Another expansion worth less than 30$. Rise of Iron not only disappoints, but the story is short, meaningless and lifeless. You might as well wait for Destiny 2. The new guns and gameplay is pretty good if you can get past the over hype of this expansion. Destiny has been a colossal project from the beginning and it's clear it is still in construction.

Another Rehashed content DLC. Don't buy into this gambling simulator, it has no longevity as usual and adds nothing meaningful to the game just like the other DLC. Nothing new here.

    Short dlc for 30$
reskins, total reuse of old locations, only one strike and short story
Lot of technical problems on launch
    Bungie are you serious?

Destiny is a perfect example of a video game where the developers have made every bad decision possible. If you look back at the community's opinion on when Destiny came out there was one thing - THERE WASN'T ANY CONTENT. And that's the problem with Rise of Iron. It doesn't add enough content.

Not to mention all the new weapons that get added every dlc... that are just re skins of the old weapons, and the enemies are just re skins of each other. The story to this game as well through the missions is by far gold.... I still have no idea what it's about or if we're the good guys or not or who any of the characters actually are or what there roles are... I just know I can buy stuff from them in the tower and xur shows up on the weekends. With the amount of money most of the players have put into this title for the extremely short lacluster dlc's hoping each one would be different but aren't surprised when they aren't........ We could of bought a few great games. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This expansion nailed both the balls-to-the-walls gunfights and the spine-chilling nightmare fuel. The final mission in the campaign shows up even some horror games. You go to destroy the replication complexes, and the corpses of the Iron Lords are hanging above you. You activate the self destruct, and SIVA stops the sequence and...my...God... The Iron Lords hanging above you are actually being kept alive by SIVA. The first will call for help and then start trying to kill you, once you kill it then the other 2 do the same. It scared the crap out of me. Expand

This should have been the same price as the year one DLCs ($19.99) as the content of it is roughly the same and continues to pad content through recycling. All told, Rise of Iron adds about the same amount of total content that The Dark Below added to Year 1 Destiny back in December 2014 for $20 less. Even the "new" PvP mode is just a copy/paste of Call of Duty's Kill Confirmed mode.

Rehashing two of the original year one strikes, reintroducing Gjallarhorn and Khovstov as quests, once again focused on the Cosmodrome; Everything about this expansion feels like a fan-service love letter to year one players more than anything else. Don't get me wrong, I've always liked the Cosmodrome but we've been tooling about here killing the same crap now since the open beta back in summer of 2014. There was a genuine chance here at expanding the content with a new enemy and some real story behind the Iron Lords but instead we got a 5-story mission joke of an arc with yet another vague enemy that "converts" an existing enemy type.

Light level increases have become excessively grindy above level 350+ (which Bungie admits in the patch notes is by design [to-wit: heroic/nightfall drops and engram decryptions are only are slightly higher than current light level half the time when above level 350). I haven't yet been in the raid as I'm light level 358 and still stuck in the current grind of: Heroic Strike/Nightfall Strike, get Legendary Marks, infuse gear endlessly, repeat ad nauseum. This light level grind is so tedious that I find myself missing the old year one issue of "forever 29'. At least then I knew I could still raid and do nightfalls and be effective even if I was missing that one piece to push me over to level 30. In Rise of Iron I can literally spend several hours running strikes and spend several dozen legendary marks just to move up one light level point.

One final point: The new "social space", Iron Temple, is functionally useless once you finish the quests because it lacks faction vendors, vanguard and crucible vendors, and even the new Cryptarch won't give you packages for rep level gains. You still have to go to the Tower for ALL of that (plus the shipwright and gunsmith). Added bonus: The voice over work for Lord Saladin reminds me of old 80's cartoon voice overs - not the top tier stuff like Peter Cullen but knock off work like the guys who did voice work for MASK or Go-Bots. (Yes, I'm old.)

The only reason I bother playing now is because most of my friends still do. I'm already burning out on this grind and it's not like I've been sitting here playing 20 hours a day every day since launch like some folks have been doing. The one thing that could have kept me engaged was the Archon's Forge (which is the new version of Taken King's Court of Oryx) but the design of the key system is so punitive (and the rewards so lackluster) that it's difficult to find anyone there or anyone interested in bothering.

