    Death Stranding reinvents how video game design can work. It takes you through an experience you didn’t expect, doesn’t hold back with its design intentions and execution, and takes the gamer through a journey like no other. This is a masterpiece that only Kojima could pull off.

    The game contains extremely hard but simple gameplay and very strong philosophy in the same time.The game gives you time in your travels to think. It's like when you stop reading a book for a moment to think harder about it's main point, but it gives you some simple and physically hard gameplay which is not interrupting your thinking process. Not for everybody. For me - excellent.

    Very large spaces that are perceived differently than in other games. Amazing mechanics that deepen the gaming experience. Very interesting story and staging in cut scenes. Beautiful graphics and excellent optimization.

    Iv been playing for at least 10 hours and it's addictive as hell, story wise may be turn off for players but as for me, it's outstanding and while I understand people keep mentioning its a walking simulator, its more than that

    This game is a masterpiece from a mastermind if you want to play a game that is no like other games this is the game you need to try well narrated skillfully developed awesome graphics a story that can only be written by hideo kojima no one else this game is a true masterpiece

    After 30 hours of play, it has become clear what Death Stranding wants to be exactly. It's a logistics simulator, plain and simple. But instead of being completely rooted in reality like say, the Euro Truck series, it includes Sci-fi elements to keep players on their toes throughout.

    It’s the most relaxing video game that I’ve ever played. Reminds me of riding my horse around the map in rdr2. I love it, but the whole game is walking around a beautiful map so it might not be for everyone

    I would give it a 8.5. I think there will be a sample bias to the earlier reviews because there's a very high concentration of gamers who did not play pass chapter 2, which is a relatively slow-paced chapter. After that, there's an huge expansion to what you can do, and simple things become less of a grind. (to be clear, I didn't hate the experience in Chapter 2, I thought it was alrightI would give it a 8.5. I think there will be a sample bias to the earlier reviews because there's a very high concentration of gamers who did not play pass chapter 2, which is a relatively slow-paced chapter. After that, there's an huge expansion to what you can do, and simple things become less of a grind. (to be clear, I didn't hate the experience in Chapter 2, I thought it was alright but is objectively a bit slower than the later chapters.)

    If one breaks done the game by components, then yes, objectively the act of delivering & building things slowly is not as action-filled or super fun compared to, say, MGSV, but as a whole I find it quite captivating. Everyday I wake up wanting to play more of it.

    Two minor things that I think could be improved:
    1. Short cut animations (e.g. mail delivery, drink beverage, shower) require a bit more clicks than necessary to skip. Sometimes they made it so that you have to skip 2-3 short animations for one action. I wish it would be more streamlined

    2. stealth options could be a bit better. I get it, creating a diversified combat system would distract from the main gist of the game. But still, I wish there could be 2-3 more options to take down mules out of stealth, and a slightly smoother action sequence would be nice.    … Expand

    This game requires a bit of patience as it can be quite a long game, but if you are interested in the story and the world then it can make for a great time. Yes it can be slow, and you are walking for a majority of the game, but the interactions with the community playing the game, and the completely unique game mechanics have me really enjoying the game.

    If your not enjoying the game at the beggining dont worry, becasue as you progress in the game a LOT of new items, weapons, and tools are unlocked allowing you to handle the terrain, the BT's, and the raiders in a variety of ways.

    I do understand the complaints and i totally understand why you might not like this game, but for me its a new and fresh experience and im loving it so far.

    If your not sold on the game, or a fan of Kojima, then I think you should wait for a sale and pick it up cheap in a few months.

    A proposta de Hideo Kojima em Death Stranding funciona muito bem q é a conexão e a reconstrução do mundo através de Sam Bridges, tem uma proposta e um enredo muito bem construído e definido, gráficos exuberantes, ótima jogabilidade e um bom game play. Enfim o jogo é muito bom, desafiante e prazeroso de se jogar.

    I got started a few days late because I was expecting something similar to the MGS series. But the user reviews deflated my balloon. But, I was bored last night and thought I'd give it a go. Maybe buy it in conjunction with Modern Warefare. When/if you get bored, flip over to that... Death Stranding will start to whisper, "come baaaaack." It really is a magnetic game. It's like a slow starting book, but then you'll blink and be hooked.

