    A masterpiece! As a gamer from the 70s this is a breath of fresh air amongst the boring re-skinned games and god awful Fortnite garbage. It's new, fresh...clever and unique. Progress and hard work reap rewards. I have beat the game (55 hours)and after 20 hours or less I could easily get about the game world. It's all a learning curve. Those that struggle have either no patience or brain?

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't see how anyone can give this game a 0-6 or a 10, whether you like it or not, games are a work of art these days and it truly is one. That said, a game is a game for most of us, and I can see why people dont like the gameplay as it can be tedious and repetitive trekking with a load of packages and delivering them. I did enjoy finding routes to traverse the terrain and enjoyed gathering materials to build roads, it was tedious yet addictive.
    I found the story a tad confusing but intriguing and there were some marvelous performances from start to finish. Overall I loved the experience, and that's why I have given it a 9, but as a game I cant give it a 10, I wont spoil the ending but it was very drawn out and long, be prepared for that, but yes all in all well done Kojima, I have never experienced any game like it!    … Expand

    I dont understand all the hate i feel like most people who put negative reviews played alittle or not at all. The more you play this the more intriguing it becomes maybe it isnt for everyone but this game deserves a better score than the one its recieving currently the actors in this game are amazing. From Norman reedus to Mads Mickelson. Even the voice actors like Troy Baker do an amazing job.

    This game is great. The cutscenes and story really tie it all together. The gameplay is very rewarding due to the story. However, the game has a FATAL flaw....order no. 47. Seriously the worst mission I have ever played in a video game. I LITERALLY propped my thumb stick forward with a roll of paper towels and watched as Sam slowly drudged his way up a snowy mountain for FIFTEEN minutes.This game is great. The cutscenes and story really tie it all together. The gameplay is very rewarding due to the story. However, the game has a FATAL flaw....order no. 47. Seriously the worst mission I have ever played in a video game. I LITERALLY propped my thumb stick forward with a roll of paper towels and watched as Sam slowly drudged his way up a snowy mountain for FIFTEEN minutes. Was this seriously intended? They didn't go over the mission where you slowly walk in snow for 15-30 minutes and go "Hey maybe we should just delete that one" then you have to walk BACK another 15-30 minutes because the location you go to does not have fast travel. On top of this you get nothing from the location other than a skeleton that helps you walk thru the snow SLIGHTLY faster. Damn that would have been really useful before i wasted an hour of my life watching a video game character walk up a snowy mountain. There is a faster way thru, but it has BTs and this is one of the only orders where you have no BB. This game was a solid 10 until this mission, thats how bad it was. A lot of other orders have made me so frustrated but I usually end up realizing there is something I could have done better. For order no. 47, there is nothing I could have done better. You can't sneak past BTs in this mission so you are literally forced to just walk in the snow thru absolutely nothing, which there really is no faster way to do this as far as game mechanics are concerned. It's so annoying that this game is an easy VERY positive score with the removal of maybe 3 orders.

    Also, any person giving this game a rating in the 0-4 range (especially 0) has not actually played the game or is entirely irrational. Despite the few botched missions it is extremely polished, more so than 99% of games this decade. If you're on the fence about this game, just know there is A LOT of walking/hiking around. But if you're patient and enjoy amazing art direction and story telling, you'll find a deep purpose in all the walking/hiking around.    … Expand

    Simply one of the best games I have played. People calling it “boring” just don’t get it. Yes you are delivering packages from point a to point b but you have terrorists, monsters called bts, and the terrain to deal with. The game is excellent because it gives you loads of choice in how to deal with these issues which I love. Want to simply speed by the terrorist in a truck avoiding their attacks or sneak by the bts instead of combating them? You can also do that. There is tons of player choice when it comes to selecting your losdout for missions. You can bring plcs which let you build several different structures such as shelters and generators, you can bring ladders, ropes, power, speed, or terrain skeletons to boost weight capacity and mobility, different weapons, vehicles, and much more. The community features for this game are simply amazing. Once you connect an area to the chiral network you can use the structure and vehicles others have placed on the map and even send lines to other players. I have gotten so many likes for well placed roads and generators and it’s jusy a good feeling contributing to the game world, I love it.

    In my opinion, the people calling this game “boring” never gave it a chance in the first place. This is truly a 10/10 game in my opinion and I’m leaving a in depth review as to why.    … Expand

    Seamos sinceros... es una fumada impresionante, de las de noche entera encerrados en un coche dandole al canuto...
    Como juego es lo que es, un walking simulator con un par o 3 de mecanicas jugables (EV, Mulas y planificar ruta)... peeeero la historia siendo fumada a mi al menos me ha enganchado.