Rise of Iron is an extremely big step back for Destiny. The content is just heavily void of importance in any way/shape/form. Much of the new content is so brief that you'll blow through it within an hour, two at the most. Coming from The Taken King, that's a huge disappointment as that expansion did a good job of building out Destiny's story and characters. Coming from The Taken King, that's a huge disappointment as that expansion did a good job of building out Destiny's story and characters. With Rise of Iron, the narrative and new content are vastly inferior to The Taken King. The story missions are completed within your first hour or so (depending on pace of play) and only a few post-story missions that are based on the same regions you've already played in exist at that point. The new enemy is very cool, however it also is void of importance since it exists hardly anywhere. Compare that to the Taken forces which span all of the playable Destiny regions and Strikes.

If you wanted more of what you got last year in The Taken King, Rise of Iron will greatly disappoint. However, if you're someone that just wanted to jump into Destiny and play up to a new cap, you're going to be okay with whatever you get (within reason, I'm sure). I don't like paying $30 for comparable content I paid $20 for in The Dark Below. You get 1 new Raid, 2 new strikes (1 is recycled from original Destiny), 1 new social space, new weapons and armor and a lot of buried character progression stuff in Rise of Iron. You also get a tease of a good story, instead of something more substantial from last year's raved-about The Taken King. I guess we're just going to have to wait for Destiny 2 before Destiny has a chance to reach its true potential as a streamlined MMORPG/FPS.

Story was short but not sweet. Completed main quest line in under two hours. I don't get how they can charge $30 for this with such a lack of content. Unless you REALLY want to see the Raid, do not buy. Rise of Iron is arguably shallower of content, depth and meaning than The Dark Below was. Which, by the way, TDB had more of a story than RoI. Save your money.

I bought the game day one, so the buy in to keep from having content removed from the game is now VERY steep. Really poor tactics, and a disappointing direction for game development in general. I can still go back and play my nintendo/sega/xbox games from way back and never have to worry about content being stripped if I didn't continue to buy up. I'd strongly suggest staying away from this latest expansion, it's an expensive rip-off.

For £25 it's not really worth it. £15 would be the right price. There's 5 new story missions, new social area, 1 new strike, 2 old strikes brought up to level, new patrol area, new raid, PvP maps, exotics, legendaries etc.

A couple of the missions are decent but the others are pretty short, with nothing to advance the forgotten main story of the Traveler. The new strike is very short

The new patrol area is good, big with a lot of exploring to do, and a Court of Oryx style place in it called Archons Forge which is fun with a few people, but almost impossible without them...be prepared to keep going in and out of the area to get matched up with other players if you're on your own. I haven't been grinding at all since it came out on Tuesday but I've more or less managed to do all the quests bar a couple of exotic ones...

Hopefully the raid will be worthwhile.

Meh boring just like usual same re skinned enemies of the fallen. Crucible still doesn't feel as good as halo when (BUNGIE WAS MAKING HALO) and also the campaign is super short and nothing pops. The new artifacts are a nice addition, but it is an afterthought. The side quest are meaningless and non beneficial. BUNGIE has repeatedly buried what soul the story had and ROI has put the tombstone over the grave. If you're thinking the story thus far will be revealed more think again. Not only is it even more fragmented but it has become so vague that there is no mention of The Traveler at all. How about that for a plot twist. If there was an award for worst story line ever manifested in the history of gaming, Destiny is number 1 on that list.

The new raid, Wrath of The Machine was not very thought out either. Luke Smith has really disappointed being the lead over ROI. Not only is it more disappointing then Crota's End but it has one of the worst design mechanics in Destiny. It's Rift with a chopped up Archon Priest in closed quarter combat arena. The boss itself poses zero challenge and the raid itself feels like a really long strike. Even more cumbersome, quality control has really fallen short this time around. Wall breaching through the raid should not have escaped quality control. Quality control department must not exist at BUNGIE HQ. The raid in itself reflects how poorly everything in ROI represents.

The only spec of fun are private matches that should have been installed since vanilla. However, it's a little too late since the overall experience has really depreciated with more old weapons such as the Party Crasher returning. What a way to make the game refreshing when all BUNGIE can do is recycle weapons over and over. However, if you want the new and improved weapon minus the old perks you have to grind it again. Genius move BUNGIE! Perhaps ascending old gear was too convenient or too complex for BUNGIE to achieve. Maybe it was easier just to add it to the loot table with a new light level and call it a day. There's been so much unbalance and lag in PvP that it's now the norm. Nothing has changed and it's expected to be this way. BUNGIE won't budge from their stance on the weapon META so get used the ever revolving door.