    Look at it this way, instead of approaching this as "playing a video game," approach it like you are sitting down to watch a Netflix series (a trippy one, like "Dark"), that you get to interact with. I've read people say the story sucks. While there are some premises to the story that are silly, overall, I'm sucked in.

    I CAN'T believe how interesting the game mechanics are. On paper, I thought I'd go nuts. After getting past the learning curve, I really got into it. Do your self a favor and don't pass judgement on this game until you are a couple hours past CHAPTER 3. Read up online on tactics to blow through the first 3 chapters ASAP, and then it really picks up.

    Because of the reviews, by the time I started, I went in with low expectations, so I'm sure that only helped me. Come to find out, it's not as bad as some peeps are making it out to be. It truly is unlike anything out there, but on the flip side, it truly isn't for everybody.    … Expand

    This game is another true hideo kojima masterpiece.

    the gameplay is fresh and new the concepts or deep the story is someone out there but still told in great hideo kojima fashion.

    The graphics are phenomenal especially for PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro.

    If you're a fan of hideo kojima's games and you're a fan of open world nuances this games.

    I'm one of the bunch in love with the game, after 50 hours played. Not a game for everyone, sure, but the game is unique in several aspects. One of the most important for me: it is the closest thing I've seen to a hiking game. Before starting a route, you need to plan ahead on certain supplies, the terrain, weather forecast.. And while on the route, you'll need certain navigational skillsI'm one of the bunch in love with the game, after 50 hours played. Not a game for everyone, sure, but the game is unique in several aspects. One of the most important for me: it is the closest thing I've seen to a hiking game. Before starting a route, you need to plan ahead on certain supplies, the terrain, weather forecast.. And while on the route, you'll need certain navigational skills to be able to read what's the best possible route across a mountain or to cross a river or canyon. Then, you can use ladders and ropes to help you along the way, and will obviously need to tread carefully when walking or scrambling.
    But the "hiking" part is just a fraction of what it has to offer. You may choose to rely more heavily on vehicles (bikes and trucks), which will make things more direct but equally crafty. Planning efficient routes of delivery is equally important, and it can be so rewarding that you might be willingly spending time picking up other's lost cargo to finish their deliveries. Yes, some of us are doing that for fun, because it can be fun! It is very rewarding to offload a truck with 700kg of cargo on destination.
    And the story, sure, it is very intriguing and with a deep lore. But for me it's not the main attraction of this game, not even close. For me it is the adventure in the rough nature, where you need to survive and find your path across all kind of natural (and unnatural) dangers, and to do so, the game offers you a very realistic physic system and a full set of gadgets and tricks to overcome the different challenges.
    If you want simple, direct to the point games, where you don't need to be meticulous, yeah skip this one!    … Expand

    A must play for anyone who has a PS4. Kojima delivers an amazing narrative with an unique gameplay. The game is incredibly well made and attentive to details. I have never seen a game that puts that much attention to detail in every single aspect of the game. In my opinion, the best game Kojima has made

    I think im getting to the point to where i feel like anyone who truly enjoys gaming should love this game. the metacritic downvote machine has got to be Konami bots or something. The games fantastic. It's an entirely new concept. And to say "its the Gran Turismo of walking simulators" is akin to saying any FPS is "the Gran Turismo of wack-a-mole"

    after putting almost 20 hours into this thing, still on chapter 2, (the very beginning of the game basically) I can say with 100% faith that a very large majority of people hating on it havnt played it much, if at all.

    "interactive movie" ha.. not even close.. you obviously have NOT played the game. "movie" has been maybe, if even, 5% of my game time, again, on chp 2. Any repetitive cutscene can be sklipped instantly.

    "boring" im assuming you think using an anolog stick while spamming R2 or Left Mouse to click on pixels for hours is intriguing game design...

    any complaint about the story/gameplay.. go back to Mr Man Mc Muscles, kill everyone and everything for the 100th time with "cool and crazy action set pieces," get your bad guy. your INTENSE Hollywood ending.. and move on to the next game just like it.

