Just as I rated The Dark Below, this "expansion" isn't worth anything higher than a 2. Yes the 0/10 reviewers are trolls but so too are the 10/10 reviewers because they can't stop and look past their bias. If one stops and evaluates what this actually adds (and removes) it is, once again, a prime example of shoddy management.

After finishing the primary Petra Venj arc, I'm left yawning.

If one stops and evaluates what this actually adds (and removes) it is, once again, a prime example of shoddy management.

After finishing the primary Petra Venj arc, I'm left yawning. Everything but the final segment of the final mission were in places we've seen until we vomited. The one "new" place on Cosmodrome (Kings Watch) wasn't new considering people had glitched into it back in the beta AND it looked exactly the same back then as it does now. The "new" place on Venus is really just the platforming elements from VOG up in the air - everything else up to the elevator (you'll know when you play it) was there from release.

The only reason TDB got any kind of positive traction was thanks to the raid included and this one doesn't even include that. So let's break it down:

    - New PVP mode: This is probably the best addition in the expansion and the legitimate gear grind this time around, Prison of Elders notwithstanding. However, unless you run with premade groups you're going to have a bad time. If you try to roll solo, you're going to get stomped.
    - Story missions which consist of running 90% existing story areas backwards (including the very, very intro mission, backwards... how original).
    - Two strikes, one of which is being treated as long term end game.
    - Three new PVP maps.
    - Multiple new factions to grind, yawn.
    - No raid. Please do go back and pay attention to what Bungie has said on the matter; they have not "promised" to release a raid later for free. Having a raid coming "later this year" could just as easily mean as part of the Comet expansion or as another DLC pack that will be OUTSIDE of the scope of the Expansion Pass.

Anyone who says this is better than TDB is full of it or unable to see beyond the "ooo new shiny!" factor. House of Wolves is EVEN MORE content sparse than TDB and uses repetition (factions, horde mode strike) as a band-aid. Dark Below's end game was a new raid with new design, HOW's end game is a strike using recycled cave assets from each of the planets (and moon), over and over and over. At least Dark Below opened up some new spaces that were interesting. All HOW does is use recycled content, recycled grind, recycled enemies, and opens up stuff we knew was walled off on the disk back in SEPTEMBER 2014 (Kings Watch, Terminus).

Oh but "sidearms", new shaders, and new ships! Whoop de do. Oh, sure, they reduced the amount of materials needed and ditched the defense and attack nodes in the upgrade trees, but you have to ascend each of your legendaries, which is the same grind under a different name.

The new hoard mode or survival mode doesn't feel like survival at all since it's only about 5 rounds / 15 waves. This mode should have gone on forever like MW3 survival or BO zombies. It's not like survival mode at all but just an extended strike. I haven't played the new PvP game but don't want to. @Bungie I bought Destiny for PvE not PvP like a lot of other people. Thanks again for **** us by not including a raid.

Rumor has it, all of DLC content was originally apart of the game and only locked so it can be sold to use as pieces later on as DLC. I believe it now for sure! I also believe the only reason why this game wasn't on PC was because PC gamers would have cracked the game files and exposed Bungie. Sorry guys but we got **** on this one. We spent $100.00 on a $60.00 game.

This DLC does not warrant the $19.99 price tag.

The lack of story line, repetitive game play, and pathetic attempt on horde mode leave much to be desired. House of Wolves feels old and does not bring much to the table in the terms of new areas to explore. From recycling old areas to enemies, it does not add unto the Destiny universe other what every other game would call a side quest.

Go kill x amount of enemies, kill x amount of enemies in an area, and kill x amount of enemies in another area but this time in a large amount.

One thing I noticed, the main narrator for this story is a Queen's emissary named Petra, along with an annoying Fallen which name I could careless for. Peter Dinklage's ghost is non existent in this DLC.

Prison of Elders is broken into 4 levels, level 28, 32, 33, and 34. All exactly the same, for one exception, boss battles and little tasks here and there in the same four arenas that you played at lvl 28.

Trails of Osiris in a nutshell 3 v 3 hand cannon and shotgun fest of hide and go seek.