This game is the largest bait and switch BUNGIE has ever accomplish. The move to current gen was suppose to improve the overall experience of Destiny but be ready poor graphics overall with an added grain effect. Imagine playing on new gen console with legacy consoles graphics. Of course we are told that it was not intended however why would it exist in the source code? Reskin weapons, reskin enemies and reskin mission is not new content. It's called bait and switch. This should have been a $10 expansion because that's all it's really worth. There is nothing even enjoyable that at this point in the game that it's better left to sit in re-development for another 3 years. By then maybe BUNGIE can finally make a complete game and a coherent story line.

The time lock content is another poor excuse for running out of creative ideas. Even the raid felt like a desperate attempt to be complex. It was really short lived and easily conquered with a low light level. This is the 4th installment and still no story behind the Traveller and let alone you, as the chosen Guardian. Bungie has failed yet again and only time will tell how many more attempts they will get at making this "experiment" ,as they claim, successful. Seriously though, why are we even fighting anymore?

The story in Rise of iron is amazing, besides how insanely short it is. The cut scenes where cinematic, and where filled with deep lore that never imaged Bungie could create. However, it is way to short. With only 5 missions, i felt a little sad. It was so good, and then ended with this feeling of a very, dare i say, a generic ending. So that is why I can give it a 7.5/10
    Content Rating: 8/10
If we are talking about new guns, armor, lore, items, exotics, missions, strikes, raids (have not played *YET*) and new items, it adds alot. I mean sure its not The Taken King big but its $30 not $40. It has enough to keep the average Destiny player happy until December in my opinion. And for the money, i think it is above average. So, its a 8/10
    Conclusion:
Destiny Rise of iron is a great addition to destiny, *HOWEVER*, Bungie had made it clear, they were not aiming it to be the size of The Taken King, and rather more like the house of wolves. In that sense, its huge. The strike is fun, the story while short, made me feel like i was in a star wars movie, and finally had alot of cool new gear, and not to mention old classic items, make the game feel refreshing, but not old. So in conclusion, if you want to get a short, fun, and sweet DLC, than buy Rise of Iron, but for people looking for a gigantic expansion, dont expect it here.

Hope you guys liked my review, if you could tell me if it was helpful or not and i will try my best to fix any errors or update u guys later. Thanks again ;)

Honestly stop trying to make a game that doesn't have an identity. Stop trying to make mmos and bring us back to the glory days like halo.

While the story is rather ho-hum high fantasy nonsense, it does at least peak your interest...But and it's a big but. The voice acting is dry, poorly timed and badly written, with some of the same corny script work that plagued the original act of Destiny Year One.

It's worth buying if your a Destiny fan, if you're Destiny fan, you've already bought it anyways.

The new campaign is great fun if a little short, and has a better story and soundtrack than anything in the DLC before it.

I see a lot of people complaining about how short the story mission is, but there's a wealth of content that follows.

I drop off Destiny for a long while, but Rise of Iron has dragged me back in.

While this is a small expansion, I am very much so enjoying what has been given to us. The story of Iron Banner is deep with lore and nostalgia even though I have only played since The Taken King. No spoilers, but some of the quests are quite fun. The music also merits a mention it is super well done, probably my favorite music out of all the expansions. And we still have the raid that at this point has not gone line. Similar to WOWs cataclysm, destiny's rise of iron contains areas which have been totally destroyed. Areas that in previous expansions had not been updated in anyways. I would also like to mention that every level I have played has been very substantial. Each one has its own unique music, look and feel. Each one really inmerces In the world and lore of destiny thanks to the characters explaining everything to you as you progress the game. Making the game by level down the rest of it, It's not away to do good game. And the fact, you can't gear more then one off exotic and one def exotic, it lame.... Story
The DLC first introduces you to the iron lords, the protectors of the universe before guardians were around, you get to meet Lord Saladin the last remainer of these warriors. After that you are told of a technology discovered by then called SIVA with can basically replicate anything in the universe, but as expected things gone wrong and they locked it in a bunker for the safety of mankind.Decades or even centuries later the fallen get their hands on this technology and you and your ghosts are assigned to a war in order to put and end to SIVA.The story is interesting and really well put together but feels unfinished and really rushed.I mean if the SIVA is this big of a threat how did I managed to defeat it in an hour and a half? This makes the story promissing but poorly executed making you feel frustraded by the end of it.
    Story Score:7.8/10
    Gameplay
The gameplay is the same, there's no change to the shooting mechanics which is expected since this is a DLC, the one thing that really disappoints about it is that the enemies are the same, if not they are reskins of old enemies(Vex,Fallen,Hive and Cabal).Even some bosses are the exact same ones you faced previously.
The DLC presents a new environment,The Paguelands, a snowy region in Old Russia which can was still able to impress me duo to its enormity either in crashed ships or abandoned complexes. It also cotains new gear to be acquired in story missions, strikes, raid or in its PvP mode the Crucible.Talking of which the DLC brings new maps and a new game mode similar to kill confirmed in call of duty called Supremacy.
The story has 5 missions and lasts about an hour and a half, once you're done with it you still got a new raid, 2 new strikes and The Plaguelans to Patrol.
    Gameplay Score:6.5/10

