The new content in the expansion pack is ALREADY great, and that's not including the upcoming Trials Of Osiris and raid! The Strike, bug-fixes, gear ascension, Prison of Elders, Reef, etc! It's all AMAZING! Best part is, it fixes EVERYTHING that made people iffy about The Dark Below. This expansion is amazing, and I highly recommend it to everyone!

I haven't stopped playing Destiny. This review is 100% biased, and I am okay with that.

Hundreds of new Armor and Weapons, new game modes, new social area, new events, new missions, JUST NEW!

This isn't the same Destiny you played last September. This is the game it was suppose to be.

Everyday and every night all I can ever think about is destiny. whenrver I close my eyes all I ever see is the traveler, he speaks to me, calling my name and I beckon at his every call. Destiny has ruined my social life, I refer to everyone as a fellow guardian, when I run I always pretend that I'm about to do a shoulder charge. Whenever someone asks me a question I always answer with "IEveryday and every night all I can ever think about is destiny. whenrver I close my eyes all I ever see is the traveler, he speaks to me, calling my name and I beckon at his every call. Whenever I open doors I always scream as if I have just awokened the hive scaring those around me. I lost my job because all I ever did was write destiny fan fiction at work instead of working. Some might say I'm addicted but I can quit anytime I want to. Now that the house of wolves is released I can now hunt those who dare defy the queen and I feel like a have a purpose in life.. TL;DR Destiny bascually ruined my chances of ever having regular human interaction again 10/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I know im going to get a lot of hate for this but im not the type to really give a flying toast about it.

This might not come to you as a surprise to you guys but all you see on this forum all day, everyday, all the god damn time is someone whining, complaining, crying, hating or telling everyone that their leaving destiny forever. So I decided to make this post of appreciation.

I like Destiny, Im 25 years old, married, no children. I paid about 100$ for this game(including both dlcs), and I have over 1000 combined hours of play time and entertainment from it, I would be an ungrateful brat if I said that I didn't get my moneys worth. Destiny allows me to burn free time with enjoyment. I like the thrill you get when you finally obtain the exotic that you've been waiting for. I like to open chests and find undiscovered presents. I love the fact that no matter how bad Bungie Fcks up, I keep coming back for more. I like the fact that this game entertains me enough that I don't have to spend more dough on other games(for the meanwhile). I love the fact that unlike COD, team tactics are actually essential and necessary to beat the competition. I love the fact that you have so many different things to do every week, all you have to do is chose(Poe/ToO/Nightfalls/Crota raid/Vog raid/Crucible/Farming/Bounties/Strikes). i love the fact that (LFG) allows you to meet new people, and play together from all over the world(diversity is awesome), conversating with them, making new gaming friends, have some laughs about Bungies mistakes, and knocking Skolas on his arse. I love the sense of accomplishment that you feel when you first beat a new raid, or the first time you get 9-0 in ToO, The first time you get that Darn GJallarhorn(although some of you havnt gotten it yet, it will come).

I know that some of you will hate
Some of you will be teachers, and correct my spelling mistakes
Some of you will insult or degrade
Some of you will dispute that this game is actually pretty good
Haters gona hate, ainters gona aint...you hate us cuz you ainus
But that has nothing to do with this post.

All im saying, is that we should appreciate destiny for what it is. A fun, sometimes rewarding, addicting, very social, visually stunning and enticing game. If it wasn't, people wouldn't have hundreds of hours invested into it.

    Sincerely,
    A satisfied casual gamer

But since House of Wolves dropped I have found a new love for Destiny again. New story missions while short can present a challenge if played on the highest difficulty. Prison of Elders is a new take on team play that has sparked a new interest in me. I like raiding but I don't always love the social aspect of it. I like the quickness of Prison of Elders and the difference in not having to communicate with other players all the time in order to get through it. I have not had the opportunity to run Trials of Osiris but I have high hopes for what it holds for me. Expand