On the positive side there are a great amount of new armor, weapons, 2 new spaceships that don't look recycled, and 2 new sparrows that looked very recycled, that have been added to the game.

Once again, Activision and Bungie offering lack luster content. Expect Destiny 2 or what ever they call it to be announced at E3. This cow ain't going no where, still good for milking.

I feel like a drug addict. And that scares me. But this is what Bungie wants. By their own admission they built a game based on behavioural studies to get those with addictive personalities "hooked" - much like a gambler or drug addict. I don't consider myself either, until I realised I had invested over 400 hours into this mind-numbing, life-destroying crap (and most of the guys I play with have over 1000 hours).

I like the core game mechanics and what Bungie had "promised" for the future, but both DLC's were horrendously overpriced and nothing more than patches of content that has been sitting there since the very launch.

I recently finished Bloodborne and feel no regret whatsoever. It was very, very rewarding and finishing the entire thing on my own - and getting the platinum - felt like a genuine achievement.

But Destiny is the game that never ends and keeps shafting you. This NEEDED a raid. It needed NEW content instead of reversing 90% of maps we'd already done.

There's far better games out there to spend you time and money on. Bungie have taken enough...

When Destiny came out many felt they were just playing half a game. With House of Wolves, we can finally play the other half. After all these months, and a $90 price tag, Destiny feels like a complete game. That's one of the fundamental mistakes of creating a game around selling DLC.

When Destiny came out many felt they were just playing half a game. With House of Wolves, we can finally play the other half. After all these months, and a $90 price tag, Destiny feels like a complete game. That's one of the fundamental mistakes of creating a game around selling DLC.

Instead of a new raid, House of Wolves features a fun "horde mode" with the Prison of Elders. There's also new strike on the Moon that improves over the "back alley" boss fight of The Dark Below's terrible main strike.

Since this DLC puts aside the raid-centric approach of the initial release and the first DLC, the focus is shifted towards the competitive multiplayer part of the game. There are a few new maps to play (one Playstation exclusive), including a cool map in an European ruins zone never before seen in the game. PvP also includes Trials of Osiris, an ultra-competitive mode available on the weekends. PvP reward drops have been improved to match PvE.

Here's what has improved for this DLC:

    - The leveling system. No longer you re tied to an specific set of gear to level cap. One of the biggest problems of the light leveling system created for the game has been resolved.

    - The voice acting. While the writing wasn't exactly Shakespeare, the delivery of the lines by Peter Dinklage was the butt of jokes. The new NPCs are more cartoony, but deliver their lines with a little less contempt.

    - The story missions. Fighting waves of enemies while your "ghost" opens a door became the butt of jokes. The new missions have none of that. While some will complain they mostly recycle old areas, I think recycling old areas is a clever way to pump more content.

    - Patrol Mode. The new bounties and scavenging hunts is the closest thing this game has ever got to a social experience.

This is what has NOT been improved

    - The story. Expect no resolution, nor any new developments. The story of this DLC is essentially the equivalent of a side mission. It's still unsatisfying and weak.

    - The grind. While the DLC simplified the cacophony of currencies and upgrade materials from The Dark Below, it's only smoke and mirrors. The abysmal drop rate of good gear is still designed to force you to play the same missions for hundreds of hours, in expectation of that great reward. You become the modern version of the old lady that spends all day in a casino pumping nickels at an one-armed bandit.

    This is what's gotten WORSE

    - Matchmaking. While removing matchmaking seems noble (some modes requires teamwork and communication that you can only have with a trusted team), it's ultimately a failure of spectacular proportions. The greatest achievement this policy does is effectively put a barrier to most players for experiencing the game's best content. Rather than find a solution, the developer DOUBLED-DOWN on the problem, not allowing matchmaking in the Trials of Osiris and the difficulty levels of Prison of Elders that offer the best rewards. Since the game offers no alternative, players are forced to find matchmaking in community-built tools. This is unacceptable. Until the game implements matchmaking in all modes it can be considered broken and incomplete.

    - PvP balancing. If you did not stay away from the game despite my advice, stay away from PvP if you have high blood pressure. PvP is plagued with latency issues and one-hit kill weapons. The experience is even more infuriating than the ridiculous random loot system. Every effort Bungie has done for balancing has only made matters worse.