    Hell, even MGS fanbois... go back to your tranq gun, derp. best gameplay ever... -_-

    yes there is more to MGS than just tranqing everything in site.. but not really. Its all optional/have fun with it kinda stuff for the most part. All the crazy stuff you can do in DS is pretty much 100% necessity.. and honestly that's one of the coolest things about this game. You really do HAVE to take advantage of your options if you want to make it anywhere in the game.    … Expand

    Let’s be fair, most AAA's released today are mindless affairs. Go here, shoot that. Put ball in net. Kill everyone to win - that's no bad thing! After a hard day's life, sometimes you just need to switch off from the ceaseless chatter that has built up from the day's works and worries.
    Death Stranding bucks these trends in every way. Not least because the gameplay requires us to re-wire our ingrained auto-pilot brains but also due to the long periods of solitary walking where one may get lost in their own thoughts in a manner that is relaxed by a beautiful environment accompanied by a low-toned calming sound track. I’d almost say its meditation specifically designed for the kind of mind that produces Gamers.

    Matters of taste aside, viewing this game does nothing towards the experience. It must be played.
    Storywise, I can’t say to much as I’m only around 5hrs in but I have a feeling that the message is going to be less about “reconnecting America” and more about “reconnecting to ourselves”. It’s peak Kojima (which is perfect Kojima imo) – full of exposition and subtext.
    Technically, the game is as AAA as they come. Voice acting, animation, level design, sound design and graphics are all of the highest quality.

    Overall: I’d say Death Stranding – like MGS 1 to 4 – is massively ahead of it’s time. I’m gonna say that not only is it likely to be my game of the year but also enter my top ten of all time.    … Expand

    Outstanding masterpiece. Don’t listen to haters, that don’t even play the game. It’s 40-60 hours long, but they already screams that it’s sucks in first 12 hours after release. Just play it.

    Half the people here don't understand this game, it's clear Metacritic is just Call of Duty-loving fanboys who don't appreciate something that breaks the mold. A stellar experience, unlike anything I've ever played. Incredible music, interesting gameplay and breathtaking story. MUST PLAY!

    Now I understand why people are so fond of Kojima. I've never played anything like this in my life and I've been gaming since the early 90's. Definitely my game of the year, nothing comes close!

    deixo claro q ñ joguei o jogo AINDA - só quero provar q qualquer pessoa pode deixar sua avaliação sem ter jogado - pq o q mais vejo aq são fanboys de xbox avaliando o jogo com nota zero - espero q o metacritic mude isso e deixe apenas quem jogou de fato avaliar - tá uma bagunça isso aq.

    Отличный сюжет, куча игровых механик, очень крутые идеи с мультиплеером. Геймплей медитативный, но в трейлерах все было показано. По мне так игра года.

    The story is interesting and engaging, the gameplay is fun and relaxing, I really enjoyed the experience and was really excited to see each turn the story provided. It was great, especially the hades segments.

    This game truly have it's problems, like some bugged camera takes on rocky ground, sometimes the physics bugs, etc. but what pleases me is way more memorable and marcant, the soundtrack is a masterpiece, the voice act is awesome, the fight choreography is great, the scenarios are beautiful and it have great textures and character models, and the most important for me, the story is anThis game truly have it's problems, like some bugged camera takes on rocky ground, sometimes the physics bugs, etc. but what pleases me is way more memorable and marcant, the soundtrack is a masterpiece, the voice act is awesome, the fight choreography is great, the scenarios are beautiful and it have great textures and character models, and the most important for me, the story is an absolute MASTERPIECE, my favorite in all games, it made me feel emotional, sad, happy, surprised, and I cried for the first time in a game, and I cried A LOT, I liked the gameplay, the boss fights are cool and well-designed, the animation and physics are great(but sometimes a little buggy), I don't recommend it for people who like fast and frenetic games, for people to prefer to be having fun than being engaged, the game is very slow-paced and the narrative is long, the first chapters will bother many people and probably make them give up on the game, but for me this game will truly mark my life and it's my top 3 game, if you like a good story, soundtrack, and don't mind a slow pace, buy it, you'll like it for certain, I finished it 2 days ago and I just can't stop thinking about it and hearing the soundtrack… Expand