Rise of iron feels like a goodbye to this game that already lasted enough,it's promissing but unlike its predecessor won't last long and unless you are addicted to getting new gear and upgrading your equipment like me, I would recommend waiting for a sale because this surely isn't worth 30$.

Rise of Iron is smaller than The Taken King as was always stated, and explains why it was cheaper. Story wise, it's passable, but lacks the charm of the taken king mostly because it's missing Cayde 6. Story wise, it's passable, but lacks the charm of the taken king mostly because it's missing Cayde 6. But to be fair if they brought back Cayde 6, the cocky humor would have gotten stale. It is not a full sized game, or a complete relaunch, it's just a DLC designed to give a little bit of extra legs to the game while we wait for Destiny 2. And that's what it does. It has a new arena mode, new pvp mode, a new social space, a new raid, new weapons, a new artifact system, new (yes, short) story, and it expands the playable world by about 20% with the addition of the Plaguelands. You know what that all adds up to? A significantly larger than industry average amount of content for a DLC package. There are low res indie games that took 5 people to make for this price with less content. Seriously people. Manage your expectations and find the things to enjoy in life. Expand

Let's start with a friendly reminder that 0-1 review scores are really ridiculous. Protests are not reviews. That being said, Rise of Iron is some quality content for a DLC and if you have been keeping up with Destiny, you'll love. If you a lapsed player or a new player, don't bother. The level grind is too real.

The good: the story missions are well done and have some real set pieces reminiscent of when Bungie used to make Halo. One of the NPCs even mentions how one particularly halo like mission feels familiar. The new Crucible maps look great. The new raid is fantastic and in my opinion on par with the vaunted Vault of Glass.

The bad: the grind is too real. You need to grind, as in play the same activity over and over for hours, just to increase your level slightly. This DLC really shows the deficits of Bungie's leveling system. I don't know how a new player could ever level up enough to run the raid.

The mediocre: most everything is recycled. The is year 3 but Bungie is re-using assets from Year 1. Some of the new content, such as the flaming armor and a collapsed cargo ship, are inspired. Most of the content looks like it could have been user generated. We get it, this is a stop gap until Destiny 2 drops next year. Regarding Crucible maps, Bungie is going full close quarter combat, even though the one hit kill shotgun meta is cancerous to the game.

Final verdict: If you already play Destiny regularly, you already have this DLC. If not, I recommend saving your $30-60 on something you won't find a frustrating grind to nowhere.

Destiny ROI is nothing more than the swan song cash ramp to a failed IP. I was a Year One player and when they revamped and retooled the leveling and made you leave behind all those weapons that were useless in Year Two was a complete injustice. Not giving you the opportunity to port over one weapon per character that you created. It was even worse when they started to recycle Year One weapons and made you level them up again. It is sad they brought back the Gjallarhorn to try to bring back players or get Year Two Players to stay on the premise of the fabled Gjallarhorn. I could give 2 sh*#@ about the that Rocket Launcher. The Vex Mythocast, Nechrochasm, The 4th Horseman, Thorn. Those were guns worth bringing through out the expansions from Year One. I wasted my money and Bungie and Activision will never get another dime from me Expand

So it looks like I´m the only one who enjoyed the expansion. The only problem that I found is the price of it, however, it brings more content than what people believe. There are many hours to give to this game now, but people only seems to focus on the fact that it has "x" campaign quests. There is much more. Awesome historyline and cinematics as always. The short story removes some points, and the enemies are only a little different from normal Fallen, the fun new artifacts, Supermacy, and a stupendous raid give it a positive score.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Destiny rise of iron was a well attempt at releasing a new dlc to the game but it was wrong place wrong time to release a place holder for destiny's sequel that was supposed to release this September.