Overall, House of Wolves offers a decent package of things to do, and a vast improvement over the horrible The Dark Below DLC. I still can't recommend the whole game wholeheartedly, and if you are on the fence on buying it, I suggest you don't. The removal of matchmaking from the game's best content makes it a "fans-only" purchase, and non-starter for everyone else.

Now in order to get to the arena you only have a 1 in 50 chance every 10 minutes to get a key so you can be rewarded in the arena! not only does this increase the amount of farming but it also spams your inventory full of useless special ammo synths! making it nearly impossible to get anything else! and once again glimmer is totally useless! remember the old days when you had to buy SHIPS and delete them because your glimmer was always at max? well thats back AGAIN!!!! not only that but my inventory has been spammed with useless weapons because bungie thought that machine guns were just too powerful and now 50% of all of the heavy weapons are trash.

    Trials of osiris:
This is a new PVP gamemode and probably the only reason to consider buying destiny (at a cheaper price mind you but still consider it) but its basically iron banner but constantly ongoing instead of every other week. you get a token of osiris or something, that allows you to play a total of 11 games but if you lose 3 times, you leave the trials and are rewarded based on your total wins. this is also based on gear score and gun damage so make sure to gear up to level 34 to get that level 34 armor...... wait.

    The Arena:
This mode is the new "raid" which is the raid boiled down to its most basic, wave based survival game. hoo-rah now you get instant death mines and bosses spawning so many little guys that it makes the game mode infuriating, where as the raid took coordination from the team the raid just requires gear and patience.

Destiny is right now the game to pass up you are missing nothing if you decide to pick this game up when it finally reaches its true to content price of $20

unless you have already bought the season pass do not buy dlc from bungie until they decide to shape up and make real content, its getting ridiculous. DO NOT BUY

Destiny is REALLY lacking storytelling and on top social features.. i have no clue why destines "community manager" DeeJ stil claims taht Destiny is a "living social environment" while its clearly not.. since there is no possibility to interact apart from 4 worn out emotes with no meaning.
The best addition to the game is probably the Trials of Osiris PvP content (and thats fro m a non PvP player like me) since there the loot is, for the first time in destiny, working.. if you get to the lighthouse, you can clam your reward with a guaranteed elemental damage primary weapon.. thats one thing thats utterly lacking in Prison of Elders. even if you beat skolas, its still RNG IF you get an elemental primary , not which, that has to be changed since there is absolutely no incision to play this anymore apart from the grimoire card, since the rewards are quite lackluster with horrible useless perks,,

also destiny once again failed to deliver a mean to contact sort, and manage your friends or group, or search for them.. it was still possible to enter every activity in destiny even if you played solo, but with ToO you are doomed to use a third party website or you simply cant start the activity since there is not a simple mean to contact, create or apply for a group in the game.. so much for "play it your way" again bungie forces the player to play it "their" way, which is basically the notorious snowball system to aquire new "friends" for activision and paying customer..

overall, nice addition, should have been free and included in the vanilla game, poe is way to little tempting and the rewards are awefull, ToO needs matchmaking in some form, and the game still lacks any social features, and last but not least there is still absolutely no explanation to the story f destiny and why we are here, where are we from and who are our enemies.. and sadly the taken king looks exactly the same.. seems as if activition wants another "Titanfall" while trying to hold the players..

Bungie are still playing it fast and loose with the word 'story' considering the entire narrative of this DLC was summed up in its entirety in the minute long trailer and the story missions themselves don't really offer any more detail or new experiences.

"There is a place. There's a guy there. Go to the place and kill the guy."
    That's about it.

What baffles me is that they have written pages upon pages of lore and backstory and just neglected to include it as content. I don't understand why that seemed like a good idea.

    What else is new?
There's trails of Osiris which is a PvP mode that will likely only interest the most hardcore competitive players.
Then there's Prison of Elders which is fine I suppose though not exactly innovative. It's just horde mode featuring 15 waves of the same enemies you've been fighting since day 1 followed by an equally unoriginal boss at the end.

If you're already happy with Destiny this isn't going to take away from that, you'll certainly enjoy it. But if you have discrepancies with the game already then paying the insultingly high price for this will likely push you over the edge.

