    I’m thoroughly enjoying the game. First time playing a Kojima game. Loving the story and the science fiction element. I’m wondering how far those that are giving this a bad rating have progressed in the game. Get past episode 3 and things pick up. I took my time and I’m actually glad I did. If you don’t like grindy games, this one isn’t for you. Just move on. No need to give it a badI’m thoroughly enjoying the game. First time playing a Kojima game.     This game is just simply unlike anything I’ve ever played and I can’t get enough. It’s hard to pin what it is that has me so enthralled but this is one of the best experiences in gaming I’ve ever had.

Death Stranding is a open world survival horror game with a heavy emphasis on Kojima's convoluted narrative. It's not a game everyone will find enjoyable, but it's definitely one of the most uniqueThe game does a perfect job at advertising itself as to what expect. It's not a game everyone will find enjoyable, but it's definitely one of the most unique experiences gaming can offer, and no, it would not translate better as a movie or TV show. There is plenty of gameplay involved, just specifically not combat.

    If you're still in doubt, I'd say there's a pretty easy way to tell if you should but the game or not. If you think games can be art, you'll definitely appreciate the weird experience DS has to offer. Otherwise, the game will just feel pretentious and empty to you.    … Expand

    I’m really enjoying this new experience! This is the first time where The transversals of the game are not a chore but an experience by itself! Walking simulator? Absolutely and a good one at it. Perfect? No, but the fact that I’m immersed into pushing the left stick with a purpose instead of just pushing it to go forward It’s a really good and a mindful experience!     I admire the vision of Hideo Kojima. Once again pushing the envelope and daring to break the norm once again.

    My suggestion it’s make this game a game you want to experience for yourself. Don’t look at it as the next big thing, or the next MGS because it’s not going to fulfill that void.

    This world it’s gorgeous and easy to get lost in it!. The story it keeps keeping me interested and I love it. If you want to experience something different than the next CoD or the next AC or the Next Tom Clancy game or the next Madden or the next Fifa. You should give this one a go

    I am getting addicted to this game. This game is niche. VERY niche. It's simply an indy game with AAA development quality. If you like games like Splintires, Flight Simulator, Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Observation then this is for you. One reviewer describe this game as The Granturismo of Walking Simulator.Which is quite accurate.

This is a slow paced game with an enrich story that incrementally gives you reason to keep going but makes it worth it each time. The actors do a tremendous job, especially Norman Reedus. Now if you don’t like him in walking dead then you probably won’t find much in terms of new personality here. But He is the perfect misfit rebel to play this part. The only thing better would be if Jeffrey Dean Morgan would play the villain. The game has a very bizarre story but it interesting all the same. Each climb each fall, each scatter of your belongings can be felt as it seems to be a mountainous climb through the game. But again with a special treat each time you complete a portion. I read so many times BORING if you find creeping through vast open world wondering when your BB is going to pop up and alert you to stop breathing from a nearby BT or struggling to inch up a treacherous and tall terrain fearing you may have stacked too much on your back to make this climb to get to the next part of the well thought out story boring, then to each his/her own. But I was on the edge of my seat trying to make it a short distance to connect another city. PS were more than Amazon delivery personnel. I have to say people are maybe not giving this enough time to develop or not understanding the story line to give some of the reviews I have been reading. I do think many true Kojima fans and metal gear fans will thoroughly enjoy this game. I wish I would see more people speak up and defend his hard work. I love the game and knew going in it would be no Red Dead 2 but its nearly equally interesting only the gameplay is more limited but not much. There is still plenty to do. People are willing to guide a snake around a screen and make the snake bigger as well as other top mobile games like flappy bird come on. This is true gaming entertainment. Give it a go, keep an open mind sit back and enjoy the ride.… Expand

    It’s a slow burn game, and it’s different from anything seen before. Sometime I hate this game but then it gives me something super satisfying to make me forgive it. I don’t know what I expected, but this certainly wasn’t it.. but I am enjoying it?

