I'm being generous giving DI2 a 7 (should be able to enter 6.5). Its rather boring. I admit I was pumped to get this game but there is not much going on imho. It's just a polished old game, def not worth $69, it should be $29. I regret pre-ordering for full price. Where are the amazing weapons like Dying Light, it's just basic upgrades. I was expecting some humor! If you go in with low low expectations and pay a low low price you will probably enjoy. I was expecting a high end gaming experience. I'm on PS5. Expand

Dead Island 2 does lot of things very well. Its still the same old, but almost everything from previous games has been improved and polished on. It also looks splendid, especially if you have PS4Pro. And runs really smoothly. Also, I have not encountered a single bug or glitch during the first 15 hours of playing it.
Sadly, there are stuff in the game that keeps sapping the joy out of me.

Sadly, there are stuff in the game that keeps sapping the joy out of me.
First is the weapon wear. Not being able to kill more than dozen zombies before your weapon breaks, is a pain. Sure, you can carry plenty of weapons, but the rapid wear, and the high cost of fixing weapons, means you waste all your money on fixing your favorite weapons every five minutes. At this day and age, they could have left weapon wear out, and the result would have been much better game.
Second pain is the way too fast respawning of zombies in areas. You clear area so you can explore it for treasures. Well, while you are emptying the house, the zombies are back, both in and outside. Way too fast respawning, and saps the joy of exploration when you cannot even explore couple minutes in peace.
Third, the game forces you to melee. It starts by giving you choice of different play styles, but during the first ten hours, most of the combat is pure melee, and you cannot really escape it. So, the alternate ways of completing missions that it was supposed to have, it does not have. You just beat your way thru with a baseball bat in most situations.
Its a solid enough game, and perhaps the best of the series. But these negative things sap lot of the joy out of it and makes it just bit too much like a chore.

The first Dead Island was my first journey into Zombie games and it blew my mind. I love that game. I was extremely excited when I heard of the release of this game. Being an absolute sucker for open world, immersive games, I was hoping it would be more of this that the original Dead Island. For my money, Dying Light 1 and 2 achieved what I wanted out of a sequel for Dead Island. Dead Island 2 looks great. It performs well. One of the things I felt was a mistake was how zombies respawn very quickly after being defeated. When I clear an area, I want it to be cleared...If I cleared an area, leave it completely and come back to it later in the game, fine...have the zombies respawn. If you clear an area, the area should remain cleared aside from maybe a few stragglers. I know we are playing Zombie video games, but it is just more realistic that way.

At full price, I would give the game a 7/10.

Its okay and fun for a bit than you become numb performing the same task over and over untill the game finishes .

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly it was all right. It's a zombie killing game and that mechanic is always some what fun. As for the "new" dismemberment system, I really noticed zero difference between it and dying light 2 or DE1 for that matter. They brought Sam B back but it's more like Sam B- at best and that's being generous. I cared for none of these characters and had zero emotional investment in saving Sam. As for the horror element, my 3 year old watched me play and gave no indication of being uncomfortable until about 5 butchers ambushed me. Wait for a price drop. Expand

There were no performance issues on PS5, and the art style and dialogue were definitely entertaining. The gameplay proved to be very enjoyable, reminiscent of the original Dead Island, but with more impactful attacks and more explosive weapons. However, the game's scope might be a deal breaker for some. My platinum playthrough lasted less than 25 hours, which is hardly record-breaking. Additionally, once you finish the main game and side missions, there is very little left to do, causing your collection of awesome weapons to gather dust. I recommend playing through it, but perhaps not at the original price. Expand