Progression is once again only rewarded to those who managed to have dedicated groups, and doing more casual activities will get you nowhere in the game. The Bungie community spokesman said that implementing matchmaking was not part of their design philosophy, so that means casual players will expect lots of challenges trying to find teammates.

If and when you are able to get a team, you will find that it is more re-skinned models of the same enemies, and all of the new challenges are also cheaply implemented mini-games or status effects within boss fights saturated with additional minions. The attempts at providing much needed story and character development are pretty pathetic, and the dialogue is as bad as most B action movies. Sure, guardians will have new challenges in this DLC to overcome, but they will feel like chores.

The Vanguard Strike Playlist only gained one new strike, and this was an important mainstay activity that gave players something fun to do when they couldn't get raid groups together or wanted something less intense than PVP. After seven months of the same strike content, one new strike is just not enough to overcome the staleness even though the new strike does implement some fresh mechanics.

The new PVP Crucible maps are fun, but players without a dedicated team will find themselves unable to play the new Trials of Osiris at their convenience, and the high-stakes competition of the mode has seemed to encourage a spike in cheating.

The once elegant PVE action sequences where players could use their individual play style to its fullest are all but gone, and that leaves very little for many Destiny players as Bungie has failed horribly to deliver an immersive story or much needed social features to make this aggressively group-oriented game more palatable for the average gamer.

SAME map flipped around. Now run this way and do the same repetative missions... No thank you. If i could get my money back I would. The game that was promised to us was not given. When the reset happens every tuesday, I no longer have fun playing the game. I can't beleive that they took the same maps we have been doing... and just turn them around and tell us to run the other way for these DLC. I turned the game off and never looked back after this new "DLC", house of wolves that came out. (already preloaded on the disc mind you). This needs to stop. Bungie/Activision, hurt their players/fanbase with this garbage. I will no longer pay for comet, saturn, pluto, Neptune or whatever else planet they want to sell us. They raise the lvl cap to feed the addiction, point blank period. Their is no story, there is no point, there is only disappointment. DLC after DLC... DLC that is already on the disc. somewhere MONEY got envolved with what was sopposed to be beautiful a game. As a gamer, I regret the time I spent leveling up. I will admit, The VOG was simply beautiful. I enjoyed the time I spent with my friends playing it... That was all that was fun. I might sound bitter, but i will never spend another dime on money hungry companys ever again. This has to stop. if we feed this than we will continue to get this. We, as the consumers have to put a stop to this. DO WE NOT UNDERSTAND THIS!.... Listen, WE BOUGHT A GAME WITH MORE CONTENT ON THE DISC, BUT WE HAVE TO PAY TO OPEN THE CONTENT ON THE DISC THAT WE HAVE ALREADY BOUGHT. Their is somthing wrong with this picture. I have never seen this before. Than they bundle the 2 DLC (ALREADY ON THE DISC MIND YOU) for 35$, or 20$ individually... We payed 60$ plus 35$ (95$, 100$ including taxes). for one disc. that already had everything on it. We basically payed 100$ for one game. Regardless of wether u like the game or not. This is rediculous. I will no longer be dooped into this BS again. SOMEWHERE MONEY GOT INVOLVED, and the fufillment of pleasing the fanbase was lost. Im slowly seeing my friends drift away from the game. Their are so many bugs in the game as it is, With continuos apology's everytime they update. CHEESING has became a way of playing. Just to let whoever is still reading this know, Alot of my friends (90 plus on PSN), are regreting the time they spent grinding for nothing. WE NEED TO END THIS. AS gamers we can. I say we take a stand for this, ultimately 100$ game. Keep in mind 100$ on one disc..... Rediculous. 9/10 THUMBS DOWN throughout my destiny timeframe. Sorry for being so harsh, but this needs to be said. Otherwise other companys will look at how much money was generated from DICKING the players and continue to do this to us.
SIMPLY PUT, DESTINY = MANNY vs FLOYD...

and I will not pay to watch that BS again either.

sincerely: Pissed off gamer/time wasted/done with Bungie.