Now it's finally out, the reviews have been streaming in and so far it's got mixed opinions for a variety of reasons. After the famous split between Kojima and Konami, one of these projects Death Stranding had been teased for quite a long while. Now it's finally out, the reviews have been streaming in and so far it's got mixed opinions for a variety of reasons. The first thing that might put people off is that at it's heart, it isn't an action game (or at least, it isn't at first). It does appear to share and engine and some control mechanics from the MGSV games but other than that, this is entirely it's own property and focuses more in terms of Sci-Fi and Horror than other genres.

    You play as Sam Porter Bridges, motion captured and voiced by Norman Reedus (an actor most famous for The Walking Dead and Blade 2)
    Sam is essentially a courier tasked with travelling the strange and inhospitable landscape caused by a post-apocalyptic event where society is reduced to living mostly in bunkers with very little resources. Key aspects of the game include balancing your cargo load, carrying collapsible ladders and climbing anchors to make yours (and other players') journeys easier. You have to maintain your walking boots, keep your chest-mounted BB unit happy and look after your health and stamina. Crouching makes you slower and makes carrying heavy loads easier. Walking and running will shift the cargo weight onto one side, forcing you to move more slowly or stabilise yourself to avoid falling and damaging the cargo.

    Throughout the world your presense to other players (if online mode is enabled) will allow for player-made structures and signs to appear in your game. You can award these likes so that other players may reward those who are generous with their time and resources.

    You'll encounter some rogue forces too. There are the MULEs which are a hostile entity that will steal your supplies and will enter combat with you if you stray into their territory. There are the BTs that appear during periods of heavy rain. These semi-invisible forces are hostile and will attempt to pull you into the underworld which will force you to respawn and make you lose your progress.

    There are a large number of cutscenes in the game, some are from colleagues giving you information but others are fully rendered video sequences which set the story and fill in the world. There is an extensive backstory and text notes which fill in the game's lore and give you a better idea of the world.

    Later on you are able to fabricate objects based on blueprints and can upgrade your equipment. The map will open up to you allowing you to travel further and take on riskier jobs.

    The visuals in the game are stunning and definitely push the Playstation 4 to new heights in terms of technical achievements. The music and sound in the game is exceptionally well done, some of the named bands contributing songs have done a great job and these always play at the right time. The voice acting is excellent and definitely some of the best VA work I've heard in recent years. Gameplay is understandably a bit of a mixed bag for some, your character is meant to be quite normal so you do have to keep your footing and watch your stamina gauge to avoid tiring yourself.

    An amazing game, every time I finish a contract, I can't wait to get out there again. I've been having so much fun the last week, exploring, and watching structures suddenly popping up that others build.
    The entire progression system rewrites the book what progression should be. A true masterpiece.

I didn't do much research, but just saw people's horrible reviews and gameplay videos, but I decided to give it a shot.

    When I first started playing, I was blown away by the immersive soundtrack and rain (I also play with 7.4.4 surround sound system on OLED which may have made this experience so amazing). It was relaxing, intriguing, stylish, and trance-like. Full of art with Planet-Earth like visuals.

    Then, when I moved, I thought it was so creative in how the terrain correlated with my fatigure/energy in what I was carrying and such. Having been through a nasty nasty divorce, this game has been somewhat therapeutic and reflective. It's like a peaceful dreamworld, but the peace is intermittently threatened.
    I can go on and on, BUT....if you appreciated the movie MARTIAN, enjoy nature, and innovative gameplay with SCI-Fi elements, this is a game for you.

    I can understand why some people feel this game is boring, but that could be due to personality or taste....    … Expand

    I spent an hour playing the game an I really enjoy it. Its very engaging as of right now I wish i was at home still playing it. But i had to go to work. Just try the game first for yourself before saying its terrible which it is not 9/10 is my rating of Death Stranding.

    Amazing game with a new way to play asymetric multiplayer. Loved the story, characters, world building. The gameplay was fun and fresh. The visuals are solid and the caracters look great. If you dig the core gameplay loop you'ill love this game.

    Все кто пишут что в игре нехуй делать либо не играли в нее, либо 2 часа стрима посмотрели.     I can only fell sorry for Kojima. He made one of the best games ever. Those fools that gave it a low grade couldn't understand one bit cause they are used to Battlefield or CoD filled with fights and deaths or maybe they are just haters.
    This game is relaxing, has mistery and most important: a great story. A really new and unique experience.

