Déraciné has a fantastic atmosphere and wonderful storytelling. It utilizes VR and PlayStation Move to create a type of interaction not seen in other games. The innocence characters show to the player add a warm and friendly feeling to what is already a fascinating adventure game.

Déraciné is a wonderful faerie tale from beginning to end, with all the mystery and lore breadcrumbs of a proper From Software to keep players guessing until the end.

FromSoftware steps away from brutal combat to deliver a touching, often heartbreaking adventure, and it's one of the absolute best PSVR adventures currently available.

Déraciné is a VR experience that will not take to long to finish, but will leave a lasting impression. Its one of those games that you can play through multiple times to see if there are other ways to complete a task or see if there are other things to interact with you missed before. I’m hoping that more can be added with DLC in the future, as I can see so much potential to expand this world. Clocking in at just under 4 hours, it may put off some players with its overall length and presentation, but if you want to experience an extremely unique VR game for the PSVR, then I can highly recommend Déraciné. There is nothing quite like it available.

The intriguing story is Déraciné's main draw, but the gameplay's a close second, even though the game does manage to become rather repetitive after a while.

Deracine is one of the better experiences on the PSVR with a compelling story and some interesting gameplay. It feels like a complete experience from start to finish and has an interesting world that begs to be explored further.

Déraciné subverts Japanese horror tropes as easily as it conceals the limitations of virtual reality. By casting the player in an active and passive role in its narrative, it juxtaposes agency with accountability as it creates a tranquil, sinister story. Déraciné is a return to FromSoftware practicing their talent inside of darkness, but mercifully away from Souls.

It's a pity that everyone that doesn't have a VR headset will miss out, because Déraciné is really quite remarkable.

Who or what the titular Déraciné may be is unclear, but don’t let that dissuade you from walking through this wonderful title. A charming cast of characters pair with an incredible environment to explore, while the stirring soundtrack helps to elevate an already good title. Throw in the great narrative, in and of itself a rarity in VR at this point, and you have one of the best titles available thus far for Sony’s headset.

Déraciné is a fantastic VR experience, with a good story and superb universe. If you own a PSVR, you have to try it.

Déraciné is one of the best exponents of traditional video games on PlayStation VR, for the artistic work done by From Software and Japan Studio, and is recommended to those who are already familiar with smaller games and want a "complete" title to savor in virtual reality.

Deracine’s initially dulcet tone certainly won’t be for everyone but scratch below the surface and you’ll discover a VR adventure that heads in some fascinating new directions. It’s a bizarre beast, placing the ambiguity From Software is known for in the front and center but, despite its often ham-fisted dialogue, it finds genuinely powerful moments of connection as it weaves a memorable yarn.

As the first VR game of Hidetaka Miyazaki, Deracine is a good start. The graphics and the playing part are both nice, and the narrative style will impress a lot of players.

FromSoftware’s foray into VR is as fascinating for its storytelling ambitions as it is disappointing in its overly familiar gameplay.

An interesting adventur with some control issues that works exclusively on PS VR, but is not as tailored to VR as we thought it would be.

Déraciné is a beautiful game, with a moving story and simple mechanics. We enjoyed its exploration (with an immersive use of VR) and storyline, but it´s short, and puzzle solving is too easy.

Déraciné is an engaging VR adventure with a tinge of darkness to it that other such games often shy away from. There is a frisson of tension in this story that drives you forward through the conservative VR gameplay mechanics to find out if FromSoftware’s reputation for dark material will eventually surface.

Dull adventure game mechanics are enlivened by a brilliant sense of dread, as the Dark Souls director turns his hand to VR. [Eurogamer Recommended]

Looked at as a whole, there’s something defiantly refreshing about how brazen a departure Déraciné is from Miyazaki and his team’s flashiest, most cash-catching work.
  3. Nov 7, 2018
It might not be what you expected of From Software, but it’s still worth seeing what it’s like to be a faerie for a few hours.

A gentle narrative, which has characters with fully animated faces (abnormal for From Software), that will move you to solve it's tender story-teller's puzzles as you attempt to right the wrongs of their past. The string duo soundtrack perfectly conveys the character's woeful innocence as the sullen melodies chase each other down the hallowed halls of this unforgettable school. It's end will likely leave you with a heavy heart and throughout it's unfolding, your head will be spinning with how characters, settings, and details from this faerie tale might possibly connect to other FS titles... What I found, however, was one of my favorite interactive experiences, a simple but deeply personal story about the value of time. There is no problem with simple mechanics like those found in point and click or visual novel games, only a critical scenario that is obsessively blinded by its belief that there is a canonical evolution of game mechanics and graphics that sees games with minor focus on player skills as less valuable and hinders entire genres like JRPGs as obsolete. I am very gratified for trusting in Miyazaki to create distinct experiences instead of doing what others believe he is good at. Especially considering we are talking about a director that is known for creating some of the hardest action games that greatly impacted our industry. I am looking forward to being positively surprised once again in Sekiro. Full Review »
