The game itself is a quality Kojima game. Sony did a mistake doing so much marketing around it, which attracted too many people with over the top expectations. It supposed to be a game about rope rather then a stick, and it is a game about rope and connections. It has some really good mechanics around it, you just don't have to shoot people.

The map, music and atmosphere ideally shows what happened after the ingame events. Leaving all people disconnected in the empty world of Timefall, which keeps destroying everything you build at a faster pace. You go through the snowy mountains all alone by yourself, yet sometimes you receive a helping hand from other players.
The story is a typical good Kojima story, with ending followed by another ending and follow by additional ending again, and you don't expect any events to end up the cliche way, and Kojima constantly makes fun of the cliche ways itself, even at main protagonist fight.

No contexto geral o jogo é excelente. Expand

The mechanics are striking for these first few hours as you will find the simple task of walking from one place to another laborious and seemingly without purpose. You will find yourself overwhelmed with the many in game systems and overly complex UI. The game, although understandingly having to explain a new IP, goes about introducing this new world in the worst possible way, by telling you with endless cut scenes and dialogue. The opening experience was so harsh i found no hope in the idea of completing this game. Those that are able to find the courage to push through, will be rewarded with one of the best games of the generation. Most everything beyond that point becomes clear and meaningful. Beyond that 5-10 hour mark, the game play becomes satisfyingly addictive corollary to the increased complexity as you introduce more gizmos, vehicles and weapons. The true purpose of that harsh opening becomes clear, serving as the benchmark to gauge how far you have come through your characters progression. The story is unique and introduces fantastic philosophical concepts, driving your purpose to completion. The voice acting and motion capture acting are unmatched, aside from maybe The Last of Us. The graphics, both in game and cut scenes, are as good as any this generation. The sound design pulls you into the world with natures sweeping ambiance. Moments go from serene, to horrific intensity and occasionally peak with musical relief when a landmark comes into view. The boss fights are wildly iconic and are sure to leave a lasting impact. Hideo Kojima's tone is thickly layered into every aspect giving this his signature staples of oddly enjoyable nuances. The social aspect is not the revolution it was made out to be, but does a serviceable job in making you feel like you are part of a connected world. This is truly a unique experience that goes beyond and maximizes what the video game format has traditionally offered over other story telling and idea conveying mediums. I nearly gave up on this game, i'm glad i did not. Expand

It has a very satisfying game play loop, a great story that takes place in an intriguing world with a great cast of characters that are all very well thought out with their own goals and motivations. It truly delivers a different experience. Where we are all pitted against each other to get the most kills, this game encourages and rewards you for helping others, whether they are a player navigating their own world or reconnecting everyone throughout the course of the story.

Even though I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this game I can see where some complaints can ring true. The opening chapters of the game are a little slow because you haven't gotten far enough to unlock most of the games advanced mechanics and going by the trophy statistics that's where most of the negative reviews stem from, which leads me to my final point.

If you're not the type of person that can sit down and complete a game, which statistically is the majority of gamers, this title will fall flat for you. Its a complete experience that really needs to be completed to truly appreciate.

I truly hope that if you read this review and are thinking about purchasing the game that you do so with the intention of giving it your full attention and completing the story. If you can do that, it will be an amazing experience.

Finally a game that isn't run of the mill, its hard for developers to break from standard practices as they often know its a $ risk. While certainly not for everyone. The atmospheric approach in this game to thrust a player into a world that doesn't exist is quite impressive, all the while reminding them how human we are.

Gameplay loop is not for everyone but neither is the movie "the secret life of Walter mitty" which seems to me to be in a similar vein of soft music, Icelandic geography, and emphasis on the journey rather than destinations.

It's an adventure game with pacifist overtones, so if you gotta kill enemies and button mash this isn't for you. The innovative part is the teamwork with other players in single player which drives much of the gameplay satisfaction. Basically this game is a slow burn with a slow start, so I can understand if you wouldn't want to pay full price for a game you won't love in the first night playing. Yet like a 3 hour movie or a 1000 page book, those who stick with it will find loads of content and a payoff in the end to justify the sticker price. I don't like fishing, but those who do appreciate the meditative patience in it that I seem to find myself similarly in Death Stranding hiking a mountain. It's a niche genre but the story is fun so for those on the fence I recommend waiting for PC, as the modding community will really break open more of the magic.

