People who dislike this game literally don't understand it, they are trying to find some "fun" in game that don't have it, this game is about story, about our doings, our lives, our mistakes. This game raises a number of questions, and makes you think about really important things, it’s a pity that stupid people don’t understand this. Thank you, Kojima. Let me first start out by saying that it is very evident from some of the lower scored reviews and what they are saying that they have only played the very beginning of the game or haven’t even played it at all. The first 2 episodes are rather slow, and aim to lay the foundation for the story and expose the player to the fundamentals of traversal and cargo management. Like other KojimaLet me first start out by saying that it is very evident from some of the lower scored reviews and what they are saying that they have only played the very beginning of the game or haven’t even played it at all. The first 2 episodes are rather slow, and aim to lay the foundation for the story and expose the player to the fundamentals of traversal and cargo management. Like other Kojima games this game is huge and opens up after some initial slow chapters. The sheer volume of content from customization, tools, vehicles and weapons you will come across create a varied non repetitive experience. I advise anyone to get to chapter 3 and will in to it before forming an opinion on this game. There is a lot more to it than just going point A to B. That is a review for the first chapter or so. Also like other Kojima games, new abilities, tools and customizations are not spoon fed to you, you must explore the game and help the people in this world before they return the favor and provide you with useful upgrades and tools to help you on your journey west. I very much like this approach, it makes very new tool, vehicle, weapons, etc. feel earned. There is stunning imagery, music and a fascinating story here too. There is a lot under the surface waiting to be discovered. I can say after about 12 hours in this game I feel for it the way I did for Phantom Pain. It is an amazing, detail rich, well thought game that inspires the imagination and encourages the player to really play the game. Expand

    BEST GAME OF 2019 EASILY!

This game is so emotional and deep like nothing I've experienced in a long while. It became one of my top favorite of all time games during the ~100 hours I played so far (and I'm not done). The story is so beautiful and dark and twisted... exactly what I enjoy! The gameplay requires the player to prepare, think, and put some effort, and if you don't wanna do

The gameplay requires the player to prepare, think, and put some effort, and if you don't wanna do this, then that's okay you can play something else, no need to get mad!
I absolutely loved the gameplay. It was fun and relaxing at times, scary and frantic at others. There's a perfect mix between action and calm. The cutscenes and graphics are the best I've ever seen, hands down.

Fantastic world and music can't cover the lacking of gameplay. You just move back and forth between different places. The idea of using tool to help you deliver the goods looks interesting at the first 3 hours, but this system lacks of depth, you just repeat the boring errand over and over again...that;s not a right way to do a "immersive game".

It is visually beautiful, totally immersive, very imaginative and the music and audio in general are some of the best I've ever experienced in a game. Though Death Stranding is unique, it reminds me of my favourite games of an earlier era, in that it is a 'slow burn' and not everything is explained. It throws you in the deep end and doesn't contain many of the trappings of modern gaming. At the same time, the generally non-violent approach and message of the title is really refreshing and something I've wanted from AAA games for a long time (I'm aware indie games have offered alternative gaming approaches for a while, but nothing with this budget and cinematic flair.)
It's a real shame this is being review-bombed here. The gaming looks dull on paper, but in practice is really addictive, strangely satisfying and only gets better as time goes on. The plot, world, gaming mechanisms and online aspect all fit coherently together in a cohesive and thoughtful way and point towards a unified message in a way I've not experienced in a game before. Sure, it is 'weird', but only because everything else has become pretty similar. Anyone familiar with 'harder' sci-fi ideas won't particularly struggle here. I wish games of this level of polish and originality were made more often. I've thoroughly enjoyed it, and not because I'm a Hideo Kojima 'fan' (I don't really understand being a 'fan' of any creator.) I enjoy it because it's a fresh, well-made, beautifully unique experience!

Kojima is a genius. He is the last of a dying breed of game designers. Once he hangs up his boots we can only look forward to AAA games that are made by committee (outside the world of Nintendo that is). That is a depressing thought for me. Without Konami's editing, one can feel and appreciate Hideo Kojima's creative forces behind the Metal Gear games. Hideo Kojima likes making games with smart, gritty, story-driven missions with militaristic undertones that have protagonists fully equipped with the latest tech to get the job done. All of this manifests in Death Stranding reasonably well, with some caviats. Fantasy job-simulator games have a somewhat niche market. The experience is there, but the amount of enjoyment one gets out of the game depends on how much they like the job description. Basically, in Death Stranding, you play as a package deliverer in a post-apocalyptic world. While the job is meaningful and vital for the survival of other settlements in the world, the dangers and beauty of the world don't always make up for the tedium that being a long-haul delivery man occasionally brings with it. The experience of this game is essentially the experience of an interesting job that would never exist in our world today, what with transport vehicle technology, decent infrastructure, and the lack of an appocolypse making the concept of this game protagonists' job that much more unnecessary in a developed country. The experience of virtual hiking, on the other hand, is spirit-lifting. Long treks across vast, Iceland-like landscapes make this worthwhile for those with the patience and contentment to appreciate it. Expand

Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
