    Very large spaces that are perceived differently than in other games. Amazing mechanics that deepen the gaming experience. Very interesting story and staging in cut scenes. Beautiful graphics and excellent optimization.

If you don't need an ounce of Ritalin for simple tasks like reading a book or watching a slow paced Kubrick movie then you will probably love this game. If you need something to explode every five seconds go see an old Transformers movie this is probably not for you. If you actually play this game and instead aren't just jumping on the review dog-pile you will find it is much more than just a "walking simulator" or delivering packages. In Skyrim you very often are just walking between two places however things happen on the journey to interrupt you just like in this game. Traversal itself is a mechanic with the player having to navigate the environments as one in the real world at times (one cannot just hold the left stick and fall asleep like literally any other game). The player must balance, avoid slipping and running into rocks that would have Sam slip and tumble. This sounds like a pain while it's only annoying enough to remind you on spare occasions to watch where you are walking or face a fall. While minimalist in design there are hazards that must be avoided and there is great tension between balancing the player's load out and weight against the need for maneuverability that many encounters require. The player can even fight back against enemies and develop new tools to make their encounters easier while giving the player more choices in how they want to travel the world. The balance of power however is almost always stacked against the player making sure that every encounter is somewhat interesting even if bosses are a little easy. It is a metaphorical and literal balancing act on what tools to bring (with their weight) and all the goods that need delivered. What is revolutionary is that other players structures will pop up in the world providing must needed respite when one needs a quick escape or rest. The world at first starts empty and feel post apocalyptic while later on as more multiplayer structures are raised it becomes alive and one truly feels like a cog in a large machine bringing people back together. The visuals are superb as well as the music and acting with some valid criticism being that of the writing and some particular actors. Some of it is pretty "Kojima'ey" and pretty out there and silly but unless you are one of those people who just blatantly hate Hideo despite never playing one of his games than you will more than likely see past it as it is very much in background lore like the interviews you read in the menu. At worst the dialogue will give you a campy chuckle (or a cringe) which will gave way to the almost meditative act of delivering packages, saving items from dangerous locations and dropped by other players, building roads, bridges and highways and other structures to help your fellow players out as well as fending off crazy ghosts and weird package obsessed weirdos.… Expand

    This game is basicly just an walking simulator, maybe its weird but even fallout 76 is better then this. Worst game of this year so far, oh its an Hideo kojima game? Man.. even Metal gear survive is better!

    If you enjoy a calmer game with a greater focus on history and its mechanics, highly recommended kojima really did something unique. despite being slow and kind of silly at first glance, this game ends up hooking you lol.

    O Jogo é chato monótono só andar pra um lado e para o outro quase não tem ação e as cutscenes são excessivamente longas que dão até sono, o único ponto positivo é que dá pra pular elas. Isso é uma "Obra de Arte" só na cabeça do Kojima mesmo.

    O jogo é realmente ÚNICO, te entrega várias emoções diferentes, porém o foco dele que seria entregar variados suprimentos não me agrada muito, não que seja ruim, mas se fosse um jogo de sobrevivência (e somente isso) eu gostaria mais.

    The game robbed you of nothing, it never lied to you nor deceived you - It always showed you what it was: A slow-paced narrative driven game that's focused on making deliveries, featuring a vast amount of rich, complex traversal and item management mechanics, and not your mass fodder "pew pew" and "bam bam". And in my opinion, after playing quite a chunk of it already, just those traversal mechanics are deeper than most of today's games full gameplay mechanics, especially in the AAA segment.

    Even if you don't have as broad a gaming horizon yet and still don't have enough of today's mainstream games - Why not just be happy for the game and the people that like it, while continuing to play the stuff that YOU like instead of downright sh*tting on and making fun of something you don't find interesting (and don't even fully sem to understand because you haven't played it, judging by most of the "reviews" I see on here).    … Expand

    I had high hopes for this game. A bit outside the norm but I liked the idea of it. I spent over 12 hours straight really trying to get into the story which doesn’t come right out and present itself but I hate to say that it bored me to death. I even came to grips with the constant cut scenes for every little action but it turned into a slow version of Fallout without the the combat.I had high hopes for this game. Multiple missions and submissions with little reward (unless you get off on the the other players giving you “Likes” for putting up a ladder or sign. Too much inventory stuff going on, too much mandatory resting at checkpoints...and what few “battles” occurred during those 12 hours they would be easy for my 97 year old grandmother with severe carpal tunnel and arthritis. Actually between the baby and the napping she would have probably enjoyed it. That was a little mean. The graphics are pretty good as they should be. There are some kind of neat new gadgets that I’ve not seen in a game before...it’s just crazy slow. I would sometimes purposefully wait in the rain for the spirits too try and screw up my day just to get a bit of adrenaline going. Long story short I absolutely DO NOT RECOMMEND to pay full price or more for this game or it’s Deluxe Addition. Wait until It’s on sale somewhere for $25. That way if you decide after a half a day that you’re never gonna play again you don’t have $75 and 100Gigs invested and being deleted to “Your Library”. You were still great in Boondock Saints though dude!… Expand