It was said about the Velvet Underground that not many people bought their records, but those who did all started a band. I can see this for Death Stranding; it won't be a blockbuster or GOTY, but it legitimately has clever mechanics and fresh aesthetics that will resonate and possibly inspire the next generation.

For me, Kojima was an avid personality, a proclaimed gaming community, a genius, and that’s it. I myself did not share these views, since I was not lucky to play any of his games. I myself did not share these views, since I was not lucky to play any of his games. And on the horizon appeared a mysterious, promising, eye-catching look of everyone, even outside the game community, "Death stranding" ... My expectations? Yes, no, I thought it would be a mediocre game, which has a very cool marketing company. But ... I will not "pickle" - it's great! What I saw in this work of art exceeded all my expectations (from game projects in general)! The game begins in a World that, at first glance, has no hope of salvation, in a World where only you can change something. And starting to do this, you realize that you are not alone. And this is one of the main ideas of this game - you are not alone! By paving the way to salvation, you are helping to do the same to a person thousands of kilometers away from whom you are never destined to meet. There are thousands of these people, and together you are doing one thing, extending life to this world, giving hope, no matter how pathetic it may sound.
As for the game itself, it is beautiful visually! Incredible landscapes accompanied by unearthly musical compositions! The atmosphere of a beautiful abandoned World, drawn so that you believe in it and absolutely fall in love! The script, plot, actors and their game are all just great! Yes, the game goes beyond the usual gameplay for many, and it's great! Playing as Sam, we really go a lot, carrying on ourselves loads for Nodes, which we must unite in a single network. And it sounds really boring and dry ... In fact, the player is faced with a mass of tools designed to diversify and enrich this gameplay. Firstly, the World is not so empty. In addition to the conditionally invisible presence of other players, the World of the game is teeming with otherworldly entities, simply called Creatures in the Russian voice acting. Their presence makes the player plan his next trip - choose the route, weapons necessary in case of an unpleasant meeting. But secondly, the journey around the world itself is very variable. In addition to the load, you are forced to take with you the right amount of tools to overcome the relief. And all this can not be called boring. If you came to this World to plunge into it, and not to gawk. I do not want to describe the game in the usual manner, this creation is more than a game. I would like to thank Kojima for not following the “crowd”, for the enormous work done, for this art! And it’s very unfortunate that this art gets a rating of “0” - “because I expected another, but got walking” ... Do not judge the game by the commercials of the journalists, do not expect from it what you are used to, accept it and you will not regret it !

It's not Saints Row or Watchdogs, so if you're expecting to have fun by running people over and causing mayhem - this is not your game. This is a peaceful game about overcoming hardship and rebuilding a world in a post-apocalyptic environment.

The map is huge and the terrain is very inhospitable and hard to traverse, that's why you're walking... You can use bikes and trucks that can help you get places, but they have their limits in terrain traversing capabilities, just like real bikes and trucks... So your best bet on getting somewhere - is using your own two feet.

I have awesome time playing this game.

Over 30 hours into the game, I can confidently say that I am ready to give it a final verdict. In my opinion, Death Stranding is able to “connect” every aspect of a video game seamlessly. The amazing story telling and superb acting, transitions and gives life to some arduous and earnest yet incredibly satisfying gameplay. Gameplay that utilizes (like no game has before) it’s harsh yet stunning environments, which is itself brought to life with perhaps the best looking graphics on a PS4 game to date. The extremes in emotion a player will go through while playing this game will range from peaceful and calm to nervous and tense and everything in between. It always left me wanting to find out what’s gonna happen next. Furthermore, the “Social Strand” system is not only a shining light for the game, but an undoubtedly important message to everyone across the world that, we are in fact, stronger if we work together. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Death Stranding is not without some flaws. It is not a game for everyone, the pacing is not perfect, the combat (what there is of it) feels a bit janky, and some boss battles are a bit underwhelming

    However...

In an age where one game after another are nonsensical copy paste action games with barebones story, terrible low budget cutscenes, microtransactions and completely void of artistic vision, Death Stranding stands out as something fresh and remarkable, while still tugging some nostalgic strings when it nods back to the first Metal Gear Solid games.

It's a game that has grown on me even after finishing it. It demands that you reflect on its story and themes.

The gameplay is fresh, and surprisingly fun and addictive, and its visuals are unmatched.

I was worried Kojima was past his prime after the dissappointing MGSV, but DS shows that he has more stories to tell, and what a story it is...

DS is a game that should not be missed, as it stands as one of few games in modern times that tries to push the medium forwards. And it succeeds.

This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