    Играю третьи сутки, поставил 9 баллов. Да, во многих местах игра просто предлагает ходить туда - сюда и носить по чемодану туда - обратно по одному и тому же маршруту. Я играл и с включенным интернетом и без него. Но мне нравится это - во первых можно и не делать лишних движений если не хочется - просто идти по сюжету. Во вторых походы очень преображаются со строительством дорог,Играю третьи сутки, поставил 9 баллов. Да, во многих местах игра просто предлагает ходить туда - сюда и носить по чемодану туда - обратно по одному и тому же маршруту. Я играл и с включенным интернетом и без него. Но мне нравится это - во первых можно и не делать лишних движений если не хочется - просто идти по сюжету. Во вторых походы очень преображаются со строительством дорог, получением экзоскелета и транспорта. В третьих лично мне нравится там ходить!!! За это я убрал полбалла. И еще полбалла я убрал за то, что зоны муллов и зоны тварей имеют стационарное состояние. Было бы гораздо круче если бы на карте места их расположения появлялись стихийно и непредсказуемо. Особенно зоны дождей с тварями. Я наиграл только 15 часов +- и мне очень понравилась игра. Я полностью уверен, что пройдя её всю - поставил бы 10 баллов! И не понимаю тех, кто ставил 4 или 5. Про 0 , 1, 2 я вообще молчу. Что это? Чем можно обосновать 0 , 1 или 2 бала за такую игру? Пока за 15 часов я понял что это не шедевр, но что вообще шедевр? Это по меньшей мере отлично сделанная и добротная игра, по меньшей мере. Для меня же это глоток свежего воздуха в индустрии, помешанной на получении денег от очередных частей очередных штампованных игр. Она как минимум необычна и свежа, она интригует и внушает местами какое то мистическое, внутреннее переживание, которое трудно объяснить. 9 из 10 Хидео, после прохождения я бы поставил все 10, я уверен в этом.     A slow paced epic! I loved this game from begging to middle to end, although the first hours are pretty slow, whenever it picks up it's pace it gets incredibly interesting and addicting. And the story... Oh God did I cried.

Ни в одной!), хорошая постановка кат-сцен и любопытный сюжет (довольно интригующий, я уже наиграла часов десять, разобралась со всеми терминами, как и что там происходит, но черт возьми ничего не понятно, обычно в играх сначала объясняют в самом начале от чего произошла катастрофа и бросают игрока все исправлять, в этой же похоже все наоборот, сначала исправь, а потом суть катастрофы и объяснят, но мне это интересно! Феномен просто!). В общем, если вы любитель медленного медитативного геймплея, довольно однообразного, но под хорошую музыку, с запутанным сюжетом, вам нравится помогать людям в онлайне, и видеть результаты труда других людей, которые 100% Вам помогут, то вполне вероятно эта игра Вам понравится.     I don't know if it's the amazing graphics or the long journeys through man and ghost-infested lands, but this game "keeps dragging me back in." I've started over already because I feel like I could do better at certain parts and just enjoy the game all over again. This game definitely will be judged by you enjoying what the game has to offer.     I’m really enjoying this new experience! This is the first time where The transversals of the game are not a chore but an experience by itself! Walking simulator? Absolutely and a good one at it. Perfect? No, but the fact that I’m immersed into pushing the left stick with a purpose instead of just pushing it to go forward It’s a really good and a mindful experience!     This is certainly not a perfect game and it has a lot of ups and downs but I think KojiPro delivered what they've advertised. The story is wonderful, the game mechanics feel really good, practically free of bugs, and, overall, the game is fun to play.

    If you are, well you are in luck! It's a unique take on a post-apocalyptic scenario that most in the genre is usually either filled with zombies in an urban environment or a Mad Max type of hellscape world with marauders. This game is actually full of varying environments from moss covered mountains with rivers and streams to rocky desert environments (and this is just the two first zones). Flora and locations are very detailed and a few times I stopped and soaked in the scenery. Character models are amazing in terms of detail as well and definitely is pushing whatever version you have of the PS4 to the max! Only games in terms of graphics that rival this game on the PS4 is Detroit: Beyond Human. Voice overs are top notch, again on par with Detroit or close to any Naughty Dog game. Ambient sounds are well done such as thunder, rain, and rivers and over a long mission the game will throw a mellow indie song to go along with your adventure.