Now before I get jumped on for being biased, please understand I use to logic to justify this consumer review. This game had enormous potential and still does. However, that should not increase or decrease anyone's score. I believe the game looks beautiful and plays extremely well. I do wonder, if we were just running run through parts of the maps we have already been to, then why did this DLC take this long. I have only taken 2 months off from playing this game, and I will say that I had hoped for more upon returning. Now, as of this review I have almost finished the main story line and have a group ready to play the prison of elders (POE) and will be playing the Trials of Osiris (TOO) when that is released. I really want to see more of this beautifully designed world, in the beginning I used to just run around enjoying the world and the attention to detail, now it's only running through a few small new areas. I think that they have shown that a truly full game could potentially give bigger franchises and games a run for there money. The story of both DLC so far, seem like solid side quests in a much larger story arc. I think the new armor and weapons and not mention, the minor changes in the fallen you encounter shows the detail bungie has taken. I think, the fact that they have added in a couple new modes as well as designed a new and interesting social space shows that they are building a world that could deserves a 10/10. However, the mistake in why this game only gets a 8/10 is the fact that bungie has failed to flush out a bigger story at this current point in time, and fails to expand the universe inc contributing to the over all story arch. Destiny, is still an addiction I cannot shake, and a game I still highly recommend if you can accept the fact that bungie is taking there time revealing the whole story. I draw comparisons to the modern warfare series since I beat and enjoyed all those stories. If you remember the story has always been around 5 hours in length, and in the beginning the story was not all that impressive either. I think that this world has far more depth, and if bigger and better things are to come I am excited. Plus, between how great POE and TOO look, and how even the "haters" give credit to how good they are, should make you excited if theres a chance that a raid will be added on top of that. I give this a 8/10 because despite it's faults it delivers another couple hours of great story (although in a familiar place) and a new mode that seems to hit all the right points. Expand

When I first played Destiny, I thought it was a huge disappointment, and to be honest, pretty crap. Luckily, I found some good gear and up'ed my Light Level and jumped in. Now, I can't wait for more, and am seriously considering getting The Taken King.

House of Wolves adds interesting characters, fun, varied missions, an arena mode, "The Prison of Elders" that is right in my comfort zone when it comes to challenges, new interesting loot, and the Trials of Osiris. While I have not yet played the Trials of Osiris, I have experienced just about everything else this mode has to offer, and it is amazing. Loot is much more interesting, and the new sidearms are my new favorite weapon, offering a good punch and being what has to be the most satisfying gun to shoot in my opinion. The missions are fresh, exciting, and challenging and the new characters are much more interesting than Dinklebot. The Prison of Elders is a great arena mode, with great rewards to boot, making the challenge truly feel worth it; something almost everything else in Destiny could never do.

Does this Expansion redeem everything about Destiny? No. It still is pretty short and you'll mostly be visiting the same areas, but I'd say it's the first part of Destiny I feel is truly worth the price of admission.

I strongly recommend House of Wolves.

And unlike The Dark Below, The House of Wolves adds more to the story of Destiny, the Vestian Outpost is a new hub area and is good for separating those who do and don't have the DLC so you don't try and invite people to the Prison of Elders only find out they don't have it.
But I've said it before and I'll say it again, the strikes, raids and prison of elders needs matchmaking. It's difficult to do the nightfall when you're new to a console and have a short list of friends, most other people don't give you the time of day let alone do raids with you. Another issue I had with The House of Wolves is the lack of an actual raid, even though the prison of elders counts as a raid it doesn't feel like one. For most people the Vault of Glass was the main reason they keep playing and when it was announced that The Dark Below had a raid I didn't know a person who didn't buy it.
Overall it was a fun experience that got me into Destiny again but like most aspects of the game I felt like they needed to add a littler more so I could get some bang for my buck.

She was the most interesting character of the core Destiny experience, and she's mostly MIA here. This expansion is good enough to keep you busy for a while, but a $10 purchase would seem more fair. With a major update en route this fall, it's do-or-die time for Bungie. I wish better weapons would drop more frequently and they'd add some more patrol missions. Anyone above level 25 has done the same patrol mission 1000,000 times by now and it only requires some simple coding to add some more variance to the patrols. It'd also be nice to see some new enemies as seriously we have seen the same looking enemies over and over again by now..