    I may be biased because I love Kojimas catalogue of work and everything about his games. I think a lot of people were disappointed because they misunderstood Kojimas direction. This was never supposed to be an action packed shooter with huge adventuring spectacle and all the usual tropes of a AAA game. He didnt promise anything I believe we just hyped it up to what we wanted the game toI may be biased because I love Kojimas catalogue of work and everything about his games. I think a lot of people were disappointed because they misunderstood Kojimas direction. This was never supposed to be an action packed shooter with huge adventuring spectacle and all the usual tropes of a AAA game. He didnt promise anything I believe we just hyped it up to what we wanted the game to be. I personally love every single piece of this game. I love the way it feels, the story, the immersion, and the message. I definitely think this game will go down in history, and maybe it's not being appreciated in it's time. But I believe the intentions of Kojima were portrayed perfectly in this game while still being a game. He wants America to come together, to communicate properly with eachother. Hell I've avoided violence at all costs in this game because the consequences are devastating

    Everyone who thinks that the game is boring is in a big mistake.
    Cargo delivery and the mechanics are super addictive. And Im a guy who left RDR2 because of the slow and boring gameplay. DS has very good story and very good presentation. Its 100% Kojima game.
    Just try it before you judge it!

    Played all night on release, cleared my day friday and went on good stretchs all week to the early hours of the mornings, 60 hours in and it's absolutely incredible. I'm bleary eye and sore from sitting but it was worth every second and no regrets.

    Addicting at its core with an amazing Story to photo realistic graphics on PRO. The world building is the most unique and interesting thing    Played all night on release, cleared my day friday and went on good stretchs all week to the early hours of the mornings, 60 hours in and it's absolutely incredible. I'm bleary eye and sore from sitting but it was worth every second and no regrets.

    Addicting at its core with an amazing Story to photo realistic graphics on PRO. The world building is the most unique and interesting thing to be added to the video game medium in years. Hell, so many things are unique here. I ask myself at times "what the hell am I playing" and I don't know the answer at times but I am well and truly addicted to it.

    The production is perfect, the pacing is exceptional and while there is frustration to be had it is minor. I don't want to get into the "boring gameplay" argument cause that is subjective, camping in CoD is one mans idea of fun gameplay for example but the goals and objectives set out here are fun, extremely fun and unique in fact. I spent 4 hours helping build a road I probably will never use again for main missions.

    10 Kojimas out of 10 Kojimas. It's now in my top 10 games ever.    … Expand

    Kojima was brave enough to make a different game from nowadays fast-food-gaming industry. And he made a game that whoever appreciates it could enjoy for a good long while not because of the hype. I felt it was a lot like PS3    When a games receives two extreme ratings of good and bad, it simply means the game is good, especially when good ratings are way more than those bad ratings.

    Kojima was brave enough to make a different game from nowadays fast-food-gaming industry. And he made a game that whoever appreciates it could enjoy for a good long while not because of the hype.

    I felt it was a lot like PS3 Gundam crossfire when it first came out, it had the lowerest rating because it didn't satisfy the younger audience who mostly only played Gundam in the Dynasty Warriors style and couldn't understand the original Gundam 0079's background. However, to a hardcore fan like myself we saw that game as one of the greatest Gundam game ever made, even GBO followed its trail, that says something about how the developer team valued the ideology of Gundam Crossfire and why so many players spending money on GBO.

    Death Stranding is certainly not for everyone, it's like the movie "Lost in Translation", I couldn't understand it when I was young, but now it's my all time favourite as I've learned and experienced more things in life.    … Expand

    Its a great game easily a 8/10. The story is pretty good and the acting by everyone is really good. The gameplay isn't what your expecting i wouldn't say its not fun cause it is fun but its a different type of fun, the gameplay is just deliverying packages plain and simple. Your a delivery man and they showed that in all the trailers so if you dont like that this game isn't for you.

    People who rate this a 0 are ignorant that the whole point of this game is about connecting people and forming bonds. It’s a thematic game with its roots buried deep in that concept and it’s a shame that Kojimas intended message of togetherness is being dismissed by people who just want the same mainstream gameplay of pointing and shooting at things. It’s insulting.

    Absolutely amazing game. Haters are always gonna hate though. Negative backlash against this game is ridiculous. 90% of them never even played the game most likely. Definitely game of the year contender !

    Death Stranding is a fun and interesting game with a captivating story and strangely fun gameplay. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do now. Death Stranding kinda reminds me of Marmite you either love it or hate it.

    Love this game, but I do understand that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. My girlfriend hates it. However, this game made me care about mechanics in games that I never cared about before, and somehow managed to make the act of delivering packages (which i always avoid in other games) fun and interesting.     Awesome game, got platinum trophy. Great gameplay, genius players interactions system. Beautiful graphics, animations and world overall. mind blowing story, fantastic music, varied characters. overall well composed masterpiece. Whoever calls it a "walking sim" obviously didn't play the game and did not engage. Good job Kojima! (i'm not a fan boy)