Every positive feature in this DLC is a feature that should have been included in the base game. Unfortunately, House of Wolves expands on every failure of Destiny and The Dark Below, with the removal of 6 player raids. The DLC isn't worth $10, much less $20.

The high rated reviews are coming from people paid to up-vote. Spliced together maps from other areas to create a couple new pvp maps, NO RAIDS and a $20 pricetag? Bungie still owes the users from how they robbed us in the Dark Below. This game is designed to take your money that is it. A couple of hours of game play total. Stay Away!

$20 for 2 hours of recycled content. This is just another cash grab from Bungie and Activision. Anyone who actually likes this game is delusional and should not be taken seriously.

Simply put, only played this purely because I bought it. It was better than the Dark Below which is not saying much. Bungie's attempt of a story is embarrassing. Prison of Elders is like a hoard mode which has been done before. Lastly, NO RAID! WTF. I will not be buying Comet. Bungie has completely bungled this game from the start. House of Wolves is a shallow, insulting and lazy 'expansion', and fact it is labelled as an expansion is both ludicrous and shameful. An abysmal story, atrocious writing and lack of content is just for starters. Most missions are from the same old areas but in reverse, or even worse, allows access to previous areas blocked off and locked out. It is a shallow and hollow grind with limited content.

First off, the few positive reviews are way too positive to be real. They must be Bungie employees in fear of losing their jobs because they know how lazily they put Destiny and its DLC together.

This is definitely a scam. I quit playing when crucible became a lagfest and the rest of the content was clearly never going to get fixed. So many raids having to start over, bosses not dying

This is definitely a scam. I quit playing when crucible became a lagfest and the rest of the content was clearly never going to get fixed. So many raids having to start over, bosses not dying at the end so you have to redo the whole mission, etc.

I came back to check out HoW because I already paid to get access to it. Since I was foolish enough to preorder the digital limited edition (which happens to be the only one you can't return). I lowered my expectations drastically, but it wasn't enough.

Not only did they not include a new raid, they had the nerve to recycle part of Vault of Glass raid and even doing the oracles part. This was one of the "new" missions. Other missions had you running from the original finish to start from previous missions. The story is even worse. The gameplay is artificially padded to make the game seem longer than it is. The ways to get better guns and armor are even more tedious than the raids were. Bottom line, Bungie is getting very cocky with how dumb they think we are. This whole DLC was a slap to the consumers face.

Stay away. This is not worth $20. Maybe $5, but it still would be about as much fun as rolling in a pile of rusty nails.
Bungie, and I believe I speak for many people, you ripped us off for the last time. You can take Destiny 2 and cram it back down the gutter from where it came. I am never buying another product from you again.

You liked running through content that's already on your game but backwards?
Do you enjoy killed the exact same enemies that look only slightly different but fight the same?
Do you love having no story line and developing no care for any characters in a game world?
    Than buy this expansion!!!!!

apart from one or two cool story missions and a couple of nice brand new loot items nothing in the house of wolves DLC works the story is once again very poor along with a overlong and boring Prison Of Elders not to mention trials of Osiris is extremely annoying and thorn dominated.

Negative Points worth mentioning are, the release has a few story missions which are all presented via the original game maps but in reverse, a story you will forget about by the second mission, uninspiring characters and more platforming. In the vanilla game Vault of Glass raid, two of the primary grumbles are "Oracles" and the platforming, both of which were included here in the expansion to remind you of how much you disliked them originally.

Conclusion: You can complete the entirely new content in an evening, by which time you will have gotten all of the PVE content completed and most of pleasure from the release. If you have the season pass it is a worthy distraction on a rainy day, but if you do not, then feel free to keep clear safe in the knowledge that you have not missed anything of merit

I'm big fan of the game, but after HoW launch I managed to play it for a week before I quit it completely. House of Wolves is bad DLC, but does a better job than The Dark Below by allowing the story for Skolas be more fleshed out than even the "story" for the base game. The Prison of Elders is a cool idea, but is very tedious and makes the grave sin of making only certain light levels and weapons the only viable way of beating the endgame goal of Skolas himself. A solid DLC that manages to inject new fun into the daily grind of Destiny. It’s noteworthy that the new strike mission feels like a lost level of Halo. [June 2015]
