us as Beta testers and put lipstick on their pig. It's still a pig however, equating to a terrible value for veteran players. The taken king is extremely short, as many predicted. Bungie used to make games that were fun to play. They now make hype better than any developer in history.

A bad expansion to a bad game. There are few area that Destiny Taken King don't disappoint. Gunplay is great but the rest of the game is a boring grind. The only real new area to the game get boring after a couple hours of play. The raid is fun the first time but becomes a complete grind if you want to get to 320. Bungie should really be ashamed of how poorly the expansion was implemented.

The launch of the 2nd year of Destiny pretty much reset the entire game, even for players who spent the entire last year grinding to get the best gear in the game by devaluing it and ensuring that if you did want to progress in the game, you had to play along and ditch all that old gear for the new gear. If that statement is confusing, here's an example: say you're playing a game like Skyrim and you've progress all the way through the game and gotten the best loot in the game, best armor, best weapons, etc. Then, an update is released that you must use in order to keep playing the game, that resets the value of all the loot in the game so that the weapons you find initially are more powerful than end game weapons you had to work for. And you don't have a choice in the matter. Either you use the update or you can't play. Sound upsetting? Welcome to Destiny and the Taken King. Expand

With the release of The Taken King Activision seeks to be the first company ever to pull a "fast one" on the general public by basically telling its current users to pay of GTFO (quit). If you have destiny and have not upgraded they have taken away most of the core game to the point that it is worse than a DEMO. What you can do is limited to irrelevant content. You cant buy any gear old or new. You cant level up to compete in Iron banner or Trials of Osiris, 2 of the competitive PVP modes. You are denied access to daily story missions and daily pvp games which earn currency to make purchases, and they also no longer sell old gear so if you don't already have some your up the creek. You are denied access to the nightfall strike, which has some of the best gear drops and challenging game play. You are denied access to heroic strike playlist.

Basically you are denied playing a game that you already spent $60-$100 unless you pay them an additional $40 for another lackluster DLC. That is if you live in the US, other countries like Australia, and India get to pay $70-$90 US dollars for the exact same product.

Activision is trying to set a bad precident in gaming. They want you to continually be forced into a more and more expensive upgrade to play a product you already purchased, and they want you to so grateful that you'll "throw money at the screen" (Luke Smith Bungie creative designer)

Bland mid sized environments devoid of interesting diversions or life but thank to the countless trade offs they decided to make you will sometimes be falling asleep while trudging though one of the two mission types they repeat over and over and see another player character running around doing the same boring **** you are.

Those same trade offs in the name of making it more ‘social’ also mean rather then a quick to use menu you have to spend ages loading into and running around a tiny hub area, but as you run from one characters with an exclamation mark to another you’ll see other players doing the same boring ****.

People are excusing how **** Destiny is by calling out how you can play the whole game with other people, most of the content is limited to 3 people teams with the more specialised modes increasing the number. It might seem impressive until someone reminds you of the fact that in 2007 Bungie’s Halo 3 let you play the entire game with 4 players. With great AI, missions, story and far better vehicle and weapon sandboxes… and photo mode, replays and countless other things that Destiny doesn’t.

If the order of release of these were switched it would make much more sense.

By level 15 I gave up, slogging though the game up until that point was no fun what so ever. If I was professional reviewer I would have finished the game and even restarted it as a different ‘class’, what I’m saying is, you would have to pay me to play this game. For free I’ll get as far as level 15 and stop.

I gave up on the SP around level 10, those last 5 were picked up via multiplayer, I ground though this foul mess hoping to hit the right map, the right game type, the right anything to get it anywhere near close to fun.

The closest Destiny comes to any Halo is in this mode, the maps are could fit into Reach as they feel built for too many things at once and none of them stick in the mind.

Finally getting to play Destiny as a whole does answer a question, why was Marty O’Donnell fired.

Turns out when he was first shown the game he told the team how damn terrible the game is and they were unable to handle it.

Access only if I fork out the £45 odd for TTK? Was this communicated to me when I paid £35 for the dark below/wolves DLC? Answer is no!

I know all this has been said before but wanted to throw my hat into the ring & advise people to avoid which is a shame as Destiny can be fun to play but to alienate players like me who maybe don't play as much as others but pay their money & then discover the 'game' I paid for is practically obsolete? Can Bungie/Activision do this legally....I'm not sure but leaves a bad taste. Plenty of other fantastic games out there / coming out soon so invest in them instead.

Players who have just purchased TTK obviously benefit however what happens in 6 months or 12 months time? Something to ponder eh?

Why did I give it a zero, because the taken king wipes out the previous 2 expansions. You pay good money for the game plus 2 expansions and now all the good stuff went away cause you are supposed to spend $60 to buy the Taken King. Having put in 500 hours pre-ttk, I downloaded the overpriced (expansion). You know what you will see? Everything you worked hard to get is useless. Reforging weapons....gone. Weapon perks removed. The list goes on and on. I have never played such a repetitive, unrewarding, OVERRATED mess as this. I wouldn't even call it a game.

Work to get rewards is the theme here - no fun allowed. The content is much smaller than it appears at first, and the vast majority of the so-called quests involve repetition of old content. Bungie seems to have a philosophy based on their players not being "good enough" or deserving of rewards. It's no surprise that many players dropped off and joined more rewarding and fun games. Instead of adding new areas to explore or monsters to try your combat skills on, the additional content has thus far consisted of a pointless Halloween grind, a refer-a-friend scheme, and raid challenge modes that micromanage your gameplay in exchange for character upgrades. As for the player community, it is shrinking and becoming insular. Like a big clique, this game is hardly inviting to most players. Exclusion and elitism has been a strong theme in Harold Ryan's and Luke Smith's designs. Other than having great basic gameplay with easy and smooth aiming, agile jumping, and elegant special abilities, this game offers nothing but a laundry list of chores for players if they want to progress. These chores are so menial that Taken King will have you craving the depth and interaction of a simple fetch & return quest in games like Fallout, ESO, and Final Fantasy. The player vs player is run amok with lag switching and/or terrible lag and net code. Matches take a long time to find and player count seems thinner than Modern Warfare 2. Once again, there is also no group finding tools or matchmaking for most of the important activities in the game. This is because quite simply, Luke Smith and the most hardcore fans of the game believe we aren't good enough to actually succeed at the content and that we would potentially ruin their play experience. That adds an absurd layer of extra work that players must do just to even try content. There's many cool weapons to acquire in the game, and it's great to get weekly orders from the gunsmith (although the ranking method is even more inane than bounties with the repetitive test weapon chores) but players will find very little storage space or opportunity to substantially upgrade the attack values of these weapons. Bungie seems to only be in touch with a dwindling and insular community of twitch streamers and their followers. Basically, this game is anything but fun, and Bungie's attitude and development team needs to go for any hopes of improvement. Expand

Absolutely the biggest money suck of a "game". Cant even call it a "game" cause its so incomplete, over charging players, locking content that has been out since launch behind several paywalls. And the dumbest fan base ever, the sheep they have hooked will defend the game even when the original creators left and disavowed the company. So sad. Never buy another bungledvision product.

Very poor, same old content, same loading screens, full price. Load of tosh. Grind, Grind, Grind lets see how much money we can make. You even have to pay real money to make your character do a different dance. Destiny has a 10 year plan to rinse as much money as they can out of you.

For the first time, Destiny feels like it’s complete. It’s not perfect, far from it in fact, and I still can’t entirely disagree when they speak of the package itself as bad. But I’ve also been unable to put it down for the past month I’ve played it.