I bought it becuz I'd heard it was a delivery game. A bleak delivery game. My favorite games are Stardew Valley and Skyrim in that order. Never in my life have I stood up from my couch and CLAPPED at a title screen. I did that with Death Stranding. I think my mouth has been literally open like a dumb fish mouth for 80% of my game play. I was not prepared. For the beauty. The detailing. The sheer emotional insanity of having a protagonist in a video game actively avoiding eye contact with me while we sit on our respective sitting things. For the lil astronaut toy dangling off of BB. Am I running around delivering pkgs and falling on my ass every 2 seconds? Yup. The feeling of fierce protection I have for both the main character and his lil babby frend while trying to complete a task is... I've never experienced anything like it. I apologize endlessly to them both. Out loud. So. I like games with cute animals and planting turnips, or vast open worlds where I can shoot a bandit or 2 with my bow and arrow. Death Stranding has clawed it's way into my top 3 games of all time, I'm on Chapter 2. It's the most dream like immersive game I have every seen, I didnt think anything like it could ever be created. It's just something about the details man. The devil is all up in them. I play slow, I play steady and that's with every game. I dont wanna miss anything. Death Stranding rewards my type of gameplay. It pays attention to how much I want to pay attention. I havent seen this before., an entire dream world fleshed out so fully. I've been enjoying the game so far and love the motion capture in the cut scenes (there are many, again this is a Kojima game). There is combat but it's spread out and can be frustrating because your goal is usually to deliver a bunch of cargo, not be an action hero fighter. There are easy ways around combat once you learn a handful of simple strategies (Sam is not a great fist fighter). Terminal entries and emails have been interesting and fill in some of the lore but won't be attractive for gamers who hate reading. The combination of the soundtrack and overall aesthetic of the world, environments and characters has kept me hooked and continuing to build the chiral network. I've seen a few of my friend's structures in my game and it's fun to see where they've been and use items they've left as a free shortcut. It's a slow paced game and is almost more like a cinema experience early on. While this definitely isn't a game for everyone, I have no idea why some are rating it a 0 as if they're surprised about what's in it, to me it was basically what I expected it to be.     It has been a while I haven't played a revolutionary game and I have to admit this game is the best in this genre. You either love or hate the game; there is nowhere in between. The characters each have an amazing story and the finishing episodes are extraordinary breathtaking.

There's also stealth, combat, vehicles, and an interesting online community component where players contribute to build structures that help you navigate the harsh environment faster. And of course there is the crazy setting and story you've seen in the trailers. Playing leisurely It took me 65 hours to beat the game.     I didnt even like the Metal Gear games. But i am SO HAPPY that i gave death stranding a try. One of the best experiences ive had the pleasue to play. The highlight is definately its overwhelmingly interesting world! Biggest downside is the gameplay loop might not work for some players with zero patience.

    A beautiful game with a great story. Obviously a slower pace game that will be hated by some. But me, as really a non picky gamer, I'm ok with this. For me it's an enjoyable experience with fun combat and really eerie spots when trying to sneak around BTs.

    I played 20+ hours and i really enjoy it till now, it's refreshing, something different.
    It can be boring to walk the whole time but you know that's the only thing that i didn't enjoy super much.

I think we are going to look back at this title in 10 years and only then realise how truly special this actually is. Also love the soundtrack...     It's like an interactive completely original Sci fi epic. I don't play games often and have fou d games like RDR2 boring due to the constant travelling, but this game is great. The traversing is actually interesting, you have to be strategic.

It's definitely a GOTY candidate for me. If you can't handle a good story or unique gameplay and expected something that isn't down to earth and Kojima-style game then you haven't paid attention. It really starts getting more intense the more you get on with it and the once rather annoying game mechanics get eased a lot by a lot of gadgets you obtain during the story. If you take a look at these negative reviews, most of them seem to have no idea what this game is all about, don't listen to them, if you think this game looks intriguing try it out, I found the first few hours a bit slow but I got hooked right after and played 4-5 days straight until I got to the end. Think about what Kojima wanted to tell us with these parallels to our own fractured society and the metaphors within the game and you might find yourself enjoying the game as much as I did… Expand

I can truly say I've never thought I'd love delivering packages in a game, but its oddly satisfying. The story is amazing and unique, piques you curiosity and keeps getting better the more you progress. I have cried, been terrified and stunnedIt's so unlike any other game I've played, hints of metal gear solid, but yet totally different. Very artistic, so much deeper meaning in this game. I can truly say I've never thought I'd love delivering packages in a game, but its oddly satisfying. The story is amazing and unique, piques you curiosity and keeps getting better the more you progress. I have cried, been terrified and stunned by events in the game. And I'm not even halfway through. Kojima you have outdone yourself good sir, I tip my proverbial hat to you. 9/10… Expand

    Не ужели?!!!! Где то 5 лет такой игре можно было только мечтать. Большой актерский состав и их великолепная игра. Графика просто на высоте. А эта атмосфера, она затягивает и затягивает. А музыка делает все ещё лучше. Многие ругают игру из-за длинного геймплея, но (ничего не имею против рокстар) тут все на много интереснее чем рдр2.     Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it.     This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

    Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