The story fells like a combination between destiny's second dlc the house of wolves and the taken king the short but sweet cutscenes kept me hyped to become a "iron lord" but instead it shoved down so many kill enemy's missions and quests in my face that it felt like I never moved in the right direction I want to get different types of missions like how about a stealth were your guardian need to once again use the cloaking tech to become invisible and steal information from were the iron lords died and kill the siva splicers offerings to the Archons forge.

+ The new raid Wrath of the machine raid
    Artifacts with different abilities
    Private matches

    - short story
    No backstory to characters

Looking back on Destiny as a whole, it is clear to me that Destiny is a testing ground and massive experiment conducted by Bungie just to make the new sequel tuned and finely made, because Rise of Iron regresses back the roots of Destiny, and much of its problems resurface as a result. The story was short and terrible, with Saladin having a poor form of character and new NPCs that deliver nothing meaningful. The raid is great, but mired by social issues and problems that make completing one a pain in the ass to do. The new area is cool, but it is a rework of the same area we have all already been in. In fact, that is exactly what Rise of Iron is: more of the same, for better or worse. The new armor pieces, challenge book and raid is sweet, but returning to the roots really brings out the stupid and lazy work of Bungie's team that, even in its third year, Destiny just cannot rise up to the hype it set itself to. It has so much potential, so much promise, but the inner workings of Activision and Bungie and the culture that was created from the game's community just make so dam hard to recommend and say it will get better. With Age of Triumph coming, Destiny will end on a positive note, but many (like me) was expecting far more from it. Considering it has been a three year journey, Destiny will always remain a disappointment. Expand

Great Game! Added content to an already amazing start to a 10 year franchise. Story-line is getting better and this has setup Destiny 2 perfectly. With the new Age of Triumph expansion, its an exciting time to be a Destiny player.

cost is not worth it. base game = $60, first two dlc's $40, taken king $40, rise of iron $30 = $170 game (w/ microtransaction revenue too btw). some fun games that are ftp and survive solely on microtransactions. if you plan on purchasing destiny 2, then plan on $180 and $X for whatever other imaginary currency they invent to reduce the amount of mind numbing grinding for gear. you couldcost is not worth it. base game = $60, first two dlc's $40, taken king $40, rise of iron $30 = $170 game (w/ microtransaction revenue too btw). some fun games that are ftp and survive solely on microtransactions. if you plan on purchasing destiny 2, then plan on $180 and $X for whatever other imaginary currency they invent to reduce the amount of mind numbing grinding for gear. you could buy +3 games for that. additionally, those loyal fans who paid the iron price are then further insulted by "bundle prices" designed to entice new players and keep up their "mau" numbers. people say it's like buying a new game's worth of content. they're right the cost compares, but unfortunately not the content. the base game had 6 classes like 20 story missions (albeit with little story or rewards) multiple strikes, and a challenging raid that took the very best players in the world 10hrs and over 1600 deaths to run for the first time. does this dlc even give 50% more content than house of wolves or the dark below as the cost would suggest? in general i'd say it's on par with the house of wolves in terms of content but not cost. Well, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The addition of Archon’s Forge was probably the only highlight of this “expansion”. The content is still better than most of what Vanilla Destiny had to offer (which makes sense - if you compare a filled juice box to an empty one (getting thirsty writing these unredable reviews - to those whom decided to read it: congrats on wasting your time)). It’s a huge step back from what The Taken King did for this game, but if you’re some kinda hardcore Destiny fan, then you probably would not care about this review to begin with. However it was not worth the price of 300DKK it costed during it’s release. Expand

The bad thing about Rise of Iron is there are just reskinned things. This FPS game is enjoyable to me. There is no in-game chat but this is not a bad thing at all. There is a way you can talk to other players who may not be bots. Expand

Rise of Iron was a letdown in comparison to the Taken King with a confusing story, solid characters, great graphics, and overall, a lackluster expansion to a solid game on its own.

Rise of Iron breathes new life into a game that was starting to get old. This expansion pack is filled with enough new contents and modes to keep players engaged again.

How much you care about these stories varies, and ultimately depends on how much you’re willing to invest to get there. Like Destiny as a whole, Rise of Iron has moments of legend, sandwiched between repetitive, forgettable tasks.