I have played in that way during months with a we can say low notable experience but what is not understandable is that Destiny is a very poor game for a single player, a typical player that can play one hour everyday, that doesn`t play every day, unfortunately Bungie pay no attention at all to this type of gamer and in a console is a common gamer. A good player in CoD, RE, etc in this game can't have access to the best weapons, armor and even in this last DLC to raise to the level of the other players, there aren't mechanism of matchmaking for the good loot and the funny area of the game.

The game mechanism is the best thing in the game, very funny even when you are playing always the same mission. The graphs are ok, not something awesome but ok, they use some tricks like mandatory use of helmets and others in order to facilitate the visual part.

The music is great and change with the game in a good way, the sound of the weapons are also great.

Related the multiplayer I have enjoyed this part, but there is not a feeling of weapon weight and impact due the enemy shields but is enjoyable and balanced enough to lost and win properly to your skills.

In summary if you have time I recommend you other games if you are a father or you have a job, forget about this game.

    Gameplay:
The shooting mechanics remain the game's strongest feature. They are unchanged.
Level design also follows the same formula, recycling levels you've trudged through hundreds of times by now and opening up a few more areas (one area you've been to once before. 3 if you've started two other characters). Overall, new realestate is minimal.
The new upgrade system is a mixed bag. You no longer need upgrade material unless you want to work up an old piece of armor. You just use etheric light to give any legendary item that final bump to 34 lvl. But you still have to jump through hoops to get the light, which is fine, if not for the next item.
Prison of Elders most definitely does not replace raids. All of Destiny follows the following formula: Send player to room, lock player in room and throw enemies at him or her. Perhaps with added mundane objectives thrown in to keep the players from holing up in a door way (a common sense tactic when they leave such little wiggle room) PoE will get repetitive quickly, so if you got tired of grinding raids, you'll get tired of this fast. And getting access to the treasures after also requires grinding after a key. So in the end, you do just as much grinding as you did before (not a bad thing), except it's with weapons and perks that are about the same (but at least you can reforge them), realestate that's about the same, story telling that's about the same. Gameplay formulas that are about the same. Oh, and, of course, we can't forget to mention bugs. Enemy attacks can go sometimes go through cover and titian shields from time to time. Random teleports in PoE.

Yep. This game is pretty much more of the same in all ways, good and bad. PoE is probably the biggest disappointment though. It does not replace raids, and, because you you need etheric light to get max lvl, PoE makes the raid almost completely obsolete unless you're going for specific loot.

I enjoyed this because I enjoy Destiny and this is just more of the same. But from an objective point of view this is a poor effort.

Bungie are still playing it fast and loose with the word 'story' considering the entire narrative of this DLC was summed up in its entirety in the minute long trailer and the story missions themselves don't really offer any more detail or new experiences.

"There is a place. There's a guy there. Go to the place and kill the guy."
    That's about it.

What baffles me is that they have written pages upon pages of lore and backstory and just neglected to include it as content. I don't understand why that seemed like a good idea.

    What else is new?
There's trails of Osiris which is a PvP mode that will likely only interest the most hardcore competitive players.
Then there's Prison of Elders which is fine I suppose though not exactly innovative. It's just horde mode featuring 15 waves of the same enemies you've been fighting since day 1 followed by an equally unoriginal boss at the end.

If you're already happy with Destiny this isn't going to take away from that, you'll certainly enjoy it. But if you have discrepancies with the game already then paying the insultingly high price for this will likely push you over the edge.

Instead of a new raid, House of Wolves features a fun "horde mode" with the Prison of Elders. There's also new strike on the Moon that improves over the "back alley" boss fight of The Dark Below's terrible main strike.

Since this DLC puts aside the raid-centric approach of the initial release and the first DLC, the focus is shifted towards the competitive multiplayer part of the game. There are a few new maps to play (one Playstation exclusive), including a cool map in an European ruins zone never before seen in the game. PvP also includes Trials of Osiris, an ultra-competitive mode available on the weekends. PvP reward drops have been improved to match PvE.

Here's what has improved for this DLC:

    - The leveling system. No longer you re tied to an specific set of gear to level cap. One of the biggest problems of the light leveling system created for the game has been resolved.

    - The voice acting. While the writing wasn't exactly Shakespeare, the delivery of the lines by Peter Dinklage was the butt of jokes. The new NPCs are more cartoony, but deliver their lines with a little less contempt.