    Please do not listen to these Kojima fanboys. This game is a walking simulator at best. The routes are tedious, gameplay is repetitive, bosses are boring. This game’s trailers were so mysterious/edgy with little to no gameplay being shown... yeah there’s a reason for that. Reason being the gameplay is BORING. Do not force yourself to play this game out of some blind loyalty like I did.

    Iv been playing for at least 10 hours and it's addictive as hell, story wise may be turn off for players but as for me, it's outstanding and while I understand people keep mentioning its a walking simulator, its more than that

    A single finished game, without micro-payments, without bugs and glitches at the start, which eats somehow to diversify the genre, not just to get in your pocket selling the same thing in 100000 times.

    Fantastic world and music can't cover the lacking of gameplay. You just move back and forth between different places. The idea of using tool to help you deliver the goods looks interesting at the first 3 hours, but this system lacks of depth, you just repeat the boring errand over and over again...that;s not a right way to do a "immersive game".

    It's such a disappointment. After Kojima released games such as the Metal Gear franchise, this is a new low for him. The game looks absolutely beautiful, but the story is uninteresting, gameplay is slow, boring, repetitive, and the times you do run into action it feels cluncky. You'll spend hours and hours walking around until you finally have to fight anyone or anything and when you do,It's such a disappointment. After Kojima released games such as the Metal Gear franchise, this is a new low for him.     I mentioned in another review on google the tedious walking mechanics, lucky some of that gets fixed later on in the game + you get vehicles wich made the game fun from the unbearable long trips on foot. (WICH WOULD OF BEEN ALLRIGHT if not for this SWAY LEFT AND RIGHT mechanic, sorry i cant really get behind it, its TO OFTEN).

    But the game really shines at this asynchronous multiplayer, building the world for others and them for you. Seeing roads/bridges/ ladders when i revisit areea, that were previously empty. It's exciting.
    THere are a few issues about this mechanic however. (UNLESS I am missing some information on how it all works)
    I feel like the people who will get the most out of it are the folk playing in the first few weeks, the ones creating the world. After most usefull paths are built. new guys won't have what to really build or noone will be left in the game to reap their 'like' rewards.
    Tho i think i remember someone saying they decay with time? I hope that's true, otherwise this would be a problem.

    But it's also a solution for the guys having a hard time with it, the PIONEERS will build the path so that new players can have a way easyer time trecking the world.
    If i would score this game for more categories, it'd be as such.
    Graphics 9/10
    Gameplay mechanics: 7/10
    Content/stuff to do:8/10
    Story: 8/10 average sci-fi story, idk why people moan its bad, every game out there is the same, i think they just wanted more. but he is good at keeping some mystery
    Music: 10/10
    A-multiplayer feature: 9/10

    Now i will also score the game as it develops:
    Intro 9/10 (3-4h in)
    Post-Intro 6/10 (8h in)
    Mid-Game: 9/10 unlocking bikes/new areeas and a lot of multiplayer features. Plus more enemies and stuff to do while treking so its not as lonely and empty.
    Late mid game: 20h+ in, 8/10 to much drawn out questing that could of been cut shorter. Think is u get slightly addicted to doing missions, but also that ends up making the game feel drawn out, so at this point i just went for main missions only. (kinda like with MGS5's side ops that got eh after a while)
    Late game: 9/10

    Overall not bad, but not the masterpiece people claim it to be.
    But it is different and the ideea in it is not bad, maybe not done completely right. If some other company picked this ideea up/engine they could make some really cool stuff. This game is like a 'skeleton'.
    I WISH THEY WOULD OPEN IT TO MODDING COMMUNITY ON PC ! HI *waves* we can make wonders.

    Metacritic needs to do something about review bombers. They have no life so go out of their way to try to upset others.

    You can tell who here has played the game for more than 1 hour and who hasn't (if at all). Not everyone will like this game for sure, but it's not a 0 and there's actually a lot of fun to be had with the game.

    You'd know if you actually played it.

    Boring, repetitive, good but long and annoying cut scenes. It would be more interesting seeing a movie of it because its not exactly a game. Technically a masterpiece, nice music but in the end of the day, you buy a game to have fun. DS doesn't respect player's time and effort. Bad inventory, dead and empty world. If it wasn't a Kojima Game, the score would be way lower.