    This is one of the most overrated pieces of entertainment ever released. The game is a tedious, repetitive mess that offers no challenge whatsoever. All it asks from you as a player is your patience and time, lots of it. The world has little to no variety. But the most infuriating thing about the game is how incredibly amateurish it is in the way it tells its story.

    A great experience! Beautiful landscapes, amazing character design, the whole time you are on the edge of your seat or scratching your head at the obscurity that is death stranding. Would not however suggest this to someone who enjoys instant gratification in video games, tis a slow burn. Cannot wait to see what surprises this studio has next.

    Great game dont understand the hate, the social systems really interesting the cutscenes and graphics are incredible and the satisfaction of achievement you feel after a long journey is something few other games offer, plus every piece of equipment you unlock makes you think of a different way to play

The interesting thing is that who is really playing the game, is loving the game that tells a story similar to Post Apocalypse where you are lost in nothing and have to find all the resources and develop in the campaign by uniting things and people! Something very different from what they are doing here!     In that, Death Stranding is brilliant. All that value built up from game mechanics working towards a concept catalyses the story: rebuild America together.

    The fun comes from the ability to immerse yourself in the game, and invest yourself in the story. If the player is superficial in their approach, they won't enjoy the walking.

    And that is fine. Actually, it's great. I think it's bad to gaming, as a whole, to try and have games be for everyone.

    It's fine if a AAA game pleases some people enough that they'll give it a 9. For the ones that gave it a 1, get a refund—and find another game to play. You don't have to like Death Stranding.    … Expand

    Hideo Kojima’s best work yet. The story and characters are super weird and intriguing. The world is incredible. The messages and themes to pick apart are amazing and the cool game systems all work together to form one of the most unique, interesting, and fun experiences I’ve ever seen.

Not least because the gameplay requires us to re-wire our ingrained auto-pilot brains but also due to the long periods of solitary walking where one may get lost in their own thoughts in a manner that is relaxed by a beautiful environment accompanied by a low-toned calming sound track. I’d almost say its meditation specifically designed for the kind of mind that produces Gamers.

    Matters of taste aside, viewing this game does nothing towards the experience. It must be played.
    Storywise, I can’t say to much as I’m only around 5hrs in but I have a feeling that the message is going to be less about “reconnecting America” and more about “reconnecting to ourselves”. It’s peak Kojima (which is perfect Kojima imo) – full of exposition and subtext.
    Technically, the game is as AAA as they come. Voice acting, animation, level design, sound design and graphics are all of the highest quality.

    Overall: I’d say Death Stranding – like MGS 1 to 4 – is massively ahead of it’s time. I’m gonna say that not only is it likely to be my game of the year but also enter my top ten of all time.    … Expand

    This game is unbelievably good! I was sure I was not gonna like it and I decided not to buy it but I ended up getting it as a present. I was hooked minutes into the game. Great graphics, amazing story, riveting gameplay. There's something magical here for the ones with an open mind to what games can do besides the tried and true. Certainly on my top five of all times.

    Best game of the year so far for me. Beautiful world, sometimes calm and peaceful gameplay, other times frightening and terrifying. Soundtrack is amazing. A piece of modern art, only a few can truly understand and feel what kojima wants to transmit with this genious game.

    About 15 hours deep, and i’ve gotta say i’ve loved it from the start. I was expecting it to be so boring from the reviews and I haven’t found it to be so at all. I enjoy the building aspect and whenever i see a camp of mules i’ll usually take them down, or if i want some extra action i’ll let the BTs sweep me away (I won’t say what happens to avoid any small spoilers). Remember how parents told us to be nice and care for each other ? I completed story mission 2 but I ran back for the new players. To leave a message, to leave a ladder for the others. To leave a sign I have been here. It makes you do that without hesitation. The Story is important but the game gives you the feeling of being alone, that's why you turn back instead of going on. You want to help others. Kojima calls back out to humanity. Care for each other. Help each other. I never felt something like that, in Nier Automata but who really played the Original Nier? Nier Automata was a blast afterwards, it made its impact afterwards. It's like Shenmue, Nier, Shenmue, the Game shows you you are alone and you do everything to help each other.     Amazing game that takes its time. I'm about 5 hours in and loving every part of it. The only complaint I have is losing balance is a pain. The graphics are top notch.