    - The story missions. Fighting waves of enemies while your "ghost" opens a door became the butt of jokes. The new missions have none of that. While some will complain they mostly recycle old areas, I think recycling old areas is a clever way to pump more content.

    - Patrol Mode. The new bounties and scavenging hunts is the closest thing this game has ever got to a social experience.

This is what has NOT been improved

    - The story. Expect no resolution, nor any new developments. The story of this DLC is essentially the equivalent of a side mission. It's still unsatisfying and weak.

    - The grind. While the DLC simplified the cacophony of currencies and upgrade materials from The Dark Below, it's only smoke and mirrors. The abysmal drop rate of good gear is still designed to force you to play the same missions for hundreds of hours, in expectation of that great reward. You become the modern version of the old lady that spends all day in a casino pumping nickels at an one-armed bandit.

    This is what's gotten WORSE

    - Matchmaking. While removing matchmaking seems noble (some modes requires teamwork and communication that you can only have with a trusted team), it's ultimately a failure of spectacular proportions. The greatest achievement this policy does is effectively put a barrier to most players for experiencing the game's best content. Rather than find a solution, the developer DOUBLED-DOWN on the problem, not allowing matchmaking in the Trials of Osiris and the difficulty levels of Prison of Elders that offer the best rewards. Since the game offers no alternative, players are forced to find matchmaking in community-built tools. This is unacceptable. Until the game implements matchmaking in all modes it can be considered broken and incomplete.

    - PvP balancing. If you did not stay away from the game despite my advice, stay away from PvP if you have high blood pressure. PvP is plagued with latency issues and one-hit kill weapons. The experience is even more infuriating than the ridiculous random loot system. Every effort Bungie has done for balancing has only made matters worse.

Overall, House of Wolves offers a decent package of things to do, and a vast improvement over the horrible The Dark Below DLC. I still can't recommend the whole game wholeheartedly, and if you are on the fence on buying it, I suggest you don't. The removal of matchmaking from the game's best content makes it a "fans-only" purchase, and non-starter for everyone else.

It's still a bit of fun when you just feel like shooting stuff, the new gear / upgrade mechanics are an improvement, and the new activities are slightly different, but this is still Destiny with all of it's faults. The story is once again wholly forgettable, missions and activities still boil down to horde mode, it is still a grind, and there is still no decent IN GAME way to form a group. It's still a bit of fun when you just feel like shooting stuff, the new gear / upgrade mechanics are an improvement, and the new activities are slightly different, but this is still Destiny with all of it's faults. If you have the season pass it's worth check out if you're bored, but otherwise there are far better games (inc. shooters) to spend your time / money on.

I feel like bungie is confused and thinks, people actually enjoy getting ripped off on content and price.
The "story" is gives me no compassion or connection to my character, let alone anyone else. I just haven't felt this let down by a company in a long time. Just sad.

Simply put, only played this purely because I bought it. It was better than the Dark Below which is not saying much. Bungie's attempt of a story is embarrassing. Prison of Elders is like a hoard mode which has been done before. Lastly, NO RAID! WTF. I will not be buying Comet. Bungie has completely bungled this game from the start. They have basically destroyed their credibility for me.Simply put, only played this purely because I bought it. It was better than the Dark Below which is not saying much. House of Wolves is bad DLC, but does a better job than The Dark Below by allowing the story for Skolas be more fleshed out than even the "story" for the base game. The Prison of Elders is a cool idea, but is very tedious and makes the grave sin of making only certain light levels and weapons the only viable way of beating the endgame goal of Skolas himself. Add to that a PVP mode called Trials of Osiris and the DLC is still subpar and weak for what is given. If there was any hope or fire Bungie tried to kindle for the first year for Destiny, it had thrown most of its player base into the pits and threw scraps for those left to survive. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The price of this DLC should have been lower. I am not going to say what other people think about this game. Why will I do it in this universe? Here is a list of bad things about the house of wolves:

    -A very short story

    -No new type(s) of enemies

Bungie seems to be slowly turning Destiny into the game it always had the potential to be. [Issue#258, p.74]

A solid DLC that manages to inject new fun into the daily grind of Destiny. It’s noteworthy that the new strike mission feels like a lost level of Halo. [June 2015]
