    I bought it at release but sold it a few days later save your time and money! I was a massive fan of Kojima as MGS is one of my favorite series, till the unfinished MGSV came along that is..This is perhaps the only game in my life that gave me buyers remorse, a colossal failed experiment with the most inconherent story in the history of video games. The 5000 characters this sham of a siteI bought it at release but sold it a few days later save your time and money! I was a massive fan of Kojima as MGS is one of my favorite series, till the unfinished MGSV came along that is..This is perhaps the only game in my life that gave me buyers remorse, a colossal failed experiment with the most inconherent story in the history of video games. The 5000 characters this sham of a site provides isn't nearly enough to describe how monotonous, incoherent, pretentious and deceptive Death Stranding is as a whole, from it's painful gameplay to it's unbelievably shady marketing as a product. I'd give it a 4 at best but since this site has now deleted over 6000 justified negative reviews and opinions it's getting the 0 it probably deserves, due to how much hype it had when it justified none of it at all. Oh and don't forget it's guaranteed to win GOTY at the Game Awards next week, of course it will, the host has a cameo appearance ffs, not shady at all.. no gameplay shown in it's marketing, not shady at all.. 6000+ negative reviews deleted, not shady at all..… Expand

    UPS simulator 2019. A very disappointing game imo. Very repetitive, boring combat, weird ads placement... Wish it had more to it.

    Very disappointed with this game, I was expecting something more than a glorified walking simulator. Graphics are great, but absolutely no sustainable gameplay. Walking across America just doesn’t cut it.

I only played 4 hours of this 40 hour game.     you play as norman reedus aka sam, a glorified post man….
    that’s not even a joke.. youre literally a delivery man.. the game is you taking packages from one place to another, climbing terrain, balancing your character as you walk with the trigger buttons, and trying not to get snatched up by a whale squid while your little attached baby goes crazy
    On paper Death Stranding itself sounds like a fine game…
    A relaxing journey delivering post, overcoming the terrain, the occasional enemy.. 12 hours of greatly acted and well animated cutscenes… if this were all it were I could’ve maybe managed another 4 hours or even the entire game..
    But Death Stranding biggest flaw is its over complication of a simple concept….
    Theres just too much here that it becomes overwhelming…so much explaining what everything does and what you can do with posts, and crafting, you can take a shower or **** pound down some monster energy drinks while you go out to rebuild America….
    and I just couldn’t bother to get into it or pay attention…
    so much talking, so many mechanics, so many systems, so much inventory management and things to balance and worry about
    and for what? A game just about walking from one place to another to unlock the next 20 minute cutscene?
    Death stranding feels like a boring lecture rather than a mythotical journey that it could have been…
    I havnt played enough death stranging to fairly score it so I wont…
    Ill just leave you with don’t believe the hype… Death Stranding is getting great scores for no reason other than it’s a Kojima game.

    This is not a game. It’s a walking simulator with a pretentious story thrown in. Kojima has made some great games in the past, but everyone makes mistakes. Death Stranding is his mistake. I want to play games that are fun. If it’s not fun why bother? And this game isn’t fun in the slightest. So I won’t bother, and I suggest you don’t either.

    All the negative reviews are Frank and detailed from experienced gamers. The positive reviews mainly defend Kojima and attack the "trolls" without actually reviewing the game. This should be telling enough. The game is clearly boring, albeit visually stunning. The story is intriguing yes but told in a clumsy and repetitive fashion. Avoid.

    30+ hours in...This game is a piece of dog$h!t. Back and forth...and back and forth...garbage. The only redemption is completely stripping the game down and offering a dlc with entirely different ways to play in the existing environments.

    I wasn't going to write a review for this game. I'd moved on to better games so was just going to leave it.
    but now that I've seen metacritic has censored over 6000 negatives reviews to artificially bump up the user score of this game at the behest of kojima productions. i'll say what I think of it because such practices are cancer in the video game industry.

    speaking of the cancer in the industry.. this game is awful what an embarrassment.. there's so much product placement in your face throughout most of the game. horrible face scans of hack celebrities pollute the already cringey and ridiculous dialogue segments. the game relies on cheap slow progression to stimulate a dopamine hit in the brains of idiots who keep playing this garbage via meaningless social media type "likes". progression is structured like a predatory gambling or mobile game in that nothing in the game is remotely good for the player or fun or mechanically solid or well designed but the game keeps drip feeding you in the hope your an idiot manipulated by addiction bait.
    this game is **** it's slow, boring, tedious, monotonous, repetitive walking and back tracking through bland and empty environments (the characters even reference the fact the game is boring.. like that makes it ok).
    The purpose of the game is grinding to make the the gameplay less boring and **** you walk and you walk some more, you perform the same tedious tasks over and over in order to unlock and build things that make those crappy tasks less slow and boring and can pretty much skip gameplay entirely.
    the game never approaches being good. it's either slow and boring or you unlock things to make it less slow and it's still boring and still sucks.

    The physics and controls are wonky garbage. nothing in the game has engaging game design. it all seems to be designed to be tedious. a lot of the voice acting is awful the bad guy is the only character who doesn't sound like he's reading directly off a script written in gibberish. and a lot this game IS just stupid gibberish, the game rewards your tedious labour with pointless repeating cutscene sequences that take too long to skip and with characters talking at you with long boring exposition the game seems to think is super profound and show no respect for you time when dumping it on you. you grunt in Normal Reedus in response, backtrack home, drink your Monster Enegery Drink™ and then rinse and repeat.
    The writing is awful. the game really thinks it's something special and self aware but Ironically in it's attempt to be that, it's shown to be the opposite and all the messages, themes and metaphors come across hamfisted, childish and super on the nose if not down right moronic when a character called fragile's catchphrase is "i'm fragile but i'm not.. that fragile".
    this game is an embarrassing self indulgent turd. 0/10. It's **** but it's not that **** oh wait yes it is.    … Expand

    It's the worst game of the generation, not even a game, it's a delivery simulator, I spent 10 hours delivering packages and nothing happened, NOTHING. I will return this game and never get my hands on anything Kojima does. How did sony pay for this game? No QA?

    There is making a long difficult grindy game like The Witness where it feels like there is purpose and direction, then there is this game which is a nightmare mess of survival game mechanics and long boring cutscenes interspersed with equally long periods of frustration.

    I would rate it 3 or maybe 4 considering the graphics and music but it was so hyped up and imho does not deserve the hype at all. Critics who give this game above 65-70 are delusional. Probably same guys who gave Joker 3 out of 10. In any case it's a disappointment. Will finish on Youtube with fast forward of gameplay just for the story.

    Without Konami Kojima is just a madman. Sony already freaking out, it’s sucks but I don’t think that we’ll ever see AAA game from Kojima. Or it’s a blessing.

    AMAZING graphics, AMAZING sound design, Pretty good story, VERY cool enemies

    The WORST gameplay of any game this decade, no joke. I have seen Indie titles developed in 24 hours that were more fun to play than this, and this alone ruins it all. If you are considering buying it, don't. Watch a playthrough on YouTube instead, it's just a walking simulator anyway.

    We should have never doubted Konami. This **** hack burned through countless millions making an unfinished game that was MGSV and now has delivered a literal 80 hour fetch quest

    Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it.     This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

    Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