You strap cargo (poorly) and deliver packages from one point to another trying not to fall. After delivering your packages (again) you are graded for it without much of an explanation of what my grade means. There is a chart, but what the hell am I doing other than not falling down to increase it. Then there is the main plot mechanism. We have to deliver these keys from site to site to reunite America otherwise the world is destroyed. The kicker? Your sister that look like your mother that died, is being held hostage on the west coast, by a rouge city as insurance so that Daryl and the gang can’t bring this city into the new America. Yet this city is graciously allowing Daryl’s captive sister to use their equipment so that she can project herself. Project herself to Daryl and the new America to rule, all the while by scheming to overthrow that rouge city and bring his sister back. I’m only an hour and a half into the game. This game is **** But I’m going to finish it and then write a novelization of the plot.… Expand

    Fantastic game, well worth the money, Kojimas game are not for everyone but they are for me. Loved all his games prior, with Death Stranding it’s about connection, and this PS4 console exclusive is not to be missed.

Its no Metal Gear Solid but there have been many times that what you did in that game can be used to help you in this game. I looking forward to seeing how the game ends.     It is a shame that Kojima made a playable movie with his ego so goddamn far up his ass that he forgot to put a GAME in it. Crackdown 3 has a bad story and bad graphics and is STILL A FAR BETTER GAME to spend your hours on it than this. Konami was right

In many respects Death Stranding is just that, a game where you are always delivering some sort of cargo all the while connecting the remaining cities of Americas.

    I'll be blunt here. What drove me in this game was the intrigue the world had, who was Sam? What where those creatures (BTs), What was the Death Stranding? Unfortunately the writing for the game feels very one note, it makes it hard to invest yourself into the story, into Sam. This game requires the player to set goals intrinsically because there is a strange lack of satisfaction in discovering the answer to these question, so much so that it left me numb within the first 4 hours. While many praise the story for its "Kojima" nature, I can't in good faith say it develops in any satisfying way, especially since the colorful cast doesn't fix what are some of the most grueling exposition dumps.

    I went for hours trying to justify the needlessly tedious game play with occasional the glimmers of joy that occurred when just experience the expansive world and the open ended nature of the actual music. It's those moments that click; when the music starts playing and you are having a nice stride to your next objective that I found the most appealing, but they in no way justify the experience as a whole.

    I'd hate to call this a walking simulator, specifically because it does do so much more. Wherein most walking simulators have almost no gameplay, this at least has some. Though it’s not without its flaws, the game sets out a very repetitive loop for its gameplay, not an all too uncommon practice, but oddly enough it fails because of its attempts at complexity. Here’s my best comparison, No Mans Sky. Hear me out. No Mans Sky had a repetitive loop that resulted in many people disliking it, but those who stuck around loved the mindless grind to it, something to listen a podcast to. The problem with Death Stranding is it complicates what should be a relaxing grind to one where it demands your attention for every menial task. It doesn’t give you too much time to just enjoy the scenery and make your slow journey across the nation relaxing, it demands your attention at every moment, controlling the trigger paddles and keeping track of storms. It’s a line to straddle carefully and I feel the game fails at it. There's no joy in overcoming these obstacles impeding on the "zen" like nature of the game, and so it just ends up feeling like literal work.

    The graphical beauty, the expertly crafted sound design, it's all gone to waste on a game intent on making you relate to Sam's miserable journey by actually part taking in an arguably miserable game. The only thing I can genuinely commend the game on is that the soundtrack for the game was one that was well done and the game featured some nice shots in the cutscenes, But those don't save a game where the story is an arguable mess and the game play is a lesson in tedium.

    TL;DR

    I do not recommend this title, even if you liked games like RDR2 and Euro Truck Simulator, unless you are willing to put up with a un-involved story and tiring game play mechanics.

    This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

    Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
