Long gone are the tension adding timers and terrifyingly intriguing Psychopaths. These are now "streamlined" into a linear endless experience and baddies called "maniacs". The maniacs have no backstory or reason to care who they are before you punch their tickets. I do have to admit that as a holiday game, there is some mindless fun to be had with Dead Rising 4. It would be more enjoyable if it weren't in the shadow of four far more captivating titles. A co-op campaign wouldn't have hurt the games chances either. If asked to sum this game up in one word it would be bland. Expand

There's a ton of potential here, and it's completely wasted by removing series tropes in favor of nonsensical zombie killing.

Easily the blandest game in the series, and no amount of costumes and post launch DLC will fix that. The game is fundamentally stunted due to poor response from controls, and a lack of things to do outside of the main missions, which are required to be done

The game is fundamentally stunted due to poor response from controls, and a lack of things to do outside of the main missions, which are required to be done before one can have full access to the map in the last couple of missions. When your open world game doesn't open up until chapter 4, and it only has 6 chapters, there is a problem.

A lazy, pathetic and sorry excuse for a Dead Rising game but decent in it's own ways as a game. I'm very surprised they didn't add campaign co-op with this second chance. It really shows just how much they listen to their fanbase. Add it back or it's 1/10 forever! This is definitely the worst Dead Rising game to date!

Dead Rising 4 is made by a studio that has no respect, care or interest in the original classic. It is a shameful entry, that doesn’t damn well deserve to stay in the Dead Rising universe. Where the original shined was in the little details, and the wacky tone of the whole thing. DR4 is basic, third-person zombie slaying that feels a lot like a re skin of DR3. I love the original, and to see the series getting butchered in this way is disgusting, and really makes you think what goes on at Capcom. Expand

One of those games that should have stayed on its original platform and not infect others.. Tried to sell it on my own but nobody contacted me.. Had to sell-off at my local game shop to at least get something out of the $40 I've wasted.. F**k this piece of sh!T!

Horrible excuse for a next generation entertainment. I haven't played Dead Rising since it came out on Xbox the first time and thought it had a lot of potential, here I am some odd years later going into Dead Rising 4 with an expectation for a fun game and see the next-gen improvements, but nope, barely anything has changed. Weak story line overall. They also got rid of the boss cutscene which usually builds up the intensity and the timer which gave it a sense of urgency, so all we're left with is something that feels like it could be done on a previous generation console. This game could've been fun if the developer would build up the story with references inspired by classic scenario zombie tropes like Zack Synder's Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later or so many other Zombie horror flicks, but no, the game story is so dull that I just ended up skipping through most of the cutscenes.

In conclusion I'd say don't get this game unless they do something to fix it, the only way that this could be a pretty fun game is if this was 2005, but sadly this is 2017 and there should be no room for games like this when you're paying 60$ for it and could get other games like GTAV, MGSV, The Last of Us, Uncharted 4, The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Etc in comparison for the same price.

As a long time fan of the Dead Rising series i really hate this game, they ruined a once great character and a once great setting. The game is shockingly linear, for what's supposed to be an open world.
Game is very Buggy. Had to reset checkpoint 3 times in first hour of game play due to Glitches.

    Tutorials are horribly lacking.
Good Survivors make same exact same sounds as Evil Survivors.
Why can Evil Survivors fight but Good ones can't. Doesn't make any sense.
You have a Digital Camera that only holds 50 pictures. So you have to waste time locking the pictures you like so you don't lose them when they could have just given you 300-500 or so picture slots, for quality of life.
The game looks good, but it feels like a bad BAD clone of Dead Rising not an Actual Dead Rising Game.

So, who was this game made for because it certainly wasn't made for fans of the franchise. Who are you playing as? Frank West? Is there still zombie-bashing? Yeah, but even that's pretty boring now since you can easily take on a horde of zombies with your bare firsts like an hour into the game. If this is Frank "big package," he needs to return to sender.

I've played and beaten every aspect of this game solely because it's the only third person zombie apocalypse in progress game I could find on PS4. As a fan of all the previous Dead Rising titles, this is absolutely the worst one.

If I were a non fan, I might be able to give it more of a pass because it is brainless fun to massacre zombies. That said, the writing is so damn bad it hurts.

Dead Rising 4: Frank's Big Package is made for people who love the idea of killing large zombie hordes in an outrageous fashion. The main game may not be as challenging as previous entries, but it remains engaging, and it would've been a fine purchase for PS4 owners. The presence of both old and new DLC makes the game absolutely packed, and while mini-golf isn't as strong as either Frank Rising or Capcom Heroes, its inclusion is still welcome.

One of the best games in the series, but one held back by technical issues and traditional repetition. Get past that, and you'll find hours of zombie slayin' fun. [Feb 2018, p.96]

When it comes to Dead Rising 4: Frank's Big Package, the same question comes up over and over again: Who is this for? Here's a title that not only fails to win over fans of Dead Rising, but it also fails to win over fans of videogames. Slaying hundreds of thousands of zombies is not compelling entertainment, especially when the combat mechanics are so unsatisfying. The entire adventure just feels tired and cynical, sapping players of the necessary energy to carry on with their day. This critic racked up well over 25 hours of play and didn't laugh, not even once. What else needs to be said? Maybe this game is for people who no longer wish to experience joy.