    Gameplay is unique or annoying depending on your prespective. You are essentially the Special Forces of package delivery, making treks over long distances and your packages take damage from falls, time-altering rain (yes that is a thing here), other humans who want your packages, while avoiding the occasional invisible ghost called a BT. To elaborate more on the falling part, you can trip on rocks, tip over if you are carrying too much weight, fall off cliffs...but you have a nice arsenal of handy equipment like ladders and rope to help you traverse these obstacles, with full blown bridges, truck, motorcycles, and user built roads later in the game.

    The multiplayer in this game is unique too as you don't play directly with anyone, and I'm not sure how many people are assigned to a zone/server with you (20-50 is my guess) but you can find other player's gear, vehicles, buildings and use it. For instance, you may be coming to a wide river and have no ladder to put horizontally across to ease the crossing but luckily another player thought of that and you can use theirs and distribute "likes" to the player for the ladder like you would a funny meme on Facebook (and that you should).

    Story is interesting IMO, but maybe too convoluted for some and the game doesn't go into detail about the who,what,when,where and how of some things until later in the game. Not going into the details of the story because it's all to some extent a spoiler. You play as Norman Reedus aka Sam and take items from point A to B is most simplistic summary I can give without giving anything away or straight confusing people with the actual details. Will just tell you this isn't your typically Call of Duty single player campaign of shoot bad guys, stop nuclear/biological/chemical weapon. Nothing wrong with those games ( I enjoyed the latest Modern Warfare campaign) but this game adds lots of unique ideas that I've never seen in other games, so most is going to be unfamiliar and hard to follow for some.

    All in all, really liked my time with the game thus far but as mentioned this is going to be a love or hate it type of game I think. People who enjoy walking sims will really like this because unlike most indie versions, this game has a lot going on in terms of finding things to do and exploring and really doesn't force you to continue the story or force you anywhere if you don't want to go there yet. I like that kind of independence in a game and think many others do too. Again, if this doesn't sound like your cup of tea but are somewhat intrigued, rent it. You will be able to tell in the first 5-6 hours if this is a game for you or not.    … Expand

    Everybody is **** on the gameplay, just because they think it's repetitive. But in what action game do you do anything different that's not repetitive? It's a stupid conclusion, and you shouldn't judge the game by watching gameplay footage.
    Gameplay: It is way deeper than what the game shows, most tricks you can find out by experimenting with it. Reconnecting with people is rewarding, you feel good about yourself when you see your ranking go up. The game has different mechanics for traversal / rest / helping other players. Traversal can be hard with the vehicles, you can get stuck on every little rock, so I prefered running to my destination. Combat with humans is fun, not that deep but combat is not the point of the game. BT's can be a pain in the ass, but when you get weapons later, you can easily get rid of them. Players will help with there buildings and ladders and bridges, and you can help others too. Your buildings will appear in other's game.
    Story: Without spoiling anything, this game will make you think about our future, the world, and its people. I completed the game in 36 hours, and I'm gonna continue it, because it is fun!

It's really a slow burn, I'm not even kojima fan boy and didn't really play metal gear beside tpp, the quality of animation is superb, envrioment is beautiful its like straight from a painting, if you enjoy a cool cinematic cut scene on the game with intresting story you will love this one, but the gameplay it self for some people might considered at boring or even people call it trash, yeah but try it, is a fresh new look for a game,… Expand

    Name one game in the past ten years that has gotten the attention of this many trolls. You can’t. I checked.
    It’s a wonderful game that challenges you every step of the way. After spending 200 hours with the game I’m still discovering new things and ways to explore. Don’t let all of these fake accounts and fake reviews detture you from experiencing this.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've spend now about 60 hours in this game. I get that people find it boring so it's really an acquired taste but I think it's excellent. I enjoy myself, building stuff, going through the story and taking in the atmosphere. I only wish sidequest were a bit more flesh out storywise; grinding for materials can be a bit boring but I need to complete these roads. Graphics are great, sound and gameplay also, I also like the story but i'm still on episode 7 so taking my time. One of the most special experiences of the last years (but not one of the best games... that one goes to god of war)… Expand

    Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it.     This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

    Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
