I was a though first 2 chapters, 3 onwards opens up a world of possibilities and cooperation.

as a comment on youtube said... and I totally agree "Kojima didn't give us the game we wanted.. He gave us the game we needed.."

The reason why this game should be rated 10/10 is because Kojima-san and his team created a new game mechanics which will give you a new video game experience. If people like Kojima would never exist in the video game industry then we all doomed to play in the clone-games like AC, CoD, etc. So yeah, we should support such games which can boost game industry with a new ideas and mechanics.

I am blown away by the depth of the world-building, characterization, and sophistication in Death Stranding. Unsurprisingly, this level of plot construction takes some time build up, not unlike any great odyssey or large-scale fantasy. It feels not dissimilar to the vibes of Bird-Box, Postman, Final Fantasy Spirits Within. It plays a little like MGS5 without emphasizing the violence, although it has a very complex system to learn and gradually build upon. Bottom line: We have plenty of formulaic games already, I tip my hat to Kojima team for making something new and fascinating. If you don't care much for it, you have a plethora of other games to pick from. Expand

The real problem with the game is that if you want to complete all the missions, it is too long lasting.

But then, the story started to evolve in an incredible way and pace. It reached the highest level ever seen in both games and movies.
I should have voted 10 due to a story deserving 12, an overall technical quality deserving 10 and a gameplay deserving 7.5 just because of the stress caused by the number of side quests.
Considering that if you play in hard mode and only the main missions, the gameplay gets a 9, the perfect score is not an option for me.
The genre is rather unique, the environmental interaction is the best ever made, and the plot can only be compared with BioShock Infinite's or predestination's / shutter island's / Inception's, and Kojima also created the most complete and coherent fiction world ever seen. I preferred the Metal Gear saga (I love stealth), but it's for this game that I can say Kojima truly is a genius.
For those who hate gameplay I highly recommend seeing a "game movie" on YouTube, it's more pleasant and interesting than most Hollywood movies, anyway Death Standing Is a Must-to-play or Must-to-see

I love the way you interact with the gaming community without ever seeing them, or being brutally beaten by players that are far more skilled. Kojima and his team created something fresh and exciting and I truly hope DS will be a precursor for future games that focus on this kind of storytelling by combining current social trends with riveting character presentation. The loneliness one feels throughout the game is so fitting into today's social media world, where the hunt for likes and views quiets the humble thrive and longing for real connections. Kojima tells stories like no other and keeps this mood of reflection throughout the entire game, masterfully underscored by an amazing soundtrack. Expand

It's funny to say that this incredibly weird sci-fi epic strikes me as one of the more realistic games because of its excellent mgs-like mechanics. The walking-sim complaints strike me as disingenuous: this is a creepy, emotional, stealth-survival masterpiece, where every step and decision in a treacherous post-apocalyptic world has meaning and consequence. This is obviously not a guns-blazing beat 'em up. It's a carefully plotted strategy game with new systems and a much wider emotional palette than most games. You literally "brace yourself" when things get treacherous. You hold your breath when a powerful force tries to sniff you out. You run like hell when you spot an opening. That these expertly crafted moments seem to be flying under the review-bombers' radar baffles me. If you approach this game like it's a bold and audacious sci-fi epic, and if you read up on what to expect and tune yourself to that, I think you will be blown away by the graphics, sound, and intense suspense of surviving this world and understanding its evocative mystery. It's as rich narratively and visually as any truly great sci-fi movie or story, and it is absorbing intellectually, dramatically, and comically. The game is cinematic heavy and the gameplay requires careful attention managing your inventory and choosing how to navigate the world. I love taking my time inspecting the private rooms that serve as realistic and cinematic pre-mission hubs, and I love expending suspenseful energy and thought making sure that my loadout is suited for my missions. While I'm not a huge inventory freak in rpgs, the way that the systems fit with the narrative and world constantly reward me. Even when I'm at work i'm thinking about how best to prepare to survive and complete a mission. I find it constantly engrossing, and the world begs for me to understand its secrets. I couldn't be more pleased with this game. Finally, something different, beautiful, and awe-inspiring. I hope you give it the chance that it deserves, and approach it with patience and curiosity. You will not be disappointed if you adjust your expectations just the slightest bit to something different. Personally, I think it rivals BoTW with its originality and beautiful world, and it far surpasses it with its narrative. Very well may be my favorite game ever, but I'll let time and further reflection make that decision. Expand

I had to find my way down and try not to destroy BB or my cargo. Every delivery seems very urgent and super satisfying once completed. Especially when I’m being chased by looters trying to steal my cargo and I make a quick escape. The lore and story are fantastic and it reminds me of Abrams “Cloverfield” kind of stuff. I love this game and am addicted. No hype here, I am no fan boy and in fact not a huge fan of the metal gear series. I don’t fall for hype. I put them all down for this game. They will not be played until I finish what I dare to say is a GOTY contender. I haven’t been this hooked to a game this year since Sekiro. 9/10 for me. Expand

The amazing story telling and superb acting, transitions and gives life to some arduous and earnest yet incredibly satisfying gameplay. Gameplay that utilizes (like no game has before) it’s harsh yet stunning environments, which is itself brought to life with perhaps the best looking graphics on a PS4 game to date. Yeah they are fetch quests, but I never had so much fun doing a fetch quest! The whole balance and cargo configuration is definitely game changing. I can feel the new genre Kojima was talking about. This is not a simple "walking simulator", it is an engaging, terrifying, beautiful and emotional experience. It is a refined Kojima game, at its best. I got the same feeling I did when I first played MGS back on the PlayStation, Where as that was a stealth game, this is a delivery game. However, where MGS stealth was straight forward, DS is so much deeper in gameplay. It i amazing how reactive the terrain is to Sam. I could really feel all of the obstacles you have to traverse through. The sound is amazing, and very creepy. The music is very serene and touching, matching the story very well. You can really tell that a lot of effort was put into the sound and music of this game. While people say it is a boring slow paced game, they are probably used to hyper fast games like Fortnite or Overwatch. I say this because I felt the pacing was perfect. You were given time to get used to the mechanics, and explore the world that is simply breath taking. There was lots of story and rest in between, and going to Sam's room always felt meaningful and welcome, after a long journey. This has been a needed breath of fresh air, as games have become the boring same old crap, that I feel like I have played the same game over and over. This gives me hope, that if successful, will inspire more triple A titles to take a chance on something new. The only downside I could say that exists, is that we are going to have to wait at least 3 or 4 more years for a sequel..... I really hope they release some DLC story content that fills in that gap. I am a Kojima fan boy, through and through, but I was still worried in the end that it would not live up to the hype. For me, it did that at the very least. Expand

Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