    Not for everybody, clearly. If your favorite game is Call of Duty or Madden, it's best to stay away from this one. But it is truly a masterpiece to me though.

    Patience! So many bad reviews come from players who only have play the game 30 mins. Beautiful and fresh! It’s unique, and the world Hideo Kajima has created is breath taking. It’s a suspenseful, exciting, atmospheric adventure! And in like most games. You walk.

Now, I'm not saying I trust IGN one bit, but the fact that they were brutally honest about how the game plays was shocking. Once I had a chance to actually see what Jim Sterling had to say it was all over, this whole project was to make a 70+ hour movie and Kojima trolled us all on it. II went from hyped about Kojima's new game to complete abandonment after what IGN had to report on it. Now, I'm not saying I trust IGN one bit, but the fact that they were brutally honest about how the game plays was shocking. Once I had a chance to actually see what Jim Sterling had to say it was all over, this whole project was to make a 70+ hour movie and Kojima trolled us all on it. I had a collector's edition waiting for me at GameStop that I kindly waved goodbye to, getting a refund. I'm sure there is an audience for this game, I'm just not part of that audience. Time to look forward to some other games that are being released.… Expand

    Amazing fun. Best game I’ve played this year. Gives you an indescribable feeling of satisfaction when someone completes a structure you started building when you are off on a mission somewhere else. The same goes for when you build a bridge and come back later to find over 4000 likes

    The entire game is built on the structure of a fallout 4 side quest..fetch questing the entire game. Just beat the game( forced myself through to    A.     I've never touched a Kojima game before this and I was skeptical going into the game myself. I decide to give it a fair shot and I've come out absolutely adoring it; the story is intruiging and the world building is phenomenal.

    The gameplay won't be for everyone, but I don't think it ever aimed to be. I've personally had a blast - driving down a road constructed by a bunch of strangers    I've never touched a Kojima game before this and I was skeptical going into the game myself. I decide to give it a fair shot and I've come out absolutely adoring it; the story is intruiging and the world building is phenomenal.

    It’s a fantastic game. Gameplay mechanics are second to none and has an amazing story. If you’re looking for a an all out action game this isn’t it, it’s slow but rewarding to play and is for the more mature gamer. A must have for anyone who likes open world exploration with more emphasis on traversal than combat.

    I would think this is a 9/10 piece. But I love this game so much that when I see some reviews giving 0/10 because of not fully understand the mechanism of the game, I decide to change the score to 10/10. It would just be too pity if this unique game is underrated because of such prejudice review.     Death Stranding é um jogo complexo, com um enredo único. E direi o que todos dizem: Ele não é um jogo pra todos. Um fã de FIFA ou Call of Duty não vai gostar desse jogo. Death Stranding te desafia, tem uma duração exacerbadamente longa. Mas ainda sim, é um dos melhores jogos da geração e merece todo reconhecimento possível. Hideo Kojima acertou mais uma vez.

    I never thought the game was going to amount to much until now. The quality is unreal, the story keeps pulling at you as if you're getting tangled in a web, the vast world is just a massive breath taking adventure, and the mechanic's of the game are quite different to what you would see in most games to date.     Death Stranding is a very strange game. I’m fascinated by it but I’m not at all sure that I actually like playing it. It’s not just that it isn’t fun. It often feels like a chore, like the game is doing its level best to keep you from having a good time.

    damn amazing game and GOTY candidate for sure. This is so different and better compare to generic western ctrl+c and ctrl+v production filled with bugs and greedy microtransactions. This is well crafted masterpiece with amazing slow paced clever story, perfect graphic, great gameplay (its more game than your generic shooter like doom tho because death stranding actually has deep anddamn amazing game and GOTY candidate for sure. This is so different and better compare to generic western ctrl+c and ctrl+v production filled with bugs and greedy microtransactions. This is well crafted masterpiece with amazing slow paced clever story, perfect graphic, great gameplay (its more game than your generic shooter like doom tho because death stranding actually has deep and amazing gameplay mechanics), super cast etc.
    I LOVE IT so far after 20 hours in game (yes unlike local review bomber mob trolls iam actually playing the game). Obviously its not for people who want simple pew pew fun and its not for PC-policy tool who hating kojima because of so called "sexism" in his games. But if you want more from game than just dull pew pew and generic western theme then go for it. Its amazing. And for the normies who hating it you can go back to your generic battleroyals and ubisoft games, no need to have tantrum because of death stranding and other deep complex games...    … Expand

    I didn’t like first half of the game but second half of this game was great. Great story and graphs. Who votes 0 (they probably didn’t even play the game) if you have this game just continue for the story you’ll love that game in my opinion.

    Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it.     This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

    Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
